Watched "Cost of Living" and y'know, it's not often that I think to myself "this episode of Star Trek would've been better if it had focused most of its runtime on a holodeck malfunction," but here we are.
#i thought for sure that whatever was breaking the systems would break the holodeck and trap lwax and alex in a glitched simulation#it could've been so good! like imagine if parallax being kind of unsettling had been intentional and then it had gotten way worse!#but then when the holodeck breaks they just leave without incident#and so there's not really anything tying the plots together in terms of theme or story except that they're happening simultaneously#also once again why the fuck does this spaceship not have spacesuits why does everyone just die if life support fails#this is a very silly show at times#walrus consumes media#walrus watches tng#idle musings

Understanding Parallax WordPress Themes: A Comprehensive Guide

In the dynamic world of website design, parallax WordPress themes have emerged as a popular choice for creating visually captivating and engaging websites. But what exactly is a parallax WordPress theme, and how does it enhance the user experience? Let's delve into the intricacies of this innovative design technique.
A parallax WordPress theme is a type of website theme that incorporates parallax scrolling effects into its design. Parallax scrolling is a technique where background images move at a slower pace than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth and immersion as the user scrolls down the page.
One of the defining features of a parallax WordPress theme is its ability to create a sense of depth and movement, making the browsing experience more interactive and engaging for visitors. By leveraging parallax effects, website owners can capture the attention of their audience and guide them through the content in a visually stimulating manner.
But beyond its aesthetic appeal, parallax WordPress themes also offer practical benefits for website owners. These themes often come with a range of customization options, allowing users to personalize their site to reflect their brand identity and vision. Additionally, parallax scrolling can help improve user engagement and reduce bounce rates by encouraging visitors to explore different sections of the website.
When it comes to choosing the best parallax WordPress theme for your website, there are several factors to consider. Look for a theme that offers responsive design, ensuring that your site looks great on all devices, from desktops to smartphones. Consider the theme's compatibility with popular WordPress plugins, as well as its ease of use and customization options.
Now that you understand the basics of parallax WordPress themes, it's time to explore some of the top options available. Check out our curated list of thebest parallax WordPress themes to find the perfect fit for your website. Whether you're building a portfolio, an online store, or a corporate website, there's a parallax theme out there to help you make a lasting impression on your audience.

DC fandom is so strange.
You got one portion of the fandom insisting Bruce hates Hal and thinks he sucks (in general or at being a hero), which is completely incorrect no matter what version of the characters you’re looking at.
And another portion of the fandom that ships them, which is not baseless at all, but somehow the ship is completely divorced from that base anyway. Like they canonically do have a dynamic one can easily make shippy, but that is not at all what any Batlantern I’ve seen invokes.
Like. Bruce developed a whole batshit psychological complex of perpetual distrust over Hal’s descent to madness. So much so that if you made a list of events in comics that canonically completely rewrote Bruce’s entire worldview, character, and relationships, Hal becoming Parallax would probably rank only below deaths of his family based on how different his philosophy is before and after. Pretty much everything people know about modern Batman has some of its roots in Bruce’s fucked friendship with Hal.
But. That just. Never comes up ever??? In fandom?? On either side?????
I guess part of the problem is the disjointed nature of comics, where it’s not always easy or even possible to follow the narrative through line of character relationships between titles and writers and retcons. And on top of that, comics used to be a lot more subtle, with subtext and unspoken themes, which maybe not every casual reader will pick up on. But even considering that, the…blindness to Hal and Bruce’s canon, super messy decades spanning history is bizarre. They had one of comics’ sloppiest friend breakups ever and not even the shippers talk about it??
#green lantern#batman#bruce wayne#the justice league#dc comics#batlantern#I guess but as in the fandom around the ship not the ship itself

