Alex Albon for High Performance
It was this weird thing, because — for example with Yuki, I wanted to take his seat! He was a potential candidate that I could replace. And I remember having that chat with Helmut Marko, and he told me at the time, "You need to driver-coach this guy." And I was like, "I'm not going to. That's a potential seat." And he said, "No, he's already signed. He's guaranteed." So I was like (throws hands), "Okay, fine. Then I'll help him."

Have just discovered that clinicians get concerned when you answer the question "how do you cope? " with slightly hysterical laughter...

⇢ SERIES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
The sequence of events that landed you in this situation; having a teary, heaving breakdown in front of your bathroom mirror, was absolutely ridiculous, to say the least.
Tumblr media
“I’m gonna kill someone,” you squeak, breathless from the endless stream of sneezes ripping through you. The glow of the alarm clock on your nightstand reads 1 a.m. as you reach for a tissue. Violently blowing your nose does little to ease its congestion. With a shaky sigh, you crumple the sodden napkin and toss it into the bin beside your bed; overthrown by contents alike. The wet ball hits the paper mountain before rolling onto your pretty pink area rug.
You shiver, how fucking disgusting.
A stressful week of labs and quizzes has tanked your immune system, making you susceptible to all the little germs and illnesses that strike when the brisk winter air transitions into the pollen-laced breeze of spring. The antibiotics you were prescribed did little to help your runny nose and sore throat. Pausing the anime playing on your phone, you open your messages.
dumbo love you, get some rest please xx
So much for getting rest. You weren’t expecting a text back. Jungkook had offered to spend the night, but you encouraged him to go. It was his last semester after all. Still, you were pouty and needy, wanting nothing more than to snuggle into his arms and let the swirls of his delicate fingers on your back lull you to sleep. Instead, here you were, confined to your bed, watching Naruto solo as Jungkook, Tae, and Mina lived it up; taking shots until they were belligerent.
A distinguishable knock rattles the door before you can press play again.
“What are you doing here?”
Jungkook stands in your doorway, oversized black tee hanging over his equally oversized green cargo pants. His cute little mullet falls in sweaty loops around his face. “Still feelin’ like shit?” He coos, cringing at your disheveled appearance and the croak in your voice. Ignoring your question, he holds up the various items in his big hands. “I picked up a few things; cough drops—not the cherry kind ‘cause those are fucking nasty,” you laugh at the side note, “—extra spicy ramen and hot sauce to clear out your sinuses.”
Your peer at the array of remedies with wide eyes. Their ability to cure your flu symptoms is questionable. You don’t even have a way of boiling water to make said ramen in your cramped dorm, but the sentiment has your chest swelling with something other than a violent cough for the first time in days. Abruptly, you pull him into a tight embrace.
“Ah, I see,” he laughs, wrapping an arm around the small of your back and walking you back into the room, kicking the door closed behind him. “My Bambi missed me.”
“I did,” you nuzzle into him further, “but you shouldn’t be here… you should be having fun with your friends.”
“Nah, fuck ‘em,” he retorts playfully, putting the quote-unquote medicine down and then plopping onto the bed, taking you with him. “Besides, what kind of shit boyfriend ditches their sick girlfriend to go to a party anyways?”
“The kind that should be enjoying his last semester,” you frown.
“I am, though. I enjoy spending time with you more than anything else.”
As he lays under you, black tresses splayed against your white comforter like a misshapen halo, you feel so incredibly lucky. Gently, you run your fingers through his choppy bangs, pushing them out of his doe eyes. “Have you been drinking?”
“Not really, just a couple shots of Fireball and a few beers.” That much alcohol would have knocked you on your lightweight ass, but after years of beer pong and keg stands, Jungkook’s tolerance was damn near Kage level. It took a lot more than that to get him drunk. “I kinda…” he averts your gaze, something he does when he’s sad or guilty. “I felt really bad so I left.”
“Jungkook, I told you it was okay.”
“I know,” he nods, sliding a warm palm under your shirt, rubbing his thumb against your skin in soothing lines. “But I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Using your fingertip, you brush an eyelash off the apple of his cheek. “Thank you… for coming back for me.”
“Of course, Bambi.” He leans up and presses a deep kiss to your dehydrated lips.
“Kook, stop,” you mumble, craning your neck back. “You’re gonna get sick.”
“I don’t care.”
It doesn’t take much convincing. If Jungkook doesn’t care, why should you?
What follows is a battle of warm tongues and the needy clash of his bunny teeth against yours. Tender touches coax your Sailor Moon pajama set to the floor with the promise of Jungkook’s delicious love. Before you know it, you’re sinking down onto his hard length, fingers digging into his shoulders as he slouches against your headboard.
“Take it all,” he whispers, jaw slacking as he tilts his head down, getting a clear view of your wet cunt swallowing the remaining few inches. A slick film coats the two fingers he used to hold himself up for you as your lip pillow around the base. “Yeah, just like that.” His face contorts in pleasure, overcome by your warm, slippery walls after a week of illness-induced celibacy. “Feels good, huh baby? Tell me how good my dick makes you feel.”
He wants praise and dirty talk, but the tickle in your nose makes you pause, bracing yourself as a slew of sneezes pours out of you. Eight sneezes to be exact. Jungkook’s high-pitched cackle is drowned out by a shriek as you cup your hand over your leaking nostrils. “EW!”
“Shut up, it’s fine!” He grabs a tissue from the nearly empty box. “Lemme see,” he mumbles, pulling your hand down and wiping it clean, then doing the same to your face afterward and tossing the kleenex in your glittery pink trash bin.
“I’m sorry,” you peep, completely mortified.
“Don’t worry.” The crooked bunny grin eases your nerves. “That was fire, actually. You clenched around me so tight.”
You squint at him and then bury your head into the crook of his neck. You make love to each other; slow and gentle. At one point, Jungkook locks his tattooed fingers in between yours, pecking your bare shoulder as lazy drags of your hips bring you both to writhing climaxes. And he looks so beautiful when he climaxes, gnawing at his lip piercing, skin dewy from sweat and the moonlight shining through the blinds.
At that moment, you felt nothing but love and pure ecstasy.
Tumblr media
Isn’t it funny how pleasures of the past can create complete devastation in the present?
Clutching the edge of the porcelain sink, you stare down at the pink box of pregnancy tests. There’s tear stains on your cheeks. A pain in your lungs from all the sobbing. You wish Jungkook had been a shit boyfriend that night. You’d give anything to take it all back.
Like a sixth sense, there’s a distinguishable knock at the door.
