Hitting a hornet's nest like a wiffle ball off a children's tee-ball tee but:
I am glad it's dead. It should have happened sooner. But there was a time just short of 20 years ago that 4chan was the wretched primordial soup from which a significant portion of the internet's humor and recurrent memes spawned and it's weird that people are acting like it wasn't.
It's been a spawning ground for nazi pigfuckers far longer than it wasn't (portions of it always were, but there used to be a lot more division between those parts), and I don't say this out of any love for the site but rather because I think there's an important discussion to be had about radicalization on the internet and why certain spaces go one way or another.
Tumblr is constantly parroting memes that started on 4chan and they don't even know it. And that's fine? They entered the broader internet lexicon before many of Tumblr's current users had stopped shitting in their own pants on a regular basis, they're certainly not the property of the Nazi Website anymore, if they ever were, but that is where they came from.
I just don't want people thinking they're immune, or that this element doesn't exist on every website and social space on the internet, or that someone being angry but funny makes them less serious and dangerous than someone who's angry but isn't funny.
4chan was particularly egregious - mandatory sitewide anonymity plus a culture that rewarded provocative (edgy, let's call it what it is) behavior and offensive humor allowed the truly rancid elements to flourish in an unusually strong way.
The thing is, back in its heyday, a lot of people dismissed most 4chan users as edgy teens or angry but ultimately harmless nerds -- and I think at one point that was probably true, but also helps explain how it got SO bad.
4chan would not have been successful as a radicalization chamber had it been The Nazi Site from the beginning, you know? And you need to remember that.

Need help prepping your zine portfolio or could use some pointers? Here’s a brief guide for choosing and organizing your works to make a successful portfolio!
Let’s start with artists.
What format should you use? Simple is usually best! Google Drive folders are often preferred because they easily display your work with no extra steps. Carrds, websites, or curated social media work too, so long as there is not extra material or posts hiding your work. Try to have as few clicks before seeing your work as possible, so no need to separate work into folders and certainly don’t require a mod to search your entire page for it—they may not have the time.
Make sure that your work is publicly viewable! Double and triple check that your Drive folder is shared publicly or your websites are not behind a password.
When choosing which pieces to include, always choose your best and most polished work. All works should be complete, in full color, and be fully shaded or rendered. Try to have at least some of your works be approximately something that would be found in a zine, which usually means about A5 sizing. Backgrounds are an essential skill for zines; make sure you show you can draw them well. Of course, sometimes some of these elements are excluded in a piece as a stylistic choice, but all are important skills to show you have.
If possible, try to include the topic of the zine in your portfolio. It does not need to be every single piece. If you only have WIPs or messy work of the topic, then it may not be worth it to include it and that’s alright (though make sure the zine does not require art of the subject when making that decision. Ours does not).
Most zines ask for featured works separate from the portfolio. These are the first things mods look at when evaluating your application. Choose your strongest three (or however many are asked for) pieces as your featured works. Typically, try to include art within the fandom as a featured work if you can. Try to have those vital skills on display in these as well (backgrounds, rendering, etc) so it’s immediately clear you’ve got what it takes.
No need for every piece to hit every point. Try your best for the portfolio together to hit most of them and meanwhile you can work on creating some art specifically to show off anything you’re missing!
There are some things you want to avoid including at risk of weakening your portfolio. A portfolio is only as strong as its weakest piece, so having less pieces is better than having weaker pieces. Only include polished work you’re most proud of. WIPs, sketches, or isolated character work may give the impression that you won’t provide a complete zine piece. Including multiple styles or mediums (especially ones that you wouldn’t be comfortable using for the zine) may confuse a mod as they might not know which you’ll use. If you include multiple styles, make sure that you are skilled and polished enough in all of them to use them for the zine. It’s totally fine to have a smaller portfolio, especially if you’re just starting out—don’t clog it with art that’s not your finest.
Merch portfolios are very similar to page art portfolios, but focus on character-centric work often without backgrounds. Do research on what makes a good merch design, because not all compositions translate well to physical products.
Photographs of merch you’ve made are excellent, but if you don’t have them then you can make mock-ups to help mods understand what you’re envisioning for the final product. Merch portfolios can be a combination of photos, mock-ups, and designs. Print samples may look very similar to a typical page art piece.
If applying as both a page and merch artist, you will likely want to have separate portfolios, as the roles require emphasis on different skills.
Writer portfolios are similar to artist portfolios in that they should contain only your best work. You may also use a Google Drive folder or another hosting website so long as it is highly curated and does not contain many other works to sift through. Typically, zines ask for 3-6 works under 3k words, but double check these numbers with each project you apply to.
If you’re applying to a specific role, such as poetry or article writing, try to have those kinds of samples ready. It may help to make a separate portfolio for those more specific applications.
Here are some other tips! Of course, there’s an infinite amount of ways to make a great portfolio, so if this guide isn’t working for you that’s totally fine. Experiment with different ways if you’d like!
Our applications open soon. Good luck!

I'm navigating through the Barnes & Noble website and the site is absolute garbage. The webpages have no dynamic elements to them so the page has to reload EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. you add or remove something from your cart. And each instance counts as a new page so it will clog your page history.
The wishlist feature is also garbage. If you try wishlisting multiple items in rapid succession, most of them won't get saved. So that means the API is designed to only handle one call at a time and the actual site can't do anything while it waits for a return.
I genuinely want to avoid using Amazon because of how utterly scummy it is, but this absolutely pathetic online experience made me genuinely consider ordering the books I want through Amazon instead and the only reason I won't is because I have B&N gift cards.