Re: 70s movie discussion... the 70s had so many really interesting movies both in horror and outside of it. Sure, there's the more obscure stuff like Ganja & Hess, but for example Harold & Maude was pretty well-known and I still think about it because of how it depicted societal pressure and expectations with personal desires and Harold's and Maude's relationships to death as self-actualization. Or The Deer Hunter, which is one of many movies that tried to process the Vietnam War. Or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, or The Network, or The Parallax View. Or Eraserhead, which goes back again to obscure and weird, or Suspiria for something non-USAnian. Like the overarching theme of the decade certainly had a lot of disillusionment and thinking about your own mortality or fragility and the relationship between the self and society at large coupled with a strong distrust. There's so much more there but as you said, this conversation starts at Star Wars but goes much, much further and much more personal! And for people dabbling into it for the first time, Id actually recommend Harold & Maude bc it is also a very fun movie to watch
The really cool thing about American cinema in the 70s is it was a reaction to the collapse of the studio system and the end of the Hays Code. So you end up with a lot of transgressive and more experimental cinema. In a very real way you could not make Last House on the Left or Jesus Christ Superstar or Taxi Driver as they are during the previous period of American cinema. In general in the 70s you have greats leaps for gay cinema (John Waters, Rainer Werner Fassbender), black icons (Shaft, Foxy Brown, The Wiz!), female directed films (Elaine May!!!!) Dealing with fallout from the Vietnam War and the Manson family, Cold War feelings (which would come to a much stronger head in the 80s), Nixon, sexuality, etc. Folk horror was huge (the meeting of the past and the present), there was an explosion of sci-fi movies concerned about tech and space.
(I've attached 50 70s movies for the people that just don't know where to start)

Y'know what would be cool?
If every member of the Justice League in a cinematic universe (animated or live-action) had a different instrument that was the primary in their theme song. Ideally something that makes sense for their characters or genre. So like Batman's theme could be really heavy on string instruments like violins, while Flash's theme might be defined by drums that change tempo to match his speed throughout the movie.
I don't really have a solid idea for what the other JL members' instruments would be. Maybe brass instruments like trumpets for Superman and woodwinds for Wonder Woman? Especially for Green Lantern, since that could depend on which one we're talking about. While it would make sense to just make one theme that plays for any member of the Corps, for Hal specifically I'm thinking electric guitar- I'll get back to why later
Anyway, a really neat idea would be if each individual member's theme song sounded almost incomplete or unbalanced by having one instrument dominate. Until the full Justice League comes together and then the various different instruments come together into a complete harmony. Hell, maybe the JL theme song is actually the different members' themes layered together (I have zero experience in music composition so idk if this is realistic), to really emphasize that they're meant to be a team
Going back to Hal's theme being electric guitar, imagine if the movies decided to go down the Emerald Twilight route. It'll probably never happen, but imagine.
In the crater where Coast City used to be, Hal mourns. In his grief, he uses his power to recreate the whole city and everyone in it, his theme song playing but with an acoustic guitar instead of electric and at a much slower pace. It cuts off abruptly when the Guardians reprimand him for using his power for personal desire and order him back to Oa. Hal takes off, his theme song once again played on the electric guitar. But this time, it's played on a minor key (assuming the normal version is on a major key), sounding discordant and wrong as Hal Jordan takes down his fellow Green Lanterns and is fully consumed by Parallax.
The minor key version essentially becomes Hal's theme as long as he's Parallax (and maybe the slowed acoustic one is his Spectre version). His original theme song isn't heard again until Rebirth comes around and Hal is freed from the parasite and resurrected.
#I know nothing of composing music I only played the trumpet for several years during middle and high school#I was watching Youtube videos of songs written in major keys being played in minor keys and that inspired this#justice league#hal jordan#green lantern#batman#bruce wayne#the flash#barry allen#superman#clark kent#wonder woman#diana prince#dc comics

Thunderbolts*

I'm so glad a Marvel movie is good again. I've been tapped out since Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it's just nice to watch the thing I like entertain me.
The Thunderbolts: a ragtag team of misfits, moreso than even the Avengers, all sent on a mission where they turn out to have a lot more in common than they think, and also be in way over their heads.
First some negatives, because even though I enjoyed this movie there are some problems. Namely: Bucky and Ghost aren't really given anything to do in this movie, and are just kinda along for the ride. Taskmaster isn't in the movie very much, and it's a little disappointment to not have them for long or give them a second chance.
But man, what a cast! And what a fun plot. A lot happens and it's hard to remember it takes place over less than 24 hours because you get so endeared to these utter assholes. Yelena is the standout here, where it feels like this is almost her movie, and Red Guardian and US Agent are both excellent supporting characters in the central theme of depression.
Speaking of: Robert "Bob" Reynolds AKA Sentry AKA (spoilers?) the Void. What a fun, dynamic new character! Everything about him, from his introduction to his powers to his turn as a villain was perfectly executed, especially his design as the Void.

