Endos / endogenics and why they aren't valid :
We've made posts on this before but we decided it might be good to make one big post to link to for when / if anyone asks again. We tried to cover everything we could in this post but we'll likely be making other posts similar to this later on.
So what are endos? Endos or endogenics are people who claim to have DID/OSDD without trauma or claim to have alters / be a system without having DID/OSDD.
Why is this bad? This is misinformation because as far as science knows DID/OSDD is a trauma based disorder (specifically caused by trauma in early childhood, which is speculated to be 1-9 / 1-12 years old) and your brain would not split / create alters without reason. You cannot have alters without having a disorder, this is common sense as it's not normal to have alters. To add onto this endos also take over our communities and steal our terms. (We'll make a post with further information on that in the future).
There is also a carrd that explains why endos are bad and debunks a few myths if anyone is interested in it! If not continue reading
Why can't you have DID/OSDD or alters without trauma? As far as science knows DID/OSDD is a trauma disorder and in order to have alters in the first place you require dissociation, which is also a trauma ((or stress)) response. Here are tons of medically reviewed sources that say this:
“ They suggest that DID is caused by experiencing severe trauma over a long time in childhood. By experiencing trauma in childhood, you take on different identities and behaviours to protect yourself. As you grow up these behaviours become more fully formed until it looks like you have different identities ” — rethink.org
“ Dissociative identity disorder (DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder, is a complex psychological condition caused by many things. These include severe trauma during early childhood (usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse). It's also known as split personality disorder. ” — webMD
“ DID is usually associated with adverse experiences in someone’s past and traumatic memories. ” & “ Dissociation — a major part of DID — is a defense mechanism the body uses to reduce your awareness during overwhelming trauma ” — pysch central
“ DID is associated with long-term exposure to trauma, often chronic traumatic experiences during early childhood. ” & “ Dissociation—or disconnection from one’s sense of self or environment—can be a response to trauma. It can happen during a single-incident, traumatic event (e.g., an assault, a natural disaster, or a motor vehicle accident), or during ongoing trauma (e.g., wartime; chronic childhood abuse). ” — mcleanhospital.org
“ Dissociative disorders often develop as a way to deal with a catastrophic event or with long-term stress, abuse or trauma. This is particularly true if such events take place early in childhood. At this time of life, there are limitations to your ability to fully understand what’s happening. In addition, your coping mechanisms aren’t fully developed and getting support and resources depends on the presence of caring and knowledgeable adults. ” — my.clevelandclinic.org
“ There are many possible causes of dissociative disorders, including previous traumatic experience. ” & “ Switching off from reality is a normal defence mechanism that helps the person cope during a traumatic time. ” — nhs.uk
“ Dissociative identity disorder is the result of a natural way of coping with childhood trauma. Our page on the causes of dissociative disorders has more information. ” & “ Dissociation is a natural response to trauma while it's happening. But some of us may still experience dissociation long after the traumatic event has finished. Past experiences of dissociation during traumatic events may mean that you haven't processed these experiences fully. ” — mind.org (two links since they're two different pages)
“ Dissociative disorders usually start as a way to cope with shocking, distressing or painful events. The disorders most often form in children who go through long-term physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Less often, the disorders form in children who've lived in a home where they went through frightening times or they never knew what to expect. The stress of war or natural disasters also can bring on dissociative disorders. When you go through an event that's too much to handle emotionally, you may feel like you're stepping outside of yourself and seeing the event as if it's happening to another person. Mentally escaping in this way may help you get through a shocking, distressing or painful time. ” — mayoclinic.org
Most of these sources are pretty recent too, with the most recent one being made in September 2023 (webMD)
What about religious beliefs / tuplamacy? First people are not required to believe or participate in your religious beliefs (and religious beliefs are not exempt from criticism) and second tuplamacy is a closed Buddhist practice that has nothing to do with being a system and should not be compared to being a system nor should it be included / involved in system communities. Note that the DSM-V also says that in order to have DID; "The disturbance is not a normal part of a broadly accepted cultural or religious practice." <- this does not mean it's possible to have alters due to a religious thing, if anything it says they cannot be counted as alters / as a system.
