Ninjago really here handing out rocket boosters to whoever has the cash.
****
Charley: So you're telling me that for only $100 I can, Right Now, buy a goddamn Rocket Booster and have it delivered to me? With no special license or prior certification needed?!
Nya: Well, yeah, if you want a horribly inefficient, fuel guzzling piece of crap! I might as well just dump out a barrel of gasoline and light it on fire and it'd still be better than buying those $100 paperweights!
Jay: Not to mention the low quality of most boosters marketed as "cheap and no maintenance". It's better to save your money and get a more expensive model, then at least your project won't sputter out mid-flight, or explode before you actually want it to.
Nya: Exactly!
Charley: o.O

Damian doesn't know who Santa Claus is and Danny tries to gaslight him into believing in Santa
Okay but, like, wouldn't even be gaslighting! Santa canonically does exist in the DC universe, I think I remember reading something about him fighting through an army in hell to give Darkseid a single piece of coal once?
So like, Danny doesn't have to gaslight Damian into believing Santa's real, he just has to pull out the proof (Danny has a binder of everything he knows about the Spirit of Christmas for the purpose of when he eventually goes to war with him, Danny hates Christmas so fucking much haha) and show him evidence that Santa is real.
Probably ranting the entire time about how much he hates the guy & Christmas and it's obvious that this is Danny's arch nemesis. His one true villain above all others. Pariah Dark? A nuisance. Dark Dan? Just a tuesday. Santa? That motherfucker is the bane of Danny's existence and he will pay for what he's done (spread Christmas cheer).
And Danny's the newest member to the family. Damian's been encouraged to get to know his new brother and try and bond with him a bit, make him feel like part of the family. So, obviously, the best way to do that is to help Danny in his quest for vengeance.
And of course Tim & Jason end of getting roped in on this. Damian's grown since he's first came to live with his father. He still is a little brat to his older brothers - he's the baby of the family it's his right - but he doesn't actively hate them anymore and can admit when their particular skills would be useful. Tim is the best at strategizing, and Jason is a combat master with access to all sorts of weapons. With all of them working together Santa has no chance, they will destroy him.
Which all just makes me think of something like this happening lol:
“What…uh, what are they doing?” Duke glanced between the chaos unfolding in the family room to where Dick was calmly seated in his favorite chair, sipping idly at a cup of coffee.
“Sibling bonding.” Dick said. There was that specific aura of calm around him that said that he’d already gone through several crisis and all the stages of grief at least twice. Considering the calamity and chaos the eldest batkid had seen over the years - and especially the last few months since Bruce officially adopted Danny and brought him into the fold - it was a bad sign that he’d reached this particular state of Done (TM) before noon. The earliest Dick even woke up was two in the afternoon.
Duke contemplated turning around right then and there - the particular combination of people all excitedly feeding off each other’s feral energy on the other side of the room was a catastrophe in the making he didn’t want to be anywhere near when it finally breached containment and spilled out into the wider world - but unfortunately he was cursed with the curiosity that afflicted all members of the bat clan.
“It looks like they’re plotting to try and kill Santa Claus.”
Dick turned to look at Duke fully for the first time since he’d entered the room. He had the eyes of one that was deeply haunted by the horrors they had witnessed. On the other side of the room Tim was ranting about anti-magic tech while Danny, Damian and Jason argued over what weapons would be most effective against a demi god. There were schematics of what looked worryingly like a rocket launcher looking device that - if the scribbles on the whiteboard someone had drug into the room where to be believed - was going to be rigged to shoot ecto-grenades.
“Danny hates Christmas.” Dick said, and Duke noticed for the first time that his hands around the coffee cup were faintly trembling. “He’s declared Santa is his arch nemesis.”
Duke blinked, glancing over to the others long enough to see Danny start frantically scribbling the words Christmas Nuke on the whiteboard. No one else was trying to erase it. Tim looked worriedly contemplative. Damian and Jason where both nodding in agreement.
He was going to regret this. “But Santa isn’t real?”
Dick’s eyes gained a faintly manic glean, and Duke could faintly hear the sound of porcelain creaking warningly beneath the desperate hold he had on his coffee cup. “That’s what I thought!” Dick said, with enough cheer to make Duke flinch back instinctively. “But apparently he is.” A distinct crack appeared in the cup, coffee dripping down into Dick’s lap. “And apparently they’re going to war with him!”
Well, Duke considered, at least that explained why he caught the four of them burning down the giant Christmas tree in the city center last night.

Honestly tho, this is years off, probably more than a decade, but I hope just because we're getting a Kalosian Legends game, that they don't skimp out on giving Kalos an actually GOOD remake when the time comes.
Especially as far as Team Flare-centric characters go. They had the most potential as a villain team, and XY dropped the ball so bad with them, I would hate for a BDSP-esque remake to do the same. No joke, these guys were most of the reason I wanted Z back in Gen6.
