My name is Mahmoud Naeem Abu Hatab, from Gaza.
I am a university student majoring in Software and Databases at Al-Azhar University. Since the beginning of my academic journey, I have been passionate about User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design, as well as website development. These fields inspire me, and I dream of advancing my skills and building a professional career in them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, during the recent war, I lost my laptop, which was essential for both my studies and work. I was forced to flee my home and relocate to southern Gaza due to the difficult circumstances. Despite my efforts to replace my laptop, the financial situation has made it impossible to afford a new one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Without a laptop, continuing my studies or seeking job opportunities in programming and design has become extremely challenging. This directly affects my academic progress and future career.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today, I am reaching out to ask for your support to help me purchase a new laptop. Having a laptop would allow me to resume my studies and work on programming and design projects that are crucial for improving my skills. It is a vital step towards completing my education and pursuing my dream of becoming a professional in programming and UX/UI design.

Super Soldier Theater: The Little Mermaid
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader, Steve Rogers x Reader, Stucky x Reader. It's not specific. No pronouns assigned to Reader past "you".
Summary: Bucky Barnes missed out on a lot while being controlled by HYDRA. Steve Rogers missed out on even more being frozen in ice. Since Sam has made it his mission to update them on music, you decide that it's your job to update them on what they've missed out on in cinema.
Chapter Summary: Deciding that the guys need a break from blood, monsters, and people getting eaten you decide that it's time to start them on Disney's animated movies. So, naturally, you choose The Little Mermaid. Nothing horrifying happens in that...right?
Word Count: 6.5K
Warnings: Mild Language (Steve will deal), warnings that come with The Little Mermaid, Bucky and Steve questioning logic and people's intelligence, Strong reactions to Ursula, Alpine being angry, other stuff I probably forgot.
A/N: Yeah...this...took a turn. Poll for the next movie is at the end. If you notice typos along the line of he instead of the or is instead of his, like a word out of place. It's my keyboard. I do not support my work being put into AI in any fashion

