We are aware Pocahontas (95) is not historically accurate (and not popular on this site) but we couldn't justify leaving her out and there was only so much space so we tied in Brother Bear (03) knowing it wasn't ideal but hopefully better than leaving one of the out.

Camp Rock was almost matched with HSM but for personal sour memories we did not. besides there is so much more HSM relevance than CR relevance.

Now we do expect to see some of y'all mention are animal buddies like Oliver or Lady here, they would've been 12 but we needed the "other" option. (Lady is New England and Oliver is in NYC -plus Dumbo is an American circus)

finally we have realized most of this media is pretty clustered and not the most recent, but it happened this way and we're not sure which to switch out to diversify.

2024-03-11 week "Good Cop, Bat Cop" update

We're now very close to the opening of the "Good Cop, Bat Cop" tournament, a poll tournament to decide the Batman media character who is basically a cop.

So far, there have been 24 submissions.

Dick Grayson is leading the number of submissions.

Close behind him is Jason Todd.

Behind him is Bruce Wayne, who is followed by Barbara Gordon.

Ace the Bat-Hound, Brother EYE, Cassandra Cain, Tim Drake, Lucius Fox, Tim "Jace" Fox, the Joker, Jacob Kane, Kate Kane, the Penguin, and Professor Pyg are currently tied.

Submissions will remain open until the final round of the tournament.

The match-up bracket will be posted at least a full 24 hours before the release of the first round of polls.

The main event will be the "Batman and Family" bracket, featuring Batman's team of crime-fighting buddies.

After the "Batman and Family" bracket, a number of finalists will go on to a general Gothamite bracket featuring other Batman characters such as villainous rogues, Brother EYE, Jacob Kane, etc.

as my beloved friend @theosrose said yesterday when we were talking, the sheer lack of any scenes between stede and ed this season makes it feel very strange, and since i've got nothing better to do today, i've decided to compare the amount of screen-time stede and ed share in season 1 vs season 2*

* i mean scenes in which they are alone, or in company but the focus is only on them (like the restaurant scene)

season one:

ep3: their first meeting (25:17-25:38). total: 21 seconds

ep4: opening (02:22-02:42), "who's this mary then?" (09:51-10:48), stede wakes up (13:41-14:31), aux wardrobe (14:57-16:56), "do you wanna do something weird?" (18:36-21:11), "we need to be a lighthouse" (26:51-27:38), ending (29:43-31:10). total: 535 seconds

CONCLUSION:

while the amount of screen time in percentage is similar between the seasons, s2 has significantly fewer scenes with stede and ed. additionally, the time they spend together per episode in s1 is much longer than in s2, and the scenes are stretched out throughout the episodes evenly. even during s1ep8, in which they share the least amount of screen time due to being separated, stede and ed still share 5 scenes, unlike s2ep5 which separates them for the longest amount of time (20 minutes!)

so far in s2, stede and ed share way less scenes than in s1, and when they do, they are shorter and often oddly spaced. for me, the best laid out episode is episode 4, while the worst is episode 5. interestingly, they share the least amount of screen time (after ed wakes up) in ep6, despite having the love scene in it. in my opinion, most of their scenes in s2 feel less earnest than in s1, and are so short i can barely savor them. this is ultimately the result of hbo cutting off two episodes, but also an issue of giving the crew too much spotlight, making stede and ed's plot line feel rush and poorly planned post ep3.

i have no doubt the finale will fix most of stede and ed's issues, but the scarcity of the scenes they share (and their contents) make their arc feel watered down to me, like the writing crew keep beginning to say something meaningful but getting cut mid sentence

The “Wagon Train” Regulars

John Herrick McIntire (June 27, 1907 – January 30, 1991) Film and television character actor who appeared in 65 theatrical films and many more television series. McIntire is well known for having replaced Ward Bond, upon Bond’s sudden death in November 1960, as the star of NBC’s Wagon Train. He played Christopher Hale, the leader of the wagon train (and successor to Bond’s character, Seth Adams) from early 1961 to the series’ end in 1965. He also replaced Charles Bickford, upon Bickford’s death in 1967, as ranch owner Clay Grainger (brother of Bickford’s character) on NBC’s The Virginian for four seasons.  (Wikipedia)

Robert Fuller (born Leonard Leroy “Buddy” Lee, July 29, 1933)  Horse rancher and retired actor. He began his career on television, guest-starring primarily on Western programs, while appearing in several movies. In his five decades of television, Fuller was known for his deep, raspy voice and was familiar to television viewers throughout the 1960s and 1970s from his co-starring roles as Jess Harper and Cooper Smith on the popular 1960s Western series Laramie and Wagon Train, and was also well known for his starring role as Dr. Kelly Brackett in the 1970s medical /action drama Emergency!  (Wikipedia)

Benjamin Franklin "Frank" McGrath (February 2, 1903 – May 13, 1967)  Television and film actor and stunt performer who played the comical, optimistic cook with the white beard, Charlie B. Wooster, on the western series Wagon Train for five seasons on NBC and then three seasons on ABC. McGrath appeared in all 272 episodes in the eight seasons of the series, which had ended its run only two years before his death. McGrath's Wooster character hence provided the meals and companionship for both fictional trail masters, Ward Bond as Seth Adams and John McIntire as Christopher "Chris" Hale.