Like, Lysandre is pretty much at the forefront of Kalos' tech and communication, and is a very influential person there, they could do something with Malva running cover-ups for Flare in the news media, the entire organization is probably full of politically powerful people given the wealth of their members (Kalos could be quite corrupt for all we know), they have this secret stranglehold on the region, and it's scary, like no one in Kalos really had any idea how fucked they were until it was (almost) too late. Even the Champion was likely completely in the dark, their strongest line of defense was a total no-show, even when the Ultimate Weapon had been raised.
We can definitely pin that on Malva tho, since she keeps all of Kalos in the dark with her job in the news media, and as a mole in the E4, she likely keeps any sensitive information from Diantha too. And she gets away with ALL OF IT. Diantha never even knows, like even as far as Masters, she doesn't seem to be aware of Malva's true allegiance. And Malva never shows any regret or anything for what she did, she tries to justify it. She's even actively hostile to the player for taking them down, and routinely threatens to burn them up where they stand. (And this is before she becomes an accessory to murder in Masters, like, this woman smiles as Lysandre prepares to have Volcanion flash-boil a couple Rocket grunts. What is wrong with her.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even the grunts, they're essentially a genocidal secret police of elitist fuckheads who don't give a single flying shit about throwing everyone else under the bus so long as they survive, listening in on Holocaster conversations and having some implicit plainclothes agents (showcased more in Masters tho), and given how wealthy the organization is, it would be very easy for them to make problem people disappear. Imagine if they played up that paranoia factor they have, like, you're on their radar getting into battles with them and interfering with their plans on the regular, Lysandre calls you at multiple points (and definitely knows you're the one causing trouble before the player character finds out he's their leader), you're definitely not safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, it would have been neat if Sycamore had been in on it too somehow, maybe a joint leadership with Lysandre or something with how he plays off the man's blatant bloodlust as just him being "passionate"? I was side-eyeing him my entire first playthru. But even tho that turned out to not be the case, it would have been cool if one of them tried to save the other, be it Lysandre kidnapping Sycamore to try to spare his friend from the culling, or Sycamore joining you on the front lines to try to talk some sense into his friend. It was such an interesting dynamic at the time, and it was always such a waste it barely got any development. (At least Masters and Evolutions have made steps to fix that complaint since, but still.)

Idol
The morning sun illuminated the DropShips towering over the encampment and Sigrid was making her way ‘home’. The mess tent was disappearing behind her and the sounds of the camp faded along with it to be replaced by the din of people working around the towering vessels.
She boarded, finding herself in the small human-sized corridors that made the ship feel almost cramped. The feeling didn’t last as she soon found herself face to face with the cavern that was the MechLab. It looked big from up in the overlook, where she could see the entire area, but from here on ground level she didn’t think she’d ever get used to it.
Every single Bay was lit up and most had ‘Techs working on repairing the damaged machines inside. Despite this, one of them seemed cloaked in shadow. No light reflected onto the walkway in front, and from where she just entered she couldn’t see into the Bay.
The moment she could though, it all made sense.
Sigrid blinked.
Siggy opened her eyes and bounced to the mirror. In it she saw a girl with a great big mop of unruly red hair. She sat down and brushed and brushed and brushed, and then started braiding, just like Mom had showed her. Each strand meticulously on display.
Behind her on the wall hung her dream. On the left of the twin posters an impressive looking ‘Mech stepped out of a blazing inferno. Legs bending backwards, striding resolutely forward with two arms and great big rocket pods on its shoulders.
Beside it was a much more sedate but much more interesting dream. The same ‘Mech, now laid out in excruciating detail in an exploded technical view. Sometimes when she couldn’t sleep, she looked over the poster to read all the things she read a thousand times. Where the actuators were, where the sensors were, every single line on the diagram committed to memory, familiar and comforting.
And then she blinked again.
In front of her, black as a moonless night, stood her dream. A towering and proud machine, dormant but steadfast. Almost… alive.
The engineering on the foot in front of her was masterful, if she looked close enough she could see every piece of articulation, not a rivet out of place despite the well-worn look. Her eyes drifted from the trifold feet to the massive calf actuators and then further up. To the upper legs, the sleek torso and the arm actuators ending in dual hardpoints.
She couldn’t see the missile banks, but she knew them. She could see every familiar component, every single caption from her posters on Utrecht.
It didn’t just live up to her expectations, this machine exceeded it.
Blink. Work to do.
Sigrid synced her tablet with the docket and looked over her assigned tasks.
MechTech: Sigrid Guntran Initial assignment: Timber Wolf ‘Death Knell’ Bay: 8 Work order:  right torso; replace armor plating right torso; general maintenance Full systems check Notes: Sigrid, sorry to put this on ya last minute, but I know you can do it! I’m trying to keep low so the MedTechs don’t get me. -Karrie
She looked down at her tablet, and then up at her dream. Part of her wondered if this was real, and another part supplied that she was currently working on an SLDF DropShip, deep in the Rimward periphery, on a hostile planet, under the command of a beautiful avian woman so old that the show she was on with the other Clan totem warriors – who were also here – was considered a historical record.