“Hey, I-” he stops short, brows furrowing as his dark pupils scan your face. “Have you been crying?”
“What do you think?” You shouldn’t snap at him, but the waves of anxiety washing over you make you highly sensitive. Truthfully, you weren’t going to tell Jungkook any of this. His showing up had put an awful wrench in your plans. Well, unless the test came back positive. Then, you’d be forced to tell him. You clamp your hand over your mouth, the thought making you sick to your stomach.
“__, take a deep breath. Sit down.” You do and he follows suit. “What's going on?”
“I-” you gulp, swallowing back a whine, struggling to form a coherent sentence. There’s no escape, you have to confess. “I think I might be pregnant.”
There’s an eerie silence once the words hit the air, lingering over you both like a dark, dreary cloud. It takes Jungkook a moment to internalize the weight of the situation, but you can tell when the thunder strikes. The pink tinge in his cheeks fades to a stark, sickly white as he inhales shakily. “Fuck-” Leaning his elbows against his knees, he digs the heels of his palms into his eyes, shielding them. “I thought you were on the pill.”
“I am, but I was taking antibiotics last week and I read that they can make birth control less effective- and I’ve been having symptoms lately.” It all comes out in a jumbled mess like word vomit. He doesn’t respond. He doesn’t move. And it scares you. “Are you mad at me?”
“No.” Despite his posture, his tone is still and calm. “I just… don’t know what to say. It’s a lot to take in.”
“I’m sorry,” you whisper as the floodgates finally burst. You were still in the swell of your STEM program. Jungkook is just about to graduate with a Bachelor’s in photography. Both of your lives would come to a screeching halt if the worst were true. You weren’t ready for a baby, not in the slightest. “I’m so sorry.”
“Hey, hey, don’t-.” Finally, Jungkook sits up, wrapping a strong arm around your shoulder and pulling you into his side. The other arm repeats as he rests his chin on top of your head, rocking your shaking frame back and forth for comfort. “Don’t apologize, don’t cry. Why don’t you take a test before we start freaking the fuck out?”
You suppose he’s right.
The walk to the bathroom is a blur. Suddenly, you’re on the toilet with that evil stick in hand. Jungkook is sitting on the floor with his eyes closed, knees bent and head leaned back against the wood of the cabinet. Normally, you’re extremely pee-shy. It literally will not come out. Under these circumstances, you can’t bring yourself to care.
“You pee so softly,” Jungkook says through an airy laugh. “I pee really hard- and fast. Like-” he makes a little whooshing noise with his mouth, “like a hose.”
“Baby, please,” you huff, setting the test aside and pulling your sweats up. You know he’s trying to ease your nerves, but this is one situation where his lighthearted jokes and comments ceased to make you smile. “This is serious.”
“Trust me, I know.” Spreading his legs, he pats the carpet between them. “C’mere.” As soon as you hit the ground he’s embracing you, trailing kisses all over your exposed skin. “What now?”
“Now,” you sigh, setting a timer on your phone for three minutes, “we wait.”
“You know… it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if it’s positive.”
“It would be absolutely awful, Jungkook.” It’s a sweet sentiment but you know he’s lying, right through his bunny teeth. Late-night conversations in bed about the future ring in your head. ‘Honestly, I don’t think I want kids,’ Jungkook had hummed in the middle of My Neighbor Totoro, ‘ever.’ Generally, you felt the same way, but the memory is terrifying in this context; sitting on the bathroom floor with him, waiting for an answer that could contradict all of your plans and possibly crumble the entire foundation of your relationship.
“Who am I kidding?” He chuckles humorlessly. “You’re right, it would be fucking awful.”
Nervously, you toy with the silver rings on his inked fingers. “What if it’s positive, Jungkook?”
“Let’s just wait until we get the results.”
“But what if it’s positive?” You twist in his arms, showing him your glassy eyes and deep frown. Showing him that his answer, regardless of what the test says, was very important to you.
He blinks at you, lips opening and then closing promptly as he mulls over his words. “If it is… then we’ll take care of it.”
There’s a dual meaning to the sentiment that makes you chew on your bottom lip, eyes flickering up to the white ceiling to stop yourself from crying. Take care of it as in going through with it? Or take care of it as in… the other option? Honestly, the latter would be your first choice, and you’re sure it’s his as well. But for whatever reason, the fact that he assumed it makes your heart ache. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means whatever you want it to mean.” Gently, he smooths a hand over your trembling thighs before they frantically search for yours. “Just… whatever you want to do… whatever you want, I’ll support it… I’m here.”
A breath you hadn’t realized you were holding in releases in relief. You feel stupid for even questioning him. After all these months of unconditional love, you should know better. Bringing your locked hands up, you kiss his fingertips. The smile it brings out of him is just as soft as your touch. “I love you so much.”
“I love y-.”
He’s cut off by the blaring ring of your timer.
“Please, can you look?” You mumble, shaking your head and covering your eyes. “I can’t do it.”
You feel his torso twist against your back as he reaches for the test on your countertop. The time between him grabbing it and the dreaded answer feels like an eternity.
“Negative.”
“Thank fuck!” You groan, doing a complete 180 and wrapping your arms around his neck in celebration. You haven’t felt this type of excitement since you were a child, waking up on Christmas morning and seeing colorful presents under the tree.
“What made you think you were pregnant in the first place?”
You hesitate to respond. In retrospect, it’s not as valid of a reason as you originally thought. “I’ve been feeling sick in the morning.”
Pulling back, Jungkook deadpans you. “Bambi, no shit. You’ve been sick all week.”
“I know but,” you pout, twirling a ringlet at the nape of his neck, “google said I could be pregnant…”
“You’re so fucking lucky you’re cute,” he laughs, holding you flush to him and nipping your cheek playfully. “You’ve got to be the most dramatic person I’ve ever met in my life.” You know he’s joking, but the comment makes your expression drop a bit. “But that’s part of the reason I love you so much. I’m never bored with you.”
Once again, you truly don’t know how you got so lucky.
“Alright,” he huffs, using all of his strength to haul you up into the air and walk you back to your bedroom. Instinctually and habitually, you wrap your legs around his cinched waist. “We finished Avatar last time, so what’re we watching tonight?”
You click your tongue in contemplation. “Naruto.”
“Naruto? Bambi, isn’t Naruto like- a billion episodes long?”
When he tosses you down onto the mattress, you pout and bat your long lashes at him, pulling out all the provenly successful manipulation tactics. “Please?”
“Fine,” he grumbles, plopping down beside you. “But don’t be mad if I knock out.”