It's hard to compare the two, and it almost falls into the trap of giant cloud adaptation, like Galactus in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer or Parallax in Green Lantern (2011), but I hold it as a much better version of that trope. Because of course the comic-accurate Void is a mess of limbs and proportions that would be a nightmare to animate, so while the Void in Thunderbolts* is technically a lot simpler, I think it works because
The rest of the execution is good, so it is bolstered by its constituent parts.
Their own design is highly creative; that's not him being shadowed by the sun, that's just a black void where a person should be. You only ever see his eyes or (in one notably terrifying scene) his teeth.
If I may offer one complaint that makes this movie merely a fun treat rather than a delectable meal, it would be the surface-level treatment of depression. As someone who suffers from it (and of course I do, I'm on Tumblr) there's a nature to the hole in your heart that the movie doesn't quite grok.
There's scenes that feel familiar (Yelena, going through the motions; Red Guardian, drowning in alcohol and nostalgia; Walker, desperately trying to earn approval; the self-medicating, the self-loathing) that's touched on and brought to the forefront. I was also touched by the final resolution of the Void plot being a lot more about empathy and understanding than it was about fighting, which I appreciated. And the core thesis that spending time with people you love and helping other people will help alleviate symptoms.
But it is very surface level, or entry-level might be more accurate. All the characters are people who haven't been taking care of themselves who now have to figure out what their own mental health has to look like. It's Hollywood's obsession with origin stories: everyone wants the bold beginning, but the muddy middle makes for a complicated conclusion. I just hope these characters retain these flaws and struggles in the future and we get to see their good days and their bad days.
All in all: I had a lot of fun. The parts that were good were rarely great, but nothing felt bad.
(also: you can make a fun game by watching the way this movie dances around political lines. John Walker is a case in himself about how removing the conservative angle from his politics kinda weakens the nature of his character as a whole, but there's a number of times in this movie where politics are discussed and the movie very clearly goes out of its way to not say Republicans or Democrats. It's hilarious)

All this chilling brutality and violence in the hands of an organization built to maintain the peace cannot mean anything good for the future of the corps. I'm aware of some of the events of future books, but I don't know how they will happen, despite that, I have a feeling that the enforcement of lethal force is not a good development for these characters. It feels wrong and corrupt and I hope this is addressed, it will make things interesting
I appreciate how Dave Gibbons and Geoff Johns are working and extending the themes of morality and corruption, that before only concerned Hal Jordan during his time as Parallax, to the whole corps. Who can decide which life is worth keeping or exterminating? If the power is in your hands would you act on it, especially when it feels justified or even necessary? What does wielding this power mean to an individual and their organization? (Arisia refuses to use the lethal force for example, but Salaak, the bureaucrat lantern, is seen killing enemies despite feeling bad about it: "my duty is to serve" he says)
Fascinating topics can com from that, I always expect this kind of reflection to be present in Green Lantern books. The morality of the corps and the meaning of its power. There's no way to ignore the fact that the corps are often described as a police force. Dealing with the problems of authority and abuse of force that can arise from that can be very interesting

saint brune: yes. very melancholy and haunting. fits him nicely
between two worlds: ive actually heard this one before! and assigned it to a different OC. but listening to it again with the scoundrel in mind... yeah, it fits. i can see what ur cooking here. not one i would've thought of, but fair play all around.
never frozen: interesting choice for the scoundrel specifically. i feel like it'd fit caeru better? it's a bit too?? echoey??? for their tastes???? im not sure how to put it. it is definitely going on a hypothetical scientist playlist, albeit not a scoundrel one
For the music convo I'll throw Saint-Brune 1147 for Caeru, and Between Two Worlds and Never Frozen Bottom Flows for the Scoundrel
hmm. understood. takes notes. one moment
#between two worlds (specifically the lets lament version) is parallax's theme#they are. very different to the scoundrel. but the song fits nonetheless

