something that fascinates me is how their numbers in the periodic table is boron with the atomic number 5 and nitrogen with the atomic number 7, it combines to form boron nitride (formula BN) and it's mostly used in high temperatures and is resistant to oxidation (the lost of electrons, take a friendship falling apart for example... the important parts how the friendship formed and the memories fading away, like oxidation. in also which kimi and seb has never lost eachother in their whole years of friendship in f1) and is chemically stable also SOME structures of boron nitride is w-BN (wurtzite boron nitride) and c-BN (cubic boron nitride) and c-BN is extremely hard (like how their friendship never breaks, durability) AND w-BN is very rare, theoretically harder than diamond and is hard to synthesize

Random things i think Cybertronians would find adorable about humans~♡ Pt. 2
1. Us getting scared by small things
Humans jumping or screaming at a bug, sudden noise, or a scare prank would probably seem hilarious to the bots, who would be 100% amused by how easily humans can be startled. I bet MANY bots would take advantage of this when there would be a lil human on the lost light. Bots like Whirl, Trailbreaker sometimes Swerve that would like to scare the human despite them telling him not to.
Ya all know the vine video? With guy that goes: "Aaah stoop im gonna drop my criossant."
Yes that XDD
2. Us getting lost even with maps or GPS
I personally have terrible sense of direction and orientation (*p_q*) And some bots catching humans struggle with directions, even with GPS, would be both puzzling and funny to them. They always wonder how humans get lost so easily. But come on give the lialison a break the lost light is fucken HUGE.
3. Getting “hangry”
I mostly get tired when i'm hungry but when im also irritated i become hangry. I think bots would find humans getting irritable when they’re hungry both funny and perplexing to them who might see it as an amusing “malfunction” due to our a basic need.
4. Human body “glitches”
Hiccups, sneezes or random muscle twitches and similar reflexes would be entertaining to the bots, who’d find these involuntary responses both weird and amusingly unpredictable especially when we tell them that we can't control them. Get ready to be friendly bullied for this by some of the bots.
Human sitting over on Swerve's bar counter: *sneezes*
Whirl: What the frag was that sound? A sparkling's war cry?
Human: ( 。ớ︿ờ)
5. Collecting random souvenirs
Humans collecting small souvenirs, like seashells, keychains, or mugs from places they visit, would be amusing to Cybertronians, who might see it as an odd way of marking memories. Since from what i was reading in comics i didn't see any bots do this and i think they would find this pretty adorable. Almost like we materialize memories.
We are all like crows :3
6. Huddling for warmth
When humans instinctively huddle together or bundle up in thick layers when we're cold. Bots would simply find it cute amd definitively have to fight the yrge to just- squish-
Our need to find warmth and the cozy solutions we come up with would seem quaint and endearing (*´˘`*)
7. Gathering in groups for safety
The way we instinctively form groups, especially in unfamiliar or intimidating and scary situations would be both cute and a bit amusing to bots who might see it as humans’ way of finding strength in numbers despite their physical smallness. But we find great comfort in it ( *^艸^*)
8. Soothing or hugging each other in stress
When we instinctively comfort each other with hugs or reassuring words would be adorably puzzling to the bots, who’d find it endearing that humans can find peace in such small, gentle gestures. I bet a bot that is visibly sad would be pretty surprised when the human lialison comes up to them and just hug their servo and ask if they want to talk about it. It personally makes me happy when i can comfort and help someone in need ( 。ớ ᴗờ)
9. Making eye contact to connect
Humans instinctively make eye contact to establish trust or share feelings, which many bots would find very intimate, sincere and honest because it shows how deep the personal nature of human connection can go ( ⁎ᵕᴗᵕ⁎ )
(bots getting lost in human's eyes is one of my guilty pleasures)
10. Fighting for what’s important
We humans naturally stand up for our values, friends, and families, often driven by an instinct to protect or defend what we love. I think bots would find this fierce loyalty and bravery adorably noble for such a small species such as us. I even think that many would take us for an example in this (。>ㅅ<。)
11. Helping others instinctively
Cybertronians would likely find this endearing that humans instinctively help each other out—whether holding open a door, picking up dropped items, or offering support without being asked. This is the very nature that makes us human (*´▽`*)
12. Blushing when embarrassed or flustered
The way our cheeks turn pink or red when we're shy, embarrassed, or flustered would be extremely cute to the bots, who’d see it as a “giveaway” that adds to our vulnerability and the fact that we just can't hide our emotions makes us very emotionaly transparent is just straight up adorable.
13. The way the human brain is so simple
I personaly am very simple human being and i find many stupid and simple things funny and laugh at them. I think because of this many bots would find us very innocent and adorable
(。>▽<。)
AAAAARRRGH there's so many other things i wanna write but i decided to make part two of this bc i enjoy writing this stuff. Dis a good soup :33
(i might add a small masterlist to my pinned post :3)

Sylvia Feketekuty: "To celebrate DA day, I've made a bluesky account that I'll keep active for a few days to talk about my work on Inqusition or Veilguard! After a few days I'll lock the account, because I'm not a social media person. Happy to talk until then though. I want to say straight off: the reception to Emmrich, Manfred, the Mourn Watch, and the Grand Necropolis has been heartwarming for all of us who worked on those people and places. Thank you all very much!" [source, two]
Rest of post under cut due to length and spoilers. [Post Two, Post Three]
Sylvia Feketekuty: "In the meantime, I do want to talk about a couple of things I saw floating around regarding Emmrich: 1. Emmrich being 52 or 50. I think people got 50 from data mining a character file, but we can't do a ranges in those files. As in, I couldn't input 50-60, it had to be a whole number. I put down 50 as an early ballpark, then went more accurate in later audition scripts. 2. Fifty-two is a old number I threw into an early document before his art or character was totally final. (And which caused another developer a headache because they thought it was accurate, I never updated it. Sorry about that.) 3. "Wait, how old is Emmrich then?" Once I saw his final character art, I felt more mid to late 50s. MAYBE early 60s. But unless we specifically state a character's age in the game, it's all malleable. I honestly would just adjust it to your impressions unless stated otherwise. 4. I've also seen comments on how weird it is for Emmrich to act like there's an age-gap in the romance if your Rook is around his age. And you're right. 5. The reason is because Rook WAS younger when those scenes were written and worked on. I felt it'd be odd if I never addressed the May-December aspect, especially as it hooks into some of Emmrich's worries. 6. By the time that shifted, it was really too late to change without catastrophic repercussions to the excellent cinematics and music and other things that depend on line delivery and timing. 7. To be clear: you can feel how you want about the age gap coming up at all! But that's how the discrepancy came about. 8. "Is there a way to reconcile Emmrich acting like my Rook is way younger than him if they're not?" Great question! I have several suggestions: -Accept it's an error. (True, but unexciting) -Emmrich considers a gap of 3-5 years scandalous. (Funny, albeit a bit cartoonish.) -The Mourn Watch has perfected swapping out organs, and Emmrich is nervously hiding that he's way older than he looks out of vanity. (Untrue, but funny.)" [source thread]
User in reply to point 6. above: "I'm personally glad it was too late to change because their argument about it is genuinely my favorite scene in the entire game! 😭💕 It's such an important moment to me" / Sylvia: "Thanks! That one was one where I was all sweatily trying to balance things out, with tone, with pacing, etc. Really glad it came together for you. (Cine and the actors did heroic things there to get it feeling just so!)" [source]
More snippets:
Emmrich's favorite ice cream flavor? Rum raisin [source]
Lots of people on the dev team shared the vision of having a bunch of gothic weirdness in that pocket of Thedas [source] (Necropolis/Nevarra)
Sylvia "especially liked writing the Mourn Watch origin, it was fun to write a fellow nerd for Emmrich to chat with" [source]
Sylvia poured some personal worries and fears into writing Emmrich [source]
On Vorgoth and their nature: "I'm a little leery of saying anything, partly because I'm cowardly avoiding publicly defining anything more until/if I ever need to. And partly because I did want them to be a fresh unknown. Sorry!" [source] "I'm glad you like Vorgoth, but I'm afraid I don't have much for you that isn't in the game. I deliberately wrote them so as to leave room, if we ever revisited them, or for Vorgoth to remain mysterious, if we did not. I'm sorry if that's not a very satisfying answer!" [source] "I will say, it was fun to throw in a few lines about Vorgoth's art collection. Their passion for it is sincere and deep. (I wanted all the Watchers to have a little non-death related hobby or interest, because they can be so singularly focused.)" [source]
Dwarven Mourn Watcher is a rare origin combo for Rook so Sylvia wanted to call it out [source]
On the outcomes of Emmrich's quest: "I tried really hard to make the options equally viable, and more up to the player's interpretation or preferences of what it would mean for Emmrich in their view. It's been interesting seeing reactions to it, which hinge sometimes on various single lines pushing people one way or another!" [source]
"The Grand Necropolis is always eager and ready for a new member of the Mourn Watch to grace its ranks." [source]
User: "I loved Emmrich's view on death and what his personal quest ultimately went on to say about the nature of death itself, and how the beauty of mortality lies in its impermanence and unpredictability." / Sylvia: "I really wanted to dig into those themes, and everyone in cine and art and level design and editing and the whole team honed in exactly on the vibe. The floral stuff especially, I was so thrilled when I played through the Memorial Gardens' with the art and lighting in." [source]
User: "I experience thanatophobia and that first conversation w/ Emmrich was so affirming and helped me describe my own anxiety to others" / Sylvia: "Thanks, the thanatophobia was, as you may've guessed, a personal experience for me too. I'm glad it was something that helped a little." [source] "I suspect that phobia is way more common than people think, and part of the reason Emmrich talks about it was to express that sentiment out loud. I find it helps sometimes just to acknowledge it." [source]
What languages does Emmrich speak other than Trade? "I think he'd be familiar with Tevene, since there's surely many, many old texts about magic written in that language. Kind of like a doctor that knows latin through their work. I also named that MW alphabet "tomb-script", though I'm not sure if it has a spoken component or not since it never came up in-game. If it does, he'd be able to speak that for sure." [source, two]
User: "Playing as a Mourn Watch Rook has been an absolute delight!!!" / Sylvia: "Thank you so much, I really liked writing those branches of the dialogue. Since Emmrich's so focused on necromancy, it was fun having a Rook who could be both casual and knowledgeable about it." [source]
