DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN | 1.09
You couldn't call me?
#Daredevil Born Again#Karedevil#Karen Page#Matt Murdock#ddba spoilers#Daredeviledit#Daredevil Spoilers#Not Revolution#GIF set#Mine#Shippers gonna ship#I find it really hard to express why I like this so much and yet STILL want Kastle#It's something about how Matt relaxes around her#He's so guarded 99% of the time. And he pushed her away HARD many MANY times over the years for whatever BS reason he could think of#and they've finally gotten to a place (and it's a year later than would have been better for everyone) where this is permanent.#This is safe. This is home. They're stuck with each other.#And I love the contrast between Matt anxiously trying to convince Kristen and his gf that there's a threat and he has to go DO STUFF and#how different the reaction is when he says the same things (albeit with more detail) to Frank and Karen. It's night and day.#He's only a real person with people who know his secret identity.#There's something delicious about a phone call being where Matt's stuck. As if he doesn't have a history of dodging her calls. And I get#that he would have welcomed calls now - or in the last year - but there are so many scenes were poor karen is just getting shutdown by Matt#and Foggy. Calls unanswered or ended quickly. Because they have other stuff going on and lying to her is hard so it's easier not to pick up#And then you have Frank who is like... a fugitive? A hermit basically. Someone off the grid. Living in a basement. Who has an active cell#plan and has made sure Karen has his number in case she needs it. And he clearly answers when she rings. And there's no one else ringing.#So it's basically a phone - maybe specifically so Karen can reach out.#AND I LOVE THE FRAMING OF THIS SHOT. I love how close Matt and Karen are sitting. I love that Frank is pretending to ignore them.#Coz there's no way he's okay with how close they are. But he's not going to make it weird because he's a good friend to Karen.#Maybe I should blame Karen for me shipping every ship that involves Karen.

God I love Lucy Carlyle. Lockwood mentions a "girl he knows" one time and she almost blacks out about it.
#i get it girl#i really do#she's my favorite kind of pathetic#no but like on a real note i do get it!!#it's actually the worst feeling in the world when you're a teenage girl!#especially considering her earlier life#one thing i will never blame lucy for is being jealous as hell over lockwood#when you're a teenage girl who's been cast aside by everyone in your life#and a wonderful boy makes you feel special and seen and known and valued#any hint of the feeling that you could be replaced does turn you into a feral animal#or makes you want to black out#or both#lucy carlyle you make so much sense to me#lockwood and co#lockwood & co#lucy carlyle#anthony lockwood#locklyle#the whispering skull

jason is lashing out at bruce because he can't come to terms with his mother being the reason for his (their) death. she died in the warehouse too and when jason came back he latched all that anger onto the one parent figure he had left even though a part of him knows it wasn't bruce's fault, but sheila's. he's angry at sheila. he's angry at sheila. but she died and placing that anger at a dead woman has nothing to hold on to so it's just bruce. which if it was written better would mean that jason was acting out against a parent he knows cares about him and he feels safe with, and would be recognized in the story. he wants to die but he's scared to do it alone so he's being reckless and making bruce watch him and be there. he wants to die but he wants bruce to be there with him so he's not alone. because he died knowing bruce wouldn't make it. and he's angry at sheila for being the parent that was there. the one that didn't love him. if sheila hadn't sold him up to the joker, bruce would have met up with jason. it's sheila and joker's fault.
#i feel like no one ever mentions sheila beyond “and she sold him up and she died too”#but like. that's the parent he's actually mad at#it was never soley about bruce#he's mad at bruce too and maybe resentful but it's something that could have easily been TALKED ABOUT#IF THEY WOULD JUST TALK#IT WAS ALWAYS SHEILA#jason todd#sheila haywood#that's her name right. that bitch#bruce wayne#the victim blaming for jason's death later on makes me so mad#because he was a TEENAGER#he didn't do anything wrong???#it was ALWAYS SHEILA'S FAULT#i feel insane#it's MOMMY issues guys#we focus on bruce and daddy issues cause he's alive and yes there is daddy issues but#it's deep rooted mommy issues that really made him so fucked up when he came back

