Naruto Founders HP Houses

I'm still stuck in a Warring Era headspace. I don't generally agree with how the sorting in Harry Potter works, especially when there is so much overlap with a lot of the traits. This is also assuming that the main four brothers have to be divided into the four houses. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so!

Senju Tobirama: I would easily put him into Ravenclaw. While he fits with most if not all of the traits assigned, I'd sort him simply due to his intelligence and creativity. While I could name the countless jutsus and such that he made, I think that his skills towards actually designing Konoha and it's civil structure are often overlooked.

Uchiha Izuna: I think he could debatably go between Slytherin and Hufflepuff but I'm going to put him in Slytherin because his stubbornness outweighs his loyalty to his brother... He's a genius in his own right and there's no denying that but I think a lot of his skill comes from repetition and practice over the basics is what kept him so on par with Tobirama who probably had a new technique every time they fought. If that's not ambitiousness, along with his desire to keep his family safe, I don't know what is.

Senju Hashirama: If I'm honest, I feel like he could go either way for the remaining houses but I'm going to put Hashirama as Gryffindor actually. I think the relationship he has with Tobi pulls at the trope where one sibling underthinks while the other overthinks. He's known as the GOD of Shinobi, right? I think that a certain level of brashness is required to acquire such a title. I'd also argue that Gryffindor's, that Hashirama, doesn't think in a world of black and white but almost absolute grey. (That, in my opinion, is why so many Gryf's in HP are so freakin different at their core.)

Uchiha Madara: This one is a little ironic, almost, but I do think that he's a Hufflepuff. It may be a slight bias on my part because I'm a Puff but I think that they're often misrepresented. I think that a big part of Madara's problems was that his sense of loyalty was literally split between his Izuna, his family, and Hashirama. Disregarding Zetsu and his ability to manipulate others and their debatable will, I think that people all too easily say that Madara is bad because he left the village/went rogue. I just bring this up because going back to loyalty, patience and trustworthiness- Madara's choice was taken out of his hands on multiple accounts. Tobi, when he was the one who got one over on Izuna, when his clan said that they wanted peace with the Senju over the arguable continuation of the war and also when he wasn't voted as the Shodai?

I could go into further detail and again, I don't think that HP sortings are as black and white, nor as simple as it's often depicted to be. Another big thing is at what age they should be considered at sorting. If we're talking straight up eleven years old, I would genuinely put the Uchiha brothers and Hashirama all in Hufflepuff just because they'd be more naive in a lot of ways. Tobirama is and always will be, in my mind, a Ravenclaw and honestly one of the best examples of one. There's so many ways things could have gone differently if any one of them did something different. The ripple effects, as well as the following sortings, of a single change would be drastic to say the least.

Uzumaki Mito: There's not nearly enough known about the Uzumaki in general and what we know about Mito seems like even less than the clan at large, somehow? Either way, I'd say that Mito, at least, is a Ravenclaw... I have so many questions as to what Uzumaki fuinjutsu was actually like between the years of Konoha's founding and when Uzu fell. Still, I think that her Strength of a Hundred seal or whatever, was pretty big even in her time. I think that secondary would probably be Gryffindor based off of vibes and the fact that she left her country to literally join a village that'd been founded by two clans that hated each other since the seeming dawn of time. Pretty crazy.

Senju Touka: This girl is Slytherin through and through. To my knowledge, there's not another kunoichi mentioned during that era for the Senju nor the Uchiha, actually. That being said, I think it's pretty insane that, at least by most fanfics and theory, she took one look at an Uchiha stereotype and said give me a sword and I'll put them in a genjutsu to see how they like it.

Uchiha Hikaku: I feel like a lot of Uchiha's in general..? Could probably be sorted into either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff? I think it's a bit hard to say for sure and I can't really explain it. For sorting sake, I would say Gryffindor because with a lot of stories I've read, the relationship between him, Izuna and Madara is funny.

Uchiha Kagami: Absolute Hufflepuff. If I have one type of trope i like for this time period, it's when baby Uchiha has no sense of self preservation and has to get saved by Tobirama over and over for whatever reasons. Kid takes one look at him and imprints.

For Senju Kawarama and Itama: Kawarama died first, right? It's hard to say for either of them because, I swear, they're only even mentioned in a few episodes at all. I kind of like the idea of Kawa being a Slytherin with Itama prolly being a Puff. Idk.

“James?” Regulus asks nervously.

“Yes, love?”

“Do you… would you… I wanted…” Regulus fumbles over his words.

“Reg?” James puts his hand on Regulus’ bouncing knee and Regulus takes a deep breath.

