"About James? Oh yes. But he always knew, from the moment he could talk he would tell us, and correct us. Every stranger who would compliment him for being well-behaved, he would look up at me with big eyes and say "mama I'm a boy, tell them they are wrong." Effie reminisced.

"Mum," James said. An attempted caution but all fondness.

Fleamont chuckled as he set down four cups of tea.

"I'm sorry, James I asked," Regulus said thanking Fleamont as he passed him a cup. "It's just- well I know they aren't a very good baseline, but my parents were furious when Sirius... well actually my parents are always furious about Sirius." Regulus laughed lightly.

"It's alright dear," Effie said, reaching out to squeeze his shoulder.

"He's just interested in you son, it's nice," Fleamont said.

"I know dad, it's honestly fine. Just pull back on the embarrassing kid stories please," James said.

"Wait there are embarrassing James stories?" Regulus antagonized, and Effie and Fleamont both laughed as his waggling eyebrows.

"Oh goodness," Effie said, "there are so many, where to begin," Fleamont finished.

"Parents, please behave," James said getting up.

He had been holding Regulus' hand, who didn't let go. As James got up Regulus let his arm be pulled around his head, until he was just one step away from having to pull apart. James turned to look at him, and Regulus met his gaze. Love and joy and something secret but sweet passed silently between them. Then, Regulus kissed James' hand and it was like everything else happening around them fell away for just a moment. As Regulus sat back up and James pulled away with a smile, the spell was broken.

Effie and Fleamont smiled at one another knowingly. They too had a similar magical ability to be looking at one another and forget about everything else. When they looked away, Regulus pretending not to watch but waiting expectantly.

"Do we tell him the story of how James tried to get his nani to teach him to sew so he could make all his skirts into pants?" Effie giggled a bit.

"Or about the time that he only spoke in rhymes because he thought that's how he would become a poet," Fleamont offered.

"Oh my Dad!" James groaned as he walked back in with a plate of biscuits.

But then the three of them burst into laughter. And when James looked at Regulus, at his star, into the stormy grey eyes sparkling now as the sun looked upon it, he couldn't even be bothered by what his parents were saying. Actually as Regulus was laughing and laughing, James realized he never wanted that sound to end.

I've been thinking about how much I adore Tonks and Remus' dynamic but physically cannot ship them because my brain is being weird about their fucking age gap. this is so frustrating. they would have been so lovely for me if Tonks was like at least 27 in 5th book. Ronks (yeah I'm not calling it Remadora, Tonks hates her birth name ffs) would have been my ride-or-die alongside Jily and Wolfstar for sure.

because literally nothing else that Ronks antis consider deal breakers for them matters to me - not the fumbled way they get together in canon, not them getting married so quickly, not Tonks getting pregnant, not the assumed queer-coding of both characters (which I personally see, don't get me wrong. but it's assumed and who the fuck says they can't be queer4queer anyway?). sure, the nuclear family narrative being pushed so quickly and thoroughly onto them is peculiar but who says they didn't want to make the most of their time during a war? I love wartime drama and they would have been my shit if it weren't for... well. Tonks being 22 and Remus 35 when they meet.

I just can't ship big age gaps unless the youngest character is closer to 30 than 20. which is infuriating, because Ronks is objectively more fascinating because of their gap. my fucking loss, don't you think?

anyway, after thinking of ways I can make Tonks older without hurting the story, I began wondering whether her age is narratively important, and yes, turns out it very much is - for Harry.

Tonks being 22 in order of phoenix makes her the closest of Order members to Harry's age (Weasley twins don't count because they're Ron's brothers first, order members second for Harry) and the one Order member Harry can relate to the most in his youth and desire to fight. She almost perfectly parallels marauders and Lily in first war and represents the fun of the fight, the fire of youth, the confidence of a new recruit, the safety of relatability for Harry. She's one of the biggest inspirations for his newfound dream of becoming an auror. Harry needs Tonks among those older, battle-worn, cautious, secretive adults who don't take him seriously and never look him in the eye, because he wants to be what she is even before realising it and only reflects on it after spending time with her.

all in all, Tonks being 22 matters quite a lot for Harry's story.

now, we have no way of knowing whether Joanne came up with Ronks storyline prior to Tonks' introduction, but it shouldn't matter for their relationship, not in Joanne's opinion - Tonks' youth already fulfilled its narrative role in order of phoenix and stopped being an important asset of her character in half-blood prince.

oh, but unfortunately it still matters in the grand scheme of things, Joanne. you don't just introduce a young adult character (I'm 21 myself and gods, 22/23 is barely more mature), chuck their established age out the window and pair them up with a character in their mid-to-late thirties. and of fucking course it makes sense for a 23 year old to be down bad for some scruffy 36 year old man, it's incredibly realistic! this 36 year old man acting upon such crush is a little questionable, but still realistic (and we know Remus is very flawed, so I'm not surprised). but you know what isn't realistic at all?