this website is all “sexuality is good” “let people be sexy” “we need to resist puritanical thought” “sexiness and sensuality are back” until it’s a 5’0 adult 26-year-old blonde woman who started off as a child star but rebrands when she’s an adult as a 24-year-old adult to be more sexual and sensual and then suddenly she’s dehumanizing herself and infantilizing herself and devaluing herself and shaming herself and shaming women and setting feminism back to the stone ages and is such such a bad role model for young girls and is putting dangerous thoughts in their heads and is using her art to convince them to sexualize themselves and won’t somebody think of the children why is nobody thinking of the children we need to protect them from this evil wicked woman who’s trying to seduce them with her evil perverted body and we need to stone that woman in the village square for reminding all of us in public that sex exists and admitting that she likes it where poor young impressionable girls might hear
#i really really hate the way some of you assholes talk about#sabrina carpenter#she’s infantilizing herself no YOU infantilize her because shes small and goofy#i dont even like sabrina carpenter ive listened to one of her songs but the way you guys talk abt her#oooooooooh it grinds my gears#a woman expressing herself sexually is not responsible for young girls everywhere sexualizing themselves#as if the past two decades of beauty standards and social media havent been prime conditioning for that#like. you do all realize what ur doing when ur putting the blame of sweeping societal issues on the shoulders of an individual woman right.#right.#‘bbbbbbbut shes making it worse!’ i promise you she is not#which isnt even to say shes not worthy of criticism#but she is not fucking babifying herself or trying to get young girls to sexualize themselves#like at WORST. she is using dated framings around sex and sexuality to make JOKES#its not her fault or her problem you see women being silly and sexy and assume they have to be dumb idiot bitches who are just taking#advantage of their young impressionable fans. or fucking whatever#and wah wah straight girl kisses girls for clicks who cares#some of you are so weird#lou.txt

Okay, hear me out
Imagine with me. Batman, pedaling as fast as he physically can, on this children's bike, chasing a rogue. It was the only option he had, and he knows he'll be made fun of later by his kids, but he has a mission at the moment, so he can't be bothered to care

And then passing him is Nightwing riding a segway (Nightwing themed, of course), Red Hood wearing heelies, Red Robin on his normal motorbike, and then Damian on a little classic child tricycle.
As it turns out, someone (Alfred) had hidden all the normal vehicles for a prank war, left only Red Robin's motorbike to frame him (because who would suspect Alfred??), and was currently receiving pictures from Barbara to add to a photo album.
Alfred knows he's safe from retaliation, even when they figure out who did it.
#Tim was the only one unaware of the prank due to leaving last and not seeing the other vehicles#no one is pranking alfred back#the way tim gets out of being blamed is because he plays the “listen you guys know I'm smarter than to make myself the obvious choice” card#Bruce is the funniest to see due to the sheer size difference between the bike and him#plus the training wheels-#dc#batfam#batman#robin#red robin#red hood#nightwing#bruce wayne#alfred pennyworth#tim drake#jason todd#batfamily#dc comics#dcu#damian wayne#dick grayson#gonna be honest I couldn't think of anything for Steph#and I feel like Cass occasionally isn't in prank wars because she's far too good at them#and the others can never win#also not sure on Duke#though he patrols during the day typically so he wouldn't really be featured in this scene anyways

ok call me crazy but like as much as the belinda pornchai breakup is paralleling the belinda tanya fuckover you have got to acknowledge that these are VERY different situations. tanya told belinda she believed in her and wanted to fund a business then flaked time and time again, getting her hopes up every time just to leave her in the dust over nothing. belinda and pornchai genuinely really liked each other and respected each others' work but their relationship was built on a romantic connection that could have maybe had a business element -- belinda choosing to get the fuck outta dodge after the greg deal despite the one night stand and some wishful thinking about starting a spa together is NOT the same as tanya telling belinda she wants to fund her dream and then saying she actually won't for personal reasons.
#like starting a business with a guy you don't know that well with money you got through really shady means is kind of lowkey a bad idea!#i can't even blame her!!#sorry to pornchai i do feel for him he did get shafted here but tanya was SO much crueler about it#bc she spent the whole time getting her hopes up. pornchai was starry eyed but he wasn't writing an entire business plan!!#he wasn't desperately courting her to try to get something out of a one sided relationship#tanya USED belinda. but belinda and pornchai liked each other and then the situation changed#she absolutely could have been kinder or a better person but it is VERY different#the white lotus

