Broke: Acknowledging that a character who is an objectively terrible person is also a complex and intentionally well thought out individual with different levels of nuance you can empathize with in some ways while not in others is immediately “woobifying” or “poor little meow meowifying” them.
Woke: “This character is a bad person” and “this character is still a person” are two statements that can, should and do coexist and admitting that they exhibit nuance and depth and are more than just their bad actions doesn’t immediately excuse or condone their bad actions or mean that you’re ignoring or trying to soften the canonical version of the character.
Bespoke: That’s the whole point, that’s always been the point, to be made to empathize with horrible people so you can understand that they can be anyone, that bad people can be likeable, can be interesting, can be human, are human, and it’s scary to think about all the ways they’re just like you and all the ways they’re just like everything you hate, forcing the use of critical skills in media analysis, forcing a confrontation of the duality of man.
Whatever Level is Above Bespoke: But sometimes, yeah, sure, maybe they are a poor little meow meow, what are you gonna do, get a lawyer

Gojo is lonely. Not just in the big, existential sense.
He doesn’t have anyone to tell about his day. He doesn’t have anyone to go try out that new restaurant with. He has so many movies because he has no one to talk to.

I think Gwen calling Miles parents by their first names really show the difference between white and black culture.
Tumblr media
Gwendy girl I love you but get your shoes off the bed. Have you lost your goddamn mind
Idk if it's just me, but in a lot of wider (white) culture the idea is that a host must cater to the guest, making sure the place is inviting and the guest is taken care of. It's the hosts responsibly look after their guests
However in a lot of POC cultures, it's the inverse. To us, Guests must cater to the host, because we understand it firstly as their space.
In our culture, we as guests are there as visitors. And it is on us to act appropriate towards the host. Rather than the host acting appropriate to us.
When we walk into a house, we talk off our shoes.
When she comes over she sits cross-legged on Miles bed with her shoes on.
When we enter someones house or space as black kids we're told to go to the adult of the house and introduce yourself, shake their hand.
When Gwen comes to the cookout, Miles parents have to approach her first and ask who she is. And then she calls them their first names!!!!!
We're even told that as guests we have to ask to get water or open the fridge - or the host can get it for us for their privacy.
Gwen comes in and rips open one of Miles' collectables and don't even think about it after.
And Miles is SHOCKED because he's probably never had a friend act like that in his house before.
As POC we see ourselves as guests given the privilege of being in the space. Whereas general culture sees guests as someone to invite in, and that the guests experience - not the hosts' space - is the primary focus
Gwen is probably acting that way because in her culture the idea is that "Oh - I'm at a friend's house. Let me get comfortable."
Whereas for a lot of us its "Oh - I'm at a friend's house and I want their parents to like me enough to let me in their house again lol"
Idk I just found that interesting

It's a Match!
Being the King of the Infinite Realms didn't really give you many dating options. There were no candidates who weren't committed or completely sincere, and Danny was feeling sensitive those days so he was frustrated. The Observants telling him to get a partner to create a "better future" and offering horrible options was especially infuriating those days, he wished they would stop meddling in his life.
Sam and Tucker, seeing the halfa's frustration did what any friend would do in such a situation: They created a profile for him on a dating app. Although they didn't notice that when they connected it to Technus' Internet the app started taking "candidates" from other dimensions that had it.
Despite not trusting it much at first, Danny eventually embraced the idea and very quickly connected with "Jason Todd" who claimed to be a zombie. Danny thought it was funny and told him he was a ghost, which Jay obviously didn't believe. Ironically, they matched because of the "I died" jokes on their profiles.
The only problem was when Jason asked to meet (he was absolutely convinced that Danny was either homeless or living on the streets due to his refusal to send pictures from home and wanted to feed him) and Danny didn't know how to tell him that he didn't know what dimension he was in.