Choreography loosely inspired
Listen to Seduction by USHER while reading

Y/N was in her element during rehearsals. The Vegas residency had been a massive success, but this last show—this one—had to be extraordinary. She had already made waves with night one, but for the final show, she wanted something unforgettable.
Her best friends, Sasha and Layla, were equally fired up. “Alright, we’ve got the basics down,” Layla said, catching her breath after running through the choreography for the fourth time that day. “But Y/N, this part…” She gestured to the moment where the dancers would circle the chair in a slow, teasing motion. “It has to be seamless. Let’s go again.”
Y/N nodded, wiping sweat from her brow. She was dressed in a cropped black hoodie and leggings, her hair tied back as they worked on every beat of Usher’s “Seduction.” The song itself was a masterpiece, and Y/N wanted her performance to match its sultry elegance.
As they perfected the final sequence, she suddenly froze mid-step, her eyes lighting up. “Wait. What if… we didn’t use a random fan?”
Layla looked intrigued. “What do you mean?”
“What if,” Y/N said slowly, her smile growing, “we brought Oscar and Lando up instead?”
Sasha let out a sharp laugh. “Your boyfriends? On stage? Girl, they’d die of embarrassment.”
“Exactly,” Y/N said, grinning. “That’s the point! Imagine their faces—and the crowd would lose it.”
The trio erupted into laughter, and after a moment of debate, they agreed. The choreography remained unchanged, but the stakes were higher now. This would be their little secret until the moment it unfolded.
Backstage at the Vegas venue, there was a buzz in the air. Y/N’s glam team was hard at work transforming her into the goddess her fans adored. Her red bodysuit shimmered under the dressing room lights, every rhinestone painstakingly placed to catch the spotlight just right.
“You’re going to kill it tonight,” her makeup artist said, dusting a final bit of highlighter along her cheekbones.
Y/N glanced at her reflection. “I better. It’s the last show.”
Meanwhile, Oscar and Lando were lounging in the VIP section, completely oblivious to what was about to happen. “She’s gonna crush it,” Lando said confidently, sipping on a drink.
Oscar smirked. “She always does. I’m just here for the after-party.”
Y/N took the stage to thunderous applause, her energy magnetic as she performed hit after hit. The crowd sang along, danced, and screamed with every high note and sultry move. By the time the second-to-last song ended, the arena was buzzing with anticipation for what she had planned next.
The lights dimmed, and a hush fell over the crowd. A single spotlight illuminated Y/N as the opening notes of “Seduction” began to play. Her voice was low and smooth as she addressed the audience.
“Vegas,” she said, her words dripping with allure, “I’ve got one last surprise for you tonight. But I need… some volunteers.”
The audience erupted into cheers, hands flying up in the air. But Y/N’s gaze didn’t wander to the crowd. Instead, she locked eyes with Oscar and Lando, who were sitting front and center in the VIP section.
“Oscar. Lando,” she called, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. “Get up here.”
The arena exploded. Fans screamed, cameras flashed, and the two men looked completely blindsided.
Lando laughed nervously, turning to Oscar. “Mate, is she serious?”
“Apparently,” Oscar replied, his cheeks already flushing red.
Before they could protest, security was ushering them onto the stage. They exchanged wide-eyed looks as they were guided to two chairs placed in the center.
“This is for you,” Y/N said, her voice teasing as she sauntered toward them, her heels clicking against the stage.
As Y/N and her dancers began their routine, the atmosphere shifted. The choreography was a perfect blend of sensuality and elegance, each movement deliberate and hypnotic. Y/N circled the chairs, her voice wrapping around the lyrics like silk as she sang directly to them.
Oscar sat stiffly at first, clearly trying to stay composed, but his ears were bright red. Lando, on the other hand, leaned into the moment, a grin plastered across his face, though his nervous laughter betrayed him.
At one point, Y/N leaned in close to Oscar, her fingers tracing along his jaw as she sang:
“More I play around with you…”
The crowd went wild, and Oscar let out a soft laugh, shaking his head in disbelief.
Then, without missing a beat, she turned to Lando, running her hand along his shoulder and locking eyes with him.
“Make me wanna get down with you…”
Lando’s grin widened as he threw his hands up. “I’m not surviving this!” he shouted over the music, earning another deafening cheer from the audience.
The choreography continued, Sasha and Layla flawlessly backing Y/N as they teased and moved around the chairs. The tension, the chemistry—it was electric.
As the song ended, Y/N pulled both men to their feet, her arms slinging around their waists as the crowd erupted into applause.
“Vegas, make some noise for my boys!” she shouted, laughing as the fans roared their approval.
Oscar leaned into the mic, still blushing but smiling. “I did not sign up for this.”
Lando laughed, shaking his head. “You guys better not post any clips of this. Seriously.”
The crowd, of course, ignored him entirely.
Backstage, the chaos of the crew packing up contrasted sharply with the cozy corner where Y/N, Oscar, and Lando had settled. The three of them lounged on the velvet couch, still riding the high of the show. Y/N was perched between them, her shimmering red bodysuit catching the warm light. She kicked off her heels, stretching her legs out, clearly still glowing from her performance.
Oscar was the first to break the silence, shaking his head as if trying to process what had just happened. “That,” he started, his Australian accent making the word sharper, “was not what I expected when I came here tonight.”
Y/N turned to him, her lips curving into a sly smile. “Oh, come on, baby. Don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it.”
Oscar’s ears turned pink, but he fought to keep his composure. “I mean, it was… intense,” he said, his voice quieter. “You had me on stage in front of thousands of people, and then you—” He cut himself off, running a hand through his hair.
Lando, sprawled out lazily on the other side, smirked. “You mean when she ran her hand down your jaw like she was about to devour you? Yeah, mate, you looked like you were feeling it.”
“I did not!” Oscar protested, but his red face betrayed him.
“Oh, you absolutely did,” Y/N teased, leaning closer to him. Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she lightly ran her fingers along his arm. “You weren’t even trying to hide it. I saw you biting your lip, Oscar. Don’t lie to me.”
Oscar’s mouth opened, but no words came out. His blush deepened, and he let out a defeated laugh. “Okay, fine. Maybe I got… a little caught up.”
“A little?” Lando laughed, raising his eyebrows. “Mate, if she had gotten any closer, I think you would’ve melted into the chair.”
Y/N turned her attention to Lando now, her grin widening. “And you, Mr. Confident. You couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.”
“I was enjoying the show,” Lando replied smoothly, his tone light but his gaze locked on hers. “What can I say? My girl’s got moves.” He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping. “But I think you were trying to kill me with that last spin when you landed right in front of me. My heart’s still recovering.”
Y/N arched an eyebrow, her voice dripping with playfulness. “Is that so? Did I distract you, Lando?”
“Completely,” he admitted without hesitation, his grin growing. “And I’m not even sorry about it.”
Oscar, now feeling bolder, leaned back and crossed his arms, a small smirk playing on his lips. “If we’re being honest, you didn’t really play fair out there. I mean, the outfit, the song, that choreography… You were out for blood.”
“Oh, please,” Y/N said, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she laughed. “You both loved it, and you know it.”
Lando leaned closer, his voice playful but laced with something more. “You’re right. I did. But now I’m wondering…” He trailed off, his eyes dipping to hers before flicking to her lips for just a moment. “Did you enjoy putting us in the hot seat a little too much?”
Y/N tilted her head, her voice dropping to a soft, teasing tone. “Oh, I loved it. Watching you both squirm was the highlight of my night.” She shifted slightly, her hand brushing along Lando’s knee, her gaze flicking to Oscar. “You know, you’re both too used to being in control. I thought it was time someone else took charge.”
Oscar’s lips twitched into a smile, his voice quiet but laced with amusement. “Well, you definitely succeeded there.”
“And now you’re never going to forget it,” she said with a wink.
Lando chuckled, his hand sliding behind her on the couch. “Bold of you to assume we’d want to forget it.”
As the night wound down and the buzz of the show gave way to the quiet backstage, Y/N, Oscar, and Lando found themselves tucked away in her dressing room. The distant hum of crew members packing up felt like a world away. Y/N, still in her shimmering bodysuit, lounged on the plush couch with her legs draped lazily over Oscar’s lap. Lando sat close on her other side, one arm slung along the back of the couch, his fingers brushing lightly against her shoulder.
Y/N tilted her head back, her voice low and teasing as she broke the silence. “You know… for two guys who claim they weren’t expecting that, you both seemed to enjoy yourselves a little too much.”
Oscar’s ears turned pink again, but this time he didn’t look away. Instead, he let his hands rest on her thighs, his touch light but deliberate. “Well,” he murmured, his tone quieter, “you didn’t exactly make it easy to behave.”
“Oh?” Y/N said, raising an eyebrow. She leaned in slightly, the sultry edge in her voice making Oscar’s breath hitch. “And what exactly would you have done differently, Mr. Piastri?”
Oscar chuckled softly, but there was an edge of nervousness in his smile. “If it weren’t for all those people watching?” His thumb traced a slow circle against her knee, his voice dropping. “I might’ve shown you just how distracting you really were.”
Lando, who’d been watching the exchange with a growing smirk, shifted closer. “Careful, mate,” he said, his voice playful but carrying its own edge. “She’s already got your number.” His free hand found its way to Y/N’s waist, his fingers slipping just under the fabric to brush against her skin. “But he’s got a point, you know. You’re dangerous up there.”
Y/N laughed, her gaze flicking between them as she bit her lip. “Oh, you think I’m dangerous? You’re the ones who couldn’t take your eyes off me. I saw how you were looking at me out there.”
Lando leaned in, his breath warm against her ear as he murmured, “Yeah? And how was I looking at you?”
Y/N turned her head slightly, her lips barely an inch from his. “Like you wanted to skip the rest of the show and drag me backstage.”
Lando’s grin widened, his voice dropping to a low, almost growling tone. “You wouldn’t have heard any complaints from me.”
Oscar shifted beneath her, his hands sliding higher up her legs, his touch firmer now. “To be fair, we both made it through the whole thing. That has to count for something.”
Y/N tilted her head, her voice dripping with playful defiance. “You’re saying I should be proud of you for keeping it together?”
Oscar’s lips twitched into a smirk. “I’m saying you made it damn near impossible.”
She laughed softly, her fingers brushing along Lando’s jaw before turning back to Oscar. “You two are so easy to mess with. But if I’d known you’d both react like this…” She trailed off, her voice turning more teasing. “I might’ve saved that performance for just the three of us.”
Lando groaned, tilting his head back against the couch dramatically. “Don’t tempt me. I’d never survive that.”
Oscar let out a quiet laugh but tightened his grip on her legs, pulling her a fraction closer. “You might be tempting the wrong people, Y/N.”
She looked between them, her heart racing at the tension in the air. “Who says I wasn’t tempting exactly who I wanted to?”
Lando's breath hitched, and before either of them could say anything else, he closed the gap between them, his lips capturing hers in a kiss that was anything but soft. It was demanding, heated, and full of everything he hadn't been able to say on stage. His hand slid to the back of her neck, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened.
Oscar, watching them, felt the heat rise in his chest. When Lando pulled away, his breathing uneven, Oscar leaned forward, his fingers trailing up Y/N's thigh to her hip.
"You didn't think l'd just let him have all the fun, did you?"
Y/N barely had time to smirk before Oscar's lips were on hers, his kiss slower, more deliberate but no less intense. His hands gripped her hips firmly, grounding her even as her head spun. The softness of his lips contrasted with the tension in his touch, and she melted against him, her hands finding their way into his hair.
When they finally pulled apart, Y/N's chest rose and fell with quick breaths, her cheeks flushed as she looked between them. Lando's smirk had returned, but there was a new edge to it, his gaze lingering on her lips. Oscar, meanwhile, looked like he was trying to catch his breath, though the way his fingers tightened slightly on her thighs betrayed the restraint he was barely holding onto.
"Well," Y/N said, her voice husky as she leaned back against the couch. "Guess I'm not the only one who enjoyed themselves tonight."
Lando laughed softly, brushing a thumb against her jaw. "Enjoyed is an understatement."
Oscar grinned, his voice quiet but filled with a warmth that made her heart race.
"Next time, we might not wait for the stage."
Y/N arched an eyebrow, the challenge clear in her eyes. "Next time, huh? Bold of you to assume I won't have you begging for mercy again."
The tension in the room crackled, but before anything else could happen, a knock at the door broke the moment.
Sasha's voice called out from the other side. "Y/N, you coming? The bus is waiting!"
Y/N exhaled a soft laugh, shaking her head as she stood, adjusting the sparkling fabric of her bodysuit. She looked back at the boys, her lips curving into a satisfied smirk.
"Saved by the bell. For now."
As they left the dressing room, Lando's hand brushed the small of her back, and Oscar's lingering gaze followed her every step. The moment was over, but they all knew it wasn't the end. This was just the beginning of a game they were more than happy to keep playing.
The media center buzzed with energy as reporters prepared for the Las Vegas Grand Prix media day. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, dressed sharply in their McLaren team gear, were fielding questions at a press conference. The room was packed, with fans and journalists eager to hear from the two drivers about their break between races—and the buzz surrounding their recent escapade with Y/N.
A journalist raised her hand and smiled as she addressed them. “Oscar, Lando, the Vegas GP is a huge weekend. Did you both enjoy your little break before the race?”
Lando smirked, leaning back in his chair as he glanced at Oscar. “Yeah, the break was great. Relaxing… refreshing, you know.”
Oscar nodded, keeping his expression as neutral as possible. “Definitely. Just some downtime, nothing crazy.”
The fans in the room chuckled, sensing there was more to the story.
Another journalist jumped in, holding up her phone. “Well, that’s interesting because… this has been making the rounds.” She turned the phone toward the drivers, and a clip from Y/N’s Vegas concert played on the screen. The moment where she circled Oscar and Lando in their chairs, singing seductively, was crystal clear.
The reaction was immediate. The room erupted into cheers and laughter as both drivers froze.
Oscar’s ears turned bright red as he dropped his head into his hands. “Oh, no,” he groaned, his voice muffled.
Lando’s reaction wasn’t much better. He sat bolt upright, his face flushed as he let out a nervous laugh. “Alright, alright. Who leaked that?” he asked, trying to deflect.
The journalist grinned. “It’s everywhere, Lando. So, care to explain?”
Oscar finally looked up, still visibly blushing but managing to crack a small smile. “Look, it was… unexpected.”
“That’s one way to put it!” Lando interjected, clearly trying to laugh his way through the embarrassment. “Let’s just say Y/N has a flair for surprises.”
The moderator, trying to regain some control, chuckled as he asked, “Did you two enjoy yourselves, at least?”
The drivers exchanged a quick glance. Lando grinned, his cocky demeanor slipping back into place. “I mean, you saw the video. What do you think?”
Oscar tried to compose himself, though his grin betrayed him. “It was definitely… an experience. She knows how to put on a show, that’s for sure.”
The fans cheered louder, and someone from the back shouted, “You looked like you loved it, Oscar!”
This sent Lando into a fit of laughter, slapping the table. “He did! Don’t let him fool you—he was into it.”
Oscar groaned again but couldn’t stop smiling. “Alright, fine. It was fun. Embarrassing, but fun.”
The questions shifted back to racing, but the buzz in the room lingered. As the press conference wrapped up and the drivers left the stage, Lando leaned over to Oscar.
“You know this is going to follow us for the rest of the season, right?”
Oscar sighed but smiled. “Yeah. But at least she made it worth it.”
“True,” Lando replied, smirking. “And between us… I wouldn’t mind being surprised again.”
Oscar laughed, shaking his head. “You’re unbelievable.”
The media day moment went viral almost instantly, cementing Y/N’s performance—and the McLaren boys’ reactions—as one of the most talked-about stories of the Vegas GP weekend.