i think the biggest crime of the "feminist mythology retellings" trend that's been going on the past couple of years is the reframing of the hades/persephone myth to be about a girl falling in love with a misunderstood sadboy and escaping a cruel dictator-like mother rather than linking it to its original context which is that it is literally a comfort tale for mothers who worry about their fourteen-year-old daughters getting wedded off and married to men years older than them. the story is literally a revenge fantasy on the MOTHER'S behalf.
#its like if someone rewrote john wick to say oh well actually the dog WANTED to be killed by gangsters bc john wick was mean to him :(#AAAHHHH#i do blame lore olympus for a bit of it but honestly this trend has been going on for a while#and its so so so ironic when these retellings are branded as “feminist” like baby GIRL. you missed the POINT#a lot of retellings are “feminist” when theyre really just the original story while the female character passively narrate#and the feminism is that men suck and are mean and cruel :(#greek mythology#roman mythology#hades#persephone#me when hadestown ilyy so much#my posts#text post#hadestown is one of the few retellings i can stand#retellings should make a point about MODERN society bc u write for a MODERN audience#romeo and juliet/west side story is a GREAT example of this#hadestown is good too because of the modern troupes and critique of capitalism#if you just put the girl in the same situation and she doesnt do shit else thats just fanfic babe :(#mothers day#since it was yesterday - here's my contribution

I like Batman. I like Batman as a character. I like Bruce Wayne. But it is very unserious when people act like Jason Todd, or maybe Damian, the robins as a whole, or any one writer, or any specific story arc, is singlehandedly corrupting Bruce’s character into an severe and inflexible colleague and distant, emotionally-unavailable father. Because even if he hadn't consistently been a questionable, loving yet unhealthy AT BEST father figure in the majority of his appearances since the early 80s (and I do mean to Dick, to Cass (actually shaping her into his image in Batgirl 2000 at the cost of her social development and autonomy ISNT good,) a BAD mentor to Steph, not even getting into Helena, like truly it’s not all about Jason?) The first well-written book that comes to mind where his morality is at its worst imo? That’s Wonder Woman: Hiketeia. No robins, no batfamily, just Bruce putting aside Wonder Woman’s input and the context of the situation and chasing down a girl who killed the men responsible for trafficking, assaulting, and killing her baby sister, to the point where it ends with her jumping off a cliff.
And the thing is I still like reading him in Hiketeia, because he fills the role he needs to fill in that story well, his actions align with his wordview even if it’s taken to the extreme in an uncharitable way, and he keeps my attention. I just think it’s goofy how some of us on here look at the guy who’s big character trait is being a hard-to-know, stubborn, and condescending control freak who puts other people's emotions on the wayside in favor of his mission prolifically, and go “all he did was LOVE TOO MUCH! His mean kids and associates and teammates are PUNISHING HIM for LOVING with his BIG BIG HEART and it’s tainting the narrative!” And you could say “well Hiketeia doesn't count, Greg Rucka is just a hater!” (though I certainly wouldn’t.) But when the issue is Damian entertaining the idea of leaving the family business, and before that it’s Red Hood stepping on toes, and then, wait, before that it’s Green Arrow and Wonder Woman, and then Huntress, and then oh wait we can’t think about the weird patch with Nightwing where their relationship was super rocky, and then Jason but before he died, and of course the Green Lanterns are basically treated like punching bags for him to do something awesome then- Like maybe if it’s a consistent pattern spanning what, 20, 30 years now? The issue isn’t Damian or Red Hood alone, or PKJ or Greg Rucka or Judd Winick or Marv Wolfman + George Perez or even Jim Starlin being a hater, but your blorbo just having extremely well-documented character flaws?
#Batman already has to be the strongest and smartest and most powerful at the cost of other characters getting shafted to a comical extent#and now he's the kindest and the sweetest and the most understanding and the biggest heart in the whole wide world too?#why's it character regression for Damian + Jason when they get into the same 20 year old fights w/ Bruce but not character stagnancy for hi#it's okay for him to stick to his guns at the cost of everyone around him but for them it's regression to not fold to his will everytime?#ok#yeah sure#some of you are so devoted to the character Batman (man who dresses up as a bat) being right forever and ever#that you're starting to use actually unbelievable justifications to defend his name in every possible situation#“it doesn't count that he punched Dick in the face he was just in a really bad emotional place!”#“he's such a cute girldad to Batgirl! I love when he tries to get her to live her life underground unable to leave for fear of the FBI”#batman has never wronged ANYONE! and don't say prioritizing catching the Joker over his runaway presumed-suicidal kid son#or blaming Dick for Jason's death or trying to sacrifice Cass's chance at a public identity so she can be his soldier full time or Steph#or Helena or making an effort to isolate every one of his kids from their peers (he's overprotective daddy uwu) or#or letting multiple women die in favor of their assaulters or firing Dick in the first place or going out of his way to PROTECT the Joker#“Jason's the only problem child who makes him act like this” so I am excluding every thing he did wrong to RH Jason to humor that bs#this isn't even about Jason the ever-understanding version of Bruce you imagine simply does not exist outside of maybe DCAU cartoons!#dc comics#I'm not tagging this as Bruce for obvious reasons but I'm not anti Bruce for real#and I'm not saying “urrrrgh Batman hitting his kids is fine actually”#I'm saying “Batman would NEVER! He kisses them tenderly on the forehead every night and reassures them he loves them” is just so untrue#just saw something tagged with “bruce wayne critical” which feels much more accurate than “anti bruce wayne” so I'll use that!#bruce wayne critical#I'm not anti him this is just kinda unflattering commentary on how we interpret his character sometimes

