- Rudimentary tooling with the stormy seas background image I love so it's all moving super slowly. Magic! The gif is not a perfect smooth loop tho which is annoying. But right now Photoshop CS6 which is the video editor I use to make perfect loops/cinemagraphs is acting up on me :(

honestly the body language and the stories told through it can be kind of baffling. since this is an older show, the style isn't uniform; the different approaches by different animators aren't concealed. areas where the approach is more economical, where characters are off-model, saving the budget for the real shit, are noticeable but don't register as disruptive or even noteworthy because of how much supports each moment. it's never distracting— instead my attention is drawn away from it by what's going on in the scene. i am open and willing to be convinced and Escaflowne gets me over and over again. the faces and such are more dramatically stylised, but it's a peculiar pairing that i almost want to call an optical illusion because the character animation is at a level i think is more typically associated with something that embraces and celebrates the scope of humanity like Cowboy Bebop. because of this, the stylisation of the faces almost immediately cease to matter because we see the breadth of what they're capable of in spite of it. it's way more than expected, but that typically comes through in motion. it actually doesn't feel fair to highlight it through static images.
