First, thank you for the ask! And I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying my fics!! 😊 I’m on vacation this week and finally writing again (had a bit of a rough writer’s block patch). So hopefully I’ll be posting more content in the next couple of weeks.

Fic recs - boy do I ever. I will say, I have super varied tastes in fics, I’ll read just about anything Gen that’s Jason-centric, plus a few Jason ships (although I’m pretty picky about what actually makes it into my bookmarks). All of the fics I’m rec’ing below are Gen, although some might have flavors of a relationship (likely JayRoy since that’s my preferred pairing). I tried to pick a selection of different styles and tropes, so hopefully you find something you like. Umm I think this is asking like if I have a stupid/cracky/hilarious headcanon? Maybe? Not sure lol (if I'm answering wrong please feel free to comment explaining and I'll re-answer lol) I would say that one of my most ridiculous headcanons is that Duke will stand in the shadows with his eyes glowing trying to spook Bruce. He's only managed it successfully once, but he is still living off that feeling and swears to himself he'll do it again.

K - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom

I shan't say... Okay but actually. I mean. I feel like it's kind of evident by how often I rant on Discord about the Batman-Poll poll results but... Augh. I think... this fandom is really big so of course there's going to be a lot of stuff that annoys me. I think generally there's a lot of really cool creative people here and since I've curated my space very well I generally have a really good time! But I've had to block... so many people saying just blatantly misogynistic or racist bullshit.

Also the way people are so obsessed with inventing reasons why ships are problematic is baffling to me. Like ship whatever you want and all that no matter what but a lot of the ships people hate and say are wrong are like the most normal ships ever? It's so blatantly just an excuse to make your ship The Only Acceptable Ship and paint everyone who ships something different as an evil deviant. It's exhausting. Go read a comic book or something. Related. I think this fandom would be a lot more fun if people in the comic book fandom actually liked comic books.

2) Feel your way • poolverine • 2.7k • aka: Yet another Honda Odyssey fic lol. —— i still can't believe i wrote and posted smut for the first time in years—and it's not half bad! i feel like a lot of my smut isn't actually as hot as i want it to be 😅😑

3) tanoshii omoide • victuuri • 600+ • In interviews, and generally in public, Yuuri always says his happiest memory is landing his triple axel for the first time. —— i also can't believe this is the first victuuri fic i've ever posted publicly. yoi is the reason why i'm a weeb and i still very deeply adore this anime. perhaps one day i'll share the rest of my victuuri brainworms but who knows! certainly not me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i have dozens of wip documents of varying lengths, and even more notes of fic ideas ranging in detail from a single bullet point to "why the hell haven't i just turned this into proper sentences yet bc it's practically written!!!"

one in particular that i think about a lot is a poolverine/cabledom + x-force miscommunication leads to getting together fic

alas, i have not the knowledge nor skill to give this the attention and care it deserves 😩😔

What caused you to start writing?

What is your favorite fandom to RP in?

What are your favorite ships (canon or fanon)?

What caused you to start writing?

I started writing when I was about 14, so the exact cause is a little fuzzy, but I imagine it had to do with searching for a creative outlet. I was still drawing and was active on DA, and I remember coming across this random chatroom there for finding RP partners and discussion of RP in general, and I entered out of curiosity. Made my first official character, who was a shapeshifter I named Luna, got to writing, and the rest is history 😊

What is your favorite fandom to write in?

Definitely DC. I find myself bursting with ideas and lots of cravings that are so fun to explore and have such versatility, maybe due to how large the DC universe is that it just doesn't feel like an obligation to stick to strict canon, and it's just scratching the right itch for me. I also love the DC characters I got to know so far. It might also have to do with the fact that I am writing this fandom here as well and not just Discord, which is a different experience than writing the ones on ones I do there. This fandom made me open an AO3 a while back, too, which is probably the first fandom I considered writing solo pieces for. I will probably post there again soon, seeing as I have a lot of ongoing inspiration and ideas that go unused here.

What are your favorite ships (canon or fanon)?