“I didn’t know if maybe… if you wanted to do something… special on Friday?” Regulus forces the question out, trying not to sound as stupid as he feels.

“Oh…err… sure, if you want.” James looks a little confused. “Any particular reason you want to do something Friday?” James asks, and now Regulus feels really stupid.

This is Regulus’ longest relationship. He’s never made it to six months, and he didn’t know what to expect. Maybe six months isn’t as important as he thought. But it feels important to Regulus, and he just wanted to do a nice dinner or something. But now he feels stupid for even bringing it up.

“Err… no… erm…” Regulus shakes his head and stands up from the couch. “Never mind.” He mumbles and starts to walk away.

James catches his wrist and pulls him back down beside him.

“Hey, no. I just didn’t know if there was a reason you wanted to do something on Friday?” James asks again.

“No. It’s stupid. Never mind.” Regulus tries to stand up again but of course, James doesn’t let him get far, pulling him even closer this time.

“We can definitely do something special on Friday.” James tells him, rubbing circles on the back of Regulus’ hands. “For our anniversary, right?” James asks.

Regulus shrugs pathetically, looking down at his lap. James lifts a hand to Regulus’ chin and tilts his head up.

“I was only curious if there was a reason you wanted to celebrate on Friday, that’s all.” James says sweetly.

“Erm… because it’s our anniversary?” Regulus says, confused because didn’t they just establish that?

“Our anniversary’s on Saturday.” James says simply.

“No. It’s Friday.” Regulus corrects him.

“No. It’s Saturday.” James says with a little chuckle.

“James, you asked me out on the 8th.” Regulus tells him.

“Yeah… but you didn’t say ‘yes’ until the 9th.”

“I… oh.” Is all Regulus can manage to say.

“Now,” James says and pulls Regulus onto his lap. “I have some surprises planned for Saturday, but we can absolutely celebrate on Friday also.”

“No. That’s stupid.” Regulus mumbles as he buries himself in James’ chest, hiding his face that is probably several shades of red.

“Nope. We’re doing it!” James says excitedly. “And I’m disappointed with myself that I didn’t think of it first. So…” James starts talking about what they should do on Friday and Regulus feels so stupidly happy as he cuddles impossibly closer to James.

“BLACK.” James finally snapped. Gasps filled the room and all eyes landed on Sirius. James drops his head in his hands. “Regulus.” He adds quietly.

Now, silence fills the room and James is terrified to lift his head. When he finally does, he sees exactly what he expected—smiles, smirks, and shock from everyone in the room and massive amounts of fury coming from Sirius. What he didn’t expect were the adorable pink cheeks and tiny smile he sees when he eventually looks at Regulus.

“Me?” Regulus asks and James just squeezes his eyes shut and nods. “When?”

“Fourth year. Quidditch locker room. You in a towel and then—"

“Okay! That’s enough.” Sirius cuts him off. “It’s bad enough that my baby brother was your queer awakening. We don’t need details.”

Regulus smirks at James. “You can give me more details later.” Regulus whispers and James feels his entire face heat up but he manages to smile back.

“Ugh, I’m gonna be sick.” Sirius mumbles.

DPxDC Hogwarts AU [pt.7]

"Fenton, Daniel!"

Tim freezes in his seat. His stomach sinks down what feels like all the way to his toes, and it takes an incredible amount of effort to turn his head towards the High Table, where Deputy Headmistress is holding the Sorting Hat, ready for the next first-year to approach her.

The Great Hall is solemnly quiet - as much as it can be, when there's over a hundred people in here, all eager for a chance to catch up after the summer break. Tim hated it when it was his turn to go up and be the center of attention. All those whispers, and muffled snickers, and studying gazes on him, it's like they made his skin itch.

Danny, on a stark contrast, seems to be completely at ease with that, though. He walks up to the front and climbs on the wooden stool with little grace, but he is smiling. He even winks at someone at the Gryffindor table, getting a few chuckles from all around the Hall for his cheeky behavior.

Tim can't take his eyes off him.

He is taller now, which is unsurprising given that it's been more than two years since they've last seen each other. His hair is short, even if it's still a mess on top of his head. But, what's more, he looks.... less round, if that makes sense. His chin is sharper than before, kind of like Mr. Masters'. And the black, unmarked yet robes of the school uniform hang from his shoulders like he's a coat rack and not a human.

The stern woman that greeted them all at the entrance - Professor McGonagall, as she introduced herself - carefully drops the Hat over Danny's head. It tips down, covering the boy's eyes, and-

Tim slowly releases a breath he didn't know he was holding.

