My Batfam AU part 6 (pt 1, pt 5)

(Sorry it’s been a minute, life got CRAZY - hope y’all like this next part! 😁)

Tim likes to think he’s pretty good at reading people.

But right now? He has no idea what Jason’s thinking.

And that scares him.

Based on what he knows about the man in front of him, he doesn’t think Jason’s going to start swinging at him or anything but… he doesn’t actually know the man, does he?

Jason doesn’t hurt kids but does he really count?

Is this a test? God he sounds like Bruce, he doesn’t want to be at his level of paranoia but he also wants to be prepared… for well, anything.

Jason died and came back and stalked him and yeah he was nice about it but when he wasn’t making sure Tim was okay he was beating men sometimes literally into the ground.

He wishes he were a kid again, following Batman and Robin on patrol. It was also so much easier then, when his only interaction with his heroes was snapping photos of them from across the skyline.

Now he’s sitting here, waiting for his Robin to make a final judgment… on Tim.

He knows what Jason is capable of…

The man rises to his feet and…

His eyes are glowing green.

At Barbara’s apartment, Bruce almost collapses on the floor next to his oldest son.

Dick he whispers desperately.

He knows it’s not impossible, others have risen from the dead.

But this is not just anymore, this is his son, and if he believes, if he accepts the hope of his boy coming home, and is wrong…

He will break.

He only barely held himself together in the months after Jason’s death.

He knows he messed up with Dick, both before and after Jason. That Tim is the one who not only brought him back from the edge but also back to his oldest.

That he failed Tim too, before being put back together by his youngest, by Tim, his oldest, and Alfred.

He’s been trying, he’s been doing better.

If he allows himself to hope, and they are wrong… he will not survive the set back.

So he ignores the hope that wants to build up in his heart and focuses on what he knows for sure.

We can talk about that later, for now…

For now? Dick whispers, distraught at the idea of doing anything but looking for his brother, now that he knows he’s alive.

For now, we have to focus on Tim. He’s been taken.

Dick shoots himself upright.

Tell me everything you know, now.

Jason stares into Tim’s eyes. He doesn’t blink.

Tim closes his.

The door slams behind Jason.

Tim flinches at the sound.

Then he buries his hand in his knees.

He sits there waiting, for the rest of the night.
