a survival story and a love story. a story of despair and hope.

hunted hybrids au [hhau] is a scarian au that i share with @linkito - it’s self indulgent and rp-born, although there might be some drabbles and ficlets coming out of it (because we’re obsessed). 

the basic premise is that scar and grian got transported to and stuck in a permadeath world that’s actively cruel and dangerous to hybrids. the nature itself is set against them, providing next to no resources, and the weather keeps getting colder and colder. 

as an avian and a vex, they get relentlessly hunted—and getting caught means death. as they struggle to stay alive, they only have each other left. (desperately, they wish it could be enough.) 

they have no idea what happened to hermitcraft, or if their other friends are even alive, but they barely have time to think about that amidst the cold and the hunger, the fear and the pain. days stretch into months, and their hope of ever returning anywhere akin to home dwindles. (but maybe they can put together a different makeshift hope: a feeble little thought of maybe one day managing to get far away enough that nobody will follow anymore; maybe one day they could make a new home, or the closest thing to it they can manage. maybe this nightmare can have an end, if only they hold onto each other and keep going.)

Hey did you know one of my favorite people was born today?! It's @ramblingoak's birthday and it feels very fitting to me that she gets the first mixtape: volume two (you can find vol. 1 here)! As per usual, I have compiled a list of some of my favorite fics to celebrate Oak Day.

Where to even begin with Oakie? Well you'd be hard-pressed to find a more supportive person in this entire fandom. She's an incredible friend who always ALWAYS has a kind word to add in the tags and/or a sexy photo of papa to brighten your day when you need it most. If that weren't enough, Oak is a truly wonderful writer. I dare you to find a collection of works that feel more cinematic. I reread her writing whenever I need to feel something™—which is to say: often.

Weekly WIP Update

Just finished the draft for chapter 2 of Saltwater Symphony, so I think you can all expect an update (and a certain selkie to enter the stage) some time next week. 👀

On to more King's Gift soon, where our boys have to deal with the aftermath of the Horrors(TM) from the last chapter. And maybe kiss about it, we'll see. ❤️

The full moon is almost at its zenith by the time Eddie reaches the crossroad outside the village. It's only a few more days until the solstice, and even though there's no wind, the air has that unforgiving bite to it that comes with clear, starry winter nights like this. His toes are aching in his threadbare boots - that dull, throbbing pain that means they're going to go numb soon. He grits his teeth and ignores them, stiff fingers fumbling in his bag for the supplies he brought. 

He didn't account for how difficult it would be, etching the runes into the cold ground. The earth and mud are frozen solid, covered in a thin sheen of glittering ice. He casts his stick aside after the first futile attempt, opting to use his dagger instead, and even so, it's agonizingly slow work. Eddie swears under his breath, casting nervous glances at the moon overhead. The witching hour will be over soon, and he can't afford to wait another month. By the time his circle is complete, his neck and forehead are drenched in sweat and his breath fogs around him in thick, puffy clouds. He doesn’t waste any time, scrambling up and standing by the side of the circle. His hands are so numb he hardly feels the pain of the blade slicing through his palm. He waits impatiently for the blood to well up, then holds his hand out over the circle. 

“What are you doing?” 

Eddie yelps and whirls. The precious red droplets burst outside the circle. 

There's a boy standing behind him, watching him with curious eyes. He must've come from the direction of the village, even though Eddie is sure he's never seen him around. He'd remember if he had.

Thank you 😊 Yes, we can delve into her self-imposed punishment as a consequence of her actions. This runs on a little so you get a one shot more than a ficlet/drabble! Sorry!

You jump up from the sofa when Cillian's car pulls into the driveway, and speed walk through to the front door. It's cold and wet as the rain pours down when you drag the front door open. You watch Cillian and Clíodhna getting out of the car and try to determine whether Cillian is angry or has softened by the looks of his face, illuminated by the sensor light that floods the drive. But you can't work him out, and it's harder still to read him as the two of them pause their walk - Cillian's arm around Clíodhna's back to prevent her drunken stumbles from landing her flat on her face - when Clíodhna belches loudly and bends at the waist, dropping blue-coloured vomit at her feet and over the gravel. While his left arm is still somewhat holding her up, you watch him rub his right hand across her back as she retches again. You're seething with anger, ready to give the fifteen year old who thinks she's a law unto herself a dressing down, but you suspect your lecture will have to be held back until the morning.

Even over the sound of the wind and rain, you can hear Clíodhna sob as she awkwardly straightens back up. She leans into Cillian's side as he continues to walk her into the house. You step back from the door as they come through, and flare your nostrils at the state of your daughter now that you can see her clearly. Cillian's wet hair clings to his angrily furrowed forehead, and Clíodhna blinks at you with heavy lidded eyes whilst still being held up by her father. You shut the front door and turn the key in the lock. When you turn back around to them, Cillian had walked her over to the stairs and sat her down onto the second to last step. Leaving her leaning her head against the banister, he turns to look at you whilst dragging off his sodden coat.

