playing ddlc for the first time in a while with a friend who's never played it before, and it got me thinking about my silly little queer headcanons again.
acespec yuri is so important to me. i realize this may be controversial because yuri is, both textually and subtextually.. just, so horny. (and kinky but this post isn't about that.) and i'm sure part of why i hc her as acespec is just projection and wish fulfillment - she is a cool character, we have some things in common, i like it when characters are like me.
but there's something else going on here, and i think i finally know what it is: yuri's yandere descent into madness and obsession with the protagonist is basically just what happens when you live as ace for years, thinking sexual attraction is only a thing in books and having a purely intellectual interest in it, and then find the one person you're actually extremely attracted to. i see u girl. this shit is crazy.

cannot express enough how much this scene means to me, especially as a trans person myself. it seems so small, but this scene is groundbreaking in so many ways.
for anyone who hasn't watched alice in borderland: the woman in the last picture is canonically a trans woman. she left home prior to transitioning because of her father's disapproval. this is the first time she's seen her mother since leaving home, & the first time her mother has seen her post-transition.
her mother's first reaction to seeing her as her fully realized self is to call her beautiful. this scene, itself, is so small. but man. is it beautiful.

i had the most infuriating interaction on twitter. so i want to have more productive and interesting conversations about homestuck now. tell me things you find unique or interesting with homestuck's writing/characters/themes etc! or tell me criticisms you have about it, its character choices or writing choices, etc! (pls dont come in to just say act 6 is bad or vriska did nothing wrong etc ! you can have those opinions but i want to spark conversations and debates around new and interesting topics or topics that don't get brought up as much!!) ALSO PLS NO HS2 i just want to talk about Homestuck as it is because i think there's still so much to dissect and explore!

fuck, man. laios just really encapsulates a lot of trans experiences i’ve heard from so many others. ostracized from family, feeling an inherent, deep disconnect from people around you who you are supposed to be like, having an “impossible” wish since childhood to flip that magic switch that would change the way your body looked that you hold into adulthood, meeting (trans) people who have transitioned (using lycion as a stand-in) and thinking “all those years something i thought was impossible is possible” and feeling a shift… good god.

[Start ID. A digital drawing of Minos Prime from Ultrakill, who's wearing a strapless slit dress and sandals of the same deep purple. He faces towards and slightly to the right of the camera, his head is tilted further right. With one hand he gestures in a vague pointing motion, his arm folded and held close to his body. There is nothing in the background, but bracing himself on one arm, Minos is implied to be leaning against something about the height of a countertop. The background is a blank purplish black, save for three diagonal stripes in the colors of the bisexual flag. End ID]
Shading study that quite literally came to me in a dream two weeks ago, after this post apparently beamed itself into my mind
(also a few edits below the cut! they're very slight but whatever :])
[Start ID. Three different versions of the previous drawing. The first changes the tone of the lighting from blue to pink, and similarly the shading from pink to blue. The second replaces the faint black border with pink, purple and blue, syncing with the stripes in the background. The third combines both these changes. End ID]

Thinking about trans Zoro angst...
Trans Zoro who comes out at such an early age that none of his peers know he was born a girl- and he wants to keep it that way.
Trans Zoro who hears Kuina's speech about puberty and weakness and womanhood and challenges it, partially because he wants to prove her wrong, but partially because she reminded him of what's going to happen to him in a few years, and maybe he wants to prove that he's different from her, that he's not going to become a weak woman.
Trans Zoro who sees Kuina die and promises that he'll be strong for her.
Trans Zoro who grows up learning that women are weak and fragile and never gets a chance to see those ideas disproved.
Trans Zoro who is taught that men don't cry. That men are strong. That men don't die to silly things like falling down the stairs. That men must protect the women they love even at the cost at their own health.
Trans Zoro growing up terrified of what might happen if anyone found out he was trans. Terrified of losing his place in the dojo. Terrified of being seen only as a weak woman.
Trans Zoro who tells Chopper that "real men don't cry" because he doesn't cry and he's a real man. The fact he doesn't cry proves it.
Trans Zoro whose dysphoria hits harder every time he loses a fight.
Trans Zoro who overcompensates for his dysphoria by falling into the patterns of toxic masculinity he was raised with. Who tries to be the kind of man his sexist teachers would be proud of.
Trans Zoro who refuses medical treatment because he doesn't want anyone else to look at his body.
Trans Zoro who is "found out" after his fight with Mihawk.
Trans Zoro who is shocked to discover that nobody sees him as weak because he was born a woman. Who only needs to shout "I'm a man" to go back to being seen as one.
Trans Zoro who learned that men have to be strong, but is slowly learning that it's okay for them to be weak too.
Trans Zoro who is learning that he can be whatever kind of man he wants, his teachers be dammned.

this is gonna make some people mad, but i remember when people would post headcanons and literally show their work afterwards, proving how it fit into canon
now people are just throwing shit at a wall to see if it sticks, and it's infuriating that the hcs that stick and get adopted by the fandom at large are frequently completely out of character or straight up fetishes.
there's nothing wrong with alternate universes, or hcs characters as trans/neurodivergent/etc. but it's started to get to a point where i'm genuinely concerned that y'all think every man who isn't six feet tall and ripped is a tiny helpless femme twink.

ive rambled about this to my friends but i do genuinely find it so funny that dunmesh just randomly is like "by the way this woman has a penis now" as a throwaway detail. her brother has a one-panel crisis in the general vicinity of her newfound anatomy (which is played off more as a joke about him not being ready to have nieces / nephews tbh), and then it never comes up again. falin just Obtains A Dick and there are 0 narrative consequences. there is one panel of fridge humor and then nada. the most casual possible phalloplasty.
Which is fun enough on its own but also. it's a dragon cock. like. she didn't just get a dick, she got like The Dick Of Legend. truly a pioneer in fantasy furry transhumanism.
