What steps can I take to make the divorce process easier for my child?
Tumblr media
Divorce can be a challenging and emotionally turbulent time for families, especially for children of all ages who have very little say on how divorce will affect their lives. How do you help your children through this difficult time? Nataxja Cini MSW RSW at Family-Therapy in Ottawa stresses that helping your child through separation and divorce means providing extra reassuring emotional support, creating stability, and maintaining familiar routines for your children and teens. Initially separation and divorce can be a difficult time for everyone. Your children are vulnerable to feeling abandoned or responsible for your marriage breaking down no matter what their ages. Each child reacts differently.
How can I support my child through my separation and divorce?
Nataxja suggests that it is essential to prioritize your child’s emotional needs as you all struggle through this life-changing event. You have to maintain open and honest communication, reassure them of your love, and encourage them to express their feelings even if this means meltdowns and tantrums. You need to keep your children’s consistent routine as much as you can and offer age-appropriate explanations about what’s happening. You could also involve older children in making some decisions when possible, such as choosing new paint colours for their rooms. Children and teens should not be making adult decision. Seek professional support for your child if necessary, because a psychotherapist is trained to help children and teens cope with the emotional challenges they may be facing.
What are some signs that my child may be struggling with the divorce?
You might see your children displaying various signs of distress, including changes in behaviour, mood swings, withdrawal, difficulties at school, acting out or regressive behaviours. They may also exhibit physical symptoms like headaches, aches and pains or an upset stomach. Pay attention to anything out of the ordinary in their emotional well-being or social interactions. If you notice these signs persisting for an extended period, seeking professional help can be beneficial.
How can I promote a healthy co-parenting relationship after divorce?
Co-parenting plays a crucial role in supporting your child’s adjustment. The Ottawa-based counsellors and social workers at Family-Therapy emphasize that effective communication, respect, and a focus on your child’s best interests are the keys. Create a detailed parenting plan that outlines responsibilities, visitation schedules, and decision-making processes. Try to not argue with your ex in front of your child and encourage your kids to maintain a positive relationship with their other parent.  It’s important to never pressure or try to convince your child to live solely with you. Children should be kept out of the conflict between the adults. Remember, your child’s well-being should always be the primary concern and focus with your ex when having parenting discussions. If you find talking with your ex is stressful, anxiety provoking or it almost always ends up in a fight, seek professional help for yourself to learn ways you can minimize conflict with your ex.
What can I do to ensure my child feels safe and secure during this transition?
The best advice from Nataxja is that consistency and routine are vital for your child’s sense of security. As much as you can, maintain familiar routines and traditions such as bedtime rituals, family customs, or extracurricular activities. Constantly reassure them that both you and your ex still love and support them. Create a stable home environment that fosters emotional well-being. Encourage open dialogue and pay attention to what they’re telling you, verbally and non-verbally.  It is especially important to provide comfort and reassurance whenever necessary. Divorce is a huge change for young children especially as they are the ones transitioning between two homes. Ensure they don’t have too much going on on the days they transition between homes.
How can I help my child understand and cope with their emotions?
Nataxja recommends validating your child’s emotions and create a safe space for them to express their feelings. Encourage healthy coping mechanisms such as journaling, drawing, or engaging in physical activities. Be prepared that your child may be angry and mad at you for the separation. And sometimes your child just needs you to listen to them without you trying to fix anything. If necessary, seek professional counseling to provide your child with additional support and guidance.
Supporting your child through separation and divorce requires patience and understanding. You may find that the best way to get through this difficult time is to seek professional therapy for your child or maybe even yourself. Once Virgil and Logan returned to the room, Virgil made a request not to be disturbed and they put up a magical barrier to keep anyone from using enchanted items or spells to spy on them. The group was sitting in the living area, with the tv turned off, and trying to come up with a plan of action, or at least a logical theory as to what is happening. So basically, they were stuck with no idea as to what was going on or what their next move should be.
Logan frowned. “Could these events be connected? Virgil’s parents and grandmother both being essentially missing.”
Remy shrugged. “Possibly. Right now though we’re just guessing.”
“I think that our next move is more obvious than we think,” Remus declared. “We need to find Virgil’s grandmother.”
Roman nodded. “But where to start?”
Remus shrugged. “Her room?”
“Whether she’s there or not though, they’ll have guards stationed there to keep up the ‘she’s sick and quarantined’ charade.” Janus pointed out.
“Oh! What if we use the teleportation spell?” Patton proposed.
“Would that even work in this realm?” Willow wondered. “And what if they have some kind of magic barrier like we have here?”
“Virgil, is there anyone who you would trust to tell you the truth about what’s happening? The best thing we can do is find a reliable source to inform us what’s going on.” Remy said.
Virgil sighed. “The Earl was my grandmother’s closest advisor, and I don’t think we can trust him at all.”
“What about the reporters? You said they give news to the people of this realm, so surely they would have some information,” Logan reasoned.
Virgil perked up. “I don’t know how reliable they’d be, but I guess that’s a start. We’d need to comb through the news channels on TV.”
“Ooh, I can do that. I figured out how to use the remote properly,” Patton proudly stated.
“I could do some reconnaissance. Like covertly listening in on what people say to each other,” Willow suggested.
“I can help keep you hidden while you’re doing that,” Janus added.
“Roman and I could also do some covert reconnaissance. Our hearing isn’t as good as Willow’s but it’s still pretty sharp,” Remus stated.
Virgil nodded. “Alright, Pat can look into what’s on the news while Remus, Roman, Janus and Willow act as our spy teams. Logan and I have left the room before, so we can go out again and try to see my grandmother or at least fake that we’re doing that to see how well her room is being guarded.”
Remy frowned. “Hang on kids. If there is something going on, I would like to get us out of here as soon as possible. You shouldn’t be getting too deep into stuff like this.”
“It’s dangerous, but we knew this was going to be risky when we agreed to it. And, really, this might be our safest option considering how the Earl was trying to convince Virgil to go back home.” Logan noted.
Remy sighed. “If you really need to check in on the queen, then I may know a spell that can help. But it’s difficult for normal mages to cast.”
The group exchanged curious glances. “What is it?”
“Mind linking,” Remy stated. “It’s a high-level spell that can allow a person to link their consciousness to someone else. You can’t do a full connection unless two people are doing the spell with each other, but there’s a way to use the spell to specifically disconnect one’s consciousness for a time in order to find other minds in the space around you. Aka this building. The spell goes through all kinds of loopholes and can work even inside or through magical barriers, but the caster needs a proficiency in mind magic…”
“So, theoretically, I could cast the spell?” Virgil asked.
“Yes, but another rule is you can’t cast the spell onto yourself.”
“You could cast it onto me though,” Logan said.
“I was actually thinking I could take the spell,” Remy declared.
“I think Logan should do this. If Pat’s watching the news, the twins, Janus, and Willow are out spying, and I’m maintaining this spell, then it would probably be a good idea to have someone checking news sites online, and we don’t have time to teach Logan about the internet,” Virgil pointed out.
“Inter-net? Is it some kind of magical net you catch information with?” Roman asked.
“Like I said, we don’t have time to introduce you guys to it. Maybe later though.”
Remy sighed. “Alright. But we’re going to need to go into full detail with this plan…”
The team did plan things out as best they could. Virgil explained to the spy team how to navigate the building. After that, Roman, Remus, Janus and Willow went to the elevator, casting invisibility spells on themselves that would make it so only they could see/detect each other, then went their separate ways.
Meanwhile, Remy showed Patton which channels were for the news and gave Logan the instructions for the Mind spell. Pat made notes on everything that was being said on TV in a small black notebook and once Remy finished instructing Logan he found a tablet to use the internet on.
“Remember, I’m only able to keep this up for five minutes, then you’ll be pulled back into your body,” Virgil said. “You know where to go?”
Logan nodded. “I’ll be fine, Virge. We can both pull this off.”
Virgil nodded. “Okay. You might want to lie down then.”
Logan laid down and closed his eyes as the spell was cast. He could feel as the magic flowed through his body like a gentle wave washing over the shore. For a moment he thought that the spell had failed since nothing else changed, but then he sat up and opened his eyes only to realise that he was outside of his own body. More specifically, he was floating just above his body like a ghost.
He felt suddenly excited at this discovery. It was like he was now a ghost completely disconnected from his physical form. A glance over to Virgil however reminded him of the current urgency of his mission. He was watching Logan’s body with a particular concern. Right now he had no idea what was happening to Logan and it was worrying him a great deal.
Logan wanted to reassure him in some way, but this form wouldn’t really be able to do that, so instead, he focused on finishing his task so that when Virgil pulled him back he would have some useful information. He floated up to the ceiling and then phased through it like it was nothing more than a cloud of fog. He navigated his way literally through the building quickly until he came to the hall outside of the queen’s bedroom.
There were indeed a pair of guards outside the door, but no one else seemed to be on this floor. Logan phased through the door and looked around if anyone was there. The room was lavishly decorated in silver and lavender tones, with a pair of ornate wardrobes on either side of a large vanity table, a wall to wall bookshelf, and a large king-sized bed. In the bed, someone was laying down.
On closer inspection, Logan found that the someone was a fae woman with long tresses of silver hair that was spread out all over her pillows. She looked weak and sickly, with cold sweat on her forehead. Logan reached out to touch her so he could hopefully see into her mind when a voice from behind him said.
“Hello.”
Logan whipped around to find the spirit of the woman in the bed standing behind him. “Gah!”
“Oh, sorry darling, I didn’t mean to scare you there. You came looking for me, right?”
“Queen Valeria?”
“The one and only!” The woman said with a smile before her face turned serious. “You’re my grandson’s friend. Correct?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Then I need you to get him out of here. Immediately. Tell my son what’s going on here so that he can save the rest of this world before it’s too late for the others. I won’t last long enough to see him again...”
“I- no, your majesty I don’t really know what is happening but I’m sure that Virgil will not leave if you’re going to-- to die.”
“Child, there is no way to save me. All of you need to go to Nico and explain to him that Earl Ynclementia has overthrown me. Then he’ll know what to do next once my powers transfer to him.”
“Ma’am… Prince Nico and King Thomas have both disappeared. They were attacked by an unknown spellcaster during a meeting and no one knows what’s happened to them or where they vanished to.”
Valeria paled. “No… then Ynclementia’s plan was successful. That’s just all the more reason for you to get Virgil out of here. If he receives my powers then… it all will fall to him…”
Logan felt a lump in his stomach at the realisation of what she meant. With his parents gone and his grandmother dying, Virgil would be forced to take rulership over both humans and fae. Except the fae realm has been stolen by the earl, and if Virgil reveals his heritage without his parents support, then lord knows what might happen.
The people could rise against him in fear. Dethrone or even kill him. Even if he were completely accepted as half-fae, they could still try to take away his throne on the excuse he was underaged and possibly didn’t have the necessary training to rule in his fathers’ steads.
“Your majesty, there must be something we can do. If you’re here outside of your body then surely there’s still time to heal you.”
“Dear, I don’t have much time left. The spell I’m using to keep myself alive will be gone soon enough. Nothing but a miracle could save me now. Please, my only wish is that Virgil is safe. Take him home and… tell him to destroy the porthole. Right now, I’m using a spell to keep Ynclementia here, but once I’m gone he will try to take over your realm as well. That cannot happen.”
“No, there has to be something. There has to be a way to save you.”
“As I said, nothing but a miracle could do that.”
Logan looked down at his feet sorrowfully, then an idea struck him. “A-a miracle. Like the mythical creature, Miracle?”
Valeria gave a short laugh. “I doubt there are any of those just walking around in your realm, much less this one.”
“But if we found one, it could save you?”
“Well, they’re supposed to have boundless knowledge of the universe, so possibly. But it’s impossible to find one. Please just… just get Virgil away. Right now he’s going to need good friends more than ever.”
Valeria stared sorrowfully at the painting above her door. Only now Logan noticed it. A large portrait of Valeria, Thomas, Nico, Tanya, Dune and Virgil, all together smiling happily. If the queen died now then Virgil really would need friends. His fathers were completely missing and neither Tanya nor Dune could leave the forest. In the castle, facing the duties of ruling a kingdom, Virgil would be completely alone.
Logan couldn’t let that happen.
He tried to say more to Valeria but he felt that his soul was being pulled back. As his vision faded he heard Valeria say one more time, “Take him home.”
Barely a blink and a breath later, his consciousness returned and Logan found himself back in his body, with Virgil staring at him in concern. He sighed in relief only to tense up when he noticed the expression on Logan’s face.
“What happened?”
“We need a miracle.”
Virgil tugged on his hood. “Is it that bad?”
“No, well, what I mean- ugh, do you remember Remus’s dream?”
“That one about the giant bagel?”
“No, the recurring one. That one that started on our vacation.”
“Oh, the nightmare.”
“Yes, that. To save the person, we needed to find the miracle that time left behind, right?”
“I’m with you so far.”
“I think that that dream was very literal…”
An hour later, the group was reunited and once again stuck thinking of what to do next. Logan explained everything that happened with Valeria, leaving Virgil terribly distressed, and then the spy team returned with the news that Ynclementia planned to use them as hostages since the plans to get rid of Virgil’s parents and assassinate Virgil ‘failed’.
“Assassinate me?”
Willow nodded. “That’s what a rockslide was. The agent Ynclementia sent must have believed they killed you then went off to get your parents.”
“And now Ynclementia thinks both plans failed so he needs you as a hostage to use against your fathers.” Janus sighed.
“The news isn’t giving me any hope either,” Remy stated. “It seems that they’ve… erased the queen. Like she or any of your family never existed. They’ve made it look like Earl Imbecile has always been in power and no one is speaking up about it.”
Patton nodded. “From what I’ve seen on TV they’re scared to even talk about him. Whenever they refer to anything he’s done or is doing, they have this terrible fear in their eyes.”