"He kept Sean in." He says, and there's a gruffness to his voice that gives away his anger. "Absolutely locked - some vodka bullshit, and she was found fucking around the city, with that wee bollocks, on the back of a fucking motorbike." He says. He takes a deep breath and huffs it out through his nose. "Sure, it's only fucking nepotism that's stopped her being kept back there. And only it was Jim working...," he trails off, shaking his head. "She's done nothing but vomit the whole way home - well, that and sob at me. She's gonna be dying come the morning."

"If she sees the morning!" You shake your head. "I could ring her bloody neck!"

Cillian holds out his hand towards you. "Jim made a good point - the fucking hangover she's gonna have is a fair punishment for her."

You raise your eyebrows, "If you think I'm letting her away with this, Cillian, then you don't know me that well."

He shakes his head, "I'm not saying we don't punish her - of course we do. But I'm saying she's going to be dying, and I'm saying she should be made to rot in it. Consequences of her fucking actions."

"How sick has she been?" You ask him, peering around him to look at her in her drunken half-sleep on the stairs.

"That bit outside there was the smallest offering." He says crudely. "I'll put her up to bed - I'll put a towel up under her head, put her on her side, and there's a wee bin in her room." He lays out his plan. "I'll sit in there for a wee while, but I'm thinking she's heading for the dry heaving and praying to God for forgiveness stage." He smirks.

"Don't sit up there petting her and offering your sympathies." You say as he crouches down in front of her just enough to begin easing her to her feet.

"Clíodhna," he calls sternly as he starts drawing her to her feet by her arms. "Leanbh, c'mon now, get your legs in gear up these stairs. Clíodhna," he raises his voice slightly. "You've to get into your bed, c'mon now, don't be messing. Move your legs, leanbh." It becomes clear quickly that she's beyond reaching, and you join him at the bottom of the stairs to work together in carrying her like flat pack furniture up the stairs and to her bedroom.

As Cillian makes her bed vomit proof and sets about ensuring things are covered and water accessible, you strip her with as much dignity as is possible in her state, while Cillian's back is turned, and throw an oversized nightshirt onto her to keep her modesty. While she's barely awake at all, she does respond to your actions by pushing her arms into the shirt, and lets you push her down without being combative to lay down on her bed. She whines as her head rests onto the towel covered pillow, and screws up her face.

"Dad..." She mutters. Her cheeks puff up as she gags forcefully but, as Cillian had preempted, she doesn't vomit. She whines again. "...Daddy..."

"Go to sleep, leanbh." He says, his voice is husky, "We'll talk tomorrow."

When tomorrow arrives, it's with neither you nor Cillian having slept more than a few fifteen minute bursts. Cillian's in a foul mood, and your body hurts from being reclined in a chair beside her bed for the night. She had spent the night continuing to heave and moan, and by six am the almighty headache had kicked in with force. Each mouthful of water you or Cillian offered her to try and mitigate her dehydration headache was vomited back and perpetuated the issue. No pain relief was staying down, either, and you'd moved on to mixing sugar into her water as a means to try anything to help her. Between six am and ten am, Clíodhna alternates between whining about her headache, proclaiming she has a migraine and needs help, and sleeping in small bursts. Cillian takes a shower during one of her small bursts of sleeping and, when he returns looking even grumpier than before it, it coincides with her waking up and vomiting the three mouthfuls of water you'd managed to get into her just prior to her nodding off.

"At what point is it less likely to be just a hangover and more likely to be alcohol poisoning?" Cillian asks, drawing away the vomity-water decorated bin. He sets it down at her bedside.

"It's a hangover," you tell him - not that you're not concerned that she's so unwell with it. "But...if she can't keep water down still, later on, then maybe it'd be a good idea getting her rehydrated at the emergency centre."

He nods his agreement with your suggestion and sits down at the end of the bed by Clíodhna's feet. He reaches his left hand out and pats his palm against her bare legs. Clíodhna looks at him with heavy eyes, under set by heavy black bags and a fiercely pale face that is practically green at this point. She looks corpse-like, and you can see that despite his anger it is breaking his heart to see her suffer.

Clíodhna pushes out her bottom lip like a toddler and moans sadly. "I feel really poorly, Dad."

Cillian nods his head. "That'll be the vodka, leanbh." He speaks gently.

Clíodhna closes her eyes tightly and sobs. "I'm really sorry..." Her lip continues to protrude. Cillian glances at you briefly.

