_WHO'S IN CTRL?

Aiden's face dropped. Aiden’s father? The only one who he really really admired, even if he couldn’t really remember him? But from Aiden’s view... his father was a freedom fighter. Until the end.. He fought for what he had. No. His father was something he’d dream to achieve. Aiden knew he was good. But he could never reach his father’s level.

His name was Edward. Aiden had always idolized him. He couldn’t remember everything about Edward.. but what he did remember were some of the beatings he had receive. They were harsh. But to Aiden.. that meant sucking it up. Fessing up.

How dare this man even try to talk to or about Edward?

He finally replied,

"I'm sorry?"

Aiden stood dumbfounded. Edward meant a lot to Aiden, regardless of the actions he did back in the day.

“Exactly what you think, Pearce. Your father, Edward. He served me well. Until he had to die. And you knew when he passed away, didn’t you? You already had started your career in vigilantism… taking after him. Like father, like son, they say. ”

Quinn knew it all. He knew the vigilante. He knew the old Aiden.

He couldn’t remember one single time where he actually saw Quinn face to face in his whole childhood. In fact, he couldn’t remember his childhood in entirety. It was all a blur. He remembered the lessons he used to pay for himself, but not instances with his father. Nothing. A haze. A long-lasting fog. He never thought about it because he always focused on other jobs. He never had time to reflect on things. Aiden took a deep breath, thinking carefully what to reply to Quinn.

“Whatever my family does — is none of your business. You go out of your way to put this play for Chicagoans to believe, but I see right through the bullshit you spill on radio,”

Aiden was pissed. It showed. He gritted his teeth. Anger showed through his eyes. Shattered glass in his heart. He continued.

“I also know you grew as an orphan, but that’s nothing new. Everyone knows that. You made sure they knew. What they don’t know — is you use this façade to your advantage. Nobody knows your plans. And if they do? — They stay quiet. They know you dominate them.”

That was right. Quinn toyed people. Easily. He had a massive impact on everyone with his tragic, sad story. Yet Aiden didn’t believe it. Not one bit.

A guy doing marine research into phytoplankton is far out to sea and waiting for the samples to be ready when he spots a fast-moving ripple in the water up ahead.

Fully aware that this spot is home to a migratory orca pod, he assumes he's stumbled across an orca hunting a seal and settles against the railing to watch, because it's not every day you get to see that.

The ripples get closer, the shadows in the water more defined, the water choppier, and suddenly the orca and its unfortunate prey are zooming directly towards the boat and he's waiting, breath held, for them to duck right underneath--

When the water breaks, the ocean sprays, and he's suddenly smacked fully in the face by a very wet, very confused, and very pretty merman, throwing them both down onto the deck while the boat rocks as a confused and now quite hungry orca dives beneath it.

The merman, it turns out, thought that the boat was an ice float and didn't realise his mistake until it was too late. But he's very thankful for the impromptu rescue, and wow don't you have nice arms, and holy shit you've got legs, can I touch them? Is that weird? Can I touch them anyway? And your hair--

So of course they get to talking because they're both utterly fascinated with the other, and soon the sun has set and the samples are long-since ready and the moonlight is making the ocean look black and they part with the knowledge that they'll never meet again, and a kiss, and a lingering look over the shoulder for all the things that can't be...

And the researcher gets back to land, moors his boat, readies his samples. He packs up his things, shoves them into his bags, and prepares to go home. He steps onto the jetty boards and thinks of the merman and the solid wood beneath his feet seems to sway for more than one reason.

There's a splash. He turns, pulled as if by the tide, and there's a ripple in the water. A face. A pair of eyes made black by the moonlight.

And this is how the researcher acquires a merman boyfriend who helps him find samples and the merman acquires a human boyfriend who rescues him from whales.

For anyone who likes romance and spies and yearning and a short king being completely head over heels for a woman that can (and does) kick his ass, Argylle is the movie for you. Feel like the marketing team is leaving money on the table by not appealing to the romance crowd that is crying out for more genuine love stories on film and the one in this movie is actually really sweet and features an attractive couple with actual personalities.

“Alright,” you concede, scooting closer so you can braid a portion of her long hair. “You know, you’re pretty smart for someone who’s a figment of my mind and looks like a kid, Nahida.”

She giggles as if she knows something you don’t. “Don’t think too much about it, and besides, you’re pretty smart on your own right. People can be intelligent in their own ways, academics or not.”

“Is this your way of saying it’s okay if I fail my test next week?”

You don’t really tell anyone about your dreams, seeing as it’s frowned upon to still have them at your age. Not even Cyno and your other friends know, but you like to drop a few hints here and there.

“So while I was sleeping, I had an epiphany and thought I should make you a flower crown for helping me with my essays!” A crown of padisarahs, sumeru roses, and some wild flowers you picked on the way yesterday is held out in front of you. You smile to hide your nerves. “Here, for you!”

Cyno’s face remains impassive as he looks down at the colorful assortment of flowers, something almost like surprise showing in his eyes. His hands come up to take it, fingers gingerly brushing over the petals, handling it like it’s made of fragile glass instead of something you’d cobbled together on a whim.

It’s held close to his chest, eyes meeting yours, and you nearly blink in surprise at how unguarded he looks at this moment. So different from his usual frowns and gruff tones as he sternly corrected an error in your paper.

“Thank you,” he says after a moment’s pause.

You grin, the kind that stretches from cheek to cheek and makes your eyes crinkle, a hint of teeth peaking out. “I’m glad you like it!”

Later that day, multiple sources will claim that they saw the General Mahamatra dragging an unconscious criminal through the halls of the Akademiya, but what had them so baffled was the flower crown that stayed atop his head even as he interrogated said criminal.

I doubt it will happen but It sounds angsty enough and I like it
