Villain: The Knights of St. Kazvarin
There's pious and selfless devotion, and then there's whatever these weirdos have going on
Riding forth from their brooding fortress-abbey to do the will of a long dead holy man, these inscrutable warriors have long been the subject of rumour and suspicion. It's not an undeserved reputation, as apart from looting tombs for ancient relics or ominously observing the goings on of the common folk these forboding knights are most often acting as the hired muscle for unscrupulous nobles who have no regard for the legality or virtue of the orders they enforce.
Far more than mercenaries with a patina of piousness, the Knights use these contracts to fund a secret and sinister endeavour that they have undertaken for centuries.
Adventure Hooks:
While delving through a dungeon the party follow a trail of slain monsters to a gravely injured knight and his thoroughly overwhelmed young squire. The boy will introduce them as Tilaen and Ser Darrik respectively and ask for their aid in tending to his master's injuries, before the dour Knight chides him for speaking on his behalf and tells the party to be about their way. Ser Darrik wants no help from "the faithless" and is willing to use the last of his strength to get violent about it. If cooler heads prevail, the party will learn that the two were after a rare manuscript hidden somewhere within the dungeon, and the offer of collaboration might be explored. If the party don't help, they'll find the squire waiting for them at the dungeon's entrance, requesting their help to bury his master and guide him back to their order's abbey. It's only after a few days of travelling together will realize that Squire Tilaen is muchabused by his sect, and that steering the boy away or outright adopting him might be the real kindness.
Acting as a stern and imposing shadow to whatever asshole noble or callous merchant the party have recently pissed off, the towering and always helmed Ser Gelceiras has "Bossfight" written all over him. However when the adventure's final confrontation looms the party find him cleaning off his massive axe, his employer's head in a bloodsoaked bag waiting to be delivered to them. "We got what we wanted from him" he rumbles as he exits, " you can have what's left. no hard feelings."
Just a new threat encroaches on the settlement, a mace wielding bruiser in burnished armour rides up and pledges to fight alongside the party in its defence. Ser Portia's skill as a fighter is sorely needed, perhaps enough to overlook whatever agenda it is that drew her to the settlement in the first place. Shortly after the final battle is fought and the dust clears, the party will realize Portia is nowhere to be seen... having escaped sometime during the aftermath after inexplicably kidnapping one of the locals.
Background: Before he was a sacred corpse, Saint Kazvarin was a necromancer of great talent, having dedicated his life to the study of thanatology and the many loopholes around death. This earned him great renown and wealth in his day, amazing the masses with seances while charging the powerful dearly for cut-rate resurrections. He amassed generous patrons and fanatical followers, only to have it all fall apart when the Raven Queen took an interest.
Kazvarin had and constructed his own bootleg afterlife, a place where his most loyal followers would rest forever in glory before being called back in time of greatest need. Atleast that was the sales pitch, in reality the "saint" had stopped just short of lichdom delving into the shadow to create a demiplane where his own soul would reside undeminished after death, sustained by the faith of his followers as the realm hollowed them out.
Such villainy inevitably created it's own downfall in the form of a young woman who's family were taken in and exploited by Kazvarin's cult. Though her name was not recorded by history, she was marked by the Duskmaven for greatness when she swore to tear down the saint who would conquer death, years later succeeding along with some allies in not only killing the necromancer but cursing him with a most ironic fate. Denying him the afterlife he had so meticulously constructed, the raven queen cursed Kazvarin with reincarnation, forcing his soul to live out a new life where it would forget all he knew and be remade.
It would have been a perfect punishment had the Saint's followers not been so fanatical. Though their organization had been shattered by their "benevolent" leader's apparent assassination, the most loyal of his inner circle poured through his research, finding the spells nessisary to seek out his soul in its new vessel. Thereafter they engaged in a grim hunt, crossing the realms to ritually sacrifice the youth their leader had grown into and pulling free his undigested soul. This is the cycle Kazvarin's followers have been following for generations, spending decades hunting for signs of their leader's return before using murder and necromancy to forcibly deincarnate him. Thereafter Kazvarin has a few months or years to act freely before he is swallowed back up by the tide of souls and the hunt begins again
Future Adventures:
Though they begin as a comparatively minor oddity, the knights become a true threat to the campaign as soon as they figure out who Kazvarin's current incarnation is and manage to wrest his soul out. Ideally this should be someone the party knows, to make it all the more tragic that they were sacrificed to bring about the villain's return.
Though it is much deminished, Kazvarin's demiplane (called the Howling Basilica) still traps the souls of those who have sworn their lives to him, acting as a vault from which he can pull rank upon rank of shadow-maddened spirits to his bidding. His most loyal retainers are allowed to keep their skills and individuality while being deprived of their will, meaning he has a backlog of highly skilled Knights just waiting for new bodies to possess no matter how many times the party defeat them on the field. What's worse is that the saint still remembers how to manipulate people with the offer of offbrand immortality, and will likely begin reaching out to powerful individuals shorty after his return.