And like clockwork, Jungkook dozes off in the middle of the second episode, but that’s okay, because despite how horrible the pregnancy scare was, it truly solidified Jungkook’s presence in your life. You have all the time in the world to watch hours and hours of subpar filler episodes, and you’ll do it happily as long as you’re with him.

*・῾ ⁺ Welcome to My Teen Titans DR 🧨 .*
💥 ˗ˏˋ DESCRIPTION .ᐟ
In 2003 Jump City, a team of six teenagers called the "Teen Titans" fight against supervillains threatening their beloved metropolis. Along the way, they must face issues even worse than superpowered antagonists who want them captured; emotions, romance, and navigating the bumpy road of impending adulthood. My DR follows the plot of the show except with my own headcanons, scenarios, etc.
Like the show, there are no secret identities; so our superhero personas are quite literally just us. WHICH MEANS WE'RE TREATED LIKE CELEBRITIES!! People ask for photos/autographs, we have merch, and there's even an entire Teen Titans fandom with forums and fanarts and theories!! Not super relevant to this reality's lore, but thought it'd be cool to mention🤭.

Aang, Psychology, and the Concept of “Running Away” (A Breakdown Of Aang's Trauma Responses)
So, one thing that always kind of threw me off about atla was Aang's ignoration and dismissiveness of the things that have happened to him and continue to happen to him. He never seemed to have any kind of trauma response (besides nightmares).
Recently I've realized that the ignoration is Aang's trauma response, and it runs pretty fucking deep. Aang shows a lot of trauma responses but they are not as noticeable because Aang is also ridiculously good at emotional regulation, to a toxic point imo, and probably due to his upbringing by monks.
Aang, as is pretty well covered by the show, has a problem with trying to 'run away’ from his problems. This steadily stops happening as much throughout Book 2 (though he is learning in Book 1), but what's interesting is, while his tendency to physically run away from problems ends, his tendency to emotionally run away increases.
We go from Book 1 in which Aang confides in Katara about the separation from the monks, to Book 2 in which Aang literally actively rejects attempts at comfort in favor of an emotional shut down, to Book 3 where, after the failed invasion, Aang immediately tries just about anything he can to avoid talking about it.
He's not necessarily 'running away’. He still owns up to his duty and is right on the ball when Zuko shows up to teach firebending. It is not the work he shies from, it is specifically talking about the failure. This is Aang's main trauma response. Before I delve deeper into that though, I want to talk about Aang's other trauma responses that get bypassed thanks to his ability to ignore them.
Quoting ‘What is Child Traumatic Stress’, “Traumatic reactions can include a variety of responses, including intense and ongoing emotional upset, depressive symptoms, anxiety, behavioral changes, difficulties with attention, academic difficulties, nightmares, physical symptoms such as difficulty sleeping and eating, and aches and pains, among others.”
Aang shows almost all of these at one point or another, and typically they show themselves when he finds himself incapable of mentally 'running away.’
Intense and Ongoing Emotional Upset:
I'm mostly eyeing the avatar state episodes. His immediate reaction to traumatic events he is helpless to is explosive anger, but it fails to be ongoing because it is immediately followed by a shut down.
- Aang on Zuko's boat. In this episode, while fighting with Zuko, Aang shows some pretty intense fear and his first (technically second) experience with the Avatar state is for survival and driven by fear (also, notably, a repeat experience of the same thing that caused the actual first experience). Yet, as soon as Aang is off of Zuko's boat, he's melancholy for a hot second and then turns on a dime and starts talking about the adventures they can go on. Avatar State -> Shut Down/dismissing or ignoring the problem.
- Aang at the Southern Air Temple. He starts off in deep obvious denial, like this kid is so obviously blocking. Then he sees Gyatso's body, goes into a rage and grief induced Avatar state, gets pulled out, can no longer use denial as his mental defense, and so once again turns to shut down. He's expressionless as he comes down, and when he's fully out he's just kind of tired and speaks with a soft almost toneless quality. He's admitting to the trauma and yet there's a numb resignation to it. He's not emotionally connecting with it. We see him after with Momo and Appa smiling and just being like “we gotta stick together :)”. That's not the appropriate response to admitting there's only three survivors of your home. Avatar State -> Shut down/dismissal
- Aang and General Fong. Aang experiences an extremely distressing and helpless situation while he watches Katara, one of two whole people in his life, be buried. He goes into a rage induced Avatar state, again, and then literally 'nope's out of the situation with help from Roku. And when he comes back, he shuts down. He doesn't react emotionally, he once again speaks in that soft, even, almost dead tone, apologizes, and dismisses the event. I mean, the way he addresses General Fong, the person who just caused this whole thing, is extremely chill, almost uncharacteristic. Just a simple, “you're out of your mind” with a tone that could make you think he was having a casual conversation with someone who just suggested eating cereal out of a cup. And then he's good! Momo comes back and he smiles and everything is all good again. Avatar State -> Shut down/dismissal.
- Then we have the desert, one of the few times Aang does not shut down immediately, but then it culminates in the Avatar State and he stays like that for a bit but once he comes down, his faces changes again, to what is almost resignation, like he's given up on being mad, which really, he has as we see later. And then the next episode and he's playing in some water, but as soon as Sokka brings up Appa, we see the face and tone that's now kind of familiar: soft, dead, dismissive. He's once again refusing to emotionally connect and is downplaying it. Avatar State -> shut down/dismissal.
Depressive Symptoms/Anxiety:
He shows fits of both, though these aren't as evident because, again, most of the time he's in an emotional block and ignoring the problems. But when he cannot ignore the absence of his lifelong companion, he has a long period of anger followed by a numb depressive state, he literally talks about giving up hope. He is entirely hopeless at this point.
And then when he cannot ignore the Day of Black Sun coming in a few days, his anxiety goes through the fucking roof.
However, these don't last long and that'll connect to me talking about emotional regulation later.
Behavioral Changes:
Aang changes A Lot over the course of the series. Book 1 Aang is very distinct from Book 3 Aang (though we still see the core traits of him throughout). He becomes more hyper focused on doing his duty, tends to fall to the background when he can, generally takes on a much more somber demeanor.
Difficulties With Attention:
This one's not really huge. He has about the same amount of attention focus in Book 3 as he does Book 1, if not improvement.
Nightmares:
I don't think I have to explain this. Aang goes through multiple fits of nightmares.
