Au: zuko and azula both raised by dragons

Hello @hersheysmcboom !!

1. During a family trip to Ember Island, the family is hit by a massive storm. The storm causes their ship to be destroyed and Zuko and Azula are believed to have died at sea as they were never found by their parents or any search parties. However, they did not die. The four and two year old actually washed up on Sun Warrior Island where they were discovered by a giant blue dragon. Shaw, understanding that these are incredibly young humans, took them both back to her and Ran’s cave. Thankfully, the Sun Warriors also found them when they heard the two crying. Shaw was not happy to have the humans steal her newfound babies but eventually came to the agreement that the Sun Warriors would help with some things (like keeping them clean, providing them with milk and clean water and education) while Shaw handled mostly everything else. (Sun Warrior: She thinks they’re her babies. Chief: Yes, she does. And as long as she’s not eating them or leaving them to die, I see no reason why we shouldn’t let her keep them. Sun Warrior: Chief, she’s a dragon. She and Ran can’t take care of two humans children, especially at their age. Chief: That’s what we’re for. Trust me. These kids will be okay.) (Yeah there’s no way to write that where the chief doesn’t sound crazy.)

2. Time goes by and Zuko and Azula grow up believing Ran and Shaw to be their mom and dad (not biologically but adopted parents). Azula has no memory of Ursa or Ozai but Zuko does. Sometimes he remembers his parents but it always ends with remembering the storm too and that keeps him from wanting to push himself. Additionally, the two train with the Sun Warriors when their firebending presents itself. As per canon, Azula is still a prodigy but she’s not pushed to her limit since Ozai isn’t around and there isn’t as much competition between her and Zuko (still some because they’re siblings but not much). (Azula: Mom! Mom! Mom!!! Zuko: She’s out hunting. What’s going on? Azula: I made blue fire! Blue fire! Not even an Avatar can do that! Where’s dad?! Zuko: You made blue fire?! Azula: Look! *shows him her flame* Ran: *Growl* Azula: Dad! Dad! Look what I did! I made blue fire like you and mom! *Shows him her fire* Ran: *Soft purring and licking Azula*)

3. More time passes, Zuko is 16 and Azula is 14. They don’t remember much of anything outside of Sun Warrior Island but, thanks to the teachings of the sun warriors, they know about the war and the outside world. One day, the family is fast asleep when Ran and Shaw wake up and fly around the island. Zuko and Azula are confused and frightened and ask what’s going on. The Chief tells them that the Avatar has returned. Feeling like they have to do something, Azula convinces Zuko to join her and find the Avatar to teach him firebending. The Sun Warriors allow them to leave as long as they don’t reveal the island which, of course, they promise not to do. Their cover story is that they’re kids from a FN colony in the EK. (Shaw: *Sad growl* Zuko: We’ll be back, mom. I promise. Shaw: *Huffs air into Zuko’s hair* Zuko: Mom! Azula: Come on, mama’s boy! We got a long ride to get to the Earth Kingdom. Ran: *Growl* Azula: Dad, no. You and mom have to stay here. Dragon hunting is still going on and if you’re spotted…..you just have to stay here. Zuko: We’ll be back in a few months. A year tops.)

4. Zuko and Azula have never been in the outside the world when they finally arrive in the Earth Kingdom. They know how to steer a ship because of the Sun Warriors teachings but they're utterly confused by everything else. (They don't know what money is, they don't know that people can steal from them, they don't know why the other kids their age find them so weird, everything about the outside world is so strange to them). By the time they find the Gaang, the group has just met Bato. The siblings were at the Fire Nation town where the group would go before meeting Jeong Jeong, only this time Zuko and Azula confronted them and out loud said that they wanted to fight the Fire Lord and teach Aang firebending. Needless to say, Jeong Jeong still isn't happy and scolds Zuko and Azula and tells Aang he isn't ready. Jeong Jeong still eventually agrees and while he's teaching Aang, he notes that Zuko and Azula have golden eyes. (Zuko: So? Jeong Jeong: Only members of the Royal Family have eyes like yours. Where are you two from? Azula: We're from the colonies. Jeong Jeong: Which one? Azula: The-The one in Omashu. Jeong Jeong: Ah, yes. That famous colony. I suppose I was mistaken.)

5. The Gaang and siblings travel to the North Pole where the fire and water siblings friendship really starts to pick up. Aang has been the most enthusiastic about their presence so far while Katara and Sokka have mostly been tolerating them. It's in the North Pole that they really start to connect and become friends. While in the North Pole, Zuko grows sick due to his weaker flame and, while Sokka and Yue are watching over him (because Katara and Azula are busy fighting the patriarchy), he mentions Ran and Shaw. When Yue asks who they are, Zuko slips up and admits that they're his adopted parents and that they're dragons. Sokka and Yue, not sure if he's being serious or hallucinating, agree to keep their mouths shut. When Zhao attacks, he doesn't recognize Azula and Zuko but he does know that they're firebenders and, for some reason, helping the Avatar and they are recognized as traitors. The North Pole ends the same way, but it's what happens after it that changes. First, the survivors report to Fire Lord Ozai that two teenager firebending masters are helping the Avatar. Second, Iroh, hiding in the EK, receives word that two teenagers--who look like they're from the Royal Family and are the same age that Zuko and Azula would be if they were alive--are traveling with the Avatar and trying to help him with the war.