Molly - a 46 year old woman, married to her high school sweetheart, mother to 7 children, 3 of which are close to Tonks' age - being extremely supportive of actually engaging in that sort of relationship, going as far as reprimanding Remus for not committing to it. I'm sorry, what? Molly might have some flaws as a mother, but she is nothing if not protective of her kids and those in their age range. She genuinely becomes somewhat of a mother figure for Tonks during their time in the Order, and I just cannot for the life of me understand how Molly could encourage her to pursue Remus and vice-versa, instead of consoling Tonks in her tragic crush and making sure Remus doesn't even look at her like that.

Minerva - an even older woman who taught both Remus and Tonks at Hogwarts, witnessed Remus becoming an adult from his graduation in 1978 up until 1981, then saw an 11 year old Tonks start Hogwarts 3 years later in 1984 - chiding Remus for not being "brave" enough to commit to such relationship. first of all, why the fuck is she involved in that narrative at all? it's none of her business??? she's not in any pseudo parenting role for either of them, unlike Molly, so I never understood why she even has a place to voice her opinion about their romance. second of all, even if it was her business, Minerva - a professor who witnessed both Remus and Tonks grow up so many years apart - would realistically feel pretty weird about such relationship.

those aren't problems with the ship itself, but rather the way Joanne implemented their romance in the story. I think it would be more realistic if Ronks was some kind of fucked up forbidden romance from other characters' perspectives. the way everybody is so instantly supportive of them is quite jarring to me.

interestingly, when I read hp for the first time at 11 I was quite adamant in my belief that Tonks was in love with Molly up until that scene in half-blood prince. a very weird belief for a kid, I know. I just only liked girls at the time and was relating to Tonks quite a bit since her introduction, so I guess I unconsciously decided she was a lesbian even without knowing that term yet. I also had a crush on my teacher in 4th grade and she was quite similar to Molly... yeah, this girl was projecting too much. I didn't pick up on Remus' queer-coding until I fell down the rabbit hole of lgbt discourse at 14, but was pretty shocked to read about Tonks falling for a man at 11. she was so like me until she wasn't :) it's pretty funny to think about now.

in conclusion, I'm hella jealous of those of you who don't have weird brains and can enjoy Ronks to their fullest potential. their canon writing has its issues but they're more interesting for it, truly. I'll stay in my no fun corner, headcanoning them as lavender married, queer-platonic, bisexual besties co-parenting Teddy Alastor Tonks.

I was a Percy Jackson kid not only in the sense of being a fan of the book series but also in the sense that i was exactly like Percy and this is why i have zero sympathy for Harry Potter kids who still like the series or 'Marauder's Era' or whatever they're calling it now to excuse not growing up to care about other people

Harry Potter is none of that and i mean the whole franchise.SO MANY of the people in the series are perpetrators of toxicity and even corruption and there was a whole sorted house at Hogwarts set out to opress the minority metaphors that nobody ever bothered to try to disband,not even the oh so precious 'Chosen One',and that includes the fandom.'Slytherins are discrimated for being ambitious' genuinely felt like microaggression to me back when i was in the fandom because 'discrimation'?Really? kinda agree kinda disagree. i do think it wouldve been possible for mlvn to work but i wouldnt say hopper taking el in is the problem i think ud kinda just have to rewrite alotta their interactions with some small things in the beginning but with a completely different dynamic in the later seasons (sidenote: honest to god if theyd just written hopper a bit better i would fucking love him as el’s dad like i love the found family trope and i do think they go well together but with the way he acts in s3 + the way their fight that culminates in el’s meltdown and him breaking the tv in s2 just yeah they rlly could’ve been done better)

It would be like this. And Disney could have included some gay crisis. No one would be like: Oh, now she told me she's a girl, hm, what am I gonna do? Oh well, I have had feelings for her for a while if I'm honest, why not marry her? It doesn't work like that. He must've at least had some doubts about his sexuality. No one develops feelings that fast. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