Working on an actual Timber Wolf didn’t seem so odd anymore.
She climbed up to the catwalk and found the Bay controls. From up here she could see the majesty that was the Timber Wolf from its rear angles, a dark void contrasted against the bright industrial lighting of the MechLab. She knew every angle, every single curve of the machine’s panelling by heart.
As the platform on the ‘Mech’s right side was lowering into position, she moved around to follow it. Panning down from the side she could see where the torso armor had taken the hits. Large chunks were warped or missing, open wounds showing the delicate internals that thankfully seemed to be in good shape. How good a shape she would have to find out later. Right now, the armor needed to come off.
She knew the automated arms could be more efficient, but they weren’t as accurate as handheld power tools. A machine of this caliber deserved those. She let the winch above her come down. Before connecting the straps onto the armor she placed a hand on the wounded ‘Mech.
“We’ll get you fixed up, don’t you worry.”
She hooked the straps to the attachment points in the armor and tensioned the lines. Bit by bit she carefully detached the panel until only the tension from above held them in place. Then it was just a light pull until it started moving.
She slowly guided the crane to move the panel out of the way and safely to the floor level of the Bay, out of the way of the walkway. A tap or two on her tablet flagged it for repairs. A forklift would be along soon.
With the panel out of the way she could see the underlying internals, sleek steel pipes contrasting harshly and beautifully against the black of the surrounding panels. And she knew them.
She knew the coolant from the lubricant from the hydraulics from the electronics at a glance, the labels only confirming what she already knew. Every conduit flowed like a symphony around the frame.
Around the places the armour had been gauged, she looked a little closer. Signs of damage would be hard to spot among the labyrinth of angles, but a visual inspection was part of the troubleshooting process. Her eyes danced over each line, following them from one end of the panel gap to where they snaked back into the ‘Mech’s interior.
All looked clear and secure, Clan engineering ensuring that even in the event of armor breach, the primary systems would not be easy to take out. Let alone the secondary and tertiary.
The systems looked undamaged, so she let the platform carry her down, just in time to see the panel being driven to the manufacturing wing. She followed along, not minding that she couldn’t keep up with the forklift. It’d give them some time to offload before she showed up. The difference in time between walking and driving was significant when dealing with this much space. Sigrid enjoyed the walks though, the Bay in operation was a soothing cacophony of all the different tools interacting with every material under the sun.
The armor repair itself was repetition more than anything. Identify a damaged subpanel. Remove the damaged subpanel. Find a suitable sized replacement. Shape the replacement. Attach the replacement. Repeat.
The capstone was the painting. It needed to match the existing color scheme, and match it well. Fresh paint also looked different from worn paint, but that was nothing they couldn’t handle. In the brochure it had never said that being an artist was part of being a MechTech, but the surprise had been a pleasant one.
The paint fresh but no longer wet, she followed the forklift back to Bay 8. It was already hoisted up and ready to be placed. She considered the automated tools, but for installation the accuracy was even more important than for removal, and handheld tools were king.
The work was honestly calming to Sigrid, alone up on the platform, grafting new skin onto the wounded ‘Mech in front of her. Bit by bit she circled around the edge of the panel until everything looked like she never touched it at all.
She climbed back onto the catwalk where her equipment was stored. She took out her neurohelmet and opened the compartment on her toolkit where she kept her soft tools. She knew them by heart, but looking through them helped remind her which ones she had available should the need arise.
The hop from the catwalk to the top of the Timber Wolf was not a big one. The matte black paint on the armor made it a little harder to judge. What made it really hard to make the jump though, was that Sigrid knew what she was about to do.
She was about to hop on top of a Timber Wolf. She was about to open the latch and lower herself inside. She already knew what it would look like, she knew the view from the cockpit, she knew the exact dimensions of the enclosure.
And that made it all the more daunting.
Gathering her will in her mind and her grip on her neurohelmet, she took the hop.
She was standing on top of a Timber Wolf. She was working on it, it was her work. It was her dream. She unlocked the hatch and allowed herself to slip inside.
Inside the ‘Mech it was quiet. No hum from the reactor, no sound arrived from the outside. There was just Sigrid, trying to calm her breathing, and the terrifying, loving embrace of a dream.
Her mind knew the startup sequence of a ‘Mech. Her fingers danced this dance before. And yet she couldn’t stop trembling as she toggled the first switch.
Bay power to auxiliary generator.
The high-pitched whine of the generator filled the cockpit. It was reassuring, it was terrifying, it was exhilarating.
Flick.
Auxiliary power to emergency lighting.