I'll admit that my heart goes with the men leaning shipping a lot more for this fandom because it works so well and makes a lot of sense for me. It's hard to pick an ultimate favorite, but Jaydick has been a staple since day one. I've been getting into Roy a lot more recently since he has so much untapped potential that goes unaccounted for, too, and both Dickroy and Jayroy go well for me.

me: people should stop openingly fantasising about jayroy shippers dying because they don't like roy's post-2011 characterisation, that's fucked up

you, apparently: actually it's fine to do that because sometimes the comics are bad

I say again, comics are an ongoing mediums and writers change. there are always going to be versions of your faves that you hate, and sometimes those are the ones that get carried forward into ongoing canon, and that's just the nature of the medium. it's not about good or bad characterisation, that's just a fact about all ongoing multi-author mediums.

if you can't handle that without wishing death on strangers, comics are not the hobby for you. watch movies, read novels, find fiction that has one author and one creative vision until you develope the emotional maturity to interact with people who like stuff you don't without slinging insults and ill wishing people!

This wasn't asked for because nobody in their right mind would ask for this but this is a fic rec list of fics I cannot stop rereading

Just started yet another reread of Inimitable Verse by deniigiq and I fully plan on rereading their into the multiverse series which occasionally crosses over also - this is a Spider-Man/team red focused series, think comics canon infused early mcu-spidey since only homecoming had come out for a non substantial amount of time they were working on the series and the daredevil stuff is explicitly tv show AND comics. Also the multiverse series is how I got into Murderdock and therefore how I got into Spider Gwen

Unpretty's Sorrowful And Immaculate Hearts series which is just a loosely interconnected series of DC fics. My personal favorites are Empty Graves, in which Martha Kent keeps killing time travelers trying to kill baby! Clark; any of their clois fics but especially Third Wheel; and Anti-Social, which is a social media fic mostly about Tim and Bruce that made me cry laughing. Catch Bruce trying to get Walmart's employees to unionize. Also shout out to unpretty's only fic with Jason in it, it looks awesome but is tragically incomplete

This particular Reverse Robin AU which put in the work to reverse every single younger generation and is chef's kiss I LOVE this version of Tim he's wild

Both of Shoalsea's fics are in constant rotation for me I talk about Into The Brighter Night all the time in the tags of reblogs and stuff it truly lives in my head rent free. Anyway Tim gets kidnapped by aliens and the batfam have to watch as yj98 saves him and it's angsty and funny and such a good take on what could have been if the new 52 hadn't happened. And Compassion Builds No House is about Tim and Pru from Red Robin. Ugh they're both so good

Speaking of Clois (I did you've just forgotten this by now) brilliant (like a confession) by kathkin (penny-anna on the hellsite) is so fucking good I'm. Okay. Anyway it'll be listed as inspiration if/when I finally post my two person love triangle fic for them

I'm too anxious to catch up on this before it's done but jumble sale chic is hands down the best spideydevil fic series despite and because of the omegaverse

Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul is my favorite take on Jason, period, and has a lot of fantastic Damian stuff going on too. It's updating every few weeks still! Sometimes more often! I love you bacondoughnut it's me JustGail the person who will not stop commenting on your fic you're stuck with me forever

I lied above Rumspringa Murderdock is what got me into Murderdock but that series is second place. I found this one while scrolling through the tv show's mattfoggy tag, thinking I was safe

Speaking of Murderdock mattfoggy, The Lawyer All the Wickedness was written early on in spider-gwen's history and so diverges from canon really early in ways that I think are super interesting and creative

Oh also straight on 'til morning by merils (Tumblr url mamawasatesttube) does SUCH a great job unpacking Kon's trauma and building up healthy relationships around him including a budding timkon romance and yeah it makes me sad and happy at the same time

We're getting into poisonivory territory so just trust if you like the pairing and poisonivory is writing it you'll like it. Ok rapidfire

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? Damijon future fic/au. Jon came back from the future when both of them were 19. Demisexual!Damian at its best. Damian's terrified of being abandoned by Jon again and it made my heart hurt

I feel like I've already recommended every JayRoy fic by poisonivory and genuinely I do reread them all, sometimes in order of publication if I'm in a particular mood. Maybe the one I've read most though is I've Got the Feeling You're the Right Thing After All which is about Roy and Jason starting a fwb thing while Roy still harbors old feelings for Dick. Can't see anything going wrong here lmao

So I have this thing where I tend to associate characters with music either from around their debuts, or crucial moments in their history. To me, Roy's musical tastes skew towards the 60s and 70s, his early Titans/Snowbirds/Great Frog years - so a lot of classic rock, folk, soul, etc. Pretty universally recognized as "cool" music. (With some nostalgic love for 40s swing and blues, which he canonically listened to growing up with Ollie.)