To add on, no you cannot pray to be a system or transition into being a system. If you were to pray and one day magically become a system you are either in denial or you've convinced yourself you're something you're not. Believing you can be a system without trauma or that you can become a system by praying is like believing you can get autism from vaccines or drinking too much dairy milk, that's just not how it works.
What about mixed origin systems? Mixed origin systems are not a thing. DID/OSDD forms purely from trauma, you can't form from a mix of trauma and not trauma, that's not how it works. If you identify as mixed origin you are likely in denial and really need to come to terms with the fact that you are either traumatized or you're not a system at all.
What about other kinds of origins? Other origins like "willowgenic" and all that bullshit? Yeah no, same thing as endos, not possible. Look above for all the proof you need, DID/OSDD is only caused by trauma. Traumagenic is the only valid origin.
But I gave myself DID! / But I created my own alters! No you didn't. That isn't possible, you cannot turn yourself into a DID/OSDD system and creating alters is a coping mechanism, not something you do for fun, sources on this;
“ DID Isn't Something You Can Give Yourself on Purpose. Having DID was not a conscious decision those of us with the disorder made when we were children. Dissociative identity disorder is not a selective disorder, meaning you cannot decide that you want to develop this brilliant coping mechanism and then you have it. ” — healthyplace
“ In any case, additional alters are usually the result of extreme stress. The mind does not like to be fractured even when an individual already has DID or OSDD-1. Many individuals cannot split unless a split is strictly necessary for their protection, functioning, or ability to remain hidden as a system. That said, there are exceptions. Some individuals may become so used to using splitting as a coping mechanism that they may split easily in response to seemingly minor stressors. ” — didresearch.org
Isn't being a system like the same as being trans or being LGBTQ? No, many endos compared the two but they are completely different. Being LGBTQ is an identity, it's something you are born as. Being a system is a debilitating disorder caused by severe trauma, it is counted as a disability which is;
“ 'A person has a disability if: They have a physical or mental impairment, and the impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on the person's ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.' ” — gmc.org
The reason DID would be counted as a disability is that;
“ Having a dissociative disorder can affect your ability to keep a full-time job, especially one with work stresses, which can worsen your symptoms. ” — disabilitysecrets
And the DSM-V criteria literally says;
“ The symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning ” — traumadissociation
But the DSM-V says that trauma isn't required! No, the DSM-V actually says CSA isn't required, there are other forms of trauma that don't involve CSA or child abuse. To act as if it saying that the trauma isn't always CSA or child abuse means that it doesn't require trauma at all is extremely invalidating to those who are traumatized in ways that don't involve child abuse or CSA.
But this source claims endos exist / DID doesn't require trauma! Most of those sources are extremely old and / or made by endos (or pro endos) themselves. (We'll make a more in-depth post on this topic some other time, but for now this is all we have to say on it)
But we don't know everything about the human brain! You're right, we don't. The brain is mysterious, but we do know enough to know that it doesn't do these kinds of things for no reason. We know the brain reacts to trauma and we know what the difference between a normal brain and a disordered brain is. Just because we don't know everything doesn't give people an excuse to jump to conclusions and spread misinformation. It is better to stick to what science currently knows which is the theory of structural dissociation, which is the current theory about how DID/OSDD forms, and so far no one has been able to disprove it. And before someone says it, no it is not only a theory, it is a scientific theory which is;
“ A theory is a well-substantiated explanation of an aspect of the natural world that can incorporate laws, hypotheses and facts. The theory of gravitation, for instance, explains why apples fall from trees and astronauts float in space. Similarly, the theory of evolution explains why so many plants and animals—some very similar and some very different—exist on Earth now and in the past, as revealed by the fossil record. ” — amnh.org
And to add on;
“ Scientists develop theories to explain the natural world and to advance scientific knowledge. A theory is the highest level of explanation in science. Some features of scientific theories are that they: have been thoroughly tested over an extended period, provide accurate explanations and, predictions for a wide range of phenomena, are widely accepted by the scientific community, demonstrate strong experimental and observational support ” — study.com