Otaku!Yuu: I've always found it weird that in most dark fantasy romances it's always some old-as-hell fae prince or dragon king trying to get with an 18-year-old girl.
Writer!Yuu: Yeah and they will have no discernable interest or personality outside of the obligatory tragic backstory the author gives them that is either way over the top or the most first-world problem you've ever heard of.
Otaku!Yuu: (acting)Oh my lord, I can't sing in front of the court! I haven't sung since my mother died in front of me. She was crushed by a piano while pushing me out of the way. I then fell into the road where a bus full of choir singers on the way to a performance nearly ran me other if it was for my father shielded me and died on impact. I miraculously didn't get injured except for this really cool tiny scar that I keep saying makes me ugly and refuse to listen when you tell me otherwise. After all as a woman I need a man to tell me I'm pretty or I will spontaneously combust!
Writer!Yuu: Oh God stop!! Please I swear I've read that before! Fea romance is so stupid anyways. It's the same story of some creep getting with a girl who's still mentally a child. But they are MEANT TO BE! Or something.
Otaku!Yuu: You ever notice that most of them are written by white Mormon women from the Midwest?
Writer!Yuu: For once I'd like a romantic lead that is actually fucked up. Not some kid who has to learn to fit in. Someone who knows politics and has core beliefs on leadership. Or hell, knows subterfuge and will stab someone in the back if needed. None of that namby pamby "you can't kill him then you'll be just as bad" nonsense.
Otaku!Yuu: Right where are you gonna get that?
-elsewhere-
Malleus:So how did you get your title if you weren't first in line to rule?
Noble!Yuu: The traditional way. Everyone else died.
Malleus:I'm sorry dear.
Noble!Yuu:( Took revenge on family members by convincing everyone they were traitors. Disposed of the crown prince and had everyone killed. Then placed their preferred royal on the thrown who pardoned them after their plan was done.) You're so kind love.

We have read the Demeter's situation as a horror movie, as an exhausting job that drains the crew, and as an inexplicable travel that should have been normal if it wasn't for Dracula going through the crew like snacks.
But there is one thing that I ask myself: Dracula is a noble, a wealthy man in a position of power, and the Demeter crew are working class people who just wants to do their as good as possible so they can get paid at the end of the day.
Could Dracula's attacks relate to class, and explotation of the poor at the hands of the rich?
Since it seems that our resident vampire is very confident in his non-existent ability to direct a cargo ship with all of his coffins by himself. Dracula is going through the Demeter crew like they are expendable, and they are to him! Just human blood bags that are discharged the second they finish their "unskilled labor" because how difficult it would be to steer a boat of wood?
Nevermind that Dracula has been living in seclusion for god know how long, and this is probably the first time in centuries he puts a foot on a boat.
The Demeter crew have been "serving" a wealthy person part of the noble class that they are never going to see. A boss squeezing every single drop of their labor for his benefit while putting them in subhuman conditions in which none of them can work properly. Dracula doesn't see nor care that is thanks to these sailors he is so close to England.
On top of that, in their job the Demeter crew have probably seen many of their coworkers die in their travels, only for them to end up as a statistic at the eyes of their employers.
The only people who will mourn the Demeter crew are their families, and they will not see a single coin of compensation for the labor that killed the crew.

