I put "crossdressing" in quotes for Noah because it's like. Sometimes he thinks that's accurate to what he's doing here and uses that term himself and other times he's like "this is just how I dress" and he's a little offended.

He has a funny relationship with gender that I haven't quite parsed and assigned a label to so I've just said Noah has a funny relationship with his gender and if anyone asks he always sighs and goes "pronouns are he/him that's all you have to know" and if you press him he will start talking about gender and "what is a man? What is a woman?" and it's been unleashed and he's not going to stop talking about it even if everyone's left the room and he's alone.

Which sounds an awful lot like he's nonbinary when I say that but for some reason I feel like Noah wouldn't like being labeled as such even though I think it's true. I just think he dislikes labeling his gender, or perhaps the implied obligation to label himself as "other" just because he doesn't fit a preconceived notion of what a man is, and he'd rather hold people hostage to start talking in circles about gender which is what I think it's all really about.

But also his gender is certainly fundamentally queer, and yet genderqueer doesn't feel like the right term even though it's a term I love. And also he's firmly gay and I think that adds to him being funny about labeling himself because a part of him does certainly believe in gender when it comes to that and while "gay man who's only really a 'man' for gay sex purposes but otherwise meh" is certainly a thing it also doesn't quite encapsulate what Noah's deal is. But also sometimes that does feel like enough to him.

Noah is also fairly masculine leaning despite the dresses and the makeup and wouldn't really be mistaken for a woman (has a goatee, which is important to his gender expression), so I think he's sometimes like "aren't I basically a man?" and thus can't call himself something else, which is fundamentally false and he knows that intellectually but that's part of the soup that is his gender that's still marinating because he is a young man after all.

Ok, another headcanon for y’all. I just watched little women (the best one with Winona Ryder) and I’m thinking that Jo isn’t a lesbian. Now hear me out, I know a lot of people think that. But I don’t believe that because she is a tomboy that she likes girls. My personal headcanon is that she is Aroace. Her relationship with the professor feels off almost and she makes comments throughly about not wanting marriage or love. She turns down Laurie because she doesn’t feel they would match but longs to stay friends with him. I also believe that she might be agender/nonbinary. She always compares herself to the men around her and wishes to have the station and dress of a man, but cries when she sells her hair. I feel she is without a standing gender she just is.

Then again, this could all be the foolish ramblings of an agender Aroace, reaching in the far corners of fiction for a glimpse of representation that feels accurate to my lived experience.

“So the Alliance drops you off here, you fix all this comms shit and they eventually come get you to loan you out to some other C-O?” Sloane asked, thumbing through the papers Ryder had handed her, leaning up against a sandy mako to get the only shade this place would offer in the early afternoon.

“Pretty much,” they confirmed. “And the civvy bridge. And probably at least half a dozen of these gators—you know all terrain doesn’t mean let sand just sit in the fucking engine, right?”

Sloane chuckled, finally letting the clipboard drop and looking over at Ryder against the sun. “Alright, I’m game, no idea how you got past all the Alliance bureaucracy to get that broad an assignment, but I’ve seen you fix enough shit with the crap you could find in your back pocket I’m really not worried about signing off.”

Ryder shrugged “I have a masters in mechanical engineering, I guess that made the brass happy.”

“You have a masters in mechanical engineering? I thought you said you had a masters in electrical engineering?”

“Well, yeah. I did mechanical after electrical, between the xeno-archeology and that paper on the socio-chemical biogenic ramifications of growing up in a place as diverse as the Citadel.”

Sloane eyed Ryder for a good 5 minutes, trying to figure out if they were shitting her. “You realize you’re 19, right? When in the hell did you do have all that?”

“Well, I finished all the mandated stuff my the time I was like 10 and by the time I had to take time off for my surgery I’d already done pretty much every advanced placement course they offered.

“I was going to just graduate early, but in the month I was out recovering from everything, Scott managed to get suspended 18 times and rack up like 10 thousand credits in property damage. My dad knew I wasn’t going to leave Scott on his own after that, so he figured out some deal with different professors to let me work towards actual degrees from the high school.”