You needed a break from MythBusters.
You didn’t regret introducing them to the show, but you needed a break from it. Reluctantly they agreed when you promised them it was going to be something completely different. Something classic and kid friendly.
Disney animation. The Little Mermaid to be exact.
You had debated starting with a different movie. Not Snow White. They were familiar with that. You contemplated starting with The Aristocats but decided against it after the mission they’d come back from and after deciding you didn’t need them trying to off the butler by dismantling the tv screen. Same thing with 101 Dalmatians.
Someone making a Poor Unfortunate Souls reference that they didn’t get was what tipped the scales towards The Little Mermaid for you. The fact that it was animation intrigued them both from the moment you mentioned that it was Disney. Still it took a few days for you all to actually be able to sit down and watch it together due to the mission debriefings that kept postponing movie night.
“Finally…a night at home…” Steve sighed as he put his feet up with his bowl of popcorn on one side of you while Bucky nodded with his Cracker Jack box on the other, “That mission was just…”
“Stupid.” Bucky said while handing you the remote.
“It was necessary, Buck.” Steve said but nodded when Bucky looked at him silently, blue eyes locked on blue eyes with a flat, unflinching gaze, “I could have gone without the crazy ferry boat guy trying to hide the explosives in a gas can stuffed with crawfish singing about crustaceans, though.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t jump on it.” You said and Steve sighed.
“The grenade was a dummy.”
“Don’t act like you haven’t jumped on anything else since then.” Bucky replied and you nodded in agreement while getting the movie started and Steve just licked his lips and sighed while shaking his head.
“Alright, enough. Time to watch the movie. Same rules as always. This is Disney so it’s different from the original tale written by Hans Christian Anderson by…a lot, but…it’s got music, pretty animation, and romance. There’s also a very fluffy dog.”
“Mao!” Alpine meowed from her perch on the couch and you reached over to pet her gently.
“You’re better, sweetie, and you know it.” You said, smiling as she purred, “Alright. Ready?”
They nodded so you hit play and relaxed, watching the opening castle sequence and waiting to see how long it’d take before you had to hit pause. You had a feeling you knew when and you weren’t wrong.
Their delighted fascination at the images dancing across the screen before them soon shifted to a glance of expectant knowing on Steve’s face and one of mischievous teasing on Bucky’s when Sir Grimsby’s green seasick face came on screen.
You paused.
“Get it out of your system.” Steve sighed and Bucky chuckled.
“That’d be you on that ship.” He said and Steve just rolled his eyes but nodded.
You said nothing and hit play again.
They were soon enraptured with the animation again. The colors, the fluidity, and the music. It was calming and they watched silently. Relaxed.
Then the seahorse herald announced King Triton’s arrival with his dolphin chariot lighting the chandelier in front of an ecstatic crowd. Steve narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. You weren’t entirely sure what was going to come out of his mouth but you knew it was something. Really you should have expected it.
“Why are those dolphins like horses but the seahorse has the frill thing?” he asked and you shut your eyes while silently chuckling and shaking your head.
“Because it’s Disney, Steve.” You said but Bucky had his own answer.
“Because you’d probly need 300 of those seahorses to pull Triton instead of three dolphins.” He said and Steve nodded.
You just shook your head and hit play again.
They watched the seahorse announce Sebastian excitedly then laughed when his fanfare was then played with a chorus of kazoos. The goldfish pulling him neighing like horses made Steve gesture at the TV again while Bucky narrowed his eyes and nodded in agreement.
“Disney.” You repeated and they gave up for the moment, watching the king and crustacean talk.
“What exactly is Sebastian?” Bucky asked while leaning over.
Steve answered.
“I think he’s a crab.” He said and you nodded and hit play so they could listen to Sebastian compliment Triton’s daughters and Ariel’s singing before complaining about Ariel not showing up to rehearsals.
You then stopped them from asking about how there was paper underwater, reminding them it was a cartoon before they silenced themselves to listen to the song Triton’s daughters sang. All with A names that the pair didn’t comment on.
They did comment on the huge empty clam shell opening up and Sebastian’s face in response along with Triton’s reaction. You paused, knowing this was going to be a more longwinded thing judging by Bucky’s face.
“They remind me of that one teacher we had whenever Steve would get into a fight in school.” He said and Steve thought and nodded.
“Yeah. Panic then anger, but it wasn’t my fault and you didn’t help.” He said and Bucky looked at him.
“Next time you ever have to go back in time make sure you tell my younger self to let you get flattened by Big Jim Bunson and every other guy in school.” He retorted.
“Don’t start.” You warned and pressed play when they nodded so you could watch the introduction of Ariel and Flounder.
They totally agreed with Flounder when he panicked about sharks. Then they stared in horror when it came into view. You mentally sighed.
You forgot about the shark scene.
“I feel so bad for Flounder…” Bucky said and Steve nodded before they both just stared dumbfounded at the screen when Ariel found the fork.
“Have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life?!”
“Yeah.” Bucky said, “S’called a fork.”
Steve nodded and looked at Flounder when he questioned what it was before looking at Ariel when she said she didn’t know, “It’s basically the same shape as you fathers tri-the shark is outside.”
“Hmm…I wonder what this one is?”
“You have worse self-preservation instincts than Steve.” Bucky while shaking his head and Steve was too busy staring wide-eyed at the shark looming up behind Flounder in the window.
They watched carefully, and tensely, as the shark attacked and the chase scene began. Predictably they both yelled at Ariel when she went back for her bag with her things in it. They were relieved at the end when they got away.
They watched Scuttle, both arching an eyebrow but you waited until they looked at you when he declared the fork to be a dinglehopper. You remained silent and just smiled when they looked at you again when the bird described what the “dinglehopper” was used for. Then you paused.
“She has hair.” Steve said and you nodded.
“Her sisters have hair done up in hairstyles.” Bucky said and you nodded again.
“Do they not have combs?” Steve asked and you shrugged.
“I don’t know. I’m not a mermaid.” You replied and hit play and then pause again after Scuttle “explained” the use of the pipe and dated it back to prehistoric times when humans just stared at each other all day.
“I am so glad Sam isn’t here right now.” Bucky said and looked at you sternly when you smirked, “Don’t even say it.”
“Mm…I’ll be merciful. For now.” You smiled and Steve snickered before they watched as Ariel remembered the concert finally and took off.
At least until Flotsam and Jetsam showed up with their glowing eyes and Ursula made her first appearance.
Bucky shook his head back and forth at the screen, “No.”
“She’s a cartoon character, Bucky.” You soothed and he shook his head.
“No. I don’t like her. She’s evil. Why the tentacles?” He asked and Steve looked at you before he kept going, “Did they know? I doubt HYDRA would let themselves be portrayed as evil. I don’t remember anything to do with Disney.”
“Calm…breathe. It’s a children’s movie…” you soothed and he looked at you.
“She’s nightmare fuel!”
“She’s half calamari.” You replied and he calmed down with a deep breath, chuckling as Steve did when they both remembered what you had dubbed the HYDRA logo back when they first met you.
Calamari on Skull Island.
“Yes, she’s evil, but…it’s a Disney movie. They only stopped making the villains obviously different in recent years and they still actually kinda do that so…Ursula.” You continued and he nodded before letting you hit play again.
They watched as Triton scolded his daughter and as Sebastian helped him do so before Flounder attempted to defend her only to get her into more trouble when he mentioned the crazy seagull.
“What’s he got against humans?” Steve asked you and you paused when Ariel swam off upset with her father.
Bucky nodded, “Yeah, I mean…I get we kind of suck but it’s not that great and safe in the ocean. You got Jaws’s relative and then the tentacle lady. Not exactly safe.”
You paused to answer, thinking about it for a moment on how, “Well…it’s kinda complicated. This movie has sequels. Disney sequels…kind of have a reputation as being…crap compared to the originals. Some aren’t as bad as others. One of the ones for this explains why he hates humans so I’m…a bit torn on telling you outright. I’m leaning towards no because I want you both to see this as I did. The sequels took a good while to come out so Triton hating humans was just a thing for a long time that people theorized about.”
They nodded and accepted that answer. Pressing play again you all watched as Triton sighed, moped, and Sebastian complained about teenagers. It also allowed them a moment to see Triton as a concerned father, though you knew what was coming was going to trigger some thoughts from both.
Until that moment, though you watched them both stare flatly at the screen when Sebastian went off on what he’d do if Ariel was his daughter. Then they nodded when Triton thought before shaking their heads when he assigned Sebastian to keep an eye on Ariel.
“Saw that coming.” Bucky said and you and Steve both nodded then watched as Sebastian caught Ariel sneaking off with her bag and followed her, “It is so weird watching him swim…”
“Yeah…” Steve nodded as they watched him swim into Ariel’s grotto and stare at all the human stuff while Ariel sulked.
“I just don’t see things the way he does. I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things…could be bad.” She said; Bucky didn’t miss a beat.
“Try living in it.”
“SHH!” Steve shushed him when Ariel started singing.
You were surprised when they both just watched, listened, and thought. Quite honestly you were expecting some sort of comment but they both sat, listened, and watched. At least until you understood that it connected with them in two different ways…but that thought was quickly displaced.
“I betcha on land, they understand, they don’t reprimand their daughters. Bright young women, sick of swimmin’, ready to stand!”
“No.” both of them said shaking their heads and you sighed and paused.
“What?” Bucky asked blinking at you, “We all know that’s not what it’s like. ‘Specially back in the 40s.”
“Yeah. I mean…it’s better now but c’mon.” Steve said, “We’re adults and we get yelled at all the time. Sure we’re men but look at what Nat’s had to go through.”
“Yelena.” Bucky added.
“Peggy was far from typical for the day.” Steve added and Bucky nodded as did you.
“I know, but Ariel’s a teenager idealizing a world she’s fascinated with. Y’know…grass is always greener type of thing? Movie?” you reminded them and they nodded before allowing you to hit play again.
They returned to watching the rest of the musical sequence, enjoying it until Sebastian crashed into everything and started freaking out. Then they watched as she spotted the boat passing overhead and swam off, completely ignoring Sebastian. The question that came next was one that got you pretty good.
“Wait. It’s nighttime?” Steve asked and you nodded slowly, “How’s there light under the water then?”
“Yeah. I thought it’d be daytime. Sure it’s murky but…it’s underwater.” He said and you blinked.
It wasn’t exactly something you’d paid attention to, still you just shrugged and answered as simply and honestly as you could, “Movie logic.”
They nodded and let you hit play again to watch as Ariel surfaced and stared in wonder at the fireworks before swimming towards the boat. Comments on her self-preservation instincts followed. Then comments on the dog when Alpine meowed at the screen.
“C’mere, Al.” Bucky soothed and scooped her up to put her on his lap and pet her, “You’re better.”
“Mao.” She replied and purred, watching with him when Ariel spotted Eric and instantly fell in love.
Then Scuttle showed up.
“Is that seagull drunk?” Bucky asked and Steve thought for a moment.
“The seagull sounds familiar.” He said and Bucky nodded.
“Y’know…yeah. Rewind it.” He said and you rewound it to play the seagull again, and then again, “This is gonna drive me nuts…”
“Leonard Hacker.” Steve said and Bucky nodded, “He was enlisting about the same time we were. He’s not drunk it’s just how he talks.”
You googled it and nodded, “Yeah, Buddy Hackett was his stage name. Served three years in an anti-aircraft battery.”
Bucky nodded, “Alive?”
“No. He passed in 2003.” You explained and they shook their heads.
“Shame.” Bucky said and Steve nodded and you hit play again to let them watch Ariel swoon over Eric then watch Sir Grimsby introduce Eric’s statue of a very over the top statue before complaining about Eric not being about to get married, “I take it back. He’s not you, Steve. He’s Sam.”
“He’s Nat if she got seasick and was a man.” He replied and you shook your head at them then listened to Eric say that when he finds the girl of his dreams he’ll know.
“It’ll hit me. Like lightning.” He said and the clouds in the distance started flashing.
“Hurricane acomin’!”
You saw various questions on their faces when the hurricane was announced yet they didn’t say anything. They simply shook their heads and watched as the storm battered and hit against the boat and the sailors before it suddenly ran aground.
“Y’know. He’s goin’ back for his pet. He’s alright.” Bucky said before sighing as the screen focused on the powder barrel, “Of course they’re gonna blow him up.”
You bid your time and held your tongue. You knew you’d get your opportunity soon.
“Well, at least Ariel’s saving him. I mean, he should be in worse condition than that but…it’s a Disney movie.” Steve said and you nodded while watching the scene shift to the beach where Ariel was tending to Eric, “Okay, how’d she get him all that way out of the water?”
“Probly durin’ high tide and then just…kept hold of him. Or she’s stronger than she looks. She’s a mermaid.” Bucky replied and Steve nodded, eating some of his popcorn before choking on it as he laughed at Scuttle peeling Eric’s eye open then listening to his foot for a heartbeat.
Bucky laughed with him as well and you couldn’t help joining them even as Ariel started singing happily again when Eric started breathing. They calmed as Eric started coming around. Then, when the shot of Ariel looking down at Eric with the sun behind her came on…you couldn’t help yourself.
“So when Steve rescued you from the HYDRA base in Austria was that what he looked like with the light?” you asked and Bucky looked at you while Steve tried not to laugh again.
“I thought I was hallucinatin’ and then I was very confused because he was tall.” He answered and you nodded, smiling, “You’re up to somethin’…I know that smile.”
“Yeah…” Steve said slowly; you just smiled more and kept silent while hitting play.
The urge to point out the similarities between them and Eric and Ariel was strong, but you resisted. For now at least.
They let it go for the moment, watching Grimsby tease Eric about drinking too much sea water. Watching them watch Sebastian go on about forgetting the whole episode they’d been through so he’d stay in one piece you knew a comment was coming as it went in one ear and out the other with Ariel.
Bucky shook his head and glanced at you, “You’re saying Ariel is Steve…and y’know what? I agree. Talkin’ to him about not doing something dangerous is like talking to a brick wall. That whole thing. That was me back in the 40s tryin’ to keep him out of trouble. In one ear out the other.”
“What?” Steve asked with a smile that smile he wore whenever he was being purposely difficult and Bucky just shook his head while rolling his eyes and turning back to the screen when you unpaused it then paused it again when Ariel sang as Eric and Grimsby walked away, “They can’t hear that?”
“Apparently not.” Bucky answered and took a bite from his Cracker Jack box and you hit play again instantly causing him to scowl as the eels showed up and Ursula returned and started gloating about how easy it was before it showed her “garden”, “Ugh…what the hell did she do to them?”
“I don’t know, Buck, but it’s not right.” Steve said scowling at the screen.
“That entire lady isn’t right.” Bucky said and they watched the scene shift to Ariel with her sisters and the one announcing to their father that Ariel was in love, “Huh…”
“Triton took that well.” Steve said and the scene shifted to Sebastian pacing back and forth while Ariel daydreamed and picked petals to determine whether Eric loved her or not, “Well at least she has a plan.”
Bucky nodded then watched Sebastian try to get Ariel to stop daydreaming about Eric before the next music number began. They watched and listened, nodding with Sebastian reminding Ariel that the fish got eaten on the surface. All while Ariel went on unimpressed.
They continued watching as Sebastian went on about all the different fish and Flounder whispered some sort of plan. Sebastian was clearly having fun and they were clearly enjoying the animation and music, but neither were surprised when it ended with Ariel missing.
“Yep.” Bucky nodded, “I know how that feels. Enjoyin’ yourself…then you look over and…where’d they go?”
Steve said just pointed at the screen as it showed Triton happily imagining who the lucky merman to get his daughter was, “Shh.”
Bucky shook his head and scratched Alpine on the ears when she nudged his hand for attention. They both watched Triton question Sebastian and Sebastian try, and fail, not to panic or say anything.
They both then tilted their heads at the sight of the statue in Ariel’s grotto.
“This reminds me…” Bucky started and Steve sighed, “Yeah. Of that one weapons dealer that had a shrine to you.”
“Look, I know it was weird…but…well it was weird and yeah. It does.” Steve said and gestured at the screen, “I wanna know something more important. How’d Flounder get that statue into the grotto? It sinks so it’s obviously heavy.”