Enkay watches the Imp and Skizz Podcast #128 (feat..... Imp and Skizz?????)
This week the boys took questions from the community and answered them! It's been a long time coming, since the last time they did this was over two years ago!
NOTE: none of these are direct quotes unless they are in quotation marks! I paraphrased a LOT to make this post decently short! This podcast is an hour forty minutes long, you GOTTA watch the full thing! x
"thanks for having me. big fan." i love skizz
Skizzleman name origin! He wanted to make a username for a poker website and the original slant on his last name was taken; a rap stereotype at the time was to slap 'izzle' on the end of it, Skizzleman was born
Impulse name origin! Impulse played marching snare for a drum corp called Impulse! His initials are SV so he smacked that on the end.
Question #1 from Marihl1354: What advice would you give to the other 10 years in the past?
Impulse: Join me. If you have the time, make it because you WILL be successful.
Skizz: Care less about what others think, because you can fly so far if you stop trying to please everyone and follow your instincts.
Question #2 from Hunter-7115: Who's the Better Host?
Both! It wouldn't be the podcast you know and love if it wasn't both of us!
"I complete you" SHUT UPPPPP
Question #3 from nicholashalom1632: Biggest moment that put your friendship to the test?
This story from the first Q&A We were both being you and stupid and drunk and thankfully we've never been that bad since.
Question #4 from IdiotSandwich2087: How exactly would you define your worst day in content creation?
Impulse: Any time where I have my day planned and I'm excited for it, and then something gets in the way and messes up my plan. It's mainly just frustrating and it's something I specifically have issues about.
Skizz: My first Twitch Rivals event, my internet cut out several times, and it was frustrating and demoralizing, but I didn't lose my cool.
Question #5 from iceybruhyt2178: What did you think initially when Grian originally pitched Third Life?
Skizz: I knew it would be a hit. I didn't know the longevity, but I knew it was going to be a success because it had the potential to have story elements that the audience would enjoy. I'm honored that I was picked since my channel was so small at the time.
Impulse: I knew it would work, but I didn't know how well us together would make this perfect ensemble. And it's still an amazing group that gels so well together on and off screen after almost 4 years. Each person wants everyone to have a good time and make great videos.
Question #6 from opalwhisker: What do you do with all the gifts you receive? What's the weirdest/funniest gift you've been given? What's your favorite stuff?
Impulse: Pretty much everything is special, because they all have heart and meaning to the person that gave it to me, and it makes me very grateful for my fans and for what I do.
Skizz: The drawings really impress me because it's such a show of skill and talent and everything is so touching because it's personal.
Question #7 from AgnesBooth-zu7tw: What would you do for content creation if you can't do Hermitcraft?
Skizz: Streaming. I like doing variety game streaming as well as Hermitcraft, the cooking stream with my wife was a lot of fun. Also voice acting (enkay personal note: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE)
Impulse: Anything that shows off my authentic self. I also really enjoy the video production end of things because it makes a great product and it plays to my strengths, I want to persue that more.
Also the Podcast!
Questions #8 and #9 from TrueCDC
Question #8: What video are you most proud of?
Impulse: The Storm the Castle video! I worked so hard on it, I learned a ton of new things, and it was really fulfilling for me to build something that was an experience everyone enjoyed.
Skizz: The Guess the Build series! I pitched the original idea based off of Telestrations and Grian took my idea and really polished it in terms of rules and getting the server mechanics organized so it's sleek. They're so much fun to make, everyone has a great time, the videos are amazing. I love the laughs we get out of it.
WHY WAS THAT BLEEP SO LONG
Question #9: What would you do differently about the podcast if you started again tomorrow?
The name. It doesn't telegraph a lot of information if you don't know who we are, and it doesn't really say anything about what sort of stuff we make.
The thing we DON'T regret is making our podcast NOT centered around a particular topic. It keeps things interesting for us and that's the most important element to keep the podcast going for as long as we want.
Questions #10 and #11 from Ranger12_
Question #10: What have you learned from each other?
Skizz: The importance of planning when it's needed. I tend to be more loose and free but it has it downfalls. I can still plan but have the freedom I need.
Impulse: A bit of parenting advice from Skizz. "If your kid is asking you to spend time with them to make a memory, You Take It."
Question #11: How did marching band change you?
Impulse: It kind of helped expose us to the multitasking that we would see later in adulthood, between school, having to have a job, and practicing. It taught me a lot of discipline and I got to experience the rush of REALLY hard work actually paying off.
Skizz: It really had a LOT of gravity and importance because of how intense and highly respected DCI is. It's a lot of pressure and we all had to pitch in to execute routines PERFECTLY.
Question #12 from LoSDockForBoats: Skizz, when you realize there was never a time limit on living your life to its fullest?
Skizz: A combination of my MS diagnosis in my mid-20s and any time when someone close to me passes away is always a wake-up call.
Question #13 from catfan0_0: Who are your favorite non-Minecraft content creators?
Skizz: For drumming, Estepario simply because he's the best, Brad Owen makes really good poker content and his videos are interesting, insightful, and funny! Sam The Cooking Guy is an amazing chef and host, and the post production is great, and the recipes he makes are AMAZING! (special shoutout to theOdd1sOut and Mark Rober)
Impulse: Harris Heller, he's a tech guy that I get most of my gear recommendations from, and I enjoy his videos.
Questions #14 and #15 from @skizzpulsee (AHHHHHHHH)
Question #14: What's your Roman Empire? (they didn't understand what that meant)
Impulse: Expanding my content to a wider scope.
Skizz: I don't think I have one (Enkay grabs the mic: IT'S SITCOMS)
Question #15 for Skizz: What's the best prank of all time?
Skizz: It was ages ago when I was working at Costco. There was a woman named K would nick little paper/cardboard signs that no one would miss from fast food places and stuff to decorate her room. We went to a Subway for lunch break and she said she wanted a sign that had LED lights in it. I grabbed it as we left and head back to work. She took it and later on I see there's a couple cop cars in the mall plaza and he told his boss to say that the cops were there for K because of the sign. He SOLD it and K is freaking out. I come back and pretend the cops talked to me. I grab the sign again and go outside to "talk to the cops". I put the sign in her car (I stole the keys from her locker) and return and pretend I got a stern talking to from the cops and they have my photo and information.
She got SO anxious about it that my boss felt bad and let her take the day off. She sees the sign in her car and flinches (I have snuck into the parking lot and have followed her). I yell at her to not get too mad, she yells at me good-naturedly, and she takes a well deserved afternoon off. (Kids, don't steal things)
Question #16 from Kiwimarauder: Which guest inspired you?
Impulse: Claire. She motivated me to pull the trigger on lifestyle changes that I'd been wanting to make for a few years now and it's recently been a big impact on me (but also I can't choose, they're all inspirational)
Skizz: My two main ones are Mumbo and Bdubs. Mumbo was such a big inspiration in terms of creativity and not questioning if my ideas are "good enough" and Bdubs because he helped me embrace "I'm happy and healthy and my important people are too, and sometimes that's all the ambition I need"
Question #17 from mariashaw980: Do you ever join the Hermitcraft server to find yourselves enamored by the utter creativity, complexity, and strength of your peers?
Impulse: Yeah, I was a big hermitcraft fan from season 2, and I was watching Etho from before I made a youtube channel. To be in the same space with these people hit me every time I'm with them. They're all inspiring and amazing and it's humbling.
Skizz: ditto to the above, I'm constantly amazed with literally everything
Question #18 from ronaldfelix1850: What other hobbies do you guys have besides gaming?
Skizz: Poker, but it's not a BIG hobby because poker is the fun thing and not gambling. I learned it from my older brothers and I loved the psychological angle of it.
Impulse: Computers and tech stuff, also renovating (probably because of my interior decorator wife). I love working on house projects.
Question #19 from Savannah_831: What's your favorite moment you've had together playing minecraft?
There's so many, but a recent highlight is our prank on Joel early in the season. It was a collaborative moment for us and it's so much fun to get one over on Joel because he has such great reactions and it was a matter of pride
Question #20 from TzainDoesMusic: Who's the one person you want to meet, dead or alive?
Impulse: Matthew McConaughey or Matthew Perry
Skizz: Matthew Perry is also high up there, but also Jesus would be cool. I would ask QUESTIONS. "I bet I could make him laugh"
Questions #21 and #22 from Alchamyx:
Question #21: To Skizz: How in the world do you stay so positive?
Skizz: It's more that I don't show too much real negativity on stream or in videos. It's not really what I want to give as a content creator for you guys, and everyone has bad days, nothing to be ashamed of.
Question #22: To Impulse: How do you see your creative projects come to life?
Impulse: Honestly they're usually spur-of-the-moment ideas, usually inspired by stuff that I surround myself with at the time. My candy factory was inspired by my daughter getting REALLY into all the Willy Wonka stuff. The cyberpunk city and all the lore wasn't inspired by ANYTHING topical. It just came to me, and I knew myself and Bdubs would have fun with the building style.
Questions #23 and #24 from angiesteuck:
Question #23: Skizz, how do you like playing on Hermitcraft?
Skizz: I LOVE it. It's fun being a guy that helps facilitate funny moments. It makes me want to be a better builder and do more for the Hermits, like Tango does with his amazing games
Question #24: Do you ever get recognized when you are out and about?
Impulse: Very rarely. We were once recognized together in the middle of nowhere and it was a really sweet family. But my last vacation I was on a cruise and I was recognized several times! If you see either of us, absolutely say hi when it's an appropriate time!
Skizz: I had a dinner where my waiter recognized me and he was very polite about it, it was such a nice moment.
BONUS PRIMMERS!!!!!
#impulsesv#skizzleman#imp and skizz#text#hermitcraft#life series#trafficblr#hermitblr#walleye is cool and she put up with me pausing the stream every two minutes to transcribe this