Meanwhile I associate Jason with the early 80s, so like...early Michael Jackson and Madonna, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," the Flashdance soundtrack. I firmly believe that to this day he thinks "Open Arms" by Journey is the most romantic song ever recorded. He's right, but yeah, the answer here is Jason.

I think they're both pretty quick! The vigilante lifestyle trained them well.

Both of them, they're awful. The only reason no one has broken a bone is because Roy also thinks Jason's hot when he gets competitive so the game usually gets derailed by sex.

Honestly, I watch so little TV that I am going to be terrible at answering this question for every pairing. I think they're more likely to put on something mindless and zone out when they get back from patrol at 3 am and need to decompress than anything where they need to follow a narrative. Probably cooking show reruns.

what other couple they hang out with

Kyle and Connor, when Kyle's on Earth. Yes, Jason and Kyle still hate each other. It's very entertaining.

Raising Lian, fighting crime, Roy being ridiculous and Jason trying to pretend he's not charmed by it.

who made the first move

Roy made a very long series of incrementally tiny moves that Jason didn't notice. Jason made the one big move that actually got them together.

Roy, but it doesn't count because Dinah owns a florist shop and he got them for free.

I think fandom has a pretty definitive answer for this one. ;)

So like can the fandom not turn into a place of ship bashing? Also can people understand that people who like a ship or idea in comics are creative enough to handle parts that others think don't work. That bad execution is not a bad idea. And the characters are not static. For example, you can so easily write Roy's time in RHATO as a person recovering from extreme depression from the loss of a daughter. Also the idea that fans of anything haven't read a comic is just gatekeeping pure and simple.

See here’s the thing about fans fixing the issues with jayroy in canon: they don’t do it. I’ve read a large amount of jayroy fics, mostly because it’s the Jason ship in everything, but also because I wanted to see if fans were making it better than what it was. And they weren’t. Jayroy as a concept isn’t terrible, but the point is that nobody who likes Roy for who he has been for decades before his character was ruined in RHATO actually ships jayroy. This isn’t me making stuff up, it’s genuinely the truth. Everyone, or at least the vast majority, that ships jayroy was introduced to him through RHATO and then never read anything else.

I really don’t like gatekeeping, so I’m not saying you have to read every single Roy comic ever to be allowed to speak on this. However, you do need to have a basic understanding of Roy’s character pre-N52 to be able to argue without making it obvious you don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s like if someone who had only read Battle for the Cowl tried to argue that Jason’s character in that godawful comic was a reasonable interpretation of him to the point where it should be his main characterization. That’s what this is like to people who like Roy, not just one half of a ship where your priority is the other character exclusively (and I say this as a Jason stan).

I’m going to ignore the amount of content of jayroy raising Lian that I see (all of which conveniently leaves out Jade) to respond to you. Roy’s character in RHATO isn’t just off by a little, so we can’t just attempt to reason which aspect was impacted by what. Almost nothing about Roy resembles who he has been for decades. Lobdell wrote an OC, not Roy Harper. I’m not interested in getting a headache trying to figure out how Roy became someone unrecognizable when the answer is that he was used as a prop in RHATO. I can’t even get into every small thing about him that changed because what didn’t? That’s not development or the result of trauma, it’s complete character assassination because it’s a disservice to the character he is.

For some reason BirdFlash gives me the look like nerds but are actually jocks vibe while JayRoy are the look like jocks but are actually nerds vibe. TimKon is the classical jock + nerd and since this came to my mind I can't unsee

At first sight, birdflash gives off STRONG nerd vibes. wally’s actually known throughout the school for his science achievements, trophies, and awards. you don’t stand a chance against him in the science fair, don’t even try. and dick went to a fancy rich prep school where he scored some of their highest grades. just because he doesn’t like school doesn’t mean he isn’t good at it. and whenever they see each other in civvies, wally’s chattering on about this experiment he’s doing for fun and it seems like dick actually understands what he’s talking about, not just nodding along. and with a single visit to wally’s school, he revolutionized the tech department with a few careless suggestions. but really, that’s just their individual interests. wally might like science, but his entire life is running. he trains and trains, both with and without the speedforce. along with being trapped in that thing for years, wally’s pretty sure the reason he’s the fastest speedster is because of his strict track and cross-country training. and no matter what the circumstances, dick’s always happiest when he’s in the air. he possesses a natural athleticism that leaves others in awe along with skills finely honed to perfection for years that very few others could even hope to achieve. the two of them are long and lean and strong, and are in complete control over their bodies. they play different sports for fun, give each other leg warmers, socks, and water bottles for holidays, and go on early morning runs. the two of them are sports culture to the max (i actually made a post about that here)