You knew he was just trying to divert the attention off of that particularly strange and somewhat uncomfortable mission, but you paused anyway. Bucky was nodding in agreement with him. They were also both looking at you.
“Disney…” you reminded them and they looked at you, eyebrows raised, “Look I don’t know how Flounder got the statue into the grotto. I don’t think it’ll even fit through the skylight. It’s a cartoon. For all we know he had a bunch of his family help him move it. Just watch the movie and stop questioning cartoon logic.”
They both nodded and you hit play. They grimaced at the sight of Triton watching his daughter swim about and cling to the statue of Eric. They watched the argument that took place, both shaking their heads.
Then they both scowled when Triton charged up the trident and destroyed all of Ariel’s treasures. Then Bucky scowled even more when the eels showed up and started talking.
“No.” he said and Steve looked at him.
“I mean, I can see how she’s tempted.” He said and Bucky looked at him scowling, “It’s not the same.”
“Of course you’d see how she’s tempted.”
“Don’t you two start arguing.” You said and hit play and they watched Ariel swim off with the two eels and Sebastian try to stop her.
“I agree completely with everything the crab says about Ursula. Stay the hell away from Tentacle Lady.” Bucky said and groaned when Ariel told the crab off, “Of course.”
“Well at least he’s not giving up.” Steve said and they looked at Ariel’s lair, “Okay she has an evil villain lair.”
“Yeah…that’s not creepy or a warnin’ sign.” Bucky added while petting Alpine, “She’s livin’ in the skeleton of a giant sea dragon thing. Sure. Totally fine. The shriveled-up husks of the Sea Witch’s victims are trying to stop you and you keep on going because this is such a good idea.”
You just let Bucky complain as Ursula talked and you looked at both him and Steve when she started singing. They both scowled. Then they gave her a new name.
“Zola.” They both said and you paused the movie while looking at them and they gestured at the screen.
“You can’t say we’re wrong.” Steve said, “HYDRA scientist. Got arrested. Given a reprieve by the government to start over and work for them. Still completely devoted to HYDRA and evil the whole time.”
Bucky nodded, “Yeah. ‘Oh, Sargent Barnes, you look so weak and tired, here let me strap you to this gurney and make you feel all better with my homebrewed super soldier serum’. That is Madam Zola.”
“She’s a cartoon character, boys.” You reminded them, hit play, then paused again when Ursula gave Ariel three days.
“Three days?!” Steve asked and you nodded.
“Same amount of time in the original story.” You said and they shook their heads and shook their heads when Ursula asked if she and Ariel had a deal.
They then shook their heads again when she asked for Ariel’s voice as payment. They watched in horror as Ursula made the potion while going on about how Ariel wouldn’t need her voice because human men really only wanted quiet women that were pretty and dumb. Both just shook their heads with sighs yet before they could say anything about that they were both face palming when Ariel signed the contract.
The wide-eyed look on their face while Ursula cackled insanely, shaded green on the tv was almost comical. Alpine hissing at the screen was, but you managed to hold it in
They watched as Sebastian and Flounder rushed Ariel to the surface after she was turned human. Alpine watched as well, meowing when the dog Max appeared on the screen again as Eric daydreamed about Ariel’s voice. Steve’s eyes narrowed.
“He’s not gonna recognize her because she can’t talk.” He said and you smiled.
“Mmmm…maybe.” You said and they watched as Ariel marveled over her feet and toes.
Then they shook their heads as Scuttle arrived and tried to guess what was different about her until Sebastian blurted it out angrily then began freaking out and panicking. They watched as he slowly understood when Ariel looked at him before agreeing to help her. Then raised their brows when Scuttle said he was going to dress Ariel like a human.
“Oh this’ll be good.” Steve said and Bucky nodded, petting Alpine when she cuddled into him more as Max barked, “Just a cartoon dog, Al.”
“Mao.” She replied and Bucky nodded.
“Not real.” He said and nodded at what Scuttle dressed Ariel in, “I was imagining much worse actually.”
“Yeah.” Steve nodded, “So was I.”
You nodded in agreement and watched as they watched while Eric discovered Ariel and she smiled at him excitedly.
Then you waited as Eric looked at her, staring into her eyes as if he had a revelation only to say she looked familiar as he looked at her thoughtfully. Thoughtfully but cluelessly and obviously not remembering the person that saved his life.
“Have we met?”
Steve looked at Bucky. Bucky hit the pause button himself and looked at Steve and then you. You tried not to smile, but it was a lost cause.
“Yeeessss?” you asked and he licked his lips, eyes narrowed as he gathered his thoughts and Steve just smiled slowly and full of amusement that bordered on mischief mixed with retribution.
“I’ll get you for this.” He said and you blinked at him as innocently as you could, “Don’t give me that. You’re both telling me that I’m Eric.”
“Yes.” You nodded and smiled more, “And if you start trying to get me back for it…we’re gonna watch Alien next and that will give you nightmares.”
“We already know aliens exist.” Bucky said and you tilted your head with a smile.
“How about the kind that burst out of your chest after hugging your face against your will?” you asked and he looked at you in horror, “Yeah…so…shush and watch the nice animated cartoon movie where you get to be an oblivious prince and Steve is a sheltered mermaid that thinks forks are hairbrushes.”
Steve laughed until he scowled, “I am not Ariel.”
“You are so Ariel.” Bucky retorted and you hit play so they could watch Ariel and Eric interact and watch her try to pantomime an explanation to him that she lost her voice before falling into his arms, “Yep. You.”
“Shut up, Eric.” Steve retorted and Bucky scowled at him.
“Knock it off.” You said with a smile, “Ariel.”
They both quieted down so you hit play again, the scene with Ariel enjoying her first bubble bath playing out with Sebastian being subjected to a scrubbing board and then being flattened. They both grimaced at it then tilted their heads when he was just flattened. A look from you silenced them, causing them to nod and mumble “cartoon, right” before watching as Sebastian landed in the kitchen.
“Oh no…” Steve said and you smiled as Sebastian fainted at the sight of stuffed crabs.
They then watched as Eric argued with Grimsby before staring in awe at how pretty Ariel was when she was presented to him. They nodded as he pushed her chair in for her, clearly approving, then they both shook their heads when she started to use the fork to brush her hair and blew into the pipe. What really got a reaction from them was hearing the chef’s “special” was.
“Stuffed…”
“Crab?”
“Yep.” You smiled, “And now the musical number Les Poissons. Queue the crazy French chef guy singing about how much he loves fish and cooking them…with murderous glee.”
“What?” they both asked and you just pointed at the screen.
They jumped as he started chopping up the fish with hard zealous strikes of his cleaver. Faces contorted in confused horror while Sebastian nearly puked at the sight of it. Looking at them you could see they felt sorry for the crab.
Looking at Alpine you could tell she was getting hungry.
“Hee hee hee…”
“Haw…haw…haw…”
You snickered but didn’t pause.
“Zut Alors! I have missed one!”
“Run Sebastian! Run!” Bucky said and Steve nodded.
“Guy loves his job but there’s something not right in his head.” Steve added, eyes wide as the chef started to prepare the little crab and stuff him, “He’s still alive!”
“Eh? What is this? Oh!”
They both jumped as the music shifted and Sebastian began fighting back and trying to escape. Heads bobbed to the music as smiles spread across their faces. At least until Louis the chef dove headfirst towards Sebastian with the cleaver in his hand.
“I think I’d better go see what Louis is up to.”
“You really don’t want to do that, ma’am.” Steve said and Bucky shook his head.
“No…it’s…gonna be bad.” He said and flinched at the mess depicted in the next scene then stared Steve at the sight of the chef’s torn clothes and disheveled appearance, “You need a new job.”
“I hope they’re not gonna serve her fish…” Steve said they watched Eric gaze at Ariel and Bucky smiled.
“See. He recognizes her. He’s not me.”
“Mhmm…” you nodded, knowing fully well what was gonna happen later and they watched Sebastian scamper across the table into Ariel’s dish she slammed shut before agreeing to join Eric on a tour of his kingdom the next day.
“Wonderful! Now let’s eat before this crab wanders off my plate!” Grimsby said with a smile.
“Too late.” You all said at the same time and laughed lightly then watched Ariel gaze down at Eric playing with his dog only to wave shyly and retreat bashfully into her room when he noticed her.
“And she’s still using the fork to brush her hair…” Bucky said and listened to Sebastian talk about the day being the single most humiliating one of his life then watched Ariel sink into the bed.
Both Steve and Bucky nodded but otherwise were silent while listening to Sebastian go on about what to do the next day to Ariel to get Eric to kiss her. That’s when the silence ended.
“Crabs don’t have lips.” Steve said and Bucky looked at him.
“Cartoon.” He reminded him and nodded when seeing that Ariel was asleep, “Yep. She takes advice as well as you do, too.”
You just shook your head at the two, “Don’t start.”
They nodded and watched as the seahorse ran back to Triton, reporting that they couldn’t find Ariel or Sebastian anywhere. They were clearly conflicted about how they felt about Triton at this point. Seeing a need for them to voice this you paused on the image of Triton sitting on his throne regretfully.
“You lost your temper is what you did.” Bucky said and Steve nodded.
“Yeah, after being a racist jerk, but…I have to give it to him…he at least seems to care about his kids.” He said and you nodded as did Bucky.
“Yeah…just wants to keep ‘em safe. Can’t blame him for that…but…y’know…if he wasn’t so hardheaded this might not have happened.”
“Yeah, but Ursula would have still found a way to interfere.” Steve said and Bucky nodded vigorously.
“Oh yeah. No doubt. She’s still gonna do something horrible.” He said and you nodded and pressed play when they signaled for you to.
They watched as Ariel was given a tour of the kingdom, enjoying the sights, scenes, and activities, including dancing. Bucky nodded with approval, for a moment. Then he shook his head.
“No…no…don’t let her drive! She’s Steve! You don’t let Steve…drive.” He said and shook his head as Ariel took off.
“I don’t drive like that.” Steve protested and gestured at the screen, “Besides they’re fine. See?”
You just shook your head and they looked at the screen when Scuttle said that the scene called for vocal romantic stimulation.
“I do not think ‘seagull song’ as romantic stimulation.” Bucky said with a chuckle Steve shared while shaking his head.
“No. Yes, Sebastian you’re surrounded by amateurs.” He said and tilted his head, “How’d they all know to listen to him?”
Bucky sighed, “Because Sebastian is a famous court composer. I don’t know. Shh, maybe you can learn something about setting a mood for once.”
“What’s that mean?” Steve said and you looked at him.
“Shh.” You said and he sighed and they watched, then watched Eric try to guess Ariel’s name.
“She does not look like a Mildred.” Bucky said and Steve shook his head.
“Rachel isn’t too bad. Wait, he can actually understand Sebastian?” Steve asked and you nodded.
“Disney movie.” You reminded him and they watched as the animals sang and then as the flamingos shut Scuttle up before the kiss was interrupted by the eels knocked them both out of the water.
“I knew it!” Bucky said and pointed at the screen, “Don’t you call Ariel a tramp you over-purpled calamari broad! I hope Jaws eats you.”
“What is she doing?” Steve asked you and you just pointed at the screen.
“Just watch and Jaws isn’t in this movie.” You said and Bucky looked at you still gesturing at the screen as Eric played his flute and moped.
“There’s a shark! That counts!” he said and you nodded then they both glared when Ariel’s voice started playing out of the shell around the mysterious woman’s neck and cast the spell on Eric.
“Oh…hell no!” Bucky growled while staring wide-eyed full of wrath at the screen.
“Shit.” You thought to yourself, “Movie! Cartoon! Calm…down…”
“Did she just brainwash Eric?” Steve asked and you threw a piece of popcorn at his head, “Hey! No throwin’ food!”
“Shut up!” you said and gestured at Bucky glaring at the screen.
“She’s right, Buck. It’s a movie.” He said and Bucky nodded, taking a deep breath.
“Right. Movie. Cartoon. Disney.” The ex-assassin nodded, relaxing then scowled at Scuttle flying in and excitedly babbling to Ariel “He’s getting married…not to Ariel. He’s getting married to that evil b-yep. There she is.”
“Oh no…” Steve said, shaking his head.
“I know and if this were the original story you’d be both very upset, but this is Disney.” You said and they looked at you briefly before scowling at Ursula singing in the mirror, “In the original story he does get married to some princess he thought rescued him, but it’s not the sea witch, though she does try to get Ariel to stab them both with a dagger so she doesn’t turn into sea foam.”
“What?” they asked and you gestured at the screen as Scuttle asked if he’d ever been wrong.
“Yes.” They both said.
“When it’s important?!”
“Debatable.” Bucky said and they watched Sebastian make a plan and put Scuttle to work stalling the wedding after having Flounder tow Ariel, “Okay so the fish is stronger than he looks.”
“Apparently.” Steve said and ate some popcorn, “I wanna see what Scuttle does.”
“Mh.” Bucky nodded as he ate some of his own snack and they watched him squawk and gather the other wildlife, “This’ll be good.”
They then watched as Ursula’s human form kicked the dog Max, scowling. Bucky scowled intensely at the sight of Eric just standing there stock still, responding “I do.” Like a robot. At least until the animals attacked.
Then the most satisfied smirk appeared on his face. Steve chuckled as he looked at Bucky and watched the ensuing chaotic fight, including Max pausing before biting down hard on the “bride’s” butt.
“Good dog.” He said and both frowned when the shell amulet broke until realizing it was a good thing, breaking the mind control on Eric, but both of them frowned as they talked, “Shut up and kiss already!”
Ursula cackled as the sun set and you had to physically sit on Bucky to stop him from leaping at the screen when the witch grabbed Ariel and gloated. Steve launched out of the couch and grabbed Alpine in mid-leap the screen, having let out an affronted growl at it.
“No!” he told her, landing on the floor before holding her as he got up, “It’s just a movie.”
“Movie!” You reminded Bucky as he scowled and pointed his finger at the screen.
“S’not fair! S-she violated the contract! She interfered!” he protested and you nodded as he watched Triton bargain with Ursula to save his daughter.
“I know, Buck, but it’s gonna be okay.” Steve said while comforting the cat.
“That’s not how royal succession works!” Bucky scowled and Steve nodded.
“I know, but movie. Movie.” You said and pointed as Eric stopped Ursula from hurting Ariel, “See, they’re gonna fight back. It’s gonna be a battle, but it’s gonna be okay.”
He took a deep breath but nodded and smirked when Ursula zapped her own eels, “Good. Wait…what’s she doin’?”
“Well…she’s made herself a bigger target.” Steve said and Bucky nodded, watching Ursula brag about her power and bring up the sunken ship.
“Yeah, a very big target for a very big spear.” He said and nodded when Eric rammed the boat straight through Ursula, “Good.”
Steve nodded as well but didn’t question how Eric got to the shore so fast, he was busy petting Alpine, calming her from seeking revenge on the tv for upsetting Bucky, “Yeah. See, princess? The bad lady’s gone. All gone.”
“This better have a happy endin’ or I swear…” Bucky grumbled and you nodded while pointing at the screen as Ursula’s garden captives were transformed back to normal, including Triton.
They watched Triton show remorse, looking at Sebastian when he said kids needed to be free. They both shook their heads at that before smiling when Triton expressed how much he was going to miss his daughter before turning her into a human. Both were emotional as the music picked up and transitioned to the two getting married after kissing.
They then laughed when Louis the Chef returned to chase Sebastian only for the crab to win once again by cutting a rope. They then both watched Triton embrace his daughter before letting her go be with her new husband, sailing off into the rainbow together.
The credit music started playing after the last kiss, you hesitated for a moment, “So…maybe…maybe you’re not ready for Disney movies just yet. That…uh…that had a strong reaction…”
“Ursula is pure evil and shoulda been chopped, fried, and put in some Japanese sushi dish you feed to prisoners.” Bucky said with a scowl and Steve nodded.
“Music was good though.” He said and Bucky nodded, relaxing a bit as the music played again.
“Yeah. Scuttle was funny.” He added and Steve nodded.
“Animation was gorgeous.” He said and Bucky nodded.
“Oh yeah. Absolutely. All of the animation was great. Different from Snow White but still Disney and great.”
“What are the sequels like?” Steve asked and you shook your head.
“We’re not watching the sequels right now. You two need a break.”
1 Week Later
“Bucky…what the hell did you order?” you asked as you set the box down on the table that had just been delivered.
Steve set his coffee cup down to stare at the large box and nodded, “Yeah…Buck…what is that?”
“I ordered some cat toys for Alpine.” He answered and opened the box with one of his knives and you started shaking your head when you saw what it all was.
“Really, Bucky?” you asked and he smiled and tossed the Ursula shaped kicker toy on the floor that Alpine promptly launched herself at to punish followed by two jingling Flotsam and Jetsam toys she smacked repeatedly with her paw.
“Good girl.” Bucky said with a smile and sipped his coffee.

