❥ i’m not sure how being sephiroth’s sister would necessarily work considering he was an “experiment” of jenova, and from my knowledge after lucrecia gave birth to him she was crystallized in the crystal caves? but if we’re ignoring that and maybe that didn’t happen or something like that idk, i think it’d be pretty hectic, especially if you were also an experiment of jenova’s cells.

❥ both pre and post sephiroth would love you dearly. pre sephiroth would make it a mission to visit you as much as possible and would try to fit some time in his schedule to go and hang out with you. usually, he’d go take walks with you or if you like food then he’d be insistent on making a trip of trying a bunch of new places.

❥ he is honestly your biggest defender— although i don’t expect a lot of people to disrespect you while a close-to-six-foot first class SOLDIER is looming right behind you. i dont know if he’d let you out of his sight all that often when you’re around him, his instincts just kinda kick in so he’s following you around like a dog.

❥ if you were known by genesis and angeal crisis-core era, and genesis hits on you or even tries to flirt??? ooh sephiroth is right behind you in an instant. he is NOT letting genesis get with you at all, i’m sorry in advance to the self insert x genesis readers that had this idea in mind but i def don’t think that seph would be okay with you dating his friends. even angeal, whom he trusts very dearly and knows that he wouldn’t try anything with you, would have sephiroth feeling iffy.

❥ if you had “suitors” or if you were popular with the boys ( and maybe the ladies too if you’re just THAT suave ), ooh sephiroth would have a heart attack. he’d want you to choose who you want, of course, but be prepared for sephiroth lurking around every corner like a cat. if you bring your partner to meet him? he’s gonna look like the scariest mf regardless if he’s trying to be or not.

❥ he especially doesn’t want you to do anything with his job. if you have jenova cells or if extraordinary strength then he might feel a little better if you were to be involved with the SOLDIER program or shinra, but if you’re a civilian then he’d rather not get you involved with his duties. there’s too much on the line and he can’t risk you getting hurt, also another reason why he prefers to keep you on the down low or for him to only visit you.

❥ also another thought, but i just keep imagining zack flirting with you or meeting you and thinking you’re absolutely GORGEOUS ( because if you’re related to sephiroth.. you gotta be pretty let’s be honest that mans so beautiful ) ( we don’t talk about hojo though, there’s no way he’s related to seph. vincent gotta be the daddy ), but then once he sees that sephiroth is your brother he literally goes WHITE. starts trying to subtly be more friendly and lowkey apologize for his behavior.. spoiler alert; zack is not subtle.

❥ now whatever you do.. don’t imagine sephiroth meeting you the day before heading out to nibelheim. whatever you don’t, think imagine you guys walking at night as he talks about how worried he is for his friends, and how he thinks zack is going to do. and whatever you do, don’t imagine reminiscing after the village burns down, your mind trailing back to the last hug he gave you before he found out what he really was.

❥ if you were to still stay with post nibelheim sephiroth, he wouldn’t let you out of his sight. he can’t lose you at all, not now— not now that he knows you’re the only thing he has left. he’ll go through the motions of being very cold to you sometimes and then being very overprotective

❥ he’d come home one day from only the lord knows where, and wake you up in the middle of the night. and when you finally awake, he wouldn’t let you go. i imagine he’d feel conflicted. sephiroth was dehumanized from birth and ostracized from a normal life as he never met his true mother lucrecia and hojo had no interest in claiming him other than for his own benefit as a scientist. if you were dealt with such things as well, or maybe you were separated because sephiroth was the superior experiment, it wouldn’t matter; sephiroth contained these feelings that he didn’t know how to feel or express himself about.

❥ he wouldn’t understand why he felt this way, especially having no sort of concept of family brought to him within the early years of his life, but all he knows is that he has you

Behold, the fruits of my labor: A complete Dreamwidth (and similar site) custom mood theme!

(For complete image descriptions of individual moods, see the Rat Moods tag on my Dreamwidth account and click through the posts. Sorry for the extra complications, but it is not possible to fit every description in under four thousand characters.)

An explanation: Dreamwidth and similar sites, like its "parent" site LiveJournal, have an option to add "moods" from a drop-down list to every post you make. Dreamwidth itself hosts a number of default mood themes, but if you have a paid account, you have the option of using a custom mood theme with images you choose. I've wanted to make one with pet rats for years, and this year I finally did something about it: I started the Dreamwidth community "Mood Theme in a Year", with the goal of completing an entire custom mood theme between January 1st and December 31st.

...I may have rushed ahead a bit 😅

Rat lovers may be interested to see some of the natural behaviors I've included here, though I've also gone "off-script" and included quite a few more anthropomorphic behaviors as well. You might also be interested to discover how some of the moods relate to each other!

I plan to make this mood theme available for general public use in the near future! I do want to make a few alternates first; I already have three other skin tone variations for Touched (a black hooded dumbo rat being touched on the head by a person's finger), but I want to make a variation of each of them with ring splints; I also want to do a variation of Intimidated (a trembling gray rat with a calico cat sneaking up on it) and Rushed (that same rat running away from the cat's swiping paw) with an owl instead.