15. Tell me about a plotline that could have been interesting if anyone else wrote it.

Of course, I wish anyone other than Duggan had written Pyro's stint on Marauders, except maybe Sina Grace, who had Pyro make a cameo in the Iceman series just so Bobby could kick his ass and call him a washed-up loser. (Fair, but not how I want to see Pyro used as main cast member). I actually liked some of what Duggan did with Pyro, there were some good or funny moments, I just wish he was in the hands of a writer who took him seriously as a character or acknowledged any of his past history. I mean, he put Pyro on a boat delivering medicine to sick humans and gave him some vague crumbs of a redemptive storyline, and did not once make ANY mention of Pyro's Legacy Virus experience (even though it would have made perfect sense and built into the idea of redemption), or his heroic death saving Senator Kelly. There was so much potential in Marauders to DO something with Pyro that was genuinely interesting, and Duggan just left most of that on the floor. Pyro on Hellions under Zeb Wells would have been great, at least Wells knows how to write a balanced team book.

Also, after Pyro was revealed to have the Legacy Virus, and was staying on the island refuge of Empyrean (supposed charitable billionaire, actually a mutant villain who wanted to exploit the virus to gain power), the story of Empyrean showing his true colors could have been genuinely interesting. Showing the Brotherhood and Pyro himself having a falling out with Empyrean, because even though Pyro is a selfish bastard he doesn't want to see more mutants infected with Legacy, could have been a great story, but instead Empyrean was written out of Marvel continuity and left stranded in dinosaur times (official scientific term) in a Burger King tie-in comic.

34. Which retcon do you hate the most?

Obviously Pyro switching from English to Australian.

Nah, just kidding. I don't know if Pyro getting essentially "straight-washed" after the obvious and deliberate queer-coding by Byrne counts, but if it does, then that for sure. Or Duggan treating Jean Grey as Pyro's dream fantasy, although I still maintain that says much more about Emma, who was projecting the fantasy into Pyro's mind, than Pyro himself.

I'd also maybe say Duggan's re-imagining of Pyro as a drunk fratboy, but what the hell, Pyro's been portrayed as a violent idiot by other writers before. At least it was a fun version of Pyro, with more focus and depth I would have fully enjoyed it.

45. What’s the worst take you’ve seen about [x] (popular or not)?

Someone once called Pyro a would-be rapist, and their example was that one shitty issue of Daredevil where Blob and Pyro are being really gross about a mutant girl they are capturing. Even though there's no real evidence in the comic that Pyro actually did or tried to do anything with the girl, beyond just capture her for Freedom Force, and Blob is actually much grosser in his behavior. Pyro just seems to be paying lip service to the whole "oh yeah, pretty girl," thing, and is much more interested in fighting Daredevil. Also, the blog discussing the issue that this person linked for "evidence" was even saying that they thought Pyro and Blob were OOC in this issue. Like, I will gladly acknowledge all the ways that Pyro is and has been a piece of shit in the comics. He's vicious and mean, and he kills people quite gleefully at times. But he has barely shown any interest in women at all throughout his history, and he's not a character I would write as being a sleazy sex-pest or sexual assaulter because...he just isn't. The closest he comes is one scene of Ultimate Pyro suggesting sexual assault of a female hero, which made no sense even in that universe because Ultimate Pyro had previously been written as a good guy (it was during the absolute shit-show that was Ultimatum, where Blob also became a cannibal), and that one Daredevil issue. And I guess Pyro comically flirting with Rogue in TAS? Honestly, if your evidence of Pyro as a potential rapist is one OOC story in a non-X-Men book where the "rape" is vaguely implied at best, it's pretty flimsy.

Also that one person who claimed it was "canon" that Pyro had a crush on Kitty, based on an excerpt from his romance novel with a female character who doesn't resemble Kitty at all.

new fic coming soon!

Hi! I have news: I’m going to be posting a new multi-chapter HP fic soon! It’s a canon divergent 1980s fic about the Marauders as part of London’s queer wizarding arts scene. (Spoiler alert: Remus and Sirius are going to fall in love in it.) It’ll be called The Bent, after the gallery where the Marauders show their works.

I’ve been feeling the importance of our queer history especially intensely these last few years, what with all the transphobic and homophobic attitudes and laws that have been on the rise. In particular, I think it’s crucial to remember how central the fight against censorship has been to queer activism. In the 1980s and 90s, the AIDS crisis ramped up anti-queer sentiment, some of which manifested as pushback against queer art and literature. This art was called “obscene”: the bodies were perverse, the sex deviant, the people threatening to children and families. One response from some gay and lesbian people was to attempt to conform to straight norms, reassuring the public that they were harmless and ordinary—just like everyone else. Another response was to get weirder, defiantly embracing kink, non-conformity, and radical politics. These days, it feels increasingly important to me that we take the latter route; it seems clear that no amount of insistence that we are “safe” to be around will make queer people safe from the far right. 

