You'd think you would have figured it out, seeing as the streets and windows were littered with more flowers, and pink and red foil hearts than any other time of year. But your mind never paused on Valentines Day for longer than a couple seconds. So it was not as obvious to you as it was to some, that Valentines Day was just around the corner.

Before Eliot, you never had a partner who seemed to care enough to romance you on the hallmark holiday.

You'd say you didn't care, that you didn't need chocolates, flowers or fancy dinners, but you always wanted, at least once, to know what it was like. The topic came up once, before you and Eliot had dated, but you never thought it would have stuck in his mind.

Turning at the sound of someone walking up behind you, your eyes immediately landed on the bouquet of dark red roses in Eliot's hand.

He had a soft smile on his face as he handed them to you.

You felt your heart leap in your chest as a grin spread across your face.

"Wow." You muttered out as you took them.

Eliot was not averse to buying you flowers, but there was always a reason. Even if that reason was just to see you smile.

You locked eyes with him. "Thank you Eliot."

He smiled a bit bigger as you smelled them, closing your eyes momentarily as the scent wafted over you.

"What are these for?" You asked softly.

Eliot's face fell into confusion for a second before he let out a soft chuckle "Valentines Day."

Seeing the confusion cross your face, before realization took over, Eliot almost laughed. Beneath the humor though, he had to admit, he felt a bit angry, that you had become so used to not experiencing this, that it slipped your mind entirely. The anger was of course not at you, but those who failed to show you proper appreciation in your relationships.

You deserved more than that. But he was glad he was with you now so he could show you everything they failed too.

"Oh." You said with realization as you looked over at the calendar. "Is it that time already?"

Suddenly you felt a circus of thoughts and motions bubble over as you looked back at Eliot.

"I didn't realize. I didn't get you anything."

Eliot, used to this side of you, gently rested his hands on your shoulders.

"You don't need to get me anything Y/n. I don't need anything except you, coming with me, to have some dinner. That's all I want."

As he smiled sweetly at you, you felt a sense of comfort wash over you. He always had a great way of calming you.

You looked back at the flowers and smiled softly "I've never had a Valentine before."

He smiled "Yeah, well you do now." Leaning forward, he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead before placing a second kiss to your lips.

Pulling away, he slipped his hand into yours and began to lead you out of the doors of the Leverage office.

"And those flowers ain't the only thing I got you."

"Oh no." You said with realization.

"Oh yes."

"But I didn't get you anything! Eliot!" You whined, making him chuckle.

Squeezing your hand a little tighter as he pulled you along, he smiled to himself. As soon as he knew your first Valentines Day as a couple was coming up, he made plan after plan to shower you with the gifts and traditions of the holiday you never had anyone care to share with you before.

Just a lil something for our special captain, inspired by that gorgeous official art of him with the white rose. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

Every year for Valentine’s Day, Levi has gifted you a rose.

A beautiful shade of red, with soft petals and tiny thorns that nearly prick your finger, and when you do for the hundredth time he’s always there to patch you up, before slipping the culprit into a little vase of water. Always warning you to be careful, to not go hurting yourself when he can’t always be there to protect you.

It’s become a tradition at this point; gifts will change between the two of you with every new year. Tea leaves, new books, maybe even a new cleaning solution that caught Levi’s eye. But that silly red rose stays the same, a testament of your relationship and dedication to each other. Always waiting for you when you return home, either in a vase on the table or in his hand with the thorns brushing against his wrist.

But this year there’s no rose in sight. Nothing on the table, the counter, not even in your bedroom. It’s best not to dwell on it, it’s no big deal at the end of the day. But it’s hard to ignore the ache in your chest, the lingering feeling that maybe you were the only one who saw such significance in the tiny red flower.

So silly, you chastise yourself with a shake of your head and wait for your lover to return home.

And he does, treating you to dinner at one of your favorite restaurants, a quiet walk through the city before heading back to your shared apartment for a movie night. You change into a pair of comfortable pajamas, set up a movie in the living room, and ask Levi if there’s any leftover chocolate in the kitchen from earlier—

Suddenly he’s standing there, in the middle of the kitchen, a rose clasped between his fingers. But it lacks the red petals you’ve come to love over the last few years you’ve spent with him. Instead this one is a lovely shade of white, it’s silky petals a stark contrast to the prickly thorns below.