now jayroy give off just the jock vibe, maybe even running into punk territory. first of all, lets get this out of the way: BICEPS. two of the biggest pairs of guns you’ll ever see, i swear. roy’s got a cocky smirk and he wears threadbare tank tops with dumb slogans on them and he never takes that trucker hat off. he makes his way into the basketball game going on at the courts on the bad side of town with a laugh. he squares up his fists for a fight any time there’s a hint of action. his nose is crooked from all the times its been broken and reset. not to mention his tattoos. and yes, roy loves lian with his entire heart and cares for her with everything he has, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a teenager. now jason, jason just looks the part. he’s huge, and built like a goddamn brick wall. those muscles gotta be used for something, right? he’s always wearing those fingerless gloves, but his knuckles are constantly bruised anyway. you stop and take a double take anytime you see him when his lip isn’t split. almost everyone’s seen him with a gun. but he also spends his free time reading literary classics. his bookshelf is crammed full of old paperbacks, with everything from Frankenstein to Wuthering Heights to Farenheight 459 to The Importance of Being Earnest. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is a guilty pleasure of his. And he’s not just flipping through them either. no, he reads them. poking plot holes and other criticisms faster than a bullet. character analyzations sharper than his jawline. a lecture about the problem with many contemporary and modern novels longer than his dick. yea, jason devours those novels, and can tell you about all of them. as for roy, he’s inventive. always tinkering, always fiddling with a piece of tech, always creating. whether it be a new set of trick arrows or a coffee machine that spits out poison darts of a toaster that has 56 settings or a goddamn bazooka. he loves building stuff with his own two hands, a messy bun on his head, grease on his face, goggles shoved over his eyes as whatever he’s making sparks to life in his hands, bested only by the strike of pure creative passion in his eyes. textbook definition mechanic and geek, and we love him for it.

timkon is definitely the classic jock + nerd pairing. the only problem is that they always switch which is which. kon drapes his spiked leather jacket over tim’s shoulders when he’s cold, and later on at football games, tim cheers kon on wearing kon’s varsity jacket. but tim dropped out of high school because he has “better things to do” while kon just genuinely enjoys learning about stuff. kon does need help with his homework, so he calls tim, who always gives kon the math formulas he forgot the empirical formula of a compund that he doesn’t feel like calculating while simulaneously working on a couple other cases (he bounces his theories for a certain homicide off kon). but half of tim’s closet is made of sports jerseys for his favourite teams that he wears completely unironically even though they practically dwarf him, and he drags kon to all of their games while cheering and hollering, screaming at the tv when he can’t be there live,,,,and it’s not just one sport,,,,,nooo he’s got a good many he’s completely emotionally invested in. tim steals kon’s shirts so often that he just starts giving them to him, and dear god there’s almost nothing kon loves more than seeing tim wearing his clothes, looking tiny and misleadingly delicate and his. but tim carries around a skateboard and uses it practically 24/7, and one afternoon was spent teaching kon how to use the thing, including lots of laughing and falling over and steadying hands on waists, before a break at an ice cream parlour was followed by a sugary kiss. so yea, timkon is jock + nerd culture, with both of them being the jock and the nerd (also sorry anon i know you were thinking of kon being the jock and tim being the nerd, and honestly that’s how i usually view it too, its just this particular idea popped into my head and i had to write it) (also for timkon, i usually go for skate culture, and my hc for that is here)

Random story I’m going to try to write

I call it: No Capes Outlaws as Actual High School Teahers AU (with a side of Jayroy).

Roy

Roy is the AP/Honors (depending on where you’re from in the country) engeninering, mechanics and physics (1&2) teacher. His scedule every day would go: Prep Hour, Physics 1, Physics 2, PreAP/Introduction to Physics, Mechanics (first block), Mechanics (second block), Lunch, Enenering.

He is the supervisor of the science club on Mondays and Fridays, and engerninering work shop on Tuesday.

The reason he requested his Prep Hour to be in the morning is that he needs to make sure Lian gets to her daycare all right and on time.

Students love him because he is goofy and makes them smile during classes, but also very obviously cares about them. He is open about his past with substance abuse and his recovery story, as well as growing up on a reservation until he was a teenager. He gets them and how hard it is growing up in our modern world, and that means so much to them.

Kori

A warm hearted but fierce woman who came from a foreign country to teach her country’s language, culture and history to young American high school students.