The Heroine's Journey
Hello writers, I want to introduce you all to The Heroine’s Journey.
I've pulled this together from an old series of posts I've written for a project at @the-wip-project. There will be homework!
Through general media consumption most of us know about or have at least unknowingly absorbed The Hero’s Journey. I spare you the details, they’re easy to look up, but in the most general sense, lots of very successful stories are set up like this:
The Ordinary World
The Call of Adventure
Refusal of the Call
Meeting the Mentor
Starting the Quest
Tests, Allies, Enemies
Approach the Underworld
The Ordeal
Reward
The Road Back
Recognition
Glory, Reward, and Isolation
If you look at that and think “Star Wars: A New Hope” you got it exactly right. A lot of successful stories are written with these steps in mind. It usually follows a hero, who has to overcome internal and external conflicts to reach their goal.
The lesser known Heroine’s Journey is the equivalent to this but with a focus on connections and relationships. Where the Hero’s Journey is about a lone hero, the Heroine’s Journey is about finding community.
The concept of the Heroine’s Journey is not new but there wasn’t a lot of easy to read literature written about it. But recently, Gail Carriger has written a delightful and educational non-fiction book for writers and readers, called, not surprisingly, The Heroine’s Journey.
The terms Hero and Heroine are gender neutral, for instance the movie Wonder Woman is a Hero’s Journey while a buddy comedy like Man In Black is a Heroine’s Journey (generalizing here).
I like to think about it in terms of found family and friends. These stories are Heroine's journeys, they tell of community building and how we are stronger together. If you think about your WIP and how it can be applied to it, it might just blow your mind. Let me just says those tropes, “found family”, “the gang gets together”, “me and my friends gonna kick your ass” that we all love? Those are all elements of The Heroine’s Journey 😘. Doesn't that sound great?
Just to compare it to the list I made at the beginning of the post, The Heroine's Journey has the following points:
A broken familial network
Heroine's pleas are ignored
Abdication of power
Family offers aid
Subversion and disguise
Find surrogate family
Visit the Underworld, search aided by companions
Information gathering, delegation, networking
Negotiation for reunification
Revenge and Glory are irrelevant
Network established or rebuilt
Let me just put in a graphic here that Gail Carriger provided on her website.
Homework: The Heroine’s Journey begins with the protagonist having broken with their familial network, their pleas being ignored, turning away / being pushed out from their position, and finding help from family/friends. Think how this beginning could apply to your WIP.
I'm pretty sure, a few of you had the kind of “omg why did I not see that?” epiphany with The Heroine’s Journey 😀. Same thing happened to me and I realized why one story just wasn’t working. It couldn’t work because I was trying to cram a Heroine story into a Hero’s Journey. If you want to hear the author Sasha Black have that kind of epiphany live on air (so to speak), listen to this [podcast], where she interviews Gail Carriger about The Heroine’s Journey. Just be warned, that epiphany involves a lot of swearing 😜.
We talked about the beginning of the Heroine’s Journey. In this first part, the Heroine is involuntarily kicked out of their familial network. This is one of the main differences to the Hero’s Journey, where the Hero refuses and turns away voluntarily. The first part of the Heroine’s Journey is about involuntary isolation.
The Hero refuses the quest, for whatever reason, the Heroine is getting kicked into the quest.
The next part is the Search.
The Heroine’s Journey follows a pattern of connections, reunification, finding family. Mentally, physically, or emotionally. A successful journey ends with new connections, new community.
The Heroine searches for new connections, new companions, to solve the problem the story gives them. Often they employ disguise/subversion and alter their identity in this part. They form a new network, a found family. With the network, they go on a quest into “the Underworld” to gather information and build more connections.
Homework: Applying the Heroine’s Journey to your WIP, what connection does your protagonist make? What kind of community do they form? And if you have a problem with your WIP, maybe try giving your protagonist more friends?
As humans, we easily think in binary concepts, things are either this way or that way. But in reality, things overlap, mix and match, and the same can be said for the Heroine’s Journey and the Hero’s Journey.
Stories can have a Hero and a Heroine working together. Think about your basic buddy comedy, the one stoic character who wants to work alone and the fun character, who has many friends and connections. That’s a Hero with a Heroine in the same story and one possible arc could be that the Hero changes into a Heroine.
In romance, you often have the bad boy, a rogue character, who wants to stay on a Hero’s Journey, but the love of the one good person in their life changes them and pulls them into their Heroine’s Journey.
Stories with multiple characters may have each character on a different journey, with different focal points on what is important for their journey.
I also think that fanfiction often has a way of turning a Hero’s Journey into a Heroine’s Journey. When the source material says “and they won the fight but now they’re all alone”, fanfic takes a stick and whacks that on the head with “but what if they had friends /whack/”, “and they all lived together in a house /whack/”, “and they raised tomatoes, kids, and chickens together /whack whack whack/”.
Homework: Think of your favorite characters (from your WIP or from an interesting source material) and identify who leans more towards Hero and who leans more towards Heroine. Sketch out how they influence each other and what direction their stories could go.
This has been a short overview of the Heroine’s Journey, if you’re interested in this structure, I very much recommend the book [https://gailcarriger.com/books/the-heroines-journey-for-authors-book/]. It’s really a fun read, Gail Carriger did not switch to some weird academic tone for this book. She has lots of popular examples in the book, to illustrate how these concepts apply to stories we know and love.