Difficulties Sleeping or Eating:
Once again, I look to Nightmares and Daydreams, one of the few times Aang is unable to shut down or block. He cannot sleep for the life of him. I have plans to go back and pay attention to eating habits in Book 3 in order to potentially add onto this joke meta, but I would not be surprised if there were signs of a lowered appetite, even if the writers did not intend it.
Aches and Pains:
He doesn't ever complain about this but also like, would he? Even if he was experiencing them? Kid tried to fight people and fly through a storm while newly recovering from a lightning injury. Aang gives no shits.
Then the article also covers childhood PTSD diagnoses which I'd also like to go over real quick. “the child continues to re-experience the event through nightmares, flashbacks, or other symptoms for more than a month after the original experience; the child has what we call avoidance or numbing symptoms—he or she won’t think about the event, has memory lapses, or maybe feels numb in connection with the events—and the child has feelings of arousal, such as increased irritability, difficulty sleeping, or others.”
Most of these I just covered, but I think it's notable that numbness is also mentioned here, the exact symptoms I've been talking about. Avoidant, won't think about it, numb in connection.
And just to be sure that everyone is on board let me go through some other examples of Aang shutting down:
Katara brings up the 100 years and Aang immediately blocks that shit. It's literally too big for him to conceptualize, so he dismisses it as okay because he has a new friend now and moves on and doesn't think about it.
The Northern Air Temple. I think most people agree that the lesson in that episode was wrong. Aang had every right to be angry. There's nothing okay about taking over and destroying 100 year old artifacts of a nearly extinct culture. We see Aang react to this with a numbness. There's even a moment where he's just frozen and uncomprehending. “This place is unbelievable.” “Yeah. It's great isn't it?” “No, just unbelievable.” He reacts with anger later (notably when he feels like he can do something instead of being helpless), and then when he can no longer do anything, he once again just rejects any negative emotional turmoil in favor of that “it's fine” attitude and accepts what the people have done.
Then the desert, one of the few places we don't see him shut down immediately. Except, literally the next episode is all about Aang's hardest shut down yet.
There are other examples but I think you get the point. He does this A Lot.
Okay cool, so we've covered the denial and trauma responses part, but how does emotional regulation play into this?
I'm glad you asked.
So, when I was first considering Aang and this whole thing, I thought Aang exhibited emotional dysregulation, especially in regards to the Avatar State, but then I actually did some learning on emotional dysregulation and realized, actually, no, he doesn't. Emotional dysregulation is mostly characterized by emotional responses being out of proportion with the event, but I think we can all agree, pm every time he goes into the Avatar State, that emotional response is uh, rather warranted. Now, Aang does, in these moments, show the lack of control that can come with emotional dysregulation, but also like, who wouldn't.
Considering Aang's behavior outside of the Avatar State Outbursts, he's actually very good at emotional regulation. Scary good, in fact. Number One in the reasons I say this is everything I said above. The ability to shut down is often an active choice. Aang does not like who he is when he is upset and, outside the initial outburst, has a pretty firm grip on his emotions. He shows anger at times, but they are in appropriate places with more or less appropriate responses.
The Desert stands out so much because Aang loses the control he normally has. This is where we see him lose his grip on himself and he spirals.
He rarely shows grief. During his lessons with the Guru he passes all the chakras with amazing ease because he legitimately is that good at controlling and managing emotions which, like I said at the very beginning, I attribute a lot of that to him being raised by monks. I mean, he's a 12 yr old who is skilled in meditation. I don't think it's a stretch to think the monks taught him other such things.
He doesn't react to small things that would normally piss people off. Examples include The Headband when he gives absolutely zero shits about the bully, and The Southern Raiders where he accepts Katara trying to steal Appa and doesn't react to Zuko mocking him and his culture.
Aang also, paradoxically, can be pretty good at expressing emotions when he needs to. He's typically very emotionally intelligent, with the exception being pretty much any trauma. He will react to basic things in the moment and is unafraid to show frustration or anger or uncertainty, as long as it's Not connected to a thing he is distinctly Not thinking about.
And one of the most damning examples of his emotional regulation skill, that is actually the scene that started me thinking about all of this, is the scene with Koh the Face Stealer.
That scene threw me off so much because I felt like it was incredibly out of character for Aang, this incredibly expressive kid, to be able to show no emotional reaction. It didn't make sense and for a long time I dismissed it as just, the writers thought it'd be cool so he did it. But of course, I can't let things lay, so I never really stopped thinking about it until I realized, in context of everything I've talked about before, it actually makes perfect sense.
Aang is emotionally expressive by choice. He has the ability to control his emotions and responses to a ridiculous degree. He knows how to be emotionally intelligent with basic things, where to express emotion and how to do it.
(Of course, he's not perfect. There are plenty of times he acts out, the Bato episode being the first thing to come to mind, but even there, after just a few hours, he has wrestled with his jealousy and responds appropriately to guilt, he owns up to it. He does try to explain himself but when Sokka makes it clear he's not going to listen, Aang does not continue to press the point. He accepts Sokka's decision, does not lash out, and for once doesn't shut down or exhibit happiness soon after. He is sad and expresses it without shoving his emotions onto others. For a 12 yr old, this is fucking impressive.)
Aang was taught well by the monks, but the one thing they couldn't teach him was response to trauma, and that's where he falters, but that emotional regulation means he's not going to respond in a typical way. Instead, he turns to denial as his coping mechanism of choice and uses those skills he learned to achieve a workable state of being but through unhealthy use.
Where am I going with this? Idk. Nowhere really, I just wanted to talk about Aang and psychology tbqh.
Anyway, I will finish this up by a fun delve into Things He's Probably Going To End Up Suffering From:
Denial can lead to memory blocking, where it's more than just not thinking about it, the brain actively suppresses and alters memory to cope. Adult Aang's recollection of the Ozai year is probably not going to be super accurate. Would not be surprised if someone was like “hey remember that time you were almost executed by a town for your past live’s mistakes?” and Aang just went “No???” and legit has no recollection of any such thing.
Selective numbing will eventually turn into collective numbing. You can selectively numb for a temporary period of time (which is how people fall into the trap) but eventually your brain will start to numb everything, not just the bad things. At the very least teenage Aang absolutely goes through a period of dissociative complete numbness.
Speaking of dissociation, if you're not going to react to trauma the normal way, dissociation happens. It starts as a coping mechanism but like with numbing, it cannot remain controlled and will develop into something. Aang will have a dissociative disorder, I'm telling you. Which one? Idk, but I assure you, it'll be there. I'm leaning toward some basic depersonalization/derealization and/or OSDD type four where trauma and meditation accidentally mix for the worse.
