Mate attraction

A type of tertiary attraction where one feels attracted and interested in talking, having a healthy acquaintanceship with someone, playing together, having fun moments, doing work together, etc. Someone who feels mate attraction is interested in being a colleague to someone, but nothing more profound than that.

People who feel mate or platonic attraction know very well the difference between these two, even if other people think that's the same thing.

Colors: shades of lime are the colors that I associate with having fun moments with mates or colleagues, with energy and happiness.

Redesign of the Analterous flag

Because the current ones have colors meaning alterous attraction and I think we could use a different flag, similar to why Ive redesigned other atertiary spectrum flags.

Orange was chosen to contrast the blue color symbolising alterous attraction crushes in the existing analterous flag, while not resembling any other aspec flag colors too much (afaik).

Helio

This is a term I coined some years ago on twitter. I never got to post it on Tumblr, so I'm posting it here now.

Helio [Orientation]

Helio is a label for anyone who want to express that an orientation of their refers to some kind of eriattraction without having to label their RoSe attraction or without having to depend on it. Useful for those who prioritise some or various forms of eriattraction over one or both RoSe attractions.

For example, a Helio Veldian/Turian would be someone who is a veldian/turian in one or more forms of non-rose attraction that they prioritise, regardless of their RoSe orientations.

It can be combined with several labels, for those who are varioriented/variangled regarding eriattraction.

The anattractional version (for those who priotitise being aspec in one or more forms of eriattraction) is Helio ay/aspec, Helio Athenian, or Helio Nullarian. Helio Zeroic could work for those who are also nonbinary/elsegender.

People get so confused when I try to explain the type/s of attraction I feel. But let me put it like this: I "fall in love" with someone's character. I don't want their body - I want their presence. I don't lust after them - I admire them. I don't want a romantic relationship - I find them fascinating. Interesting. Fun. They challenge and compliment me. They're loyal. They're funny. They're not two-dimensional, they're a well rounded character. I fall in love with someone as a character, as an arc, as a person. As a friend. People seem to read this one of two ways - it's romantic, or it's just platonic and I haven't found the right person yet. *sigh* the definition of platonic is 'deeply affectionate but not romantic in nature'. So yeah, it's platonic. It's deep. It's affectionate. It's not romantic. It's just as good though, so can we stop saying 'just'?

Like, you know when people have gay panics? I want that, and frequently experience it, but in a platonic way. As in, wow what you did was really impressive/intersting I want to get to know you and spend time with you kind of way. Not in a wow I want to kiss you way. Someday I want to meet someone in a bookshop and 'flirt' with them or whatever allos seem to think it is, and get their phone number. And then, instead of asking them to see a movie as a date, I'll ask them to come and eat pop corn with my friends and watch a movie because I think they'll find it interesting. Make no mistake - I'm aroace, but I still want my meet cute. I want a platonic meet cute where I find someone, who's character is so full and interesting and bursting with life that I get their number and send them memes and geek out with them, and get to know them and admire them until we feel comfortable around each other. I just want to live with someone. To read together, watch tv shows together, listen to music together, go to the theatre together, without them being considered 'dates'. Because I don't want them because I want their body. I want them in my life because I like their character.

And if you think about it, I'm very lucky in this way. Because, while not everyone has a super-model body, the vast majority of individuals are so bursting with life that I am very, very, likely to find people, many people, whose character I love. To be honest, I've already found plenty. But, ever the "optimist", I hope I find more :)

Tidalic & Lunaric Attraction

Tidalic attraction is a type of attraction that describes being drawn to someone the way the ocean is drawn to the moon. Like waves crashing against the shore, trying to get high enough just to touch or be near the object of their desire/obsession/etc.

Lunaric attraction is a type of attraction that describes wanting to draw someone in the way the moon draws the tides. Like the moon pulling the ocean higher and higher, longing for the slim chance of ever truly connecting.

Never tried to make a flag like this before, but my flags have started to feel so same-y. I wanted to try something different here.

i have to admit, i’m not really a big fan of all these microlabels oriented aroaces/aros who experience some kind of attraction that’s not romantic in nature. to me, it just reeks of this endless obsession to categorize things and shove them into perfectly little defined boxes, which, surprise surprise, is what society does with attraction all the time! and for me, a huge part of accepting my aro identity was going “hey, fuck all these boxes, i feel what i feel and i dont need to define it.” like, that was so freeing to me. i realized i didn’t need to fret over if i actually did experience romantic attraction or not or if it was some kind of other, “tertiary” (can we talk about that word? because that word has some weird implications i don’t like) attraction because it didn’t matter. either way, the attraction i feel doesn’t fit the boxes of what society thinks attraction has to be. and that’s fine. that’s the point.

now, this is not me saying microlabels are trash and you can’t use them at all, no. this is me saying that, hey, you can just breathe. you don’t have to perfectly define and microlabel your attraction if you don’t want to. you can just let it be.

not great. it's very amatonormative as it literally creates a hierarchy of attraction with sexual and romantic being at the top and everything else being kinda over there. i would love to know whether sexual or romantic attraction is "primary attraction" but i feel like i know the answer.

like, it very much doesn't represent how i experience things as tertiary attraction is the main kind of attraction i experience.

It’s coining time, babyy!

Felibond: an alteraffectis attraction label that describes the relationship between pair-bonded cats or the bond between a domestic cat and their owner.

Flag with and without symbol:

I divided the seven stripes into three sections with the white lines so it would be easier to modify for oriented versions of felibond attraction. Other than that, I just tried to combine the catkin and alteraffectis flags in a way that looked good, so the colors don’t have any meaning.