RFQ (Request for Quote) for Fanfic Illustration Project
Update: I have found an artist! Thanks to all who applied.
Hello! I am a fanfic author looking to commission 6 illustrations to appear in an upcoming fanfiction. My tentative/negotiable budget for this is $1650 USD or $275/illustration. I wish them to be done by 24th September. I am looking for illustrations that are fully shaded, and in color, suitable for appearing inline both online (via AO3) and in print in B&W. I am an amateur fannish creator, and this is the first time I've ever done something like this, and have no contacts to which to rely upon. As a result, I'm also offering a $50 finders fee for any good-faith tip, recommendation, or referral that ultimately leads to a successful agreement.
About the project:
Nature of Work/Quality Requested: Each illustration will involve two canon Stargate SG-1 characters that require, shading, detailing, and coloring. Each illustration also requires a background that effectively communicates the scene geography (ie, where the characters are in relation to eachother and their immediate surroundings). However, generally, the backgrounds do not require complicated shading and detailing as long as they get across the general idea - with the exception of a landscape background for one of the six illustrations. The backgrounds are: medical lab, briefing room, daylight forest, hillside overlooking river, underground cave.
Fandom: This project deals with the Stargate SG-1 fandom, and the characters of Janet Fraiser, Jonas Quinn, Samantha Carter, and the Goa'uld Nirrti. Someone familiar with this fandom would be preferred, but if you are not, substantial high quality references will be provided.
Controversial/Squicky Elements: These requested illustrations do not involve any kind of erotica or ongoing/imminent violence/gore and are SFW. However, of note, a few of the desired illustrations require an accurate reproduction of automatic firearms typical of Stargate SG-1 (specifically, the M16A2 and the MP5, references will be provided), and one of the desired illustrations involves an injured and bloodied person.
Revisions/Alterations requested? Due to the expedited nature of the project (just under two months to finish), I don't expect there to be time for any significant alterations. All I would request is a sketch copy of each illustration before major detail/shading/color work is undertaken, so I can verify the scene geography and major components are correct. If there is time, I may pay extra for alterations should I want them.
How you will be credited:
In-story, online: Your name and a hyperlink to your website/social/portfolio (as desired) will be attributed in the author's notes of the chapters in which your illustrations appear. Your name will also appear at at beginning/foreward, credited as "Illustrator"
In-story, in print: Your name and printed URLs/@s will appear in the beginning or the end of the story, at your choice, credited as "Illustrator"
In other situations, online, e.g. social media posts: A named link to your webside/social/portfoilio (As desired)
Nature of product+license I am intending to purchase:
In general, high quality sources I can freely distribute, and which other can freely redistribute (so long as you remain attributed, and the following terms are attached). Specifically, I am looking for:
Source quality without visible watermark
Time-limited right of first publish: You will withhold publishing copies of the commissioned works on your own socials/website until the final fanfic is posted, or the date February 1st, 2025, whichever is earlier.
A non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual and irrevocable license with the following terms:
In general, unlimited noncommercial reproduction with attribution.
Limited derivative works, including, color re-grading, cropping, addition of titles or text bubbles, extraction of individual elements without modification (e.g. characters), for the purposes of creating covers, memes, compositions, promotional material, and general shitposting.
Sublicensible without penalty under identical terms, for the purposes of allowing others to distribute the story with the illustrations intact, so long as attribution is preserved, a copy of these terms provided, and no cash or other cash-equivalents exchanged.
How you will be paid:
I am willing to pay via Pay Pal (G&S), Bank wire, CC payment to online shop, Bitcoin/Monero or any crypto listed on Bitstamp supported by Ledger. I am willing to sign up for any online service that does not have onerous verification requirements, as long as such service does not require the use of a proprietary app that can only be installed on a smartphone.
Payments will be in installments as progress is made, or via escrow at the artist's request.
Price negotiable?
Yes. The listed budget is what I believe this project is worth based upon my very limited knowledge and experience, and the money I have available to pay. As the title suggests, please send in your own quote as you feel is fair compensation for your labor. However, cards on the table, price will be a significant factor when discriminating between bids and I may reduce the scope of the project rather than incurring cost overruns.
Is the deadline soft or hard?
Hard. I need the illustrations by the given date for printing in order to give a copy to someone I know (it's a surprise).
How can I contact you?
Please direct all inquiries to [email protected]. If you wish to make a bid, please include the following information.
Your tentative bid, in converted from your currency to United States Dollars
Your estimated lead time
A portfolio of recent work, with at least a few examples of the quality you are willing to work at for the given price.
Any additional stipulations or limitations the listed terms that you wish to request
Whether or not you are familiar with Stargate SG-1
Who you were referred by, if anyone
Your timezone
Whether you would prefer discord or signal for real-time communication

Hey Look At This Comic: Spaces
(comic images taken from the preview on Megan Delyani's website )
The back of Megan Delyani's SPACES says:
Is it art? Is it a comic? Is it a load of BS? It's probably all three.
which feels like an unfortunate hedge to me, on a project that doesn't need to apologize for itself. 16 pages of empty frames--a lot of work to go to when you could, if you were doing a load of BS, just take one page and copy it 16 times! why waste time drawing each one?
It's not a defense I'm here for. This kind of conceptual, abstract comic work was in the cards from the moment Jean Arp dropped pieces of paper on a canvas and painted where they fell for his "rectangles arranged by chance", to pick one example. Go back to 1916 and bug him about it--I'm not here to debate whether Delyani's efforts are "art" or just a put-on.
What do we do with a comic of all blank frames though? Actually, I find it hard to write about this work, cause it's so easy to narrativize my own experience, preemptively tell my own impressions to myself in the form of an essay while I'm writing it. It's easy, with a work that's in part conceptual and asks "what is a comic" style questions, to get bogged down intellectually and miss the frames for the signifiers. I tried to beat that back by writing this review stoned; I got as far as: "(I'm so high right now as I compose this post. I'm pumpkin pied)" and didn't write any more. So much for writing high and editing sober.
Ok. what's the experience?
it feels bifurcated to me. Sometimes I read the comic one way, sometimes another. Sometimes I hardly read it at all: the page becomes a whole composition, like a color field painting, just an arrangement of rectangles.
Others, I picture, vaguely, what panel contents could fill up these frames. What action do they suggest? in that mode there's something didactic about SPACES, like it's teaching me to really look at pages I would have ignored before. I always turned towards regularized frame structure, and structure breaking, and saw a quick wiggle back and forth between a long and a short panel as just structurelessness, frames dictated by their contents. stripped of rhetorical purpose, the need to fit to a panel subject, they feel free to stand on their own, with their own irregular rhythm. there's a lot of halves and thirds in this, the old drawing board standard, going all the way back to companies like EC and probably further, boards produced that had divisions for panels already printed on them. they aren't dictated here by the sometimes draconian EC scripts; what could fill them now?
the frames can become a drama themselves, little clusters of interrelations that might shockingly transform or counterpoise. A page with two thin rectangles framing a central square, then the next strip is just two squares, the last strip one big panel. it feels like a pushing towards something, the frames getting more weighty and significant as they go down the page. Then the next page: much more chaotic, no regularity in the vertical divisions of the strips, and one panel even sliced in two horizontally. A response to the rhythmic buildup of the previous page, that increasing weight forcing a collapse of order? it's suggestive, at least.
then there's the thin horizontal strips. narration? it suggests a line of text, because of how english language script is written typically in horizontal scripts. but the language of comics might suggest something else. even narration text isn't typically broken out into its own frames separated by gutters. what illustration might go into something like this? decorative elements? or should we read the frames as just participants in the drama themselves? there's a few pages towards the end where a bunch of these appear, alongside more dramatic and irregular divisions again of each strip. this set of three or so pages feels chaotic, like ideas intruding upon each other in rapid succession. then, four squares and one solid final punctuating panel, a set of definitive statements. it's breathtaking. no, really, I'm not pulling your leg here! I see it and I gasp.
and then the last page is unique among all of them, what I came to think of as a "window" arrangement of frames (short, long, short) at the top, giving way to one massive frame... interrupted by a small inset square at the very end, like a final punctuation. it's a satisfying exhale of an ending for the whole arc of a comic all about the rhythm and play of spaces.
what a cool little art object! I'm so glad I was able to pick up a physical copy at a recent zine fair (at a repurposed grocery store space now taken over by a punk flea market in cap hill, which is awesome). you can also get physical copies in various ways--if you're in Seattle maybe pick one up through local art coop Push/Pull? I'd love to see more work exploring the spaces comics are made of.

Jus doin' sum random scrollin'. 📱 - r3al' 🐉 #mambamentality🐍
Call it mindless, yet we all (in some sorta way) do it. It'd been a minute since anything had been posted for Azine. Supposing it appeared as though only reviews about Ye, Drake, Billie, or Taylor were worthwhile, it still felt integral to take my time. I'd go as far as to say that my creative nuances were both amusingly and unapologetically unafraid of patience. Cut to what one could curate as chancing upon the profile for Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer Kallitechnis's Ardene interview on YouTube. While snuggly lotus sedentary in a lounge chair Kassandra (a.k.a Kallitechnis) sorted words on some pretty deep stuff. (See, I'm the type to keen in what artists fr say alongside of winnowing amid whatever it is they craft.) All her talk about authenticity, longevity, and even therapy, backdrops her latest Single releases, to delicately while devoutly dream weave some of the most sensational late night Trap Alt. Soul/R&B that I'd ever heard. After hours of zoning out on Spotify & Apple Music, I'd seemingly stumbled upon a mound of sound designs showcasing that Kallitechnis latest releases, "KALEDISCOPE LOVE" & "SOFT LIFE, are sonic gems worthy of ethereal shine.
"KALEDIOSCOPE LOVE" is the most recent release by Kallietechnis. Lyrically it's the lift off elements of romance dazzled in the depth of the "bedsheet ballets'" that hopefully accompany it. If you tap script Kallie's verses here, it'll literally take your breathe away. This 2024 Soul Over Ego Single release paints a sensual sonata, saturated in the palates of lovemaking by the likes of a Jhene Aiko, Victoria Monet, & fav Kehlani. My cherished over the two songs is the latter 2023 released, "SOFT LIFE", where the copulation carved crooning by Kallitechnics feels more assured in its contour. Lyrics like, "Cocoa butter kisses on the back of your neck...No ones around, go and say it with your chest." sets up a between the sheet session, where direction details desire and more importantly: pleasures for both parties. The hedonism hails heavy here, and when ya place that alongside of Kassnadra's visceral vocal layerings, you're insatiably sedated into this ‘sensational style of life’ she's sojourning.
Both releases mode just a mere of the music you can muse through courtesy of Kallitechnis. For me it's the completeness interwoven in the listening experience of these two tracks. Detailing what it takes to call yourself professional in this or any realm is something I valued early on. The attention to detail, care, production, and most importantly the passion, tentpole sound designing success for any act whether indie or not. On that note, Kassandra does something else, almost effortlessly. She ate, and fanged deep into the fact that there are stars who are not signed. Stars: real artists who are crafting carefree of what seemingly fates, what often lacerates acts who sign with labels. Definitively, I'm the late night type. I'm good either playing the pull while out, or layinlow at the cribbo, playlsitin' on the MacBook with Apple TV or YouTube dressing the backdrop. Either in or out, this pair of indie soul sounds soothe both the mind, as well as those other places the sensations may align.😉