So yeah, there you go, a breakdown of Aang, his trauma responses, his emotional intelligence, and the consequences of those two things put together.
I'm gonna be a nerd here and add shitty citations but this is mostly in case you're also a psych geek and want to read things.

Alhaitham and Neuvillette: Of Gentle Giants and Stoic Softies
⚠️Spoilers for Sumeru archon quests, as well as Fontaine archon quests acts 1 and 2 ahead. Read at your own discretion.
As a fan of Alhaitham since his initial appearance in the game (you may remember me from my "Alhaitham Propaganda" posts), I've found player reactions (as well as my own) to Neuvillette amusing to observe. Many aspects of their fan reception have been almost identical, owing to their strikingly similar mannerisms--both stoic, mysterious, and conventionally attractive, falling firmly under the "tall, dark, and handsome" archetype.
It's true that Alhaitham and Neuvillette are similar characters, both superficially and deeper down. However, they do exhibit some key differences in personality; in addition to resulting in subtle but distinct discrepancies of player opinion of these two characters, I believe this comparison makes it particularly intriguing to anticipate Neuvillette's further character development as the Fontaine lore expands and the story continues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alhaitham and Neuvillette both exhibit a blunted affect (also called flat affect), essentially meaning that they are not very expressive--at least, according to typical social expectations. However, this does not necessarily indicate that they don't feel emotions at all; in fact, it's possible to perceive and interpret their emotional cues, such as changes in facial expression or vocal tone, with relative ease, so long as they are not held to said social norms.
In real life, flat affect can either be simply a matter of personality, or a symptom of neurodivergent conditions such as autism, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or schizoid personality disorder (SzPD). People with blunted or flat affects are often misinterpreted as callous, hostile, or untrustworthy, or even completely emotionless, simply because their individual modes of expression do not match widely held social expectations.
This was certainly the case with Alhaitham, who, after a brief but impactful appearance in one act of the Sumeru archon quests, was almost invariably regarded by fans as highly suspicious, and commonly called a "walking red flag."
Moreover, several other characters' quotes about Alhaitham suggest that they think he is coldly rational and, according to Kaveh's opinion, has no feelings at all. While Alhaitham's extended collaboration with the Traveler ultimately proved that he was indeed a reliable ally, most other characters continue to regard him as entirely unapproachable.
Within canon, Neuvillette is also accused of being cold and apathetic. When Navia and the Traveler visit Neuvillette in his office to request records of a potential person of interest in the case regarding her late father, and come up empty-handed, Neuvillette verbally offers his sympathy; however, Navia, seized by grief, raises her voice against him for being dishonest and heartless. When Navia and company leave the palace, it is raining, indicating that Neuvillette--who is heavily implied to be the legendary Hydro Dragon by this point--was, in fact, genuinely moved to tears.
Tumblr media
In contrast, though, beyond canon, cursory observation suggests that Neuvillette's reception by players has been largely positive, with fans readily describing him as "kind" and "sweet" despite his flat demeanor. The suspicion with which Alhaitham was met due to said demeanor appears all but absent.
Evidently, finding a potential reason for this difference requires delving deeper into their emotional patterns.
Indeed, in addition to being stoic, both Alhaitham and Neuvillette demonstrate sensitivity and openness to others' perspectives, integrity, and emotional experiences, which should accurately lend them both to the description of "sweet" or "compassionate." The Traveler's early interactions with them bear striking similarities: in the case of the Sumeru story, Alhaitham explicitly gives the Traveler the option to refuse to collaborate with him--which, historically, is highly unusual among suspiciously wealthy characters seeking a deal with the Traveler--and in Fontaine, Neuvillette's first conversation with the Traveler involve him apologizing for making the silence between them so awkward and offering to partake in conversation as a remedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What sets these two characters apart is their understanding of other peoples' emotional and rational processes--in Neuvillette's case, a lack thereof.
Alhaitham exhibits, through his words and actions in the Sumeru archon quests, at multiple points, a deep understanding of human emotions and thought patterns as phenomena that are at once predictable and volatile. He utilizes this understanding to forge trusting connections with strangers and to anticipate reactions of Akademiya personnel in order to infiltrate the House of Daena and overthrow the Grand Sage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other hand, Neuvillette seems to lack a complete understanding of human emotional tendencies; whether this is due to a strongly held past misconception or simply naivete is still unclear. While Neuvillette is highly sensitive to other people's feelings in the moment once he becomes aware of them, he, unlike Alhaitham, acknowledges a personal failures to understand human thought processes and feelings in general, which forms the crux of his development as a character in the first two acts of the Fontaine archon quests as the true details of the Callas case come to light.
Tumblr media
This is one aspect of Neuvillette's character that I believe contributes to his difference in fan reception from Alhaitham: inexperience and naivete are typically considered endearing traits, and, when paired with his blunted affect and seemingly permanent scowl, lend themselves to a sort of "gap moe"--perceived allure or "cuteness" stemming from a discrepancy in expectations of how a character should act based on their appearance, compared with how they actually behave.
Additionally, Neuvillette, despite his blunted affect, whether by virtue of profession or personality (likely both), appears to care a good deal about what others think of him, as suggested by his willingness to (attempt to) befriend, comfort, and reconcile with the Traveler and Navia.
Tumblr media
As a result, Neuvillette's flat affect seems more superficially acceptable than in the case of Alhaitham, who vocally does not care at all about others' perceptions of him; Alhaitham's strong sense of self-preservation and self-assurance causes him to appear invulnerable, if not threatening, both within and beyond canon. He simply makes no attempt whatsoever to appear polite solely to appeal to social expectations. However, this is not due to a lack of kindness or compassion, as he, while highly logical and rational, by no means believes he is infallible, and readily apologizes to the Traveler upon recognizing that his actions were potentially harmful to them.
Tumblr media
Still, the misperception of Alhaitham as a suspicious person is pervasive enough that other characters and fans alike hesitate to acknowledge him as an approachable and trustworthy person (a fact he canonically uses to his advantage to avoid "unnecessary social endeavors" and lead a peaceful life in which he largely keeps to himself).
Neuvillette might enjoy a similar luxury; his flat affect and intimidating demeanor are indeed practical in a court setting, where they amplify his authoritative presence. Like with Alhaitham, it only takes putting aside typical social expectations and getting to know him on a more individual level to understand that he is not as callous or hostile as he appears. Though the Fontaine story has yet to reveal whether this leads other characters to leave him alone in more mundane social settings, fan opinion of him certainly indicates that players have picked up on his compassionate tendencies due to quirks in his behavior, which was not more generally the case for Alhaitham, at least not until the Sumeru story had progressed much further.