“Then it isn’t like they’ve been brainwashed or anything. They’ve been traumatized.” Roman theorised.
Remus chewed on her fingernails. “We need to get out of here.”
“Well, it’s not like we can just walk out of the place.” Janus declared. “They would lock us up for real if they caught us.”
“A porthole,” Willow said. “We can use a porthole to get ourselves back to the realm porthole and go home.”
“You pointed out earlier that kind of magic might not work in this realm.” Roman reminded them.
“Well, yeah, but how many successful spells have we used now?”
“Okay true.”
The group used a porthole to get themselves back to the realm porthole, then went through the second porthole and found Tanya, Dune, and a few other pixies waiting for them. Tanya looked at Virgil with a worried expression. She could already tell that something had gone wrong.
“Virgil?”
“...We need to close the porthole.”

a/n: okay so it seems a ton of you want Chris and Liv to find out about college!Harry and y/n, so let’s see what that looks like, shall we? Thanks to: @havethetimeeofyourlifee, @harryhiswatermelon, and @boopboop94!
Lock the Door - Blurb Three - Chris and Liv Find Out
Thanksgiving went better than you expected. Harry of course missed sharing a room with Y/N, but he scored major brownie points by being really nice to her kid brother. Her parents seemed much more relaxed than they did on move in day. Of course Y/N refrained from mentioning that her and Harry were sharing a room, or that they were seeing each other. She didn’t want to send her father into cardiac arrest. Y/N’s extended family was happy to see her bring someone home, even it it was under the “just a friend” guise.
“Harry, will you be going back to London at all?” Y/N’s mother asks him the morning after Thanksgiving.
“Yeah, for the holidays. I’ll be there through New Year’s, and then I’ll be back because I play basketball for the university.”
“So you’ll be there for winter break?” Her dad asks, and Harry nods. “That’s sort of a relief. Y/N’s on-campus job wants her to work over winter break and we were nervous about her staying in that apartment alone.”
“I told you both I’d be fine.” She says.
“I know, but knowing that such a nice young man would be there gives us some peace of mind.” Her mother says.
“Don’t worry.” Harry starts, putting an arm around Y/N’s shoulders. “She’s in safe hands with me.” He grins.
//
“So...four weeks alone together, hm?” Harry says as Y/N drives them both back to campus a day early.
“I guess so. Are you okay with that?”
“Okay with it?! I’m ready for it right now. I’m not lookin’ forward to finals or all the holiday travel.”
“Yeah, but you’ll be happy once you’re home.”
“True...so things went well with your family, I’d say.”
“Very well.” She agrees. “I still think they’re gonna flip out when I tell them we’re dating. We’ll have to keep lying about the living arrangements.”
“I’d say we’re more than dating.” He takes her hand and intertwines their fingers. “Wouldn’t you?”
“What are you saying exactly?” She blushes.
“I’m saying I think I’m your boyfriend.”
“I think you are too.” She smiles and he kisses her hand.
“I’m glad we’re goin’ back a day early, I can’t wait fuck your brains out after bein’ separated for three nights.”
“You act like we do it every single night.” She giggles.
“Yeah, but when someone essentially tells you that you can’t, it just makes you want it more. Are you tellin’ me you weren’t secretly hopin’ for me to come crawl into bed with you?”
“God, I wish you could have. It was weird not sleeping next to you.” She says shyly. “Not that we do that every night either, but I get what you mean. Not even having the option was difficult.”
Y/N gets herself and Harry to back to school. The two stop at the market to buy some groceries to get them through the rest of the weekend. They had an idea of having a roommate dinner Sunday night when Chris and Liv got back to tell them the good news. He helps her get everything into the fridge and then they look at each other.
“Right.” He picks her and puts her over his shoulder, making her giggle and squeal. “I’m really gonna give it to yeh.”
“Good, I want you to make it so I won’t even be able to walk tomorrow.”
“Jesus.” He groans when he gets her on his bed.
//
Chris and Liv also had the idea to come back a night early to have some alone time. Last they heard, Y/N and Harry wouldn’t be coming back until Sunday.
“Isn’t that Y/N’s car?” Chris says, pointing it out to Liv as they walk up to the door.
“Maybe they came back early too...” She sighs. “We’ll still have privacy, they never bother us when we wanna be alone.”
“Very true.”
Chris gives Liv’s bottom a pinch and it makes her giggle. They race to their room, and stop when they hear something from upstairs. The door was neither locked nor closed.
“Oh fuck, that’s it!” They hear Y/N cry out.
“Oh my god.” Liv whispers. “I knew she was hooking up with someone. She’s been way to relaxed lately.” She giggles and goes to quietly close their door.
“She never brings guys back, I wonder who the lucky dude is.” Chris whispers back.
“Harry, Harry, shit! Don’t stop!”
Both of their jaws drop, and Liv closes the door fast yet quiet. She turns to look at Chris, and they both get into their room to process what they just heard.
“Well, that confirms that.” He rubs the back of his neck. “They do spend a lot of time together...I guess all that cuddling led to more.”
“This is amazing!” She squeals. “It makes so much sense for them. I wonder if they’ll tell us, I hope they do. When do you think it all started?”
“No idea. Do you think it happened when they went home this weekend?”
“No way, it had to have been before. Maybe when he painted on her?”
“We’ll only know the full truth if they decide to tell us. We have to let them tell us too, we can’t force it out of them.”
“I agree. I don’t want to embarrass them...”
Y/N was panting on top of Harry, trying to catch her breath when they were finished. She looks up at him and giggles.
“What?” He says, smooth her hair away from her face.
“That was incredible.” He kisses her forehead. “I’m gonna go pee, I’ll be right back.”
“Could you bring some water back with yeh?”
“Course.”
Y/N throws on Harry’s t-shirt, and goes down the stairs. She uses the bathroom and grabs some water. As she’s walking back up she can hear muffled chatter from Chris and Liv’s room. She sprints back upstairs in a panic. She looks at Harry, who migrated to her bed.
“Harry.”
“What?” He sits up to look at her.
“Chris and Liv are home.”
“They are/”
“Yeah, I could hear them talking in their room!” She hands him the glass of water. “How long do you think they’ve been home for? What if they heard us?!”
“Calm down, babe. M’sure they didn’t hear anything.”
“How could they not have?! You had me screaming.” She groans and gets into bed with him. “The one time I feel like I can really let loose.”
“Okay, so maybe instead of a roommate dinner, we’ll have a roommate breakfast, and we’ll just lay it all out there. We can apologize if they heard anything.”
“Good idea.” She kisses his cheek and they both settle to get cozy.
//
The next morning Y/N and Harry make pancakes and bacon for everyone. Liv and Chris can smell it can they slowly creep out into the living area/kitchen.
“Mornin’ guys.” Harry says. “Came back early too?”
“Mhm.” Liv says.
“Breakfast is for everyone.” Y/N says pointing to the stack of pancakes.
“Great, thanks!” Chris says and the four sit down.
“So, uh, what time did you guys get in last night?”
“A little after 10PM.” Liv says, her cheeks were heating up. Y/N looks at Harry concerned. “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to say anything, but we heard you guys.”
“Liv!” Chris nudges her.
“No, it’s okay.” Y/N assures him. “We were going to make dinner tonight, and tell you what’s been going on...but...clearly there was some miscommunication as to who was coming back when yesterday. We’re so sorry...we didn’t even close the door.”
“It’s okay, we’re happy for you guys.” Liv says. “What exactly has been going on?”
“We’ve been sorta seein’ each other since midterms.” Harry explains. “We just wanted to see how things went before we made a big deal about it.”
“Harry’s my boyfriend now.” Y/N says.
“That’s great!” Chris says. “Good for you guys.” He takes a bite of pancake. “Just keep it down the way that Liv and I do, and there won’t be much that changes around here.”
“Oh definitely, I promise we’ve been really good about being quiet.” Y/N says. “We obviously thought we were alone last night.” She laughs.
The four finish their breakfasts. Waves of relief flood over Y/N and Harry. Now nothing needed to be a secret.

Survey #389
“i’m well aware i’m a danger to myself  /  are you aware i’m a danger to others?”
How much do you weigh? Yeah, we're starting off on a bad foot. If you are outside, what are you most likely doing? Putting Roman's used litter in the trash. Do you think you can love someone without trusting them? Hm... I guess you could love them, but it'd be a complicated situation. What’s your opinion on people who go hunting for sport? If it's purely for sport, from the very bottom of my heart, fuck you. Do you have a fairly fast or slow internet connection? I'd say it's decently fast. Have you ever been someplace tropical? Yeah, Florida. My grandma lived there. Are you sensitive to caffeine? No. It does like... nothing to me. How do you usually get around? My mom's car. Have you ever been accused of being too clingy? No actually, but I know I kinda am. What do you think about Kim Kardashian? I don't have an opinion of her. Can you speak any French? No. Favorite yogurt flavor? The only yogurt I've been liking lately is cookies and cream to add a different texture, because otherwise, I don't like its natural texture very much??? Idk man, my taste buds are wild. How much money do you have in your wallet right now? Just like $5. What bottled water brand do you like? Essentia. Your favorite way to eat chocolate? As chocolate bars, probably. How often do you listen to country music? Like, never. Linkin Park or Avenged Sevenfold? Linkin Park. Last surgery you had? Pilonidal cyst removal. Have you ever played guitar? I briefly took classes for it in high school, yes. Best I got to was playing some of the intro to "Crazy Train." I enjoyed it, but not enough to be consistent and really learn. Is there someone in your life whose career/life choices you find immoral/unethical? Have you ever told that person your views? Do you find it difficult to support them (emotionally or otherwise) because of their choices? I don't think so? What trait do you feel you lack that you wish you possessed? Independence and confidence would be nice... Have you ever considered writing your memoirs? No. Do you find it difficult to stay invested in online relationships? God no. I love my online friends. Half of 'em more than "irl" ones. Are you the type of person who pays close attention to the release dates of movies, music, etc., and will, for example, go see a movie or buy an album on the date it is released? If so, when is the last time you did so? I have to be VERY invested in it to care THAT much. It happened most recently when Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty premiered. Do you have any stickers on your laptop? No. Would you rather have a job for which you had to go in early in the morning or one you had to stay late into the evening at? Early in the morning. I'm in a better mood in the morning. Do you use any apps to track your health or medications? I have a calorie-counting app, as well as one to track my period. Whose opinions/recommendations do you value most? My mom's, best friend's, and psychiatrist's. If you could’ve been at any historical event, which would you have liked to witness firsthand? I don't really know. Maybe the very first Pride event? Is there something that you really want to do but are afraid of doing? If so, why are you afraid of doing it? Ride a rollercoaster, for one. I know I never will, though. I'm too afraid of throwing up, but even more realistically, I fear passing out before of the twisting and turning and just standing up makes me very dizzy. My blood pressure is STUPID low. What is something society “expects” you to do that you don’t want to do and/or don’t plan on doing? Have kids. That's a big 'ole fat no from me. Have Jehovah's Witnesses ever come to your door? Twice at least. Are you well-known by people in your area? No. Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis? No, thank Christ. It sounds terrifying. What's your favourite type of bird? Barn owls. Melanistic ones, to be exact. Stunning. What tv show(s) have you been watching currently? I'm only keeping up with Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty. Have you ever dated a smoker? For less than a day. Do you share a middle name with any of your siblings? Yes. Have you ever been a member in a band? No. Besides the school band. Can you cry on command? If so, have you ever used it to your advantage? No. Do you have separate emails for personal and business? No. Have you ever missed a flight? Yes. Have you ever seen a lunar eclipse? Multiple times. Have you ever taken a ride in a convertible? I think once with my brother. Why did you last need to use a band-aid? I'unno. What fruit do you eat most often? Apples. Who was the last person you visited in the hospital? My ma. Has someone ever tried to start an argument with you over Facebook? What happened? A few times. I don't feel like thinking over this. Have you ever had an unusual type of milk (eg. oat, rice, almond)? I've tried almond milk, and I hated it. If you could experience life as a Disney princess for a week, which princess would you pick and why? uhhhhhh idk When you’re at home, do you spend most of your time in your room? I'm essentially always in my room. If you like to sleep in late, have your parents ever told you off for doing so? No. Do you find piercings attractive? Yep. Do you like potato chips? Loooove 'em. What’s the most stalker-like/creepy thing you’ve ever done? If you don’t think you’ve done anything like that, what’s the most stalker-like thing someone’s done to you? Nothing beyond checking Jason's Facebook sometimes after the breakup, I think. Even that though I wouldn't recommend doing. You're just going to get yourself hurt. Stay away from exes' profiles. Do you think it’s a double standard that a woman can hit a man and expect to get away with it, but if a man hits a woman it’s assault? Yep. I don't give a fuck what's in your pants, you don't hit anybody unless you're fighting to defend yourself. What’s your favorite old Disney movie and favorite new Disney movie? I mean... define "old." I'll go with The Lion King for old, and for new, uh... Finding Dory, probs. Name something “trendy” or popular that you dislike. I don't really know what IS trendy right now... Is Snapchat still "in?" Because I've never gotten that. “Dirty talk” in the bedroom…love it, like it, don’t care, dislike it, or hate it? I think I'm kinda neutral about it? Like I mean it also depends on exactly what is said. I prefer more loving talk, though. What is/are your favorite type(s) of ethnic food, and what’s your favorite food within that type? I'm a basic fatass that likes American cuisine most, aha... Like give me a cheeseburger and I'm happy lmao. How would you describe your relationship with your hair over the years? I love it more now at a short length than I ever did long. When it was long and I was in my deepest depression, I was awful about brushing it. It would get so knotted. Like looking back, it nearly makes me shiver. I HIGHLY recommend cutting your hair for anyone who struggles with selfcare. How do you feel about your SO daily/regularly checking up on a couple of his exes on social media? I'm single, but hypothetically, if you're checking an ex's page nearly every day, I would not be okay with that. I'm totally fine with exes remaining friends and just cordially talking now and again, but that's it. It's a respect thing. Do you prefer your guy to wear cologne or not? I personally like cologne if it's not overwhelming. I really don't care if you wear it or not, though. Ladies, how important is it to you that your SO wears/would wear a wedding ring? This survey is so heteronormative. But anyway, unless there was an issue like it not fitting, I'd want my spouse to wear their ring. What was the turning point that led you to decide for or against having children? There are a lot of reasons I don't want kids. I'm too selfish with my "me" time, I stress out too easily, I don't want to dedicate my life to keeping another person alive and fed and happy, I have bad genes... I could go on and on. I just wouldn't be a good, "present" enough mom. I am much more interested in ensuring *I* am okay. Is having your “dream” wedding really that important to have? Not at all. I mean I want a smooth and memorable wedding, but I'm not obsessed with it being perfect. Do you consider it cheating if your SO goes to a strip club and then doesn’t tell you? That's certainly not cheating, but I wouldn't like it. Being secretive about anything in a relationship is unhealthy, imo. I'd be hurt and also very insecure because I wouldn't feel like "enough." How old is too old for trick-or-treating? Honestly? I don't think you ever are. Like come on, does it REALLY matter? Let people have fun. I don't do it because of societal standards, but I would if I didn't care about being judged. Do you sleep with your arms over or under the covers? It depends on the temperature, but I normally wake up with them under. Do you own any t-shirts of your favorite band? I have an Ozzy one stored somewhere, but it doesn't fit me now. There was another I really liked too, but that one is WAY too small now. Fries or onion rings? Fries. I'm not a fan of onion rings. True/False: you’ve had an odd dream this week. Story of my life. I had one last night where I kept dying in different ways, and I actually felt the pain, like drowning in magma. Do you find tattoo sleeves attractive? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Do you like carving pumpkins? Yeah. What’s an animal you want to have as a pet but can’t? My mom has absolutely forbidden me to get a tarantula (uh, many tarantulas in my case) until I move out, lol. That doesn't stop me from checking Craigslist like every day. ;_; Have your parents ever caught you drinking? "Caught," no. Any time I've drunk, I've had permission or was a legal adult by then. How would you react if your celebrity crush came to your door? First be humiliated at my appearance and then absolutely pass out lmao. Has your mom/dad ever walked in on you kissing or anything more with someone? No, thank fuck. The person you have a crush on is drunk and goes to kiss you, you know they don’t realize what they’re doing, but do you kiss anyways? If I know it's something they wouldn't do sober, absolutely not. What would you prefer to get from a guy/girl: flowers, a hand written poem, a picture he drew of you or a nice night out? Any would be lovely, but the poem would appeal most to me because of the amount of thought that goes into poetry. Do you any shirts with any kind of images of food on them? What? I don't think so, no. Which holiday is the most fun to decorate for? Halloween. What was the first website you had an email account on? Yahoo. Have you ever written a fanfic? No. Tattoos or piercings? Both are grand, but tats win. What’s the last gross movie/show/video you saw? I saw this picture of a snake split open that had eaten another snake. Would you rather live in a huuuge house or a little cozy one? Lil cozy one! I don't want more space than is needed for cleaning reasons, as well as price. Do you have a tutor for anything? No. Who’s the best kisser you know? Jason was. Has anyone ever threatened you with a knife? No. I'd like it to stay that way. (If you’re a girl) Has anyone ever called you "shortie" instead of girl? Ew, no. Do you have a deep voice? For a woman, yes. Do you play games with boys/girls, like 'hard to get’? Hi, I'm an adult. Is there a Sonic where you live? YES. It's my fave fast-food place. What do you like on your pizza? I have three go-tos depending on my mood: Pepperoni, jalapenos, or meat lovers.