That's right besties! It's that time of year again! And in an attempt to keep y'all entertained with your favourite blorbos, I'm hosting this bingo so we can all share our creations and you have something to fixate on while I'm busy as hell at work!

As per usual:

Submissions can be anything! A mood board, a ficlet, headcanons, drabble, gif sets, one shots, social media au's, make it a mini series following the holiday journey of the same two characters! literally whatever you want!

Prompts are all winter/holiday themed. If it specifically says "Christmas" it does not need to be Christmas, it can be whatever holiday this time of year that you want!

Absence → A remix fic I wrote for @tua-masked-author based out of @littlerit's amazing work, The Time Traveler's Life. It's Klaus pov of his 14th birthday and Five's multiple appearances. Angsty.

If Only → An AU in which Patch didn't notice Five's van across the street and Cha-Cha got tired of waiting so she kills Klaus on S1E4.

Bubble Thoughts → Another @tua-masked-author entry, an older one this time. It's a post-S3 fic in which Klaus reflects on his father's betrayal and his actions in that season. Luther helps him cope.

I can die when I'm done. → Written for @tua-masked-author first edition! It's a missing scene fic from when Klaus was locked in that tiny motel closet in S1 when Hazel and Cha-Cha left to blow up Meritech. Character study, internal monologue. Lots of Angst & Hurt/No Comfort.

The Bargain → An old wip that I really should pick up again. It's an AU in which the Handler decided to use Five's love for his siblings against him and uses Klaus as a hostage to get Five to work for her on S1E5. TW: SA.

DC Batman

'Cause you all try to keep me down → Black Mask kidnaps Red Hood and Red Robin and Jason is forced to watch Tim get tortured by the man who hates him the most. This fic was written for @febuwhump 2024. TW: Whump & electric shock torture.

resigned. → A drabble in which I explore how sick and tired Jason is of giving the batfamily a chance, only to be disappointed, but he can't not give in, because he deeply cares about them. Character study. Loosely set post Batman and Robin (2011) #20: Red Hood.

I'm absolutely obsessed with Jason Todd at the moment and have so many fic ideas, including a Time Traveller's Wife AU coming up soon. Stay tunned!

Riordanverse (PJO, HOO, TOA)

Oh, ho, the mistletoe (is hung where you can see) → Jasico Imprint Soulmate AU written for @jasico-challenges's Bingo Challenges 2024. Between flashbacks from the past, nightmares and christmas presents, Jason and Nico figure out how to tell their friends the truth about their relationship.

If you had one more chance → Jasico fic for the Percy Jackson Gift Exchange Autum Equinox 2023. Nico struggles after Jason's death and decides to risk everything to bring him back. Orpheus & Euridyce style.

Every Breath You Take → Jercy fic written for the Percy Jackson Gift Exchange Winter Solstice 2022. Percy and Jason are secretly pining for each other. In a road trip across the country, they finally face their feelings, but not withought some angst and jelously in the middle.

It Doesn't Matter Anymore → A Jason Grace character study from when he was stuck in the wind prison in TOA. What was he thinking on his very last moments? Angst and Hurt/No Comfort. TW: Major character death & implied/referenced suicide.

AU where Azulon was adopted, and by adopted I mean, Sozin stole him after his parents conveniently died because Sozin is so old and his genes are probably compromised. Also I could easily imagine Sozin getting desperate enough to steal someone's kid and bury the evidence as I imagine he forgot to have kids due to being angry Roku told him to fuck off or the kids he did have weren't benders so he banished them and didn't want another failure.

Sozin becomes so focused on the comet that he forgets he's supposed to have children. After Roku dies, Sozin realizes that he needs to have some children of his own. He is the Fire Lord so there are one or two kids with his blood running around but they're all either nonbenders or weak benders so Sozin doesn't claim any of them. He's in his old age when he really starts to see that he needs to have some children, desperately. He goes to his inner council, a group of two or three men that are the Fire Lord's closest allies, are tells them about his worry. One of the men says he knows of a friend, an admiral, who just had a son with incredibly bending ability. After Sozin gets more information on the baby boy, he orders the infant brought to him and his parents killed. To the Fire Nation, the story is that a happy couple and their baby were sadly killed in a fire started by the admiral during a fight. Meanwhile, their Fire Lord just announced a healthy baby boy (with no mother in sight) and named him Prince Azulon, his rightful heir.