It doesn't help the tight, suffocating knot of guilt in his stomach, but at least he is breathing again, so that's good.

How do you forget about a whole ass person?! Because that's exactly what Tim did, he forgot, like Danny's entire existence completely slipped his mind. Which is absolutely mad, and Tim really, really wants to run up and apologize, even if he is not sure what exactly for.

On a second thought, he thinks he knows how, to be honest.

Breaking his leg a week after his ninth birthday, as it turned out, also broke his whole life into 'before' and 'after', and the 'after' was a thousand times more interesting than 'before'. Wayne manor was nothing like his home, no empty halls and cold white curtains, no silence filling his life, no boring, identical days spent in the library. Instead, there was a kitchen where Alfred - who refused to be addressed as Mr. Pennyworth quite insistently - kept bickering with the house elves, and the polished dark railings of the grand staircase that were very fun to slide down, and racing Dick through the hallways, or, sometimes, flying with him above the manor grounds. There was Jason, who read books just for the fun of it and not because he wanted to learn something useful specifically - makes sense for him to be a Ravenclaw - and Bruce, who pouted like a kid every time Tim called him Mr. Wayne, and the portraits of Wayne ancestors who all had an opinion on everything, and three owls, and a secret passageway in the drawing room, and a grumpy ghost in the attic, and Ace, and-

Just everything 'after' was loads better than 'before'.

Which doesn't really excuse Tim from forgetting a person. If anything, it kind of makes him feel even more guilty. Because Danny, even if he was from 'before', was still amazing, and Tim should have... done something. He is not sure what, but definitely not just forget about him.

There are whispers breaking out in the Hall now, Tim notices. It's been almost a minute already, and the Sorting Hat still has not announced a House for Danny, instead grimacing and scrunching its wrinkled face. Which is not that odd if Professor McGonagall's calm face is to prove it, but it hasn't taken its time with anyone else yet.

Someone nudges Tim with an elbow from his left, and when he turns, there's a bulky boy with a crooked, unpleasantly toothy smile, looking at him.

"Your friend?" He asks, and it takes Tim a moment to actually think about the answer. Is he?..

However, before he gets to come to any answer at all, the Hat finally speaks, "HUFFLEPUFF!" And Tim promptly shuts his mouth. No matter his personal opinion on Danny, it's considered uncouth for a Slytherin to be friends with a Hufflepuff. A Ravenclaw friend is acceptable, but the only thing worse than a badger is a lion.

So, at least for now, Tim gives the only answer that is expected of him. Meaning, he winces and huffs, "I'd rather eat a slug," and turns away to watch the table full of black and yellow and laughs and smiles cheer for their new arrival as Deputy Headmistress calls for one Foley, Tucker.

He is still the Heir to Drake family, meaning that even as a first-year in Hogwarts, he needs to keep up with his reputation. Besides, to be fair, he is not even sure if his answer would have been 'yes'. Or if it could have been 'yes' because, in order to figure that out, he'd need to talk to Danny first, and that's-

Well.

Maybe he should think about it later.

Tucker Foley gets to join the Ravenclaw table, and then there are Valerie Gray, Angelina Johnson and Lee Jordan all going into Gryffindor in a row, which is met with roaring applause that gets louder and louder with every new arrival. It kind of makes Tim's head hurt a little.

But, just as he is about to turn back around - it can't hurt to get to know his housemates as soon as possible - he catches a glimpse of another familiar face and stops short.

She is not wearing pink anymore, and, just like Danny, her face looks a lot sharper now, but he would recognize that violently violet glare anywhere.

"Manson, Samantha," Sure enough, Professor McGonagall calls next, and the Hat takes less than a split second on her head to pronounce her a Slytherin. Tim's housemates clap and cheer their welcome, but Sam's gaze is all but zeroed on Tim for the whole time, and it kind of makes him want to shrink down and hide under the table.

"Long time no see, Drake," she drawls as soon as she sits down at his side. Then, just when Tim is opening his mouth to answer, she adds, "Or, should I say, Drake-Wayne?"

"You'd know how to address me, Manson, if you cared to listen when the names were called," he snaps without even thinking, "Other names than yours, that is."

It's not that he is ashamed of associating with Waynes or anything. He is actually rather proud of it. What irritates him is the obvious distaste that the girl shows at him, and the fact that he is not sure if it's because he is, although unofficially, one of the Waynes, or because she is craving some kind of revenge after he ignored Danny, or because of something else entirely.

"I don't pay attention to things that hold no importance," Manson brushes him off with a scoff, her chin held high.

