Can anyone identify this for me? Another submission, from someone who says it came to them via Facebook.
Edit: thanks to everyone in the replies who identified it as Convergence: Nightwing/Oracle
But like. What the fuck are those casters?

I have two concerns here. One is that they appear to be the size of a dime, so good luck rolling over raw earth. If I was going to try to wheel across dramatically scorched earth in my 5" casters, I would probably pop a wheelie and just not use the casters at all. There are products called trike wheels or free wheels, which are large removable wheels to use instead of your front casters, for situations like this, bevause doing it this way is impossible.
My second concern is that the casters do not appear to swivel, so steering that thing is going to be a bitch. Imagine a shopping cart where the front wheels don't turn.
I'm gonna be honest, reviewing shit like this makes me kind of tired. We exist in a world where Bruce Wayne can do pretty much anything because he's smart and has money. So, given enough money, we could make a wheelchair that could solve any non-important problem (think the rules governing the Sonic Screwdriver: it can do anything except be the solution for the main plot problems). And instead of focusing on giving a wheelchair power to pop an additional wheel out of nowhere to go over rough terrain, authors keep trying to write ways to cure the disability. Disabled readers don't want to escape into a world where their disability is magically cured, because there's usually no hope of that happening to us, and therefore very little ability to imagine ourselves as the character. But I could imagine having a wheelchair with a magical pop-out trike wheel. A trike wheel is a thing that exists, and giving a wheelchair the power to have it when I need it would be very fun.
Anyway, no one thinks of those things because wheelchair users usually aren't writing or illustrating these works. Still nice to see a mostly-decent chair.
7/10, it wouldn't work as illustrated, but at least someone tried. Don't give me a magic cure, give me a magic wheelchair.

the 90s are so fascinating for both Dick and Babs from a romantic standpoint because they're both working through MASSIVE crashouts for extremely different reasons: Babs is recovering from The Killing Joke and breaking off her engagement with Jason Bard, while Dick is reeling from his marriage to Kory failing, Joey dying, the Titans dissolving, not being Bruce's first choice to fill in as Batman for him after Knightfall, etc etc. Them getting together—and their romance in general—is a slow burn, slow-building relationship explicitly presented as "okay, they're both independent, mature, and confident characters now, this is the only way this was ever going to work and now they're ready for it."
Birds of Prey (1999) #8 was the first time in the post-Crisis universe the potential for their romance was explicitly acknowledged, but there are these….hints, here and there, in mid-90s comics (post-Dick returning to Gotham after the dissolution of the Titans) that indicate DickBabs was something that was definitely being thought about in the Bat Offices. Because Dick is CLEARLY not over Kory during this era and he dates 2-3 other women before he and Babs get together, but the hints are definitely there! It's actually really fun to read and realize that the entirety of the mid to late 90s is mostly just them reconnecting, talking to and supporting each other, and building up towards the more explicit romance in Nightwing/Birds of Prey at the speed of molasses.
Like, the "it was you. it was always you" trope DOES NOT WORK for them! It invalidates their other relationships and misses the whole point of what made them work in the first place! The whole point is that they're not the same people they were before their lives disintegrated, and through the rebuilding process they reconnected with each other as people who have grown, changed, and learned from their previous life experiences and found each other that way. They only work because of the adults they grew into being.
And then they finally get together, and it's great for a couple of years!
….then of course the mid-2000s hit the towers, and they break up, and we have several years of Dick and Babs explicitly thinking of each other as "the one who got away" and tiptoeing around the subject of whether or not they should give it another shot at some point.
idk it's just routinely astonishing to me how many people don't really recognize that Dick has to have already gone through the entire NTT era and his relationship with Kory and that Babs has to be Oracle and a grown woman who had a life before Dick for that romance to work. DickBabs only works as Nightwing/Oracle. Trying to retcon it into being Batgirl/Robin (beyond a 'childhood crush that is never acted on' aspect) or Batgirl/Nightwing is setting it up for failure every time.
also yet another reason why current DickBabs is shit, because DC is ignoring that a large part of the appeal of the relationship was the slowburn "part of rebuilding a new life after the old one has disintegrated" aspect, but that's a conversation for another post I guess
#rip this is not nearly as well put-together as some of my other metas but the thoughts are still there!#anyway thank you Convergence: Nightwing/Oracle for giving me the DickBabs wedding I desperately wanted out of the post-Crisis universe#dc comics#dick grayson#barbara gordon#dickbabs#dick grayson meta#barbara gordon meta#queue