So yeah! That's something I've been working on recently. I had a total blast making it, and I'm super pleased with how it turned out 🐭💗

I feel like creators tend to put bits of themselves into their characters--are any of them like that for you? Theoretically, I love them all.

They're all a part of me in some way.

I've discovered over the years that I just can't handle characters I can't relate to. Most specifically, Billy, Mandy, and Grim are major facets of my personality. I purposefully related them to Freud's Id, Ego, and Superego, but they're all very specifically also a part of who I am. Billy is my fun-loving lust for freedom from schedules and consequences. Mandy is the part of me that realizes that Billy will destroy us all, so there must be structure. Grim is just trying to live his life. He wants to watch TV and pet cats, but life (unlife?) just won't give him a break. He's the viewpoint character to my Asperger's.

Irwin is the sad-sack/misguided hero redeemed, which is always a trope I love.

Eris is specifically the Discordian Eris, but also the extreme end of that Billy lust for freedom and the will of the RNG gods. (Good gravy -- my current BG3 playthrough)

Nergal is my love for Lovecraftian/Howardian Mesopotamian deities as has-beens.

Jeff the Spider (quite literally me at the time of his inception) was Too Nice, and therefore a sucker.

Hoss Delgado is the knowledge that if you gaze too long into the abyss... you end up with a chainsaw for a leg.

Then (because this is a collaboration) you've got characters who are primarily created by and representative of other people. For example, Fred Fredburger was created by C.H. Greenblatt. Sperg was created by Gord Zajac (as was Hoss, really). Boogey was created by Spencer Laudiero. All of these artists infused some piece of themselves into the character.

This is (IMO) where it gets fun. It's the ultimate Role Playing Game. It's childhood play made manifest. I've got my Luke Skywalker figure and you've got your Darth Vader figure and we've got two COBRA H.I.S.S. tanks and a Muffy from Battlestar Galactica and we're gonna hash this shit out.

Ideally, I think I'd want a "Simpsons World". A world where there are zero (or as close as possible) extraneous characters. Everyone represents something and everyone matters. I was so close with B&M. Fingers crossed I get there one day.

A completely unrelated note, since the queen mother and PIF are big cats in your verse(PIF being half), would catnip effect them?

Big cats can be effected by catnip and there are some cats that develop a tolerance to it. Catnip was discovered around the late 1600s and surprisingly is in the mint family. And on contrary to dogs it brings calmness and relaxation.

So for the queen mother, I imagine Erlang brings back this nice looking bunch of flowers that were near wild mint that relaxed Quan to the celestial realm. Jade Emperor saw it and asked Erlang if he has some more bc the flowers look nice and thought it'd make a nice bouquet to send to his wife. Unfortunately once it was presented to her she face planted on the catnip. She has developed a tolerance so it wouldn't be used against her.

PIF accidentally stumbled upon catnip by accident during DBK’s imprisonment and ended up rolling around it eventually developing a tolerance to it to ease her depression during the time.

What about Redson, Nezha, Bai He and other cat related characters in the AUs?

Catnip and Catmint are in the mint family, and are related to Snapdragons - something more obvious when it's in bloom. Some cats are more affected than others, my own elderly house cat doesn't care for it but loves silvervine.

Other plants that cause a similar reaction in cats are Valerian (Honeysuckle family) and Silvervine/Matatabi (kiwi family). Hilariously, all are used frequently in traditional Chinese medicine, Catnip for cough medicine, Valerian as a sedative, and Silvervine to prevent hypertension. Silvervine sticks are also sold as teething aids for cats.

I love the imagery of Erlang grabbing some catnip cus Quan seems to like it (catnip calms dogs down), and the Jade Emperor asking for some as decoration in a bouquet for his dear Tiger Lily.

The Queen Mother looks at her husband's bouquet, and after an adoring smile, shoves her entire face into the flowers whilst purring loudly. The Emperor at first thought he just did really well when his wife then proceeded to pounce on him hungrily. One lesser known side effect of catnip - makes larger cats randy. XD

Xiwangmu embarrassed by her reaction, at first thought it was an attempted poisoning or seduction. Li Shou, the goddess of cats, overheard the incident and was there to defend Erlang from punishment.

Li Shou: "Mao Bo He! It's a breed of mint beloved by my subjects! It blooms very briefly and the oils help keep biting insects away." Xiwangmu: "But what of my... undignified reaction?" Li Shou, giggling: "Oh thats normal! In order to spread its pollen, the plant causes a euphoric reaction in cats, and since the oil of the plant is released when bruised - it encourages you to rub into it." Xiwangmu: "Goodness! However, if it's meant for your subjects, why am I affected?" Li Shou: "It seems Mao Bo He is indiscriminate which type of cats it affects." (*the two look over to where Erlang and some of the celestial agents are watching Azure Lion rolling in the remaining flowers.*) Li Shou, laughing: "No matter the size!"

The Queen Mother doesn't want the plant used against her in the future, so she secretly has it planted in her Jade Pond garden so that she can develop a passive resistance. The first couple of years were a little awkward though - it appears half her daughters are affected too!

