Do any actual historians or sociologists still think that women magically become housebound and oppressed when a society picks up grain-based agriculture, or is that just one of those things they teach us in school?

Because first of all, in a small subsistence farming community, everyone works the fields during planting and harvest seasons. There's not really any other option.

And secondly, in a non-industrial society, there is so much fucking work to do to keep everyone alive, even if we only look at food. Grain farming is a solid way to get a staple food, but you need a lot more than that. Once grains are harvested they need to be threshed and stored. You need vegetable gardens, and then you need to preserve the vegetables so you'll still have food outside the growing season. That means pickling, drying, packing in oil, making jams and preserves, etc. There may also be orchards or bushes to tend. Herbs (because everyone has always wanted their food to have fucking flavor). There are animals to care for: feeding, milking, and collecting eggs. Butchering and then preserving meat. Someone in a household has to also be aware of and tracking how much of everything you have. Between planting and harvest, crops need to be tended: weeded, watered, protected from animals or thieves.

And if we look beyond just food production? Clothes and tools need to be made, which is a full-time occupation by itself: sheep or goats have to be sheared, fibers processed and spun, cloth woven, and clothes stitched. Raw materials need to be gathered and prepared for use. If something breaks, someone has to repair or patch or make a new one. Pottery and baskets need to be made, as do string, rope, and fishing nets.

Wood or dung for cooking has to be gathered, and if you live somewhere with cold winters, a LOT of wood needs to be set by. Water needs to be fetched from wherever your community gets it. Children need to be looked after and educated. The elderly and infirm need care.

All of these tasks require specialized knowledge and skills. People are by and large not idiots, but there's a limit to how many skills a single person can acquire well enough to perform them on the level needed for survival.

And this isn't even getting into community leadership, arbitrating conflicts, organizing group labor, and the host of related social wrangling that has to happen to keep a group of people functional.

Throughout history and around the world, different cultures and communities have organized who takes on which of these tasks differently. Yeah, there are some trends and patterns about gender roles that are interesting. But it would be foolishness to assume just because work in a particular group is segregated by gender roles, that women were also oppressed and devalued. That speaks more to our own views of the value of certain kinds of labor more than anything else.

I guess my point here is that we don't know how or why so many societies developed some form of gender-related stratification. And projecting our own particular form of patriarchal society backwards in time or onto different societies is an unhelpful form of revisionism.

No.1: Vinnie is usually the first to panic

while none of trio are 'in charge' -nor should they be- Vinnie does take the lead more often than Skipp or Stone do {these two also tend to look at her before taking action, which is actually adorable} so it's pretty cool to see she's not oblivious to dangerous situations like her archetype tends to lean into -> also Stone's totally contemplating breaking the window to get away from the pageant zombies

No.2: Stone is super protective, despite acting like he's not

but he does it in a way that doesn’t come across as thinking the other two are incapable, it’s more like: you totally could’ve dealt with that, but im right here so you don’t have to

No.3: Skipp isn’t helpless, nor is he treated as such

this is really awesome bc trios typically have that one character that’s really bright and bubbly but that’s also often infantilised by both their peers and the fandom -> Vinnie and Stone are totally confident in his feral capabilities though, and apart from briefly scolding him when it was necessary- they don’t treat Skipp like a child {which is an extremely refreshing change of pace}

No.4: ✨FOUND FAMILY✨

you got the black cat, doberman, and orange cat all in one with these silly guys! + stone's small smile when they fist bump, my heart!

No.5: The black cat is a softie

surprising absolutely no one, Stone has a hard time saying no to his family. that's not to say he can't express a boundary, like how he feels about physical touch, but he does let Vinnie and Skipp cling to him for brief intervals -> he also is already accepting that Maggot's going to be a fixture from as soon as the other two are leaving the alley way

all in all, this pilot does a mind-blowing job of portraying archetypes in a new and refreshing way that doesn't feel forced -> the animation style is beautiful, the characters are multifaceted and complex and it walks the line between silly and badass perfectly

I have been thinking about ramshackle a lot recently And I have a theory

At first the only one who seems to be concerned about maggot is Skipp. That is until he mentions that maggot’s alone with no one to care for him. Vinnie immediately stops what she’s doing and starts to worry. What skipp said probably hit close to home since we know she was abandoned by her parents as a baby.