Prompt 262
Pondering Ghosts are Dragons, and just rotating each design in my head I have for them. That is the ghosts we see in the show more than just once or twice lol. Just pondering each of them and potential types and descriptions and how the people of Amity see them, as they’re used to the dragons around, vs say someone from Outside, crossover or no, who are Not used to the maybe slightly eldritch undeath interdimensional dragons around everywhere.
That is not normal for other people.
To the Amity Parkers? Boxy is simply a chonky dragon with small boxy wings and covered in blue scales. To people just coming into the city, it’s like seeing a giant komodo dragon when you’re just walking home- not something you exactly want to see and something that is dangerous.
Kitty’s and Johnny’s weekly relationship tussle? Par for the course really. But to visitors? Two giant wyverns tearing into each other, shimmering greens that could be scales, could be tendrils, and shadows lengthening and thrashing like a living beast all its own.
And this is just the small dragonlings, not even beginning with larger ones like Pandora and Fright Knight, chill as they may be.
Outsiders don’t understand that they’re more than just animals. Amity is used to this, but people who have no clue what’s going on? They don’t.
They call the police, the heroes, the government, for help, for answers. And that? That the GIW can use.

one thing i havent seen anyone talking about when discussing isaac is when he meets james at the bookstore and they talk abt how isaac doesnt reciprocate james' feelings. and although james has the best intentions he tells isaac that (more or less) isaac just hasnt found the right person yet. and yeah isaac doesnt have the words or terminology at that point to express how he feels being aroace but it was still such a gut punch to see an example of someone who cares for you, even someone in the queer community, still negate your orientation using a phrase that is meant to be an assurance and yet is still what so many ace and aro people have been told

Ya know, everyone talks shit about Fairytail because it does rely heavily on “the power of friendship” and I get if that’s not your thing or feels too childish for you but
Can we acknowledge how dark it all is? Loke/Leo is suicidal in the beginning, Lucy comes from an abusive father and dead mother, Gray is an orphan And his step in mother figure died to save him after he made a bad choice, Erza was an orphan and a Literal Slave as a child with a bunch of other children and her childhood love got possessed and continued her abuser’s work. We all know the shit with Natsu and the dragon slayers.
That’s not even going into the Mirajane/Elfman/Lisanna backstory, or the story of any other characters like Juvia and Happy and Charla and Zeref and such. Like holy shit? This show is so so dark and everyone looks over all the trauma and dark themes because there’s the whole power of friendship thing, which was weaved into the show to actually mean something and not just there for shits and giggles.
All this to say, you can dislike the show, hate it even, but don’t just judge it for the light hearted outer shell it has, because inside is dark and dense and Meaningful
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

I was having thoughts about yellowjackets and taissa, specifically her relationship with jackie, and how the jackie-shauna-tai triangle was mostly projection on jackie's part (and within the fandom), in my humble opinion. I'll even go as far as to say taissa was more respectful of jackie than shauna (and the other girls) ever were in the wilderness.
I mean obviously we can't deny that tai didn't respect jackie's status as team captain at the beginning of s1 with what happened to allie, but I wanna talk about what happened in the few eps before jackie's death.
First of all we have tai breaking up a fight between jackie and natalie, and putting herself in between them, in an obviously protective stance in front of jackie
Tumblr media
Then, during dinner before the final argument with Shauna, when Jackie refuses to say grace, who tries to defend her and says she doesn't have to ? Taissa.
When Jackie takes her stuff to sleep outside, who tells her not to, and then immediatly gets insulted ? Taissa. She even looks confused when Jackie goes "don't pretend this isn't what you wanted the whole time", like girl where did that come from ?
Who is the only one trying to get Shauna to talk to Jackie while she's outside ? Taissa.
Taissa was even more respectful towards Jackie's dead body than Shauna was. Taissa was the one who barged in the shed and saw the makeup on Jackie's corpse. She's the one who told everyone that they should burn it, cuz let's be real, Shauna would have continued to play with it like a Barbie doll until it was completely rotten guys. She was also the only one who was viscerally disgusted after realizing she ate her, throwing up when Van told her she ate Jackie's face.
Taissa is a perfect example of a character whose actions contradict her words entirely. In my opinion, she was more of a friend to Jackie in her last days and after her death than Shauna ever was in what we've been shown.

Between all the paperwork that comes with being the new prince of the Infinite Realms, his rouges battles and studying for an upcoming test, Danny is exhausted. So when the Justice League summons him for a favor he is very withdrawn to say the least. He rushes them along, takes care of the bad guy they point him to, then leaves.
It is only about a week later once Clockwork offers to take over some paperwork for him and he eeks out a C- on his English test that he finally gets more than 3 hours of sleep. It is then that it finally hits him. He met THE Justice League. How cool was that? ....... and then he treated them like a bother. Totally not cool. Yeah another visit was probably in order. Maybe he could bring a gift basket too.

sometimes I look at how people in this fandom treat one another, and I just think...
y'all are doing this over an author who wrote a character whose dick is too big for his underwear. Like, she wrote that. On purpose. She wrote random accidental beheading, she mixes up character names, she confuses dates, she wrote a fae king who has packs of red thongs at his house for ??? reasons. I guess because you never know when your guests will need packs of red thongs.
This is the content that you are bullying, harassing, and stalking other actual humans over???