"We know you are." You say, and you surprise yourself that you're softer with your reply than you thought you'd be.

"My head hurts so bad...and I feel sick...and my tummy hurts..." She says pitifully with her eyes fixed on Cillian. She sniffles and screws her eyes closed again.

"You've a hangover, leanbh. It feels like dying, and you'll regret every drop you drank last night, but you'll feel better eventually." Cillian says, smoothing his hand along her leg. He draws back his hand. "Keep drinking that water, even if you're sick, because you'll not feel better if you don't."

"I'm so sorry, Dad. I promise...I won't do it...again." she moans, paused as she gags without a follow up, and winces as her head seems to ache her as she moves. "I swear. I won't drink again."

Cillian gets to his feet, and actually cracks a smile. "Yes you will." He shakes his head. He looks at his daughter a moment before turning to you. "I have a meeting in an hour - call me if she's no better, otherwise...good luck."

None of them are finished but they’re just little drabbles of my Tav for the most part

I don’t game very much so I haven’t even finished my first play through but they’re a silly lil conniving bard and I love them. Most of the ficlets are snippets from battles, scenery I thought was cool, and a couple of funny party interactions, mostly with Gale or Wyll. (Side note, wyll my beloved he’s the best)

I’ve seen the movie three times already, so even though the tickets say the movie starts at 6, it’s actually going to start at 6:14, and lights will go down for previews at 5:55. We’re going to enter the theater at 5:54 — question?”

“What if I want popcorn?” Jason asks, lowering his hand back down into his lap. 

Tim scoffs and rolls his eyes, turning his attention back to the map of the theater. “I’m not answering that—”

“—We’re going to sit through a two hour movie that you’ve already seen three times, I want snacks.”

Tim’s lips press into a thin line as he glares at Jason. 

Jason raises an eyebrow at him, and the standoff continues as Tim assesses his opponent.

The air between them is so tense, it’s sort of surprising that a tumbleweed doesn’t blow right through the nest. 

Tim breaks first, with a sigh and a roll of his eyes. “Fine, after a cost-benefit analysis in which the cost is adding time to buy snacks and the benefit is you not intentionally sabotaging our mission, I have determined it is in my best interest to add time for us to buy snacks.”

“The cost is also the actual snacks, you know,” Jason adds. 

Tim very graciously decides not to throw his laser pointer at him. 

“Focus up, Jason, this is a mission.”

Can you explain the timeline of How We Break please 🥺

omg hi!! it's been so long since i got to talk about hwb!! it was my first ever series and most comprehensive work and im so so thankful and glad that it's still receiving traction till now <33

the main series consists of three chronological parts which diverge from canon lore (like i genuinely said 'no thanks' to canon and then ran with my little lore)

part one - mamaguro (she was unnamed throughout hwb) returns. i never really expounded on why she left or why did she return, just that she did, and that led to toji breaking up with the reader. it was meant to be a short drabble that was why there was nothing established but i didnt expect it to receive sm love :'>

part two - reader moves in with their friend for a while after the break up. there's a little time skip before reader gets a call from toji wanting to meet up. in that meet up toji apologized (callously at first), reader gets to have a final moment with megumi (reader practically became his mom), and gojo popped up as a hinted new love interest

part three - this exists as a slow progression of time crawling by and a build up of time skips. it's bite-sized scenarios strung together, all of which existed based off of interaction with my readers! which is why it feels very choppy and disjointed. but basically: everyone's moving on. toji internalizes what happens, and mamaguro is guilty but because of this, they grow closer. gojo and reader are friends but gojo is in love with reader; it takes them literal years before they get together. toji proposed to mamaguro again. wedding scene of gojo and reader :D

there's a bunch of what-if's snippets (or literal fics bc i didn't know how to stop rambling) about certain scenarios but they didn't affect the pt 01 and 02, while some of them heavily influenced pt 03! my favourite would probably be the aiko story which is reader and toji having a son - i liked it too much that i developed the aiko story through multiple ficlets HSHAHSH

idk if this was any help at all or if this just made hwb messier in ur perspective HJHHH but thank u still for reaching out. it means so much to me how hwb is still being read, and even reread, so i get too giddy when talking about it hheheh

1. How many works do you have on AO3? - 321

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

1,322,068 words (at the moment)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Still writing for The Flash, but every once in a while a new show/movie grabs my fancy and I write a few fics for that.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