“Levi...”

“Just to change it up,” he mumbles, all but shoving the flower into your chest. Your fingers tremble as you hold it, careful of the thorns below. “Don’t prick yourself with it, you hear me?”

Your chest swells, and suddenly it’s hard to look him in the eye. “You...remembered?”

He scoffs, “You really think I’d forget? I know how much you love those shitty flowers. But I think I’ll get you some white ones once in a while.”

You want to ask him why, but it’s not important now. You reach up to kiss him on the cheek, and he returns it with a kiss against your forehead.

“Thank you, Levi.”

“Don’t mention it, brat. Now come on, you wanted to have a movie night, didn’t you?”

You’re all too eager to agree, taking him by the hand and leading him to the living room—white rose and leftover chocolate in tow. And you know it’s too far ahead in the future to think about, perhaps not even possible at all...

But you’re starting to think the little white rose might not look so bad to have on your wedding day.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Akutagawa knows he is to blame for your injury; no matter how You — his long time crush — try to convince him. But that won’t stop him from tending to you when you are hurt.

“Are you sure you aren’t hurting.” For some reason his statement didn’t seem to be a question, but a direct sentence; as if demanding you that it was in fact hurting and you were going to blame him for your suffering.

“I’m okay; Akutagawa. You need to—” “I need to what? Start lying to myself?”

You gave him a look while tending to your wound and his aura seemed to darken. He crossed his arms with his mind drifting away. “I’m not about to do that. I’m not going to turn into your superior; I’m not about to turn into Dazai.” “I didn’t say you needed to.”

You breathed in sharply with a flinch. The alcohol had soaked into your wound to disinfect it. The gash was nothing; at least compared to what could have been but that didn’t stop it from hurting like hell or Akutagawa from walking over. “Just, let me do it.” And although he mumbled, you heard his tone soak in dominance.

So you let him; his tone may have let on he would be rough, assertive; but his touch was the opposite of those two things. As though he was handling fine china. “You’re so annoying.”

“Oh, really? You don’t enjoy my suffering?”

“That’s not funny. You know how I feel— about—”

You knew what he was trying to say by the way his body language was closing himself off, “You’re trying to say I know how you feel about someone from the ADA. How you feel about me. Don’t you want to say it; that you’re in love with me?”

Your teasing tone caused him to squeeze lightly onto your hand once slipping underneath. “I do,” And just when you thought he had a ounce of romance; “I hate you.”

he always treated you like you were special to him. he dropped you home every day unless he really had somewhere to be. even when he did, he would at least make sure to stay with you till your bus arrived. he didn't have to do that, you had never asked him to do that, but he wanted to.

he packed an extra box of lunch for you when he noticed you weren't bringing healthy meals to school. he would softly place it on your desk every day, and then proceed to sit down on the chair next to you. he didn't have to do that, you had never asked him to do that, but he wanted to.

he would let you cheat off of his paper when you hadn't studied for the test. sure, he could've just waved you off and told you to study next time, but he didn't. he let you copy his answers, and even wrote a few points for a question you were attempting. he didn't have to do that, you had never asked him to do that, but he wanted to.

he was the dream man according to every girl in school. a complete green flag. no wonder his locker would be flooded with love letters on valentine's day. he wouldn't respond to any of those, just quickly scan for one with your name on it. and when he wouldn't find one, he would just smile softly to himself, it's okay, she doesn't have to feel the same way. but he would never give up on you. he was too much in love.

but you felt the same way, didn't you? how could you not fall for him? after how much of a gentleman he had been...after how well he had treated you and never expected anything in return?

so today you decided to ask him, "hey, what do you want from me?"

he almost looked offended for a split second, clearing his throat before he asked you what you meant...

"i mean...y'know, with your birthday tomorrow, what do you want?"

his eyes widened and then immediately went back to the same way they were before, gentle.