After Wagon Train, McGrath appeared in 1965 and 1966 as Uncle Lucius in nine episodes of ABC's situation comedy Tammy, with Debbie Watson in the title role and Denver Pyle as the grandfather. Thereafter, McGrath was a guest star on two network westerns, as stagecoach driver Neddie Henshaw on the 1966 episode "Linda" of NBC's The Virginian and as Buster in the 03/13/1967 episode "Plunder", of ABC's The Big Valley.  (Wikipedia)

Terry W. Wilson (September 3, 1923 – March 30, 1999)  Actor most noted for his role as "Bill Hawks", the assistant trail master, in all 267 episodes of the NBC and ABC western television series, Wagon Train, which aired from 1957 to 1965.

Wilson appeared in more than thirty-five films and television programs between 1948 and 1981. Many of his early roles were uncredited. On July 2, 1953, he was cast as a stagecoach guard in episode 121, "Woman from Omaha", of The Lone Ranger. In 1956, he had another uncredited role as a robber in the ABC/Warner Brothers western series, Cheyenne, the first television western in an hour-long format, starring Clint Walker.

After Wagon Train, Wilson appeared in several other westerns, including ABC's short-lived Custer and Hondo in 1967, in four episodes of NBC's The Virginian/The Men from Shiloh starring James Drury in 1970 and 1971, once on CBS's Gunsmoke in 1972, twice in Richard Boone's Hec Ramsey in 1973 and 1974, and as Judge Lennon in the episode "Counterall" of Buddy Ebsen's CBS detective series, Barnaby Jones.  (Wikipedia)

2024-03-25 "Good Cop, Bat Cop" update

The "Good Cop, Bat Cop" tournament—to vote for the most "cop-like" Batman character—begins soon. This is your last chance to submit additional contestants. In about 24 hours or so after this post, submissions will be closed for additional contestants. No more contestants will be accepted, and you will only be able to submit additional propaganda for existing contestants.

The main event will be the "Batman and Company" double-elimination tournament, featuring the costumed crime-fighters under the banner of the Bat. (After the "Batman and Company" tournament, a number of advanced contestants will go on to a more general single-elimination tournament open to other Gothamite/DC characters such as Ted Grant, villainous rogues, Brother EYE, Jacob Kane, etc.)

Each poll will include a work-in-progress Google Doc of submitted propaganda (including evidence and arguments) complied for each contestant. So far the best examples are the Google Docs for Kate Kane and Dick Grayson.

Sequence of the agenda: last chance to submit more contestants (you are here) → bracket match-ups are posted → first round of polls are released.

By the way: if anyone is interested in conducting a survey on the demographics and views of Batman-related fandom, then the @goodcopbatcop blog will happily promote your survey. Just send a message through the ask box, or tag @goodcopbatcop in your post. Here are the results of a "Batfamily" fandom survey, from 2014.

Tally count: So far, there have been 30+ submissions.

Contributors have rallied to push Jason Todd back into the lead, ahead of Dick Grayson.

Behind them is Bruce Wayne, followed by Barbara Gordon and Duke Thomas.

Ace the Bat-Hound, Helena Bertinelli, Cassandra Cain, Tim Drake, Tim "Jace" Fox, Kate Kane, Duke Thomas, and Damian Wayne are currently tied.

Brother EYE, Lucius Fox, Ted "Wildcat" Grant, the Joker, Jacob Kane, the Penguin, Alfred Pennyworth, and Professor Pyg will be part of the "epilogue" tournament, competing against a certain number of advanced contestants from the "Batman and Company" tournament.

Propaganda submissions remain open.

WIP Wednesday!

This week, a WIP I'm working on for my second fanniversary, although it'll be a little late.

My very first OFMD fic, posted 19/03/2022 - The Etiquette of Pirate Courtship - in which Ed tries to woo Stede like Stede deserves.

1st fanniversary - Just One Day Out Of Life - in which Ed tries to arrange a nice beach picnic for Stede as part of a romancing plan.

For my 2nd one, I have Ed scheming to take Stede out on a nice nature walk/treasure hunt Ed has arranged!

“Still, I suppose that leaves the rest of the day to ourselves!” Stede beams at him. “We can finish unpacking the crates the crew brought us?”

“How about we enjoy the water for a bit?” Ed suggests, already wandering down to the water and rolling his trousers up just below his knees. He hasn’t given up the leathers entirely, they’re great for when he’s doing DIY around their house, but the loose, linen trousers have been far more comfortable. “And finish unpacking later?”

“You’re right, we’ve got plenty of time for that!”

Ed smiles at Stede’s cheerfulness. They won’t have time for that, but Stede doesn’t know it yet. He looks at the waves washing up on the beach. Something glints in the sunlight not too far from where they’re walking, and he casually heads towards it. He already knows what it is.

It’s the bottle he asked Pete to throw overboard as they left on the Revenge. Inside is a treasure map he got Lucius to draw. And the X marks a spot where he talked Izzy into burying some treasure. Izzy had grumbled about it, but had eventually done as Ed asked.

It’s the 31st of August. Ed’s been meticulous about keeping track of the dates ever since he and Stede started the inn. He told Stede it was to prepare for when they got guests who made reservations, and Stede’s been happy to leave him in charge of the calendar.

The real reason is because Ed didn’t want to miss the anniversary of the day they met. Yes, Stede had been unconscious and close to death most of it, but he’d spoken to Ed before passing out. It counts.