Expanding more on the Misako was pyschologically tormenting the Sons of Garmadon incorrect quote I posted earlier.
[Misako lays boredly while in her new bedroom prison while listening to Garmadon’s complaints.]
Emperor Garmadon: I have no idea how you keep breaking through my security. But don’t you think it’s time to stop? A second marriage is a partnership Kitten! And you’re leaving me to plan this wedding all by lonesome. At least help me pick out a China pattern!
[Misako sighs and grabs a pillow to squeeze.]
Misako: Well you want me to fit in my wedding dress, don’t you? Assaulting your guards is about the only exercise I get in this place.
Emperor Garmadon: Ah, I’m glad you brought that up actually. You’ve been laying into the poor boys quite a lot. And…well their pysch bills are really starting to add up. Especially dear Luke’s. I don’t know what you have against him specifically. But he’s starting to take it personally.
[Misako grins like the cat who got the cream.]
Misako: Yeah, I go pretty hard with Luke. Is he in today?
[Luke in fear accidentally blabs that he’s guarding the door to Misako’s bedroom prison.]
Luke: Nooooooo! Uh———I mean…..(In feminine voice) Luke’s out sick today. *Laughs nervously*

need validation on my values from a stranger on the internet /lh anon because i dont like being doxxed >:3 i am kinda like. more into psychiatry system reform than abolition. because that can like. work. if we fund psychiatry research and stop underpaying workers, and view psych wards as more. help than containment. and uh. also emphasize diversity in that workplace. and talk about the implicit n explicit biases when it comes to white mentally ill vs others. it can work. or im being delusional. anyway. review my words i beg -silly person.
I'm sorry this is pissing me off but you're probably just new to all this, I will not validate your inherently abusive opinion. Psychiatry reform will not work, it's like prison reform. It will only strengthen it's oppressive regime as reform usually does. For better perspective on that I recommend reading
The First Civil Right How Liberals Built Prison America
and
Are Prisons Obsolete
Psych wards will never be help, which angers me most about this ask. Psych wards will always be a tool of oppression and hiding of those perceived as "not normal" which is a construct built by oppressive psychiatry. Pysch wards are the sword of abuse forced onto psychotic people using forced restraint and forced medication.
Psychiatry at its base creates the concept of insanity and mental disorders to turn away the blame from capitalistic oppression. Those deemed psychotic are silenced by the psychiatric system whenever they attempt to question the abuse psychiatry puts them through. Psychiatry has always been a weapon to push white supremacist rhetoric, examples of this include how homosexuality was pathologized, as was running away from slave owners. A modern example can include oppositional defiant disorder which basically is "if you dont listen to the authorities you're mentally ill".
Here is some sources on anti-psych you should get on to if you plan on starting
also supporting an abusive weapon like psych wards is not silly, it's abhorrent

Look at the carrd again. It DOES contain sources...
They are just all irrelevant (e.g. DID research, not endogenic research) or untrustworthy. Also, the debunking myth section is ironically not busting myths. It just makes claims (#4 is just factually wrong. A blind woman was able to see when some alters fronted.). The carrd is truly a sorry excuse of an attempt to disprove the existence of endogenic systems.
Oh right! I forgot! It sources that one pysch student's DID website! 🤣
Yeah, their links are just bad!
Another thing about the whole mythbusting section is that a lot of those don't even seem to be "endo" claims. Like, why would "persecutors are evil" be coming from endogenic systems when endogenic usually don't have persecutors? (It can happen but it's rare.)

Pysche is my escape from reality <3 Whenever I need a break from reality, I turn to Psyche's username on Tumblr. Her fics are nothing short of amazing, and reading them is my favourite thing to do during recess or free time. She's been my inspiration ever since we became friends, and she's my first moot. Our friendship is reminiscent of Sunghoon and Jungwon's bond in Enhypen 😻 and I'm always there to protect her and attack anyone who dares to hurt her. That's why I'm like Sunghoon, hehee. I can't begin to describe how much she means to me, and I still can't believe how happy I was when Psyche followed me back and wanted to be friends. It's been a year already, but I'm still over the moon about it 🥹🥹🤍🤍