Funnily enough, catnip oil has been used as an insect repellent for cattle since ancient times - so it's not out of the realm of possibly for DBK to have some on hand. Imagine slapping on some sunscreen and your gf start rubbing all over you. DBK wouldn't be 100% upset by PIF's reaction, but he'd make sure to switch to citronella or similar so he doesn't accidentally dose her in future. PIF appreciates his consideration, but keeps some around for fun. >:3

PIF canonically "hits the bottle" in Jttw when her marriage is on the rocks, so I could see her "hitting the 'nip" as well to deal with the pain of losing DBK during his imprisonment. She's managed to wean herself off of it, and bars Red Son from having any out of fear of him developing a similar reliance.

Red Son accidentally gets exposed to catnip when he joins Mei and MK on one of their snack runs. He passes by the pet section and gets entranced by a catnip toy. He buys it for himself, and while his reaction isn't as strong as his mothers, it brings him calm. He gets grounded when his mother sniffs it on him.

Nezha is more snake-like in his lineage, so catnip just smells nice like how lavender does to humans. He does however, have a stronger reaction to valerian - he took some to help with insomnia and he was out of it for the rest of the day. He chalks it up to a weird drug side effect.

Azure Lion has the most intense reaction to the 'nip - male lions especially become big kitty cats when exposed to it. He got introduced to it in the celestial realm on accident when Erlang brought it in. And you know he sneaking into the Empress's garden to roll around in it when no one's looking. The rest of the Brotherhood found out about this reaction when DBK had put on some insect repellent, and Azure got a little silly. It became a bit of a prank to leave catnip in Azure's armour for a bit to humble him. He hasn't been exposed to it in a long time, so if he happened to find a even a tiny cat toy he'd be out for the count. No plans for universe domination, leader of the rebellion too high rn.

Bai He is part cat-demon in the TMKATI au, so she's involved in all his catnip talk. Kittens actually don't get effected by catnip like the adults do till they're teenagers, so Bai He likely doesn't have a reaction until one day her parents find her face buried in Sandy's cat toys. The adults agree to keep catnip out of the house and the restaurant, but they keep some Silvervine sticks to help Bai He with her teething adult fangs.

And ofc Mo is a kitty-kitty cat and just rolls around in the nip like a cat do.

so, the most ironic thing happened yesterday.

to preface, i only just discovered the "phoenix" coloring thanks to your blog. thought it was really cool! never seen a cat with that color before! welll, then i go to petsmart yesterday and no shit, not even exaggerating, there was 100% a phoenix cat there for adoption. i compared him to photos you shared and from other resources and he matched it completely!!

they had him labeled as buff, but there was another buff cat right above him and the differences couldn't have been more obvious. i think they were just like "well he's kind of light orangish sure lets call it buff why not" lol they often get their colors wrong on the descriptions. it's such a remarkable color in person! i wish i could have gotten a picture but the kennel staff had taken him out to clean his cubby and play with him and i had to get going 😭

i mean obviously without genetic testing i can't confirm it but he had all the phoenix traits and i've never ever seen another cat even close to that before.

what's the rarest color/mutation you've ever seen on a cat in person??

The phoenix mutation has only been documented in the Maine Coon breed, in particular a specific cattery in Russia. So I can say pretty confidently the cat you met was not phoenix

It is possible that he was some flavor of pseudo-cinnamon, though, a sort of… “class” of mutations of which phoenix is part of. I don’t know if they’re actually related but they have a visually similar effect and tend to get grouped together under the pseudo cinnamon label.

I don’t know if what you’re describing fits, though. Buff is the same as cream, I don’t know why it’s such a popular descriptor compared to the proper term - I guess it’s sort of the same thing as gray being more commonly used than blue?

As the name suggests pseudo-cinnamon cats have a more… cinnamon appearance, despite being genetically red? Usually, presumably. So a pseudo-cinnamon for adoption is more likely to be labeled as “brown” or “chocolate” or something, I think.

So the cat you saw wasn’t phoenix… but could have still been pseudo cinnamon, or something else entirely! Unfortunately no way to know without pictures.

As for the rarest I’ve seen…

We had a cat come in who I’ll never truly know the color of but the best I can figure is maybe caramel? She was definitely dilute but her coat didn’t look like any of the standard dilute colors.

We also have a patient who’s cream with a somatic mutation!

Are we dealing with alchemists looking for The Philosopher's Stone?

(I will be referencing partially to the ARG, most importantly to the so called Klaus sheet that has german version on categories the OIAR team is using, and some light spoiler to The Magnus Archives, so beware).

We're four episodes in and cross-referencing each episode so far, there seems to be few things that connect most of them:

an orchestrator

a medium

an obsession

a transformation

Each episode so far mentions some type of third party being involved in the incident: Harriet Winstead mentions a "consultant" that was supposed to help her see Arthur, RedCanary mentions getting harrased by an anonymous stalker, Daria commissions Ink5oul for a tattoo, Dr Samuel Webber mentions seeing his dead wife "Maddie" who stops him from tampering with the transformation (could be a hallucination, but could also be somebody using his delirioum to impersonate her) and today we've got a mention of a "giftgiver" who gave The Violinist the Violin.