So I wanted to write a fic that imagines a queer wizarding arts scene of the 1980s pushing back against rising anti-queer, anti-part-human, and blood supremacist attitudes and legislation. In order to make this work, I’ve gone a bit canon divergent, imagining that the war with Voldemort was averted but Death Eater ideology stuck around, simmering underneath wizarding society. The Marauders and friends all, therefore, got a chance to reach their late twenties, and no one had kids super young (sorry, Harry!). I’ve also decided that, like with other Muggle diseases, wizards don’t get AIDS, but the epidemic still has a big impact on the queer wizarding community. So everyone is navigating these complicated cultural waters together.

My plan is to post author’s notes here on Tumblr along with the link to each new chapter once a week. These notes will include some queer history related to the fic, with links for more info. I may also post some other stuff about 80s and 90s queer art and culture during the time I’m putting out the fic. I’ll tag it all “bent posting” and include relevant content warnings. I’m planning to post new chapters on Sundays, starting this weekend (Dec. 11); it’ll be twelve chapters long, and almost the whole thing is already drafted. It’s been living in my head for a long time and I’m really excited to finally share it with you all. <3 <3 <3

"Oh no, what's happened? Is Harry alright?" James asked his heart beating a little quickly.

"Harry's not hurt Mr. Potter, it's just that he is not dressed appropriately," the teacher explained.

"There's a jacket in his bag for recess Ma'am," James said, sitting back down at his desk.

"No no, it's just that your son, I regret to inform you, is wearing a skirt." The teacher said, her voice rising with uncomfortability.

"Right I know. Is he having trouble playing on the playground in it? Or distracting him in class?" James asked.

"No," the teacher replied.

"Okay so what exactly is the problem here Ma'am, I'm at work and if there is no issue.." James began to end the conversation.

"The problem is that he is a boy and he is wearing a skirt," the teacher smacked her lips.

"That's not a problem." James replied perfunctorily.

Harry's teacher huffed and articulated each word next: "We had to send Harry to the principal's officer, Mr. Potter you clearly aren't listening to-" but James cut her off not having any of this.

"You're right I must not be listening because right now what I'm hearing is that you kicked my child out of class, stopped his education now several times, not because his attire made him distracted or unable participate, but because you are a small minded human. Please tell me that I'm not hearing that." James said not cruelly but with enough bite to his words that they were sharp.

"It is against school dress code for boys to wear girl's clothes," is the only thing the teacher could think to reply.

"Good thing my child is just wearing clothes then," James said. He had already had this fight and he wasn't going to budge. James wasn't going to have his child hide parts of himself, especially so young, just because someone else had cemented gender roles instead of brains.

"Yes that's what Harry said to me as well," the teacher grumbled. James beamed knowing Harry was sticking up for himself and not letting adults bully him.

James didn't want to stifle Harry's self-expression and Regulus certainly wouldn't allow it knowing how much work it took to break down his own walls from how he grew up. James was done with this conversation.

"Thank you for calling but I must go. Send Harry back to class please he needs to work on his math," James said hanging up.

i will die fighting with anyone who claims golden trio era is cringe. especially!! especially if they do it with saying that marauders era is ‘better’ because almost all the characters are written as gay.

i see this all the time on twitter and tiktok and like…uh…before any mainstream media portrayed gay relationships regularly (heartstopper, young royals, song of achilles, everything sucks) drarry was a massive way people who were queer found rep. (not saying that there weren’t any queer couples/ characters in books and movies before this but it certainly was so much harder to find).

for the longest time (before the term bl and then gay and then mlm) slash fan fiction was essentially synonymous with drarry and it was a huge source of comfort for queer ppl who had no other way to see their relationships represented in media. trying to claim some sort of superiority over another group of people who are, at the end of the day, just other harry potter fans is so odd to me and also, imo, lacks understanding the history of fan fic.

1. Pride (2014)

Some part of my brain is always thinking about this film, it’s so good. Like, I cannot even put into words what this film has made me feel. It was the first queer film I saw after deciding to come out & gave me a lot of hope that there are people who will not understand me but still love & appreciate me anyways—which has been a very useful & bittersweet lesson

2. Waves

A slice of life film about a black American family, specifically it follows the son of the family (at first) and him struggling with being a wrestler and having kinda crappy mental health. That’s all I can say without spoiling this film but it’s such a good one.