Hi for the ship thing and headcanons, please do jolex 🥰
Who is a night owl:
dont get me wrong, they both most definitely will stay up late together or both pass out before 9pm on a Friday night, but some days when the depression hits, its jsut different and Jo is definitely more of the night owl. Alex is more of a morning person and Jo would rather sleep like the dead.
Who is a morning person:
as we’ve discovered, more so Alex esp when they have kiddos. Alex is the one to get up with them early and let Jo sleep, he makes breakfast with the kids’ help and keeps their room quiet for jo to get some extra sleep but will unleash their evil spawns when he deems she’s slept in long enough.
Are they cuddlers:
some days, yes, mostly. jo definitely loves the affection from someone who genuinely loves and wants her back. but there are days where she literally is like “do not come near me with your (temperature) hot body Alexander Michael Karev, you are a heater and I am already too warm”
Who is the big spoon and who is the little spoon:
Alex is def the big spoon. Jo likes cuddling into him because sh feels safe, he feels like home. but she def has big spooned him too it’s a 50/50 relationship we have equal roles people
What is their favourite sleeping position:
no lie, both spread out like starfish in their bed.
Who steals all the blankets:
Jo. Alex is a space heater and doesnt need blankets she freezes and likes being snuggled up and warm
What they wear to bed:
I mean some nights, nothing, but like jo def loves Alex’s old Iowa state shirts or his wrestling shirts from HS that smell like him. an old worn in t-shirt, anything with a pair of booty shorts or his boxers even. and Alex will just wear a t-shirt and boxers or flannels in the winter.
Who likes seeing the other wearing their t-shirt:
Alex wholeheartedly loves when jo wears his shirts unless its his favorite flannel and she steals it “come on, jo. you know that’s my favorite one. I wear it all the time.” its exactly why she takes it.
Who falls asleep mid-conversation:
jo, unintentionally. sometimes the insomnia hits and she won’t have slept for a couple days so when life catches back up to her she will fall asleep randomly. even more so while pregnant and right after their daughter is born. she just “night night Josephine”
Who wakes up in the middle of the night with nightmares:
they both have their fair share of horrid nightmares. Alex’s deal a lot with his trauma of growing up. his mom pulling various knives on his siblings and dad attacking them. even nightmares of jo leaving him like Izzie did and he wakes up without her.
jo’s are terrifying as well. she dreams that Paul’s death was just an illusion and that hes still out there and he’ll still come and get her. she wakes up drenched in a cold sweat and Alex holds her and they pull up his death certificate on the gsm database to prove it. she also has nightmares about being abandoned again. dreams of herself as a baby, dreams of her mother leaving her at that firestation. horrid nightmares. and Alex just holds her. she also has many nightmares about Alex abandoning her too just like her mother abandoned her but he’s never done that he’s always there when she wakes up and everything is okay again
Who accidentally punched the other in their sleep:
jo is an absolute horrible bed partner. she does NOT sleep still. she will move around so much during sleep its dangerous. yes, Alex did wake up with a bruise across his cheek one night from an elbow to the face...
Who can’t keep their hands to themself:
both of them. theyre notorious horndogs no autocorrect they are not corndogs please stop correcting me when you’re wrong
and just because, im throwing in the parenting meme one too bc my heart melts
packs the lunches
Alex. he gets up with the kids in the mornings and also we do not trust jo to make their children food. she’d feed them boxed Mac n cheese and take out the entirety of their lives. and while they love that and Alex wouldn’t care if it was jsut them, their kids need real food. he packs them lunchables and uncrustables but at least its a little more of a variety.
blows raspberries while cuddling
jo, more so. they both do, but jo LOVES a good chunky baby belly she can blow raspberries onto. and yes she leaves maroon lipstick marks on chubby cheeks and bellies.
is the tickle monster
Alex. and she runs to mommy to save her from daddy! “oh, now you want mommy, huh? as soon as daddy is the tickle monster all you want is mommy? not when I wanted cuddles, or we picked you up from daycare or I dont know, I gave birth to you and wanted snuggles you cry and want daddy but now hes the tickle monster you want me?” and jo scoops her up and tries saving her but ultimately they lose and get attacked in their very large bed by the tickle monster.
gives life lesson speeches
they both do just depending on the situations.
when the girls start dating, jo sits them all down separately, and explains to them a bit of her past. letting them know that no man should ever lay hands on them. she teaches them how to defend themselves and Alex ofc shows them in example how women should be treated. Alex makes it clear that if a guy or girl ever should treat his daughters or his son in any other way than he treats jo, that he needs to know and gOD forbiD one of them lay a finger on one of his children there WILL be hell to pay. jo obviously consoles him in front of her children but tells him “u already have a record. if anyone lays hands on our children I will be putting them in the ground not you”
kisses the boo-boos
Alex he is a pushover and 100% makes sure all boo-boos are kissed and even when the kids are way too old for having their boo-boos kissed, he makes sure the bandaids that are no longer avengers or dinosaur or unicorn or princess themed, have been properly kissed. even through protests of “dad, im not five anymore I dont need my bandaids kissed” “how do you expect them to heal, then, CJ? you’re my most clumsy kid, and I have had to kiss all your boo-boos and never once have I not. thats why you’re still in once piece”
breaks the bad news
jo makes Alex do it most times. she claims she’s the fun parent and tries to stay the fun parent by making Alex break bad news like “we cannot get another dog” she blames it on Alex but then brings home a puppy the following week.
joins the PTA
listen. LISTEN. when Greyson started big kid school, in kindergarten, they placed her in private school to give her everything they didnt have growing up. jo was determined to make sure she gave her daughter everything made sure she felt loved and was spoiled it was terrible. so jo, of course, sent her to Seattle Elementary academy and was not paying attention when she signed some forms signing up to be in the PTA. she loathed it so much and “Alex im sorry I cant do this. I know we wanted to give Gracie everything we didnt have growing up but I cant take it I cant take the private school. the volunteer hours the strict dress code violations? she is FIVE. I also have to volunteer FORTY HOURS this year alone. no! I am a surgeon, a mother of two and im pregnant! I do not have time for this! all these PTA moms are stay at home moms who have nothing better to do than gossip about their neighbors and drink wine. and I swear to god if I have to hear about Jessica’s fucking essential oils pyramid scheme one more time I will shove those oils so far up her a––” “Jo! Look, Ali, mommy’s here!” Alex interrupts her just in time. he doesnt blame her. those private school moms are quiet the handful. every time, one of them has the nerve to hit on him. “and I swear, if one more of those moms hits on you in front of me, im going to backhand her with my engagement ring on. no hate to most of them, but theyre too much” they end up ending Gracie, and Ali and the rest of the kids to public school just like they had grown up in and did just fine.
crashes sleepovers with embarrassing stories
oh one hundred and ten percent Alexander Michael Karev. he will find any moment to break out embarrassing stories and photos. hell, even when Zola, Bailey, ellis, Sofia, Harriet, scout, any of the bunch come over he’ll embarrass them too!
gives the crazy nicknames
not really either of them (that ive figured out in the moment) (the kkc kids do not have crazy nicknames yet) (we jsut have Gracie for Greyson, Ali for Alice, and CJ for Cristina Jo. Alexis goes by Sissy because of Alexis and Alexa and Eli usually goes by bubba seeing as how that’s what the twins have called each other growing up with Izzie and that stuck)
thank you so much for these! I loved loved loved doing them! even threw in some KKC universe things so if yall have questions about that feel free to ask I will share! tho there is yet to have a fic out about them yet… its been a bit difficult with writers block /:

Laying Hands: Chapter 8
Read on AO3
A Complete Party
Before long, the two of them had returned to their separate reading. Althea marveled at the speed with which Loki was devouring the tome in his hands, emphasized by the crisp sound of the ancient pages turning every few seconds.
Stealing a move from his playbook, she addressed him without looking up from her text. “Either you’re reading a picture book or you’re the fastest reader I’ve ever seen,” she said light-heartedly.
“The latter,” he replied simply. “Though I admit I’m rather familiar with this volume. I’ve read it many times.”
“What’s it about?” Althea set her copy of The Count of Monte Cristo aside, enticed by the opportunity to learn more about the enigmatic god.
“Candlemaking.”
Althea looked at him blankly, taken by surprise. “…really? And that’s… that’s something you’re into, then?”
Loki lowered the book, his expression a mixture of exasperation and amusement.
“Do I look like someone who makes candles in their spare time?”
Althea answered with an exaggerated shrug of her shoulders. “How would I know? Why would you keep rereading a book about making candles if you’re not interested?”
Loki tensed, the amusement falling from his face. “I… wasn’t able to bring many Asgardian texts with me. My selection is a little limited as a result.”
Althea peered past Loki to the wall of stuffed bookshelves behind him. “There are plenty of books here. I’m sure you could find something a little more entertaining than a book about wax.”
“Midgardian books,” he scoffed. “I’m not interested in what passes for literature on this backward planet.” He had, in actuality, dipped into Stark’s impressive library many times, even finding a few pieces that he quite enjoyed, but he refused to admit that to her. Better to keep her, like everyone else, at arm's length, he reasoned. And since she neither feared nor hated him like the rest of her race, he would just have to rely on his signature air of superiority.
“You are so…. pompous,” she said, shaking her head.
Loki expected her expression to match her harsh words but found she was smiling, shaking her head.
“Here.” She stuck her copy of The Count of Monte Cristo out for him. She still had a few chapters left in the novel, but she figured she’d get it back soon enough - it wouldn’t take Loki long to get through the French work. “You’ll like this,” she insisted, extending it out a little further.
Loki hesitantly reached out to take the book from her hand. He held it gingerly, sneering as though it were made from refuse. “And what is this about?”
“Oh the usual,” she feigned, “adventure, love…”
Loki rolled his eyes dramatically.
“…betrayal, prison breaks, deceit, vengeance, some murder,” she continued, awaiting his reaction.
Loki’s eyebrows raised. Althea figured the darker themes would appeal to him.