User: "In your opinion, what outcome do you prefer for a romanced Emmrich (lich/non lich)?" / Sylvia: "Interesting question! To be honest, I'm afraid to answer it properly in case anyone takes my answer to be a canonical one. I really wanted either path to feel equally interesting/correct for whatever you decide fits your Rook's relationship with Emmrich. (We're also in the strange waters of meta-reasoning. I GAVE Emmrich his fear of death-Sorry Emmrich!-which makes me feel a little culpable for that, even though he's entirely fictional. And that might prey on my mind when trying to decide. A very odd experience!)" [source, two]
What music genres would Emmrich be into? "Classical music is very much playing to type for Emmrich, but I feel it's also correct. He'd enjoy a nice concerto or an organ recital. Or, if he's feeling daring, a bold new Orlesian opera! But I don't think his tastes are too outré in that area. That said, I saw someone post something like "Leave Emmrich alone, let him attend the Depeche Mode concert" while listening to Depeche Mode's "Violator", for the first time, which made me laugh. (Great album. If he could get over the shock of synths, Emmrich might enjoy "Waiting for the Night".)" [source, two]
When writing Emmrich the devs wanted to try and hit the gothic romance vibe [source]
Does Emmrich mix his own fragrance/cologne? Does he ever vary it by the season? "I think Emmrich goes to some of the many perfumers that have set up shop in Nevarra City around the Necropolis, just because he trusts their judgement and expertise. I hadn't considered him varying it by season, but that's very fun! I certainly think he has more than one bottle of scent." [source]
User: "How does Lich Emmrich have sex?" / Sylvia: "I don't mind the question! But my answer's a bit boring: I generally stay at arm's length on the more explicit romance stuff, just because if it's not stated or shown in-game, I don't want to bring in a canonical answer that might affect what people imagined. My general preference for romantic scenes that get physical is to leave blank space somewhere, so players can imagine what happens next. It's not the ONLY way to do it, I think there's legitimate artistic reasons to go more explicit. But that's how I approached Emmrich (and before him Josephine.)" [source, two]
User: "The scene with the fade glow where he touches your hand haunts me in the best way" / Sylvia: "Aw thank you. Our animators and audio people made that scene way better than I could've hoped! They took such care with everything there. I want to say that little eye-peep from Rook was added in by one of them, which was the perfect touch." [source]
User on Emmrich: "i’m curious whether you think he’d prefer dogs or cats (or both, or neither)" / Sylvia: "I think he'd consider cats and dogs a little too noisy and messy for his tastes. Not like a nice, quiet plant or skeleton! (Weirdly, I actually had a scrap of banter going over this exact subject at one point. It got tightened down to the exchange with Harding about the pig he used to hug when he was a kid.)" [source, two]
Sylvia was trying to tease Nevarra with the Tevinter Nights story Down Among the Dead Men [source]. "It was really fun to tease the Necropolis, so to speak, in TN, and I'm grateful we got to actually let players through its gates at last." [source]
User: "if Rook chooses to save Manfred and keep Emmrich mortal, what would Emmrich wish to become of his body once he did pass on?" / Sylvia: "Good question. I think he'd want to remain active and useful in death. A guide for other Mourn Watchers, or posted as a mystic guide somewhere dangerous, or perhaps an oracle in the library." [source]
User: "when and how was it decided that Emmrich would be romanceable? I remember reading that he would not be a romance option." / Sylvia: "I'm not sure where that came from, because I pitched him and then shortly after that we decided the entire cast was romanceable. That was fairly early on in the development of Veilguard, as I recall it. (Could've been a crossed wire?)" [source]
Trick Weekes: "Sylvia wrote the fantastic Emmrich "the Vol-carnage" Volkarin and everything that happens in Nevarra while dealing with a lead writer whose attitudes about corpses and undead are... not dissimilar from Taash's." [source] / Sylvia: "I still remember when you gave the very accurate feedback "I think we need to give players whose Rooks aren't into corpses some roleplaying choices to express this" and I was all "Ohhh yeaaaaaah." (Thank u Trick, you were right)" [source] / Trick: "Specifically, being able to express this without locking themselves out of the content! (For non-Sylvia folks) Given my issues with corpses, Emmrich as a whole was SUPER Not For Me, so I gave one caveat and then said, "For the rest of my critique, I will be impersonating his target audience." [source]
Sylvia on the secret origins of Manfred: "After I pitched Emmrich, I started jotting down notes and thoughts on his plots, his quirks, all that kind of stuff. It was very early on Veilguard, anything was still possible. We were chatting in the writer's room about it one day, and I think we'd just seen some early concept art for Emmrich. And our lead writer Trick Weekes joked that Emmrich looked like a man who'd have a skeleton named Manfred. And I laughed and went "Yeah he does!" And then I thought about it. It's wild in retrospect, but that one comment spurred a train of thought that led to the core of Emmrich's arc. He may've ended up a very different character without it! tl;dr: I stole it from Trick." [source, two, three, four]
"I got to play with a pretty free palette when defining the way Emmrich and the necromancers view death and spirits. But I tried to keep it within the confines of existing lore. That's one reason why that scene where Emmrich talks about Manfred to Harding goes into "the eternal question" of whether a soul actually returns with the dead or not. Nevarra has distinct beliefs, but I thought it'd be interesting if its people argue over their interpretations of those beliefs." [source, two]
"the other writers also suggested a bit later on that the big choice dig more into Emmrich's philosophies. Initially, it was more personally focused on his fears, which made it 'relatable' but pettier. Without that correction, I think it would've been weaker, I totally needed the team push." [source]
"I have a few guides to graveyard symbology, and it's so packed with references and meaning." [source]
User: "Did any of your own fears & experiences, make it into the writing of Emmrich? If yes, is it information you’re comfortable sharing with us? If it’s too personal to give any details, that’s fine as well. Also, across the other games, who do you think Emmrich will get along with best?" / Sylvia: "some of his fears are absolutely personal. The reflexive-compulsive panic over death is something I'm very familiar with, and I wanted to explore that through him. Because I suspected it was not uncommon, and worth examining. The question of who he'd get along with from the other games is surprisingly tough! Because without asking the other writers about their characters, I wouldn't know for sure. So I can only really speak to Josephine with surety. That said: -I think Josephine would be polite, and grow to like him, but would never entirely be over the ostentatious necromancy. -I think Emmrich meeting Sera would be the funniest match." [source, two, three]
"Peter Cushing was also one of my go-tos as an example of what I wanted Emmrich to be." [source]
"(Huge shout out to all the animators and level designers making Manfred run, quite literally. Like 95% of his personality lives in his movement, I think they nailed it.)" [source]
On Emmrich: "I tried to put a lot of passion and sincerity in his love for the dead, and I admit the Necropolis was THE big place I wanted to see in Thedas myself ever since reading about it in a codex." [source]
User: "Thank you for letting him have that cemetery dream date!" / Sylvia: "Having the date in the cemetery was one of the first things I wanted when thinking about the romance." [source]
"Josephine was the first time I was entrusted with a new character and a new romance at once, and that'll always be special to me." [source]
User: "How much input did you have in Emmrich's appearance in the podcast?" / Sylvia: "In the podcast, none myself. I believe it was handled by a third party but reviewed by a few people at BW, I don't know too much past that. (We did provide a descriptor and character rules. Stuff like "Emmrich never swears" and "always says amongst" and broader, more thematically useful things.)" [source]
User on Emmrich: "Are you planning any other external-media stories for him?" / Sylvia: "Thanks very much, The Flame Eternal has a special place in my heart for being the first time Emmrich got to be center stage in a story. (And very flattering to hear about the cross stitch. That's so cool!) I can't speak to any external-media plans, I'm afraid. That's not an implied hint about anything existing or not, it's just literally outside what I'm allowed to chat about. It'd be fun to do something like that again though!" [source, two]
"I must give full credit to Nick Borraine, Emmrich's voice actor. He got the compassion and tenderness the character needed right away." [source]
"And glad him being closer to your age resonated, I really wanted someone older out on an adventure. No reason that has to stop at any age IMO." [source]
User: "do the mourn watcher/nevarra in general raise their pets after they die to keep them around? like a dog skeleton with a whisp in it?" / Sylvia: "To be honest I hadn't thought out this one, but it's a very good question. I'm not sure how common that would be, or even if it's permitted to have pets running around the family crypt. (I definitely thing people would WANT to do it.) You know, I think I'm going to have to leave this one in the vague quantum foam of the future. I think I'd want to not only double check existing lore, but answer that in-game (or in a book or etc.) if we ever need to. (Hope that's not too much of a cop out. Sometimes I like to leave questions I'm not sure about alone, because until it's in an official game or story, it doesn't quite count.)" [source, two, three]
User: "as someone who shares emmrich's anxiety about mortality, getting to spend time with him, and in the grand necropolis and with the mourn watch, was genuinely soothing" / Sylvia: "Thank you, I'm glad he was a comfort. It's a familiar fear for me too, and I'd hoped he would connect that way with people very much." [source]
On the giant ribcage 'ceiling' in the Necropolis: "sadly, even I don't know all the mysteries of the Necropolis. (Which is to say it's a very cool bit of art but has no stated origin yet. Could be a large dragon, a giant...or something weirder!)" [source]
On TN story Luck in the Gardens: "It was nice change up, writing in first person and with someone so rascally. I've got an enduring affection for the Lords after writing Hollix, the scamp." [source]
User: "I just love his genuine enthusiasm for everything he does. If the other party members had fan clubs Emmrich would be the president of each and I love that for him" / Sylvia: "Thank you! I really wanted him to embody a kind of expansiveness and generosity of spirit, to stand in contrast to the eeriness of his abilities." [source]
User: "What was your inspiration for Josie?" / Sylvia: "My girl! When I came on to Inquisition, there'd already been work done on setting up the spine of the main plot, and figuring out the overall cast. But one of the advisors was a little murkier. It just said "Diplomat" on the white board. We knew we wanted someone in that position, but not who. So in a game where you were out exploring, killing demons, etc., but also had a big organization to run? I immediately wanted to make a Diplomat firmly there for you. Somebody you could hand the keys to the entire Inquisition to while you were out, and know it'd be in good hands. I also thought it'd be fun to have someone from Antiva, since that area wasn't covered yet by anyone in the cast. And I needed her to be polished, smooth, but heartfelt, because of that aforementioned trust. And that was the core of Josephine! Her voice actor, Allegra, brought her to life with such lovely charm, and hearing those early sessions also helped me further hone her tone." [source, two, three, four]