The take that Moffat had to make every companion important or make the Doctor the most important person ever is extremely funny to me. It’s definitely true that for Amy and Clara, they are presented originally as “important” but their later appearances always focus on dismantling the notion of being simply “important.”
S6 and 7 for Amy begun to progressively unravel things like her marriage to Rory and the “girl who waited” concept is sidelined aside for moments where its plot convenient (Wedding Of River Song) while Clara originally begins similarly, her actions of recklessly jumping into the time stream and her own interior life is put under scrutiny in S8 and 9. Plus Bill and Rory are just some girl and guy respectively 😭
The whole point of The Pandorica Opens and A Good Man Goes To War literally is an attack of the notion of the Doctor’s own personal importance and how it has grown to the point of undermining what it actually means to be The Doctor. The Pandorica Opens is literally so funny because the entire basis HINGES on undermining his grand monologue. Series 8-10 is an exploration of what it means to rise to the occasion of being “The Doctor” and concludes that anyone, as long as they are kind, has the right to embody the mantle. The Doctor Falls is arguably the most least-stakes finale of all of NuWho, the entire thesis being, “Without hope. Without virtue. Without reward” to illustrate that very point.
Moffat is unable to catch a break and that’s so funny, he can go, “The Hybrid is a metaphor” and he is still misunderstood 😭

Neil as a team captain is positively delightful, because making him captain is both absolutely insane and absolutely brilliant. It capitalizes on the passive effect of having one (1) Neil Josten (god knows the world couldn’t handle if there were more of him) on the team in the most efficient way. Like. I’m 90% sure that after spending some time around him on the same team, most people will look up to him completely awestruck for how much he has impacted their lives, but that’s just not what is actually happening here. I feel like what’s going on is this:
Neil is a terribly amazing choice for team captain entirely because Neil is a meddlesome little asshole who will forcibly fix all of his teammates’ personal problems and improve their entire lives for literally no other reason than that he needs them to be able to focus on fucking ball so he can win at sports. It’s not even that he genuinely cares about people and their well-being (apart from his original foxes). He just gets pissed when things aren’t working properly because it makes Exy annoying when the lineup can’t communicate. Exy isn’t supposed to be annoying. Exy is life. He’d meddle whether he is captain or not, but by making him captain, he has so much more official executive power at his hands. It’s like people are explicitly asking for him to do his worst. So, fueled by his own competitiveness and love for the sport, off he goes.
Neil is just as bad as Kevin when it comes to his Exy obsession. The major difference between them is that Kevin is endlessly tactical and he runs Exy with a focus on a technical and physical level entirely, whereas Neil’s approach is to look beyond a lack of practice and basically psychoanalyzing people on why they are not doing 110% for Exy. Kevin says “let’s run this drill 500 times, then we will inevitably be better”. Meanwhile Neil is scheming how to coerce and bribe people into life-changing decisions and long-needed healing, entirely because he wants to optimize playing a sport. Exy is a team sport, which is why this is the most logical approach his little Exy brain comes up with rather than minding his own fucking business. He looks at the team and is like “is anyone gonna whip this into shape? No?? I’ll fucking do it then cowards” and goes and does exactly that. It’s like he’s fixing the equipment so he can play.
I don’t think anyone except for Andrew is really aware that Neil really isn’t doing this out of the innate goodness of his heart, but because his personal brand of practicality involves the most convoluted and creative kind of scheming. I feel like Neil is a lot more selfish than people give him credit for. Sure, there’s people he cares deeply and unconditionally for, but that’s really not everyone. It’s fascinating to watch, especially because it’s not like he ever hides that he doesn’t particularly care, but people kinda assume he does, because why else would he put in this much effort?
Exy. The answer is Exy.

How absolutely wild must it have been for Nightmare to have like, minimum-to-no contact with mortals for hundreds of years and then the first two he has any regular close interactions with are Killer and Dust.
Like he must have a book in his castle somewhere of all the observations he kept like he was studying a new species