Additionally each incident mentions some type of specific medium the characters came into contact with: The Box, The Violin, The Ink (cross referenced in Klaus sheet from the ARG), The Garden (as in plants in the garden). The exception being the Harriet, but we don't know yet what "caused" ressurection of Arthur. This is important, because in TMA items and "mediums" weren't actually all that common, it was very often stressed that relics were medium for the fears to use directly (with people only doing their bidding), not to be handled by others as a medium.

Lastly each episode talks obsession and/or transformation and oh boy, let me tell you about bunch of guys historically obsessed with tranforming stuff through different mediums:

"It's not very suprising, alchemical symbols are everywhere throughout the podcast!" you might say. True, but let's take into consideration, what excactly is a goal of an alchemist? Well the answer is quite simple and there is actually three of them. The Three Goals of Alchemy are:

To turn base metals into noble ones

To discover the recipe for a Philosopher's Stone

To find the Elixir of Life that gives eternal youth and defies death

All of them refer to some type of recipie of method, so where are the recipies? Under our own noses. The recipies are the DPHW catalogue and the database Freddie is sending the incident reports to is an alchemical cookbook! Each entry is categorized something like that:

Some specifications:

$ - are a conbination of numbers 1, 2 and 3. They do not always appear in threes, sometimes it's just 3, sometimes 12 (as in 1 and 2) so forth. These has been widely theorized to be related to the The Tria Prima, a group of three materials which occupy a position of prominence in alchemy: Sulphur(🜍), Mercury(☿) and Salt(🜔) or as they are also characterized Soul, Mind and Body. If we assign each of them a number with 1 being Soul, 2 being Mind and 3 being body, they so far align with the main "components" of each incident or realms they deal in.

R - either appears or not, it was theorized this is a RANK and that previous files were simply misfiled by Sam, but to me it also could be REGIA as in Aqua Regia (🜆) where we are to assume the R was added to the previous element (Aqua (🜄) + Regia (R)). The meaning behind assigning some some incidents the rank of regia has yet to be explained though.

& - these are letters C, BC, B, AB, A and S signifying a rank (or rang in the Klaus sheet) . Lets ignore that S for a second, but they seem to be stages and half stages, well there can't possibly a concept of four stages in alchemy? Let me introduce you to the Magnum Opus (Great Work). Basically each alchemical project went through four stages: nigredo (black), albedo (white), citrinitas (yellow) and rubedo (red) with rubedo specifically signifying a great discovery was made and Magnum Opus was a success, but it does not necessairly mean an alchemical goal was reached.

To summarize, numbers one C-A signify stage of the project, with S, that appears once on mostly redacted cell in the Klaus sheet, signifying that not only the final stage was reached, but the project has been a success.

This could mean a finished Magnum Opus is out there, developed in the field of the Soul and related to the mysterous Mr. B.

# - these numbers are still a mystery, I do have some theories myself, but to summaries I think they are grades and some type of combination (I think it's either 9999, 0000 (as in all 10s) or perhaps 7777 (7 being the most important alchemical number)). Basically a specific combination could imply the specific discovery could be categorized as a Philosopher's Stone. What that could mean for the narrative? We will see, but I suspect it's an alchemical equivalent to an eldritch nuke in this universe.

Last thing to support my theory, the OIAR logo. The lion and the unicorn are obviously symbols for the United Kingdom, as this is a government office, and the words undearneath are "we will not falter" (probably reference to the paranormal incidents they deal with) the rest though?

As to what the Magnum Opus are in TMAGP, each incident has an item associated with it, I noticed that the characters do not get corrupted by people directly this season, but through the use of items like ink, instruments, plants.

okay. hear me out. murder x killer. "true crime". (platonic at least)

murder, despite hating him at first, starts to sympathize with killer more and more internally, discovering bits about how he TRULY is, such as his cats (to which when killer isn't around he buys them treats and toys). killer doesn't see murder act this way bc murder can't bring himself to show his affection other than in secret.

murder still treats him the way he used to, passive aggressive, but never outright HATING him.

Yeah, I know we all like to say that Murder would hate Killer or whatever, but the only thing I remember ask-dustale saying about it was that he wouldn’t like that Killer joined the human (if he even knew about it), and that he’s be wary of Killer’s LV and Determination and is more likely to just avoid him and likely just want Killer to leave him alone. Be passive aggressive.

I remember reading on the blog that he’s probably more likely to just hate himself more than hating other Sanses—not to mention how Killer is just basically a different person entirely. Not even really recognizable as a Sans except for the skeleton body.

I think Murder would just more likely be disturbed that he can’t really relate to Killer much at all; Killer gives him nothing because he’s just not really interested in emotional connections or being related to. {not to mention the whole, ‘torturing and killing others on the orders of another without any guilt or remorse or hesitation’ and ‘murder viewing killer as belonging to nightmare’.}

Not while he’s in Stages 2 or higher, and even Stage 1–when he’s more noticeable as a Sans—is still not exactly like Sans. Killer is strange and creepy, he behaves far too much as if he’s human or as if he doesn’t even know what he is anymore (shouldn’t it be obvious?), and Murder doesn’t really know why. He can make some guesses, but Killer would never confirm anything.

