When Dorcas emerged from the loo a few minutes later, she was fine. Not quite calm, but fine. Whatever “demon” – as Pandora called it – came over her when she tried to break her scotch glass was gone.
As she passed the bar, she realised that a small crowd had gathered. Dorcas stopped abruptly and turned back. There were several terse voices talking over each other, and one was Regulus’s. He didn’t normally participate in confrontations unless Pandora was involved.
“Mind your own, Regulus,” Narcissa snapped, retaining her grip on Marlene’s arm. “This has nothing to do with you.”
Regulus’s response was quiet, but the implied threat sent a chill down Dorcas’s spine. “Cissy, I won’t ask you again. Let her go.”
“No.”
Suddenly, Marlene winced hard and the entire group exploded. Dorcas was shoved aside by Lily when Pandora launched herself at Narcissa with a blood-curling screech. A loud slap echoed through the pub. James appeared from the centre of the throng with one arm tightly wrapped around Regulus’s waist and the other around Marlene’s. Both were loudly protesting their capture and struggling to get free.
“I hope I rearranged her fucking cheekbones!” Regulus growled, flailing at a nonexistent opponent.
James appeared to be fighting back laughter while Marlene cursed him out with what sounded like poorly pronounced, slurred Spanglish. Dorcas pointed at the door and he nodded in silent agreement. As they disappeared, she turned toward the row. Lily held Pandora back by the shoulders, but was struggling to keep hold of her. Narcissa remained on the stool cradling her cheek with both hands. Her eyes were glazed over as she glared at the feisty blonde cursing her entire bloodline.
“Pandora,” Dorcas warned, moving to stand at her side. “Leave it.”
When Pandora glanced up at her, the fire in her eyes flared bright. “I know where to hide a body.”
“Save it. She’s not worth the effort,” Dorcas replied flatly.
Narcissa turned that intense glare on her now and it prickled uncomfortably where it travelled over Dorcas’s skin. When Dorcas didn’t respond, she pressed her lips into a thin line and scowled.
“That’s enough.” Lily circled her girlfriend and pushed her shoulders rather than trying to pull. Her Welsh accent thickened as she ordered, “Now, both of you get out of here before security shows up.”
Pandora reluctantly allowed herself to be pushed away, but pointed at her eyes, then Narcissa’s and mouthed, “I know where you live.”
Dorcas followed her calmly, ignoring the gaze that stabbed her back. She had plenty of practice putting posh girls in their place in boarding school and refused to feed Narcissa’s ego by glancing over shoulder as if she feared retaliation. She’d learned long ago not to feed the trolls.
Once outside, Dorcas was delighted to find James managing the chaos gremlins just fine. He’d flattened Marlene against a wall with his back and held Regulus hostage against his chest. The trio looked ridiculous, but they’d calmed a bit once they were immobilised. Marlene was nearly hidden by his bulky frame, only her hands flailed around his shoulders.
“I underestimated you, James,” Lily said, grinning as she led Pandora toward him.
Regulus wriggled wildly. “Are you alright, Panda? James, let me see her!”
James shrugged and let Regulus loose, clearly unbothered by the entire situation. “I’m used to it. When we were little, Pete or I had to sit on Marls to keep her out of trouble if she was on one.”
“Get off, you giant lump!” Marlene grumbled, shoving helplessly at his shoulders. “If that cunt goes after Dorcas, I swear to—”
Dorcas cleared her throat and cut her off. “I’m fine.”
Marlene stilled, then lifted up onto her tiptoes to peer over James’s shoulder. Her cheeks flushed pink when their eyes met. “Oh, right.”

Y'all do not hype up the marauders era women enough, like teenage girls go the hell through it in a normal life, imagine these women pulling through and fighting in a war and then just being expected to kinda suck it up... Like give my girlies more respect and hype please, cause I see so many fics just about the men and their angst, and I'm like... where's my girlies arguing and being like "You can't go on that mission it's dangerous" and in the same argument mentioning the time that Marlene stole Mary's lip gloss