Loki studied the cover with an appraising look. “I suppose I could give it a try.” He sounded reluctant, but quickly cracked the cover and began reading.
Her reading material now firmly occupying Loki’s attention, Althea decided to fix herself a snack. The perpetually stocked fridge made the task equal parts easy and challenging and she found herself trying to choose amongst the ample selection for a few minutes. When she finally emerged, the ingredients for a simple salad in hand, she caught Loki making his exit.
“Still wordlessly fleeing rooms, then?”, Althea called out after him.
“It’s about to become a little crowded for my taste,” he replied, neither turning around nor pausing his stride.
Althea watched him go, realizing that the two of them had, essentially, just spent the day together. She’d even go so far as to call it a nice day together. Sure, Loki had been snarky and more than a little haughty, but she was proud of her ability to keep up with him. She’d even caught him off-guard a few times, though he’d be loath to admit it. As she assembled her salad she pondered what book she would recommend to the other-worldly prince next.
From a young age, her parents had encouraged her penchant for reading, often pushing her towards more and more difficult works. She had been steadily making her way through ‘the classics’ with their guidance. “You have to start with the classics,” her mother had told her. “You can learn just about anything about the world through them.”
“Plus, you’ll have a leg up in school. Easier to write a book report on something you’ve already read,” her father had added, always the more practical of the two.
It was one of the few concrete memories she had left of her parents. Althea tried to push the nostalgic recollection aside. If she didn’t think about them, then she didn’t have to think about their demise. She focused instead on adding just the right number of croutons to the bed of greens in front of her.
She’d only taken a few bites when she heard the Quinjet landing behind her, signaling the return of Steve Rogers and the rest. She turned to greet them as they made their way back inside.
“You do realize there are other rooms in this place,” quipped Tony immediately heading to the bar to fix himself a drink. “This building’s got 93 floors and you’ve got clearance for oh, 20 of them? You don’t have to spend all your time here, you know.”
“I like the view,” she mumbled through a mouthful of spinach, shrugging. She swallowed before continuing. I like reading in the window seats. Not much else for me to do.”
“Yeah, well, we’ll have to do something about that,” Tony said, throwing a meaningful look towards Steve and Natasha in turn.
“You and my brother have that in common,” Thor said, smiling. Althea wondered if he was referring to reading by the window or having nothing else to do.
“I know,” she told him, stabbing another forkful of greens and chasing a rather evasive crouton around the bowl. “I actually got him to read a book from Earth: The Count of Monte Cristo,” she boasted.
“Huh. Good choice. That’ll appeal to the whole ‘victim complex’ deal he’s got going on,” Tony commended.
“Stark…” Thor warned. It was endearing, the way he stood up for his brother, even against Stark’s throwaway jokes.
“Actually, I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten to that one yet,” Tony continued, unperturbed.
“…what?” Althea looked at him, her eyebrows knitted in confusion.
“That guy’s a voracious reader. Goes through about three books a day sometimes,” Nat chimed in as she passed Althea to grab a bottle of water from the refrigerator.
“Loki said he only read books from Asgard,” Althea persisted. “He said our literature was below him.”
“That arrogant little shit,” Tony cursed, rolling his eyes. “He’s read just about every book in the place.”
“One time I watched him read all of Lord of the Rings in one sitting. He even read The Silmarillion,” Bruce interjected, his expression one of exaggerated disbelief. “Who does that?”
“That arrogant little shit,” Althea echoed. Still, she smiled to herself. Loki could pretend he held nothing but disdain for humans, but now she knew better. She looked forward to calling him out on his lie.
“We’ve got more important things to discuss than Loki’s reading habits,” Steve reminded them dutifully.
“Right, yeah.” Tony looked at Althea, his playful demeanor gone. “So kid, you’ve been staying with us for a while now. We finally know why Hydra was interested in you and you’re not a secret from SHIELD anymore. Really, there’s no longer a reason for us to keep you here.”
Althea felt the blood drain from her face. Before accidentally healing Loki and revealing her ability to the rest of the Avengers, she had been afraid they would continue Hydra’s experimentations. When the team had left this morning, she’d been worried that they’d hand her over to yet another shadowy organization. She’d never considered that they’d simply turn her out, leave her to her own devices in the world, abandon her. It was suddenly harder to breathe. She didn’t know anyone outside this tower. She was otherwise entirely alone. How would she get by? What would she do?
“Jesus, Tony, you couldn’t think of a better way to phrase that?”, scolded Natasha.
“What Tony means to say,” Steve shot the billionaire an exasperated look, “is that you don’t have to stay here if you don’t want to. No one’s kicking you out, but you’re free to go if you want.”
“I don’t have anywhere to go,” Althea said defeatedly. “I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
“I could, of course, help you out there,” Tony told her flippantly. “Set you up with a place, some scratch, even a job. You could live the rest of your life in comfortable obscurity, free from the troubles of the world.” He paused then, letting the idea sink in. “Or, and here’s an interesting idea, you could join us. This party could use a cleric.”
“A what?” Thor and Steve posed the question in unison. Off to the side, Bruce snorted. Natasha rolled her eyes.
“A cleric… you know, a healer? We’ve got just about every other class spoken for. Cap’s our fighter. Nat’s a monk and Clint’s a ranger. Banner is clearly the barbarian, that one’s so obvious it’s not even funny. We even have a paladin with Thor bringing his god power into the mix, and I’m clearly a rogue. A cleric would really round out the gang.”“Eh, you’re more of an artificer, Tony,” Bruce cut in, now openly chuckling.
“Fair enough. I’m an artificer with roguish good looks.”
“Will someone tell me what in the world he’s going on about?”, Steve asked, exhausted by the conversation’s left turn.
“Dungeons and Dragons, old-timer,” a nonplussed Tony answered.
“I have fought many dragons and even I am confused,” said Thor.
“It’s a kind of roleplaying game. Every player has a different class and skills to… wait, you’ve fought dragons? Like, actual, fire-breathing dragons?” Bruce stared at Thor in amazement.
Before Thor could launch into another boastful tale, Tony cut him off. “My point is, we could use someone like you on the team, Thea. So what do you say? Want to be an Avenger?”
All eyes turned to Althea. She stood frozen on the spot, eyes wide and jaw slack. For a moment it looked like she wouldn’t respond. Finally, she spoke. “You want me to join you? To… to fight crime and save the world and stuff?” Her voice was breathy in her disbelief.
“Only if you want to,” assured Steve, stepping forward. “It’s entirely up to you. I won't lie to you, it's a dangerous job. No one would blame you for saying no, but we think you’d be a good addition to the team.”
Althea focused on him, finding his warmth and confidence comforting. “I don’t know the first thing about fighting.”
“You don’t have to do any fighting,” Steve answered, “but it sure would be nice to have someone like you around in case someone gets hurt.”
“You’re like the Swiss Army medic, kid,” Tony added.
Natasha moved to stand beside Steve. Her expression was softer than any Althea had ever seen her wear. “I know healing others causes you pain, and I know you’ve had enough pain for a lifetime. But I also know you want to help people. This could be your opportunity; your chance to use that power for good.” The two women looked at each other, a silent understanding passing between them. Althea knew very little about Natasha or her past, but she was starting to realize the two might have more in common than she’d guessed.
“You don’t have to decide now,” Steve began. “You can-“
“I’ll do it,” Althea cut him off. “I want to help, anyway I can.”

Yung Waitloz (2012 me’s rapper name)
(If you’d like to read this off my wix blog here’s the link: https://erikatriesall.wixsite.com/tlhodia)
If you get triggered by topics concerning body image and weight loss then proceed with caution or don’t proceed at all.
I probably discuss way too much personal stuff online, but hey, who doesn’t appreciate a little oversharing every once in a while?
I have never been skinny or slim, let’s start there. Sure, I was a tiny baby, but that was about it. I have always been bigger than a lot of my classmates and even now I’m in no way built like a Victoria’s Secret model. Also, keep in mind that I’ve never been clinically obese or severely overweight. Got it? Cool.
Enter My Mom. She has been on my case to lose weight for as long as I remember. I admit, there were times when I was particularly chonky, but that’s beside the point. I remember being 8-9 years old when she spent over 15 minutes ridiculing and calling me out on how my spandex gym tights made noises as my thighs rubbed together during our uphill walk around the residential estate. She was also and still is, fond of pinching my “love-handles” (in quotes because if I remember “You can’t even call them love handles because you have nobody loving you.”),  with her long-ass, sharp nails whenever they appeared over the waistband of my pants.
(I’m not bitter or anything)
Essentially, 8-year-old me was told to lose weight enough times to try. I ate the food they gave me, and only what they gave me, and went on walks occasionally with My Mom (which I despised because I really didn’t leave the comfort of my room to be berated by my birth giver). I even started taking netball more seriously and started athletics training. What I also started doing was paying close attention to the bodies of girls around me and playing spot the difference. Not too long afterwards I learned to hate clothes shopping and hide in group photos. When I look through photo albums and my parent’s phone galleries now, it’s plain to see that I was an Olympic grade camera dodger.
Fast forward a few years. Now I’m 11-12 years old. I’ve grown taller and older, so my weight distribution has changed, but I’m still not skinny. My Mom is still on me to lose weight, even more so now that I’m older and maturing into “womanhood” because apparently, it is a crime to wear pants only a few sizes smaller than your mother of similar body structure and lesser height. Now that I’m older and more educated, I’ve realized that even though I was playing a sport and jogging and going for aerobics with my mom occasionally, I won’t get skinny unless I change my diet. In fact, there was a time when some government nurses came to do regional health checks at school and some data included body weight (there was a crowd around me when it was my turn to hop on the scale. The boys laughed, I went to the bathroom and cried. But it’s all good). The nurses then asked me questions about stuff like the bread we had at home, if I ate junk food or added sugar, stuff like that. That’s when it clicked. It clicked real hard.
A typical school lunch packed by My Mom comprised a hotdog/ham sandwich/homemade burger, a packet of chips/crisps and a juice box or Tropica when she was feeling generous. Which is what my brothers and a lot of my friends were packing to school with no problems: but I’m not built like those people so I can’t eat like them, right? The lunch had to go. And go it did. And so did pretty much all my other regular meals.
If My Mom was distracted with getting ready for work, I’d ditch breakfast and lie about it, then hop onto the school bus. Getting rid of the stuff in my lunchbox wasn’t too difficult to do because I had friends who were happy to help. This meant that for the first 12 hours of the day all I had was a juice box or nothing at all. It worked. My Mom noticed and complimented my improved physique along with a handful of relatives. But was I skinny? Not even.
Then came the Google searches. “How to lose weight quickly” “How to get skinny” “How to get a thigh gap” “How to lose thigh fat fast” Just to name a few.
That’s when I discovered the infamous pro-anorexia community. Or should I say that’s when they found me? I’m not too sure.
Over the school holidays, I started with the so-called “K-pop” diets and did YouTube workouts every night with more consistency than my prayer life. Two boiled eggs for breakfast, some milk for lunch (which was disastrous because apparently, I’m lactose intolerant), and for dinner… water, with or without lemon or tea. It really depended on the day. Not that hard to get away with, really. When the fat girl says they’re not hungry, who are you to force them?
But I couldn’t lose weight fast enough. Sure, slowly killing myself was working, but was I skinny? Nah.
So, I turned to “thinspo” and “pretty girl diet” challenges and "pro-ana" coaches to guide me. (If you're somebody who thinks it's okay to coax children into dangerous eating disorders and potentially death, you deserve a chair. But make it electric. Periodt.) My stomach was flattening, and my pants came on a lot easier, but the truth was I was utterly miserable. Getting skinny was all I thought about. And I’m not talking about Victoria’s Secret model skinny, I got to a point where I was jealous of the science lab skeleton, no jokes. Food wasn’t food anymore; it was just numbers and macros. I was always dizzy and cranky and my hair was falling out and even though I had done it for long enough to overcome the hunger pangs, there was a new pain, one that manifested in my chest and couldn’t be treated with sleep or Panado. I was the only one on holiday for three months, so nobody noticed.
I was twelve when I first tried to off myself with prescription drugs. All because I couldn’t be skinny and in my head that meant I couldn’t be pretty, or loved, or befriended. I woke up after a 8-hour “nap” to find that nothing had changed.
Why am I exposing myself by telling this story?
If you’re a parent or sibling or anyone who cares for a child who you think needs to lose weight for whatever reason (hopefully for health-related reasons, not purely aesthetics), please do not leave them to their own devices. They will search for authoritative guidance elsewhere, and the wrong people may find them. People who prescribe oxygen as a meal plan and perpetuate the notion that if you can pinch at your flesh, then you are ugly and will remain ugly until you are feather-light. Despite being one of the smartest kids in my grade, I still fell for it. (Update: I’m still not skinny. I probably only fucked up my metabolism and lost hair. -100/10, would not recommend to my worst enemy.)
Good news is at some point I got sick and tired of feeling the way I did. My suicide attempt failed miserably but instead of trying again, I uninstalled all my calorie counter and fitness apps, tossed all my magazines in the trash and talked to my mom and made it a point to talk to friends more, especially those who understood in some way or another. The Body Positivity movement was rising, and that helped a lot. Big ups to all the lovely people on YouTube who post videos on #recovery.
But experiences like this don’t just go away. You don’t forget and move on. I still have relapses, I still feel insurmountable guilt after eating, I still feel like I would rather eat baked rat than gain weight, I still go through binge-restrict cycles. All stemming from events that happened over 8 years ago.
My Mom had some level of good intention, I won't disregard that. People on her side of the family suffer from chronic illnesses that can all be prevented if not managed better through proper diet and exercise and she doesn't want her kids developing high blood pressure at age 13. Fine, I get it. But damn.
If you can avoid doing this to yourself or someone impressionable in your life, please do. Model healthy behaviours for your kids to adopt and talk health; not snatched waistlines, not thigh gaps nor scale readings. Teach your kids not to base the entirety of their worth on their appearance. And do not, under any circumstances, body shame them.