A/N: I couldn't help the comparison between Bucky and Eric and Steve and Ariel. I mean...I only have so much restraint. As for Bucky's reaction, well...he feels strongly about things. Time to decide the next one!
I hope you enjoyed it! Please feel free to let me know! I appreciate all likes, I do because it lets me know you like it, but if you really like it reblog it and if you really really like it comment and tell me, write some tags, send an unhinged gif. It's all accepted and I'm not picky, just let me know.
That is all.

Chapter 5 || Chapter 7
Tumblr media
The night was filled with people from all backgrounds, business owners, CFOs, CEOs, COOs, jewelry heiresses, stock brokers, even those who dabbled in international trade and shipments of luxury goods were in the room. Every person with any sense of power on the money side of Gotham was present tonight. You were wearing a gorgeous golden dress with fabric that hung around your chest and drooped over your shoulder, covering the gunshot wound that you’d received a week ago. The dress complimented your skin and hugged your figure perfectly. Every curve of your body hugged by the fabric, showing off your form in a delicate yet seductive and classy way. You had your necklace under the wrap around neckline, but wore the matching green earrings adorning and balancing the outfit. It was simple and perfect for the occasion. You had your hair up in a slick back ponytail, the length hanging perfectly, giving you a soft glowy look versus your dark seductive alter ego. You wanted to be seen as the charming, beautiful, supportive partner that worked with Calvi himself.
Your heart was beating in your chest, pounding like a wild animal trying to escape from its cage. After weeks of preparations, the night was finally here. Ambushing and infiltrating Sionis’s business to make him crumble from the inside out. You hadn’t spoken to Red in a few days, his plan perfectly laid and seemed fool proof. One of the calls was ceased communication. It was the only way to ensure the plan would work in the end. You couldn’t be in ties with him since he had his own role to play which he had started before asking for your help. Befriend and gain the trust of Calvi’s business partner, Marcos. A powerhouse in Gotham’s elite. Working in foreign exchange, luxury goods, and security, he was almost as devastating as Calvi himself. Only he was more egotistical and cocky than Calvi was. He didn’t have the same charm or the same sense of formality. He was new money rich, everything spiraling and taking off after he created his security platform, Python.
You finished applying your lipstick, fixing your hair and grabbing your designer clutch off the sink. You needed to play the part of being the daughter of a wealthy businessman, trying to cover your tracks so no one could wonder how easily you had access to Calvi and ended up on his arm this night of the Gala honoring him. Calvi already knew your background as you were able to create a false one that lined up perfectly with the daughter of a businessman who’d disappeared and gone off grid. The family kept it a secret so as to not be caught in a scandal, so you stepped in as the replacement and since you were a beautiful, young woman with interest in luxury goods, everything checked out. No loopholes, no openings.
~~~
It was all selfish. It was personal. It was for your freedom. That’s what you kept telling yourself when you paced in the outskirts of the city, waiting for Red at the secluded location he’d embedded into the file for future meetings.
Could you actually manage to pull something like this off? Was it all a ploy or did he truly believe this could work?
“Y/n”, you turned at the sound of his voice.
“Red”, you breathed, your shoulders tense.
“You came.”, his voice had a hint of humor in it, but serious quickly took over as his body stopped only a foot away from you, his proximity sending you over the edge. He had a deep musk to him, a woodsy scent that filled your nostrils and made your veins flood with a sensation you couldn’t quite place.
“How serious are you?” your voice was a whisper, but the intent was loud. You weren’t here to play games. You needed answers.
“I’m dead serious about this, sweetheart.”, he replied. “I take you overlooked everything.”
“What interest do you have in the Blue Moon of Josephine that you need to steal it from the museum that Black Mask has under his protection?”
“It’s a hefty hit and a hefty payout. I thought you’d be the first to jump all over this.”
“It’s a suicide mission!”, you raised your voice slightly, your eyes slightly widening as you held back your confused frustration.
“It’s your ticket out of here. It’s my ticket to a direct hit at that son of a bitch and getting closer to completing my work.”
Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at him, your eyes glossy with emotion you couldn’t quite place. Was it anger, frustration, false hope, or a sense of trust that you knew you shouldn’t be placing in him in the first place?
“You always seem focused on escaping this shit city, and now I’m giving you the chance and you’re doubting it.”
“I don’t want false hope.”, you clenched your teeth.
“The evidence was all in that drive. You can see for yourself it isn’t false anything.”, he replied as stared at you intently, his focus on you as he waited for your answer. His silence made the air around the both of you fill with tension, there was more to it than he led on. You took a step back, not noticing how his close proximity had affected you. You needed to focus.
“If you’re serious, if you truly believe we can pull this off…” Red noticed how you were overthinking the situation, his voice ringing out again.
“I won’t force you to do something you’re not confident in doing.”
You let yourself sit in the silence, his body still radiating heat and his hand on your chin to meet his eyes. You basked in his presence for a moment, snapping yourself out of the trance and looking at him intently.
“No.”, you breathed. “I’m in.”
~~~
“Ready, my dear?”, Calvi stretched an arm towards you as you wrapped your hands around him and walked elegantly next to him. He was tall, around 6’5, even taller than Red. You were wearing heels so your height would be closer to meet his eye line, but you were still far shorter than the both of them.
“Are we meeting any of your partners tonight?”, you asked softly, your eyes examining his face, his demeanor very relaxed and laid back.
“A few, but only one catches my attention tonight. He has a new development and I want to be the first to have it.”, he mentioned nonchalantly.
“You look stunning tonight. I don’t know how you get more beautiful every time I see you, Vivian”, his breath smelled like mint, his natural scent overwhelming with overpriced cologne. It was almost too much for your senses, giving you a slight headache.
“You clean up nice yourself, Cal. You sure you’re not holding back on me?”, you smiled as your words left in a flirty tone.
The two of you walked through the halls, taking in the cases full of jewelry spanning from rings, necklaces, crowns, bracelets, everything worth tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Everything here was priceless. But you weren’t here for scraps.
You moved around, looking at the well dressed statues that were clothed in beautiful custom gowns that were hand crafted by the best designers in the city. You admired them deeply and loved the complex colors and the reflection of the light making the diamonds, emeralds, rubies, pearls, all the jewels illuminate beautifully.
Calvi followed behind but remained close at your side, allowing you to take your time as you moved through the entrance halls and into the main room, the music and the chatter of people filled the atmosphere. There wasn’t a single inch of the room that didn’t have a person standing in it. Servers, musicians, security, attendees, everyone was here.
It was almost as impressive as the Wayne Galas.
Almost.
It was a grand hall full of beautiful, timeless decorations, the curtains reaching the roof and the chandeliers hanging around the room as the music played in a lively tune that allowed people to have drinks and mingle with one another. The attendance list was full of the rich, powerful people of Gotham, all having their own born right to be here. Many of the names on Red’s drive were old money, generations of wealth passed down through each new member. Others were self-made businessmen and women, they had gone from middle class citizens to the highest ranking in the city, making them more respected by those who kept a watchful eye on them.
Calvi motioned towards the small bar area, walking over with you in hand as he ordered a glass of his favorite whiskey while you ordered your wine. You leaned into Calvi, reeling him in as he placed a hand on your waist, turning towards him as you smiled and lifted a hand to your face, brushing a small piece of hair back. How easy it was to have men wrapped around your finger and at your command.
“Is that Calvi Calbera?”, you turned to be met with the very man you were anticipating the whole night. Marcos Maroni. The unknown son of Sal Maroni. Except here, no one knew he was a Maroni. He did well hiding his background from everyone in this scene. Only you and Red knew who he was, who he really was.
“Marcos Morona”, Calvi walked up to him, shaking his hand and patting him on the back, laughing as they greeted each other.
“Excuse me, forgive my rudeness, but who is this lovely lady?”, Marcos turned to you, his charming smile hiding the intrigue in his eyes not missing the way they darkened as they skimmed your body quickly. You would’ve missed it if you weren’t so good at reading men and their mannerisms. You stood from your seat, stretching your hand out towards him as he took your delicate hand in his broad, rough one. “Vivian Lancaster”, you said softly, batting your eyelashes at him, letting him notice your obvious observation of his movements. It would inflate his ego, just like every other man in Gotham who took a liking to you. You knew you were beautiful, you knew men gravitated towards you. It made your line of work easy, especially when it came to getting intel you needed from these men. Just like Calvi.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.”, he smirked at you before he kissed your hand and turned back to Calvi. “I heard you were looking for me. Wanting to take a look at my new software?”
Calvi let out a chuckle, taking a sip of his whiskey before setting it back on the bar. “I heard it’s better than Python. I want to see it and be the first to bid on getting the system for my trades.”
“You flatter me, Calvi. It is a good system, I worked with a programmer who is beyond my time and my years. I didn’t realize Bludhaven produced such intelligent people who worked in system informatics and security programming.”
“You can never underestimate people. Especially when you came from the same background”, Calvi mentioned calmly. The false life Marcos had made for himself was filled with the lie that he was completely self-made. A nobody that came from a small town in New Jersey and grew his skills and his company from the ground up. Yeah, right.
“That’s why we have to take risks when it comes to new minds.”, Marcos rambled for a few more moments, a part of you anxious of when your partner would show up. He hadn’t made his appearance yet, you wondered if he was actually planning on coming or if all of this was just to get you away from him for another night. He had been cutting communication off for the past week so it would make sense if that was his reasoning.
“There you are.”, you looked up from your glass, you had zoned out and didn’t realize until Marcos snapped you back to their conversation. “Calvi, Vivian. I want to introduce you to one of my partners. His intelligence and deduction skills are far beyond anything I could ever imagine trying to find outside of Gotham.”
You looked behind Marcos, your heart stopped in your chest. Out of everything you expected tonight, from the risk of getting caught to the possibility of leaving empty handed, you could have never expected this.
“Calvi, Vivian. This is Jason Todd. My partner in building my new security software and convincing me to take a risk on my programmer from Bludhaven. Not to mention the son of our beloved Bruce Wayne.”
Your lips parted from the shock. You were left speechless. He had dark hair that was slicked back neatly, exposing his face and making his jaw appear more sharp and defined than it already was. He was wearing a dark suit and a dark burgundy tie that made it obvious who he was to you. Only to you. His eyes were a deep, dark green that pulled you into a trance. His lips pulled into a charming smile, his eyes focused on your appearance as you noticed that same emotion in his eyes that you knew was in your own. Your face remained neutral, but you knew your eyes gave you away the second he looked at you. He was devastating, handsome, his eyes gentle and full of emotion as they took you in, your heart pounding in your chest while trying to remain calm.
You felt time stop, everything around you had disappeared and the two of you stared at each other for what felt like an eternity. His eyes bore into yours, holding an unwavering amount of attention, skimming down your frame and drinking in every inch of your body. He dressed in a suit that fit him perfectly, made him look muscular, toned, and perfect. You’d wondered what he’d look like under it all, what it would feel like against yours, the heat rising in your body as the darkness in his eyes swirled into something more. Something you couldn’t quite place. You noticed the way his hand flexed slightly but quickly relaxed. You held his gaze for what seemed like forever until his smooth, clear voice pulled you out of your trance.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Jason Todd”, he stretched out his hand, letting him take yours and kissing the back of it. “What a lovely woman you have with you tonight Calvi.” Jason spoke, never taking his gaze off of you. You hadn’t broken eye contact since he waltzed in.
“Vivian Lancaster. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”, you said, taking your hand back after noticing how he rubbed the back of your hand with his thumb.
You felt your skin ignite on fire, his green eyes holding you gaze as a small smile tugged at his lips.
“She is beautiful. We’ve been working together for some time. Who knows what the future holds for us, right my dear?”, Calvi spoke as he looked at you, your eyes still under siege by Jason’s green ones. How did you go this long, never seeing his face, his eyes… he..
“Right.”, you snapped out of Jason’s stare when Calvi wrapped an arm around your waist, almost like staking his claim. You looked at his face, no emotion showing in his eyes and his jaw was relaxed. So why was he being weird?
“Calvi, let’s catch up in the meeting room before they start the auction. I’m sure Jason can keep Vivian company for a short while.”, Marcos said as he and Calvi said another snide joke under their breath and walked away.
You watched as they left before meeting Jason’s gaze again, your heart absolutely betraying you in your chest. He looked at the ground, his smile spreading across his face as he met your gaze again. He cocked his head, pointing towards the balcony that was on the other side of the room and you followed him outside, stepping into the fresh, cool air leaving your skin feeling relaxed as the soft breeze hit your warm skin.
“You clean up nice”, you said, trying to keep yourself from stuttering. You needed to focus on why you were here, not on how devastating the man in front of you looked.
“I’d say the same to you. This dress really suits you.”, his voice was deep, suave, flirtatious, and it drove you absolutely insane. This was the first time you were seeing him like this, the first time you were on mutual grounds and he had this hold over you that you couldn’t shake.
“So, Jason Todd.”, you said as you looked at him, that charming smirk playing at his lips again. “Son of Bruce Wayne, I thought this was supposed to keep a low profile.”,
“It’s my real name.”, your eyebrows raised slightly, your head turning to look at him as he looked down at the garden, one hand on the railing.
“Your real name? Seems believable enough.”
“It is. Jason Peter Todd.”, he looked at you, meeting your gaze again.
“Do you really want me to take that seriously? Do you really think I am that gullible?”
“I know you’re not.”, he spoke again. “And, I really am the son of Bruce Wayne.”
You stared at him. The silence growing and the tension slowly getting thicker. You couldn’t believe him. He was pulling a prank on you. There’s no way he’s…
“Why do I feel like you’re lying to me?” “When have I ever lied to you?”, he was right. Over the course of the past few months, he never lied about anything he was doing. He wouldn’t tell you complete thoughts, sometimes keep small tidbits of information from you, but lying? He never did that.
“You’re Bruce Wayne’s son?”, you asked again, almost as if asking for confirmation of the truth once again.
“Yes.”, at this point, he was full on facing you, his hands in his pockets as he stood tall over you. His eyes bore into your soul, almost like he was breaking apart every one of your walls and getting under your skin, making you burn in your dress.
“Does he know… that you..”
“No. He doesn’t even know I’m back in Gotham.”, he answered.
Back in Gotham? Does that mean he left at one point? Where did he go? How long was he gone? Why did he leave?
“I see.”, you were at a loss for words. You felt like there was something about his background that just… left you wrecked. Why did you feel betrayed? Because he was a rich kid with a father who had all to Gotham in the palm of his hand? Did you feel deceived, did you believe he was just another vigilante fighting to make ends meet and he had no other choice but to enter this life like you had? Or was he just rebelling against his father?
You felt an ember of anger growing in your chest. You couldn’t look at him, couldn’t stand next to him. You just felt like you received the worst confession in your life. Jason Todd, son of Bruce Wayne, was the one trying to take out Black Mask’s business to take a shot at his money and make him miserable. A rich pretty boy was trying to take out one of Gotham’s most ruthless mob bosses in the city. He could get away with killing all those people because Bruce Wayne would convince the world it wasn’t his son, there was no proof either. He wasn’t known as Jason Todd, no one knew it was him. He was just Red Hood. The annoyance grew in your chest as you remained silent and lost in thought.
Did you even have the right to get mad at him? He’d helped you so many times, could’ve killed you throughout the past few months. He hadn’t shown anyone else within the city any form of sympathy or second guessed killing them, so why you? More importantly, why were you so bothered by the truth of who he was?
He owed you nothing.
You forced yourself back to the reality of the situation: get the job done.
“We can head back to my apartment once we’re done, just to get out of sight from the guards around here.”, you murmured, your eyes scanning the room in practiced scrutiny. Your focus on examining each attendee before arriving was paying off, but there were still internal updates that could have happened in the span of the past three days leading up to the Gala. Your eyes turned back towards Jason, his eyes looked at you in a soft glance, his focus on your words and actions as you scanned the room. He hummed lightly before creating distance between the two of you, your slicked hair showing off your features in a delicate manner that left him soaking in the sight for a second longer before turning away.
“If the blueprints are accurate and they didn’t move any of the jewels around, they should be located by the main entrance where the guests came in and every one can see them.”, his response was practical, focusing perfectly on the very reason both of you were here tonight.
Your mind raced through all the details, recalling every base of your plan down to the nitty gritty. You had calculated everything, trying to remember the blueprints exactly. Your memory was borderline photographic when it came to jobs like these. “We can leave at different times before the speeches and auction. We hack into the security system and set the cameras on loop, reprogram the sensors on the cases but we’ll only have around 10 or 15 minutes to get what we need and get out before the sensors turn back on.”
“What if we move the cameras into a blind spot that's only a few inches to the left of the main hallway?"
Your surprise was evident. "How do you know there’s a blind spot?"
"Hacking into the camera system a week ago helped a lot. I took it upon myself to cover the bases for a plan B in case we needed it."
You couldn't deny his resourcefulness, but the revelation of his background left you on edge. His clear, confident voice contrasted with the dissonance you felt in your bones. Your perception of him shifted, your judgment clouded by this deal with him and the payout at the end of this suicide mission.
“Let’s finish what we came here for.”, his deep voice rang out. Deep, smooth, not hidden behind distortion. He was clear, articulate, and it irritated you knowing his background. It’s like your entire opinion of him just… shifted. You moved around him, slipping back into the main room and finding your way through the hallways, leaving him alone while you carried out your part of the plan.
Back in the main room, Jason felt a tug in his gut, watching you with his deep green eyes, never leaving your form as you walked through the crowded room. He swirled his drink before throwing back the amber liquid, the burn offering him a momentary distraction from the irritation growing in the pit of his stomach. He watched as a group of men swept their gazes towards you, his hand tightening around the glass as he buried the annoyance under focus. If there was one thing he despised more than Galas, it was the people. He hated the social scene more than anything, everyone in this room included with the exception of you.
He’d noticed how quickly your body language changed at the mention of who he was, it left him with a strange sensation wondering if you’d really gotten upset at his identity. Your sudden change in attitude made him question if his true self would change your perception of him, if it would change your alliance and the results of the job. His jaw clenched as he snapped back to focus. Regardless of how much he wanted to contemplate his actions or breakdown your reaction, he had a job to do.
He slowly moved through the room, his body tall in confidence as he noticed some of the women staring at him, blushing as they whispered between one another. He couldn’t help but feel strange, he’d always been hidden in his brother's shadow, women never particularly liked him but now that he’s older he can’t help but notice how the attention has changed. It was a complete contrast to his past, used to be overlooked and now everyone noticed him. He couldn't care less about it though, he didn’t care about anything here except for a particular woman who just walked out on him.
He exited into the hall, walking past several people and groups of businessmen, giving them a slight nod in greeting before continuing through the corridors. He had turned down a particular hall, one he remembered from his intel and the blueprints he’d downloaded for this very night. It was the main server room, he could get to any of the cameras and completely shut them down to make the night easier on both of you. He couldn’t plant the chips there yet, he needed to touch base with you first.
He turned into the main hall, scanning through different bodies of people until he saw you in front of a painting in all your glory. He hadn’t admitted it out loud but the pang in his chest at how you were dressed tonight left him on edge.
“Van Gogh.”, he spoke out as he walked up beside you.
“Yeah..”, you replied softly, your attention briefly on the painting before looking down in contemplation.
After you’d left the main room, you walked through the halls with other groups and couples, seemingly talking harmlessly but then you took in every piece of information and camera angle to the best of your ability. You stopped to admire one piece in particular, a kick to the gut but when Jason placed a hand on the small of your back, you looked at him. To anyone else the gesture would have been discreet and simple, but between the two of you it carried weight - a silent form of comfort. All you couldn’t place if it was due to his reveal, or just the stress of tonight, but you knew he’d intended the subtle gesture as a comforting touch.
He turned to look at you, his eyes softening before flicking down to your parted lips, your lipstick beautifully painted as he took into account every detail of your presence. His jaw clenched before he removed his hand, turning back to the wall and you turned your head, not letting the heat show on your face due to his touch.
“It’s a beautiful painting.”, you looked up at him, turning and continuing down the hall. Jason had lingered behind a moment longer, his chest filling with a rush of emotion before following behind you. Now wasn’t the time to dig up hidden meanings and make sense of them.
Not now.
There was only half an hour before the auction started off, even less time than that before speeches and dinner started. You and Jason needed to be quick, needed to plant the chips, hack into the security system, and return before anyone caught on to your antics. You nodded at him, silently giving him an unspoken confirmation to complete your individual tasks before rendezvousing back to the main hall.
You had carefully taken in every inch of the building, watching and taking note of everything that came into proximity. You had to get to the server room and set up the security system to a no detectable loop, ensuring the system couldn’t be traced back to anyone just long enough to get what you needed and leave. You navigated the halls in focus, quickly scanning through while keeping complete composure and even nodding at a few people who walked past you to lighten suspicion.
You quickly hurried through the hallways until you backtracked, heading down a hallway that was more dim than the rest and noticing the nameplate next to the door. You stood a few feet away to stay out of sight of the camera, trying to have as little mess to clean up as possible as you examined the door silently. You played through every possibility in your head within seconds, trying to find the best route of action to move forward with.
You were able to find an opening just a few inches from a camera, a minute blind spot but it was all you needed to succeed. You had been keeping tabs on the security system long enough to see the actual entrance to the security room was blocked off. It gave you the perfect in to pick the lock, place the chip, set pre recorded footage, and delete any footage that showed your and Jason's entrance into the event and anything that could put you as suspects. You needed 10 minutes to pull the whole thing off.
You knelt down to the handle, inserting the pin you can tucked into your hair, and began to work on the lock. It was a simple thing even for being placed in an event like this. After a few seconds, the subtle clicks gave away the opening of the lock, turning the handle and pushing the door open.
It was empty.
That eliminated one concern you had. If someone was in here you’d have to get your hands dirty.
You closed the door, walked over to the desk and pulled the chair back to sit in it. You overlooked everything quickly, taking in every angle of the event being monitored in high definition. You could see the main room, the hallways, the club rooms, the library, the fountain where the art and jewels were displayed, even see the entrance to the gala as well as the outside cameras. Everything was here all in 30 tiny screens. You smirked at yourself.