Von Zarovich siblings
We have Strahd (23), Svetlana (25), Stanimir and Slavko (16), Sasha (12), and Sergei (5)
Background/headcanon under the cut:
So, admittedly a LOT of this is is just gonna be PURE speculation/projection from me, but hey, canon has One (1) Sibling set in stone and the rest is fair game. May this change if I learn more about him? Possibly, but my DM hasn't told me any of this doesn't fit so we'll keep it.
In my head, their mother had her first child at around 17/18, which was Svetlana, and then basically IMMEDIATELY after her husband was VERY keen to get a son, and so Strahd was born soon after. The twins were born a few years later, but tbh I reckon their father as the kind of man who still wanted to have as many heirs as possible just in case the first one dies or fucks up, so there may have been a couple of unsuccessful pregnancies along the way. Poor Lady Von Zarovich. She needs a cane to walk before she's 40 (what's that another reason for Strahd to subconsciously fear aging and the passing of time no waaaay)
I don't think any of these kids were particularly close with each other, the Zarovich household doesn't feel like a family that encourages outward signs of affection and I don't think it comes naturally to them (and when it does, it's discouraged, either purposefully or inadvertently). Sasha's the most sensitive, a quiet girl who just wants to avoid being in trouble.
Despite this lack of closeness, Svetlana was very much the Eldest Daughter and felt (and was made to) the need to look out for her younger siblings. In fact, she's the reason this painting exists; it was taken in the build-up to her wedding, as this would be the last time she and all her siblings would be back home together in one place. It's the happiest any of them have ever looked in a portrait.
On several occasions, the few times she saw him, she tried to offer to introduce Strahd to some nice noble ladies for him to settle down and marry. After all, as the eldest son, it first fell to him to continue the Zarovich name, right? But he always brushed her off, saying that could wait, his first priority was military conquest, he had time. In fact, tell you what Lana, after he's taken over this latest valley, THEN he'll let you find him a bride. It's just a small little valley, easy to conquer, surely these dusk elves won't prove too much trouble? We'll save those details for another post.
In fact, she helped find partners for all her siblings. Sure, 'love' was never a priority, but she felt more confident she could find them a suitable partner who they'd ALSO like and be cared for, not just letting political alliances take priority. That's her responsibility, as the eldest.
All the boys were expected to achieve greatness, and they mostly went for military prowess. Slavko in particular excelled, very confident in that one day he may even surpass his older brother. After all, whilst a mighty warrior, Strahd always preferred the role of tactician, of planning, of strategy. Not Slavko, he was straight in there with a sword, ready to fight whoever and whatever. His twin, though, was better suited to diplomacy. He was slighter, weaker, but cleverer. In another time, these two would have been the ones to have something of a Cain and Abel relationship....however, that never came to be. Slavko died on the battlefield shortly after he turned 30 (even if he didn't our boy Strahd blew them out of the water like GODDAMN DUDE)
Sasha fell ill in her mid 30s, and she too tragically passed away, her daughters and older sister by her side. A sister who watched too many of her siblings die before their time.
Svetlana lived a long life, raised her two sons well, but carried the heavy weight of her family's tragedy for the rest of her days. Stanimir, too, lived a good life, but even after having his own heirs, there was a melancholy relief that the Zarovich name soon faded out after their time. It carried far too much with it.
#curse of strahd#strahd von zarovich#smol makes art#three people wanted to see this and tbh that was enough for me vghbj if u sad u like my CoS i love you forever#this is all rambling and i feel like i have more to say but idk how to connect it????? i really put Svetlana through it#i feel like she always kind of blamed herself. not sure what she could have done but she always wondered. maybe she shouldve#found him a wife sooner. maybe she shouldve raised him better. maybe she couldve protected Sergei. probably not but it didnt stop her#also a small thing; idk why but ive got it in my head that Strahd is the only one she ever referred to as 'brother' whilst calling the othe#by name and he too called only her 'sister'. you know like 'be serious brother' 'oh trust me sister'. idk but it feels significant#maybe because i put them the closest in age? like she's older than all of them but her younger siblings were like kids.#she was already grown when Sergei was born and an older child when the others came along. but she and Strahd are barely 2 years apart#so they got to be closer as siblings. and dgmw there were moments of tenderness across the whole bunch. moments here and there#Strahd called Sasha 'little one' when he was around but he especially was always off conquering territory in the family name#he wasnt around when the youngest came along so he was even less connected. maybe it made hating Sergei easier#do you think this is how he remembers them? do you think he remembers at all? do you think he knows the grief he caused?#do you think he knows that he was loved once? do you think he'd care?#tragic siblings hours WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