I don’t know how much Murder would reasonably be able to find out about Killer—he tends to hide so much of himself and things he does seem so contradictory (emotionless, yet still attentive to cats? Treats him and possibly Horror as if they’re more akin to prey/tool/pet, yet shows the actual animals more respect than he does them? So sociable and clearly able to adapt to others, yet he has no actual friends or connections?)—but I can see something akin to what you’re describing.

I don’t think Killer would care at all about if Murder hates or sympathizes with him or not, maybe he’d find it interesting if previous Dusts and Murders beforehand did but this one doesn’t.

Perhaps he’d make it a mission to try and make Murder hate him, just to prove to himself that just about everyone does and no one will change their minds on it at all and all this Dust needs is a push, attempt to provoke Dust.

And when Murder gives him nothing, he might initially dismiss Murder as “boring” or with something resembling disgust. If other versions of this Sans previously viscerally hated him, this one might draw his curiosity a bit. But once that can’t hold his attention anymore, he’d probably just revert back into his apathy regarding him.

It’s actually kind nice to think about how an emotional bond may be able to be formed between Killer and his possible teammates.

Probably only through Stage 1 would it be possible to form something more emotional, which in turn could garner Stage 2’s attention, fascination or curiosity like it did with Color. That could maybe become something more, if he cared enough to see it through or felt safe enough for it. [not to mention that effect Color could have on how Killer views, treats, and behaves towards others. color is a big factor in challenging his worldviews and beliefs, without forcing him to accept or reject anything he doesn’t want to or agree with.]

this is going to be written on my own experiences and how i wish people would react, also how i feel when other people see them, yet i tried to make it as relatable as possible :)

You were a mess, you were aware of it.

You grew up being a shy, introverted person. You went unnoticed most of the times. But as time passed and you grew up, you wanted to be something different, you really wanted to be like those extroverted people you saw, those who can talk freely to anyone, those people that could bring life to anyplace. And you really tried to become one of those people.

But you couldn't, for some reason something was always missing, and it would always make you wonder, "What, exactly, is wrong with me?". Yet you managed to keep your sympathetic made up personality to those who didn't noticed those awkward moments where you didn't knew what to say and said something weird instead, they either didn't noticed or didn't cared. Despite all of that, you were still trying. And as you grew up and talked with more people and made more mistakes that learnt from, you started being more and more convincing.

But sometimes, late at night, you would remember how your personality was made up, and you knew that if you started to act how you really were, you would go unnoticed again. Those late night moments when the little voices in your head calling you names were a little more loud than usual led to certain scars in both your arms. And as you kept growing up, new ones appeared.

You never cared to hide them, when they were few, you would say you got them at a battle, or a cat on the streets attacked you. Once they were enough for it to be suspicious, people were too afraid to ask, it was obvious that if they did asked it was going to be a really awkward conversation, so they would just ignore them. Somehow some people didn't even noticed they were there, you were friendly, smiley, happy and could talk to anyone, how could someone so joyful do such thing? Every now and then you would get someone who would ask why you did that to yourself, but you would just change the topic awkwardly.

As long as no one mentioned them, you would forget about them, remembering only on those nights where new ones would become present. But during the day, when you were putting your little act in front of people, convincing enough to even convince yourself that you were actually happy, you would forget about them, and even see them as something stupid you did when you were feeling "kinda" sad.

That morning you were helping Baizhu collect herbs for the pharmacy, you two met each other not too long and discovered you really like each others company.

The first time you talked with each other was when Qiqi put on a commission to the adventurer's guild to some made up fruit that she believed it existed and Baizhu played along with her to see how far she will get. Katherine asked you to go check if it was an actual serious commission and once you asked Baizhu about it he asked you to play along for a bit.

Some weeks passed and now you were keeping him company collecting herbs in a kinda dangerous zone, you were there to keep him company and help him in case he got in trouble.

At some point, he asked you to hand him his basket where he was putting all of those herbs that you didn't even knew the name of but was too scared to ask in case he would think you were stupid.

As you reached your hand, palm facing up, totally forgetting about those silly scars of yours, he paused his movements letting out a small "Oh" sound. Keeping a neutral expression, he didn't look surprised, annoyed, sad, pitiful or anything like that, just his usual face.

You cursed mentally, but didn't move, with time you realized people would only pay more attention to it if you desperately tried to hide it. You kept your hand in the same position, praying that he would react the way everyone does: absolutely not caring.

But your body froze when he took the basket away from you hand at the same time he grabbed your forearm to avoid that you moved it away from him.

He caressed the top of your arm gently, feeling the texture and relief of the scars. You wondered what the fuck was he doing before you remembered the fact that he is a doctor.

"I might have some medicine to help the scars fade... And these ones seem rather... Recent" he finally made a different expression, furrowing in annoyance for a second, and you couldn't help but to feel like a bother.