They really knew how to cover bases when they needed to. No doubt they did an in depth review of every inch of the location to ensure tighter security.
You quickly typed in a virus code, connecting your chip to the server and watching the file download. You glanced at the camera that pointed into the hall next to the room you were in. Still empty. A good sign but it also left you on edge. You needed to hurry.
You watched the file download, turning green in completion as you quickly added it to the server and set the programming to start with the looped footage in 15 minutes. You needed to hurry and program your chip to delete footage from the past hour, coding it into the system as fast as possible.
You froze at the sound of the handle of the door turning, your heart pounding in your chest as you quickly finished the code. At least if you were caught they wouldn’t be able to trace this back to you. You removed your chip and shoved it into the inside of your dress, replacing the pin into your hair as you moved away from the computers.
The turning of the handle made you freeze, not wanting to take out the gun you had strapped to your thigh. You pressed your back against the wall, holding your breath as the door opened with a soft creaking before watching someone walk inside. A tall muscular figure walked into the room, probably a guard, you quickly rushed him from behind, feeling the turn of his body as the both of you slammed on the ground.
“If you wanted to get on top of me, all you had to do was ask, sweetheart.”, your eyes snapped up to him, your body completely flush with his as his hands laid perfectly on your curves. You felt a heat rise into your face, the flexing of his fingers on your waist making you burn hotter.
You pushed yourself off of him, fixing your dress and glaring at him. “You’re insufferable.”, you muttered as he smirked at you.
“I planted my chips. We have 15 minutes.”, he rolled his eyes, ignoring your momentary frustration. “We need to move.”
He gestured for you to follow as both of you slipped into the hall and navigated through the ornate corridors of the building, blending seamlessly among the guests. You couldn't deny the rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins; working with Jason was like walking on a knife's edge—exciting, unpredictable, and dangerous.
You both moved through the corridor, trying to make your way back to the main room in time to make your rounds before moving into the final stages of your plan. You’d haven't thought about Marcos and Calvi, knowing they’d probably be preoccupied in the sitting room doing their usual sketchy business. You didn’t see them on the cameras during your search earlier, but yet again, the probability of a secret room with no surveillance wasn’t too far off from what would be considered a possibility. Besides, it was better if Calvi stayed out of the way, especially when it would make things far more exhausting having to manage him and this operation.
You tried to focus, your head swirling with a hundred different thoughts but if you lost even a minute detail, the whole operation would go to shit. Jason seemed a lot more focused, maybe the years of practice or just being gifted with that skill. Either way, it made him a good partner in all things criminal, even if you wouldn’t admit it out loud.
Slipping back to the main room, everyone seemed to be within the grand walls of the ballroom, either socializing or in the middle of the open floor. You and Jason both slipped through the crowd, trying to make it back where Calvi and Marcos had left you before the harmonizing of orchestra instruments caused you to come to a sudden halt.
Shit.
You could not get caught in this right now, it would set your entire plan back. You grit your teeth before turning to find confirmation in Jason to get out of this situation but your irritation grew when you looked over at him. You watched him extend a hand towards you, your eyes widened slightly in shock as you hesitated to touch his palm.
He could not be serious right now.
His eyes urged you forward, showing the seriousness in reminding you of the role you had to play tonight despite the reminders it gave you of your past. You couldn’t raise suspicion.
You slowly grabbed his hand, letting him lead you onto the dance floor as the orchestra played a simple waltz. You felt him get into perfect position, your body moving in sync with his. It felt like he was almost trained to attend events like these, he truly did commit to the part but then again he was the son of Bruce Wayne. You were sure he had more experience with Galas than you did.
You recalled the moments you spent living with The Family, forced into a position of learning how to waltz and dance in order to better fit into the mold of their image. You didn’t mind it too much but you found it redundant, tiresome, tedious.
Jason’s body moved in sync with the orchestra music, his movement smooth and in pace. You could barely keep up with him as he twirled you around before bringing you back in, your chests meeting each other as you sucked in a silent breath. You felt his breath slightly on your lips, your eyes meeting his as your faces hovered only inches from each other. You held his gaze as you saw an underlying burning in his eyes, they were dark and hazy almost like he was a man starved. You breathed, your lips parting as your eyes flickered down, focused on everything that had to do with him and nothing with the reason why you were here.
You felt paused in time, like only you and him existed in this moment. Everything faded into nothing as the orchestra continued to play the waltz as it blurred into the background. You watched as his head tilted a millimeter, barely but enough to notice at the proximity you were at. His eyes flicked to your lips for a split second only to meet your eyes again. His body heat burned your skin, your pulse skyrocketing into a pounding sensation and slightly praying he couldn’t feel or hear it. His face was too close, his lips just a breath away from touching yours, everything in him burning at the proximity.
The clapping from tonight's attendees broke you out of your trance, forcing you out of the moment you shared with Jason and snapping you into reality. You blinked, stepping back as he removed his body from yours only to give the traditional bow and walk away. You watched as he headed to the bar, your eyes looking around at everyone going back to their conversations and ignoring the people on the dance floor.
What was that?
You felt a pang of emotion in your chest, your irritation brewing as you walked over to the bar where you watched him order another drink and down it in one go. You stood next to him, your heels helping you meet his eyeline as you tugged his arm back and forcing the green eyed man to look at you.
“What was that?”, you whispered in a sharp tone, only loud enough for him to hear you.
His hooded eyes looked at yours, he looked exhausted or maybe just drunk but you couldn’t bring yourself to care at that moment. Whatever was going on with him internally he needed to figure out outside of this mission before he ruined everything. Your eyes narrowed at him as a half-assed smirk appeared on his lips.
“I’m keeping appearances, wasn’t that the plan?”, he said lazily, his demeanor completely changing. This wasn’t his usual act, so why was he putting it on?
“You’re going to blow our cover.”, your spit through clenched teeth. “You’re going to ruin everything.”
“I think we both know that’s not the reason you’re upset, sweetheart.”, he retaliated.
“That wasn’t keeping appearances, Red!”, you whisper yelled at him, the burning in your eyes growing stronger as he stood upright.
“Maybe not.”, he shrugged, his voice carrying a hint of something you couldn’t quite place. His eyes flickered with an unreadable emotion.
You took a step closer, your voice a low murmur laden with urgency and frustration. "We have a job to do. This isn't about personal feelings or playing games."
“Yes, Ma’am”, he did a mocking salute before looking over your shoulder. “Let’s just get this over with.”
Why did he become an asshole all of a sudden? You were about to spit something back at him before you felt a hand on your waist.
“Vivian, Jason. Apologies for being gone so long, I hope the two of you were able to keep each other company?”, Calvi looked at you with deep eyes, his smile forced but he didn’t need to know you could tell.
“Everything has been pretty calm here. I think they may start the dinner soon.”, you smiled at him as you felt the dark stare coming from Jason.
“Then, let’s get to our tables shall we? Jason, I believe you and Marcos are with us tonight.”
“Let’s find our seats then.”, he pulled out a fake charming smile as he followed behind the both of you. The atmosphere crackled with unspoken tension, the weight of your shared moment just a few minutes ago hung between the two of you. You couldn’t deny whatever pull Jason had on you, but you needed to shove the thoughts away. Outside of this job, he was still a name on your list of targets.
Calvi pulled out your seat once you’d reached the other room where the dinner would proceed. Several other guests were already sitting at their tables as they surrounded the main stage, waiting for the speaker to come up for the night and proceed into the auction. Your heart pounded in your chest as you looked at the clock on the wall. You had less than five minutes to find an opening or you would lose your only advantage.
“Calvi, I need to step out for a moment. I'm just going to head to the washroom”, you asked trying to sound as calm as possible.
“I'll accompany you, I have a call I need to make.”, Jason’s voice rang out, Calvi nodding slightly as he looked towards Jason. “I can walk with you."
“Thank you, Jason.”, you forced. “I’ll be back before they even start with the first round of appetizers and the opening speech.”, you placed a soft kiss on Calvi’s cheek, trying to keep up the appearance of his adorned partner.
You followed behind Jason closely, his shoulders tense as he parted in the opposite direction once you exited the dining hall, leaving as you went into the women's restroom. You pushed the door open, opening the final stall and locking it behind you. You quickly removed the hidden compartment behind the wall. To anyone else it looked like the normal wall in the restroom, but you had managed to sneak your undercover clothing into the empty space behind it. You quickly removed your dress, pulling it off gently as you changed into the simple kitchen staff clothing. Black pants, black button up, non slip shoes and tying your hair into a bun. You had opted for makeup that was easy to put on and take off, quickly taking off parts of the eye shadow before letting yourself look more natural. The same with your hair as it only remained in a slicked back ponytail, making it easy to twist into a bun. You quickly put on the tie and the hat you had that the kitchen staff wore in order to hide your face.
You quickly zipped your dress into a seal proof bag and shoved it into the wall along with your heels, fixing it before looking down at your watch. You had less than 2 minutes before you needed to look for the diamond, 8 minutes to find the case and retrieve it, all while keeping a low profile.
You pushed through the door of the restroom and walked confidently through the halls, your eyes taking in the different cases being showcased around you with all the different jewels. Some of them remained in cases, but according to your plan book, it would be on display tonight for the auction.
You paced through the halls, seeing dressed in all black Jason walk up next to you, his attire matching the security guards uniform as his words dropped into your ears. “We need to move quickly.”, he breathed as his eyes glanced over at the other servers moving through the halls carrying trays.
You hummed in agreement, your focus sharp as you fell into step with him before breaking apart once again. He went towards the east wing and you to the west, both wings holding different jewels but only one holding the one you needed.
45 seconds until the outage.
You moved through the halls quickly. Your eyes skimming every jewel showcased on the mannequins that were also dressed in beautiful gowns and wore other expensive jewels.
30 seconds.
Jason paced the east wing, his eyes taking in every case, keeping a close watch on the cameras and making himself look as normal as possible. Being dressed in security clothing and observing the rooms would cease suspicion. It was the perfect cover.
15 seconds.
You felt your heart pound as you looked at the last of the people head into the dining hall.
10 seconds.
Jason felt a tug in his gut as he heard the announcer start speaking in the other room, signaling his opening in a few seconds.
5 seconds.
You could hear the announcer in the other room, then complete silence before you heard the scream of one of the guests. The power had gone completely out and you watched the camera intently as the red light signaling its recording flickered off. You felt yourself go into overdrive, your body quickly searching through the mannequins as your watch gave you the alarm that you only had 8 minutes before the cameras and the security locks on the cases turned back on.
Adrenaline surged through you as the darkness acted as your cover, the loss of power would only give you so much time. You knew each second counted, quickly moving as you scanned each mannequin with precision, your senses heightened due to the lack of light. The echo of distant voices carried down the hall, the subtle sound of rushed footsteps heightening your awareness. Your heart pounded in your chest every time there was a noise down the hall, but you couldn’t let your anxiety get to you if you were going to pull this off. You needed to focus on this and only this. You only hoped that if you couldn’t find the diamond here, Jason had it already.
Time blurred as you felt the pressure slowly start to build as you felt the reality sink in. Where was it?!
You looked at your watch, only having 4 minutes to retrieve what you needed, get back to the restroom and change, find Jason, and return to the dining hall before security inevitably took everyone to evacuate the building. The adrenaline and pounding of your heart only increased as you watched the time go down, Jason still not having sent the signal to your receiver that he had found it on his end.
In the east wing, Jason felt himself struggling to keep his composure. He knew you only had mere minutes before the both of you would have to return empty handed or with the diamond in hand. He contemplated just taking a different diamond out of its place, but none of them would hold the same weight as Josephine would towards making a direct hit at Black Mask. Jason looked at his watch, not having received a signal from you yet. Would all of this have been for nothing?
His watch told him he only had 2 minutes left. His jaw clenched, the plan was to be back in the main room by the time 1 minute hit, he had to leave and get changed now if he was going to erase suspicion.
Dammit.
He turned, rushing back to the restroom and quickly changing, shoving the clothes back into the hidden compartment behind the wall as he fixed his suit and swept his hair back in his neat, yet messy style he had when he had arrived at the event for the night. He walked out of the restroom, fixing his cuffs and trying to wipe the sweat from his forehead as he navigated carefully back into the main room, the sound of chatter and mild chaos breaking out as the announcer called for everyone to follow the guards leading them to exit the building.
The hum of electricity signaled the return of power, followed by the faint buzz of security systems coming back online. Jason’s eyes moved through the crowd as he blended in, trying to find any sign of you within the sea of bodies. Everyone walked around him, the security yelling before Jason felt a hand grab him.
“Jason!”, Marcos’ voice rang out. “C’mon. We have to go.”
“What happened?”, his voice deep in confusion although he wasn’t naïve to the situation.
“Security breach. They’re evacuating everyone.”, Marcos said, annoyed as Jason followed next to him, his eyes still skimming through the crowd.
Where were you?
“They don’t want to be at risk for a possible hit. Apparently there have been too many raids around the city targeting the luxury businesses in Upper Gotham.”, Marcos continued.
Jason really couldn’t care at the moment, but he followed behind everyone as they made their way down the stairs and through the security checkpoint. The security were patting down each person, ensuring they didn’t carry anything from the inside out. It made Jason’s heart pump as he watched Marcos get patted down, him following closely behind as he continued to skim through the attendees getting checked by the line of guards.
The guard rushed him forward after being checked, fixing his cuffs Jason looked over at Marcos as he called for his car. “Do you need a ride?”, Marcos asked silently.
“No. I have my own car, thanks though.”, Why was he on edge? He was sure you’d gotten out, maybe you were already back at the rendezvous point. You both agreed to meet there in case anything fell through. His jaw tightened as he grew deeper in thought, waving mindlessly as Marcos left in his car and he walked through the streets until he reached his hidden motorcycle in the back alleys of the city.
He placed the black helmet over his head, kicking up the motorcycle stand as he revved the engine to life, the screeching of tires sounding out as he drove through the city pushing his top speed. His unease gnawed at him as his mind raced through each second he spent on the road. He forced himself to remember you were smart, resourceful, and were probably the best to get out of a tough situation. Yet, the weight of uncertainty hung around him like a 500 pound weight.
His anticipation made him tighten his grip on the handles as he sped through the city streets, weaving through traffic with his timely precision he’d honed throughout the years. The wind enveloped him in a blanket, doing little to ease the anxiety growing in his bones. Every turn, every stoplight, it all heightened his sense of urgency. He needed to be sure you made it back safe, that you were in your apartment and didn’t get caught.
As he pulled into the neighborhood, his focus intensified. He chose the familiar route he’d taken hundreds of times before, trying to find the fastest way to your apartment. He kicked down the stand on his bike as he left it in the alley, rushing up the stairs to your top floor apartment, his heart pumping faster no thanks to the stairs and the rush making him not even think about using the elevator. Each step, each floor, each second made his heart beat inside of him, he felt his anxiety creeping into his veins.
He jumped the last few steps, using his long legs to hurry up the stairs two steps at a time as he finally reached the floor you lived on. He knocked with a rush, the seconds elongating into excruciating seconds as he paced. He knocked again, the sound echoing through the night, his pulse pounding in his ears as he waited.
Did Calvi take her back to his estate?
Did she get caught looking for the diamond?
Did she get lost?
Just as he was about to turn and knock again, the door swung open, there you stood in your golden dress, your hair done as perfectly as it was when you arrived for the event tonight and your makeup still flawless. Your eyes were wide as you stared at him, the silence hanging in the air as he stared at you with shock in his eyes,
Relief flooded through him, overwhelming any lingering anxiety. "Y/n," he breathed, his voice rough with emotion.
“Jason.”, you breathed as you watched his eyes flicker into a calmness, almost like relief. “You didn’t use the window.” you said amused.
Jason ran a hand through his hair as he let out an airy laugh. “Figured this was more suitable for the occasion.”
You moved to the side, letting him enter the apartment as you closed the door behind you and locking it silently. You felt your heart calm from the anxiety you felt at not being able to find him during the final moments of the Gala. You had gotten lost and when Calvi found you, he rushed you out the exit and brought you home in his private car. When you arrived the only thing you worried about was if Jason was able to remember your plan to meet back at your apartment if anything had gone wrong, hoping he’d eventually show.
“I couldn’t find you after the power came back on.”, he muttered as he leaned on the kitchen table. “I didn’t find it.”
You met his gaze, letting the silence hover between the both of you as you let out a small laugh. Jason looked at you with confused eyes, his lips twitching as you laughed even harder. Were you laughing because the entire mission was a failure? Did you also fail in retrieving the diamond?
He watched you intently as you lifted the fabric to your dress, his hand twitching as it gripped the table. You showed off the part of your leg that held your gun, a small pouch attached to it. You carefully detached the small bag, your leg still on full display as Jason’s eyes lingered on your body, a flicker of lust burning inside of him as he forced himself to focus.
He watched as you opened the small velvet bag slowly, placing the 12 carat diamond ring on a silk cloth on the counter. The deep blue color radiating a kind of beauty you couldn’t recreate in a lab, it was definitely one of a kind. You walked over to the small cabinet you had against the wall, taking out a kit used by high end jewelers to decipher the worth and validity of diamonds like this one. He watched you intently, wondering why you could pull out a diamond loupe unless you suspected it was fake.
Though, he knew it was a good idea to do so.
He watched as you held the diamond carefully, examining it in the light and under the loupe to look at every detail and intricate curve within the jewel. You tried to work carefully, using your knowledge to properly decipher the validity of the diamond or if everything tonight had been for nothing. Your hands moved gently as you used the different tools in your kit to check every aspect of the diamond to leave no doubt that it was real.
The air between the two of you crackled with anticipation, the weight of your accomplishment hanging heavy in the room. Jason’s gaze flickered to you briefly, a smile hanging on his lips as he stood impressed by your resourcefulness and grace under pressure.
It was a 50/50 chance that the diamond was actually real, especially since it wasn’t uncommon for high profile events to use fakes in order to not take the risk of something getting stolen, the insurance would surely cost them a fortune.
$48.6 million was a lot of money.
You left him on edge, wondering why your silence had prolonged as he watched you.
It had been 15 minutes.
Was it a fake?
You pulled back, your shoulders slumping as you placed the diamond gently on the silk rag, a shuddered breath leaving your lips. He stood upright, his heart pounding at your body language. You slowly turned your head, meeting his gaze.
"Congratulations, Jason," you praised softly, your words carrying a mix of admiration and pride. "You're officially a millionaire.”. You pushed your baby hairs back, trying to let yourself calm down from the high as you turned towards him. “Oh my god, Jas-”
Jason's response was immediate and primal. In one swift motion, he closed the distance between you, pressing your back against the kitchen counter. His hand slid possessively around the back of your neck, fingers tangling in your hair as he slammed his lips on yours in a passionate kiss. His other arm wrapped firmly around your waist, pulling you flush against him, your body freezing at the sudden contact. Your heart pounded in your chest, your head spinning as he moved his lips against yours in a powerful and hungry way. His hold tightened as you moved your lips against his, breathing in his natural musk.
His hold on you became desperate, possessive, his muscular arms wrapping around you to make your frame push against his even more. His lips moved in a dominant manner, biting your bottom lip as he let himself lose all form of self control. Your hands found their way to Jason's shoulders, fingers tangling in his tuxedo jacket as you responded to his kiss with equal fervor. His toned body flexing under your fingers almost like it burned him but it left him wanting more of you.
The world outside faded away as you stood locked in a dance of desire and danger, your hearts beating in sync with the rush of adrenaline that still coursed through you. The kiss deepened, a testament to the electric connection that had sparked between the two of you amidst the chaos and danger of your mission. He couldn’t get enough of you, his mouth finally pulling away so the two of you could catch your breath. You opened your eyes slightly, looking at his hooded ones as his eyes flickered to your swollen lips.
Was it the adrenaline?
Was it the high?
Was it him?
Was it everything around you that led you to this moment?
“Jason…”, you whispered against his mouth as you tried to catch your breath.
You couldn’t even catch your breath before his mouth devoured yours again, pressing his body against yours and pushing you against the wall behind you. His body hunched over slightly due to the height difference but his dominance was overwhelming, pushing you into overdrive. Your hands tangled in his hair, his lips leaving your mouth and kissing down the side of your neck. Your body shook from the pleasure, your nails digging into his arm as his hand reached your lower back and pulled you against him again. His teeth bit the curve of your neck slightly, licking the sensitive area as a soft moan released from your lips.
In that stolen moment, as you kissed amidst the quiet of your apartment, everything else melted away—the heist, the risks, the uncertainty of your future. There was only the heat of the connection, the electricity that crackled between you, and the undeniable truth that you both had crossed a line you couldn't un-cross.
As you finally pulled apart, breathless and flushed, You looked up at Jason with wide eyes, your heart racing in sync with his. Jason rested his forehead against yours, your eyes locked in a silent exchange that spoke volumes of unspoken promises and newfound intimacy.
“Jay…”, his name slipped from your lips in a desperate tone, your body betraying you by reacting to the final swipe he did on your skin, nipping on your neck before pulling back.
“Y/n….”
Jason rested his forehead against yours, his voice husky as he murmured, "We did it."
You smiled, your fingers tracing lightly along Jason's suit. "Yeah, we did," you whispered, your lips swollen and missing his as you spoke.
In that moment, as you stayed in his hold and met his gaze in silence, you felt in your bones the truth of your relationship with him. Despite the anger, the hatred, the stupid hits at one another, Jason wasn’t the threat you believed him to be. The tension that had grown between the two of you, the moments of uncertainty where doubt had threatened to cloud your judgment, the anger that had been placed inside of you by Sionis, it all disappeared when you met his gaze.
You felt a familiarity in him, despite your denial, you couldn’t push it away. Not when there had been so many times he had helped you, taken you out of harm's way, and refused to make any hits that would result in serious harm.
You’d believed for months that he was irritating, a nuisance, the bane of your existence and yet… here you were completely wrapped up in him.
The cold realization sank into your bones…
What have you done?