Please?
Once again, a lot of what is here is based on personal experience and opinion (‘coz it’s my blog, duh’). If you have separate ideas or any disagreements, bring them up in the comments or email me. I love a good debate.
Also, if you currently relate to anything mentioned in this post, take this as your sign to get better. Trust me, you're worth it.
xoxo

As the Raven Flies: Part 7
Is she super late? Yes. Is she here? Finally. So I won’t say anymore, since I’ve been apologizing for how late this is the past couple of days. The good news is, I’m not queueing it so you can all tell me I’m trash immediately.

Chapter 7: In which, you have leveled up and unlocked the tragic backstory
Vivien’s ears were still ringing. Ringing, ringing, ringing. It was loud. Everything else was quiet, but the ringing in her ears was absolutely deafening, and to add to it, her eyes were swimming with tears so that she couldn’t see a thing. The panic of it only made her tear up more, breathing too fast.
She closed her eyes, thinking about what Matt would say. “If you can’t hear, and you can’t see, what do you have left?” Touch. She could still feel.
James' arms were wrapped tight around her, body over top of hers. James. Was he alright? Was he hurt?
She struggled to turn over, but James was too heavy. Apparently, he realized her effort though, slowly, cautiously helping her up. He still had his arms around her, one over her shoulder and the other looped around her waist as she frantically blinked the tears out of her eyes so that she could see once again. She still couldn’t hear anything except the ringing, but she had once gotten a crash course in lip-reading from Jessica, and what James was saying wasn’t too hard to make out.
“Are you okay?”
She nodded her head. She looked him over, but he seemed to be fine. Even his stupid leather jacket was still totally intact.
“I can’t hear anything,” she said slowly, making sure to make the motions with her mouth obvious. “Can you?”
He shook his head back at her.
“Frank and Karen?”
He looked over his shoulder, and Vivien’s gaze followed his. Her worries were assuaged at what she saw. Frank had protected Karen, and it looked like most of the fallout and debris had missed them too. Whoever had set this bomb hadn’t done a very good job of it. Either that or they wanted everyone in the room to survive.
What kind of mango brain used explosives as a scare tactic?
She steadied her breathing, waiting for the ringing in her ears to fade as she looked around at the wreckage of the kitchen. The explosion had been relatively small, but enough to pretty much take out the counters. The island and Vivien’s favorite bar stool were definitely toast, but on the bright side, they still had floors, walls and a ceiling. So that was something. The table they were sitting under had some debris on top of it, but it seemed like it was holding the weight pretty well. She tried to push back the thought that if Karen had been a foot closer to the kitchen she probably would have been blown to bits.
Slowly, she began to hear things again, dimly. Someone was crying quietly. Oh, wait. That was her. Probably the shock.
James’ was running a hand through her hair, mindlessly mumbling reassurances to her that broke through the ringing.
“You’re okay. You’re alright. Everyone is okay, Viv. It’s alright. I’ve got you. I’m not going to let you go, okay? We’re going to be just fine,” he whispered into her ear.
“Vivien? Vivien, are you okay?” Karen sounded shaken, like she had cried a little too.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m alright K. James prote-”
Frank yanked James up by his arm, slamming him into the nearest wall that didn’t look like it was going to potentially fall over. He buried his face into the sunny yellow paint, twisting his arm into his back.
Vivien screamed. “Frank!”
“Who are you?” Frank growled.
“I don’t know what you mean-” James stammered.
“I mean, who are you? Normal people don’t react to bomb threats that fast. So I’m going to need an explanation, otherwise, I’ll be forced to assume that you’re the guy who set us all up to explode, and that would be very, very bad for you.”
“Frank let him go!” Vivien pulled at Frank’s arm, but Karen pulled her back.
“He’s got a point, Vivien. I saw how fast James moved. It was...too fast.”
“If you hurt that little girl so help me you will wish you’d been blown up you son of a-”
“I didn’t set the bomb!” James yelled. “That being said, I do owe you an explanation. I wouldn’t mind it if you let me go first, though.”
“Yeah, not going to happen.” Frank scoffed, pressing him further into the wall while James choked on smoke.
“Frank, please. He saved me,” Vivien begged.
Frank deliberated, gritting his teeth. He gave James one final shove before backing off, but not too far. If James made a move Frank would make a much more dangerous one.
James started speaking. “You’ve all heard of Danny Rand, right?”
“Hard not to whe-” Vivien stopped herself. “when he’s so famous and everything. Wild, huh?”
“You’re a bad liar, Vivien. Which I guess is fitting, since you just started going by Diviner, right?”
Vivien’s eyes widened. “How did you-”
“Because Danny Rand is my uncle. Sort of.”
“Elaborate.” Frank crossed his arms over his chest.
“I mean, he isn’t officially my uncle, but he might as well be. He and my Dad were best friends, so when Danny went off to become a ninja, he shared a few tricks. So uhh...yeah. I guess you’re not wrong about me not exactly being a normal teenager.” James chuckled slightly.
“But you’re not a hero yourself,” Karen said.
“No. Always wanted to be, but Danny would kick my butt if I even tried.”
“I might still kick your sorry little-”
“Frank!” Vivien snapped.
“I don’t like people who lie about who they are.”
“He never lied. He just...didn’t bring it up,” Vivien defended.
“And why didn’t he?”
“Well it’s not exactly something I go around telling people. ‘Hey everyone, my uncle is that super mysterious ninja guy with a magical glowing fist, but no worries! I don’t glow!’“
Vivien couldn’t help but laugh a little, causing Frank to glance at her out of the corner of his eye and smile slightly.
“Alright, fine, But you knew who I was when we met, didn’t you?”
“Yeah. Ice cream parlor didn’t seem like the appropriate place to bring it up though. Especially considering you might have tried to shove me into a wall, which would have made for an awkward double chocolate fudge scoop.”
“I would suggest you cut it out with the wisecracking kid.”
“From what I know about you, Frank, if you wanted to kill me you would have already done it 5 minutes ago.”
There was a pause, then Frank smirked. “Apparently you really did learn a thing or two from your uncle.”
“Nah. That one I figured out all by myself.”
“You do have a bit of a reputation, Frank,” Vivien said.
Frank scowled deeper.
“So let me get this straight,” Karen said. “Danny -as in, Daniel Rand Danny, as in Iron Fist Danny- is your honorary uncle and also trained you in martial arts or whatever magical bullcrap he does?”
“Yeah, that’s...close enough.”
“You should head home James,” Vivien said softly. “We should all get out of here actually. I don’t think it’s very safe.”
“That’s an understatement,” Karen said.
“Where are you going to go?” James asked her.
“Well-”
“They’ll be coming with me,” Frank said.
“What?”
“You’re both still in danger. Until we get to the bottom of this, I think it would be best if you stayed with me.”
“Frank, I can take care of myself,” Karen said.
“Can you take care of yourself and a kid? Take it from someone who knows, it gets more difficult when you’re protecting someone else too.”\
Karen fell silent.
“Okay. But just until we find out who did this.”
“Whoever did this, it’s shoddy work. They’re either incredibly unskilled, or they weren’t trying to kill you. I’m guessing the former though.”
“Why do you say that?” Karen asked.
“Instinct, mostly. I’ve seen enough skilled setups to know the aftermath of one that isn’t. They spent too much time hiding it and not enough figuring out the proper way to set it off.”
Karen nodded, glancing over at Vivien. James had come to stand by her again, a hand gently set on the small of her back to keep her steady. She was swaying slightly on her feet, still a little pale.
“We can talk about this later,” Karen decided. “For now we should pack everything up and go. Frank, you should poke around now before the police get here because someone has surely called them already.”
“I’m going to take James home,” Vivien said.
“I’ll be okay, Viv. You should rest.”
She shook her head. “I want to make sure you get back safe. I can rest in the car. You up for driving?”
“Yeah.” James nodded.
“Then it’s settled.”
She hugged Karen goodbye before they each went their separate ways, Karen to grab essentials they would take to Frank’s with them, and Vivien to take James home before catching a bus to Frank’s address which she now had on a sticky note in her purse.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Vivien asked again as James started the car.
“Yeah. Are you?”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m alright. I just...I keep thinking about what could have happened to Karen if Frank hadn’t pulled her out of there.”
“Yeah, me too. It’s a lucky thing he rolled, otherwise they would have been sitting ducks.”
Vivien shuddered.
“So, make any enemies I should know about?” He tried to lighten the tone of the conversation, smiling at her.
Vivien went even soberer at that though, picking at her clothes and fidgeting in a thousand tiny little ways.
“Vivien? No offense, but that doesn’t seem like your ‘everything is all fine’ face.”
“Well my parents didn’t die on accident, James,” she snapped.
Immediately, she regretted it, staring down into her lap. James didn’t seem to mind though. If anything, he looked like he felt bad for bringing it up, however unintentional.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked, I-”
“It’s fine. Not like it wasn’t plastered all over the news. It’s not every day a couple gets murdered by their own son.”
“Still. It’s...”
“Crappy? Yeah. I know.” Vivien folded her arms over her chest, slumping down in the passenger seat.
James spoke into the silence. “Do you ever visit him?”
“In jail? No. I don’t want to.”
He nodded.
“You know what the worst part is?” Her voice cracked a little. “It’s the cameras. It’s all the stupid cameras. You just want to be left alone, but they never leave you alone. They ask you all these horrible, violating questions and then they point a camera in your face and they tell you to look their way and they scream things at you while you walk up the court steps. ‘Is it true you almost stabbed him? Is it true he didn’t kill you because you were an accomplice? Give us a comment on rumors that your parents were terrible people.’ It’s a circus, and it never stops.”
Vivien wiped angrily at the tears rolling down her face, gritting her teeth.
“Vivien, I...”
“Please. If I have to hear one more person tell me they’re sorry, or they don’t know what to say, or anything else, I’m going to scream.”
He just nodded again.
“You want to know the truth? The truth is that he didn’t kill me because I was a coward. The truth is that I hid just long enough to wait for the police to get there. The truth is that I did nothing to protect my parents. The truth, James, is that I should be dead right now. I should be...I should be...”
She didn’t know when she had started crying. Actually, she wasn’t really sure she had ever stopped. She did know that James was pulling over now, getting out of the car to climb into the passenger seat and hold her. He rocked her back and forth, not saying anything. And so, for a time, Vivien did nothing but cry.

Look in the telephone book or on the internet for a list of prospective doctors for you to consider.

The best time to pick your doctor or pediatrician is before your baby is born. During your third trimester is a good time to start interviewing pediatricians so you won't be pressed for time and energy to do it when the baby is born. Choosing a Doctor For Your Child
Before your baby is born, you should have a physician picked for your baby. The hospital staff will be asking the name of your pediatrician when you are checking into the hospital in labor. It is also good to have the decision made before the birth of your child because you will have enough things on your mind later, and you may need to visit your pediatrician within days of your baby's birth.
Many doctors' offices now have their websites, and you can gather some information from there to minimize the time you will be on the telephone with doctors' receptionists to get some answers to your questions. Do not be shy, and do ask questions ahead of time. You are entitled to know what to expect to pay and how available the doctor is.
Here are some things you should know before you make the first appointment for your baby. First, ask if they accept your insurance plan. Do they expect payment in full up front or will they bill you after they have heard back from your insurance? How do they charge follow-up visits? For instance, after a course of antibiotics for an ear infection do they charge a follow-up visit for the same amount as the first? Some doctors' offices will have what they call bench checks. With a bench check the doctor makes a rapid follow-through examination about the particular problem in question and you and your insurance are given a smaller bill.
Doctor, Pediatrician, Friend - A Person to Care For Your Child
Having a baby can mean making a lot of changes in your life, like find a doctor or pediatrician. Some of those changes are positive such as taking time off of work to spend raising your child for the first few years of their lives. Other changes can be more difficult to navigate such as learning to sleep when they sleep to avoid becoming sleep deprived.
And of course, some changes are just necessary such as going through the often tedious and stressful process of finding a nanny or a babysitter for the occasional night out or just needed help. Other decision that requires serious thought including making a choice between a family doctor and pediatrician for your child's primary medical provider.
Consistency is essential in selecting a doctor or pediatrician. Studies have shown that babies who see the same doctor for the first six months of their lives are more likely to receive necessary health test by the time they are two than babies who don't have that consistency in medical care. Also, seeing the same doctor means you don't have to rehash a medical history every time you visit which can be time-consuming and fraught with inconsistencies.
When your ready to start looking for a doctor or pediatrician to interview an excellent place to start is by asking friends, co-workers or family members who have children, what pediatrician they would recommend. Make an appointment with a child specialist in Kanpur near me to talk to potential doctors and begin your assessment from there.
When you called to schedule an appointment was the receptionist friendly and helpful? When you arrived for your interview was the waiting room clean with activities for children? One important feature to look for and ask about is about the separation of sick and healthy kids in the waiting rooms. Some doctors have an area for sick kids and a separate area for healthy kids. You have to remember not everyone in the doctor's waiting room is sick; some are there for vaccinations, well-child checks or follow up care. You don't want to be sitting in a place of sick children with your healthy baby. So ask about the waiting room policy on this issue and decide accordingly.
Other things to consider include the hours and availability of care after hours. At some point, your baby will get sick in the middle of the night, and you need to make sure your doctor is available 24/7 for their care.
Children grow and develop at a very rapid pace. It becomes exceedingly essential to know about the health care needs and the various services to be used for them which are entirely different from adults. Your child's health not only include physical; aspect alone but mental, as well as his social well being, also counts a lot. Most of the parents are aware of the basics to keep their children healthy including their diet offering healthy foods, enough hours of sound sleep and proper exercises for their proper growth and safety.