The lights around her came online. Dim compared to the view through the cockpit, but plenty bright enough to see by.
Auxiliary power to diagnostic systems.
Screens flickered to life. White text flew over a black background as the ‘Mech rose from slumber. Not awake yet, but no longer asleep. Sigrid listened to the whine and the soft clicks performing a symphony of self-tests. The ‘Mech checked its pressures, checked every single one of its connections in a lightning-fast choreography of every system it could access.
The text scrolled by faster than she could read, but she wasn’t looking for text. She was looking for colors. She was looking for the orange that signified a warning, the angry red that signified a fault. Her heartbeat punctuated the soundscape as seconds ticked past.
And then nothing.
No more text flying by, nothing more to focus her attention on. Just a single phrase that was both the best thing she could have read and the most disappointing.
Self-test: 100% Warnings: 0 Errors: 0 System status: OK
No need to diagnose further, it would not be time well spent. It would be time spent with her dream, but that didn’t matter.
She powered down the ‘Mech, returning it to cold and dark status. Ready for when it would be needed again. She picked her neurohelmet from where she set it down and held it in her hands. She stared at the visor.
Reflected in it she could see a woman with red hair in a tight bun, sitting inside the cockpit of a Timber Wolf. Her dream.
She sighed and rotated the helmet around. With trembling hands she placed it on her head.
She wasn’t plugged in.
The ‘Mech was powered down.
She had better things to do.
Siggy closed her eyes. It didn’t matter.
She had her helmet on
Made from an old football helmet, Utrecht Kodiaks logo covered with silver tape
She could see the canopy in front of her
Made from a laundry basket, tipped on its side
She knew exactly where the missile pods were
Two cardboard boxes, placed on the sofa behind her
She was in the cockpit of a Timber Wolf.
She was in the cockpit of a Timber Wolf.
The beat of her heart and the sound of her breath were the only things accompanying her for this moment in time, etching itself into her memory as her visor slowly fogged up without the air circulation connected.
She took off her helmet and held it in her hands, staring into the condensed visor one last time. There was work to be done.
She extracted herself from the cockpit and closed the hatch beneath her.
The hop from the ‘Mech onto the catwalk was both easier and harder than the other way. She landed with a soft impact of her work boots.
She placed her helmet with her toolkit and sat down on the upper catwalk, out of sight of anyone working, staring at her dream.
She raised her tablet. Four taps was all it took.
Work order complete

Review: What a collection of jams! This is boppability to the highest degree— masterful mixing, impeccable vibes, and a happy atmosphere. Seemingly dissonant hits, skips, glitches and bits are interspersed into an otherwise straightforward set of drums, groovy basslines, and melodic vocals. Despite the seemingly conflicting set of ideals on display, the album never loses its harmony. The artists know exactly how to master these tracks to be smooth, seamless, and make this balancing act seem effortless. I wish I had more to say other than “listen to this album” but oh my god listen to this album.

pls infodump about colress i am Interested 👀
i know basically nothing, but hot blonde doctor man pretty
I am not very good at things like this but here is a long post i wrote on the bus
I find colress so fascinating cause he does his studies out of just . Wanting to know what happens, even if things get hurt. But he isn’t truly evil, I believe.
In B2W2 he is a Team Plasma Boss and fights alongside them just to further his research. In SM/USUM he is still a researcher, but he is not “evil” per say. He still looks into what brings out the true strength of Pokemon through Z-powers since those are Alola’s gimick thing, but I do believe he was mentioned in XY to be looking into mega evolution!
In Alola he actually helps the player out in some cases by giving them a TM and important items! In USUM I think he is apart of the whole Necrozma group who are trying to get it back ro normal. Thats when he gives the player an end-game item,, he also dresses like a fridge in Alola and i can’t tell if he’s freezing cold in there or scorching hot … oh and he is in the battle tree as an encounter!
In the Rainbow Rocket special episode in USUM he appears to help the player out as well! Though he is invisible and in hiding until something major happens so he needs to reveal himself to help, when the alternate world Ghetsis (Team Plasma’s old leader) holds another character hostage, Colress literally sends him back with a device he made. Right after saying how much he HATES him, no matter what universe he is, he will always hate any type of Ghetsis. good!
I am not too knowledgeable on the manga since I don’t really read it, but I do know he gets arrested so I think thats really funny.
I forgot to mention, he is a steel type specialist! Steel types can be pretty bulky so they can definitely become a challenge when you battle him unprepared! I do know he is a tech role in Pokemon Masters,, and he also took me several months to get because i have the worst luck EVER!!!
There are probably things I missed or didn’t get right, so if anyone can correct me please let me know !!! I just Really REALLY like colress.

Team Rocket HQ in the anime has a bizarre history.
First off, in the early days there was no firm, consistent direction given as to how it should look like, and so in “It’s Mr. Mime Time”, “Showdown at the Poke-Corral”, and the movie Mewtwo Strikes Back, it looks different even when it’s supposed to be the same building.