Tumblr media
Given that flat affect should itself be, ideally, not considered a character flaw, and therefore should not be "cured," I'm intrigued to see where Neuvillette's character development goes as his character story, as well as that of Fontaine at large, continues to unfold. For example, Alhaitham grew visibly more comfortable with the Traveler's presence over the course of the story, expressing more personal and emotional vulnerability and even allowing the Traveler to enter his house. I'm curious to see whether Neuvillette will follow similar tendencies.
(I'm willing to bet that he will, given that Genshin Impact is a gacha game and characters are deliberately designed to have their own personal charms to make them appealing, but I can't claim to be able to predict exactly what will happen regardless.)

Note
uhm, I'm not part of a system, but I use a person in my head who can take over for me and has their own personality as a coping mechanism, and I was talking about her to my brother cause they help so much and he said that I sounded like his ex who was part of a system so I did research and I experience practically no DID symptoms. So should I stop using it as a coping mechanism? Is that bad and mean to people actually parts of systems? And if it is okay, would it be bad to use things attributed to DID? (alter, headspace, host, etc) Cause I don't wanna harm people actually part of systems and make it seem like some quirky little thing, sorry for rambling a little I get rambley when I'm anxious
I don't mean to alarm you, so please imagine me saying this with a gentle tone, but what you're describing sounds exactly like a system. A system involves having multiple beings* sharing the same body, each with their own sense of self**, and typically being able to change who has control of their shared body (or "take over" as you put it).
* These "beings" can be persons, or referred to with other terms.
** I can't tell for certain based on your ask, but based on how you said she has her own personality, I find it likely that this person in your head has her own sense of self and considers herself to be her own person, since personality is generally understood to be part of one's self.
However, it sounds to me as though you don't believe this could be a system due to some misconceptions about systems. So, let's go over them.
Firstly, you don't need to have DID, or any disorder, to be a system. While having, quote, "two or more distinct personality states" (headmates, or in the case of how you described her and likely describe yourself, persons) is required to have DID, the reverse is not true; you don't need to have DID to have two or more distinct personality states. You don't need to fit the other criteria to be a system; you'd just need to fit the other criteria to have DID. You can experience this specific symptom of DID without experiencing any other. You can be a system without having DID.
Secondly, there are plenty out there without DID (or other disorders) who are still systems "as a coping mechanism", as you put it. They are known as non-disordered traumagenic or stressgenic systems, and their systems come from needing to cope with trauma and/or stress. Sometimes, these systems are even purposely created as an active coping mechanism, but other times they occur without any conscious choice. It sounds to me as though your system could very well come from similar origins, or at the very least, help you in similar ways.
Thirdly, while "alter" is generally associated with DID, as it comes from the medical term "alternate personality state", the other terms you mentioned have origins from other parts of the system community. "Headspace" is a term used by many regardless of status of system or singlet, and "host" has more roots in spiritual systems than psychological. You are free to use whatever terms you wish so long as you make sure you understand their definitions and associations, and are comfortable using them for yourself – for example, systems with spiritual origins are less likely to use the term "alter" due to its medical connotations making many systems of this type uncomfortable, but there are others who are fine with using it for themselves. There are other community terms that people misunderstand in this same way, so don't feel bad about this.
While most people hear of systems in association with DID, DID is not the only way to be a system. You can be a system and describe yourself with system terms without having DID. And on the flip side, some folks with DID choose not to describe themselves as systems or with system terminology! It all depends on the system/person/plural in question.
I'm not going to outright tell you that you are a system. But I urge you to consider where your rejection of the idea comes from, as it seems to me that it is coming from some easy to make misunderstandings about systems in general.
In short, no, you're not being offensive, bad, or mean for being like a system (or being a system outright) without having DID. You're far from alone in that boat, in fact, so don't worry about it. If this other person is helping you, there's no need to get rid of her – in fact, I'd discourage you from doing so on the possibility that she is her own headmate, as repressing or ignoring one's system generally makes things worse. Instead, I'd recommend gently exploring the possibility of being a system, perhaps looking into the created system side of the community to see if anything resonates with you or if there are resources you would find helpful. My own system found many resources from that sub-community that we found helpful when we were first discovering our plurality, and we thought we were only traumagenic back then!
It's alright to be anxious. But I promise, the only people who would get pissed at you for using system terminology or being like a/a system without having DID are generally people you'd want to avoid anyway. If having a coping mechanism of another person in your head who can take over your body sometimes is improving your life – well, I think it'd just be hypocritical, rude, and pointless of me to tell you off for that!
Hope this helps!

haikyuu!! neurodivergent headcanons 💕
tw: several listed mental illnesses, some of these are solely off of vibes but most of them I have reasons lol note! I do not believe autism is a mental illness or something that is "wrong" with an individual, hence why the title is "neurodivergent" rather than "mental illness". just had to put that out there! to all my neurodivergent babies I love you! a/n: hello! as a neurodivergent like myself (depression, anxiety, ptsd, bulimia, etc etc) i thought it would be really cool to do an analysis on one of my biggest hobbies (psychological illnesses) and relate them to haikyuu characters! some of them have a deeper explanation because I feel so strongly about it.
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD) BOKUTO, hinata, NISHINOYA, atsumu, lev
generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) sugawara, OIKAWA, asahi, yamaguchi, yachi, aone, akaashi, tendo
social anxiety disorder (SAD) asahi, KENMA
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) oikawa
depression (MDD) oikawa, KENMA, kuroo, suna, matsukawa, tendo
autism sakusa, USHIJIMA, kageyama, kyotani, kenma
eating disorder(s) (AND, BND, BED) OIKAWA, KENMA
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) oikawa
borderline personality disorder (BPD) daishou
insomnia kuroo, kenma, osamu
hypersomnia suna
analysis under the cut
it's pretty obvious that bokuto struggles the most to self-regulate, even to others, but I personally believe that oikawa struggles the most with his mental health.
like almost everyone in haikyuu, oikawa is obsessed with volleyball, but he takes it to a point of overexertion and taking his anger and frustration at his own inadequacies out on others.