Heya! Just a check in w my Dumeril's ground Boa. They're doing very well and are growing nicely <3. Your obligatory fun fact: Did you know the Dumeril's ground Boa is a terrestrial snake? That's right, these guys don't actually climb that well! He's squeezing my hand pretty tight here, but these animals can be rather clumsy. Though they have been spotted in trees, they're not the most adapted at navigating branches or holding on, and their fat shorter tails don't offer nearly as much as support as other arboreal boas do. Because of this, they can be prone to falling! That being said, they make a very fun animal to handle. They're like blood pythons in a sense, if your animal decides to start exploring while you're holding them as this one often does, its your job to stay under your animal.

DAY 5946
Jalsa, Mumbai May 29/30, 2024 Wed/Thu 1:53 AM
🪔 ,
May 30 .. birthday greetings to Ef Mahmud Chowdhury from London 🇬🇧 .. and Ef Heena Bhambhani .. 🙏🏻🚩❤️
work done for the cause of the general .. for the hopeful understanding of why it is being done .. of the desire to be assured that it may make some sense in the execution of some of the pointers spelt out ..
and then some more .. more ideas that have not been covered and not been drawn in the creative ..
I work for the campaign on Road Safety .. to be able to personally share some of my experiences on how this should be designed and brought to the people in general that have the right and privilege to use roadways , vehicles and the discipline and understanding that road safety in its execution may bring about a better discipline ..
It can never be a statement .. it must contain the psychological temperament of the viewer and the listener .. when you command for understanding it is often taken in the wrong spirit .. a lot needs to be put into the reason for the Campaign and the essential pointers that all motorists and pedestrians must believe and understand for a better temperament and safety on our roads ..
it shall be a long drawn battle .. but like all else, when the cause is understandable .. when the cause is right , then all else falls into place ..
It needs a continuous rendering ..
Talking about it in a formality and then forgetting it as 'job done' is the worst status of its bearing .. you have to persist , persevere , and determine a will that eventually shall work for the benefit of the reason it was done ..
So yes .. I commit myself to the fruition of the campaign .. and shall persist to the best for its victory ..
Tumblr media
hand on heart to set the nature for the purity of the mission ..
Tumblr media
salutations for them that support and volunteer to assist in the need ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.. and have the great pleasure of my cute sweet colleague in front of the camera .. tresses and all .. 🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes the moments in pictures are repeated .. for little girls be the sweetest of all ..
and the thoughts go back to that masterpiece of a film GIGI .. and the song
'Thank Heaven for little girls'
Tumblr media
the song sung in its most inimitable rendition, by the great Maurice Chevalier .. and starring the most handsome man of the times Louis Jourdan !!
Ah .. those were the days my friends .. sadly lost in the speedometer of modernity and time ..
and my gratitude to the enviable Avinash Gowarikar for his photographic senses and the ability to capture you and make you look grand .. despite the flaws of age !!

