focus on the likes and not the wants
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you may not want to clean your room, but you like the peace and call it brings you after
you may not want to study, but you like the confidence and satisfaction you get from being prepared
you may not not want to apologise, but you like the relief and connection that reconciliation brings
you may not want to cook, but you like the satisfaction of eating a healthy come cooked meal prepared with love
you may not want to exercise, but you like how you feel afterwards and how it makes you confident
you may not want to journal or write, but you like the reflection and calm it brings you
you may not want to step out of your comfort zone, but you like the new experiences and growth you gain from it

the only tolerable thing about summer is that everything is lush green — thankfully my apartment is under the shade of a chestnut tree.

you don’t need perfect conditions to start. you just need to start. five minutes of focus is better than waiting for motivation to come.

june 3rd / coffee shop study day
completed a whole topic for my italy exam on friday, which i’m not too sure how i feel about. it’s a lot of content (obvi) but it’s just sooo overwhelming. i still have to complete 3 topics, which is too many flashcards to count.
i got a fair amount done, but i need to start focusing on my politics exam on thursday. i never really feel prepared for exams, but im hoping thats just the nerves. im going to do a massive politics day tomorrow, and then try and do a bit of history as well (hopefully)
the coffee was a solid 8/10. i had a bit too much ice in it and it went so watery, but it still did what it needed to do (taste good and give me energy)

gentle reminder you can rise up from everything. you can recreate yourself. nothing is permanent. you are not stuck. you have choices. you can think new thoughts. you can learn something new. you can create new habits. all that matters is that you decide today and never look back.

"Your curiosity is not out of your control. You decide how to orient it—and that orientation will determine the rest of your life." → Emphasizes intentional, self-directed learning.

one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become