If any query feel free to contact us.

Packing Healthy School Lunches: Top 8 Sanity-Saving Tips
It's unsubstantiated that institution will be beginning quickly. It's a big year in our residence as my earliest kid is beginning kindergarten.
Although an amazing time, back-to-school can additionally be nerve wracking and appear discouraging after a summertime of not actually remaining in a routine or on a limited routine. When talking to other mothers, it seems that school-lunch packing is among the most daunting of back-to-school tasks. Exactly what should you stockpile on in the next number of weeks? What kind of lunchbox makes the many feeling? Is it OK to include a treat? How do you pack a lunch that's fun for your kid, yet also healthy? How in the world am I going to do this without peanut butter? These are some typical questions as well as worries that parents might have.
Here are some sanity-saving tips that will certainly relieve your worries and also give you the self-confidence that ... YOU CAN DO THIS!
1) Establish sensible lunch-packing assumptions on your own:
Try not to become wrapped up in creating the prettiest, funnest or most Pinterest-worthy lunch for your little eaters. Quite frankly, the moment and initiative you put right into this won't likely be met the recognition it is worthy of - children don't appreciate this stuff as long as we believe. As well as who has the time?!
Kids want scrumptious, attractive foods that they have a bit of say in. That's regarding it. Likewise, take the stress off when it involves the sorts of foods you're packing. In other words, don't fret whether every little thing in your child's lunch bag is organic, GMO-free, made from the ground up, 100% unrefined, or locally expanded. That's way excessive stress. Pack entire foods most of the time (remaining meat, eggs, fish, dairy products, fruits, veggies, entire grains) and don't stress and anxiety regarding sending some refined products. A few of my favourite processed foods are individually stuffed cheeses, specific flavoured greek yogurts, bitter fruit sauces, jarred tomato sauces, store-bought hummus, entire grain biscuits, as well as whole grain granola bars. Youngsters don't require perfection, they need a nourishing and tasty lunch.
2) The rule of four:
If anything, attempt to pack a minimum of four various nutritious foods in your child's lunch. I attempt to consist of at the very least one protein-rich food (meat, tuna, eggs, hummus and so on), one calcium-rich food (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese or cheese), some fruits and/or veggies and an entire grain/starch. After you've loaded these four basics, you could pick exactly what you'll add as a fun treat as well as perhaps an 'extra' that could be eaten for snack on the way residence from institution, such as an additional piece of fruit.
3) Believe 'easy' and also 'safe' when it concerns lunch packaging:
Although I like bento-box design lunch sets (I find that it triggers me to add great deals of shade and selection and appears a lot more fun for youngsters), any type of well-insulated lunch bag or set will certainly function. If you locate that your bento boxes are creating you much more anxiety compared to not due to the fact that you're misplacing the insertable containers or covers, don't stress over going back to the basics.
Important To Keep in mind: Subject to spoiling food must stay at room temperature level for no more than 2 hrs, so it's essential that chilly foods stay chilly and also warm foods stay warm. Foods must never ever reach the temperature level 'risk area' of in between 4 levels Celsius as well as 60 levels Celsius, because microorganisms could increase swiftly as well as result in food poisoning.
Foods such as milk products, meats, peeled and also reduced fruits and vegetables, mayo, hummus, eggs, as well as leftovers are all feasible breeding premises for germs and must be maintained in an insulated lunch bag with a frozen ice bag till eaten at lunch time. Since ice bag are meant to maintain chilly foods cool (as well as not cool room temperature foods), it's best to pack and cool lunch items in their containers (and also in the lunch bag) the night before to make sure that you can merely throw a cold pack in the following morning.
For hot foods like chili, covered dishes, soup or stew, make certain to utilize a protected container such as a thermos (and maintain different from cold foods). Before keeping food, fill up the container with boiling water, let it represent a couple of minutes, vacant it and after that add the hot food (keep in mind to heat it till piping hot ahead of time). It's essential that the shielded container be kept shut securely till lunch to assist decrease the risk of temperatures dropping into the 'threat area' where bacterial contamination or development could take place. It's essential to clean lunch kits, containers and also ice bag with warm soapy water daily after school so they are clean and prepared for packing as well as to avoid bacteria growth.
4) Give your kids 'structured selection':
Kids are more likely to eat their lunch if they have a say, nevertheless you as the moms and dad need to keep best control over just what your youngster is served (your kid supervises of whether as well as how much she consumes though). This is why I like providing my kids 'organized choice.'
Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, I let my children choose between 2 or three products of my choosing.
For instance, I will provide my son 2 dip options to select his veggies: 'would you like cattle ranch clothing OR hummus to opt for your veggies?' Or I will ask him if he'd like yogurt OR cottage cheese with his fruit for treat. Offering kids open-ended option: 'what would certainly you such as for lunch' places THEM accountable, which results in mayhem and also a separate in the department of obligation of feeding. It can also cause more discerning consuming tendencies, and also can make your life a lot a lot more difficult.
5) Have a go-to list:
Having a checklist of best foods that you can describe when loading lunches (and stocking your refrigerator and kitchen) is vital. This list doesn't should be expensive, but consist of a good selection of nutritious and also simple food options. Here's a listing of Dietitian-approved lunchbox staples, and YMC's allergy blog writer, Alexandria Durrell also produced a great checklist of allergy-friendly lunchbox items to pick from.
6) Take healthy short-cuts:
There's absolutely nothing incorrect with purchasing pre-cut and also washed raw veggies or pre-washed as well as cut boxed salad mixes if it makes your life easier and raises the opportunities of you loading fruits and veggies. Loading some nourishing but refined products such as nitrate-free delicatessens meat, individually wrapped cheeses or yogurts, fruit sauce containers, whole grain cereal in a baggy or entire grain biscuits is totally great. Provide on your own a break, as well as don't worry if your child's lunch isn't picture perfect.
7) Don't stress and anxiety concerning sending out the same thing over and also over once more:
Monotony isn't always a bad point. As long as you're sending out a wonderful variety of nourishing foods in your child's lunch (likewise giving selection throughout the day and week) as well as change things up from time to time to prevent boredom, it's all good. Simply like I like to have oat meal every day for breakfast, it's ok to send out the same turkey, cheese and lettuce sandwich most days in your child's lunch also. Simply send along some vibrant fruits and veggies and a yogurt also!
8) Make things enjoyable in a straightforward means:
Instead of simply sending apple slices, sprinkle cinnamon on them and provide a number of tbsps of vanilla pumpkin dip (pumpkin seed butter combined with vanilla greek yogurt). And also instead of reducing cucumber into disks like you usually do, reduced them into dices or strips rather and also add cattle ranch dressing to dip. Voila-FUN! It doesn't take Pinterest-worthy lunches to make them enjoyable as well as edible. Simple adjustments can flavor things for our kids a lot more than you recognize.
YOU'VE OBTAINED THIS. Delighted packing!!

Silverwing: The Red Thread (7)
OMG im so happy!! This is the first time finishing a fanfic story! I mean theres many in this series lol but writing is hard for me. I had adhd and autism, so for me it can be quite difficult. I'm really proud of this one and i hope y'all like it :D
“So, we’re all in agreement. This is what we’re going to do.” Danny stands with his arms folded in the drawing room of the x mansion.
Me, victor and danny had been discussing about what we were going to do about my pregnancy.
“Absolutely!” Victor stepped up, head held high.
What we had concluded was that we would jointly live for the next 9 months in the apartment danny owned in new york city, all three of us. Which meant that danny and i would be separate from K’un Lun during that time. He was not happy about it, but he still understood and reluctantly accepted the conditions.
Later while Victor was sleeping i slipped into dannys room. He was awake, thinking the same thoughts i was.
How were we going to explain this when we returned home?
As much as we had been getting along better recently, this would be more than a stretch to be believed. There was no way anyone could believe that this was really ours.
“This isnt going to be easy..” I sit down on the edge of the bed in my silk long nightgown, facing away from him.
“I know, but theres not much that can be done about it. Youve made up your mind youre keeping it, so...we just gotta hope everyone believes that its mine. On the plus side though, at least Victor is blonde…” He said, lightheartedly. Typical danny, always seeing the positive in things.
“Yeh.” I gave a small light chuckle in reply. “I just really want this danny. I wanted it a long time ago, but then….things happened and i thought it was all over. But now...now i-i might finally get it. I cant let that go. And i know how much this means to Victor too. This is OUR kid. Mine and his.”
“Sess, you dont need to explain it to me. I know, its okay. I can already see you really want it. So have it. We’ll work out the details later. We’ve got plenty of time to prepare.” He smiles at me warmly.
I touch his hand and thank him. “Okay, so whats got you all pensive then?” I ask, confused. I was certain it was about the pregnancy, but clearly it was something else.
“I was thinking of my future. I mean...you’re married-” “Twice.” “-twice, yeh! And i’m...i dont have anyone. I had misty, but that didnt really work.” He sighs and flops his head back onto the pillow. “I guess i’m feeling lonely. Here you are, expecting. All glowing and happy. And… i guess a part of me wishes i had that.” He looked at me so forlornly. I didnt really know to say. The chances of the right girl coming along and being okay with me being tied to him were slim to none.
“You do. In a way. You have me, in a very unconventional sense. We’re stuck together, which means you’re part of this new family thats being founded as we speak. You’re a part of this dan.” I smirk as i think of my next response. “Someones got to be a good god parent! Get some morals into them! Goodness knows it aint gonna come from me or Vic” I laugh.
He chuckles in response and sighs wearily. “I guess” and gives a small smile.
I know its not quite what he wants, but its the best i can give. Its all i can give.
A thought strikes me, but i quickly ignore it. Can danny be having feelings for me? No, my mind rejects the very notion. He cant!
I start to trudge back to bed, burdened with uncomfortable thoughts.
“Sessa…” he calls me back.
“Yeah?” I turn to face him from the doorway, hesitant about what he might say next.
“What you gonna do about logan?” I sigh with mixed relief. This topic was slightly easier in comparison, which said a lot!
“Nothing. Theres nothing i can do, because of the baby. The only thing i can think of is to help him back to his homeworld, so he can find peace there somehow. Be buried with his family at least. If it gets to that.”
Saying out loud was horrible. I was essentially letting a man die. But i wasnt going to let go of this baby to help him. And nothing else seemed like it was going to work, so sending him back seemed like the best option. Part of me wanted to do that, just so that i didnt have to watch him die, or hear about it.
“Is that all?” Danny was unimpressed, but understood the situation and the circumstances surrounding it. Yet he still found it necessary to ask. As much as we had been getting along better lately, it was still fraught with conflict between us. He still said and did thoughtless things that angered me.
I stamped my foot a little on the bare wood floor and huffed at him. “What do you want me to give him?! A parade?! Yes danny! Thats all!”
He motions for me to calm down. “Its just...i...i feel like...i dont know.”
“Well thats just great! Goodnight!” And then just like that i was out of the door, heading back to my room. I knew how he felt and what he was trying to say. I felt it too. I felt that there must be something to be done. Some fix. Some other answer. And maybe there could be during the next several months. Some secret revealed. Some device discovered. Something that didnt hinge on me!
But there wasnt. And after five months Logan had gotten worse. It wasnt just his healing factor failing him now, his overall health as at an all time critical low. He struggled to move around, and when he did he would soon stop from being breathless.
He understood my decision and accepted it. But standing here, it was hard to witness it.
He laid a shaky hand on my bump and whispered low and hoarsely to me. “If its a boy, make sure you name it James.” and he winks a cheeky smile at me.
I smile and laugh back. “I’ll see what i can do.” I hold both in hands in mine. “I have something for you, just in case.”
We stood below the city of K’un Lun where the jewel of tabentha was kept. Using the machinery used to create portals to realms and dimensions, we managed to find a doorway to his homeworld. It stood there in front of us, blazing a hot mid days sun through it onto us. Sand swept through the portal and landed at our feet.
“Looks like a good day”. He laughs and holds my hands tighter in his.
I say nothing but move my hands to lay on top of his. Nestled in his palm is a small vile of blood and bone marrow. Mine.
He looks down and frowns in confusion.
I bow my head nearer to his, face to face. “Just in case you find a way.”
In the five months i had been trying to help hank and jean find a way to synthesize my unique adapting gene, so it could be used as part of a therapy regime for logan. But unfortunately we had no luck with that avenue.
So this was my last ditch attempt, that maybe he could find something or someone there that could use it to help him.
My last gift. My only gift for him.
Hope.
He cups my cheek and grounds it in his palm roughly. He sniffs deeply, scrunching up his face keeping the tears at bay. His head held high he exhales and walks away into the light.
And like that, he is gone. The portal shuts off and we, me and danny are left alone in the dim light of the temple’s basement. We dont say anything. But he moves to put his arms around me. And i start to cry for the first time in eighty years.
Its strange to think that five months ago i looked at logan and felt nothing. No affection, no connection, nothing but a stranger. An annoyance. But now, i felt like something important had just stepped out of my life. Its funny how life does that sometimes.
But i am comforted in knowing what i felt before he left. Not a man who was afraid of what was to come, but of one who was hopeful what what still might be.

Essential Positive Parenting Skills to Nurture
Tumblr media
Being a parent is no easy task. It’s cumbersome but deeply rewarding at the same time. But positive parenting enables you to navigate the tricky world of parenthood smoothly. As one of the best CBSE schools in Dehradun, we share some valuable tips.
Action, not words
It is true that action speak louder than words. Instead of yelling or constantly nagging to your child about something wrong they’ve done, think about what action you can take to make more impact. If your child habitually rolls up his/her socks while taking them off, then instead of scolding the child, wash only the unrolled ones.
Show them how to do things
It is better to assign your kids some responsibility and tasks that make them feel important and keep them engaged as well. Help them understand how certain things are done. Ask for their advice and opinion while doing some routine task. As adults, we can do the tasks better than the kids but it is necessary to make them feel relevant.