I leave my liege
liege
"Since modern populations often ignore aristocracy (except in the case of tabloid coverage), many words once used for royalty are now unusual and obscure. Such is the case with liege. If you refer to someone as "my liege" you are probably playing a game.
Ah, the Medieval era, where we find the word liege as we know it, a term used by underlings for the lord of their land. The word was probably of Germanic origin, derived from the Medieval Latin laeticus. In an interesting etymological twist, the word at one time meant a leader of a band of free men — pretty much the opposite of its eventual meaning as a feudal lord. The word is not used much today, except in jest (see Python, Monty)."

Small things I love about the Septimus Heap books:
This is a universe where you can have an actual pet rock. Petroc Trelawney has my whole heart and should also have yours.
At one point, an iguana was mowing the loan
The misadventures of Stanley, the rat having to deal with the Heaps (tm) in every book and his failed marriage and the adoption of his children + his job. He is doing his best, okay ?
Grandpa Benji went into the forest one day and never came back, living his life as a tree int he forest.
Sam. I know he is not little but I love Sam Heap and he deserves to be appreciated (the moments between him and Sep are great)
Medieval world ? Yes totally. Is that a submarine and an elevator ? Yes. Don't worry about it. There is no implications here of this being a post-apocalyptic futuristic world. What are you talking about ?
✨Jenna and Septimus killed a man ✨.
And considering what Sep says to her after and the fact that he was a child soldier without a name until he was 10,it probably wasn't the first time for him
Sleuth, Simon's emotional support tennis ball. It's very busy considering Simon is Simon and would need a lot of emotional support. It is also doing its best and should stop being taken by little brats .
Marcia and her fashion choices (tm). Does she need the pointy purple python shoes ? Nooooo. We wouldn't have her without them though.
The illustrations. They are so good. I love them so much.
You can add more if you want..

It's finally here! My little "demo" of what I've been coding for months little by little in Python, to prepare a base for my AU stories. Master Swatch has a message to tell you, will you listen to his words? 👀
Today ephemeris is my saint (falls on 6th of January), which is also national holiday in my country. What a nice day to release this brainchild 👏
Hope you like this scene I has been crunching since the 1st of January 😁 If you go to watch it on my YouTube channel for the HD version or more commodity -- where I plan to upload all my AU shorts from now on -- consider to [[SUBSCRIBE]] and give a [[LIKE]] to start nudging my channel into the [[BIG-SHOT]] zone 🚀 Here is the [[LINK]] 👇
((like, it asks for 500 subs for starters with the partnership -- the curve is more steep than the road to affiliate on Twitch's apparently, hmm... 🤔))
More to come in the future, as the framework for the fantasy of my AU is working quite well. If you wonder about when the visual-novel game is going to be released, that will be far flung into the future. I need to acquire more economic stability (like getting a job 🙇‍♂️) before making the game and releasing it into the world. But meanwhile, you'll be able to interact with my characters and see a glimpse about them and their personal stories before the main game is released, which is pretty dope, isn't it? 😋 Take them as a preface to the main story, whenever I'll be able to focus on the main game without scrambling each month to make ends meet (kromer doesn't grow on charred black egg bearing trees, you know?)
Anyway, hope you feel my video enough motivational to usher you into awesome feats for this year 😎 Believe in yourself and remember, little by little, drop by drop, you can fill up a sea! (even if it takes a [[REAL LONG TIME]] to happen). Patience has its rewards, but don't forget to take good care of yourself while at it 😊
Until then, and thanks for all the support, and for enduring with all my impecunious Spamtonian shortcomings 👋

The Secret Life of Neema: Sabotage
The flat rock was taken almost immediately.
Kiburi glanced up at the group of birds clustered together on the Phantom’s supposed spot, rolling his eyes at their obnoxious squawking. So many thoughts plagued his mind: Was this “Phantom of the Grasslands” really who he thought it was? What would Neema be doing here, then? If not, where was he and what was the phantom doing with him? Why were the royals not taking this Phantom seriously if they were so afraid of him? Why would they not listen to such a simple request?
Why?
“Hey Kiburi, over here!”
Tamka’s voice caused Kiburi to look up. The burly crocodile was smiling at him amongst the crowd, waiting patiently for him to walk over. Nduli was right beside him, staring at the stage while Wakali slightly moved around trying to catch a glimpse of her father through the different body masses of the animals. Kiburi made his way over, standing right between Nduli and Wakali, who beamed upon finally seeing him as she moved closer.
“Are you ready for the show, dad?”
Kiburi gave his daughter a lighthearted grin, “You know music isn’t my thing.”
“I thought you liked the last performance.” Nduli butt in.
“I said it wasn’t bad, that doesn’t mean I liked it.”
“Give it a shot, maybe you’ll change your mind after this one.” Tamka grinned, “I heard it’s based on some myth.”
Kiburi noticed his daughter shifting glances at the spot next to her, frowning as if the stranger next to her had taken someone else’s spot.
“I wish Uncle Neema was here,” she said, “He likes myths, right?”
“Yeah, he’s a big myth guy!” Nduli answered, “I just hope he’s okay.”
Kiburi smirked, “Somethin’ tells me he’s not exactly missing out on anything.”
The other three did not have time to reply when they heard someone’s “Shh! The show’s starting!” as the performers made their way onto the stage. Kiburi had already lost track of the plot, his eyes wandering elsewhere. The only thing he did notice was the cast. He swore they were the exact same animals playing major roles, much like in the last one. Mashuhuri seemed to be the lead character, with some of her cronies playing more supporting roles. Paka was among the rest, playing a background role with no speaking lines so far. His eyes fell upon his float, whose eyes were glued onto the stage. They seemed to be enjoying it at least, not that he knew why. He briefly followed their gaze, right on time for some slapstick humor caused by Mashuhuri at Paka’s expense. He could hear Tamka softly comment to himself,
“That should’ve been me.”
He could see Queen Muziki’s majordomo (Kondakta, was it?) give a small nod along with a gentle wave of his wing before all the background animals started humming. Mashuhuri gave a confident smile as she reminded her audience of her voice.
Great, now they were singing.
Kiburi had no idea why some of the audience members were moving their heads to the beat. Some were even mouthing the lyrics. Even his float were smiling throughout the song. How could they stand it? It was insufferable. He internally cringed, his eyelids lowering out of boredom…
That was, until a loud bellow erupted throughout the area.
His head suddenly perked up at the sound. Mashuhuri froze in shock as multiple gasps could be heard throughout the audience. Queen Muziki and Kondakta started to look around them, trying to figure out where the noise came from.
“Didn’t the phantom tell you that the flat rock was supposed to be kept empty?”
Nne and Tano had entered from each side of the stage. It was Nne who made the remark, followed by Tano’s “C’mon, you had one job”. Kiburi had to give them credit, their translation was accurate. He thought he could see the hyenas smiling a bit, as if they knew the show was going to be interrupted. A ball python finally spoke up,
“He’s here, the Phantom of the Grasslands!”
Paka’s eyes widened, “It is him!”
“Your part is silent,” Mashuhuri snapped, “little toad.”
A hiss was heard.
Tano chuckled, “He says you’re one to talk.”
Nduli turned to Kiburi, “You really think it’s Neema?”
“It might be,” Kiburi replied, “Then again, any croc could make those noises.”
The donkey huffed, strutting past the duo and near the end of the left side.
“Fruit.”
A young wildcat mindlessly pushed a couple fruits toward Mashuhuri’s way, jumping back a bit as she snatched it with her teeth. She glared at Nne and Tano, mouthing something which prompted them to exit the stage. She took a breath, smiling politely as she said Kondakta’s name. The egret nodded, once again waving his wings to start the music.
“Faithful subjects, away with this fool,” Mashuhuri sang, “you cannot speak, but kiss me in my-HAWWWW!”
The sound caused all the animals to freeze. Each of the cast and audience members alike began exchanging confused looks with one another. The brief silence was suddenly broken by a low sound from none other than the Phantom.
Laughter.
This was not the joyous laughter the crocodiles always heard in the Grasslands. It was deep, gruff, intimidating, almost like a rumble. Kiburi exchanged a knowing look with his float members, who simultaneously nodded as if they had read each other’s minds. There was only one animal—one crocodile—with that kind of laugh.
“Yeah. Definitely Neema.”
Mashuhuri started to sing again, her voice shaking a bit out of cautiousness. She tried hitting a note, only to make the same sound as before. Neema began to laugh harder at the donkey’s continuous braying. Laughter soon spread into the audience, as some of them started to giggle. Nne and Tano were practically falling over themselves laughing at a particular bray made by Mashuhuri, eventually prompting Tamka and Nduli to burst into laughter. Even Kiburi found himself smiling in amusement. Neema’s roar was soon heard amongst the noise.
“If she keeps singing like that, she’s gonna cause an avalanche!”
Finally, Mashuhuri ran off the stage with tears in her eyes, some of her cronies at her hooves. Muziki waved her trunk at Kondakta mouthing “Do something!”, causing the egret to fly to the stage. The laughter settled down as he spoke.
“Attention, citizens of the Grasslands, we greatly apologize for the interruption. The performance will continue in a few moments where the lead will be played by—by Paka! Yes, Paka!”
“Faithful subjects,” Muziki continued, “in the meantime, the cast shall be giving you the dance routine from Act Three.”
Kondakta shot the elephant a look, to which she gave a single nod in approval. Her majordomo flew to the cast, ushering his wings at certain animals to the stage while Paka ran behind it to review her lines. Kiburi kept his eyes fixated on to the right of the stage, ignoring the now prancing animals and squinting at something.
“What’re you doing, dad?” Wakali whispered.
“Just want to see something. C’mon.”
Wakali and Nduli started to follow. Kiburi briefly glanced back, noticing Tamka’s eyes glued to the performance. He rolled his eyes, loudly whispering.
“Tamka.”
The larger crocodile broke his gaze, quickly walking towards the others with a “I’m goin’ I’m goin’”. He turned his head to catch several small birds spinning around each other, forming a heart shape with their bodies. The three continued to follow their leader through the audience as the latter rudely grunted and snapped at the animals in the way. Kiburi couldn’t care less about the dirty looks. He was more concerned about what was offstage. He could make out a few fruits based on the various colors: yellow, red, green…
And he could have sworn he saw a hint of orange.
Meanwhile, Neema had peered out of his hiding place, studying the animals before him. Everyone seemed to be busy, either locked on the performance or performing themselves. Good. Just as he had hoped. He took one last look before slinking away, slipping into a nearby lake as discreetly as he could. Paka wouldn’t be on stage for a while, he had time to kill until then. He kept his body close to the bottom until he found himself in a more secluded area. He kept only his eyes above the water as he glanced around. A vervet monkey and a springbok buck seemed to be walking toward him, with the latter listening intently to the former’s talking. Neema grinned subtly before sinking back into the water. He watched as tiny bubbles floated up from his nostrils, eyes fixated above him. His mouth formed a grin upon hearing the voices getting closer. He squinted, barely able to see different colored blobs now forming in front of him. He almost immediately felt a tingling sensation on his snout, making him grin even wider.
It was time.
In a split second, Neema lept from the water and latched onto the bottom of one of the springbok’s horns. Both animals let out a bloodcurdling scream, one of fear, the other of pain. The crocodile quickly pulled back, dragging his prey into the water. He only clenched his jaws tighter as it struggled. He paid no mind to the monkey’s “PHANTOM!”, making sure he was atop the herbivore before rolling his body a full 360 degrees. The splashing finally stopped after a few more spins, prompting Neema to take a large bite out of the body. He looked up. The monkey was unsurprisingly gone. He shrugged nonchalantly. That was fine. One antelope was all he needed anyway.
“HEEEEELP!!!”
The animals stopped their dancing, some almost fell over from the yelling. Kiburi merely cocked a brow as the monkey kept running towards them, still screaming. Muziki looked down.
“What happened? What’s the matter?!”
“PHANTOM! IT WAS THE PHANTOM! H-HE GOT SOMEONE!”
Both the cast and the audience were now beginning to panic at the mention of the phantom. Muziki’s eyes widened,
“What?!”
Tears were flowing from the monkey’s eyes now, “It was so fast! We were drinking and then I saw a green thing jump out of the water. I don’t know, he just… appeared! Came out of nowhere! I think he killed him!”
“Did you see what animal it was?” Kondakta asked.
“It looked like a crocodile,” the monkey glanced at Kiburi’s float, pointing at Kiburi. “Like that!”
“Don’t look at us!” Tamka said, “We were here the whole time!”
“Then it’s gotta be Neema.” Kiburi stated.
“But Neema wouldn’t do that,” Nduli piped up, “…would he?”
For a moment, Kiburi said nothing. This was so contradicting. He had no doubt Neema was behind everything, yet this didn’t seem like him at all. He had thought that Neema wouldn’t kill out of malice, at least not on his own. His mind went back to the day the float was banished, how his float’s attempt to overpower King Simba was foiled. Yet Neema seemed to do the same thing on his own without getting caught. He wondered if the plan would have worked had it been Neema’s idea.
“It’s either that or he was just hunting. Then again…” Kiburi rolled a half-eaten orange towards Muziki, “he was behind that stunt with the donkey. So, we don’t know for sure.”
“But what’s the fruit for?” Paka asked.
“That’s not just any fruit, it’s an orange.” Nduli explained, “The juice is really bad for your voice.”
Mashuhuri glared at the wildcat who gave her the orange as the latter smiled sheepishly. Paka shook her head,
“It doesn’t make sense. He’s supposed to be a hero, not a murderer.”
Wakali looked up at Kiburi, “Dad, is uncle Neema still a bad guy?”
Kiburi scoffed, “You know what? I’ve had enough of this ‘Phantom’ stuff. We’re gonna find Neema and get him back.”
Tamka raised his eyebrows, “Duh, how’re we gonna do that?”
“Actually,” Paka smiled, an idea forming in her mind, “I think I have an idea.”