3. Annihilation

Best sci-fi movie to ever exist every other one can fuck off it does not hit the same (Arrival gets close but doesn’t have the Colours this one does) It’s just such an intense film, and I have a LOT and I mean A LOT of opinion on aliens/space/what life is or looks like elsewhere and this film comes kind of close to these opinions. I want to read the books so bad but they’re ones I want paper copies for which is expensive so I’m waiting until I have both the time & money for it

4. Everything Everywhere All At Once

Absolutely fucking phenomenal, mother/daughter dynamics fuck me up & this one did so much, I will cry if I talk about it for too long

5. Words on Bathroom Walls

Love this film so much. It’s about a teenage boy who’s entire life gets derailed by a schizophrenia diagnosis and he’s struggling to come to terms with it while in a new school and what it means for his life and future. Schizophrenia is an extremely stigmatized mental illness and I think this film does a good job with humanizing the struggles that come with a schizophrenia diagnosis. The films tone overall is he’s just some guy who’s had a hurtle thrown at him, and it’s only a part of who he is.

6. Bones and All

Y’all know I’m a sucker for this film, it’s so good. I also love how there is one to many props in this film that I personally own in my house and they’re weird things too like the cooler her dad owns and a specific mug etc.

7. SEA BEAST!!!

Oh my god it’s such a good film. It’s very how to train your dragon like where the humans are at war with these ocean beasts, but unlike httyd the sea beasts are not like “puppies” and don’t get me wrong I LOVE httyd, I have a marauders au wip for it, but there is this thing about Sea Beast that just hits different and it’s that no side is inherently good in this fight, they have hurt and attacked each other but there still needs to be reconciliation to move on.

8. Chronicle

My absolute favourite superhero film, it’s about these three guys who accidentally get these telekinesis like powers and the whole thing is filmed from this one guys video camera, or like news cameras, it’s so fucking cool! (I do have some critiques for this film, it’s definitely not perfect but it was the first superhero film I watched where I was like OHH I get it!!)

9. The Iron Giant

I've been thinking about how someone could probably, credibly argue that what they did with x-men green, and somewhat with the feminist themes in marauders, Duggan has presented an alternative to the vapid centricism that's frequently present in marvel comics. Like, what he writes isn't a both sides thing, it isn't respectability and civility - this is characters taking radical action.

This imaginary argument has entranced me and I'm just going to ramble about it

Fundamentally, I think this doesn't work as a defence of this writing. For a start, it's bad anyway. Like, the issues with the structureless self-indulgent blob of a story that is Marauders 2019 don't go away if you somehow manage to salvage the politics of it. Secondly, the "white feminist" vibes of Marauders are still not resolved by this defense. The fact that the series goes out of its way to retcon in victimhood of wealthy, villainous white women while ignoring the canon abuse of the queer men in the cast, while sidelining the poc and being just shamelessly "girl boss" in the least appealing way... that's all still true, yeah? Yeah. Yes, it is.

But like I've said before (I think?), if you enjoyed the feminist themes of the series, then great! Like, I'm glad you had a good time. Not everything has to be politically perfect to still have positives. Similarly with the eco-terrorist fantasy of X-Men: Green. If it works for you, go nuts.

But obviously, it didn't work for me.

I think the problem stems with the portraying of violence and specifically how it is framed in the story. So, the duggan-written x-men: green story centers around Nature Girl and Curse killing random men who are employed in industries that harm the environment. These killings are presented as triumphant moments, albeit dark ones. And at the end of the run, Krakoa itself (and Doug) is like "dw babes you did nothing wrong." But no. They're just killing random dudes and failing to help anybody.

It's not radical leftwing action, it's the vapid centrist idea of what radical leftwing activism is, right? They are literally being the "villain who has a good point but kills people so I guess he's bad", but being framed as the hero. The actual problem (i.e. presenting those who would try to bring about urgent change as inherently dangerous) is still there. So, yeah. I really don't think this would hold up as a defence of (duggan's run of) x-men green, because ultimately it buys into the same bullshit dichotomy.

Marauders has a similar problem, although it's less central to the story. Emma and Kate's "epic" takedown of Shaw is really brutally violent and entirely one-sided (for reasons that make no sense but whatever. It's not how his powers work. Plot hole. Ding.) and leaves him one-eyed and requiring a wheelchair to move. This is drawn out over several issues. And yes it does read as staggeringly ableist. The use of a wheelchair as punishment? It's just... I...

