Ace book recommendation alert!
I’ve just finished both of these wonderful ace books and I wanted to share my thoughts! I’m not going to do a comparison because they’re both very different. I’m gonna start with Sounds Fake But Okay because I binged all their podcast episodes when I first knew I was ace and I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time.
Sounds Fake But Okay
I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s basically the aspec point of view on a lot of important topics in life, using anecdotes and surveys to bring together a varied perspective on what it’s like to be aspec. I personally love getting other ace’s views on things because our community is so broad and covers so many differences and it’s great. It was really cool to get the aromantic perspective too. This was a really easy read and I would recommend for anyone who already knows they’re ace. They make it clear that it’s not an Ace 101 books but you can still definitely read it if you’re unsure where you fit in the community.
I Am Ace
This is the ‘asexuality for beginners’ book I wish I had when I was questioning. It’s written in such an organised and logical way that it would have definitely helped to untangle the mess that was my brain when I was trying to figure out if I was asexual. It’s the FAQs of the ace world whilst also offering advice, positivity and affirmations. If you are wondering if you are asexual or are new to the community then this book is for you. As someone who already knows they’re ace, I didn’t particularly learn anything new but it just made me so happy that a baby ace could pick this up and have all the information they need in one place. It also has a bit at the back for recommendations of resources such as other books to read, people to follow on social media and websites to check out. I’d say as well this book is brilliant to recommend to your allo friends to save you giving a Ted Talk every time you come out. You can just be like ‘here you go, here is all the information you need and then come back to me after and we’ll talk about how I fit into all this’
Have you read either of these books yet? What did you think?

I'd hate like hell to leave New York. I was born here. I went to school here. I've been run over here — twice, and on the same damn street.

don't trust her dazai, she's gonna blackmail you to buy every flavor of ice creams and bully you anytime chuuya is around.
i don't trust my writing to be readable so dialogs under the cut:
Kyouka: Dazai-san, is it true that you're going to die of heartbreak if you have to hide your undying love for big brother any longer?
Dazai, earlier that day: If poor Chuuya hides his undying love for me any longer, I'm afraid he'll die of heartbreak!
Dazai, now: 'Not exactly in those words...'
Kyouka: I don't want you to die. So I decided to help you by acting as your illegitimate child. With this plan big brother will take pity on us and agree to go out with you.
Atsushi, murmuring to himself: Could it work? I mean, I wouldn't fall for it myself ofc, but Chuuya-san seems like a kind person... Would I fall for it?? If Aku had an....
Tsushi and Dazai: 'Isn't that the plot of the TV show from last night?'
Dazai: Kyouka-chan, that's a PERFECT idea!! 🌸
Kunikida, from his desk: No it's fucking not!

A fun thing about trying to figure out if you're neurodiverse is when you want to compare your experiences to see if they are "normal," and you suddenly realize you're actually not sure ANY of your friends or family are neurotypical

"Hell's Greatest Dad" reads like someone told Alastor at some point that "Your daughter calls me 'Daddy'" was a great way to piss people off, and he decided to put his own spin on it.

SECRET SWEETH TOOTH: Sweets turned out to be one of Sisi’s favorite over-indulgences, and she was known to splurge on confections and pastries. She frequented Demel, the official patisserie of the Imperial Court, which was conveniently located across the street from the Hofburg. She would slip in and order thick hot chocolate, homemade truffles, and sumptuous slices of chocolate cake. She was especially fond of candied sugar violets, and always went home with a box. Her passion for violets was so great that she even indulged in her favorite treat, violet ice cream, when she wasn’t starving herself.
THE FAIRY QUEEN: Sisi got the idea for her famous sparkling stars after attending a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at Vienna's Burgtheater. The actress portraying Titania wore a sprinkling of glittering stars in her hair; inspired, Sisi then requested her own fairy stars from the imperial jeweler. She saw herself as the fairy queen Titania, and her bedroom (which she called "Titania's enchanted castle") was painted at great expense with scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream by a young Gustav Klimt.
THE LOOK: Her beauty routine was legendary. She used facial waters of rose, chamomile, lavender, and violet to remove impurities, and she would slather her cheeks with pure honey, rose petals and crushed strawberries. After her Rapunzel-esque hair was done to her satisfaction, it would be sprayed with Creed’s Fantasia de Fleurs, a heady floral fragrance created especially for the Empress, with a regal bouquet of the best Bulgarian roses.