Tumblr media
After Mewtwo destroys it, Giovanni relocates to a vacation resort property he owns until a new HQ is constructed in the same area. We see it in the episode “Dues and Don’ts”, and its design is clearly a smaller variation on the design of the original HQ shown in “It’s Mr. Mime Time”, which I take as meaning to suggest that it was the “correct” design and thus it was both renditions of the scene where Mewtwo destroys the building that got its look all wrong.
Tumblr media
However, in the second episode of the Advanced Generation series we suddenly see that Giovanni appears to be in some sort of hotel again, suggesting that something is happening with Team Rocket HQ. And sure enough, come the Battle Frontier arc we see that the HQ near Viridian City has been abandoned in favor of a new, larger HQ in a rocky cliffside area.
Tumblr media
Given how bigger and more advanced it appears, I suspect that it began construction after Mewtwo’s destruction of the original HQ, and that the smaller replacement one was just a temporary measure until the real new HQ was completed. This HQ is used for the remainder of the anime, so you would think no more weirdness happened. But you would be wrong.
Tumblr media
In Best Wishes, the HQ has been redesigned! The building that was there before appears to have been firmly encased inside a high-tech steel tower, making it look like some kind of military fortress...which, given the interior redesign and Giovanni’s current choice of outfit, is precisely the intent. The last we see of it at the end of the series, it still looks the same. In the XY, Sun & Moon and Journeys series, we only see inside and never outside. But now, in the penultimate episode of the Aim to Be a Pokemon Master miniseries, we see it again and...
Tumblr media
It’s right back to its old appearance! I guess after Giovanni’s bid for conquest in Unova failed, he had all of the protective military steel plating torn down while the TRio was off in Kalos.

Character Headcannons/Breakdown - Rook Raccoon
Tumblr media
Okay, I'll be the first to admit this gets a little sad in some parts. I was going through it when I wrote this, what can I say?
* Her first name is supposed to invoke the chess piece. It's because she's basically used like little more than a game piece by Pyko and Gideon.
* Her last name is an homage to my dad's last name. He died unexpectedly while I was writing "Stand By Me", so I made her last name sound like his. Her taking Rocket’s last name at the end was a quiet way of me saying goodbye to him.
* She represents "found family" gone toxic. Each of the stories I do in this series is about love. "Flowers" is romantic love. "Star-Man" is the love that comes with loss. "Stand By Me" is about love and family. The Guardians are one of the best examples of found family that's done well in MCU, so I wanted to show what the inverse of that was.
* The school she goes to, Gideon university, is based off predatory colleges that were rampant during my college years. I had a friend over 150k in debt to a game design school with these practices.
* She's a sharklike alien because I really like sharks, you guys. Also I love Guillermo del Toro films, like most self-respecting weirdos and oddballs, and I think "The Shape of Water" is one of the finest love stories I've ever seen.... The more I examine my interests the less shocked I am that I ended up where I did.
* She's aro ace! The more I realized "oh. This isn't a one-off fanfic, this is going to be a personality trait of mine now" the more I wanted to be mindful of different representations. I also have a very longtime friend who is aro ace, and she keeps me really in touch with the fact there isn't a lot of rep out there. So it's a love letter to her as well.
* She's a professional V-tuber who goes under the name "Catfish".
* She's more of the software side of tech, whereas Rocket seems to favor hardware. I figured this would differentiate her skillset just enough that she'd be able to stand out as a unique character without too much overlapping skillsets from existing characters. This is something I try to be mindful of as well when creating OCs.
* Groot is one of her best friends and they do a lot of gaming together.
* Rocket DMs a game with them and a few of the other Guardians in it.
* She loves going all-in for holidays because her parents never really did.
* Her culture as a whole is very cold and very "get it yourself" from a VERY young age. Eggs take five years total to hatch and if the hatchlings struggle to get out of the egg, it's considered a sign that they aren't strong enough to survive in the outside world.
* There's a time where this would have been very relevant on their world, but modern progress has made this point moot. The harsh conditions of Icathia no longer exist, but the world has been slow to change from its harhness. Needing to rely on others is still seen as a moral failing.
* A lot of this culture comes from me remembering stories about friends getting kicked out at eighteen and being very, very angry that I was also eighteen at the time and couldn't do much to help them. Rook was my little way of being like "I'm sorry I couldn't do more to protect you. I was a kid too." I also saw a "fun craft idea" that was a "countdown" to when a kid turned 18 and would get kicked out of the house and if that didn't give me the BIGGEST anxiety attack to look at.
* Meti's first time going to jail was for Rook. He and Rocket were both arrested for brawling with her biological parents. <3
* Mara, her daughter, struggled to break out of her egg. Rook didn't think twice about helping her break out of it. She was going to break the cycle she came from
* It took her a LONG time to realize her parents and family loved her unconditionally. When she became a mother, it helped things really click for her
* She has Caldon's equivalent of a Masters in software engineering.