"Our music supervisor Ron Dazo hit it out of the park with Emmrich's music IMO. And so glad you liked Hezenkoss! Just very fun to write as a character." [source]
User: "Did any specific watcher raise MW Rook?" / Sylvia: "Good question! I kind of left that one alone because I wasn't sure if I wanted to let Rook define that themselves, or leave it open, and also I'd have wanted a full conversation on it. In the end that was a little out of scope so I left it unsaid. Which is to say that it COULD be Vorgoth who helped raise your Rook. And that stands until/unless we give a definitive answer (or let you choose from a range of answers) one day." [source, two]
"It was such a pleasure for all of us to finally get to explore the Necropolis, I am very glad we got to throw open the gates." [source]
User: "I was wondering if there were any Mourn Watch details you wished you had more time to explore? I was so struck by some of the ethical implications in your stories" / Sylvia: "Geeze, now that's a question. I mention it with Emmrich, but there's some resentment over the power the Watchers hold as THE mortalitasi of the Grand Necropolis, between them and the other orders. There's something to that situation I liked. There's also questions of how they select people for the order. What their standards are, how closely they work with benign spirits. And how they cultivate those relationships. How deep does that go? I also mentioned in a codex "the lives and bodies of those who tamper with the undead of the Necropolis are forfeit unto the Mourn Watch." which is pretty chilling. What's that punishment like, exactly? And in general, writing about anything weird or unexplained in the Necropolis brought me much enjoyment, and it would be fun to dig around how the Mourn Watch deals with (or what they want out of) all these mysteries and entities." [source, two, three, four]
"Geeking out with Emmrich about spooky stuff was a delight to write." [source]
"I liked writing someone older this time, it was something different for me and rewarding in some unexpectedly different ways. (And thanks especially for the nice words on DAtDM - I was very excited to introduce people to the Mourn Watch there!)" [source]
"Ah, tomb-script. I named it but it was our concept artists who went developed it with the hexagon shape-language of the Mourn Watch, which I loved. Conceptually: I think it's used purely an occult or sacred language. Something for the graves, or books on magic, but not everyday things." [source]
"Some trans people kindly offered their help with some feedback on some of the romance lines and others, which absolutely made them much better." [source]
"Trick Weekes actually wrote a ton of the banter where Emmrich inquires into qunari artifacts and customs, and Taash talks about what it was like to grow up under a scholar. I really dig the dynamic they unearthed between the two there." [source]
User: "Do you remember what was written in the script to describe ✨this✨ moment? [link]" // Sylvia: "Lol. I miiiiiight? Let me look at my notes. Ah hah, I do! My note says that Emmrich "takes a second, surprised." And then he's touched afterwards." [source, two]
Sylvia: ""i hope it's not too late, but were there any designs in mind for what Nevarra City looks like?" Not too late! We've got a few sketches in the World of Thedas books, but that's it. If the team ever went back to Nevarra City proper, I'd imagine the art team would want to do a deeper dive." [source]
Sylvia: "(Glad you liked Myrna in particular. My first Mourn Watcher everyone got to know!)" [source]
Sylvia: "I'm glad to hear getting to know Emmrich has been of some comfort." [source]

TUTORIAL: HOW TO BUILD A UFO ROOF HOUSE.
yo! one of my friends asked me how I do this, so I thought I'd put together a little tutorial and share. here's a preview of what a "ufo roof house" might look like once you're done:
Tumblr media
this is just a little one I built in Strangetown on a 10×10 lot, read below to learn how to do this yourself.
→ Step 1: Build your foundation (if you want one) + your first floor. The easiest way to do this is to make your walls an octagonal shape with the diagonal walls being half as many as the straight walls. As an example, you can see in the image below my straight walls are 6 units, so the diagonals are 3.
Tumblr media
→ Step 2: Go up one level and lay a square of flooring for your roof to sit on, twice the size of your straight walls. My straight walls are 6 units, so my "roof square" will be 12×12.
Tumblr media
→ Step 3: Using the small cone roof tool, drag from one corner of your square to the other, minus 1 unit. My square is 12×12, so the cone roof will be 11×11. You can see in the image below where to place your cursor to start:
Tumblr media
→ When you're done with the small cone roof tool, it should look like this:
Tumblr media
→ Step 4: Delete the excess flooring. You can press F to toggle from a full square unit to a smaller, triangular unit to trim the corners. Unfortunately, you can't click and drag to remove the corners from the diagonal walls, you can only shift click to delete one triangle at a time, but it saves you from having to put down walls or fencing you're just going to remove anyway.
→ Step 5: Decrease your roof's angle. On my normal houses, I usually use a 25 degree angle, which in this case, looks like this:
Tumblr media
→ Step 6: You don't want your walls sticking out like this. So, adjust your roof's angle until they're not sticking out. The lowest I could get the roof's angle on this one was 39 degrees, which looks like this:
Tumblr media
→ Step 7: Much better! Don't worry about that spiky bit in the middle, because we're going to add a dome roof to cover it up. You can start fiddling around with the dome roof tool by using the same amount of units as your straight walls, or you can go smaller. A 6×6 dome on this house looks like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
→ I like my UFO domes a little smaller, so I went with 4×4. TIP! If you have an even number of straight walls, your dome will also be even, if it's odd, your dome will also be odd. If you had 7 unit straight walls for example, your dome could be 7×7, 5×5, 3×3, etc. Here's how my 4×4 dome turned out:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
→ Step 8: Nice! We're pretty much done! Decorate however you like!
Tumblr media
→ Step 9: Enjoy your UFO roof house! All content shown on this one is maxis, except for the deck support posts, which are default replacements available HERE, thanks to @psychosim! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Feel free to tag me if you make a UFO roof house because of this, I'd love to see it! 👽💖 Happy Simming!

OK. All the blogs in this special round 0 are under the cut. Every odd number is against the even below it. We'll see how tumblr feels about the bracket image this time, but I'm not posting it until this round 0 is over.
Due to not wanting to spam your feeds and also the tumblr post limit (there are 253 polls this round!), I will be spreading these out via the queue, posting 50 a day.

Set breakdown time! Next up: the boys' London office.
As before, I've circled the points of interest and numbered them to make them easier to talk about. Cool? Cool. Let's do this!
1: They have matching top hats. This is so charming I just can't even. Did they need them for a case, or were they just being silly? Either way, this is adorable.
2: They have their name properly in glass on the door. It seems to read "Dead Boy Detective Agency," though I'm not 100% sure on the final word.
3: An early/supernatural style of camera? Perhaps a pair of binoculars? Likely some sort of equipment for cases, at any rate.
4: One of these boys is fond of random eye décor, and it is so odd and funny. Love this for them.
5: Someone has a long coat and straw hat. My money's on Edwin, since that style of hat was popular in the Edwardian era.
6: They have matching… whatever these are? They look almost like wine bottles, but neither of them can drink, so I have no idea. If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to share.
7: The mirror they pop in and out of when they need to visit the office.
8: A volleyball, I think? Random sporting equipment of Charles', in any case. This seems to be distinct from the soccer ball he's playing with in the demon prep montage. It lives by the couch; it's also there in the scene when Crystal is napping in their office.
9: A single foosball stick, without the rest of the table, mounted up on the wall. Incredible.
10: Some sort of a framed certificate. I think it has their names on it, but it's very hard to see. If anyone has managed to get a better shot/decipher, please feel free to share.
11: A random ship in a bottle.
12: A taxidermy wolf's head. Boys. Boys, why.
13: So many board games. I can make out at least six editions of Clue, Aggravation, Yahtzee, a Ouija board, and Scotland Yard. The rest are all too blurry for me to read, but again, please do chime in if you're able to identify any of the others.
14: Last but absolutely not least, Charles has a tiny soccer ball in a posed wooden mannequin hand. Perfect. Amazing. No notes.

Odds of Survival Part 8
Per usual, the tf mecha au was spawned by @keferon
Prowl and the flyt he said he didn’t want: “It’s not an ESA, it’s a tool for detective work that runs on food and affection.”
Anyways why do pets always look like their owners?
———————————————————————
Prowl had approximately 6 breems before Elita finished cleaning her skull.
The tactician added 4 additional breems to account for time spent in adding the piece to her skull throne. On average, Elita One spent between 8 to 13 breems total on “personal art projects” as a way to unwind after intense battles.
As soon as Prowl was within comms range, he had sent an encoded message to Red Alert suggesting Breakdown intended to plant listening devices on the exterior of the Lost Light.
Nevermind the fact they were working on the same damn side.
That trick would keep the mech busy for at least 5 breem.
Typically, Prowl was the first to defend Red Alert as an invaluable head of security. His paranoia secured their defenses so well, security chief had completely countered every infiltration attempt by the Functionalists to date. That said, the price of privacy for their ship was Red Alert having a total monopoly on it instead.
The distraction was not only so Prowl could have a single minute of peace, but also to ensure the security officer did not interrogate an injured and highly unpredictable mech.
Because Jazz might actually give Red Alert a spark attack. (;7%)
Prowl tried to rub away the ache between his optics. Tacnet thrumming angrily with pent up, unfinished calculations. Most of which were completely defunct now thanks to the violator of numerical probability sitting in the medbay.
Jazz…
Fragging Jazz.
Prowl shut the door to his office. He could feel his helm getting warm again. He’d need to take what time he could to sort his processor before the logic cascades that had been accumulating since he found the mech became too much to manually keep on pause.
Luckily, the tactician had discovered a secret technique to unraveling Tacnet build up without requiring a constant cycling of industrial grade coolant.
Prowl unlocked the wardrobe-like habitat next to his desk.
A faintly cool breeze sighed from within, as the thawing process completed. Uncurling in response to the change of stimuli, a flyt woke from brumation to look at her praxian with bleary eyes.
“Hello Green.” Prowl eased a servo beneath the flyt. “we have much to discuss.”
As Green tucked herself against the ambient warmth of his frame, Prowl activated the large screen built into the adjacent wall.