I feel incredibly lucky to have Joo in my life. She's not just a friend but a source of comfort for me. Joo and I have a special bond that I truly cherish. Our friendship is unique and beautiful in its own way. While she may see us Jakewon as a great match, I think that Soobin and Beomgyu would be the perfect match for us. They too share a special bond of comfort, just like us. One thing that I love about our friendship is the perfect balance of comfort and chaos. We can share our deepest fears and worries with each other, but at the same time, we can be silly and crazy together. In fact, we often find ourselves sharing similar interests and obsessions. For example, we both have a special spot for Sunghoon. 😍

I absolutely adore Lily, she is like an angel to me. Our friendship is so special, and I cherish it deeply. We can talk about anything and everything, and it never gets dull or boring. I feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life, as she is not just my friend but also my safe place. Our friendship reminds me of the bond between Jake and Jungwon, who were our biases. I love how our friendship is giving Jakewon - it's just so beautiful. For instance, Jake always called Jungwon a baby kitten, and Lily calls me a baby. Although I pretend to be annoyed, I secretly love it when she babies me. It's just so cute. No, what. It's a lie y'all
I also love how Lily is teaching me Chinese, just like Jake teaches Jungwon Aussie slang. It's like we are experiencing the same things, but in different languages. It's so heartwarming that we have such a strong connection, and we appreciate it so much. I find it so adorable that our names are so similar - Mizu and Mira. It's like we were meant to be friends 🥺 I cannot express how much I love our friendship, and I hope it lasts forever, hehe.
Tumblr only allows 10 pictures per post, so I'll be making a sequel for the rest of my pictures. Can't leave any of my friends behind 😔😠

Yes it's fine, the idea is just to have your left & right side energies cross over in many ways, that's why you cross your legs and arms. There are other methods that use similar crossing over but use different body positions, like this one known as the "Wayne Cook posture" does the same thing as psych k

Throwing in fun (not fun) facts to contribute esp bc I was tagged in the essay: (Sorry in advance this is literally my career and special interest AND I just got back from a training conference about this SO obv I am going to talk too much. Disclosure: These statistics are from peer-reviewed sources AND the National Children's Alliance. The NCA IS an American association, though, so take this all with a grain of salt bc we're applying it to someone whose bg is not American lmao. This is an essay for funsies. CW: discussion of and stats about CSA, Child Abuse) Relevant to the Jo stuff is also that victims of one/any kind of abuse are statistically much more likely to subsequently face overlapping abuse, so knowing he comes from a home where abuse and potential neglect was actively occurring sets Jo-boy up for some sad statistics. I am looking for my notes on the stats for that but it's something stupid high, I wanna say over 30 or 40%.
Additionally, 47%~ of CSA victims are revictimized. Abysmal statistic but mostly just an interesting note if this IS the case/if we choose to interpret Jo this way bc of the other things mentioned in Masu's ask, specifically if we're viewing his unhealthy and ultimately traumatic relationship with Ikumi as a potential example of that revictimization (similarly, coming from a like background, it may have been revictimizing for Ikumi if she had ever experienced something like CSA, as well. It's one of those cases where they both got hurt even if neither of them were at fault for "playing house" as Jo calls it).
Seconding/Adding on to Masu's thoughts about Jo's behavior being as self-destructive as it is because of the compounded trauma of his life, victims of adolescent abuse "engage in health-risk behaviors such as substance use, physical fighting, and risky sexual activity," in far higher numbers than non-victims. We know for facts that adolescent Jo checks at least 2 of those 3 boxes, and that he still puts himself in unnecessary danger as a full grown adult (the Heian Tower fight, and Hoshino's Office fight): An interesting and well-written cycle of trauma and abuse on RGGs part, tbh, but also so narratively telling about how he saw/sees/continues to see himself as more an object than a person. (Love your notes on that btw, it rings very true. I could write an essay on that alone tbh.)
Another weird little thing I notice from both a Doyalist AND Watsonian perspective: Jo's disclosure of his father's abuse would classify as what we call an "accidental disclosure" in the field even though it's clearly intentional that he shares it with Ichi - it's offhanded and markedly unimportant in the story he's telling. He says it passively in a literary sense, as well: "The only thing waiting for me at home was my father's fists." Like homie, that's the most roundabout way you could have said "My dad beat me." Interestingly, up to 50% of [specifically CSA] victims do not state outright that abuse occurs, but disclose it accidentally/offhandedly; and in general, accidental disclosure is more common among people who have also delayed disclosure. Up to 66% of admissions from victims of child abuse come delayed if they come at all.
I think it's a very in-character remark of him to make, but statistically, it lines up with other victims of abuse as a whole. I think it's also just cool that from the Doyalist perspective, writing his lines in this way was intentional. It's part of the whole "Everything Jo says sounds like it could mean more than one thing" thing. He speaks poetically - it's intentional not just for the character but for the writer.
Okay, I'm done for now I'm sorry I just wanted to throw some added stuff into the convo bc I love applying my everyday usage of adolescent-focused trauma care and pysch shit to blorbos and seeing what sticks. Anyway, I also have a shit ton of thoughts on Masumi Arakawa as an abuse survivor but THATS another essay I won't dig into now. If I am still in your good graces after this long ass spiel I will consider it not only amazing but perhaps even cool as hell.

