What are your favourite themes to write about? Any tropes you have a particular fondness for?

My favourite themes to write about are loss, grief, hopelessness, and all manner of love, I'd say. If anyone's read any of my works, they know I do tend to write some angsty stuff at times. You, of course, know at least of Otillie Pelletier and the backstory I built for her (one of the more tragic ones, admittedly). In my fanfics, usually I pick a specific circumstance or direction for loss and grief to occur. For Wasting Beats In This Heart Of Mine (WBITHOM), it has to do with mourning an old life, and perhaps lives that never were, and people that are not what they used to be. In The Rain (It Rains Every Day), there is the grief of being robbed of choices in life. As for another piece I've just started working on, Love, We Did Our Best, that one is about the loss of something that is simultaneously there and isn't, because part of it is an idea rather than the truth.

And within all of those heavy and complicated feelings, there's love too. I have a weak spot for romance plots, admittedly, because I find them soothing and, in other ways, beautiful. I also think it's important to have that lighter thread tying all those other themes together, but not just in the romantic sense. I like to also explore self-love that characters might not have started with, and the platonic love between friends and then family (and I love a good found family trope too). I like how easily romance can tumble into friendship and some (some) friendships into romance. Also how close extremes in emotion can be (love and hate, for example).

There are many tropes I have a fondness for (I just pointed out found family and hinted at enemies to lovers), but I'd like to highlight ones like getting stuck in a fantasy world or alternate reality (who would have guessed?), reluctant allies to friends to occasionally lovers (they don't necessarily need to be enemies at first, just not particularly liking each other), and student surpassing their master, possibly creating a heated rivalry.