“I met someone today.”
Tapping away, creating categories, connection points and theories arranged by probability, Prowl slowly filled the screen with a tree of possibilities.
All the while, conferring with Green to ensure his thoughts stayed at a conversational pace, rather than whirl through the labyrinth of his mind at breakneck speeds.
“-and then, he gave me his designation number, except it’s just a completely nonsensical string of seven numbers!”
Green squawked at the audacity of the mech.
“He did space out the numbers while reciting it. Two eight four, pause, four three four, pause, five five zero eight.” The praxian typed in the numbers, adding dashes where appropriate.
He muttered, mostly to himself, “This had better not be some sort of prank.”
As Prowl continued to verbally filter through his mental evidence locker, Tacnet finally straightened out the concrete math of the situation.
“Jazz is either an alien or a lost government experiment. Alien 57%, cybertronian 43%” The screen automatically supplied a pie chart, superseding several lesser graphs beneath it.
Prowl tilted his helm back and sighed, expelling all the hot air he’d holding behind locked vents at once.
Tacnet had finally. Finally, attached a precentiall figure to Jazz’s existence. The sheer relief of that knot untangling was better than any oil bath. Rolling his shoulders and neck, Prowl continued.
“There are two schools of thought regarding The Jazz Situation.” Prowl divided the board in two beneath the chart.
“The first, was that Jazz is a wholly alien mechanical lifeform, and it is through convergent design that he happens to closely resemble a cybertronian. Albeit with various physical abnormalities.”
Green squawked.
“Precisely. Until the language barrier is further overcome, we cannot rule out the second theory either. That Jazz is a creation of the Functionalists. It would account for the physical abnormalities while removing a significant amount of uncertainty the Alien Theory comes with.”
Prowl gathered a small bit of skitter. Green didn’t have much appetite immediately after waking, but the prospect of food still served as positive reinforcement for her “help”.
Ostensibly, caring for the flyt was supposed to take Prowls processor off of work. Jokes on his government assigned therapist, Green was a fantastic assistant and confident.
While he did care for his brothers, Smokescreen was explicitly unhelpful when Prowl latched onto something intellectually stimulating. Constantly cajoling him into going to bars or casinos or wherever else the elder Praxian considered “actually stimulating”.
And Bluestreak, meanwhile, was a mech physically incapable of keeping a secret.
“You don’t try to get me overcharged or tell everybody about the Mesothulas Incident.” The tactician cooed while scritching the underside of Greens beak.
Nevermind it was the same night.
Green trilled happily at the attention and praise, waking up more thoroughly.
“I’ll see about introducing you later. Jazz shows no discomfort concerning organics and I predict a strong likelihood he will appreciate your work.”
Just as Prowl was about to close the theory board, a comm came through, making him pause with a servo still hovering over the screen.
[VELOCITY]: Update about the patient for you sir.]
Speak not of Unicron lest he appears.
[PROWL]: Go ahead. Do you need me to come back to the medbay?]
[VELOCITY]: No, he’s not displaying any adverse behavior you warned me about. His common is very rough though and he’s definitely struggling to understand my questions and clearly articulate his answers. Outside of that, the patient seems fairly relaxed actually.]
Rough? Jazz had been making steady progress with his language acquisition. He should be capable of understanding and answering Velocity’s questions with 76% accuracy.
[PROWL]: He did suffer a helm injury, though I am certain you’ve taken that into account already.]
[VELOCITY]: I already ran a simple cognitive test and he passed without issue. I’d have to open his helm up to make sure, but he otherwise seems completely fine mentally.]
Prowl settled himself at his desk, tapping the surface absent mindedly.
[VELOCITY]: His other vitals are what concerns me however. By cybertronian medical standards, you brought me a talking corpse.]
Prowl stopped tapping.
[PROWL]: Elaborate.]
[VELOCITY]: The patient has no energon, no nanites, and no spark signature. He’s absolutely covered in the tiniest welds I’ve ever seen, which I should not be able to see if he had even 5% of the nanites a healthy mech should have.]
[PROWL]: Does he require more intensive medical treatment?]
[VELOCITY]: That’s a bit complicated to answer. He’s an alien so I’m not sure what his baseline for healthy is supposed to be. And if what you say about prior medical abuse is true, I don’t think he knows either.]
[VELOCITY]: He’s taking repairs like a champ so far. I can see he’s had a ton of previous repairs that all look clean and well executed despite being done without anesthetic.]
There are other kinds of avoidance than just physical aversion. Jazz is being compliant to get through the repairs quickly but faking confusion to avoid deeper medical questioning 88%.
[PROWL]: Unless it is to ask for consent for a procedure, you may desist questioning the patient for medical information. Rely on your own observations and expertise to form any pertinent theories.]
[VELOCITY]: Understood. The patient has turned down any deeper scans around his helm and chassis and I don’t want to push it on a first time check up. I’ve finished fixing his feet and the replacement part for his shoulder is almost done being machined.]
[VELOCITY]: I want to deal with his visor and helm sooner rather than later, but that’ll take a much more thorough scan to deal with. That’s all I have to update so far. His arm won’t heal on its own so I need to concentrate on rewiring the sensory network manually now.]
[PROWL]: Understood. Contact me immediately if anything changes.]
One more horrifying concept to add to the list. He was completely and utterly reliant on potentially manipulative doctors to fix even the most minute scraps and pains. No wonder Jazz had the pain tolerance of a Titan.
Prowl went to pull his data pad from subspace to update his Jazz Theory Board and stopped short with a full body cringe.
He gingerly took out Jazz’s missing shoulder and placed it on the table.
Prowl shuttered his optics.
The fact he forgot he had another mechs shoulder on his person was a testament to how badly he needed to defrag tonight. He briefly considered comming Velocity, but didn’t want to interrupt her operation on delicate wiring. Besides, if Jazz lacked a self repair system, then it wouldn’t matter if the piece was original or machine made.
It was such a fundamentally wrong concept, Prowl was unsure whether he’d prefer that to be Jazz’s natural state (51%) or a condition inflicted on him by whatever sadists created him (49%).
The tapping sound of beak on metal pulled Prowl back into the room.
“Green, do not.” He said sternly, lifting the flyt away from her object of fascination. She looked at him with pitifully wet eyes at the unhappy tone.
The praxians wings drooped. With some difficulty, Prowl attempted to project his EM field in something like “Your actions displeased me but I harbor no ill will towards your being. I am simply under a significant mental load and find the prospect of you attempting to eat a piece of someone’s body fairly distressing and ask that you discontinue that behavior and not act on any future impulses to put foreign objects in your mouth.”
What he got was a wobbly Meehm-blah-sorry-sad.
Flyts were supposedly capable of picking up on EM fields (12%). Prowl suspected Green was simply quite good at interpreting his body language and tone (88%).
In either case, Green responded by attempting to groom his plating, cooing softly. Organic EM fields were small and alien, but with practice and exposure one could begin to map one’s field to cybertronian equivalents. Green radiated a lightly brushing sympathy of sad and want-happy.
Prowl gave up on his field projection practice, and idly returned Greens affection with physical pets. If that damn therapist asked, he’d count it towards his quarterly goals.
That mech bothered him. Not just because he put limits on his workflow or for the one sided glaring contests Prowl would enact during their sessions. But because for the life of him Prowl could never remember his name. And that missing data point drove Tacnet crazy.
Everytime Prowl tried to investigate where the therapist even came from, something always came up distracting him from the task.
In a moment of determination, Prowl reached for his pad to look up his own therapists name on the ship’s registry and paused mid action.
The tactician turned his gaze back to the morbid weight resting on the desk.
His brow furrowed.
Lifting the piece closer (where Green couldn’t get at it), Prowl inspected something odd along the surface of the shoulder.
It looked like a row of staples protruding from the metal.
It looked like ladder rungs.
A frantic banging on Prowls door interrupted his introspection. He quickly subspaced the shoulder joint.
The indignant voice of Red Alert carried through the door, yelling to be let in immediately.
Prowl sent a few consecutive pings to clear the board, reduce interior illumination by 40% and then finally allow the chief of security entry.
Red Alert stumbled in through the sudden opening, plating misting off the residue frost formed by the chill of outer space. His optics darted rapidly around the dimmed interior, landing on the stone faced mech seated behind the desk.
Impassive and unreadable, the only signs the tactician was alive were the cold glow of his optics and the servo lightly stroking his pet. The flyts beady eyes bored into Red Alerts. Silent and unwavering.
Mouth suddenly dry, the mech was unable to form words.
The desired effect was achieved.
“I’ve been expecting you.” Prowl did not offer him a seat, as there was none to offer.
Red Alert got a hold of himself and puffed up his plating.
“Why is there an unauthorized mech on board this ship and why did I only hear about through gossip?!” Red Alert’s voice cracking the last word into a higher register.
“Jazz is authorized to be here. By me.” He offered Green a bit of skitter. “And by our captain. I found him stranded in open space after he fell out of a Quintesson gate tear.”
The smaller mech blanched slightly at the sight of an organic feeding. Prowl estimated the presence of Green would speed their meeting along by a factor of 120%.
“So you’re just bringing home random mechs then.” Red Alert flapped his arms at his sides. “How do you know he isn’t a Functionalist spy? Or a High Command spy? Or a third party spy?!”
Prowl raised a single digit. “One, Velocity has confirmed Jazz is absolutely an alien lifeform and not cybertronian in origin.” He held up a second digit. “And two, he fell out of a quintesson gate tear in the middle of empty space.”
Red Alert began to pace the room. “Okay fine. He’s not a plant for any cybertronian factions. How do you know he isn’t some kind of twisted Quintesson creation? Maybe he was created to infiltrate our ranks, and then a sleeper agent switch flips and he kills us all!”
“He is not a quintesson creation.” Prowl plainly stated to Red Alerts increasing exasperation.
“And how do you know that?!” Throwing his servos in the air.
“He likes music.”
Red Alert reset his optics. “Come again?”
Prowl cleaned off his servo with a rag in his desk, and played a low quality snippet of Jazz’s music that he’d managed to capture.
Red Alert startled at the sudden unfamiliar sound.
When actually was the last time any of them had heard new music? Before the civil war at least.