It's kept under wraps throughout Azulon's life that he's not related to Sozin by blood. The whole point of the Royal Family's rule is that they receive it by being blood related to "supposedly" Agni. So if it were to come out that Azulon isn't related to Sozin by blood then that opens the floodgates for people to potentially challenge his rule down the line. That being said, it's clear to literally everyone that Sozin had a child very, very, very late in life. (Councilmen: Fire Lord Sozin, I didn't even know- Sozin: Yes, it happened suddenly. One of the servants came to me a few days ago and said that this little one was mine. She saw that he had such firebending potential that she wanted to give him to me. Councilmen: Thank the spirits that there's an heir to the throne now. He'll make a fine Fire Lord one day. Sozin: Yes, he will). Azulon grows up in the palace as Sozin’s son exactly as you would expect. He’s taught to bend, put into academic lessons the moment he’s old enough to read, and into prince lessons once he’s old enough to walk. Sozin both doesn’t spend much time with Azulon because he’s old and because he’s not a good father so Azulon doesn’t really have much care at all.

Time goes by and Azulon lives under the believe that he’s Sozin’s son. Everyone just tells him that his mom was really young which makes a lot of sense to Azulon so he never questions it. Eventually, Sozin passes away and Azulon becomes Fire Lord. A few months before his father dies, he gets into an argument with one of his inner councilmen who starts telling people that Azulon isn't his real son and isn't royal blood. Most view his rants as those of an idiot who is spreading rumors because he's mad at the Fire Lord. Azulon doesn't really question anything because, again, it just seems so crazy, but he can't help but wonder if there is some truth to this and goes looking. When he goes looking, he finds his real birth certificate that was hidden away so no one would find out. (Azulon: FATHER! Sozin, on his death bed: Azulon? Azulon: Why!? Just why!? Sozin: You're going to have to be a little more specific, son. And what did I tell you about disrespecting your father? Azulon: You're not my father! Sozin: Huh? You finally found the truth. I was beginning to think you never would. Azulon: Why? Sozin: I needed an heir, you were strong and a baby. Everything worked out perfectly, wouldn't you say? Azulon: You killed my parents! Sozin: I made you a prince! *Cough! Cough!* What are you going to do? Tell the world? The Royal Family will crumble, the nation will crumble and you will be left with nothing more than whatever you can grab when they kick you out of the palace. Azulon: You don't care at all? I-I really thought- Sozin: It is not my fault that you were an idiot. The choice is yours, son. I'm already dead. There's nothing I can do to persuade you one way or another.) Azulon stays quiet.

Azulon later marries Ilah and has Iroh and Ozai. Ilah passes away seconds after Ozai is born which leaves Azulon with a hatred for Ozai. He can't look at him without seeing another parent killer like Sozin was. Azulon "raises" Iroh and Ozai as best he can while also being Fire Lord but the two brothers are pretty much left on their own. Iroh and Ozai are as close as they can be for having a ten year ago gap but they are still close and Iroh hates seeing his father hurt Ozai so much. He hates it enough that he decides to do something about it, but there isn't much he can do because he's not Fire Lord. That is until he comes across a familiar birth certificate and realizes the truth. Azulon would certainly have a lot of trouble if people found out he wasn't royal blood. The only problem with this is that it would also affect Iroh and Ozai and reveal that they aren't royal blood either. For a while, Iroh sits on this new information and doesn't do anything. Then comes the day that Azulon also burns Ozai's face (in a very familiar fashion) and Iroh stops him and decides that he needs to get Ozai away from here. He gives the birth certificate to the council then runs off with Ozai that night and with enough food and money for them to survive until he can get a job somewhere. (Ozai: Iroh? Where are we going? Iroh: Somewhere safe. Ozai: Is father coming? Iroh: No. No, we don't be seeing father...ever again. Ozai:....Thank you. Iroh: Always.)

Iroh and Ozai get stuck in a massive storm while they're sailing away from the Fire Nation and wind up in the South Pole. Because they are not wearing clothes appropriate for the weather or know how to fish, the two don't exactly have a fun first day. During their first night, a young mother finds them and brings them to her village so they don't freeze. The next morning, Iroh meets Kanna and Ozai meets Hakoda, Kya and Bato. Ozai is absolutely not up for leaving his brother's side and being around children he's never met (it has nothing to do with the fact that he's never been around kids his own age and doesn't know what he's supposed to do. Why would anyone even think that?). Kanna and the village are very iffy about letting two Fire Nationals stay in their home but they also don't like the idea of kicking out a 18 and 8 year old into the cold. Eventually, Kanna agrees to let them stay but says that they will kick them out if the two act like princes or start firebending at them. Since their in the middle of no where and Iroh basically just told the entire Fire Nation that he and Ozai have been accidentally lying to them for years, neither is very intent on getting kicked out of the village. (Plus, Iroh really likes seeing his brother getting to play with other kids....he just has to keep reminding Ozai that throwing snowballs doesn't mean you whack people straight in the face as hard as you can with a snowball.)