* Some of her favorite Earth music are things like City Pop and Future Funk. Also a huge Vocaloid fan
* Loves the beach and the water. If she isn't working she can be found hanging out by one of the ponds at the nature preserve
* She still struggles with her anxiety a LOT, but she's working towards getting better. She still didn't sleep for three days when Mara started school.
* She loves hanging out with Skye and helping her with some of her creative pursuits. This can include things like wiring LED lighting for costumes Skye makes.
* She lives in the apartment next door to Rocket and Meti. She makes enough for her own place, but she just loves being close to her family
* She's still puzzled/fascinated by mammals as a whole.
* She's always up for board game night

Falloutober 2023 - Day 15
"Keeping Warm"
Prompt by - @falloutober
Word Count - 1264
A moment alone. The nighttime was a wonderful for personal time. The empty red rocket station was a my safehaven. People knew where I was, but most knew this was where I went to work on something or other. The building had survived well over the last 200 years, the only prior tennants a bunch of Molerats that had been delt with before I had arrived. A generator thrumed outside, steadil providing power to the place. Where once stood the pumping stations, now a robotics workshop sits. ADA had given me the blueprints to it when I’d helped her deal with the Mechanist. The garage contained all the important tech. My bike, in desparete need of repairs, Danse’s power armour, which he’d technically stolen from the Brotherhood, along with an assortment of other technology and weaponry that needed somewhere secure to store it.
I walked to the back office, a small room I’d converted into a living space of sorts. A bed against the back wall, a desk, some shelves, my work clothes. Everything a home needed. Not that this was my home. It hadden’t been fit for a settlement, but me and Sturges used it as a testing ground for less than safe experiments. It became one of the many safehouses I’d established for myself across the wasteland, though it was the one frequented the most.
A shiver crept up my spine. This building was never warm. I’d done everything I could to try and fix the pre-war heating. Nothing. Sturges didn’t even know where to start. If we’d used the workshop, it wasn’t much of a problem, but I hadden’t been into the garage today so the chill remained in the air.
Sitting by the desk I turned on the terminal, one that had existed here before me, and looked over the trading inventory I’d been building. It was all stored on a holotape, the master copy was on me at all times but I kept copies in several key locations to the Minutemen. Preston had been impressed at my organisation, but it was nothing. Trailing through the data, and updating the who, what, wheres, and whys for all the settlements was a chore that needed doing and I had gladly volunteered to do it.
Something moved behind me.
My hand fell to my pistol, ready to draw it from the holster and kill any intruders. Silently, I stood from my chair and made my way to the door. Placing my back to the wall on the left of the door I waited. It could have been nothing, but this close to sanctuary on my own I couldn’t take that chance.
“Jules?” A small voice echoed from the corridor, I released all tension I’d been holding. It was Dana. Moving away from the wall I shook my head, she was going to be the death of me.
“I still don’t think this is a good idea.” A second voice piped up. Dana’s younger brother Shaun, who had seen me as a parental figure from the start, walked up to the counter near the office as Dana entered the garage.
I stepped out from the office, my footsteps naturally light. Leaning against the counter, I made my presence known. “You don’t think whats a good idea?”
Shaun jumped, almost falling over, as he realised I was behind him. Dana came running out of the garage as the sound of her brothers destress, only to greet me with a vibrant smile. “Jules!” She exclaimed, running around the counter and jumping at me. I grabbed her and pulled her into a hug.
“What are you two doing in here?”
Shaun, now recovered from being scared half to death, moved around the counted and gave me a light hug, “We wanted to know where you’d gone.”
I smiled, they were both so sweet. “I’ve been right here. I’m not going to be going very far.”
Dana released her hug, “I know, I just…” I’d only left them in sanctuary, under the watchful protection of Preston, MacCready, and Codsworth. “You didn’t tell us you were leaving. We got worried.”
I pulled her back into a hug, “Did you atleast tell someone where you were going?”
All I received were sheepish looks, from both of them. Shaun looked at the floor while Dana pulled a face and tried to move away from me.
“We…” Neither of them were going to admit to sneaking away.
“They’ll work it out before long. And they know where I am.”
“So we’re not in trouble?” Shaun asked.
“No. No you’re not. You’re both still in one piece and unharmed so I think the others will forgive you for this.”
Dana smiled, pulling at her jacket. Well, my old jacket that she’d taken from my hideout in the prior week. She shook slightly. Shaun’s hands grasped at his arms. As the night got darker the cold that had crept up on me earlier had started to get to the young adventurers.
“You guys look cold.” I looked at the clock on the wall, the one I’d matched to Dana’s pipboy time, “Is it too late to take you back to Sanctuary?”
Dana shook her head. “Please, we wanted to spend time with you. Can we stay here for the night?” She pleaded.