Duggan in general has an issue with the framing of violence in his stories. Elsewhere in Marauders, he has Bobby freeze a room full of guys, seriously hurting them, out of revenge/protectiveness over Kate. Which is fine as a dramatic moment, it's in character. But then later, one of those guys confronts him about how he literally froze his arm off and Bobby is like "wevs". That's weird, that's a weird way for a person to feel about that. Later, he has Bobby picking fights with random ice giants and presents it as fun and triumphant but no...? Starting fights on purpose? That's just a dick move. Or in X-Men, the controversial "Lorna puppeteers Laura's body" thing. It's clearly supposed to be comedic, but he draws it out over an entire comic and it just feels gross and nasty. Duggan is bad at framing violence in his stories. It's partly just forgetting that in-universe, the violence is real and has real consequences (so people should actually care more), and partly a problem imparting tone (things that are supposed to be fun don't feel fun).

So, the problem isn't really that our heroes (Kate and Emma) are being violent, but specifically the portrayal of it. It's presented as wholly triumphant and fun, when what we're being shown is really kind of rough. It's the tone problem. But if you were to interpret this as a radical feminist (like, "radical and feminist" not, like, "radfem") statement, then it's just nuts. Is this how we solve misogyny? No, obviously not. Like, this isn't a solution to anything and it just makes stuff worse.

So, the obvious thing to say here is that, well, the imaginary person I'm arguing against and I are both making the same mistake here. Neither of these stories are manifestos. They're exploitation stories. It's revenge fantasy. It's not a recommendation for action but rather an expression of anger at the system. This is true and tbh it's a very good point.

I think that exploitation (especially sexploitation) revenge narratives are really hard to get right. It's a delicate thing in general, and very subjective. Something might work amazingly for one person and be just offensive and awful to someone else. I, personally, don't find comfort in violent fantasies very often. It's not that I don't have those thoughts so much as they usually make me feel worse. But there are plenty of these types of stories that I do like, so idk maybe this is one of those times where it isn't working for me, but could be working well for someone else.

However, I do think the points about how violence is presented and framed are still relevant. What makes a revenge fantasy satisfying is really feeling the heroine's pain, feeling that her actions are justified, and being able to watch and enjoy without thinking "no, that's actually pretty nasty."

And, just circling back to what this was originally about, if you're not showing radical leftist action as actually doing anything good, then you're not doing a good job at endorsing it.

You weren't even a twinkle in your parent's eyes when this Fandom started. You do not get to claim it as yours. This is our baby. We nurtured and tended to it until it became what it is today and like fuck are you going to take it from us.

It was three on a Tuesday and Sirius was near comatose at the counter. They’d had one customer in the shop all day, a fifty-something bloke looking for a Jefferson Starship record. Once found he proceeded to lecture Sirius on classic rock for the better part of an hour. Apparently, the man thought him completely ignorant of any bands at all. Despite the fact that he was wearing an Eagles t-shirt and worked at a bloody record shop. Not that he was surprised. Every man over thirty-five came in to see a man in his mid-twenties and assumed he must know nothing but Green Day and Foo Fighters. At this point, he was used to it, but that didn’t mean it made his exasperation with it all lessen.

“How’s it going down there, Black Dog?” His uncle called down from the upstairs that doubled as the man’s apartment and employee break room. Sirius couldn’t keep from grinning at the familiar nickname. Alphard had been the one to introduce him to classic rock in the first place. When his parents had been too busy to deal with him and his brother they’d come to the record store to spend time with their uncle.

He couldn’t have been more than four when he began grabbing records from the man’s collection upstairs, choosing them by the pretty art at first. The blond man, who he later learned was his uncle’s partner Nicholas, was always all too happy to man the shop for a while as he indulged his nephew’s newfound love for the music of their youth.

Nick had always found the fact that they were all named after constellations fascinating. It was that connection and Sirius’ particular fondness for Led Zeppelin that had dubbed him Black Dog. A name that stuck well through his teens and into adulthood. Black Dog was as much his name as Sirius at this point. It never failed to make him smile.

“I’ve seen legislation passed faster.” He groaned. The other man laughed at his joke. It was well known that their family had a distaste for both his and his Uncle’s career choices. Blacks were known for going into politics or becoming solicitors at the very least. His mother, father, and brother were all involved with it in one way or another. Fortunately, the idea of having a son without a uni degree compelled his parents to pay for it regardless.