Prowl continued, “Quintessons do not value nor comprehend alien aesthetics. Their culture revolves around expansion and material acquisition and whatever may qualify as “art” to them does not equate to our understanding of it. They have absolutely no records of partaking in sound based recreation nor of collecting samples from other cultures.”
The snippet cut short. “Simply put, quintessons don’t know good music. Jazz does.”
Red Alert was loosing steam, but still had one more point to contend with.
“Isn’t just too improbable though?” Hands on the desk, leaning as close as he dared. “That out of the entirety of the universe, Jazz just so happened to pop out exactly next to the shuttle you were riding on, conveniently alone, unconscious, unharmed AND he gets picked up by high ranking decepticon?” For once, it looked less like Red Alert was fighting him, rather than pleading with him.
Prowl tilted his helm slightly, “You are correct. The odds are unfathomably low. So low in fact, it is nearly statistically impossible to achieve such a scenario on purpose.”
Quintesson gates were finicky. They had a margin of error the breadth of planets. That was also usually their targets however, and quints weren’t picky where they touched down.
“But-“
“But what? I have addressed every concern you have presented.” Prowl flared his doorwings. “I found a lost mech of a new alien species that may very well be an invaluable ally in the war against the quintessons. It’s a valuable opportunity.”
Red Alert balled his fists, fear manifesting as a last burst of rage. “It’s a trap! It’s an Oil-Pot! It is so obviously a purposeful manipulation when you look at it from the outside!”
The security officer began counting on his digits, “Step one! Put a handsome mech somewhere in need of saving so the target feels like they’re in control and the hero. Step two! Ramp up the flirting and the codependency, they need you so you stay in touch and start giving in to more of their requests. Step three! The Oil-Pot gets you alone somewhere under false pretenses where they SPLIT OPEN YOUR PROCESSOR AND SCRAPE IT FOR SECRETS!”
Red Alerts fans blasted hot air around the room. The mech challenging the Praxian for whatever excuse he had this time.
Prowl stood. Taking his time to return Green to her habitat.
“What am I most known for?”
For not the first time since entering his office, Red Alert was knocked off balance.
“I..uh. Math?” He stammered. Knowing the answer but not wanting to say it.
Prowl lacked that reservation.
“Any spy worth their shanix would have done their research thoroughly before even attempting such a scam. If one were to sift through information on me organized by Decepticons, the most prominent word would be Efficient.”
Prowl leisurely shook out Greens cloth-mop nest of any remaining ice crystals.
“If they sourced their information from the Functionalists, that description would include the word Ruthless.”
Prowl gave the flyt one last scritch before closing the door.
“Other popular words I’ve cataloged in relation to my name include Cold, Severe, Sparkless, Unfeeling and Merciless.” The smaller mech shrunk a little with every addition.
Prowl stepped around the desk in the dimly lit room to stand directly before Red Alert, servos clasped behind his back. “With this information available, any spy would be an idiot to attempt an Oil-Pot against me specifically. Ask nearly any mech aboard this ship if they think I’d go out of my way to save a stranger for no apparent benefit and they’d tell you No.”
Red Alert fiddled with his servos, torn between a nervous tick and the pressure to be professional. “If that’s all true, then.”
He chanced a glance at Prowl face, which gave away nothing. “Then why did you save him?”
“Because they are wrong.”
The room brightened back to normal levels, as Prowl sent a ping first to the lights and then to open his office door. He held out a servo, gesturing to the exit.
“Until further notice, Jazz is to be treated the same as a rescued non combatant. He will be kept under observation but not interrogation. We can work out the details at a later-“
[VELOCITY]: Jazz is gone.]
Prowl closed his servo. His doorwings twitched once. Red Alert tensed.
[VELOCITY]: I just finished the last repair and when I turned around he disappeared from the medbay. The guards outside didn’t see him.]
Prowl marched out the door, pulling Red Alert along in the direction of the security office. “I require your assistance immediately, as Jazz is currently loose somewhere on the ship, unmonitored.”
The tactician endured the security chiefs well earned tirade the entire way. Prowl kept a steely grip on the situation, only barely convincing Red Alert not to raise every alarm on the premise that Jazz would be easier to find if he didn’t think they were looking for him.
Tacnet stubbornly held onto the 56% saying Jazz was experiencing a delayed negative reaction to his medical care and was acting out of fear.
A steadily growing percentage screamed sabotage in a voice annoyingly similar to Red Alerts.
Said mech was almost cheery with vindication, in between vehemently describing every way the Lost Light could explode with the next few breems.
Red Alert worked fast. Sifting through the camera feed at a dizzying speed. A camera caught Jazz quickly slipping out of the medbay. Barely escaping the notice of the two mechs tasked with keeping watch. Prowl noted their designations for later scathing admonishment.
“The port side door lock is time stamped as malfunctioning just before Velocity discovered Jazz’s disappearance. It looks like the lock experienced an extremely localized electromagnetic pulse, putting it in Safe Mode.”
Red Alert switched the camera feeds on the main screen. “After he rounds this corner he just vanishes. I can’t find him anywhere on my system.”
Prowl nodded. “Good. Then I know exactly where he has to be.”
There were very few places to hide upon the Lost Light. Red Alert made certain of that. Which by extension meant that someone desperate to stay out of any camera views would have an extremely limited amount of space to operate in.
That space would normally be un-traversable, unless the mech in question was in possession of incredibly powerful magnetic augments, allowing them to crawl along the ceilings.
Prowl sent out a flurry of comms, updating Elita and calling in trusted reinforcements. He set out down the hall.
[PROWL]: What rooms aboard this ship do you not have any cameras inside of?]
[Red Alert]: The war room. The Captains quarters, your office, the therapists office and the operating theater.]
[PROWL]: There’s a camera in my berthroom?]
[Red Alert]: I mean. It’s not like you use it?]
Prowl consistently removed any bugging attempts in his office. Half the reason he kept Green in there was to deter Red Alert from trying. The other half was because he legitimately spent more time there than in his quarters.
He mentally crossed off his office, Elita’s quarters, the operating theater and the therapists office from the list as each one had someone inside at the time of Jazz’s disappearance.
All that left was the war room. Windowless, minimalist and with only once entrance, Jazz would be cornered like an animal in a trap.
Prowl gathered several of the least impulsive guards he could summon on short notice. Lining them along the hallway, he ordered them to shoot to disable. Prowl added that he would make an attempt to talk the mech down before escalating further.
If Jazz was spec ops (44%), the only benefit of infiltrating the war room would be to plant listening devices in its purposefully sparse interior. If Jazz wasn’t acting out of malice, and simply having a panic attack (56%), he may still react violently to suddenly being cornered.
Matchup: Close quarters fight Jazz versus Prowl. Jazz victory 97%.
The 3% in Prowls favor mostly depended on Jazz having some kind of sudden health emergency.
Prowl carefully assumed a neutral pose, knocking on the door to the war room.
“This is officer Prowl speaking. Please exit the room peacefully, we do not want to hurt you.”
Silence, save for the shifting of many nervous peds behind him. Prowl risked opening the door a crack, keeping his body well out of the line of fire. “Jazz, it is Prowl speaking. I need you to say something. Otherwise we’re going to have to come in.”
When there was still no response, Prowl signaled for the gathered soldiers to come closer in preparation for a raid.
On the silent count of three, they entered the war room, blasters drawn and optics searching.
Prowl kept special focus on the ceiling. Fanning his doorwings, He created a real time 3D map of the room, tracking every mechs movements within.
Jazz wasn’t here.
Instantly, Prowl prepared to order a ship wide mech hunt. They’d already wasted so much time with their one sided negotiations. The tactician began rerunning his mental map of where Jazz could have disappeared.
Elita had already sent him several unhappy comms messages about what she was going to do to the alien and him if Prowl didn’t find them. Confirming between threats that Jazz hadn’t gotten into her room.
Velocity had Nautica and Nightbeat in the med bay with her, turning the place upside down in case Jazz doubled back.
He found the comm line for the therapists office.
[PROWL] We have a rogue, possibly unstable mech loose within the Lost Light. Are you inside your office?]
[RUNG] Ah Prowl! Good to see you reaching out to me first for a change. Just finished up a lovely talk with Jazz.]
[RUNG] I think he has something important to tell you.]
———————————————————————
I am generally intrigued by the concept of how being apart of the Decepticon’s pecking order messes a person up.
There’s references all over to how Prowls physical and mental well being got absolutely wrecked and is now in recovery from being apart of High Command. (Inspired partially by @glitchgh0sty’s Deception AU go check ‘em out they’re cool.)
I also wanted to explore the social side of things.
Prowl makes himself unapproachable on purpose, Elita makes acts of excessive violence on her enemies a prominent display and Red Alert is even more invasive than normal.
It’s all to ward off other Decepticons from sensing weakness and stabbing them in the backs. Younger mechs like Bluestreak and Velocity can get away with being much more relaxed and friendly because they’ve got scary ass mechs like Prowl and Elita behind them radiating the “I will fucking destroy you.” energy on their behalf.
We get to see the masks slip a bit here and there. Red Alert genuinely concerned for Prowls safety underneath the paranoia. Elita gives Jazz and Prowl a lot more freedom than an actual tyrant would, even if it’s granted with over the tops threats of physical violence. And of course we see a lot of what Prowl is actually like removed from the pressure of behaving like a “proper” Decepticon.
Wonder what will happen when a certain mecha pilot gets a crowbar under those masks.

Take Your Time, Miss Deer (Sylus x Reader) - Ch. 4
In a tailor shop tucked in the calmer side of the N109 zone is a little room where all clothes of many different designs come together under the delicate hands of an unassuming deer living in the den of all sorts of beasts and sitting on them is the dragon who wears your clothes.
Your many interactions with Skye, Mr. Sylus’ messenger or-
-Sylus is waiting for you to finally figure out he is playing his own messenger.
A Deer Hybrid! Reader x Dragon Hybrid! Sylus Fic
Tags: Sylus x Reader, Hybrid AU, Suggestive Themes, Fluff, Predator/Prey, Self-Harm
Chapter Summary: Horns. Antlers. A long tail with smooth scales. A short tail. If those are gone, then both of you are almost the same, right?
Author's Note: Some lines have references to existing media. I have been playing Disco Elysium every now and then with a dash of Reverse 1999. Still going with the main themes tackled by Beastars and BNA though but you know, I really do love certain lines from these games that I just want to put it in here as well.