more phoenix wright situations
#ace attorney tag#maybe i should tag this narumitsu or something. but i dont really care.#gearing up to rereading/illustrating bits of my fic i suppose...i think nick really is too dense to realise he's in love with edgeworth#without some scheming fop trying to intrude. i love villains like kristoph..villains can be fun..witnessing their pathetic folly..#or more like edgeworth would never have mentioned his feelings ever in his life if he wasn't sure phoenix reciprocates.#i want to see it this way because Falling in love during childhood with the person you're going to end up with. is not relatable#there have to be Situations that make you Realise.#as with orufrey i adore the idea of people not working out their romance with that person until their 30s+#but... i mean. even with orufrey i often think how alaira could be qifrey's ex. and oru having been pursued by noble fops through his work#there is that delicate sliver of time before orufrey start living together that such believable situations could have happened.#Then the relief of politely and amicably extricating themselves from those untenable situations#the idea of falling in love age 7 and saving your first kiss for age 35 or something is all very well but more relatable is#people realising how they really feel whilst trying something that ends up feeling wrong.#The comfort and joy of living with your dearest one as if it's platonic - much preferable to trying anything more with anyone else.#But i doubt i will ever portray that or mention it further. it is indeed very delicate to me.#and i really am an OTP FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kind of person who can barely bear to consider this anyway...NOT a polyshipper i'm afraid !#so i wouldn't mind either if they do have their first kiss in their lives age 35 with each other either. I would not mind that at all.#i love bi/gay couples apparently... bi father figures & their grumpy gay men waiting for them to work it all out...#not used to using colour in comic-style drawings..or at all..so this is messy and awkward looking..but colour is refreshing#i imagine i will go back to witch hat art soon btw. my destiny in life.#i still remember writing my nrmt fic expecting to write their first kiss & then partway through twas like Umm No. They have kissed prior.#does that really line up with this comic though... i think i had their early dinner dates/first kiss BEFORE disbarment.#so i guess this comic doesn't line up with my ficverse.... No..... U___U Oh well. sorry kris! <3

Preorder Sale
Tumblr media
Today is the last day of the #BNPreorder deal, so I slide in villainously late because if you were considering pre-ordering my chaotic band of villains taking over a story, writers deeply appreciate a pre-order and you all deserve a wicked deal!