Not At All with these types of asks LMAO CAUSE EVIDENTLY a lot of effort is done by you guys#and i appreciate it a lot so thank you again for writing in#arakawa as an abuse survivor is something i think of a lot and remembering his abuse as a child shines light on his actions and mentality#so i mean if you wanna share your thoughts on that go ahead ! just know. i prob will Also not have a lot to add on to it LMAO#LIKE THE BEST WAY I CAN INTERPRET MY LINGUISTIC INEPTITUDE IS JUST ME LISTENING my sister tells me i listen really well#and i do enjoy listening. because again im not smart enough to think of things on my own or i dont think its worth sharing some things#so always happy to read whatever you want to share

Navigating A Flawed Mental Health Dialogue in India
Religion, Politics & Mental Health Mental health challenges are not new to humanity, even if the nature and triggers for those challenges have changed. Civilisations had different ways to cope with these cracks in our pysche. Religion was one of the primary spaces, being that it is the most common source of reassurance, hope & belonging. Unfortunately (and perhaps for the same reason), religion

I never lied. You asked me for a source and I gave you one. You refused to accept my source. You're not interested in reading Hannah Barnes book. You don't understand the significance of the Travistock clinic in the Cass Review. What is the point of sharing sources if you aren't even going to bother reading them? The best you got is slandering me by calling me a liar. You remind me of the LGBT activists who leave unhinged reviews on Abigail Shrier's books caring her a "Nazi" or saying she wants to deny kids "medical care".
You tried to debunk my claim that foster kids are overrepresented in gender clinics only to provide a source of your own which proved exactly that and then you claimed that trans ID kids indeed are overrepresented in foster care but its because they've been transphobically abused by their parents.
The point of foster kids being overrepresented in gender clinics seems to go over your head time and time again. Nobody is denying that trans identified youth in foster care experience abuse. The issue here is how adverse childhood experiences like abuse can influence disassociation and identity issues. That is a very significant point because "gender affirming care" is not reversible. Clinicians were found to be ignoring histories of trauma and fast tracking minors into irreversible hormone therapy and surgical treatments. That is extremely unethical. That is the entire point that people like Hannah Barnes and myself are trying to make.
"you adopted the cause of foster kids to cover up the fact that you are really here to attack trans people"
Me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me
Do you people seriously think of anybody but yourselves? You people are so narcissistic it's not even funny. As if I don't have a life outside of being some kind of symbol of inclusion and tolerance for the LGBT community.
The fact that you accused me of lying about being a former foster kid because I disagree with mutilating foster kids is insane. I think it says a lot about your pysche that you think I would make up an entire identity to attack a certain demographic.
youtube
Transgender former foster child Jenn Smith calls for a national inquiry into the mass transitioning of foster children.
According to the Cass Report (in the UK), foster kids made up 25% of gender clinic referrals when foster kids are only 0.67% of the population. This makes foster kids 37 times more likely to ID as trans than the general population. Yet in Canada and America we don't have data on the number of foster kids who are impacted by gender ideology.
Jenn Smith says that foster kids in particular are vulnerable to transition because foster care rehoming can be particularly traumatic and result in identity issues.
We already know that autistic and same sex attracted individuals are more likely to identify as trans. The link between foster care and gender identity seems to be less known, even among gender critical circles.