PC Engine - Godzilla Battle Legends
Title: Godzilla Battle Legends / ゴジラ 爆闘烈伝
Developer: Hudson Soft
Publisher: TOHO Co. Ltd.
Release date: 26 February 1994
Catalogue No.: TCCD4001
Genre: 1-on-1 Fighting
Format: Super CD-ROM2
This game is a MUST-HAVE for all Godzilla fans, as it pays homage to the movie series from 1954 through 1993 when the game was developed. Many consider it to be the best Godzilla game for any system until “Destroy All Monsters: Melee” came out on the Xbox. Stages accurately depict the backdrops where Godzilla faced off against his respective foe. But, in an over-the-top nod to fans, the Godzilla character art changes to match how he looked when he fought said enemy! Nine Godzilla incarnations are included.
This is NOT a super-fast-moving Capcom button masher. The controls are responsive, but the characters are 20,000+ ton behemoths, so don’t expect to sneak in with a heavy jab and then fly to the other edge of the screen in retreat. Backgrounds have multiple layers of parallax, and the bitmaps are well drawn, but they seem a bit sparse. Some stages have a pagoda or castle to crash into, but the arenas won’t blow players away. Sound shines on this Super CD. Each stage has a well-orchestrated theme and just hearing the authentic voices of the beasts sends shivers of happiness surging.

Trembling Essence:💙Background updates + script progress💙
Hi and welcome new followers!
A big thank you to the sudden influx of support I got this week, I wasn't expecting any of it and it was really encouraging! In between art practicing I managed to get more work done than expected! >:,]
Here is the new/updated CG's for the start of the game:
Since I've come a long way with shading I went back and fixed up the initial encounter you can get with Noah and changed out the background. It took longer than expected because some of his expressions didn't line up correctly but I'm happy with the overall foreboding theme I was aiming for. I even added a small parallax effect when he helps you up afterwards. :]
For the dialog I cleaned it up by removing certain parts that didn't add to the story or dragged the situation on for too long. I even fixed some of the conversations you can have with Noah in the beginning that was slightly misleading and confusing to read through. :[] As for the backgrounds I tried looking for more references after I finished redoing this CG, specifically ones that helped me with perspective. Sometimes I have a habit of drawing scenes too flat. In good news, the fog animations are optimized in them so it's easier for me to add! :,,]
The overall progress has increased quite a bit! Everything is going smoothly so far! I don't know when all of it will be finished but it shouldn't take too long.
Q&A / Ask box is open for itch.io now:
I had no idea that you need a Tumblr account to send in questions to the inbox so going forward I'll adjust my game development posts to reflect that in the Q&A section. If you have a question you would like to ask on itch.io if you don't have a Tumblr account, feel free to comment there as well! It will be answered there and on Tumblr :]
If you have any questions about Trembling Essence/Noah feel free to ask here please. This makes it easier for me to see and answer accordingly! I would really like to hear from you guys!
Overall, thank you to those who have sent in asks after everything got reset! I'm trying to get to them when I can including the ones I remember that got deleted. I just need time to answer since I like to respond with doodles/drawings as practice. :]
This is everything I have to share so far, thank you guys for your continued support through this process, I appreciate it! :,,]

i have a question: i just saw your art and i went “wow that is pretty.” i’m not sure what a parallax is (so im gonna google it) but when did u start making this kinda art!!!! it’s pretty!!! i would gnaw on it like a baby with a teething to y !!
Thank You so much! ^_^ The Parallax in my user name/artist handle refers specifically to stellar parallax, a method in astronomy for determining the distance of stars. I thought it would be fitting for a space themed account. I also just wanted a name that felt themed sort of like Jimmy Neutron. LOL I started really leaning into doing space art back in 2020, when like most people, I suddenly found a lot more time on my hands. I’ve been meaning to post more of my art, but I have a bad habit of getting stuck building new ships in blender and new outfit pieces in Inkscape instead of finishing up individual pictures and getting them uploaded. I’m very glad you like my art! I take being gnaw worth as very high praise. To thank you for reaching out, here’s a piece that’s been waiting to be seen for awhile.