1. How do you draft your threads usually?

So if I'm drafting to draft, I may or may not write a little / some notes before sending it to my drafts. That's where the magic happens later (where I write) and then of course I save it, exit out to snip it (thank you Xkit Rewritten crew!) and post! I'll use a short queue if I have a lot of stuff.

2. Do you believe in long notes threads or each time the plot changes, you write a new starter?

This is a big "it depends" because I think what I really am is a lover of massive threads that stretch over the course of a lot of mostly-consecutive events. However -- and this is where the "it depends" bit comes out -- this only applies to single plotlines. If we try out something new, some au of our muse's canon, or if we do something in a backstory time period, I really think it belongs in a separate (long) thread.

3. Do you feel jealous of doubles? and if no, please share ways for others to learn.

I cannot stress enough to you (the RPC in general) how much I love "doubles" -- and henceforth we're calling them twins, because at best I've seen "doubles" as neutral and mostly it's "doubles" /derogatory and we don't do that in House Kat.

No but twins are fantastic. First off, the mun could (should) be built-in support: they love the same character (proof that they've got similar taste), they love the same piece of media the character is from, and both of you loving this same character immediately opts you into a timetravel thread, check mate.

I think jealousy about twin muses comes from a couple different places, really. Insecurity is the big one, insecurity that they'll be the better writer, that people will like them better, that you'll lose your partners to them... and then possessiveness. Now first, If there is a twin, you can bet it's not of your OC; it may be of a player character, like a main character you customized from an RPG, but it is not your original character (by which I mean both original in every way, and original within a fandom space). That's your baby, we're not talking about that. We're talking canons (divergent, AU, whatever) and player characters here, the ones that can be -- I'll use it this once -- duplicated.

But here's the thing: no two people write the same character the same way. There may be a lot in common, because you are (duh) working from the same template. In fact let me correct myself: there should be a lot in common and if you come up with nothing... something ain't right. (Yes, even say SWTOR player characters. There's massive difference in personality of Light Side / Dark Side but they still go through the same life events. They still have the same people around them.)

I'm not saying there's no originality. Like, I play with other Genesis Rhapsodos RPers -- I've been blessed with five extended writing partners over the years that come to mind. I think out of the six of us I'm the only one who had Genesis 1) model for extra money as a Third (2) have completed some college during SOLDIER -how much varies- and (3) embraces and uses magic as a marriage of science and the supernatural. (That one depends on verses.)

He also thinks Loveless is meh in any non-degrading verse.

We're all different on that, and that's FANTASTIC. Being able to have someone write a "what if" about this character you love for you? Wonderful. Being able to sling headcanons back and forth? Glorious. Having someone who loves your blobo as much as you do to talk with?

Priceless.

The whole thing is, really, and if you take nothing else away please understand 99% of the time, no one's "copying" you. You have the same character/template and they see the character similar to how you do, which is very common and reasonable. Please, calm down y'all.

So uh, if you're still reading (kudos you VIP!) I am NOT jealous of my twins. I am confident as a writer in my unique take and absolutely love to talk to people who love the same character -- isn't that what RP is about? Loving other people's takes and putting yours out there?

Very rarely !! Though, I have gotten occasional "you should have done This or That for a better ending!!" or "why have you posted This fic when you should be posting That fic?" It's very rare, and I usually delete them, but whatever. I'll post what I want. Every one billion years. At 3am. On a Tuesday. Don't tell me what to do >:)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Have written it waaay in the past? But never posted it. It was for a different fandom I'm not really part of anymore. Considering all the relationships in my current fandoms... it might never happen again lol

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

So... remember that one fic I mentioned? The 5th fic I wasn't gonna talk about? Yeah... My friends and I were playing a game called Frantic Fanfic. You basically make a random list of characters and you have 10 minutes to write a story, beginning-middle-end, with two of them. I posted the one I wrote, True Italian Pizza, between Super Mario and Five Nights at Freddy's. You can imagine how insane that fic is.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Never, thank goodness !! (Though if you do wanna use any of my concepts/aus/headcanons, feel free to! but Please let me know, I'd love to hear your takes!)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Technically no, but I did make art for My Roommate's Haunted??? for Invisobang! I also have two WIP fics inspired by art for Ecto-Implosion. I'm not sure if it counts, but still! :D