#andor#star wars#colonel draven#mon mothma#bail organa#I think one of the interesting things about andor and rogue one is how much it shows mon mothma trying to strike a balance#a balance between being a leader and active participant while also ensuring that others are involved/committed and informed enough#to also make decisions and lead#partly so that she isn't doing it on her own and partly because she has seen the starkest alternative - palpatine and the empire#and I think people really overlook or don't think about how much that is constantly in the background for her#seeing how the republic got warped and twisted and dominated and becoming the empire all because of one man's will and influence#and so she has to be careful when she does exercise her authority and influence#and she doesn't always get it completely right! she sometimes errs too much on the side of caution!#the meeting with the alliance council earlier in the episode when first being told about luthen's intel being a prime example#she could have been more vocal and pushed back more (but also would it have mattered? or would she have spent capital she might need later?#but in a moment like this with bail organa and with colonel draven backing her up...she can be more assertive because of their relationship#sorry but I just think she's so fascinating and it's moments like these#the expanded universe goes into this with her and it was so interesting - the fear from people like garm bel iblis that she's a dictator#only to know that she was always watching out for that herself#and that she also only took certain leadership burdens on because she didn't want others to be blamed if they failed

A crazy thing about Mouthwashing is that Pony Express lost communication with one of its freighters for months and didn’t send anyone to check.
A genuinely reputable company, or at the very least a decent one, would have sent someone, something out to check after about two weeks of silence. Two months is when the crew start questioning if they are even being looked for which implies they were already expecting it to take a while cause P.E just doesn’t care.
They don’t care about who they hire. They don’t care about the conditions they place their crew in or how safe the safety measures actually are. They just don’t care, made rules and regulations so they can care less and succeed in getting away with it with how little those ideas are discussed.
#back on remembering how little blame we give P.E very the real organizational problems that led to the interpersonal ones#there’s many facets to talk about MW in but it’s that people really down play the working class factor and that everyone on the ship are no#too far off from each other and you have to incorporate that into how things play out like the false prestige of being captain and curly#exudes creates this inflated idea he had unlimited capabilities to do much more when it’s clear he is ruled by the same restrictions just a#a slightly different angle same way Swansea as the mechanic can’t fix a vent not because it’s likely difficult but because he just lacks th#rescources and constant clearances needed so it’s a stagnant task#same way even when Anya gets to do nurse stuff it’s limited by what she is given#it’s all reflective about what they have to work with not being enough not even being barely enough#both on an aspect of actual tangible problems and subjective issues#something something boss makes a dollar the crew makes a dime curly makes a quarter and they all still struggle to stay above water#idk it’s very important and interesting and more tragic to me that they were all in the same bubble but their perceptions of each other and#priorities made them walk each other off and feel levels of resentment that should have been towards P.E like how Curly mainly resents them#but the others clearly take it to a more personal level like he got fired with them#is at the same point of starting over with nothing cause all his experience is worthless in a dying job field and all he got was papers tha#say he’s great at a role no one wants except for the one guy that forced him to exit#all of it for nothing all those years for nothing and he didn’t get to choose#I think it’s interesting that people assume curly got what he wanted when he wanted a choice in his future to continue as is or change just#because they feed so heavily into the birthday argument where a projecting Jimmy says Curly got what he wanted when curly corrects him ther#saying what he wanted was a life he didn’t have to escape from being forced out of something isn’t escape if you have no where to go or#everyone got to kinda make a choice whether we consider Jimmy crashing the ship or Anya telling Jimmy and later killing herself#curly being trapped feels so minimal cause it’s hard to recognize how he’s caged in by being the in between of the head and the crew he can#move freely through either as he has the power of boss to them and subordinate to the other he has to do what the company says to an extent#and hopefully mitigate anything the crew might do and the ‘perks’ of being captain are just different leashes he’s on with the crew and P.E#it’s like so hard to understand when you aren’t used to working in these type environments or have been in similar organizational power#structures but the crew being on the same sort of economic scale and class is so important to why and how they act the way they do#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#pony express#curly mouthwashing#captain curly