Withdraw from conflict
If your child is being difficult by throwing tantrums or behaving disrespectfully with you, the best way to react is to withdraw from the situation. Don’t react with aggression as that is only going to do more harm. Leave the room quietly and calmly, without any sign of rage or sadness. Tell your child if he wants to try again or talk, you’ll be in the next room.
Separate the deed from the doer
It is important to know that what a child does is not who he/she is. If children are behaving rowdily or impertinently, that’s just their behaviour and not their personality or character. Make sure you kids know this too, that when you are calling them out for their rudeness you are upset with their behaviour and not with who they are. When this distinction is made clear, it protects their self-esteem.
Heritage North Campus, the best school in Dehradun, always strives to give students and parents valuable resources and experiences for wholesome development of children.

Notes on latent magical ability
Just a small bit of info on on latent magic (magical abilities that have generally gone undiscovered by the individual that possesses them). Which is actually extremely rare for people to have magic and not know about it, but it is possible in some cases, generally only in very particular scenarios like if someone of a rare species was separated from their family/culture at an age young enough that they wouldn’t have been taught, etc. Especially in rural areas where blood testing and species recognition isn’t super common  so they could go undetected (at least until it starts causing obvious problems) and etc. Also I ramble a lot about organizations that exist to help people in this situation and how that functions lol ... hbhb
---------------------------------
!! (NOTE: for some bastard reason this ‘read more’ sometimes doesn’t work when viewing the blog in the sidebar and it just shows up as a full long post?? Sorry if it shows up super long for you, I promise there is a ‘read more’ here, and it’s supposed to keep most of the text of the post hidden unless you click on it, but for some reason sometimes it glitches or something and it just shows up on my blog full length. If you’re having this problem just view my blog in a new tab on it’s own or etc. instead of in the sidebar way. Sorry about that, I still have no idea what’s causing this glitch (which only started recently I think) and i don’t know why the read more works on some posts but not others. If you have any info about how to fix it let me know lol hhh) !!
--------------
Most species who posses inherent magical abilities host that as a major part of their culture and their child rearing process, especially given how catastrophic magic can be if the person doesn’t know what they’re doing, so for most cultures it’s seen as absolutely vital to educate children from a young age about any abilities they might have (of course this only applies to inherently magic capable species, since for non-magical species doing magic is something that has to be directly sought out or learned intentionally, unlike people who are simply born with the ability and just have to carefully learn how to utilize it). But, it is possible for individuals to slip through the cracks.
Basically in any scenario where the species or lineage of someone has been unknown, there can be a situation of latent magical abilities being unrecognized.  Especially with the majority of the realm being rural or isolated areas, where blood/genetic testing and knowledge of all different types of species (outside of those the small area frequently interacts with) may be mostly unknown, leading them to be less able to recognize the heritage of a person, or more likely to misidentify it (which is mostly important since your species is generally the primary factor that determines both whether you’re inherently capable of magic or not, and also indicates information about the magic, such as what sorts of magic you’ll be naturally inclined towards, how ‘’strong’’ your base magic will initially be without any training, etc. etc.).
It’s usually also exclusively a problem for children.
Firstly, because if you were around your native culture even to the age of like 3-4 years old, you’d probably at least have some knowledge of whether you’re magical or not or have been exposed to it, since magical education is done fairly young in pretty much any magic capable culture of people. Meaning this usually occurs only for individuals who lost their primary guardians in some way or another as very very young children, and were also under the coincidental circumstance to have been raised far enough away from their native culture or similar cultures that they remain entirely unaware of their background (such as a very young child/baby who’s parents die whilst in the middle of a vacation where they’ve traveled 500 miles away from their home and they’re then left to be raised by the locals, a baby who is separated from their family during a war and then for whatever reason ends up being brought onto a boat that takes them to a place so far away nobody would recognize their species, etc.).
And secondly, because by the time you’re like 8 - 10 years old the latent magic has probably already begun causing increasingly significant problems for you, so it usually can only go unknown about for so long,  something ends up being done about it well before they’re full adults or even teens.
Though there can be the rare case of an adult living their entire life and still being unaware of their magic, it would be incredibly difficult for them to not at least realize that something is different about them. Usually if you’re past childhood,  you’ve either died as a result of fatally misusing untrained magic by accident, or you’ve had someone intervene in your situation already to help train you in controlling it. So though older people can have been latent magic individuals in the past, pretty much anyone with currently undiscovered magic is likely a child.
Due to all these conditions, this rare issue is generally seen most often in orphanages or similar areas, sometimes children’s hospitals, or small towns who have just had an influx of unknown children due to some sort of displacing even occurring nearby.
(It’s also a rare situation to be in since unfortunately many end up killing themselves by accident or being killed by others for crimes they didn’t mean to commit, so many individuals with latent magic also just die before they realize anything about what’s going on with them. Magic done wrong without a level of knowledge and control can be much more deadly than usual magic (which is saying a lot), unintentional self injury and injury to others only get more and more common the older the latent magic user becomes. Especially in an isolated area where magic is not used or understood, nobody is going to believe some random kid who hasn’t been part of the village that long  when they say it’s totally an accident that they burned down a house or killed another child they were playing with, and in more superstitious or harsh cultures they’d just kill the child that’s seemingly brought all these problems with them, if the kid doesn’t accidentally blow themselves up first or something. So like a good 45% - 60% of individuals with latent magic never live  long enough to find out about it anyway.)
 -
Usually latent magic expresses itself during times of stress or excitement, or sometimes randomly, typically through unexpected bursts of disorganized energy, or accidental use of abilities (accidentally lighting something on fire, having a burst of energy break a window next to you without you really understanding how you did it since you didn’t touch it, throwing yourself or someone across the room, etc. Though it can be more specific, such as someone with primarily plant magic skills accidentally growing or affecting the nature around them, or someone with inherent soul magic ability accidentally shifting their soul outside of their body or entering someone’s dreams.. But like 90% of the time any form of magic when entirely untrained is just going to present as nothing but random bursts of pure energy. It’s really unlikely they’d be able to do anything specific, since even the most basic thing like growing a flower or something still requires you to at least know what you’re aiming to do first and the essentials of how to divert that energy in the first place. Which is part of why misunderstood/untrained magic is so much more hazardous in general, since all the energy is so disorganized and undirected.)
Sometimes various physical pains and aches are also present in the latent magic individual, due to the host not really knowing how to control their abilities enough to realize they’re emitting low levels of magic energy directed internally, since they don’t know how to utilize any external expressions. It can be possible they’re “using ” their magic and expelling the energy, but only in unnoticeable bursts around their own body, so this constant exposure can harm their physical form eventually (like mentioned before in other posts about magic that discussed physical pain from magic and the factors that play into how physically harmful magic can be to a person, etc.)
Though,  these small aches would only be present in the case of an innately high energy magics user, like in a species that naturally has a great amount of inherent energy (such as some types of Jhevona or the verrucalt) , since even if you’re accidentally emitting energy around yourself and etc. , if it’s very very low level minuscule bursts then it likely wouldn’t have a long lasting effect on you.  Similar to how common low level internally directed magics  (like hiding your presence in public, or basic single trait shape shifting) rarely ever harm the users, since it’s too little energy to really do much damage. So, for it to be physically harmful,  you’d  have to have pretty strong magical force even in an untrained state as a child.
-
How much trouble this causes will depend a lot on the inherent abilities and “strength” of the species they belong to.  Someone who is some sort of elf with fairly weak magic that has a mild predisposition towards elemental plant magics, may not cause that much issue (lightly injuring themselves or breaking apart trees every once in a while)..
Someone with inclination towards healing magic may heal themselves without even trying to, or more likely, harm themselves,  since if magical energy isn’t tightly controlled it can have unpredictable effects, like aiming healing energy towards an arm intending to heal a bone back together and instead you blow up the arm from the inside out, etc. (why people are notoriously afraid of using internally directed magics, even in minor ways lol. Any time you’re directing the energy at yourself it’s potentially dangerous, regardless of your intention (to heal, to harm, etc.))
Though more difficult magics like soul, illusion, and reality magics rarely ever occur as innate skills in anyone*(1) (and if they do, the species is usually hunted to extinction or in such a situation that they’d never have a stray children from their culture running around anyways, such as the Verrucalt), in those cases it’d probably be the most dangerous latent magic to posses, due to the energy level being so high and also due to the subject matter.  Imagine being like, 5 years old and trapping yourself in an alternate realm/pocket of reality that you don’t know how to get out of which eventually collapses in on itself and kills you but the whole time you just have no idea what’s going on or how you got there, or like, randomly removing your soul from your body by accident, etc..  So whether the magic is unfocused (just random energy being emitted) or focused (actually accidentally performing something specific like growing a plant or conjuring something), it’s awful either way in the case of a latent magic individual with a powerful magic type inclination.
[* side note 1:  And here I mean specifically, being able to use minor forms of the skills without training first, not just having an inclination. Plenty of species do indeed have an innate inclination towards certain types of magic, even difficult ones, that make them easier to grasp and master with less training than usual, or grant ability to access rare skills in that branch of magic that wouldn't normally be accessible. BUT that still doesn't mean they can just use the skills innately without any training whatsoever, an inclination towards a skill doesn't = being able to automatically use said skill. Like the difference between a young child with a species-given natural inclination towards soul magics being able to become much more proficient in them, after training, when compared to outsiders without the same inclination VS. a young child on day one with literally 0 training being able to just pull off a low level feat of soul magic out of nowhere. The former is common, the latter is the one that I mean rarely ever occurs. I just wanted to clarify since the wording may be a bit weird (saying types of magic don't occur as an innate skill very often could be confused for saying people don't have innate inclinations towards magic, which I've mentioned in the past as a thing that does happen, so it may have seemed contradictory lol). ]
  -
Probably the biggest factor in how extensively this could affect someone is the magical literacy of the people they’re around, or their general knowledge of magic within the group. If people know enough to recognize this early and help the person find out their heritage and what sort of magic the’re manifesting and find someone who can train them how to utilize that, then it usually goes quite well. But in the case where like, a magical species child is abandoned and adopted by a non-magical group who knows nothing about the signs or mechanics of magic, and the child just kind of lives in an isolated area never aware of their heritage, that can cause a lot of issues (accidentally hurting self and others, causing unintentional destruction, etc). And like mentioned, usually in this case the child ends up killing themselves accidentally or being killed by the group, or in I guess, still bad but kind of less bad cases, being exiled from their adoptive  home  (or running away on their own, like if they keep killing people and destroying things and don’t know why, they may decide they’re horrible and just cause trouble everywhere they go and decide to leave, even if the people in their home aren’t upset with them, since they feel like they’d be protecting others by isolating themselves,, though this is usually only older children since like a 4 year old probably wouldn’t have the self concept to think about that sort of dilemma lol)
This only increases in danger with age. Magical energy usually gets stronger as a person grows, up until a particular age, which depends entirely on the species. Though it’s an inborn property for the most part, the development of it still varies from species to species.
Some groups have magical energy increasing until around 50 years of age where you’re full strength *(2), for some by the time you’re 10 years old you’re at your peak ability, some magics grow in energy totally dependent on how developed they are (so someone with little pursuit of training may peak around 30, but someone who trained everyday could reach full natural ability at 15).
And in some rarer groups you can even lose use of magic, like where if you haven’t started training it and using it by around age 8 or so, it gradually suppresses and you function basically as a non magical being, unless sometime later in life you’ve realized what’s happened and find an expert to help you work on uncovering your inherent abilities that have been suppressed (however this is like THE most dangerous and unpredictable situation, you’re better off just accepting  non-magicality rather than attempting to access magic that has faded away , since generally  people who are attempting to revitalize old lost magic within themselves have the most unstable magic.  It’s a bad mix of very high stored energy + complete lack of skill (since you’ve never even used it before). It’s like unleashing a large amount of power out of nowhere with no idea how to control it or what effects it could have and etc. etc. This is rare anyway since again, a majority of species don’t work like this at all (the existence of the few groups who have this type of magic that fades without use is one of the major difficulties in modern scholars’ attempts to form a comprehensive understanding  of magic, since it doesn’t follow typical rules of how other species’ magic works lol), but if you are one of those species and you don’t end up honing your magic from a young age and ignore it long enough for it to hide away then its best.. just .. not to mess with it in the future lol)
[* side note 2: Here by ‘full strength’ I mean your full strength of natural abilities,, which is reliant only on inherent power. You can always become stronger than your natural strength through training, up to a point of course (power doesn’t always increase with training, you can’t become infinitely powerful,,, unless of course you’re an ancient demon absorbing the souls of others lmao, but,, through regular and un-complicated means, a person can usually train to increase their inherent abilities maybe up to double or so and then they kind of are just naturally as strong as they possibly could be. Like speaking in video game terms or something (which are not accurate but I keep using them in certain comparisons since it’s just easier to visualize bhbbg):  If your complete maximum natural strength is about 200 points or something. As a child you may have like 50 points, and on your own as you grow without any training at all, it could naturally get up to about 150 - 200 or so.  You could probably train to get it to about 400 points or so, but couldn’t get it much higher than that without resorting to wild, dangerous, or impossibly tedious things. If you’re especially adept you could maybe raise your limit of 200  to 550 - 600 or something but, it would still take years and years and years of constant training (people usually die before reaching their maximum level of strength, their lifespans usually aren’t long enough even if they train all the time), most people don’t feel like doing All That lol.. and after that you’d either just have to be happy with your honestly earned 600 points or start a murder cult or something to begin leeching power from others.  ]
But anyway, generally as someone gets older, their likelihood of harming people or themselves very seriously increases as their power grows (specifics of this depending on how that works in their particular species), so as a child just occasionally levitating or breaking an object around you or bruising your arms with energy, can at  age 18 turn from harmless quirks into like, you accidentally picking up an entire cart full of people and slamming it into the ground, completely disintegrating your own insides ,,or crushing the bones of your loved one by blasting energy at them , etc.