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I have several, tbh? in many fandoms. For DP, probably Everlasting Trio. But really, I'm a sucker for Eldritch!Danny - and thus, he has many hands. Many many hands for many many little guys. Crossover ships are my jam tho, like Anger Management (Jazz x Jason) and Brain Dead (Tim x Danny). Also Bad Blood (Dan x Jason) is criminally underrated.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Okay. WIPs. I'm currently working on a Lancer-centered fic, and I really want to finish it. I'm worried I'll never finish my Danny Phantom x The Magnus Archives fic - I started it but it's still really early in the process. I wanna continue working on it after Ecto-Implosion and after the Lancer fic, but I'm not sure I'll ever finish it. Tho after that, there's my Jekyll!Masters and Hyde!Plasmius fic. I haven't started that one, but I know that once I do I'll definitely finish it at the speed of lightning.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I love silly little descriptions of random tiny details that don't really seem important until you realize it was actually foreshadowing for something way larger later in the fic. I love myself some motifs and symbolism.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Fucking dialogue. Don't get me wrong, the problem isn't characterization or tone or anything. But if I do start writing dialogue, it's really hard to build a scene around the words I want to say. It gets too wordy and too long back-and-forth, and I really struggle with dialogue pacing. I wanna get better at it ngl - it's always either 100% scripted dialogue or no dialogue at all.

Also how does one write sad scenes without being funny. I keep throwing jokes and puns around to make it less uncomfy to write. but it just ends up being funny. how can I not be funny

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

LOVE when characters themselves speak in another language. I like to include it in italics (and the translation in brackets if necessary!) Unless it's something like, the entire conversation is in a foreign language, then I might throw in a "oh and btw this is all in Japanese but protag's brain auto-translates it to english ooooh anime logic"

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Surprisingy? My first ever published works were entirely original (though I was 8 years old, and thus they were obviously Shit™️)

I think my first actual fandom fanfic was for Percy Jackson, when I was like,, 9??? 10??? It was very obviously a self-insert 2nd-gen fic, but it was silly goofy and surprisingly not terrible.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I like them all in their own way !! tho ngl?? Either Way, It Ends lowkey slaps so hard - it's a short one-shot and deserved better tbh. Writing it was really fun !! I love dif depictions of Death in media, so go read it if u can :>

So far, all my published fics are for Danny Phantom. It's a fandom that's near and dear to my heart and my favorite to write for. I've written fanfiction for myself in a lot of different fandoms over the years. Miraculous Ladybug, Mega Man (Star Force, Battle Network) and Fire Emblem are a few. (Will these ever see the light of day? Probs not, lol)

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?  5. Frayed Ends - 37 kudos - Jazz and Maddie are fighting more often. Jack wants to reach out and help his family. 4. The Same Blood - 45 kudos - Maddie and Jack try to help a sick girl that collapsed in front of their house. They don't know what to make of her condition. Danny wants to help.

3. Returned Home - 49 kudos - Maddie finds Danny at home after he disappeared ten months ago.

2. The Broken Pieces Left Behind - 66 kudos (tie) - Maddie knew what the portal did to Danny. If she could create something that essentially turned him into a ghost, she could figure out a way to fix all of it. Even if she hasn't made any progress in the past two months, she'll keep trying. She didn't account for what Danny wanted. 1 . What's Out of Out Control - 66 kudos (tie) - Danny thought he had it under control. He thought he could finally hang out like they used to always do. Tucker could feel the rift between them widening. It wasn't getting smaller anytime soon.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to! There were a few comments from my two earlier fics that I never responded to and it's already been so long and I feel like I ended up putting it off too long to say anything now 😓But I'm so so thankful for all the comments I receive! I never thought anyone would read my work, let alone comment on it. I'm always between two modes of 'author commentary' and 'screaming thank you and running away'.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Lol, I love my angsty stuff and there are so many different flavors of angst, so it's hard to pick just one. I'd say the piece I aimed to write for Angst Fest, The Broken Pieces Left Behind, might be it. It ends on a rather hopeless note for the Fenton family that even I don't know how to make everything better for them

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Home for a Cat. It was for a Ectoberhaunt prompt that I was absolutely stumped on. So I decided someone was going to adopt a cat by the end of the fic.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Ahh, so I actually posted a fic on FFN wayyy back when I was in high school. I remember it being received pretty well but I got a really rude comment on a simple spelling mistake. Back then, I was just told I had dyslexia a few years prior and I had some really bad self-esteem issues tied in with that. So, yeah, that comment basically made me terrified to ever show my work to anyone ever.

It's been over ten years since then and I wanted to actually get over that fear. I impulsively decided to do Angst Fest with the mindset that no one would even look at what I posted. Not only did people look, everyone has been so kind!!!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

lkdajldkf, nope. I get flustered trying to write basic romance and having two characters hold hands, lmao. Major props to those that can, it's definitely a skill that takes time to master just like any other genre.