Sirius didn’t regret his choice in the slightest. Music had always been his passion, and one his uncle had always indulged. Alphard was peering at him from the stairs. He’d moved just low enough to keep him in his line of sight.

“Nick is whipping up a batch of cinnamon scones now. I’ll bring you a few when they’re done.” In his younger years, his partner had been the pastry chef at multiple Michelin star restaurants. They often benefited from his penchant for baking when bored.

“Life may be worth living,” Sirius responded, completely missing the tinkling of the bell from the front of the shop. His uncle hadn’t. A sly smile crossed his face as he glanced across the room. Eyes flicking back to his nephew he replied.

“Perhaps there’ll be another soon enough.” The man winked, familiar grey eyes shining with mischief before disappearing back upstairs.

“Wha?” He tried to ask, shaking his head at his uncle before turning back to the store.

Sirius wasn’t sure what he might have expected to find when he glanced across the space, but this wasn’t it. A man in a dark brown cardigan had his back to him. His hair hung in sandy brown half curls that looked soft in the warm light. Even from across the store he could tell the man was a virtual giant. Sure, Sirius was shorter than your average bloke, a fact his best friend James loved reminding him of, but this man had to be well over six foot tall. He wanted to get a closer look though. It took him far too long to remember he worked at the bloody store and had every reason to approach the man.

“So… Do you come here often?” Sirius said, mentally berating himself for the cliché pickup line.

“Uh no, actually.” The other man laughed. His head was still downturned, long tan fingers rifling through the albums in the centre rack. The dexterity with which he did so did very unfortunate things to Sirius. Especially since he was at work, in the record shop, where his uncle was currently upstairs and well within earshot. “I had a friend tell me about this place, and I thought I’d check it out.” Finally, the man turned to glance at him. Sirius’ eyes went wide at the sight.

His lips were plush and a deep pink, one corner cocked up in amusement. His nose was almost button and utterly too adorable for Sirius’ good. The silvery band of a scar that ran across it just added to the urge to know this man inside and out. It was his eyes that were the real knockout. They were a shade of dark green, the kind of green that reminded him of warm summers spent in the countryside or his favourite jumper. He couldn’t be sure, but he thought he saw flecks of gold or perhaps amber filtering through them. It was as if they glowed in the light and Sirius was desperate to lean in and examine them closer. Swallowing hard he attempted to cover his instant attraction to this man.

“Is there something I can help you find?” Sirius could tell his voice was a bit strained. Fortunately, the other man didn’t seem to notice, or perhaps he didn’t care. Sure, he had no doubts that he was attractive, but there was no guarantee this guy was into blokes. He prayed to deities he had never been certain existed, that he was though.

“Yeah, actually.” Fuck. He’d been so distracted by the man’s appearance that he hadn’t really registered his voice. It was a smooth baritone that flooded his senses in the way that Alphard’s records had when he was a child.”I was looking for a Steve Miller Band record.” He had the faintest Welsh accent, the vowels leaving his tongue like music. Sirius was reminded of a much fitter Tom Jones.

“Oh, yeah, no, you’re in the completely wrong place for that.” He said, whipping around and making his way deeper into the store. “That’s where we keep all of the newer albums, anything from the naughties onwards.”

“Ah, well that would make sense.” He laughed behind him. The sound sent shivers up his spine, and he was glad he could play it off while walking.

“This is the section you want.” Sirius came to a stop in front of an enormous back wall. There were framed and signed classic rock records hung above a multi-tiered record holder. It ran from the staircase to the wall, wrapping around toward the counter. They truly did have the best collection in all of London, a fact his Uncle, and okay maybe Sirius too, was proud of.

“Woah.” The man’s eyes went huge as he took the setup in. “That’s quite the inventory you have here.”

“This isn’t even all of them.” Sirius laughed, thinking of the storage room where they kept the particularly expensive records. It took Sirius by surprise when the other man smiled at him. Not the half-smirk before, but an actual grin. His abdomen fluttered in a way he decidedly was not letting happen. Instead, he did his actual job “So do you want a specific album, or..?”

“Oh, yeah, sure.” He could have sworn he’d seen a slight flush to the man’s cheeks, but put that down to wishful thinking. “I was hoping you’d have a copy of “The Joker”.”

“I know we have at least one copy, but my uncle stocked it so we may have to dig for a bit.” Sirius fought a smile at having an excuse to spend more time with the mystery man. “You take that line, and I’ll look through this one.”