Hey! Could I request a fic with Bam where the reader is a female skater?
Maggot’s Kiss
Being apart of Tony Hawk’s skate team sounded like a dream to Y/N- that is, until she met Bam, and an innocent thing turns into something darker.
Bam Margera X Fem!Reader
(Fluff, Angst)
2.6k Words
Warnings: Enemies to lovers, jealousy, crude language, very suggestive content, bullying, hate makeouts, nudity, fake dating, flirting, accidental vouyerisim, injury, blood
An: Thank you so much for your request and happy new year!! I decided to combine my love of darker fics and slow burn to create this for your reading pleasure ;) I just love writing banter like what Bam and Y/N have in this fic hehe XD This fic was also inspired by this amazing fic (one of my favorite Jackass fics on this website) by @asskickedbygirl, so please go check her out!! According to one of my beta readers this is one of the steamiest things I have ever written, and that was just based off of the first three paragraphs, so do with that what you will! Anyways, thank you for sending in requests and please keep sending more!! I love to read them and I enjoy writing them even more :)
You hated him. His edgy, crazy, rich boy schtick made you almost embarrassed to be touring with him and the rest of Tony’s team, knowing that no matter what, the spotlight was always on him. It was never Team Adio or Team Element- it was Bam and Company. Every time you saw pre-teens fighting tooth and nail over who got his autograph first or when chicks threw themselves at his feet for a chance to be graced by the presence of his less than average dick (you see a lot being on the same tour bus for two months), you gagged a little. You were seemingly the only person in America that didn’t fall for Bam Margera’s bullshit. Maybe hate was an understatement.
It was the evening before some exhibition you were supposed to do in the parking lot of a mall that you were pondering all of this, seething quietly in the tiny tour bus bunk bed you were trying to get some shut eye in. Trying being the key word, seeing as you weren't very successful at it. Sighing, you wriggled out of your middle row bunk, carefully stepping down and stretching, the claustrophobic sleeping conditions doing nothing for your already not great posture. There was a row of leather seats in the back of the bus you and the guys would usually sit around and play cards in or watch TV when you were on the road that you made your way back to, feeling around in the pitch darkness as a strange chill struck you. The only thing you could see was the glowing, orange tip of a cigarette as you sat down, knowing exactly who it was.
“Close the damn window. S’freezing.” Mumbling, you crossed your legs, tucking your feet into the backs of your knees to warm yourself up. He chuckled, taking another drawl on his cigarette, the embers glowing intensely for a moment before he exhaled, “Might wanna think ‘bout wearin’ a bra ‘round here.” You could practically feel Bam’s eyes on you through the darkness. “I had no idea y’were so fascinated by my tits, Margera.” His last name came out of your mouth like it pained you to say it, acrid on your tongue. Scoffing, you cooed with faux sweetness, sliding closer to him and whispering in his ear, “I-I mean, if you really wanted, y’could give ‘em a feel…” Two can play at that game. Bam found your jab funny, laughing bitterly as he playfully shoved you away, “Oh, no way in hell am I touchin’ you.”
So after a few minutes of small talk, you went back to bed, and so did he, but that exchange didn’t leave your mind. There wasn't an atom in your body that wanted to be felt up by Bam of all people, but you were still pissed that he wrote you off that fast. You saw the girls he took to the bathroom of the tour bus every night and they had nothing on you. Then there was the matter of why he was staring at your tits in the first place. Was he checking you out? Something hot bubbled in your stomach that you were sure was hate at the thought of that. God, it was too late to be thinking like this, you thought, pushing it from your mind and burrowing deeper into your sheets as you tried to get some sleep.
You felt like shit the next day, but the show must go on, three hours of sleep or not. Thankfully, the bus stopped at a Love’s truck stop on the way there- you would be surviving on a gas station coffee and a prayer. Everyone filtered out of the bus, buying snacks and toiletries or whatever they needed. That left you, lingering by the trucker showers with Mike Valley. You split a bag of Hostess Donettes while he waited for his turn, discussing some fight he got into at the bar last night. Smiling, you licked the powdered sugar off of your fingers and joked about it being the breakfast of champions. He laughed, but just as you looked back up from the now empty bag, your eye caught something.
Perfect fucking timing. The door to the men’s swung open at just the right moment for you to see Bam in all his naked glory, thankfully only from behind. It wasn’t rare for you to see him shirtless, especially when you were skating together in the heat of touring season, but you only just now realized how muscular his back was. His tan skin had contours like a bronze sculpture, shitty black fleur de lis tattoos winding down his sides as he toweled away the last glistening remnants of his shower. Before your eyes reached his ass you tore your gaze away, gagging in mock disgust, crumpling up the empty bag and throwing it in the trash.
There was this weird look in Bam’s eye as he handed off the shower key to Tim, taking his place next to you on the beige wall as he pulled his shirt over his head, “You got a little something there.” He gestured to the side of your face and you licked off the remaining powered sugar, cracking a smile as you mumbled, “Oh, fuck off.” Bam held his hands up in mock surrender as you could hear the shower turn on in the other room, the only noise in the otherwise silent hallway, “Hey, no need t’get all defensive! I mean,“ You could feel his long, half-wet hair dangle on your forehead as he leaned in closer, his voice teasing as he reached down to do up his belt, “especially with how you were pervin’ on me in the showers. I’d say you owe me an apology.”
You turned to him, glaring at his stupid grinning face under the fluorescent lights, “First of all, it was an accident. Second of all, I can barely stand the sight of your naked ass without hurling!” He just snickered at your joke that wasn’t even all that untrue as you rolled your eyes to keep them from lingering on the heartagram splayed out on his lower stomach, “And pull your damn pants up. Hope you bust your ass out there today.” Bam shrugged, walking down the skinny hallway, “Sure. Don’t break a nail out there, sweetheart.” That just left you, watching him leave.
The next time you saw pretty boy was under the signing tent, a respite from the blazing sun and asphalt. Your seat just had to be next to Bam, all sweaty and glistening from skating yet somehow not looking as gross as some of the other guys did. MTV star magic, you guessed. You were wondering why the hell you needed to do skate exhibitions in the ass crack of summer when some nerdy looking teen girl handed you a board to sign. Sure, you weren't Tony or Bam, who each had a line of their own nearly twice the size of the rest of the team’s, but you were generally pretty popular. The girl with the glasses was all smiles, leaning in close to you like she was going to ask you something secret, “Hey, I read somewhere that you and Bam, uh- that you had a thing together. Is that really true?”
Bam, who was sitting next to you and well within earshot, scoffed, leaning over with a sneer as you scrawled silver sharpie onto the board, “I’d rather tongue a maggot than Y/N.” You scoffed as you popped the cap back on the pen, “Yeah, the only maggot here’s that thing in your pants.” It was then, as you turned back to the fan who was awkwardly standing there, watching your little lover’s quarrel go down, that you got an idea. A malicious grin spread across your lips as you handed the signed board back to her, “But if you were wondering, I am dating Tim O’Connor. Thanks for being a fan!”
God, if you could see Bam’s face. As much as it pained you to not look over at him, you didn’t, knowing it would be impossible to keep a straight face seeing him all slack jawed. The best part of it was you weren’t dating him- well, not yet, but you didn’t even need to for what you had in mind. Hell, knowing Tim, he’d be game for fucking with Bam any day of the week, even if it mean having to hug and kiss and pretend flirt from time to time. This was the ultimate way to get back at Bam for fucking with you for so long, you thought- your ace in the hole.
You told Tim your plan and he was more than eager to get in on it. You would come up with ideas on the fly whenever you knew Bam was watching, whether it was having you wear one of his shirts on the bus or you giggling when he messed up your hair while you stopped for food on the road, or even the night you shared a bunk- one of your favorites, especially with how pissy Bam looked as he angrily slid the curtain closed on his bed when he saw the two of you. Basically anything you would see in a cheesy romance movie, you did.
But if you thought Bam was a childish asshole before, you had no idea how much worse he could get. No matter where you were, he always seemed to have his eyes on you, glaring under heavy lids across the room. Even though he was still performing well, off the ramps he was this little ball of rage, quietly observing with raised hackles. Gone were the pranks with the team and the playful banter between the two of you. Bam was a tyrant before and even more so now, only a little quieter. He avoided you like the plague, so the only form of communication between the two of you was the sporadic spitting of insults at one another just short of an argument- he’d say something about your appearance, you’d jab at some trick he messed up, and then he’d tell you to fuck off.
His behavior became so uncharacteristic that, at one point, Tony, who was often the only voice of reason, tried to take him to an urgent care because he was obviously sick. Yeah, maybe that’d be a good idea, you thought, a medical professional would probably know how to get that stick out of his ass. No, not in the slightest did you care that you hurt Bammy Boy’s precious little feelings. He was a jerk to everybody, you thought, so he deserved it. It was only after a few weeks of this charade that you started to wonder why the hell he was being such a baby about all this. Bam just seemed to radiate jealousy, especially towards Tim, but there was no way that was the case. It sounded like something straight out of third grade- that boys are mean to girls they like. But, knowing Bam, you couldn’t write that off immediately.
All this tension kept building for a while until it reached a fever pitch. The team had an off day so you all decided to stop by a skate park late in the day to kick back and chill for a few hours before you needed to get back on the road again. The chance to bust out a few tricks without the judging eyes of thousands was a breath of fresh air and everyone was all excited as they filtered out of the bus onto the concrete- that is, everyone except Bam. The little prince of darkness shot you a scowl before he ran off to the bowl with the rest of the guys while you ran off on your own. You were on the mini ramp, enjoying some rare alone time while doing a few simple tricks and thinking about how you could probably run to the Wendy’s across the street to get dinner- one of those baked potatoes would really hit the spot. It was in the midst of that thoughtful silence when you were poised on the coping in a nose stall that the clatter of a board slamming against the ground behind you hit your ears.
You were startled and, turning towards the sound, you felt the ground slip out from under you as you shifted your weight ever so slightly. The world seemed to freeze for a moment as you plummeted to the ground, landing square on the lip with a blunt packing noise, busting your cheek open. The air was knocked out of your lungs as a choked gasp escaped you, reaching up to grasp the raw skin pounded flat against your throbbing cheek bone. Your vision was a blur of orange from the setting sun as you wrenched your eyes open, tilting your head up towards the source of the shadow that looked over you.
“Nice spill.” Struggling to your feet, Bam didn’t even offer to help you, just standing there with his hands in his pockets, watching. Something red hit the concrete when you spit, rubbing off some of the hot liquid from your cheek as your gaze met his, “The fuck’s your problem?” Coughing, your voice was rough, words punctuated by heavy breath as you continued, “You’ve been all pissy for weeks, man. What’s goin’ on?” There was an edge to his voice but he still sounded calm as he reached into his pocket for his pack of Marlboro Lights, still not making eye contact, “Maybe I don’t like seein’ you and Tim eatin’ each others faces- ever thought about that?”
Snatching the cigarette from his fingers, his fingernails painted in that stupid black nail polish he always wore, you growled, “Is that it? Really?” You got all in his angry little face, close enough you could smell the shitty cologne he wore to impress chicks that always made you gag. MTV fuckin pretty boy, always looking his best. Your voice dropped low, murmuring close to his skin, “Maybe you’re just jealous’a him. That he gets to have me and you don’t.” Bam finally met your gaze, staring at you with newfound intensity as the lines between teasing and flirting blurred. He spoke through gritted teeth as he glared down at you bitterly, “Oh yeah? Yeah? You think I can’t fuckin’ have you?” You said nothing, defiant.
Time stood still, but in a second, he was on you. Bam’s hands seized you, tugging you impossibly close to him as his calloused palms traveled up and down your body possessively. It was like something snapped inside of him that was holding him back. You could feel the muscles under his clothes flex as your breath hitched, one of his hands tangling in your hair and pulling you closer. Bam kissed like a starved man, his tongue moving against yours in a lecherous mess of teeth and spit and a little blood on your part. The air swam with a mix of rage and lust as you pulled away from each other after what felt like an hour, catching your breath. Your eyelids fluttered as a weak smile spread across your kiss-sore lips. Whispering under your breath, you leaned your forehead against his, “Holy shit…”
Glancing down at the cigarette still in your hands, you slipped it between your teeth, looking back at him, “Gotta light?”