Enjoy!

4: My Dearest, Generous
A little downpour has visited the N109 zone today.
It was close to the afternoon when you heard the soft pitter patter against the windows of your studio that is steadily increasing intensity within each passing minute and you immediately rushed to close them one by one, not wanting water to get inside and ruin the patterns and the fabrics you have prepared to sew for tomorrow.
You were about to close the last window when a small, dark figure zoomed past you, spreading droplets on the wooden floor.
It looks like your odd little crow friend has decided to take shelter here at your studio.
Daisy settled on one of the armchairs, shaking the excess rainwater that clung on its feathers, letting out an indignant caw before preening itself.
“I know. It is quite sudden,” you chuckled softly, locking the last window with your ears flicking away little beads of rainwater that clung on your fur.
Daisy seemed to also agree and it let you remove the damp good luck ribbon you have made for it. It is a little worse for wear now so maybe it is time to make a new one.
Perhaps something more stylish? The image of your crow friend wearing a scarf made you smile. Very fitting because it is becoming colder but for now, another good luck ribbon with the color it prefers should do.
“It’s alright. I won’t throw it away,” you assured it when it hopped along with you, worried where you would put its cherished item.
Will you repair it? Mephisto thinks you can.
If its master can repair its circuits easily then it thinks you can do the same. You seemed very capable of fixing everything after seeing you stitch together large tears on the twins’ jacket before so it also means piecing back its worn ribbon should be easy to you.
For Mephisto, it doesn’t matter if its good luck charm is slightly damaged (What do you mean it's hanging by a thread?) All the affections you have poured into that ribbon will always be there no matter how it looks and it feels rather naked now that you have removed it.
Your finger grazed against the old wood of the cabinet while you hum absentmindedly, counting the number of the rows of shelves that store everything you need to sew any of your clients’ requests.
‘Oh, dear stranger journeying to a far off land, how many days must pass till I see you again?’
Third column from the left of the cabinet. Above where you keep the little boxes of buttons of various colors, all neatly organized, and then you finally pull out the drawer to retrieve a box inside of it.
Your crow flapped up to your sewing table, watching you set the item and it hopped in excitement.
Mephisto knows this particular box. This is a box where you store all of its trinkets it gave to you (Fine, and its master’s too.)
It was one of the few belongings you brought along before you left the place you once called home with your father.
A little gift to you when you were young by an old hybrid couple after you knitted them scarves. You never quite remember their faces anymore but even then, the memory of their gratitude lingered, the playful pinch on your cheeks when you handed them their scarves wrapped in brown paper and twine.
“Do you want me to play it?”, you asked Daisy, opening the box to reveal the various precious ores and gemstones resting together with the dried flowers your crow has brought for you.
All of it, hidden in one place, little memories preserved and forever cherished.
Mephisto let out a beep, a yes, its optics adjusting to take a recording once again of this little moment that it may or may not hold over its master’s head (Again) upon its return to the base when the rain subsides.
You nodded in approval, tying around Daisy’s old ribbon around one of the horns of the little black dragon figurine sitting inside the box then turned the key.
A soft melody began playing and both you and Daisy watched the black dragon spin among the field of red blossoms painted in the background as if it was chasing the white ribbon on its horn, a lonesome game but still fun while the two of you looked back at your reflections on the small mirror.
Mephisto pushed the top of its head under your chin, nuzzling you and you laughed softly, petting its back while you listened to the gentle lullaby.
“Quite a downpour, don’t you think?”
Your heart skipped a bit, the lullaby cut short as you immediately closed the box, pushing it near the pile of fabrics beside you.
These impromptu guests of yours always catch you off guard. Perhaps it comes with their innate trait of being able to make their presence hidden until they choose to reveal themselves.
Or so you thought.
The door shut with a soft click, your surprise visitor making his way towards you and your eyes widened. His footsteps were quiet, almost like Skye’s and twins’ but how is it possible? How is it possible when you and the person standing across your table are certainly alike, are of-
-the same species.
You nodded slowly, and Daisy hopped between you and your visitor, silently assessing this newcomer, one of the many who had made themselves comfortable in your studio.
“Louis,” the deer hybrid said, raising his hand for you to shake which you returned, telling him your name in return but not like you need to tell him, he already knows about you anyways. Everyone who has transactions with Sylus is fully aware of who you are.
The seamstress who dresses all the wolves of this den in sheep’s clothing.
The deer fiercely guarded by the dragon kept in this hidden corner of the N109 zone.
The object of Sylus’ affections.
Or, from people who harbors deep hatred to Sylus-
Sylus’ well-seasoned meal.
“What brings you here, Mister Louis?”, you asked politely, your hands on your lap. You haven’t seen this deer before.
Is he a new resident here in the N109 zone?
He is well-dressed, clearly wealthy, and the cut of his clothes fit him well.
His eyes lingered on Mephisto and he knew that this was the  little heathen made by Sylus to carry out his commands. One of his three errand runners  as people said who goes about doing his dirty work on his behalf.
That dragon really does keep a close eye over you, doesn’t he?
It was almost concerning. A predator hybrid and prey hybrid spending too much time with each other spells trouble. Is Sylus fattening you up? A meal reserved for a special occasion?
“I heard you are Sylus’ personal tailor,” he said, walking around your studio, studying the clothes on display.
“Yes, but more like his lead tailor,” you corrected him, your eyes watching him closely. It has been so long since you have met your own kind. Is it comforting? Maybe, “He still has other tailors as well.”
“Did he come here often?”
“Oh, never.”
“Never?”
“Yes, he has yet to pay us a visit.”
His eyes narrow slightly at you. The word in the streets is that you and Sylus are seen together more often and people have claimed that he is very forward on his affections to you, how his tail wrapped around your waist, and even how he gazed at you as if when you tell him to jump, he will ask how high you want.
“He only sends his people here,” you continued but you caught the subtle hint of confusion in his gaze and then you added, “Good people.”
Good people?
A brief look of surprise crossed your visitor’s face. Did he hear that right?
You think those wolf cubs, that crow between you, and Sylus of all people are good ?
Maybe it is true that every hybrids like you and him indeed lost their instincts when they stepped here in the N109 zone which is why your lot has to look after each other just in case, just in case that the beasts who reside here decide to remove their masks and hurt you just like how the humans did outside.
Because you prey hybrids are just so damn pitiful.
“It didn’t cross your mind that they would hurt you?”
“Everyone who entered this room didn’t.”
“There will always be the first.”
“I trust them more over the humans,” you replied. His concern is valid, of course, and Mister Louis here isn’t the first prey hybrid who expressed his worry over you being friendly with any of your visitors.
Your father is a different case, though, who is specifically worried about Skye.
Skye, of all people.
Skye who never crossed the line when he was here. Skye who doesn’t have to stay but chose to. Skye who helps you if he doesn’t have to.
But you know their concern stems from reality.
Humans.
Predator hybrids.
Prey hybrids.
That’s how the hierarchy goes. That’s how it has always been. Your kind stood in a delicate balance, docile enough in the eyes of the humans that you are taken advantage of often and weaker than the weakest predator hybrid as long as they have fangs to nip and claws to scratch.
“We’re deers by the end of the day.”
“I know but even then, it doesn’t make much difference.”
If anything, predator or prey, you are all just animals in the eyes of humans.
Tainted blood.
“I appreciate your concern, Mister Louis,” you added politely, giving him a small smile. “But it wouldn’t be fair for us to judge them easily when they haven’t harmed any of us here so far.”
Louis studied you closely. You genuinely do believe that all of you hybrids are equal.
How naive. How idealistic.
It will take centuries or more for prey and predator hybrids to get along and another more for hybrids and humans.
But then again, your father did mention to him you would rather run towards the nearest predator hybrid when in danger than seek help from a human.
“You’re an odd deer, Miss,” he chuckled softly.
He pushed a small package towards you wrapped in old newspaper.
“But just so you know, I heard dragons play with their prey before they eat them alive.”
────────────────────
Sylus adores the subtle signs of affection every time he is visiting you.
The faint blush on your cheeks when he stepped in to observe what you were doing. How you automatically shift closer when his tail is wrapped around your waist or when you listen to his words, your ears flicking while you pay attention.
His species in particular are naturally warm yet he only grew to understand the value of another person’s warmth every time he is with you and if he only can pull you closer, it is an irrevocable fact that you will be the warmest treasure he ever had held in his hands.
Not because of the blood pumping on your veins.
But because of the peaceful grace you have with you.
The deer doesn’t need to step out of her meadow if anything. He had already stepped foot on your paradise under the sunlight that passed the trees and if he can, he doesn’t want to leave the only place that treated him with sincere kindness.
Today, Sylus has been eagerly looking forward to his visit despite the sudden downpour.
As if a little rain would stop him from seeing his favorite deer and as usual, he is not one to be in your shop without gifts for you.
He gave your father an easy smile and the older deer simply nodded in return, a polite greeting, when the dragon hybrid passed by him.
Thirty steps from the entrance of your shop to the hallway and another set of ten from the hallway to your studio. Oh, Sylus can’t wait to see his hardworking darling and he was halfway to your studio when he stopped, his ears picking up your sweet voice from behind the closed door and well, well, what’s this?
His eyes narrowed, picking up the scent of another guest. Another deer hybrid just like you and-
-A male one.
Your voices were muffled by the walls of your studio but he would always recognize the always gentle and polite tone you used when talking to anyone.
Then, the door opened and Sylus immediately piece together the identity of the newcomer you were just talking to earlier.
He isn’t one to forget the name to the face, afterall.
A young upstart in the N109 zone trying to make a name and recently, the little birds had told him that this one is creating a small association for all prey hybrids living here, not that Sylus minds.
He caught the familiar scent of fear from the male deer hybrid but this one was able to put all of his apprehension under a nonchalant expression laced with subtle defiance.
This gaze is all too familiar to him at this point.
This visitor of yours does not like him.
“I was told you had never set foot in this shop,” the deer hybrid started, not looking away from Sylus.
Brave, perhaps there is a reason why this one managed to reel the leashes of all the predators following his orders but he has a thought that this particular hybrid will be a little nuisance.
“And what exactly have you been told?”, Sylus asked casually, studying the newcomer. A good looking one but he is aware your father wouldn’t set you up with anyone, not when the older deer had gotten the message loud and clear that he is pursuing you.