 -
There are even organizations and groups that exist solely to be called for these sorts of people, usually specific off-branches of regular magic task force workers*(3).  If a kid one day randomly blows up their adopted family with a burst of magic, people would obviously take notice and may end up reporting them and etc. etc.  The organizations aren’t usually going to punish them, it’s more about noticing these people  ahead of time so you can get them sorted out and everything before they’re able to cause any sort of damage.  If anything, they exist more to protect the child from punishment, and occasionally have to step in to help them legally (like if a child kills someone with accidental magic in an area where magic isn't well known, the locals will likely be hostile over it and try to punish the kid and harm them or send them to whatever their local version of a prison system is (if the culture has one), so these people would come in and try to educate the locals about magic and argue that the child shouldn't be punished since it's a complete accident etc. (which sometimes the locals still don't listen and then the representative of the organization usually just helps the kid flee or breaks them out of prison in the middle of the night lmao).  If a kid is identified, they don’t arrest them over whatever they did that made them get noticed, these groups pretty much just exist to talk with them and inform their guardians of the situation, set them up with magical training courses so they can hone their magic and not have any more big accidents, connect the child to any resources they may need, etc.
[ side note 3:  There are numerous  groups around the supernatural realm that kind of exist to subdue people with magic that are causing harm, usually just made up of random powerful mages and etc. (they have to be well above average skill level so they can be effective against most magic users they receive calls about and etc., but it’s not like they’re all insanely powerful ancient demons or anything, just groups of fairly strong multi-skilled mages that have a lot of connections and training in communicating with and helping communities.) They’re reasonably common in areas populated by inherently magical species,  but tend to be more of a minor presence considering that if most of the population is magical anyways, they can probably handle magical conflict themselves.  So these groups tend to be the most prevalent in non-magical areas, as groups who can’t use magic and have little knowledge of it are highly susceptible to magic crime, or even just non-malicious yet still unmanageable magic users (like individuals with latent magic) that the community  doesn’t have the resources to handle. But some of these magical task forces or whatever can also specialize entirely in handling cases like these, usually working with children who have latent magic ]
 -
These organizations also serve to protect the latent magic individual from external forces,  since there are certain groups who want to study the nature of magic, and especially doing experiments on people with unknown or latent magic they feel can help fill certain gaps in their research.. Which leads to the occasional shady scientific organizations doing a lot of rounds, posing as fake staff in local orphanages and subtly testing the kids, hoping to take them away and use them in experiments. (since again, this is pretty much exclusive to either orphans or people who were taken away from their families at a young age and adopted into families outside of their common culture, since anyone who is AWARE that their parents can do magic and was raised in a magical culture isn’t going to have this problem, so really the only areas that these scientists target is like, adoption centers, orphanages, occasionally boarding schools that are in areas of war or etc. or are known to take in a lot of lost children.)
This is especially needed if their species is unidentifiable or rare. Similar to how rare species are targeted for stuff like blood harvesting, or other random things, they can also be sought for scientific study, especially studying magic. And just like there are organizations to protect likely targets of the blood trade or groups who are commonly sold for the harvest of souls, there are also people who protect those who would be prime targets for unlawful scientific study (usually rare species that data hasn’t been gathered about, latent magic individuals, other groups with rare or uncommon quirks in their magic usage, etc.). And those organizations kind of intersect a lot with these latent magic task forces (usually the protection groups and the group that are initially called to handle latent magic cases are the same organization, but sometimes they’re separate and just work closely with one another ).
So  additionally, as soon as an individual is identified as someone with latent magic, the organization folks usually get involved in the form of setting them up with protections, privately guarding them in certain areas where big bad sciencey activity is high, background checking their guardians and the workers at whatever facility they’re staying at to make sure that none of them are actually kidnapping scientists in disguise, etc.
--
These organizations also generally focus on getting them training and genetic testing and stuff to better explore their origins and learn about their own magic and how to properly use it.
Many magic scholars and tutors decline to work with people who have latent magical abilities, especially older teens or full adults, since by that point the untamed magic is very very strong yet the user still has completely no grasp of it, so trying to teach them can be deadly if you’re not extremely skilled in defense or deflecting magic, as they could easily posses the power to kill you without any knowledge on how to restrain themselves.
Especially in latent magic users where their species and the type of magic they’re inherently skilled at is entirely unknown (even with species databases and stuff, there are still plenty of unknown groups or groups that are so minor they’d be hard to identify. In like 90% of cases you could probably find out someone’s species with just a little testing, if you  weren’t already able to tell by their physical characteristics, though coming across someone totally unidentifiable can happen) , since like… that has a huge effect on how powerful their magic is , and if you cant estimate what you’ll be dealing with you have no way to know if you can handle it or not.
So, latent magic individuals are already often denied training, but especially if they’re very old or if their species is unknown (or both) it’d be a really hard time trying to find someone willing to work on training them, but the organization would still find a way. Sometimes even just higher ups in the  organization itself can tend to be members of really powerful species or people with a lot of skill, so they may not even need to turn to outside teachers to help the person with their magic. In really rare cases they’ve had to seek out extremely powerful people to train the latent magic individual, like, ancient demons or more commonly, people who are merely attempting to work their way up to the level of ancient demon, just because the person seemed so powerful everyone else was afraid to offer them training lol*(4).
[*side note 4: though this is morally ambiguous since, while magic growth beyond a normal level is still not fully understood, generally if you’re that powerful you probably have done some dubious things…  While you can grow your power over time by collecting millions of tiny micro fragments of souls whilst running a morally fine and legal enchantment shop or something, many of the most powerful people around clearly took shortcuts (just straight up killing people to take their souls or etc.) lol
So sometimes it’s like:
“Well, we really want this latent magic individual to be able to function well and they have to get their magic under control for the sake of their own health and everyone around them… They REALLY desperately need someone who can train them to control their abilities… And none of us can, because from what we’ve seen of this person we’re afraid they could kill any one of us, even the strongest organization members and teachers we’ve reached out to are afraid to try training them due to the risk to their own lives brought by the uncontrollable magic of this person.. so like.. we .. CAN … have this really strong person over here in these isolated mountains train them… But also, should we…. as a moral and helpful organization… leave someone who is officially under our protection… with a person who we’re like.. 70% sure has probably done a lot of uh…. murdering? And crimes?? And is also likely power hungry?? Probably has a big ego, don’t most of them? And what if they’re mean?? You don’t live 3,000 years isolated at the top of a mountain constantly murdering people and harvesting their souls without developing some sort of attitude problem… ....
BUT… it WOULD really help this person and fix all of the issues in their life if they could just have some training.. Really any training… M-maybe we can go with them?? Yeah!  We can..uhh.. send a few agents to go with them into the mountains.. Make sure that really powerful person isn’t like mean to them or anything.. They’ll just stay for maybe a few weeks.. Do the bare minimum training in order for the latent magic individual to be safe to be around and then we’ll get them out of there immediately! ……………. Hmm… What if this person in the mountains….this.. very strong.. likely immoral and murderous individual….  just…. kills all of us upon arrival????… Is it really a good choice to bring them to this person?? …It is our only real option though….  aaaaAAAAAAAAAAA” ]
 -
Anyway, the goal for these groups is usually just to educate and better adjust the person, they usually don’t take them away from their situation or anything*(5). They may leave for training for a little while or be taken like to the nearest blood testing place for help finding their species but, usually the organization only intervenes long enough to ensure the person’s magic has stabilized and their lack of knowledge/control over it no longer poses a threat to themselves and their community, then they’ll leave and usually don’t ever come into contact with the people they help ever again (though they can always be called on again is any new problems arise).
 -
[*Side note 5:  Though of course they’ll remove a child/teen/etc. from their situation if the people (usually two workers, sometimes three if they need to bring a specialist) initially sent to evaluate the case feel that the latent magic individual is unsafe.  There are multiple cases of like, them getting a call from an orphanage about a kid who accidentally hurt themselves or someone else or destroyed property with formerly unknown magic or something and then a few of the agents get there and realize the kid is in an abusive environment or something. They try their best not to displace the person they’re coming to help, but if they arrive and the village is threatening to kill the kid for accidentally burning something, or the parents are hostile, or there’s obvious illegal experimentation plots going on at the local orphanage or etc, sometimes they have to remove the latent magic child from their situation.
Sometimes it becomes even more complicated like, they get to an orphanage to investigate the complaint and upon getting there they realize something is off and try to take the kid out of the situation and despite the owners of the place seeming abusive and careless ONE OF THEM for some ~odd reason~ doesn’t want the kid to be taken away, and then of course this person turns out to be undercover scientist who was only working at the orphanage to scout for latent magic children to use in experiments so now they’re like
“Okay, so first we have to take and protect this kid while not accidentally getting killed by their magic (again, latent magic can be triggered more during periods of stress or excitement so stuff like having an organization show up to help you , even if you’re happy about it, can make you more dangerous), AND we have to deal with this one asshole and somehow explain to the people at the orphanage that their Loyal Staff Member is actually just a spy wanting to kidnap vulnerable kids and they definitely wont believe us because they don’t care, AND that very staff member will probably get violent with us the second they recognize that we know their plan, AND this place is mismanaged and abusive anyways so we ALSO have to report it to the local people who take care of that and try to shut it down, AND if its in a particularly rural area where nobody takes care of that sort of thing then we may have to actually shut the entire orphanage down OURSELVES, which means we have to relocate ALL 135 of the children on our own, on TOP of managing this one child, who again, is dangerous and we need to help them first and foremost, AND the rest of the staff could get violent as well since we already know they abuse children, AND we cant have any more violence around these children…. So maybe we’ve got to..uh….. get them in the middle of the night??? or something???"  And it ends up being like, a massive workload for the mere group of five local agents who traveled to the area just expecting to pick up a single kid and leave lol]
  -
Usually after being informed of their background and being helped in training with managing and adapting to their newly realized magic, the person continues on perfectly fine with their lives with no issue.
The training itself can take anywhere from like, only a few months to years and years depending on the person’s situation, the skill of who’s teaching them, whether they stay with one teacher or have to cycle through multiple due to being stronger than expected or etc , how cooperative they are, etc.  Some kids understandably don’t see the point in this or don’t get what it means that they could hurt someone, they just see it as like “Hey this random group of people are coming in and disturbing my way of life and trying to take me to some people to do some stupid training I don’t care about , I don’t think I have any problem and want to just be left alone.. I don’t even know these people, how do they know whats best for me?” etc. But after coming into contact, the organization can’t just like, let them go, knowing they’re literally potentially a huge danger to themselves and anyone around them, part of their responsibility is to make sure this person doesn’t accidentally kill someone, especially older more powerful latent magic users,,  So sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error until the person actually warms up to them, and lots of finding multiple ways to explain the situation and finally convince the person like “Look, I know you don’t think this is a problem now, but literally if this is left alone , like 4 years from now when you’re stronger you could legit just up and accidentally kill someone and it’s best to help you work on this sooner rather than later” etc. Or bribery.. Bribing people with rewards (especially younger children) to go through training for their magic usually works as well, as a last resort lol.
In some really rare cases,  finding out they are capable of magic or finding out details about their heritage can end up changing things a lot in a person’s life, (like a young teen who already has criminal intentions discovering they can now use magic to do bad things, or Someone discovering their original family is actually elven royalty or etc. so they leave their old life to seek that out, or Someone formerly relentlessly bullied by people in the village now being able to take comfort in knowing that nobody will mess with them anymore because they’re more than capable to kill anyone at whim, etc.),   though 90% of the time it’s simply mundane.
A majority of the time it's just like: - the local magic task force organization gets a report of possible latent magic, - they investigate, - they see the kid and are just like ‘Ah, you seem to be a Yavairi elf, they specialize in plant and elemental magic specifically of this kind , so , that’s what we’ll look out for and help you with. We’ll try to find an elf or demon with similar abilities to tutor you.”, -  the latent magic person is just like “okay cool” and they learn how to control their abilities  and they (and their family or community as well) become a bit more educated about magic, - the person just continues on life as normal except now they know they can like, grow plants faster or something lol.
Many, especially those who were raised in non-magic communities, end up never using their magic at all. They learn the basics of how to harness it so that they don’t accidentally hurt anyone or anything but, after that they never use it for anything, and do things exactly how they used to without any changes or modification over them having magic. Especially if it’s a more obscure type of magic, like some 12 year old in a traditional and strict farming village that is very happy with their lives and the community and their way of life having nothing to do with magic or really anything outside of the village, isn’t going to have any use for it if they find out they’re naturally inclined towards soul magics or something lol. Maybe elemental magic they would use, since that could aid with farming (and even then, probably not if the community has negative views towards magic in general), but they wouldn’t have any reason to pursue learning how to jump bodies or enter people’s minds or absorb souls or anything lol. In a lot of cases, the discovery of latent magic is fairly dull and has little impact on the individual, aside from maybe improving their life a bit since now they’re not accidentally lighting stuff on fire anymore.
  -
So anyway, there’s some random not very well organized info on how undiscovered magic can work.
Usually it's a problem exclusive to children (since by the time you’re older you would have either definitely found out about it by then or probably died somehow), it can make you a target for shady scientists or the wrath of small villages, if you don’t kill yourself accidentally or etc. first you’ll likely just get helped by some of the numerous organizations that exist for this, get trained on how to control your magical energy, and then continue life like usual. In rare cases you may have your orphanage shut down, be sent to untrustworthy mountain demons, or discover you’re secretly royalty, but since latent magic individuals really only exist in isolated non-magical areas (or else this would never be a problem in the first pace), it’s likely you’ll just continue on with little differences other than no longer being considered dangerous.