I really think oikawa's relationship between he and kageyama and he and ushijima are the ones that show how bad his anxiety is
ushijima and kageyama both don't understand the emotions oikawa is feeling which could be written off as them not understanding their talents, but I think it's something more
to me, I feel it is blatantly obvious that ushijima is autistic. he just so frequently seems to be unable to read the emotions of others or takes things literally when it's something else intended. I'm not autistic, though, so autistic community, let me know your thoughts!
bokuto and hinata both have an insane amount of energy, but struggle to be successful in school. sports works for both of them because their focus is constantly needed to be diverted or "all over the place" that it helps them be great players
kuroo is one of those other characters that I feel like I'm reaching to say he has mental health struggles but to me it just comes off in vibes. first of all, any kid with divorced parents should be in therapy so I feel there's definitely some struggles there.
I think kuroo is the type that hides his struggles and pretends they aren't happening. he puts a lot of pressure on himself to be the best at everything he does, and so he feels he doesn't have time to deal with the emotions that leave him feeling empty
kenma was someone I immediately felt was autistic. he has so many key factors like an obsession/hyperfocus on his hobbies and trouble socializing (social anxiety).
kenma has some of the strongest evidence toward my beliefs, specifically in this quote: "I'm not good with people, and I don't want to interact with them. and yet, I'm very concerned about what others think of me." like, tell me that doesn't radiate autistic/SAD vibes!!!!
idk what it is, like inadequacies or what but I genuinely believe oikawa has some kind of trauma. like he's definitely carrying something that so heavily effected him that it controls the choices he makes in life
I don't have much evidence that suna has depression, it's just a vibe because of his mannerisms and what he says. I think it's the kind where it's well-managed, but it shows up in physical symptoms like apathy more than anything.
atsumu gives ADHD vibes solely because of like how all over the place he is and how he can't always seem to properly get out what he's trying to say lol
sakusa is one that to me could be seen as "done with your bullshit" but I think he also hates crowds (like me, I mean who doesn't) and struggles socially probably because of anxiety or autism. not sure!
basing daishou off of vibes, too, because if I'm being honest all I've seen in the show is him having hostile relationships or being on-off with them, though its certain I could be reading too much into it, but that's the fun of headcanons.
do you agree with what I wrote? I would love to hear your thoughts!

HOLY FUCK GUYS. JUST THOUGHT OF THIS ANGST. INSPIRED BY THE QUOTE THAT WAS IN MY “laurance’s calling” MOODBOARD…. LISTEN
what if laur kept a journal. nobody really knew what he’d write in it, but they’d seen it before.
it was a small, tasteful thing cadenza had gifted him when she first visited after he’d returned from the 15 year jump. it was leather bound; with smart green and ruby stitchings. it was closed with a strand of matching leather.
cadenza knew he was inclined to literature—specifically poetry—when he began learning after being adopted into the zvahl family. she had hoped maybe he would rekindle that healthy mechanism of writing he had once known.
he would write occasionally, usually picking up in frequency after big events. however, as the symptoms of the calling grew harder to bear, he found himself writing less, as his mind was far too loud to focus. he got a few pages in, though.
shortly after garroth had returned, and laurance had fled, garroth went looking through his small collection of things. he’d missed so much, and he hoped he could piece together something of what exactly had caused the change in the man he once knew. when he found the journal, part of himself told him not to read any of it—that he should respect laurance’s privacy. but his concern outgrew that hesitation. he resigned to reading the most recent of the entries. (irene knows what other tormented musings he’d find in earlier ones)
what he found was heartbreaking.
not because it was a large, divulging confession—no. in fact, it was hardly anything at all. it was rushed, written in a stressed way, and quite an efficient thought in the cruelest of manners. it read:
“i am an abomination”
stunned, garroth felt his heart lurch. his once so confident companion. reduced to four words on a page before him, unbeknownst to garroth where he may be.
he tucked the journal neatly where he’d found it, and left to go find his lord.

Understanding Daniel Diaz in Episode 4 of Life is Strange 2
Tumblr media
Daniel’s actions at the church in episode 4 are a perfect showcase for cognitive dissonance, and I feel like that goes over most players' heads because Daniel is quote "an ungrateful spoiled brat who never listens" unquote. But it's always been so obvious to me that he's just succumbed to his pain and trauma more than Sean has, and that makes a lot of sense for a sheltered child like him.
Following the traumatic incident of Esteban being shot by the police, there's a profound disruption to Daniel's sense of security and normalcy. This abrupt loss triggers a dissociative response, where he detaches from the immediate reality as a coping mechanism (he doesn't remember Esteban getting shot throughout episode 1). The dissociation is a defense mechanism to shield his psyche from the overwhelming distress: his brain is literally trying to protect itself from disfunctioning, and Sean intentionally feeds into Daniel's illusioned mind in episode 1 to protect his innocence.
Tumblr media
Now when Sean arrives at the church in episode 4 to meet him and then suddenly suggests returning to life on the road, there's a significant increase in Daniel's stress and dissociation. He is still slowly processing the traumatic events of the previous episode, particularly the violent incident at the pot farm where he his powers got multiple people hurt, including his own brother Sean.
At the church, Lisbeth's representing a stabilizing force for him, albeit through manipulation and brainwashing. She provides Daniel with a semblance of security and maternal care (that was never given to him by his real mom), and that perceived stability is what his brain makes Daniel cling to desperately to avoid psychological overload caused by his guilt over the immense pain he's caused others - not realizing that it's simultaneously distancing the people he loves.
Daniel is confronted with conflicting realities while reuniting with Sean: the comfort and stability offered by Lisbeth versus the chaotic and the extremely uncertain life on the road with Sean. To resolve this dissonance, Daniel pushes away the painful reality associated with Sean, considering himself a danger and a burden to Sean and everyone around him. He's effectively projecting his distress onto his big brother, whom, at the moment, he perceives as a threat to his attempt at redemption and his newfound stability. If he went with Sean, he wouldn't get to ignore his guilt at all since he'd be subjected to difficult circumstances that led him to hurt people in the first place. And, most importantly, he'd lose that stability and normalcy which his brain sees as a shortcut to keep Daniel occupied from the stress. In essence, Daniel absolutely despises uncertainty, which Sean is trying to thrust him into. Again.
Tumblr media
Daniel's reaction to keep pushing Sean away also clearly shows that his avoidance of a homeless lifestyle is deeply rooted in his subconscious. His previous life, where he was protected and cared for (and spoiled) by his father and brother, was abruptly taken from him. This sudden loss has left him traumatized, and his actions are a direct manifestation of this unresolved trauma. His outbursts and reluctance to assist Sean are not signs of indifference or lack of empathy but symptoms of his brain's inability to process and move beyond these past traumas.