“And the bridge?”

“It’s not a big bridge, Sloane, you don’t need a degree in civil engineering for the Alliance to let you fill gaps on a bridge that barely passes over a ditch.”

“Wise ass.”

So my partner’s nonbinary and they’ve been playing Harvestella, and they commented to me last night how affirming it was for them to be able to be referred to with they/them pronouns while playing. Like every time someone referenced their character my partner would just look so happy.

It made me think about Veil Guard and the backlash in some corners of the internet for the ability to use gender neutral pronouns for Rook and to give Rook top surgery scars and claiming it’s forcing woke shit, and like. It’s not though? It’s not like Rook’s storyline centers on their gender. Hell, aside from their pronouns and potentially their appearance, I’d be shocked if Rook’s gender impacts any part of the game or story at all.

And it also reminded me of mass effect andromeda and Hainly Abrams, a trans woman on Eos. Initially BioWare did phone in her trans-ness (she volunteered her dead name right away despite Ryder being a stranger) and seemed very much like token-trans-DEI bs that the people who are mad about veil guard are rambling about now. And you know what? That made the trans community mad too because it was shitty representation. Like no one wants diverse characters whose ‘diversity’ is clearly the only reason they’re there/the defining feature of their personality or story. Like dear god, do you know how sick some queer people, myself included, are of queer stories focusing on coming out or homophobia? Like. Yes, it impacts our experience but Christ it’s not like it’s the entirety of it.

Anyway, all this to say is that companies sometimes do try to pander to the ‘woke agenda’ or whatever bullshit, but the community they’re trying to pander to also hates the ‘token minority’ treatment. Having a player character that can reflect your identity and appearance is not pandering. It isn’t taking away from anyone’s game experience, it’s just giving people the opportunity to feel welcome in the world they’re exploring. It also makes it way easier to stay immersed in that world and enjoy it.

Also- some of these fuckers have never been forced to play as someone who doesn’t match their gender and it shows. It is so normal to have video games where the only option is to play as a man that I hardly notice it anymore until I play a game where I have the option to play as a woman and am delighted. And here these idiots are throwing a tantrum because people have the option to be trans or nonbinary.

Pride Month 2024

I know it’s been a while and I’ve been very quiet on social platforms… there’s a lot going on right now but I hope things get better soon.

As you know the comic “TotH” is currently on hiatus until June 23rd. And you guys have been tremendously patient so far! So, I was hoping that you could hold on a little longer as I’d like to extend the hiatus until June 30th, meaning the next page would then follow on July 1st.

The reason for that is that I’ve got my last big final on June 17th. I’ve had 4 finals so far which have been wrecking me mentally and physically. Plus, my body decided to develop a bacterial pneumonia (which, thankfully, is almost fully healed and gone) before the big finals even started. Timing, am I right? Anyways, I went to see the doctors and prescribed antibiotics which helped quickly.

I really hope you guys can stay a little more patient with me and meanwhile enjoy the occasional picture I upload to try and get back into drawing…

As for the people on this pic here…

I think most of them are self-explanatory.

But you may have noticed that my orientation has changed a bit. This is due to me finally figuring out what it is (more or less).

I always believed that I was pansexual, meaning finding an attraction to people of any gender or to people regardless of their gender. But that didn’t quite feel right and so I started to intensely question my orientation, even tending to be “only” bisexual for a while.

So now, I know this is all going to sound absolutely crazy, but… I’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 for a while and that game helped me realize what my actual sexual orientation might be. I came to find the term “panromantic demisexual” and did a little bit of research. Someone who is panromantic and demisexual has the potential to feel romantic attraction to people of any gender, but they only feel sexual attraction to people with whom they have a significant emotional bond. And that description felt right (for the first time). Although not a 100% sure, this one actually may describe my orientation best for the time being. And I think that’s okay? ♥