Yeah, okay, he really does need to talk to Danny. Because he likes Danny, or at least because he liked him when he was seven, and because Danny is the only nice person in their year that Tim knows.

And because he also knows that he still absolutely doesn't like Samantha Manson, and he just might be friends with a Hufflepuff in order to spite her.

Notes that turned into rambling and got long again:

A month or so later, Tim makes the mistake of calling Sam 'violent violet' out loud, in the presence of other Slytherins. It sticks with her for the rest of her Hogwarts years. She doesn't like it at first, mostly because she doesn't like Tim and he was the first one to call her so, but she later grows fond of the nickname.

If you didn't catch that by the names mentioned, this is set in 1989, two years before Harry Potter shows up in Hogwarts. So, other first-years of importance that went unmentioned in text were Weasley twins, Cedric Diggory, Cassius Warrington, and Stephanie Brown, who is a Hufflepuff now, by the way. I considered putting her in Gryffindor (because, admittedly, she is very brave), but decided against it because in my head, her first and foremost character trait is loyalty to her own beliefs.

While Hufflepuffs are usually portrayed as kind and timid, I believe that what this House values most is a strong will and the desire to do what is fair and just. Hufflepuffs set a goal and reach it even when the world is against them, fight for it even when their hands bleed. Hufflepuffs stand up when they are knocked down, no matter how many times they have to. If Gryffindor is fire, Slytherin is water, and Ravenclaw is air, then Hufflepuff is earth. It's a mountain, a stone, a power that you don't pay attention to most times. You don't notice how hard the ground you're standing on is until you try digging it with your bare hands.

Steph might not be your 'traditional Hufflepuff', but she is hell-bent on getting her way.

Also, I think it's funny to have her and Danny in the same House. Also also, I think it's even funnier to have Steph bemoaning how her House colors are absolutely clashing with her regular clothes and acessories, which are all shades of purple.

By the way, that guy who asked Tim if Danny is his friend was Marcus Flint.

Re: more eat the rich

It comes down, I think, to a particular moral framework that TA seems to ascribe to. JK Rowling is another good example. There's a name for it.. it might be Calvinist?

Basically: The problem isn't having rich people, it's having the *wrong* rich people. You're not a part of an exploitative system that concentrates wealth, you're a *bad rich person*.

The same lens is used for everything else. Nothing is actually systemic. The *system* can't be questioned, only individual actors within the system can be called out as bad at fulfilling their role.

If you use this lens to examine other points in ML that seem weird, I think you'll find they suddenly seem more coherent.

Now- this approach is patently wrong on it's face, but that never stopped people from believing in anything, ever.

The word you're looking for is probably "neoliberalism" and I've noticed it, too! I haven't mentioned it because JK Rowling and her works have become such an upsetting topic for many fans and former fans, but Miraculous absolutely matches Harry Potter's concerning messaging about people being the issue, not the system. The system is inherently good and should not be questioned. I hated that as a kid because I was an avid reader and this wasn't how this kind of story was supposed to go! Why wasn't anything being fixed? Why weren't the inequalities being address? Why weren't the slaves being set free? What is this mess? Don't show me a broken system if you're not going to fix it!!!

If anyone is curious about this world view, I'll give you a video essay on the topic of why Harry Potter is just like that. It's about JK Rowling's political views and how it's reflected in her books which does indeed match Miraculous with things like systems being inherently good and people falling into the categories of "good" and "bad" based on their world view or "team alignment" instead of their actions. The last one really shows up in Miraculous as you can see with the redemption nonsense. Nathalie is inherently good so we welcome her to the good side with no effort required. Chloe is inherently bad so redemption is impossible. Marinette is inherently good so her being mean to Kagami is no big deal. Chloe is inherently bad so her being mean to Marinette in similar ways is horrifically wrong. Really depressing way to view the world.

There are other similarities, too. I'm going to have the video start at the part where it really dives into the neoliberalism stuff, but I encourage you to rewind to the start and watch the hour before that part as it's still relevant to this discussion. Pretend it's about Miraculous and you'll be shocked how many matches there are! It's honestly kind of fun. Like there's a section that talks about time travel and how it was solved by just removing time travel from the universe in an incredibly forced manner and a section that talks about the house elves thing that you could easily port over when talking about the Kwamis. I think about the Kwamis' being slaves a lot. It's a lot more subtle than HP, but it's still there with things like Su-Han talking about how it's bad that Plagg is out of the box since he's supposed to be locked away forever apparently. A line that's played like a joke not an indication that a freedom movement is needed. Nooroo is the only Kwami whose enslavement is a problem because he has a bad master. The other kwamis being slaves is fine for some reason...