Nope, but it seems like a lot of fun.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Back when the show was airing, Amethyst Ocean (Danny/Sam) was my go to. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers tropes and it's really nostalgic for me. But, I don't really read a lot of shippy things for Danny Phantom, so ships don't make or break a fic for me.

If I'm looking to read romance, the whole Love Square (MariChat my beloved) with Miraculous Ladybug will always be great. Even if I jumped ship on the show around season 2 or 3 and I have no clue what they're doing now, lol.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I honestly have so many WIPs that are unfinished on my computer from over the years. Maybe a super old one that I titled 'Phantoms in the Daylight'. Angst once more with Character Death as the main pain point. I like the beginning but oh boy, does it get sloppy and confusing real quick. I'd need serious outlining energy put into it if I'd ever want to salvage it and I just don't have it in me.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue! Give me two blorbos and I'll make them talk forever.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Scenery and description. I love the dialogue portion so much that I end up running into the floating heads in an empty room problem in the first drafts of my fics. My first round of edits are dedicated to making sure I have a scene and grounding characters into it. And then I have to go back later to make it not feel so robotic sounding.

(Also a weakness but more as in fic than writing. Summaries and Titles. I stare at my drafts on AO3's editor for at least half an hour trying to pull something together, lol)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I can probably talk about this for hours, lol. I absolutely love foreign languages, especially when it comes to linguistics. So, I'll try to be brief, lmao. Short answer: depends on the fic but normally no. I already spend so much time fussing over the word choice/slang/formality/dialect characters use in my native language. I don't have a good enough grasp on another language for it to sound natural to the reader. ("They would not fucking say that" is my internal monologue during dialogue edits, lol)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

It's a toss up between Pokemon and Danny Phantom. I first learned about fanfiction from a friend who showed me FFN for the Pokemon fics. I looked around the site and found all of the Danny Phantom fics soon after and got hooked on those. I started writing around then and it would have been for one of those two.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Hard to chose one! Writing technicality wise, I'm proud of how What Remains on the Table turned out. I consider description my weak point, so the original draft was 0 dialogue with very stiff descriptions. I was able to edit it to really practice my environmental storytelling. (Although, please mind the tags if you click the link as it does deal with the dissection topic)

I didn’t include Fuwa because not much changes for him in this universe. Well, except his battle with the chip in his head is drawn out more and he doesn’t have a mini arc of trying to literally beat sense into Yua. It’s going to take more than that for her to change her mind

No one suspects metsuboujinrai has a fifth member. As it turns out, the .net isn’t just for aesthetic purposes or to emphasize they’re a network. Jin and Raiden take great offense to this obliviousness, but they keep their mouths shut because some things are better off as secrets

Yua (“net”) is a technical advisor who joined ZAIA and then A.I.M.S to usurp Gai and further metsuboujinrai’s goals. Her desire is less of human extinction and more to see a world where she can pursue technology without precedents like tradition, having to think about survival over ambition, and humans fearing the capabilities of A.I.s. This is thanks to her childhood in the influential yet strict Yaiba clan. The elders looked upon her interests with distaste, suffocating her to the point where she ran away at age twelve. She ended up in Daybreak - and fought against the rogue Humagears, as opposed to running away or being protected by someone else. Her actions gained Horobi’s approval, and he introduced her to the Ark. She trained for years, cramming as much knowledge as she could, making modifications to her body to adapt to metsuboujinrai equipment, and became one of the best in the technology field by the age of twenty - which caught Gai’s interest. And that’s exactly what the Ark wanted

As Yua does a little of everyone’s roles, she’s the one member everyone listens to. Sometimes they can’t help wondering if she takes the cause more seriously, because Horobi and Raiden were brainwashed to serve; Jin comes to reject it; and Naki is in the middle. This is especially so when Yua works to have the Ark gain its own body in the form of Izu, and literally no one came up with this idea

Yua and metsuboujinrai have to pretend they don’t know each other whenever they’re on the field, and they go all out in their battles to add to the illusion. But the person who fails doing this the most is Jin. Since Yua and Jin quite literally grew up together, they’re very close to the point where he calls her “nee-chan” in private. Her patience with him is almost limitless, and she even indulges in a couple of his eccentricities (i.e. buying him oil pastel crayons to draw with). Jin gave her the nickname of Valkyrie, which she uses as her Rider name. One could say that since violence was the only thing they were taught, violence is the way they express their affection (i.e. Jin singles her in their fights). Yua often tells him to expand his horizons to further his combat capabilities but he never listens - and it takes a tragic turn when he fights Aruto, gets outmatched and seemingly dies. It’s one of the few instances where Yua expresses staggering emotion, and she incorporates her newfound vendetta into Gai’s original plan of bringing down Hiden Intelligence. The entire workplace match arc was done as a distraction so she could recover Jin without any interruption