"There's no need, Doctor Baizhu, they're... Actually old and I don't think they can fade any more, also I don't want to be a bother to you." You said, quickly and stumbling into your words, something that happened to you when you're nervous and something that would giveaway to people that you were actually really awkward with words.

He pushed one of those scars that were slightly purple, and as the pain became present, you tensed your muscles. Baizhu, of course, noticed that.

He looked up to you, a calm small smile on his face as he finally let your arm go.

"You're going to keep me company on the way to the pharmacy, aren't you? I'll bandage them with some healing herbs once we are there, it will be just a second, you won't be a bother". He reassured you. You just nodded slightly, giving up on making him leave the topic and just hoping he will forget the entire deal once he does what he wants to.

Both of you walked together in silence, and you couldn't help but think that you completely ruined any form of relationship with him, totally convinced that from now on, any attempt to interact with him was going to be awkward. Telling yourself that if you were actually happy and extroverted this wouldn't even be happening to you.

"Oh... I forgot to pick violetgrass..." He looked at you, with his typical polite and friendly smile. "Can you keep me company to pick some, maybe... In 3 days?" He asked you, and as those silly thoughts that he hated you disappeared, you nodded, now with a small smile yourself. "Sure!" You said, genuinely happy.

Once you were in the Bubu Pharmacy, on one of the rooms for his patients and sitting at the end of the bed while he was on a chair in front of you, the awkward ambience slapped you in the face once again. Your back arched, your knees to your chest and the arm he was treating extended in front of you.

A small table was next to him, with everything he needed. Some herbs for the scars and a different bunch of others for the ones that were more fresh, so they wouldn't open up again. You really liked the pharmacy, it was quiet and people usually wasn't around there for too long, it had nice views and everyone that resided in it was rather quiet, except Changsheng who just had to made a statement every now and then.

The herbs gave a nice aroma that reminded you of him, you couldn't help but think that you were going to smell like him for a while, and as the warm light of a candle and a bit of sun filtering through one of the windows illuminated both of you, you felt like you wanted to cry. It has been a while since the last time someone cared for your scars in a normal manner instead of pitying you or demanding explanations or just assuming the worst and asking you why. At the end of the day, you didn't knew why either.

But he wasn't demanding anything neither asking any questions, he just genuinely wanted your arms to feel a little better. Make your heart feel a little better.

You switched arms as he finished the one he was working with. "If you ever do it again, come see me right away, alright?" He seemed to think about his words for a few seconds before smiling at you with a slight chuckle. "Actually, come see me before you do it. Let's talk it over instead". He said calmly, staring into your eyes, making you feel save. He definitely wasn't judging you or thinking that you were insane. He wanted to help.

Your shoulders relaxed, and you let your legs hang at the end of the bed as you stared into his eyes as well. "I will." You said finally, smiling at him.

Here's How I Would Write Miraculous:

Season 1: The Love Square Arc:

It's all the same like canon, but halfway through, Marinette and Adrien start to discover who they are and develop feelings for one another. Not X likes Y instead, but as both citizens and partners.

Season 2: The Main Five Arc:

Marinette and Adrien still have feelings for each other, but now we focus on Alya, Nino, and Chloe. Alya and Nino begin to develop their relationship, and Chloe, of course, begins to develop as a character and become a better person. They're still Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Queen Bee, and they become closer to Marinette and Adrien. Chloe even begins to act nicer to Marinette, not just for brownie points, but as an act of genuine kindness once she learns how important it is to be a hero.

Season 3: The Agreste vs. Agreste Arc:

This is it. This is the final battle between Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Hawk Moth with their allies. This is where Adrien finds out about Hawk Moth being his dad. This is where he's part of the final battle along with the Main Five. This is where Master Fu retires on his own will and passes down the guardianship to both Marinette and Adrien. This is where they both become a couple. Alya, Nino, and Chloe are allowed to keep their miraculouses permanently. Gabriel is arrested. Nathalie has custody over Adrien. The Buttlerfly Miraculous has returned.

Season 4: The New Guardians Arc:

Marinette and Adrien are now co guardians. They agree to have a team of their own with their allies. Marinette gets Alya, Mylene (as Polymouse), Rose (as Pigella), Alix (as Bunnyx), Juleka (as Purple Tigress), Nathaniel (as Caprikid), Marc (as Rooster Bold), and Luka (as Viperion). Adrien gets Nino, Chloe, Sabrina (as Miss Hound), Ivan (as Minotaurox), Kim (as King Monkey), Max (as Pegasus), and Kagami (as Ryuko). Nathalie is the main antagonist and vows to finish Gabriel's job for him, but starts to have doubts the more she grows closer to Adrien. In the end, Nathalie is tricked by Lila, and she steals the Peacock Miraculous and exposes Nathalie as well.

Season 5: The Lila Arc:

Lila becomes the new Peacock holder and attempts to steal all the Miraculouses from Marinette, but it becomes a challenge now that Gabriel and Nathalie are both gone. Disguising herself as Cerise, she manipulates Marinette's classmates against her, except for the main four (Adrien, Chloe, Nino, and Alya) and with their allies now gone, it's up to them to expose Lila and get back the Peacock Miraculous. In the end, Lila is exposed and sent back to Italy. Meanwhile, two new villains arrive and are probably related to two certain Miraculous Holders.