She’s not familiar with lingo and many American customs, and immensely enjoys getting to learn from her students as they learn from her.

Stands strong in fighting for what you believe in and for seeing the goodness in people around you. That doesn’t mean stand by as people treat you unfairly and only reapond with kindness, it means to know how to love and respect yourself first and know how to pick your battles.

Sometimes manages to convince the principal to let her bring in her exotic pet from her home country to spend time with the class.

Acting counselor for any and all foreign exchange students.

She takes her Prep Hour during fourth period.

Artemis

The cool Egyptian PE teacher who everyone honestly love.

The students are very shocked when they realize that their awesome Coach is distantly related to Coach Diana from middle school. It gives them whiplash at first, but then they look closer and immediately start to see the similarities.

Unknowingly (but also slightly knowingly) became these young high school girls’ idea of what a strong woman looks like not only physically but mentally. She loves giving the girls advice and counciling and pretending she doesn’t notice just how much they love her.

You name the sport, she coaches or co-coaches it.

Instead of taking a Prep Hour, she fills in for a class period upstairs in the sports med class.

Bizzaro

A teacher’s aid who is on the autism spectrum.

Usually jumps between Artemis and Jason’s classes, but sometimes he likes to just hangout alone in the PAC alone to get some of his studies done (and secretly watch the dance classes when they practice on stage, he just finds them really pretty).

He looks intimidating at first sight, but the students are very quick to warm up to him.

Carries Pup Pup with him at all times. Sometimes Jason or Roy will spray it with their cologne or Kory or Artemis with their perfume. They know how happy the familiar smells make him, and any time they notice the most resent spray has worn off, the one who notices will spray it again (which means Pup Pup usually smells like Jason, but Biz doesn’t mind).

He graduated high school at a very young age due to his intellect. On his last day of school, while his much older peers were on their last day of first semester, he went to Jason. All he had to say was that he was scared to go home. Jason very quickly had CPS on Lex, and gained legal custody of Biz by the end of winter break.

Jason (I save the most fleshed out for last)

Did a double major and a minor while in university (his family still don’t know how he did it), majoring in English Literature and Psychology with a minor in theater. He acted as a “long term sub” (a title the had to legally give him for the time being) as an AP/Honors Lit teacher at the school while he finished up with his teaching degree.

After two years of teaching AP Lit and AP English, he decided it was to mentally taxing on him to see how miserable his students were and decided to leave those classes in better hands. He now teaches Creative Writing 1&2 and all of the drama classes. His daily schedule is: Creative Writing 1&2 (they have to share a class period to have enough students to make the bar for minimum class population) Drama 1, Drama 2, Stage Craft, Lunch, Prep Hour, Screen play/script writing, improv.

He had his Prep Hour during the second lunch block so that students from both lunches have access to his classroom. They can get tutoring help, emotional support, or just a safe and quiet place to eat their lunch in.

Basically runs the entire theater department alone. He manages to pick the plays/musicals every year, get the script orders in place, order the costumes and props, get the supplies for making the backdrops and still somehow has enough money from the school budget left over to throw the cast good parties. The students call it budgeting magic.

Over his years of teaching, he’s been gradually collecting more and more literature and psychology degrees from online universities (his schooling is all he spends his trust fund on. His father finds it baffling that he would rather collect degrees he may never use instead of getting a home better than his crappy apartment he lives in off his paychecks from the school or an actual car)

All of the students who have never had him as a teacher think he’s cool because he rides a motorcycle and wears leather jackets. His drama and writing students know better. They know he’s a total dork.

The teacher the kids know they can go to with home life issues. Through the grapevine, the student know he was abused early in his childhood and was homeless for a while before being taken in by Bruce Wayne. They know they can trust him with anything, because he understands better that anyone what it’s like to be in their place.

The Students!

The generation outlaws, Vessel, Sasha, Tim and his Young Justice team, Damian, Jon, Rachel, Gar, a few other assorted kids.

They all realized Mr. Harper and Mr. Todd had a crush on each other before they did.

They ship it, a lot, and try a lot of crazy schemes to get them together that always fail. The schemes only get more elaborate as they go.

“Can Coach Artemis adopt me?”

“Hey Mr. Harper, adopt me?”

“Ms. Anders can I adopt you as a mom?”

“How long do you think it will take Mr. Todd to adopt him?” “Dude, Damian is his brother.” “That doesn’t change a thing.”

They trust their teachers with their lives and would protect their teachers with their lives.