Horobi sees Yua as one of his own and works accordingly to make sure any upgrades in Yua’s hands aren’t too taxing. As the first person to see Yua for her true worth and treat her as his equal, Yua is profoundly loyal to Horobi, to the point where she immediately repaired him after metsuboujinrai fell the first time. A part of her desires Horobi to openly call her his daughter but she acts as if this train of thought is pointless. In her mind, she wasn’t created by Horobi - upbringing aside - so it makes sense for Jin to be the one receiving this treatment. Even so, she’s concerned about how Horobi (who never had a chance for independent thought) would cope in a world where extinction is accomplished. Thus, she’s working to carefully and slowly strip him of the Ark’s influence, though Jin upsets part of those plans by reconnecting Horobi to the Ark

Yua only met Naki after she started working for ZAIA, but they quickly develop mutual respect for each other. Naki perceived Yua as an admirable older sister for her competence in technology, and Yua thought Naki had the kind of docile, calm temperament she liked (after having to work with people like Fuwa, Gai and Jin). They often spend hours in peaceful silence, with Yua working on technology and Naki merely observing her. A small rift appears between them when Naki considers co-existence as a possibility, because in Yua’s eyes, it’s far from a logical conclusion a Humagear, working for Gai, would draw. But affection isn’t lost for Yua, after discovering Naki’s fate, discards any plans of toying with Gai. Instead, when metsuboujinrai is defeated the first time, she skips over a couple of steps and takes over the ZAIA business empire. It would be months before everyone realized Yua murdered Gai with the same pistol he used to kill Naki, and took Thouser for herself. That also explained why someone as egotistical as Gai let a “mere tool” represent ZAIA in every meeting they had with Aruto

Yua only met Raiden after he was revived, and he was quick to see himself as an “older brother” to her. Namely, he targets Fuwa for all the times he ignored Yua’s advice in their time at A.I.M.S. It’s treated as a inconvenience on the level of an overprotective brother threatening to break the legs of someone his younger sibling brought home. Yua is actually embarrassed by him

After a failed comedy gig, Aruto is approached by Korenosuke, who announces he wants to install Aruto as his successor - but not without acting as a mentor. This doesn’t go smoothly. Anything resembling bonding time between grandfather and grandson in the past twelve years was Korenosuke giving Aruto a weekly allowance and giving him any material thing he wanted. And Aruto’s constant pun-making has an underlying motive of wanting to annoy Korenosuke to the point of abandoning his plans. A part of him is resentful to the old man burying himself in work and only displaying interest when it was convenient to him. However, this is a chance for both grandfather and grandson to make some personal discoveries and repair their broken relationship. Korenosuke shows Aruto the nuance that exists in Humagears, and realizes 1) the hopes of one generation don’t translate in the same manner to the next and 2) you can’t just internalize the feelings of love you have for your family. Sometimes you have to show it, to let them know you care, even if you have your personal failings. Aruto himself shows Korenosuke that he’s become jaded in certain ways (i.e. his views on A.I.s and humans sharing intimate relationships) and realizes families are consisted of people - people who make mistakes they can’t take back, even if they regret them. Overall, the two bring out the best and the worst in each other

When Yua leaves A.I.M.S after metsuboujinrai’s first defeat, she’s replaced by Izu. As the first Humagear to work for the organization, Izu often gets subjugated to “jokes” about going berserk. However, she proves her worth multiple times, and shows she’s excellent at shaping up candidates to become efficient officers. She makes it so that when Aruto forms Hiden Manufacturing, A.I.M.S is on his side. She provides a side of comedy by turning off Fuwa’s access to the suit when he’s risking his safety for reasons she’s uninformed of - resulting in moments like Fuwa not being able to fight the newly revived Jin (who refuses to fight him because of no suit). Izu’s main point of exposure is to Fuwa (her partner) and Yua (the consultant), so her personality develops a combination of overcoming troubles by punching them harder (Fuwa) and being somewhat cold + considering several options of resolving problems instead of a thousand (Yua). But it’s telling that both of them do have good sides, because Izu reflects that. She’s quick to give someone a chance if they prove themselves and refuses to leave any of her subordinates behind, be it literally or in terms of moral dilemma. However, the progress she makes has Yua determine her as the best option for the Ark’s vessel

Au where after Kya's death Katara is taken by raiders to Fire Nation where she escapes and meets Hama

Hello, anon!!

When Kya is killed, Katara is in so much shock and pain that she accidentally waterbends in front of the raiders. Yon Rha realizes she's the waterbender but he also doesn't want to kill a child so he captures her. The raiders take her to the Fire Nation, with the intention of bringing her to Azulon so that he can decide what to do with her. Throughout the journey, Katara is constantly told about how horrible the palace is and how Azulon will probably want to kill her because she's a waterbender and the raiders taunt her about her mother's sacrifice so Katara really isn't having a good time. She's, obviously, terrified by the time they reach the shore, but they're not at Caldera and instead they stopped at the island to quickly get some supplies. While they're there, they let Katara come off the boat to stretch her legs. Since Katara is a child, there isn't much security put around her so as the guards are taking her towards the palace, Katara slips out of their hold and starts running. She doesn't know the Fire Nation but she is much smaller than them and they're running through a crowded village so the guards quickly lose her. Katara keeps running and running and running until she finally passes out in the forest.