When stone suggests bringing maggot to an orphanage vinnie immediately yells at him for even considering it, saying “everyone knows an orphanage is no place for a kid”. This makes me think she may have been abandoned in an orphanage where she was treated poorly, causing her to not want the same fate for maggot.

I’m probably just reading into it to much and it’s just funny irony since orphanages have kids in them. Just food for though.

So because people already voiced their opinion on where twst story is heading, I also want to voice my opinion as well and I'm on neither side as this is purely from my perspective.

Well, we can all agree that the Diasomnia chapter is dragging too long and some of us are already bored of it (me, as Crowley stan who actually has been sleeping the entire Diasomnia chapter, no pun intended, but already made a peace out of it)

But still, am I the only one who is actually getting excited? No, I'm not talking about Diasomnia chapter. I'm actually talking about Ramshackle chapter.

Because the other day I found an info in X that Yana is on a long hiatus from Black Butler because she is going to England during her break to do research.

Now this might seem like she is doing this research only for Black Butler, but what if...the reason why twst seems to repeat the previous books on Diasomnia chapter is because :

1. They want to slip some hints that refer to book 8 (Ramshackle chapter) so that everything is suddenly making sense once we enter Ramshackle chapter, and

2. They also want to give Yana some period of time dedicated doing research for the last book, the Ramshackle chapter for Twisted Wonderland as well?

Because if twst is really heading to the direction of "Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There", just like how it has been hinted by in-game Mickey Mouse, then that means she is most likely doing research for Twisted Wonderland as well, because both Black Butler and the real literature of Alice in Wonderland with its sequel Through The Looking Glass are actually have something in common and that is : "Victorian Era"

Black Butler is telling a story about an Earl with his demon butler, and serves as the watchdog of Queen Victoria, which means the manga itself is about the Victorian era. While the original book of Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass was written during the Victorian era, in which so many cultures around that time had influenced it.

On the one hand, I'm not interested in having "romantic relationships", or even sure what people mean when they talk about that at this point.

On the other hand, I do get romanticism, in the sense of idealizing something. But that's hardly limited to people, or to certain kinds of relationships. You can romanticize your work, or an idea, or a place... you can romanticize a person without it being what (I think?) people would call "romantic love." It's fun to read about in stories! Big grand gestures, epic devotions, Shakespearean levels of drama.

I think you can romanticize little things in your life in the sense of putting a lot of care and devotion into them. But that sort of thing is an active choice. Devotion and care are ways of acting, not emotions.

Dunno where this is going. Maybe just to say: It's confusing. I'm confused. Is this something that makes sense to aro people? Is it something that makes sense to anyone else?

i was rewatching tangled and i thought that yuu and crowley r kind of similar to mother gothel and rapunzel listen to me i beg

yuu is stuck in twst , so they have essentially no way out and if they fight back, crowley gives them a sort of “oh but im doing this and im so generous” thing yk, like mother gothel he’s saying “i do this because im so generous and i care” literally listen to mother knows best you’ll notice here’s some lyrics in particular

“i only bathed, and changed and nursed you, go ahead and leave me, i deserve it, let me die alone here” crowley acting like he’s given so much to yuu, giving them a rundown dorm to live in ect ect

”on your own you won’t survive,” yuu literally having no where else to go. crowley convincing them that they can’t leave nrc

and of course, “mother knows best.” after all, crowley is the head mage for a reason, he’s doing this all in your best interest. /sarc

this is more fanfic / headcanon territory but you could also headcanon that crowley just tells yuu out of context stuff about twst that makes it seem a lot scarier than it is , like say yuu tries to like go somewhere that isn’t school related and takes advantage of the fact they’ve been through a lot of overblots and would in my opinion, have an understandable fear of a certain degree

with this headcanon I’d like you to consider the “also large bugs! men with pointy teeth and STOP! No more you’ll just upset me!” line. i mean u kinda already have ppl with pointy teeth here crowley but anyway it’s a shine of light at his hypocrisy in this . Also the fact that mother gothel says it so much like crowley please