He is psychologically attempting to revert to a time of safety and happiness that we saw glimpses of before Esteban's death—playing Minecraft with his school mates, celebrating birthdays and Christmas, eating chock-o-crisps and his favorite cereal for breakfast—though this regression is ineffective because he remains a traumatized child who knows little about the dangers of the world. He's been continuously sheltered from danger and hardship, which limits his capacity to adapt to their current situation.
And for those quick to label Daniel as a spoiled brat: it's important to understand that being spoiled can make it harder for children, especially someone in Daniel's shoes, to cope with pain and adversity because they're accustomed to having their needs and wants easily met. This predisposition makes them more vulnerable to trauma, and their bratty behavior is actually a coping mechanism for them, a way of REACTING to trauma with the limited emotional and psychological tools available to them.
Tumblr media
This is why Sean’s remark in episode 4 about the comfort of the past, coupled with his acceptance that he cannot turn back time, is incredibly crucial for Daniel. While trying to convince Daniel to come with him, he says, "If I could go back in time, I would—Dad would get us pizza and snacks, then pick the movie because we would always fight about it. And he always picked your movie. But I can't do that: all I can do now is fight for you". (notice that Sean mentions "movie" and "pizza" which is a direct callback to Daniel's words back in episode 1 when they were sitting on the bench in the woods).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That line alone signifies a pivotal moment for Daniel's development since he gets to confront with the harsh realities of the world—Nick's brutal assault on Sean and the church engulfed in flames—while observing Sean’s resilience during all of it. Sean’s ability to endure and continue fighting for Daniel is serving as a powerful contrast to Daniel’s dissociation, because his actions are underscoring the concept of purpose and resilience in the face of trauma. His unwavering dedication to Daniel exemplifies how a sense of purpose can drive individuals to withstand significant adversity, even when you'd want to sweep the pain under the rug. For Daniel, the realization that Sean’s sacrifices are solely driven by love and commitment begins to penetrate those dissociative barriers indefinitely, and by the end of the episode, he's fully accepted that he can never escape his trauma again: the pain is always going to be a pivotal, irreversible part of him and he just has to "keep on keeping on", as Finn would put it.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, the powerlessness of not being able to change the past, combined with Sean’s persistence in getting his little brother back into his arms, helps Daniel understand that love can surpass pain. It teaches him that even amid chaos, there is always something worth fighting for—new reasons to care and new sources of strength—just like his brother has shown him.

Today's contribution for Disability Pride Month
Obligatory "I don't have this disorder. I'm raising awareness because I'm so fucking sick of women that drink while pregnant bitching about how hard it is being an 'autism mom'". (Autism mom in quotes because a) it's probably not autism and b) the phrase "autism mom" to describe "mom if an autistic kid" is stupid.)
(I'm going to use the term "women" instead of "uterus haver" not to be exclusionary or transphobic. But because I have a severe headache effecting my ability to find words. I am trans-masc. Don't cancel me. I'm not a FART.)
(This is not to demonize people that suffer from alcoholism. Addiction is a very real disability. This is to raise awareness for one of the only known preventable birth defects and hopefully seek help.)
Thank you for the people at @bfpnola discord for checking my post to make sure this doesn't sound eugenics-y.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
FASD (previously known as fetal alcohol syndrome) is a disability that can range from mild to severe dependant on how much the mother drank while pregnant. It only takes one glass of wine while pregnant to cause this disorder
I already know what the fuck this is. Why are you talking about it?
Because your only know about the severe cases diagnosed as fetal alcohol syndrome. You THINK you know what it is. But the reclassification has only come up in like... 2003? Fetal alcohol syndrome is like... the far end worst severity of FASD. And since the new information of it being a spectrum disorder, estimates have the disorder as high as 5% of the population (and I really think it's higher based on some information I'm about to share).
Fine. So what is this... spectrum disorder?
Very good! So this disorder is HIGHLY misdiagnosed as autism. So all those boomers bitching about "the rates of autism going up?" Yeah they probably caused it. Symptoms include low body weight, facial differences, poor coordination, difficulty maintaining attention, poor memory, poor emotional regulation, slower development, poor reasoning skills, issues with the heart, bones, and kidneys, shorter height, shorter head size,
I have all of those things. How do I know it's FASD and not the autism?
That's kinda the issue. The only real way you can know is ask your mom if there's ANY possibility she's had a drink while she was pregnant. I can't stress this enough IT ONLY TAKES ONE DRINK. For instance I have a lot of those issues, but my mom was so paranoid she wouldn't even dye her hair or drink coffee. Like there's NO WAY.
Like what do I do about it?
Mostly get your accommodations met and raise awareness. Like people are still actively drinking while pregnant because they are still under the pre-2000 belief that just a couple of drinks are okay. It's really not. Not to mention most women don't know they're pregnant until 4-6 weeks in. So they shouldn't be drinking if they're actively trying to have a child. Because that increases the risk.
What the fuck. People are drinking while pregnant? I don't believe you.
Each of these claims are linked.
30.3% of all women reported drinking alcohol at some time during pregnancy, of which 8.3% reported binge drinking (4+ drinks on one occasion)
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in 10 (10.2%) of pregnant women in the United States reports drinking alcohol in the past 30 days.
Despite clear evidence that primary prevention of FASD is possible if prenatal alcohol exposure is avoided, up to 80 % of women drink during pregnancy, many before pregnancy recognition
What? Women are drinking while pregnant? That's fucked up.
This is not to say people with FASD are lesser than.
But all of this "curing autism" when most of this "autism" is caused by a pregnant person's ability to stop fucking drinking for literally 5 minutes. THESE WOMEN THAT ARE DRINKING WHILE PREGNANT ARE THE ONES CAUSING ALL OF THIS GIVING "AUTISM". IF YOU DRANK WHILE PREGNANT. IF THERE'S EVEN A SLIVER OF A CHANCE THAT YOUR DRANK WHILE PREGNANT? ITS PROBABLY NOT AUTISM. ITS PROBABLY THIS DISORDER.
I'm just really fed up with all of these "autism moms" that also make "wine mom" jokes and making light of literal alcoholism bitching about how hard it is to be an "autism mom" because YOU'RE THE PROBLEM. STOP LAUGHING ABOUT YOUR ALCOHOLISM AND PUT THE DAMN GLASS DOWN.
But my parents are literally autistic
So they don't really know the generational effect of FASD because the new knowledge is so new. But since FASD is literally genetic issues caused by alcohol while you're in the womb. It's assumed that it can cause issues that are passed down.
But like this diagnosis is SO NEW that we really don't know much.