On 10th December 1928, the hugely influential architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh died in London.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born in the East End of Glasgow in 1868, and is one of its most famous sons. He lived and worked in the city for much of his life, and it was during his studies at the Glasgow School of Art that he met his wife Margaret MacDonald. The pair formed a close artistic collaboration with Margaret’s sister Frances, and Frances’ husband Herbert MacNair, becoming known as ‘The Four’. As was advocated at the school at the time, the group worked cross-disciplinarily, producing designs in many mediums, from furniture to textiles.
Mackintosh is, of course, best known for his astoundingly unique and innovative architectural style. Celebrated today as a leading pioneer of modernism, he had a distinctive vernacular which absorbed traditional Scottish architecture, elements of modernist utilitarianism, and the understated, functional design of Japan (newly opened to the West). His designs, which also embraced natural forms (like his famous ‘rose’) as well as the mechanisation of the industrial revolution, influenced the Art Nouveau movement on the Continent, where his work was met with great acclaim during the eighth Viennese Secession Exhibition in 1900.
His success and productivity as an architect was short lived, with most of his high profile commissions taking place over a mere ten year period, between 1895-1906. As this work dried up, he turned his focus fully to working as an artist in watercolour. He and Macdonald moved to Walberswick, Suffolk in 1914, where he produced delicate and technical studies of flowers and plants. Struggling to make ends meet, the pair then moved to Port Vendres in the South of France, where his painting focused on the natural forms of the coastline juxtaposed against the manmade.
He returned to Britain through illness, and died in London at the age of 60. His legacy grew gradually in the decades after his death, and he is now a household name around the world.
Pics are of the man himself, a Statue of Charles Rennie Mackintosh unveiled on the 90th anniversary of his death in 2018. The sculptor is Andy Scott, one of his more conventional works, Andy’s other work includes The Kelpies. Next is Scotland Street School, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903 and 1906. The building is one of Glasgow's foremost architectural attractions. The Willow Tea Rooms is next, one of Glasgow’s famous treasures for locals and tourists, alike. Finally the sublime Glasgow School of Art library, severely damaged by fire in 2014, almost fully restored then destroyed by a second fire in June 2018, with sadly only the burnt-out shell remaining.
In October 2021 it was announced The Glasgow School of Art ruled out constructing a new building to replace its fire-ravaged Mackintosh building and had opted for a ‘faithful reinstatement’ of the 1909 architectural masterpiece