"don't say nothing!" you interrupted him before he could say it. as he sighed, you moved closer to him, "i want to...give you something...special..." his eyebrows furrowed and his head snapped towards you, special?

before he could think, his mouth said something that his heart had been dying to say for the past two years..."i want you."

that's all it took for you to lose your composure. you immediately slammed your lips against his, shocking him. as he struggled to understand just what sort of lucid dream he was having, you pulled apart, placing your hand on his cheek, your thumb caressing his lips. "i will give you whatever you want, just ask for it."

and you could see him contemplating his next words, before he dropped his head low, taking your hands in his when he looked up. "give me a chance to let me show you..." as he placed a soft kiss on your hand, "just how much i love you."

and you gave him that chance. obviously...why else would you be on his bed right now, with your ankles buried between his shoulder blades as he rutted into you.

now don't get confused, he didn't just fuck you like this. first, he made love to you, let you know how much you mean to him and how thankful he is. then, he said, he wanted to give you something special this time. he didn't have to do that, you had never asked him to do that, but he wanted to.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞: 𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐧. 𝟑𝟕 𝐬𝐞𝐜.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Kunikida’s heart stopped when he saw you with his notebook in his hands. Did you see what he had written about you? Why did he have to be so foolish and leave it behind; and how can he find out how you feel about him?

Kunikida’s head went dizzy, fuzzy and light. He was going to pass out. You were in front of his desk, stood with his notebook in your hands.

He opened his mouth to say something, to stop you, but nothing came out. He wasn’t sure if it was because of your overwhelming beauty; the way the sunlight peeked through the uncovered windows of the office or the way that you looked over to him and smiled. But he kept coming up empty handed.

“Kunikida, sorry. I wasn’t trying to snoop or anything. Dazai just told me you could help me out with something.” You had an awkward smile and Kunikida cleared his throat, walking over towards his desk and taking his book from you.

His heart beat pounded when his fingers grazed yours for a short moment; and he stuttered, “Did you read anything interesting?”

“I didn’t read your soulmate list if that is what you are worried about. I have some self control. Even if I was a little curious.” Your confident smile lessened the burden he felt on his back. At least you didn’t find out this way; the most anti-romantic way imaginable. He would have never forgiven himself for being so foolish.

“So, Kunikida..” “Yes, what is it?”

“Is it true that anything you write in your notebook comes to fruition?” Kunikida scratched the side of his head while he adjusted his glasses with one hand; trying to calm himself down. Why were you asking this so suddenly? “Well, in some sort of capacity; yes, but there’s some conditions. For example, the pages only create nonliving objects and it can’t create anything larger than this book here.”

“So, you could make something for me?”

“Of course!” Kunikida cleared his throat when his words came out in too much of a hurry, too eager. What is wrong with him. But that made you laugh with your hand reaching out and touching the back of his hand. “Thank you..”

He once again cleared his throat. Reaching for his pen as an excuse to take a step away from you; opening his book to an empty page. “What is it you would like for me to make?”

“A reservation for two at the really nice restaurant down the street, the one where the moon and the stars are visible so beautifully at night. Booked for Valentine’s Day.”

“I’m not sure I can..” Before he finished his sentence, your finger lowered his book to place a piece of paper atop his page. “Dazai kind of told me what he read earlier..but the joke is on him. I already had plans to ask you anyway.”

Kunikida stood in silence until you started to widen your eyes. “You aren’t rejecting me are you? I mean, was he just messing with me? I swear I’m going to..”

Kunikida silenced you by stepping forward, his arm tucked beneath your torso as his book laid open flat against your back. “Kunikida..?”

Your breath and heart sped up against his chest; and with the small space your face turned a shade of pink. “I’m not rejecting you.” He said. His arm pushing you further into his personal space. “I’m going to spoil you my entire life.”

Wow, I had no idea I released so much. It was so much fun to relive all of that while I was making this.

This year was very harsh on me, I lost a couple of family members and I also almost lost my job as well, so if you were wondering about the sudden decline, that's your answer.

Special shoutout to the artists that made fan art of my work, they mean so much to me.

And a very special thank you to the people that left comments, wrote reviews and sent asks, they are not overlooked, and they fuel me to keep going.

Being inspired to write is hard, finding that spark of myself I want to add to my work is rough, but when I'm standing alone in the dark, it's you that hold the torch that lights my way out.