Hama hasn't started bloodbending people yet. She has the skill but she hasn't seen any real need to go after the people in the village yet. One day, she's getting food from the market and hears the guards questioning people about the disappearance of a waterbender prisoner. Hama instantly drops what she's doing and looks for the missing prisoner. Her plan is to hide them in her inn until the guards leave. They stopped looking for her so maybe they'll stop looking for this new bender. She's walking back to the inn when she sees a small hint of blue on the forest floor. (Hama: Oh...oh, no. Katara, waking up: Mom? Mom...I had the worst dream. Hama: Sweetheart- Katara: NO! No, no, no-get away from me! I don't want to die! Get away! Hama: No, no, I'm not with them. I'm a waterbender like you. Katara: You are? Hama: I am. Do you know the Southern Water Tribe? Katara: That's my home. Hama: I'm from there. Do you know a woman named Kanna? Katara: Gran Gran! You knew Gran Gran! Hama, chuckling: Little Hakoda had children I see. I was your grandmother's best friend in the village. My name is Hama. Katara: Hi, Hama. I'm Katara. Hama: It's nice to meet you, Katara. We can't stay here but, if you want, you can come to my inn. I can protect you from the guards. Katara: Yes, please). Hama takes Katara to her house that night and gives her food, water and a place to sleep.

Hama wasn't expecting the waterbending prisoner to be an eight year old child. Katara won't be able to handle a journey back to the South Pole on her own and Hama isn't willing to go with her, so Katara remains with Hama. She stays in the inn for a few weeks, hidden from the world, and then, when it's safe, Hama allows her to come with her into the village and says that she's her granddaughter. (Hama: Just lost her parents to the war. They were killed during the battle of Tu Zin. Villager: Poor thing. How old is she? Hama: She's only eight. Katara: And a half! Hama, chuckling: My bad. Eight and a half. Villager: Nice to see she still has her Fire Nation spirit. Hama: Yes...Fire Nation spirit). Since the guards didn't exactly mention that they were hunting an eight year old, no one puts together that Katara is the missing waterbender. Of course, aside from just giving her shelter, Hama also starts teaching Katara. Similar to the show, Katara is a natural at bending. She's able to learn how to bend water out of air by the time she's ten, makes ice by eleven, controls plants and takes the water inside them by eleven as well, learns healing by twelve and becomes a master, at least by Hama's terms, when she's fourteen. Although, Hama never mentions bloodbending (at least not yet).

When Katara is fourteen, news reaches them that the Avatar is alive. Hama doesn't believe it, saying that it's just a lie made up by the Fire Lord to get people to fight in the war. Life goes on as usual until Katara hears a group of teenagers one night talking to each other. (Toph: Water Tribe slumber parties must stink). She reveals herself and says that she and her caregiver can provide them with a home for the night. The next day, she finds Sokka snooping in the attic and scolds him for looking through Hama's things. (Katara: You wouldn't want someone going through your Water Tribe stuff! Sokka: I know I-...How do you know I'm Water Tribe? Katara: I heard you last night. You were very loudly declaring you were from the Water Tribe. Which one? North? Sokka: No, South. Katara: You're from the Southern Water Tribe? Do you know Hakoda? Sokka: O-Of course I do. He's my dad. Katara: Wait....Sokka? Sokka:....This is getting weird. Katara: SOKKA! *Hugs him* Sokka! It's me! It's Katara! Sokka: K-Katara?). Needless to say, it's a happy reunion. Katara explains how she was able to escape and Sokka tells her about how Hakoda thought she was dead. Sokka, Aang and Toph want Katara to join them on their mission but Hama says there's one more thing she has to learn before she can leave.

That night, Hama takes Katara out to learn bloodbending. Katara, similar to the show, is hesitant but she's also been under Hama's care for six years and trusts her. Katara does learn bloodbending but becomes angry when Hama suggests using it on the people in town. She doesn't mind using it on soldiers or the royal family but innocent civilians aren't okay. She and Hama get into a fight where Katara, using everything Hama has taught her, is not only able to show off her waterbending mastery to Aang, Sokka and Toph but also defeat Hama. Katara flees with Aang, Sokka and Toph but she's also incredibly heartbroken. Whatever Hama wants to use bloodbending for, she still partially raised Katara and it hurts her to see a woman that was basically her grandmother be consumed by her hate. Katara makes a vow that, after the war, she's return to the village and free Hama and help her get back to the South Pole.