#hold on#before the attack on jakku tomura and the lov's highest body count was in deika#meaning the lov had killed more VILLAINS than heroes!#what losers!#even chisaki killed nighteye!
AU where the LoV sucks so much at their job that they keep mistaken for heroes.
Oh my, this’ll be fun.
It first happens when Kurogiri is unavailable so they use a different warp quirk to bring most of the Villains into the USJ. Tomura and Kurogiri finally arrive when the fight is fully underway. This leads one of the villains who'd been just about to murder one of the students to jump at him, thinking he was a Hero coming to help. Tomura dusts him, then gets into a fight with some of his ticked off friends while AM defeats the Nomu.
In the aftermath, Tomura is believed to be a violent vigilante. He's furious and thinking of ways to get back at them, so he finally organizes the Hosu attack. However, he sees Stain attacking some Hero brats and decides that now's the perfect time to get payback on that guy. He lunges at Stain from behind, causing him to break off an attack that might have killed Iida. He's paralyzed and kicked to the curb and kinda forgotten about until Kurogiri drags him away like a sullen kindergartner. He's kept out of the media, but the Heroes assume he's a vigilante who worked to once again save the Hero students.
Finally Tomura has a plot to put himself on the map, the attack on the UA summer camp! He and the LoV attack! But Gigantomachia arrives first, attracted by the scent of the Little Lord. Tomura and the others fight him until he kinda walks away. Oh and Compress snatches Bakugo while nobody's looking. Finally, people will know them as the monsters they are!
Cue UA reporting that a band of vigilantes saved several Hero students by fighting off a kaiju which tragically kidnapped one of the students and teachers. Tomura only holds back from dusting the bar by the threat of Kurogiri confiscating his video games.
They place an unconscious Bakugo in restraints and decide to ask him to join them. Unfortunately the Heroes arrive just as Bakugo wakes up and they undo his restraints, leading them to believe they were rescuing them. Them being forcibly warped to AFO's location (presumably so he can kill them), then warped away when AM arrives (so they can't join AM in defeating them) further proves that they are totally good guys!
They become famous in the media, who track their exploits. They help bring down a powerful Yakuza clan, saving an abused little girl and taking brutal vengeance on the scumbag who abused her, they fight a kaiju in the mountains, they even defeat an entire city of evil quirk supremacist terrorists, allowing the authorities to swoop in and arrest them.
Tomura is at the end of his rope and declares that they're going to do something so brazenly villainous that no one will mistake them for Heroes anymore, or else he's giving up on villainy and becoming a vigilante! They're going to destroy a hospital and an orphanage! Dabi says he knows just the locations.
The next day the papers are proclaiming how the noble vigilantes have successfully exposed and destroyed the wicked operations of Kyudai Garaki who was operating an orphanage to manipulate innocent children into his own weapons, even killing them to create undead monsters in the hospital.
Tomura: Screw it, we're vigilantes now.

Villain: The Lauding Worm
Born of hubris and old glories gone rotten, this pallid demon of pride exists to parasite those that consider themselves great; Lurking in the walls of their ancestral estates, whispering in their ear, bloating along with their egos, inevitably driving them to cruelty and ruin as it's appetite and expectations grow ever larger.
Adventure Hooks:
The party are travelling through the wilderness when they encounter a richly attired knight exhausted and on the edge of collapse. After helping her recover, she shares that she is part of a noble family renowned for their legacy of dragonhunting, a life threatening challenge she must exceed if she is to honour her family and claim her inheritance. The expectation of this great and dangerous deed has worn heavy on her shoulders all her life, and has become all too literal now that the demon has invisibly coiled about her neck. Fresh off it's latest incarnation, the Lauding worm is small for the moment, feeding off the knight as she destroys herself for the sake of legacy and will not allow her to be dissuaded from her doomed quest. It may infulence the party to join her however, seeing the potential for gorging on greater glory should the dragon slaying succeed. It the aftermath of the battle, or perhaps some weeks later, the Lauding worm will convince the dragonslaying knight that the great do not share their glory, and that she must eliminate the party so they do not tell of her weakness in needing aid, or her shame in not striking the final blow.
Something is wrong with the king, and the whole realm suffers for it. Obsessed with building expansions to his palace he neglects the welfare of his realm and the stability of his court to empty the treasury into ever more elaborate construction. Brigands run wild, his underlings scheme and attempt to seize each other's territory, and all the while the king pours over the plans of his architects and demands they build more. The Lauding worm has gotten to him, it lives and grows in the castle walls, and the more the king builds the bigger it gets. The servants whisper of rumbling behind the walls, and though it is excused as the byproduct of the constant renovations, it's only a matter of time before the demon's growth exceeds what can be constructed and it breaks free to rampage across the land.
The Lauding Worm has a special reward for those who feed it best, realized only in the rare times it grows bored of gorging itself on the pride of others and seeks to enact its own ambitions. Taking the guise of a mortal necromancer it raises it's favoured hosts from their graves and turns their talents towards Conquest.

Things progress as they tend to in isekai with some poor romantic interest villain character inadvertently ending up around him. Thor wants to get out of this world so bad and is subtly trying to drop hints for the villain guy to spill info on how to dimension hop. It soon becomes evident that Loki was also isekai’d and is stuck as the story’s villain.