An unimpressive bunch but here goes: Muse (456), Replacement Scrunchie (393), Fallen Star (357), Inconvenient Inspiration (343), and Drabbles (277). Muse is a handful of one-shots based solely off spoilers before I saw the eps they were for. Replacement Scrunchie is my sole fic for the TATBILB fandom about Peter & LJ's first date (which was way less impressive than what the sequel movie gave us, WOW). Fallen Star is my most popular westallen fic to date, so that one's actually not too surprising. But both Inconvenient Inspiration and Drabbles are requested (the latter) and spontaneous (the former) brainstorming ficlets and snippets for The Flash/WA. Bo-ring.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Eventually.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh, gosh, I have so many unfinished fics that it's hard to remember the complete ones that I finished that didn't end so happy, of which there aren't many. Maybe...Breaking Point though.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All the others have happy endings. Go read them. Lol.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

When I wrote for another fandom I did, but not really in The Flash fandom, which is nice.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yep. And uh...descriptive, I guess? I'm def not the best out there, but I do my best and for the most part smut-lovers seem to enjoy.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I've attempted a couple crossovers, but I haven't completed any or gotten far with them, usually because there wasn't an audience for it.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yeah, I discovered a whole bunch on another website years ago.

Nope.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Stuck on Westallen atm, but I used to write Chair, and I was highly obsessed with them as well.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oh god, I have SO MANY WIPs. One that I really want to finish but fear I won't though has got to be He's MY Barry Allen. I'm just stuck on what the next chapter will look like, and as of yet no one has come forward with a solution. Lol. The Problem is Tony Woodward is another one like that.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'd like to think I can hook people into my fics fairly well and drop enough cliffies to keep them coming back for more. But ofc the smut helps too. Most of my fics include at least some smut, even a single scene.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Sometimes I have trouble making a chapter (or a scene for that matter) all that long. I've seen people write like 10k+ for a chap, and unless I'm crazy inspired, roughly 1-3k is what you're getting.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I actually dabbled in this a little bit for a westallen fic where Iris was learning Italian, I think? I did some research and managed to sift in enough for that one-shot, but I can't imagine I'd do it repeatedly or for a multi-chap.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I believe it was the STAR WARS prequels, but it might've been The Day After Tomorrow.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

It's unfinished, but there's so much untapped potential in my Flashpoint fic. Lots of world-building that's present as it rides the line between canon divergent and AU. Hopefully one day I'll get back to it.

I honestly think you’re one of the most interesting writers on this platform and currently, you’re the only one whose blog I am interested it and regularly check up on.

You are such a phenomenally awesome writer. Because I adore your writing, I ended up reading your one-shot for ‘The Elusive Samurai’, even though I haven’t read the manga or watched the anime.

I really, really enjoyed it. I still remember it in my mind and if asked, I would be able to talk about it still! In my mind, it feels very cinematic. I was fully engrossed in your capturing of their world!

I honestly feel like your attention to detail and your effort to remain historically accurate mixed in with your natural talent for choosing some of the most visually evocative and linguistically stunning imagery makes you an extremely compelling writer. I really enjoy reading all your works, regardless of whether I’ve seen the source material or not.

Because you are such a talented writer, I am not sure what to request! The way you write both Kokushibo and Douma is brilliant. I won’t lie — I really adore the way in which you write Kokushibo and I think you write him so well that you almost do him more justice than the source material. But your Douma is also so phenomenally in character!

I haven’t read your Muzan, but with how well you tackle literally every single character from ‘Demon Slayer’, I’m sure you’d be able to do him justice.

I remember reading a while ago your thoughts on Kimetsu Academy, so I feel like it’d be fun to request a modern set fic with either Kokushibo or Muzan.

But the thing is, your attention to historical accuracy is so phenomenal that I’m really tempted to request a historical fic. I honestly think that out of every fan fic I’ve ever read, you’re the only one who writes like a novelist and not a fan fic writer. That is to say, you put in so much effort into historical accuracy that you almost transform yourself into a historian and I really admire that.

You have the ability to be able to write imagery well, to be able to plot well, to have the imagination to come up with creative plots, and to have the capacity and determination to remain as historically accurate as possible.

I’m honestly really impressed by your writing abilities. Seeing your writing really makes me smile and reading your accompanying little ficlets for ‘Notte Stellata’ became the sole reason why I’m still even checking Tumblr. Your writing honestly makes my day and I get really excited whenever I see that you decided to write a little extract or a snippet or a fic.

It means a lot to me that the setting of my story, the objects I reference, and even the characters' speech are true to the cultural mores of that time period — even if its a series like The Elusive Samurai which has a very playful, modern sense of humour. I do think staying true to the historical setting helps with establishing the atmosphere of the story — and with that comes with the respective imagery that I wish to evoke. Of course, being a history nerd myself, I don't mind doing a little bit of research :D

And well noted also on your request! I have gotten a few on a modern AU, and I'm deciding between the Kimetsu Gakuen AU or something completely different; we'll cross the bridge when it gets there, as they say!