I looked from her to Shaun, both cold and tired. I could have stood my ground, told them this place was no where near as safe as Sanctuary, but I didn’t have the heart.
“Fine.” I gestured with my head to the office. “I’ve got some blankets in there.”
Running the short distance, they both collapse onto the bed. Shaun takes the blanket off the bed and moves himself into the corner of the bed while Dana sits expectantly on the edge. Waiting for something. As I close the door, an attempt to keep some heat in, I watch the two of them. Dana pulled the jacket further around her, using it as a makeshift blanket. Shaun rested his head against the wall, he wasn’t used to the wasteland like Dana was.
I went to sit at the desk, my work long forgotten, when Dana spoke up, “Can you read something to me?” I gave her a smile and looked above the desk at the shelf of books. Many of them were technical journals and documents I’d hidden from the Brotherhood, but I had my comicbook collection stored up there purposefully out of Dana’s reach. She was almost as light fingered as I was when it came to comicbooks. Reaching up to the shelf I picked up the top comic, La Fantoma, one I’d brought with me from the Mojave. One she’d definitely not seen before.
Moving over to the bed, I sat beside her. She lent against my arm, resting her head against me. The shuffle from my right, along with the sudden pressure against my right arm, told me Shaun had done the same.
I’d barely started reading when I registered that they were both asleep. Wrapping in their separate blankets and cuddling into me. It was quiet in the building. While I couldn’t sleep, it was calming to know those two were safe. That they felt safe around me. MacCready would come looking for them before too long, but until then, the world was still. None of the threats mattered. Pushing the comic under the bed with my foot, I shifted my arms without disturbing them so I could comfortably give them both a hug. Parenthood had never been my planned path. But nothing ever went to plan.

Chapter 14 is out! Inside, we catch up with Valerie after following Danny all weekend. Things are starting to get spicy in the story as the plot heats up after our little break. The chapter for Saturday is also in Valerie's perspective, and after that, we are back to switching POVs between our two protagonists.
Still not convinced to read? Have a sneak peek below!:
She leaned on the board, relying on her armor to hold her up against the pull of gravity. Every part of her felt like she’d fought a possessed aluminum bat, leaving bruises and swollen joints along the way. Her head ached as if someone was squeezing it like a grape. She’s given up sleep the last three days to cover the entire greater Amity area so Phantom could have his sick leave, and now she was paying for it. She landed on a roof in the restaurant district, opposite Rossi’s Place, and leaned into the cold brick wall. Even her suit’s warming system was on the fritz after running nearly three days straight. She could feel the frigid fingers of the wind clawing at her skin, or the breath stealing stab of frosty air on every inhale. It kept her warm enough to continue patrols, but they were uncomfortable. She pulled up the map, taking in the array of blinking incident reports and closing her eyes against the throb of pain looking at the display caused.
The suit compensated, dimming the glow somehow while retaining the clarity, but the entire system chugged, slow and stuttering, through the process. She’d even noticed visual glitches and errors in the display. I guess every computer starts to bug out if it hasn’t been shut down in a while. She hadn’t let the suit sit idle for more than half an hour the entire weekend. After Phantom had taken off for his sick leave, the incident numbers had exploded. Worse, even though the previous groupings had been docile, these incidents tended towards the aggressive. That meant being woken up from a dead sleep to fight a gas range turned flamethrower, or keep a bus from crashing off a bridge taking all its passengers with it. She’d even wrestled a couple of pieces of dock machinery gone rogue and tossing heavy steel containers hither and yon, while eating through her supply of rockets and grenades.
She’d need to get a resupply from Mr. Masters soon, and with her suit malfunctioning, she dreaded the conversation. One little glitch in front of him is all it would take for the slimy creature to dig his talons deeper into her and her suit, and with the going rate of misfires lately, she doubted it could hold off for a whole visit. She hoped a complete reboot and some proper rest would cure the issue, and she realized some of this was her own fault. Her brain was connected to the suit. So, if she was tired, worn thin, and distracted, it was less responsive and slower on the draw. She moaned when a new aggressive report popped up in Phantom’s sector near Beverley’s. The tech at the mall, what remained of it, were large heavy machines or wigglers they’d previously cleared as docile. An incident over there signaled a hard fight.
A notification popped up in the top right of her visor, flashing the forum profile of Phantom. She pulled it up as she made her way towards the mall. He’d better not be asking for an extension.
“Hey Red, sorry I’ve been gone so long. I’m back on patrol and got everything in my zones tonight. I know there’s a lot of stuff flashing, but I promise I’ve got it. Just grab the stuff near the Nasty Burger, and leave the rest to me. Get some rest.”