“The miss said you only send good people in this shop,” the deer hybrid answered, as if piecing together your words and Sylus’ presence, “That Sylus himself never set foot here. Not even once.”
“Is this miss lying, Sylus?” the deer hybrid continued, letting go of the door handle, “Or are you deceiving the poor girl?”
“You’re quite a detective, aren’t you?”
“I took it as my responsibility to look after people here who get too cozy with predators like you.”
“Are you implying I am going to snap and attack her one day?”
“There are too many cases of your kind that did,” the deer hybrid countered.
These answers, these excuses.
The same lines recited by predators who thought they could reel in their natural instincts and not harm the prey hybrids they claimed they love and adore.
“Oh really? I suppose you have a solution for that? Locking my sweetheart away just to make sure she is safe from the big bad dragon,” Sylus replied, taking a few steps forward but the deer hybrid did not seem to falter.
Sweetheart.
So the words are true. Sylus is indeed courting you in his own twisted way.
“No, my solution is not drastic,” the male retorted, walking towards him until they were shoulder to shoulder. “You still seemed a reasonable man so just a word of advice-”
“-Pursue your own kind and leave her alone.”
The newcomer walked away but Sylus can’t shake the audacity of this upstart.
Why?
Why do people think that he can’t love you or be loved by you just because of your differences?
If you removed your antlers and he cut his horns, both of you would have been humans and no one would bat an eye.
Sylus took a deep breath, the faint scent of rain still clung to his hair and clothes, calming him down slightly and even when the smell of your previous visitor hung about, he could still shift through all the mixed scents and pick up the aroma of cotton and wildflowers.
The scent of you.
It was more than enough to soothe him and then, he opened the door to your studio, ready to see you.
The tension that lingered on his interaction with your previous visitor breaks, in this room, in the garden of fabrics and threads where there is only the two of you, the world is a distant away.
The ocean of chaos in his heart slowly subsides.
In this little piece of paradise, a small voice emerges. Yours .
The dearest thing he wants to hear for his remaining days.
“Skye, quite a rain we are having, don’t you think?”
If all the precious metals and minerals he had ever owned merged together, its value will not be able to measure up on the fondest smile you wear when you see him.
Warm like the first rays of the sun after a long winter.
“Well, it certainly did not stop me, didn’t it?” he remarked, all the words the deer hybrid said to him fading in the background and your voice is the only sound he can hear.
He watched you move around your desk, coming close to him to examine him and he chuckled softly when you had to stand by your tiptoes to do so.
“Are you wet? Do you want me to get a towel for you?”, you fretted about.
“You’re so considerate,” he replied, his hands reaching out and settling on your waist to steady you, “But I’m fine, little doe.”
“Oh, you shouldn’t have really come over. You might get sick,” you pointed out, looking up to him.
You’d be surprised how far his constitution goes as a dragon but then again, he does love being doted by you.
“I’ll be fine, sweetie.”
“You could always turn down Mr. Sylus. His gifts can always wait.”
“But bringing his gifts to you is the only task I do enjoy.”
“Are you sure you don’t need anything else, Skye?”, you asked while he brushes the threads hanging on your antlers.
There are so many things he wants to ask from you. Those kisses you give freely to the twins and Mephisto, to hold you close and take in your comforting scent, and for you to finally call him by his real name but his requests, his pleas overflow, the words lost in his tongue and only then what matters is you, you, you.
Just you.
“Just keep doing your own thing, hm?”, Sylus replied, tapping your nose playfully.
“How about you help me and Daisy then?”, you asked, and you were so quick on pulling a chair for him, setting it beside where you usually sit on your sewing table, “If you don’t mind being my second assistant for today?”
His eyes fleeted on Mephisto which is busy shifting through the pile of fabrics you have laid out on the table. His mechanical crow really does enjoy spending time with you from the looks of it and he caught the absence of that familiar white ribbon you tried around its neck.
Had his companion managed to lose its valuable treasure already? That seemed unlikely. He had seen Mephisto snap at another crow once who tried to pull it off its neck.
“Just tell me what to do, darling deer.”
“Daisy and I are making another good luck ribbon,” you said, sitting on your chair and you patted on the chair beside you, an indication for him to do the same which he gladly did.
Oh, is that how that little item is called? No wonder Mephisto is very attached to it.
“A good luck ribbon?”
“Yes, to keep Daisy safe.”
“Well, isn’t Daisy a lucky bird to have you, miss seamstress.”
“I’ll make one for you as well, Skye”, you smiled, and the idea of having Mr. Sylus’ bodyguard wearing a ribbon in one of his horns sounds quite appealing to you. He would very much resemble the dragon figurine inside the music box you have beside you and he will be more approachable, you are sure.
“Are you saying I need good luck, sweetheart?”, he replied but he was already shifting through the fabrics laid out in front of him together with Mephisto and he already had a color in mind.
Afterall, he had always loved the color of your eyes. Warm, welcoming, and eager. He certainly wouldn’t mind a ribbon of that hue tied around one of his horns.
Your ears drooped slightly on his response, “You don’t want one?”
Oh, he doesn’t need luck.
Not when he already has you near him but how could he resist that cute pout on your face? This little tactic of yours, even if you are not aware of it, always works so well that he always finds himself abiding to whatever you would say.
“Don’t give me that look, Miss Deer,” he gently chided you and tapped your nose, “Of course I want one.”
Your tail wagged just slightly upon hearing his reply. It always gives you a sense of purpose when people say they like to receive gifts from you and since you are now making him one, maybe you should sew one for Mr. Sylus as well, a little token of gratitude for all the gifts.
“Do you think Mr. Sylus would want one as well?”
“I am sure he will appreciate it.”
“What color do you think he would want?”
“Red,” Sylus replied, an idea already forming in his head after you are done with this project while he fiddled at the edge of the fabric that shares the color of your eyes, “Definitely red, sweetie.”
Daisy hopped near you, dragging its chosen fabric by its beak and Sylus shifted closer to you, your shoulders touching and ready to take any instructions you would give him.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of the sewing part.”
“Just say the word, miss seamstress.”
Certainly not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon with you.
────────────────────
Sylus had always detested the horns sitting on top of his head.
Monster.
Among the thousand curses and more he has been called, the word had always carried a certain weight every time humans and hybrids alike had laid eyes upon him.
His kind is a rarity these days, a dying breed after being hunted and culled like livestocks when the humans had deemed they are a threat.
How many times had he sawed them off? He only lost that habit when he realized that they always grow back, more pointed than ever and-
-If he can’t convince his hunters he meant no harm, then it is time to prove their fears right.
The blood drips from the blade, into his face, and then into the white tiles of the bathroom. In this world overflowing with laughter mocking him from being the last of his kind, he had decided to level the playing field and carve a utopia for himself that slowly grew, a twisted safe haven initially meant for fiends such as him.
Then, on this land of despair, a small patch of paradise had taken root. Clearly impossible but certainly, without a doubt, a miracle.
Sylus then realized having horns isn’t too bad. A grotesque reflection of your elegant antlers, a bad imitation, but one of the similarities you both share.
“I am glad you love it, Daisy,” you clapped your hands, watching your odd little bird hopped about and turn for you and Skye, showing off the little ribbon you have sewn together.
His mechanical crow is more than pleased and Sylus is already sure it is about to show it off to the twins for receiving a new gift from you.
It has become a little competition between those three and they don’t need to know that their boss is more than aware their contest involves who gets the most kisses and pats from you.
And here he is, sitting at the bottom of the list with the lowest score even if he isn’t technically part of that game.
“Do you want me to put on yours as well, Skye?”, you asked him.
“Just try not to tie it too tight, darling deer,” he said and he bent his head slightly, enough for you to reach his horn.
There was a shiver that ran on his spine when your fingers grazed his horn while you carefully fastened the ribbon around it and he let out a small whimper.
It was a gesture of trust but you wouldn’t know that, not when it was common for you deer hybrids to touch each other’s antlers.
But it was more than a gesture of trust.
Afterall, Sylus is more than aware that his kind only allows closed family to touch their horns and-
-Their mate.
He almost sounded pathetic in his own ears and for once, he is afraid to see the look of pity on your eyes. Here is your liar, Miss Deer, he wants to tell you but he wouldn’t deny there is a hint of fear that eventually you will realize ‘Skye’ and ‘Mr. Sylus’ are one and the same.
Would your fond gaze turn to fear by then?
“Oh, did I put it on too tight?”, you asked when your ears picked up the sound he made.
It was not pity that he saw but a flicker of concern if you have hurt him and oh, his sweetheart, always so caring. What did he do to deserve your kindness?
Too tight? Hardly. Your touch was so gentle, so unfamiliar yet he yearned for more.
“No sweetheart, you haven’t,” he replied and then you let out a small laugh when he pinched your cheek.
“I am glad,” you nodded and you studied the bow closely placed at the base of his horn. You should put more ribbons on him because it certainly made him look less threatening.
Maybe then, your clients wouldn’t have a heart attack if you and him had to go again to do a delivery run soon.
“It really looks good on you, Skye. People would believe you are a nice and friendly dragon now.”
“Perhaps I should wear ribbons more often then,” he joked but your ears seemed to perk up at his comment, and he caught the anticipation in your eyes at the prospect of making him more bows.
You nodded, and he froze slightly when you rub your antlers against his horn where the ribbon is tied in approval, “That sounds great. I can’t wait to see you in them.”
How many years has it that Sylus had long for such affection? To be treated gently and not as a lesser animal? Now, all of those wishes, his yearning for love that he thought he will never have, were slowly fulfilled unknowingly by you and he closed his eyes, rubbing his horns back to you.
“And I can’t wait to try out more ribbons for you, sweetie.”
“I hope Mr. Sylus will like what I made as much as you do, Skye.”
He may have stayed longer than usual today, especially when you ask him to only leave when the rain stopped. The sound of the downpour, the soft conversation between the two of you, and the sewing machine humming filled the room and even when evening fell, he watched you still push through, making your patterns, until you accidentally dozed off mid-conversation.
Little deer always forgets she is in the company of a beast.
He gently tucked your hair behind your ear, his hand lightly grazing the fur from the base until the tip, fleeting, not enough for you to even stir and the red gemstone that adorn your hairpin twinkled for a moment, like a wink.