Unlock the Secrets of Writing Realistic Fiction: Research Strategies for Authors
Understanding the Basics of Writing Realistic Fiction
Understanding the basics of writing realistic fiction is a key part of becoming a successful author. Realistic fiction is a genre of writing that strives to recreate the everyday realities of life as accurately and realistically as possible. It's often based on true-to-life characters and settings, and requires authors to draw on their own experiences and observations in order to create believable stories. To ensure that your writing is as realistic as possible, it is important to familiarize yourself with the genre, understand its core elements, and explore research strategies that can help you create realistic stories.
The Benefits of Writing Realistic Fiction
Writing realistic fiction has a number of benefits for authors, including the ability to draw on the real world for inspiration. Realistic fiction allows authors to create stories that are rooted in reality, allowing them to capture the nuances of everyday life and explore complex themes and issues. Writing realistic fiction also allows authors to create characters that are well-rounded and believable, allowing readers to connect with them on an emotional level. Additionally, by writing in the genre, authors can help create a sense of empathy and understanding between readers and the characters they are reading about. With these benefits in mind, it's clear why writing realistic fiction can be so rewarding and satisfying for authors—and why it's worth taking the time to research and plan your story before you begin writing.
Research Strategies for Writing Realistic Fiction
Research is an important part of writing realistic fiction. It helps to ensure that your story is based in reality and believable to readers. In order to write realistic fiction, authors should use research strategies that will help them to create an accurate and believable story.
When researching for your story, it is important to look for accurate information. This means researching in reliable sources such as libraries, historical societies, and government websites. Additionally, authors should make sure to take notes or keep track of the information they have gathered.
Another important research strategy is to talk to people who have experienced the topic you are writing about. This could include interviewing people, reading memoirs, and observing people in their natural environment. This will help you to create more realistic characters and scenes in your story.
Finally, it is important to keep track of all of your research and use it to inform your writing. Make sure to review your research notes regularly to ensure accuracy and credibility. Additionally, make sure to review your story with a critical eye to make sure that all of the details are true-to-life and believable.
By using these research strategies, authors can create realistic and believable stories that will captivate their readers.
Identifying the Core Elements of Realistic Fiction
Realistic fiction is a type of story that is based on real-life experiences and events. To write a convincing and believable story, authors must identify the core elements of realistic fiction. The most important of these elements are believable characters, a setting that is realistic and plausible, a plot that is believable and engaging, and writing that is vivid and evocative. Identifying and understanding these elements are essential to creating an authentic and believable story. When beginning to write a realistic fiction piece, the author must first decide which elements to focus on. Once these core elements have been identified, the author can begin to develop a story that is both believable and compelling. Researching and gathering information about the elements of realistic fiction will help the author create a story that is well-crafted and engaging.
Structuring Your Writing for Realistic Fiction
Structuring your writing for realistic fiction is an essential part of the creative process. It's important to plan out how you will structure your story before you begin writing. This can help ensure that your story has a logical flow and is consistent throughout. When structuring your writing, you should consider the overall plot arc, subplots, and the pacing of the story. You should also consider how the characters will interact with each other and the overall setting. By considering all of these aspects, you can ensure that your story is structured in a way that will pull readers in and keep them engaged throughout the story.
Crafting True-to-Life Characters
Creating believable characters is an essential part of writing realistic fiction. While it may be tempting to rely on stereotypes or stock characters, it’s important to remember that readers will be looking for characters with realistic motivations, flaws, and personalities. To craft true-to-life characters, authors should start by researching common character traits in their genre. It’s also important to create characters with unique features and backgrounds that will be relatable to readers. Additionally, authors should use research to create characters that are believable within the context of their story’s setting. Finally, it’s important to use research to ensure that characters’ actions and conversations are true to life. By following these tips, authors can ensure that their characters are realistic and engaging for readers.
Setting the Scene with Realistic Details
When writing realistic fiction, it's important to incorporate realistic details to make the story more believable. Setting the scene with realistic details helps to draw readers in and create a more immersive experience. This can be achieved by researching the setting and other details such as the time period and the culture of the characters. Using accurate language and descriptions will add to the authenticity of the story, making it more believable. When writing about a particular location, it's important to research the landmarks, geography, climate, and other relevant details. Knowing the culture of the characters is also essential for setting the scene with realistic details. Researching things such as the architecture, music, food, and language of the location can help bring the story to life. Finally, it's important to research the current events of the time period in order to provide an accurate backdrop for the characters and plot. By researching the setting and other details, authors can create a vivid and believable setting for their realistic fiction story.
Developing a Plotline that is Believable
Developing a plotline that is believable is essential for creating a successful piece of realistic fiction. It’s important to ensure that the plot follows a logical sequence of events. It can be helpful to come up with a basic outline of the story and then brainstorm the details. Ask yourself questions about the characters and their motivations and then use this information to build the plot. A believable plot should also have a clear beginning, middle, and end with rising action towards a climax. Pay attention to the pace of the story and make sure that there are no gaps in logic. When crafting a plot, it’s important to consider both the external and internal conflicts of the characters. This will help to create a realistic storyline that resonates with readers.
Finding Inspiration for Writing Realistic Fiction
As an author of realistic fiction, it’s important to have a source of inspiration for your stories. Fortunately, there are numerous ways to find new ideas and inspiration for writing realistic fiction. One of the best ways is to use research strategies to explore different topics and ideas. Researching different cultural backgrounds, settings, and events can provide writers with insight into the world of realistic fiction. Additionally, authors can draw inspiration from their own personal lives and experiences, incorporating them into their stories. Finally, reading the works of other authors in the same genre can also be a great source of inspiration. By using these strategies, authors can find the inspiration they need to write believable and captivating stories.
Making the Most of Your Research Strategies for Writing Realistic Fiction
Conclusion
Once you have completed your research for your realistic fiction story, it is essential that you make the most of the information you have gathered. To do this, you should take the time to review your notes and highlight the key pieces of information that you will use in your writing. Think about how you can incorporate the details in a meaningful way that will bring your story to life. Additionally, consider how you can use your research to deepen your understanding of the topic and create a realistic and believable story. Finally, be sure to use the research strategies you have developed to keep your story on track and add authenticity to your writing. By doing this, you will be able to create a story that is unique and engaging.

Of all the media mentioned on Moss' Lonely Hearts profile, the only one I'm unfamiliar with is Tek Wars (as I've actually watched the first few episodes of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series).
So, because I'm a longtime lover of media history, I did a not-so-deep dive and found out that TekWar (Moss misspells it) is a whole media franchise, beginning in 1989 with a book series, created by William Shatner.
That's right. Fucking William Shatner.
On the set of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Wiliam Shatner started writing notes for a novel series that would blend elements of both Star Trek and an early eighties police procedural called T.J. Hooker, which is a show he happened to play the titular role on.
So on the set of Star Trek, he was basically writing a fanfiction of...himself? His own shows? Where he was the star? But you know, every hugely successful actor needs some fantasy fulfillment.
So anyway, he wants to write this book, so he does what anyone who wants to write a book would do...he doesn't. Instead he hires a ghostwriter, Ron Goulart, who also ghostwrote for Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Vampirella, and...Groucho Marx? A series of novels about Groucho Marx I guess?
But what's the premise of TekWar?

Basically, "Tek" is an illegal drug in the form of a microchip, which creates a simulated reality.
The protagonist, Jake Cardigan is a former cop framed for dealing Tek who has been sentenced to 15 years of cryo-imprisonment. He has been summoned by a guy named Walter Bascom to solve Tek-related crimes. But Jake's also a recovering Tek user, so he's a bit hard-boiled.
And then he gets a sidekick named Sid Gomez, who Wikipedia oddly refers to as a "good-natured and charismatic Mexican" as of writing this. I have a lot of questions about that phrasing. I am also going to guess no one ever looks at the TekWar Wikipedia page except me. But anyway, they have a buddy cop dynamic going on I guess.
So it's basically a self-insert of William Shatner, who plays T.J. Hooker, but this T.J. Hooker got Han Solo'd (or, alternatively, Austin Powers'd) in cryo-sleep, and is now a Blade Runner for Tek in a society that's basically the DUNE universe.
And with the sidekick storyline it might also be kind of like a hard-boiled detective novel plus In the Heat of the Night?.
Well, whatever it is, it's a whole fucking franchise.
They wrote 9 novels of this. TekWar (1989), TekLords (1991), TekLab (1991), Tek Vengeance (1993), Tek Secret (1993), Tek Power (1994), Tek Money (1995), Tek Kill (1996) , and Tek Net (1997).
I'm absolutely amazed at the creativity of these titles. I mean, literally all of them have "Tek" in them. I'm also really interested in the choice to make "Tek" and the word that follows separate words beginning in 1993.
In 1992, after the release of TekLab, the third TekWar novel, they adapt TekWar into a comic book series called TekWorld.
But they do this with Marvel comics. The principal artist of this series was Lee Sullivan (who's worked on Doctor Who, Robocop, and Judge Dredd comics) and Fabian Nicieza, the comic book writer/editor who created Deadpool.

In 1993, they release TekWar trading cards. Here's somebody selling them on eBay for $12.99 (as of time of writing).

In 1994, it becomes a TV franchise with 4 television movies--TekWar, TekLords, TekWar: TekLab and TekWar: TekJustice (again, the creativity of these names!).

You may be confused why they didn't choose to go from TekLab to Tek Vengeance. Beats me. TekWar: TekJustice is apparently an original movie not based on an existing TekWar property.
And after the 4 TV movies comes an 18-episode TV series, broadcast in Canada between 1994 and 1996. And the episodes are hourlong.
You can find all of the TV movies and the entire TV series very very easily, on the website where most free videos are viewed. So if you're interested in watching all of TekWar, I encourage you to.
youtube
In 1995, they even make a first-person shooter video game called William Shatner's TekWar (an especially funny title that I feel implies William Shatner himself was the in-universe instigator of the Tek-related conflicts).
Now, it's worth noting that William Shatner appears in basically all of the TekWar media, but he doesn't play Jake Cardigan. Which is really interesting, because I feel like even from a superficial look at the summary, and the fact that this is a sci-fi novel written by William Shatner, I can infer that Jake Cardigan might be a little self-inserty.
But no, William Shatner plays Walter Bascom, the summoner of Jake Cardigan. The wise mentor who guides him through the Tek investigations or whatever. Which I suppose is fitting for the actual author of the series to play. Kinda cheeky, I guess.
So the TekWar FPS also includes voiceover of William Shatner as Walter Bascom, apparently.
I didn't want to include the entire walkthrough of the game that's available on YouTube but here's a short clip of the gameplay (since I love the 90s graphics). I think you can hear William Shatner groan sadly when the player dies at the very end, but unfortunately it doesn't include the voiceover.
youtube
Sounds like you need to tell the insurance company you mean business. Call Hupy & Abraham, right now.
Where the fuck is TekWar
Whenever somebody self-funds a vanity project like this, I feel like it's always hard to tell whether sales are actually good and people are watching this, or if the rich person moneypool and star power is what keeps this going.
Apparently TekWar did sell for a period, because schlocky sci-fi TV was so big in the 90s. But the TekWorld comic series was discontinued in August 1994, even after they'd tied the comics into the TV show. Marvel was going through financial issues at the time, but it still makes me think that the comics probably weren't selling all that well even then.
And the entire film/TV franchise being super easy to bootleg, means the studio that made it probably doesn't super care about it.
Most bizarrely, however, there's not a single AO3 fanfiction about TekWar. Not even of Jake Cardigan and Sid!
There's a single 859-word fanfiction on Fanfiction.net, a heartwarming Jake Cardigan father-son story. Set after the Betrayal episode for those who want to avoid spoilers. That is all I found. And I'm happy to plug it here so this person gets reads.
So, is TekWar dead?
Maybe not? They actually did greenlight an adult animated series of TekWar in September 2021, but we haven't heard anything. It's been almost 4 years which I guess you could say is a bad sign, but film/TV is a slow-moving industry, so we won't know for sure until they tell us.
TekWar in the style of Invincible would be a wild combination. Just a thought.
I'm not sure if TekWar fell off, or could fall off considering how low the bar was. So if you know anything about TekWar or are a fan please let me know.