Season 6/The Final Season: The Family Dynamic Arc:

Felix and Zoe debut and are the twin siblings to Adrien and Chloe, respectively. They are hints that they may have a connection to both the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses and that the Bourgeoises and Agrestes may have something to do with it. Do they redeem? Possibly.

The morning light cast shadows over his wife’s face. Her eyes were shut, lost in a dream. He ran his hand over her long hair, making her sigh. His eyes traveled from her face to her swollen stomach. He loved seeing her pregnant. It was the first dream she had told him when they became friends telling one another their hopes for the future. She wanted a large family with three kids at least. At the time, he had been under the impression they were only friends despite his growing feelings for her. She was someone who deserved the world and then more. 

He had little to offer her. His family was filthy. Full of criminals, murderers, thieves, and occult members, sacrificing their newborns for rituals. Their goddess was a snake woman. From paintings she was half snake with a human torso and face. Her golden eyes haunted his childhood dreams. Two golden eyes shimmering in the darkness, her tail dragging across the wood floor. 

He would have been a sacrifice if he didn’t have one golden eye just as their goddess was depicted. They revered him and decided to wait to sacrifice him to their deity. When he was seven years old the cult was discovered and his family was taken into custody. He on the other side was put into foster care. 

Mitsuri rolled over and bent her legs up. Obanai turned with her and wrapped one arm around her. His hand rested over her stomach. Her skin was smooth from all the creams and lotions she used to help prevent stretch marks. It still stunned him thinking they would be holding a baby in four months. The upcoming scan would reveal if they were having a boy or girl. He did not care what gender they were. He only wanted them to be healthy in body and mind. Their baby would have a loving mother and a father who would try his best. 

For whatever reason Mitsuri picked him. He held her a moment longer before sitting up. He went down to the kitchen with two cats trailing after him. A pair of red tabby brothers Mitsuri named Matcha and Chai. He still confused them despite living with them for three years now. Obanai grabbed their food and poured it into bowls. He set them down on the mat and cats raced over. 

He started breakfast. Pancakes were always in demand. The first time Mitsuri stayed over she started chanting pancakes when he asked her what she wanted for breakfast. He had no idea then that it would become a tradition. Every Saturday morning he would cut up fruit, mix the batter, and deliver them to her while she was still in bed. 

Once he had two plates piled high he set them on a serving tray. Syrup, fruit, butter, chocolate chips, and everything in between. Mitsuri’s appetite had always been large. He had been worried before they found out she was pregnant. Her appetite became nonexistent for a week. He thought it was the flu since he had it the week before. They took her to the doctor when she couldn’t hold anything down when she did eat. 

The doctor was the first to mention the possibility of pregnancy. He and Mitsuri looked at each other and he facepalmed. Why hadn’t they thought of it? A blood test confirmed it and she was given medication to help with her morning sickness. They had been trying for a month. He never expected it would happen so quickly. 

Obanai sighed and picked up the serving tray. He walked back into their bedroom and set the tray down on Mitsuri’s nightstand. Sitting down on the side of the bed, he gently rubbed her shoulder. 

“I know you’re awake, Mitsuri,” he said. Her sense of smell heightened with her pregnancy and there was no way she would miss the smell of vanilla and fresh pancakes. Mitsuri smiled and opened her eyes. He leaned down to kiss her forehead before grabbing the tray to place over her. She sat up with her back resting against three pillows to prop herself up. 

“It smells so good,” she said, picking up silverware and cutting into the pile of pancakes. Obanai grabbed a strawberry to eat. He glanced at the foot of the bed and saw her wiggling her feet under the blankets in her own version of a happy dance as she ate. 

“Hey, so I was thinking about baby names. What do you think about Sora?” she asked. 

“No, I knew a kid in high school named Sora and he was insufferable,” Obanai answered, shaking his head. Mitsuri pouted. 

“You’ve said that about every name I suggested, so what names have you come up with?” Mitsuri asked. 

“Hikari for a girl. Riku for a boy,” he answered immediately. Mitsuri took a second to register the information. 

“Those were my grandparents’ names,” she whispered. Her bottom lip trembled. They passed away in the past three years and Mitsuri felt their loss deeply. 

“They were the first ones to welcome me into your family. I want to honor them,” Obanai explained. Her green eyes blinked rapidly, trying to prevent herself from crying. “If you don’t like the idea-”

“No, I love it,” Mitsuri interrupted him. She tried to reach for a tissue, but if she turned then her belly would tip over the serving tray. Obanai grabbed a tissue and handed it to his wife. She dabbed her eyes. Obanai ate another strawberry and rubbed her leg in quiet comfort.