“Sounds like a plan.” He put on a jokingly solemn expression that had Sirius laughing despite himself. The other man let out an amused huff but turned toward his stack of records.

Unfortunately, or if he was honest with himself, which he steadfastly attempted never to be, quite fortunately, the two lines of records were quite close together. It was great for someone browsing alone. For two, however, it was close quarters. The cardigan covered arm of the other man brushed lightly against his bare one. At first, he’d assumed it was an accident, but then it happened again, this time staying in contact in some way. He bit his lip trying to keep his focus on the records and not the slide of the other man’s arm against his. Even through the garment, he could feel the radiating body heat and Sirius wanted to roll around in it like the dog his uncles had nicknamed him. This close he could smell the woodsy scent rolling off him. There was a faint hint of books, but the exceptionally old kind his parents had kept in the library of his childhood home. Somehow for once, the reminder didn’t make him want to bolt for the nearest exit. Contrarily, it made him want to press as close as possible, to claim the smell as his own. Christ, maybe he was a dog.

Sirius concentrated on the records instead, flicking past the Sex Pistols, The Smiths, and Stereophonics. At least he was at the st’s.

Remus opens up a tattoo parlor in Diagon Alley. He's done some research on basic charming for the designs, but has some he doesn't want to try out on his regular clients just incase. Sirius loves being his tester, which has resulted in quite a few tattoos (That Remus would love to trace with his fingers, tongue, and well anything Sirius would let him really). It's great, but it also means he's running out of room. Remus has come across some odd runes that he is pretty sure are meant to make the tattoo guaranteed not to fade, but he's not positive. Sirius decides he wants a wolf and dog baying at the moon on his hip, which means he has to take off his pants and use towel to try and cover. There's a lot of fumbling trying to keep from touching Sirius' cock, which just so happens to be making itself more obvious with each touch of the needle. (What can I say, he's a masochist and it's Remus afterall.) Both men are panting by the time he finally finishes tracing the last rune in invisible ink, but it doesn't have the effect either thought. A quick burst of pain has him gripping his own hip, working down his bottoms just enough to see the top of the very same tattoo he's just inlaid in Sirius' pale skin. Sirius, who has always been better at runes than Remus looks over the book and realizes the tattoo wasn't bound to his skin permanently but bound them to each other. And well, was that really so bad?

Innocent Physical Contact and I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On Perciver (Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood)

Ooookay. First time thinking about this ship, but I'm excited so let's go. It's their 5th or 6th year and they've been the only two sharing their dorm just them since their first year, but things have gotten tense. Percy has tried to stay out of the dorm as much as possible and Oliver can't figure out why. He comes back from quidditch practice one day early because there was some issue or another and surprises Percy who had memorized his schedule. Percy has gay panic and makes to leave but Oliver stops him in the doorway with his hand on his chest. He demands that Percy tell him what's going on and after some very intense yelling Percy finally admits that he's pretty sure that he has a crush on him and the sight of him in that Quidditch uniform does things to him. Oliver definitely didn't think about what his uniform might do, but is very pleased with this revelation so takes it as a win and just kisses him. Okay we're gonna have a fun time today because I am fucking enraged. It's clear that people have no clue what polyamory actually is or how a HEALTHY poly relationship works. I'm not just talking a triad, because outside of fiction those are fairly rare. Since apparently the cishets control the narrative I think it's about time I cleared some shit up. The key to polyamory is communication. THAT DOES NOT MEAN CHEATING AND SAYING IT'S FINE BECAUSE "Hey I'm poly"! There's a certain fic that tries to excuse this behavior and honestly I'm disgusted that it's so fucking glorified. That is NOT polyamory. That is cheating, plain and simple. If you want to write that that's fine, but call a spade a fucking spade. Don't you dare use a healthy and valid relationship choice to excuse your character's bad choices.

As a member of the queer community you should fucking know better. You wouldn't say being Bi or Pan is a reason to allow cheating, and if you would get the fuck out. I am tired of putting up with bi and pan phobia in the queer community. The hets fuck us over enough as it is, why the hell would you add to it?

I am polyamorous. I am in healthy and consenting relationships. I am fucking valid and am not a cheater or greedy or any of the bullshit that you all seem to perpetrate. I am so fucking done with you using my life as an excuse for your shitty writing. Don't pit partners against each other, don't make them keep from working out their normal feelings so it's healthy, and for fuckssake DON'T TRY AND COVER INFIDELITY WITH POLYAMORY!