Devlog 2025-01-03 (What we've been cooking… Contains slightly nsfw images.)
2025 is going to be absolutely amazing!
You might have noticed that our pinups have been sporadic at best, which really sucks for everyone, and it's something that we're fixing. Hirodan, who has been drawing the last few pinups, is an amazing artist, but he, unfortunately (for us), got a full-time job which demands all of his time. (yay for Hirodan for getting the job!)
We've employed a new permanent artist who started on the 1st of January to help us create more characters for IF THEN ELSE, and one of their monthly assignments is to draw the pinups. (Franco has graciously allowed us to share some teasers of what you can expect from him going forward!) Besides Pinups and Character Asset packs, Franco will also be helping with some of our side projects, the first of many being a short game set in the Infinite Stars universe for the Sealed with a Kiss jam running this month. (We're excited for this one!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Some examples of what you can expect from our 2025 pinups!)
If that wasn't exciting enough, we are currently in the final stages of bringing an additional permanent (meaning not-a-freelancer) writer on board to focus on some of the side projects we have planned for 2025 and beyond.
I should probably stop while I'm ahead and stay quiet, but call it New Year excitement babbling: We are looking into expanding the team to include a permanent Python developer to help code all the cool ideas we have for Infinite Stars and the other planned side projects. This isn't official yet, and affordability will be the biggest deciding factor.
With the additional help, we aim to do four modest to large public Infinite Stars releases this year, so one release per quarter giving you more Infinite Stars goodness with less waiting in between. The season 1 wrap-up is on the horison. We still have a few more surprises in store, but I'm going to be lying if I said my mind doesn't wander off to plan and imagine content for season 2.
All of this costs money, quite a bit more than what we are pulling in from our amazing patrons right now. Luckily, I've built up a bit of savings from my day job, which I intend to push back into Infinite Stars as a calculated risk until it becomes self-sustaining again.
::Nervous chest breathing::
That being said, I'll need your help to get there. I'm willing to put my own money where my mouth is, and I hope the results will earn your enthusiasm and support. Patreon has been nagging me to update our Patron tiers, so if you have any ideas as to what would earn your buy-in on our journey, please be so kind to share them with me, no matter how silly or unrealistic they might seem to you. I've always loved doing the impossible, and maybe, together, we can get it done.
On to the actual reason you are here: News about the new Infinite Stars content. It's still cooking, unfortunately. The last internal word count on content not yet available in the public build was around 4x the length of Episode 1, with a bit more to go.
This will also be the first time you'll encounter a "wrong" decision that leads to a premature ending of the story. (It's clearly labelled, so there is no need to stress about it!)
It'll also introduce several new characters, most of them alien.
Tumblr media
(A sharp-eyed theory crafter might notice one of these isn't like the others.)
It has quite a few new MC portraits that haven't been released yet.
As I've alluded to before in the past, it has some anxiety-inducing content that will probably top that scene near the end of Episode 3. I've also hinted at some twists and a few new things we're trying out... Honestly, I can't wait to share it with all of you, and I wish it was already ready.
Have a fantastic weekend. Be kind, be safe and remember to see the beauty in the small things that you might miss otherwise. <3

I wanted to make this little comic about Lukas’s and Python’s A-support ❤️💙
I remember listening it for the first time and being completely charmed by Lukas being vulnerable and Python supporting him in his own snarky way
And here is a video with the voices. I want to thank Greg Chun & Doug Erholtz for doing a phenomenal job at voicing Lukas and Python respectively. You both brought these characters to life and cemented them as some of my fav characters in the whole series ❤️💙

alright tell me about YOUR current favorite guy now
I AM FINALLY DOING THIS i have been. so distracted lmaooo. BUT I decided to do the guy in my icon, fifth member of weezer and best FE character, Python <3. He may not be the Number One guy in my brain right this moment, but that spot and most after it are all taken by OCs, so. We're doing him instead. Also because of this tag because I think you'd like this guy jort
Tumblr media
ANYWAY, Python. My guy. He's a character from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a recruitable archer early on in Alm's route.
Tumblr media
Now, in Echoes, the class discrepancy between nobles and commoners is a prominent theme, especially in Alm's route. This is something that comes up in a lot of FE games, unsurprisingly, seeing as princes and thieves fight together side by side. And the games (at least those I've played, which is only FEA-FE3H. I know.) tend to handwave a lot of the more unsavory points of that topic. A lot of the time, conversations or supports that delve into that topic end in "yeah, being poor and starving sucks, but you know what also sucks? Being royalty! It's really hard :[" which, like, yeah, it is, but also one party here has the means to help the other, but is choosing not to instead say how their life sucks too, actually. Idk, these conversations always rubbed me in the wrong way a bit.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, Python is a commoner. And he doesnt buy any of that "being rich is hard too guys :[" shit for a Second. In his support with Clive (a nobleman knight who's opinion on the whole situation is "well some people have to be poor so I can be rich") he straight up tells him that his ideas on how society should be run are wrong and that his view on common people are condescending at best.
youtube
Python doesn't fight for honor or any sense of duty, he fights for his paycheck and his childhood friend who does feel that duty, Forsyth. Even if he and Forsyth disagree on many things, there's a mutual respect between the two, an understanding of their station, and a small rivalry between how to best navigate said station. Forsyth encourages Python to get out there, try things, put some effort into life. But Python just, doesn't see much of a point. But it's not for any depressive reason, or even straight apathy. Python just prioritizes rest and relaxation. He doesn't live to work, he has no dream job (which Forsyth takes as having no dream at all, not that Python would disagree), he just wants to enjoy his life; sleeping in the sun, having a few drinks, spending time with friends, and sharing stories and gossip.
Speaking of friends and gossip, I'm going to drop my favorite support of his, maybe even my favorite support in the whole game (even though its locked behind a dlc map like seriously what was up with this games dlc why is a support between two base game units behind a paywall-)
youtube
Going from this support, and the fact that neither of them have romantic endings, (Lukas' even saying he 'never wanted for companionship') this is a pretty clear attempt by FE at writing two aroace (or at least just aro) characters. And, idk, I think its really special. Neither are framed as missing out or needing another to be happy, the conversation is to the point and respectful, and they are both allowed to be full characters beyond this detail of their lives.
And that's a common thread through Python's character that I admire. In any other story, the character that had no want for big dreams, constant improvement, or romance would be framed as an empty person, someone deeply unhappy without anything to strive for. But, even as the other characters try and impose that narrative onto Python, that's never actually the case. He is happy as he is, doing just enough to be as comfortable as he can, taking rests and shortcuts all along the way. He will not sell his time more than he must, he will not work harder than he has to, he will not allow those who push themselves to breaking for those above them to guilt him into doing the same. He has nothing to prove, nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, the one time he could push himself, in his bad ending after Forsyth dies, *THAT* is when he is empty and miserable, fighting like his friend once did until his early, untimely death.
Python is just such a breath of fresh air. He was the one in my brain telling me say no to my boss long before Chilchuck, he is a character that not even FE has been able to write like that again (even when writing for him specifically, like his Heroes characterization is so off and bad augh). He is one of the very few canonically aro characters I can find, and I'm proud to have him napping in my icon for the foreseeable future.

tbh thinking maybe I should try to take the time to overhaul most if not all of the various tweaks and mashups I've made for XIV once the Forbidden Magicks become fully available once more.
The problem outside of fatigue lmao is that neither 3ds Max nor Blender can really do everything I need them to - the former consistently breaks both shapes/morphtargets and vertex colour information, while the latter refuses to let you directly work with and modify custom vertex normals, among other things.
I'm really tempted to try to look into just fixing at least some of these issues myself since both 3ds Max and Blender support having extensions written for them, but neither is a particularly small endeavour and Blender's plugin documentation is ... not great - for one it keeps referencing a C++ API that was apparently deprecated years ago?? At least the API it does have uses Python which is familiar, but it doesn't really offer a lot of examples for how and where to get started beyond the extremely basics, making it difficult to figure out where to look to accomplish the things I would need it to do.
Also honestly the fact that 3ds Max is the one that fails to properly import/export data from .fbx files when the .fbx file format is Autodesk's own proprietary interop file format is just utterly pathetic?? Like Blender had to actively reverse-engineer the format themselves without any information on how it works and still did a better job at it?? Seriously autodesk how are you consistently failing this hard

(business) days til i finally leave my job: 24/48. 50%. we're half way there lads.
i had a chat a few days ago with a senior python guy who sits 4 desks down from me. he mentioned that he doesn't have to do much anymore because he mostly just supervises the india team now. why is the india team supervised by some english guy instead of someone in india? you know why.
he explained to me why we work from home 80% of the time, and in a nice, large, heated, almost empty office otherwise. why he gets paid enough to comfortably support 5 kids in a major city without actually having to do much.
the inefficiency and comfort of our european branch is subsidised by the exploitation of the teams in india and south america, and, to a lesser degree, the US. these other workers work longer hours doing harder shit for less pay and no benefits. we, a country with free healthcare, get company-guaranteed free access to private healthcare, whereas the people in countries without free healthcare get fuck all. because those places are valuable to corporations like mine in the first place because they didn't have (successful) labour rights movements*, and it just so happens that the people fighting for your national political rights tend to be the same people who are fighting for rights within the workplace.
we in europe are only employed because the company needs 1) respectable (read: white, english/french/german speaking) people to host meetings and respond to emails in the wealthy clients' time zones, and 2) people to groom for management and senior positions.
i'm in the process of leaving the job to go back into science for half the pay, worse hours, fewer benefits, and much harder work. somehow, i still feel like i'll be better off.