I need people to understand that, when Jason was with the League of Assassins, he was catatonic. Once Talia put him in the pit, she sent him away with trainers because he wasn't safe with the League anymore.
So, if you believe in a "Talia was motherly with him", him and Damian still only interracted when Jason was catatonic, aka a period of his life he has no memories of. Damian and him didn't create a deep bond with each others.
This is important because I keep seeing posts being like "Damian and Jason are so close because of their time together at the League" or "Jason was pranking Ra when he was with the League". Especially because I just saw a post saying that Jason and Damian are closer than the other batkids because of this because the others canonically don't have live together, WHEN JASON CANNOT REMEMBER HIS TIME AT THE LEAGUE EVEN IF HE MET DAMIAN THERE.
And also, it erases that time Damian got jealous of Jason when he sees Bruce interacts with him, and goes to fight Jason about being Batman's partner. And at the end of the story, Bruce looks at them and say they are both his sons, but not brothers yet. (Convergence Batman and Robin)
#jason todd#red hood#damian wayne#robin#batfam#dc comics#my ramblings#I love Convergence Batman and Robin like Red Hood has been a vilain for all of Dick's time as Batman#and Bruce comes back and upon seeing Jason he is chill with him and Damian hates that#and Damian implying that Bruce's favorite partner is Jason??? Hi Hi! Um, I'm wondering if Tim and Cass are actually close in canon? I know they're both close to Steph (and Kon I guess), but I don't even really remember the two of them interacting very much, especially not one on one. Is there a comic where they're close or do people just headcanon them being closer because of Steph?
Hi!!! Tim & Cass are maybe not as close in canon as some fanon makes out, but it's definitely not a fanon-only thing!! Tim is inarguably the brother Cass is closest to (with Duke a runner-up). I made a post here about what Tim means to Cass which includes quite a lot of their one-on-one interactions, but for convenience here are some Tim-Cass essentials!!
Batgirl (2000) #18: Besides some interactions in NML, this is the start of their relationship and it's really nice! We get the iconic 'I grew' and the end sees them deciding to become friends :). This is before Cass + Steph have their first meaningful interaction so it's interesting for that reason too.
Batgirl (2000) #31-2: This is not actually important to Tim-Cass because, as you point out, they're not one-on-one here, but it is a fun crossover and you get Connor and Steph!! There's one moment where Steph calls Cass weird and Tim goes "Spoiler!" that I find really adorable so worth checking out.
Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood: The Tim-Cass comic of all time. These four issues are probably what most people imagine when they think of Tim and Cass, and for good reason! It's a great encapsulation of how much they respect each other and how fundamentally different they are. Also shows how Steph is an important part of their relationship to each other, even when she's not around.
Batman Allies: Secrets & Origins #1: An epilogue to Fresh Blood that has some really important insights into Tim & Cass' diverging views on Bruce. Once again we see that they care about each other, but the spectre of Stephanie (and Bruce honestly) continues to haunt their relationship. Actually chef's kiss really interesting this one is HIGHLY recommended!
Red Robin #17, 25: Besides Fresh Blood, #17 the most important issue in the Tim-Cass experience. At a time when Cass was shunted off to Hong Kong and Tim was isolating himself, it's lovely they kept a connection to each other. Tim giving Cass the Black Bat outfit + Cass accepting is highly meaningful, and this is definitely the highlight of the Black Bat era. Except for...
Gates of Gotham #1-5: This comic!!! AGH!!! Though it focuses more on Cass-Damian, this comic has lovely lovely Tim-Cass moments as well, and you can really see that Tim is the person Cass feels closest to in this moment.
I think that's all for pre-52 besides Batgirl (2008) where Tim defends Cass from Dick (don't really recommend it as a story in itself, but it's got some moments)! In Rebirth we also have Tynion's Detective Comics (2016), though Tim-Cass is really not a focus. Any one of these comics shows the strength of the Tim-Cass relationship - they aren't as close as Cass' relationships to Babs, Steph, Bruce/Tim's relationship to Dick, but they are definitely important to each other!
#cassandra cain#tim drake#ask#to be completely fair they are both 1000% closer to steph than they are to each other#i think only in convergence batgirl do the three of them really properly team up#i still think that should've leaned into the love triangle aspect... the DRAMA we could've gotten#the grief they felt over stephanie was both a moment of bonding and a source of conflict for them#THAT'S SO INTERESTING!!! genuinely there is so much to be done with their dynamic in fresh blood/secrets & origins#thinking about gates of gotham when cass didn't even seek out steph... there are probably dc reasons for that but i think it's interesting#because with steph being batgirl + cass being forced to give up batgirl... the angst... cass/tim both being on the outs with steph in a way#anyway go read gates of gotham

i hate convergence matrix

first of all. the way they portray lex and mae’s relationship cheapens the effect of the original story. lex is a manipulative emotional abuser who uses his charisma and lovebombing to lie to and use mae to his own advantage. his direct vocal cruelty and dehumanisation in this comic is so wildly out of character it enrages me. he would never say that to her face. he would say it behind her back.

mae’s cadence and voice are all wrong. she speaks extremely causally in this comic, whereas usually she speaks very politely and relatively concisely. she would not say ‘ya think’ or ‘omigod … whatever’. this comic is explicitly set in pre zero hour metropolis in 1994. she should not be speaking like this.

this entire scene enrages me but not nearly as clearly as the next thing so i’m just going to ask you to read it and think about it for a second and then move to my next point

the comic can’t even get her name correct. her lore elements are clear in constant mentions by lex (which he never does in her actual continuity) and the comic itself is specifically named convergence Matrix but apparently she’s kara now. what the actual fuck.

this is even more insane. she was created on an apocalyptic earth. she was literally made to drop everything to help a world that’s already dead. this is insanely out of character for even her first ever storyline. how bad at writing someone do you have to be to mischaracterise something established for them in their first ever story????
convergence matrix is a wildly bad comic that portrays mae and her relationship with lex extremely poorly, negatively, and out of character that i’m forced to assume that either keith giffen is a horrific writer with a grudge against mae or dc editorial fucked things up royally.