For the September prompts, could I request Lemon Tree and Kayo please? Somehow the idea of these two together is singing to me...🍋🖤
Hiiiii. I really wanted to be able to do this for you; please forgive me for this not being my strongest of pieces. I did have to add Gordon to get Kayo to speak to me, and the lemons are there even if the tree is not. <3. They are siblings, and peers, and they respect each other. Hopefully it shows. Thanks so much for the ask and the support.
I like the headcanon of Gordon calling Kayo "Tin" so I borrowed that from Nutty with her permission. :D
Characters: Kayo, Gordon
Words: 870
Genre: General
Universe Notes - Military!Gordon, TAG.
Warnings: Mentions of Alcohol Consumption (responsible)
***
“Hey, Tin?” Gordon quickly plopped into his mouth a sardine from the charcuterie display he’d ordered as his antipasto and, as Kayo grimaced at his manners, he at least had the good graces to swallow before he continued.  “I’m going to need you to relax.”
“I really don’t understand how you can eat that.”
“They are a bit salty,” he mused, swirling on the flavor still in his mouth. “But I can’t just leave the little fishies there uneaten. It’s inhumane.”
“Yeah, ok.” She turned back away from his feast of fish, gazing out to the expanse of ultramarine beside them.
It was to be his home the next few days – the Gulf of Naples that is, beautiful waters in Mediterranean blue, watched over by what was left of the towering Mt. Vesuvio visible in the distance. For Gordon’s experience in the depths of the sea, the bay was a relatively shallow estuary. But it wasn’t about how deep the body of water went. He was more concerned with what creatures called the place home, in this instance which fin whales – and one razorback in particular he’d been tracking as part of his research dissertation.  (D.Sc. meet Gordon Tracy!)
Gordon called it a “surface trip” which didn’t mean surface at all really, just that he’d be arriving by boat instead of submarine and diving within the capabilities of standard research tech instead of the Brains’ tested and certified deep-sea gadgets of International Rescue. It would be enough for him to listen to the whale song, and if he was lucky, maybe he’d get to see his boyo.
Since the excursion was to depart tomorrow out of a little town in the outskirts of Sorrento, arriving a day early gave Gordon the time to reorient himself to the normal sleep schedule of the time-zone and decompress from being constantly on call as they were. He’d been in Italy for only a few hours, but the warm wind and the friendly lapping of blue on the shore calmed him, so his spirits were high despite the nerves around the importance of this trip.
His companion was less thrilled by the break. Virgil had been unavailable, Scott was busy with Tracy Industries reports, and Alan could hardly fly him over in a space rocket, so Kayo had offered to drop him off. It had taken some heavy pleading, a bit of chore reallocation, and eventually Kayo agreed to stay and leave the next morning.
A worthy exchange. His siblings deserved a holiday. And once he saw an opportunity unfolding to spend some time with his sister, he couldn’t let go of the idea. They didn’t call him a master of pranks for nothing – though this was less of a prank and more of a gentle coercion.
Their first of their entrées arrived, for the traditional trattoria included two within the standard four-course meal, and Kayo nodded kindly in thanks. Gordon beamed, a “Grazie!” while he moved his plate of fish to the side to make room for his pasta.
“I’m relaxed,” she told him after a while only once they’d dug into their meals. “Really.”
Gordon eyed her deliberately, mindlessly twirling his pasta with his fork and watching peridot scanning the room even as she said it. “I think you think that. I can tell you are still on look out.” He saw her start to panic and added, “I can only tell because I know you.”
She frowned, shrugging. “Maybe I am. Someone has to do it.”
“It doesn’t have to be you all the time. We are safe; promise.”
“Yeah?”
The skepticism was evident. He was almost offended. Almost.  “Yeah.” It had been a long time since his brief service in WASP, but the training gave him lessons for a lifetime. “Closest exit is that one” – he gestured his fork towards the wall to their left – “there’s a gentleman behind me that obviously knows who we are but won’t dare approach because you keep giving him the stink eye, our server is oblivious which is kinda’ nice actually, and the owner has come by twice. Dice is out on that one, but he’s harmless. Now, agree to get some limoncello with me.”
“Gordon- “
“We’re in Italy; it’s required.”
“It’s a digestivo. That means after the meal.”
“It’s alcohol,” he challenged, grinning. “That means when the mood strikes. I won’t push if you don’t want any, but lemons, Kayo. Lemons.”
“Yeah, yeah. You make lemonade.”
“Nuh-uh. You make limoncello!” He was pleased to see her laughing, even if it was at his expense. Kayo was good at her job, too good, and she took after workaholic Scott in ways Gordon didn’t necessarily believe were the healthiest of habits. He knew what it was like to be “on” all the time. It would cause burn out. Always did.
They placed their additional drink order and the bottle was brought out with the timing of their second entrée as they requested, with minimal questioning. The locals were kind about the whims of their tourists.
“So where did you stash Shadow again?”
Kayo swirled the narrow glass to twirl the liquid neon, and she narrowed her eyes at him with a gleam. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