Do you think Aang is a neglectful father to Bumi and Kya II?

going from just what we are shown in legend of korra through kya and bumi’s perspectives? yes. not intentionally, of course. but it’s important to recognize the amount of hurt that aang caused his children, to the point where tenzin’s idealization of him starts to falter, and he acknowledges that his father isn’t as perfect as he thought he was (or wanted him to be). don’t get me wrong - I think the fandom tends to exaggerate parts of aang’s parenting. like comparing him to ozai? that is the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen. but i also see pro meta glossing over kya and bumi’s concerns with him, which isn’t right. there needs to be more nuanced perspectives than “he was as bad as ozai!” or “kya and bumi really were just overexaggerating their grievances with aang. he was a great dad!”

i think here is where it’s important to discuss authorial intent: bryke have said that they had not meant for their writing to come across aang being a bad father who set out to intentionally neglect his children. rather, kya and bumi’s concerns and resentment likely stem from how they perceived his role to the world. legend of korra as a series offers a meta commentary on living up to legacy, the legacy set by the heroes in avatar the last airbender, and the legacy of living up to a critically acclaimed predecessor series. kya and bumi’s concerns also stem due to legacy: the legacy left behind by aang and how the world views their existence in accordance to this legacy - as the non-airbending children to the last airbender. kya and bumi feel that they deserve the right to be part of their father’s legacy (and they do) just as much as tenzin. i don’t think their insistence to be part of avatar aang’s legacy is due to a desire for prestige and fame, as they’ve spent much of their lives shying away from their father’s legacy. i think it’s out of a genuine realization that they are grieving and missing their father and want to celebrate his successes.

in print media, we actually get a different perspective to his parenting. kya and bumi offer good words about their father (mostly). in turf wars (2015), kya shares how he was “nothing but supportive” in relation to her coming out. she offers some interesting lore about same sex relationships among the air nomads, likely quoting something that her father could have directly shared with her. in avatar legends, it is confirmed that aang did teach both kya and bumi about their air nomad heritage, and kya internalized his lessons on philosophy, meditation, and balance:

in bumi’s recent comic called the cat owl’s cradle (2022) released in patterns of time, i was surprised to find that bumi held a much more favourable perspective towards his father than before. he thinks about his father’s great smile all the time and tells his nephew that meelo’d smile reminds him of his father’s. he mentions that aang and him used to go fishing (a water tribe practice). he’s understanding of his father’s many duties to the world; why - as the avatar - he often didn’t have infinite time in the world to spend with him. most importantly, through the advice he offers meelo, it is evident that bumi has realized that an absence of airbending couldn’t possibly make his father love him more than he already did - that he is fine the way he is, with or without airbending. in this story, we discover a vast growth in bumi’s self-confidence, as he no longer feels a sense of inadequacy, in his own skills and in his father’s eyes.

to answer your question: if you were to only watch the legend of korra, i can completely see why you’d arrive at the conclusion that aang was a negligent father who deliberately focused on his youngest child over his other non-airbending children. if you factor in print and comic media, it tells the story of a father who was trying his best to balance his responsibilities to the world and his personal life, succeeding in some ways and failing in others. at the end of the day, it seems like kya and bumi’s genuine love for their father overtakes their grievances with him. what’s interesting is that it’s not like an “he’s my father so I’m obligated to love him” type of love. it’s more along the lines of, “yes we have our issues with him but we do believe he loved us wholeheartedly and we want to be included in his legacy.”

now, just because i’ve grasped (after so many attempts) on what bryke was trying to do in korra does not mean that i don’t have my fair share of issues with the way bryke went about writing that storyline. i dislike the fact that they blamed the fandom on the overexaggeration - if all sides of the fandom came out with the take home message that aang was a deadbeat father who gatekept his culture to his literal family, the onus is on your writing, not on the fandom. the balanced perspective years later in the comics is appreciated, but we definitely needed to see this in the show from the get go.

ultimately, if they have an interest in redeeming aang’s arc as a father (which i suspect they might want to do given post-korra material), they need to show us, rather than just tell us, that he wasn’t as bad as how korra makes him out to be. the perfect opportunity for this is in this upcoming adult gaang movie with the birth of baby bumi. we have no details surrounding this adult gaang movie, so i don’t know if bumi will be in it or not. but it is the perfect opportunity, if bryke are interested in going that route.

I will end off by saying that i’d rather have aang as a father than my own any day lmaooo.

Yes! I really wanted to compliment Jamil for having dedication to do his braids every single day, but then the groovy dropped lol The cat is out of the bag. I guess that makes perfect sense, who would want to spend so much time on that if you can do it with magic… good for him.

I agree that Jamil resonates with the feeling of unfairness when some other person just keeps doing whatever he wants and winning, while he has to sit back and wait, but Jamil’s situation still feels very different.

You ask was driving me insane for this entire week, Anon, because I was trying to find one reply where we already talked about Vil in relation to this song, but plottwist: it doesn’t exist lol But we did get an ask about it in relation to Alois! Which is funny because somehow we keep walking back to their similarities from time to time.

To answer your question though: yeah I get it. It’s like the perfect level of uncomfortable coping with the idea of “I am not being taken advantage of, I am just that good compared to others”. Vil probably had his breaking moment when he stopped lying to himself about this whole thing.
