The Ransom of Hector, from Iliad Book 24: Priam, at left, grasps Achilles' knees in a posture of supplication, begging him to return the body of Hector, which lies below, its feet still bound from Achilles's dragging it around the walls of Troy. Red-figure hydria (water jar), attributed to a painter of the Pioneer Group; ca. 510-500 BCE (Archaic period). Now housed in the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA.

Detail of Apulian red-figure loutrophoros with Zeus and Aphrodite (left) and Eniautos and Eleusis (right). Attributed to the Painter of Louvre MNB 1148. Greek, Classical Period, c. 330 B.C. In the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Description from the Getty:
To the right sits Eleusis, the personification of the Greek town that was home to the Eleusinian Mysteries, an annual festival that promised its initiates good harvests and a happy afterlife. She is accompanied by a young boy bearing a cornucopia full of wheat. Conveying the idea of agricultural fertility and so an appropriate companion for Eleusis, he is named as Eniautos, the personification of the Year.

Hey, if you do crafts (especially things like crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc), make sure to look up how to identify when a listing is AI generated. You do NOT want to waste money on an incredible looking kit or pattern that is physically impossible to make, especially if you're on sites like etsy hoping to support an actual artist.

UTRH AU - (before revelation) Jason tries to kill Dick but can’t keep his emotions under control. Loosely inspired by this.

The ancient Greek festival of the Adonia. This festival was celebrated in honor of Adonis, Aphrodite's beloved, who was slain by a wild boar sent by a wrathful Artemis. After a dispute between Aphrodite and Persephone, Zeus ruled that Adonis would spend four months of the year by himself, four months with Aphrodite, and four months in Hades.
The Adonia marked Adonis's annual return from Hades. It was celebrated exclusively by women, who would ascend to the flat roofs of their houses carrying vessels with celery seeds, as pictured here. We are told by Aristophanes (Lysistrata) and Plutarch (Nicias and Alcibiades) that in 415 BCE, when the Athenian assembly was voting to send an expedition to attack Sicily, the vote was interrupted by the ritual cries of women beating their breasts for Adonis; after the expedition's dismal failure, this was understood as a bad omen.
Fragment of an Attic red-figure lebes gamikos (wedding vase), attributed to the Painter of Athens 1454; ca. 430-420 BCE (Classical period). 19 cm (7.3 in.) high x 15.5 cm (6 in.) wide. Now in the Louvre.

Wait! Theseus was taller than the Minotaur?
I think this is an artist who doesn't believe the story that's been assigned.

Love when the Justice League thinks Batman is a cryptid. This believe is only further enhanced by the face his sidekick, Robin, is clearly a shapeshifter, what with changing their height, hair style, skin tone, and even gender.
Batman clearly thinks that by having Robin look different every couple of years, it will show that they aren't cryptids like it would if Robin didn't age.
But the Justice League is too smart for that. They figured it out! But they are good friends (colleagues) and won't spill Batman's secret, but they will drop hints to him that they know, to show that they are smarter than he gives them credit for (they aren't.)
-
When the batkids learn that the league thinks this, they start periodically going to the Watchtower with Bruce, taking turns dressed up as Robin.
The League is surprised as Robin seems to prefer taking the form of a child, perhaps to have villains underestimate them? But they just assume Robin is trying out something new.
The batkids definitely tell eachother about what was said/happened as to further sell the act of Robin being a shapeshifter, because clearly it has to be the same person, Robin knows what happened, so it couldn't of been someone else dressed as Robin.

Something something violence has always been the primary love language for Waynes, something something.
It breaks me that Bruce loves Jason so deeply, and Jason is so completely unaware of it. He comes to the conclusion that love is religion. You have to see to believe.
I’m just thinking about Jason watching evidence of how wrecked Bruce is after his death. He stalks Batman, always, tracks down every movement and breath. He waits for the perfect moment to shoot.
Your father only dies once, after all.
That moment, mysteriously, doesn’t come.
Jason’s never been scared of Bruce. Fear, to him, is darkness and cold and a bleach white face laughing at him. Fear of Bruce not being there at all. That’s fear.
I need a scene where Jason, — Red Hood, — watches Batman pin down a mugger.
He doesn’t know what that man says. Something about getting on him for not being there when Wayne’s boy got killed.
He’s never been scared of Bruce.
But when he punches that man, over and over and over, when his throat makes those horrible sounds of gasping effort, animal and feral, he’s afraid. Afraid Bruce won’t stop.
He’s about to jump in when another, smaller pair of feet runs up to the scene and Jesus Christ that’s a kid — A kid wearing Jason’s old uniform. Wrapping his arms around Batman’s and clinging.
The man on the ground is motionless. If he didn’t blink, Jason wouldn’t know there was a face anymore.
But that’s not the worst part.
The worst part is Bruce crying. Gasping, punched out noises, his hands drenched with red, squeezing the kid so close to him.
“My baby. Oh my baby.”