Sylus left Mephisto with you, who almost looked like a plushie with you curled up against his companion and he set the gift he had brought for you near your hand holding the pencil.
Perhaps this is the start of another small game. A back and forth. A gift from him in exchange for a little trinket from you this time but Sylus will have to see.
He tied the red ribbon you said to give to ‘Mr. Sylus’ upon his return around the leather strap of his watch before he left your studio.
A small smile formed in Sylus’ lips when he took one glimpse of you before leaving.
If you opened your eyes, you will see that your Mr. Sylus is already more than pleased.
────────────────────
It was such a relief to see the boss returned to the base all too pleased with himself.
Luke and Kieran never found out what actually ticked him off last time he had visited you and their little investigation never arrived on a conclusion because you just looked at them confused when they tried to ask you if you and the boss had a little misunderstanding.
“Do you think he got upset because I asked for a piece of his lemon tart?”
They decided not to press on further, not wanting to upset you (Also because you offered to share the box of macarons they stole given to them begrudgingly by that cute, feisty sheep hybrid.)
They welcomed him in the base as routine but mostly because they are excited to see their father boss once again and he is usually more forgiving with their little antics every time he sees you, their tails wagging in excitement.
(Not that they blew up something again. They have been good while he is away for once. This whole sewing hobby is really taking up their free time.)
Yet, when Sylus went past the double doors of the base, they caught a scent quite strong that clung on him.
The scent of cotton and wildflowers.
Luke and Kieran looked at each other, a flicker of understanding. Is that why the boss is happier today?
“Boss, why do you smell like Miss Deer-”, Luke was about to ask but let out a yelp when Kieran stepped on his toes yet even then, the question had already made its way into his ears.
“What are you two on about?”, he asked, a small smirk tugging on his lips. He knows these two wolf cubs had a superior sense of smell, an already inherent trait for wolf hybrids amplified by whatever the humans did to them before arriving here in the N109 zone.
That little gesture of yours where you rubbed your antlers against his horns is supposed to be an affectionate one, fairly common among deer hybrids who are known for being very friendly to those they like.
He is still wearing the little ribbons you made for him which he had not removed until now but he is more than aware you have unknowingly left your scent on him.
Not that he minds, anyways, especially when he had also left his on yours as well.
He had to give these two points for asking him bluntly unlike your father who had given him an odd look when he exited your shop but he is sure you will be able to clear everything up.
You are not one for lying after all.
But these wolf cubs have no sense of subtlety. So nosy.
“Did you and Miss Deer had-”, Luke let out another yelp when Kieran stepped on his toes again, “Can you stop that, Kieran?”
“I am not giving you allowance for you both to sniff on my clothes,” Sylus said dryly.
The two looked at each other, their tails wagging harder. They wouldn’t dare do that knowing full enough the boss retaliates during their sparring sessions and it wasn’t their fault when their noses can smell up to miles.
“Come on, boss,” Kieran said, the two walking with him deeper into the base, “We aren’t animals.”
“Actually, it is pretty much stronger around your horns,” Luke piped and his eyes widened slightly, noticing the ribbon fastened on the base of his horn and another one in his watch.
The twins looked at each other, their eyes studying the neck scarves you have gifted them.
The boss had finally received a gift from you just like they did.
“You both are acting like animals.”
But the little scratch he gave them on the back of their pointed ears betrayed his words.

Little gremlins.

Author's Note: Yes, I borrowed Louis from Beastars. He is absolutely necessary in the world building of this story even if he will appear here just ONCE. What did Louis left at Miss Deer's table? What is Sylus' gift? These will all be revealed in due time.
Will there be a side story with the twins? Maybe, maybe. We will see how the stars will align in the coming months.
Anyways, this is so fun to write. I try to write in between my free time and sometimes I just woke up at 2am because the ideas JUST HAD TO COME AT THAT TIME.

Some WLW (?) Jdrama & Kdrama recommendations!
Tumblr media
Jdramas and Kdramas have a (not-entirely-unearned) reputation for being very straight, but here are a few which are either canonically F/F or which prominently feature a female-female pair-- please enjoy! For those who enjoy following series in real time, Chaser Game W and She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat S2 are both airing this January 2024 :)
As with my post on anime with yuri subtext, since subtext is so subjective, this list only includes series which I’ve actually watched, and so is by no means intended to be comprehensive. Also, it doesn't include any webseries, since those probably deserve a post of their own.
At-a-glance list:
Miss Sherlock (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Night Light (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext)
Tokusatsu Gagaga (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext)
Painter of the Wind (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?)
She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon)
Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta (5 episodes, 1992) (canon)
Chaser Game W (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon)
Doctor X (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext)
Bonus: SKY Castle (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Summaries under the cut!
1. Miss Sherlock / ミス・シャーロック (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext) – MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
The elevator pitch for this show is simple: it’s Sherlock Holmes, but where Holmes and Watson – here named “Sherlock” and Tachibana Wato, and played by Takeuchi Yuko and Kanjiya Shihori, respectively – are both female, and the cases are all set in modern Tokyo. As with other adaptations, mystery-solving and the budding relationship between the two leads takes centre stage, but Miss Sherlock manages to carve out an identity all its own.
There’s a calm beauty to its visuals, which favour sunlight and urban greenery, and the show’s focus on former doctor Wato as she tries out new jobs and goes to therapy means that there’s a surprisingly high number of slice-of-life scenes. It’s also subtly more female-focused than the source material; Sherlock’s gossipy but good-natured landlady Ms. Hatano (Ito Ran) is as much a member of the household as Sherlock and Wato, and the cases often revolve around female characters. But more than anything, it’s just really fun to watch Sherlock and Wato’s relationship bloom as they snip and snipe and are utterly unable to stay out of each other’s space (literally – the body language and blocking is *chef’s kiss*). Their relationship is the heart of the show – watch this one until the end, you won’t regret it!
(CW: psychological abuse, manipulation, and genre-typical murder, violence, and gore)
2. Night Light / 불야성 (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: spoilers for the mid-season twist, but it’s impossible to allude to a good portion of the F/F subtext without doing so, and I think knowing the twist ahead of time doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.)
Night Light is a rather odd show. It’s simple enough on the face of it, a story about  successful but ruthless CEO Seo Yi-kyung (an icy Lee Yo-won) who tries to mold the younger Lee Se-jin (a puppy-eyed Uee) in her own ambitious image, only for her protege to develop the conscience she never had and move to stop her dastardly plans… but upon watching it’s a totally different creature,  thanks to the alchemic reactions of some delightfully contradictory acting choices (Uee’s performance convinces viewers less of Se-jin’s supposed latent desire for power and money, and more of a deep love and devotion for the CEO) and the unintentionally (?) inneundo-laden script (“If I like something once, I never forget it– whether it’s a dress… or a person,” declares the CEO less than ten minutes into the first episode while gazing intently at Se-jin).
Honestly, it’s a wonder this series ever got made, but you certainly won’t see me complaining! The first part is full of boss/subordinate goodness; Se-jin is unable to resist the CEO’s magnetic pull despite her hot-and-cold behaviour, while the CEO cannot bring herself to push Se-jin away completely. And then, when Se-jin makes her mind up to stop the CEO, it morphs into a corporate take on a (subtextual) lovers-on-opposite-sides situation, where it is precisely Se-jin’s feelings for the CEO that motivate her to stop her. In short, it’s a workplace GL fan’s dream.
Note: If you do watch it, skip the corporate politicking cutscenes with the old men, you’ll thank me later. Also, there’s a prominent male character who is the CEO’s ex and who works closely with Se-jin in the second half, but don’t worry, all the M/F romance is in the past (and doesn’t get much screentime)– he and Se-jin aren’t interested in each other at all.
3. Tokusatsu Gagaga / トクサツガガガ (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Nakamura Kano (Koshiba Fuka) lives and breathes tokusatsu shows (think Power Rangers, if you’re not familiar), but keeps it a secret from her work colleagues to avoid being shunned or laughed at. And yet she yearns for connection, so when she sees a woman on the subway bearing a keychain from her favourite show (Yoshida Hisami, played by Kurashina Kana), she is determined to find her again.
Although ostensibly about being a tokusatsu fan as an adult, this show is rife with queer subtext, and not in the usual way. It deals with the difficulties of staying in the closet (regarding being an adult tokusatsu fan), the desire to connect with other queer people adult tokusatsu fans and how one might do so through hints and signals, parental disapproval arising from gendered and social expectations (that tokusatsu shows are for boys, and magical girl shows for girls), intersectionality and finding comradeship with other minorities people who are excluded due to their interests, and even generational gaps wherein younger queers fans may underestimate the obstacles that still exist. Although all that might sound a bit stressful, it isn’t actually! Difficult incidents are handled with sympathy and a dash of wry humour, and the show never loses sight of the fact that it – above all else – is a story about finding queer community in the face of a heteronormative hostile world, told with warmth and the nuance of lived experience.
4. Painter of the Wind / 바람의 화원 (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Adapting the novel of the same name by Lee Jung-myung, Painter of the Wind takes as its protagonist a gender-bent version of real-life Joseon-era painter Shin Yun-bok (Moon Geun-young), whose paintings are used to weave a tale of artistry, political intrigue, and romance, and more than anything else to offer modern-day viewers a glimpse of everyday life in 18th-century Korea.
While it may sound like Dickinson’s boring cousin, apart from having a common preoccupation with reframing historical works, another similarity the two shows share is that Painter of the Wind is also very gay. Starting from the first episode, Yun-bok meets and becomes fascinated by the courtesan Jung-hyang (Moon Chae-won), who despite her initial aloofness is drawn to Yun-bok’s intellect and sensitive demeanour. It’s a real meeting of the minds, their witty repartee in early episodes reminiscent of Twelfth Night’s Viola and Olivia, and their relationship isn’t siloed off from the main plot either: Yun-bok’s infatuation quickly starts causing issues with her academic career, and the two eventually have to contend with Jung-hyang’s precarious position as a courtesan as well.
Unfortunately, all this is undermined in the back half of the show, which tries to gaslight viewers into thinking that Yun-bok’s feelings for Jung-hyang were purely platonic all along and that she totally has romantic feelings for her much older male mentor— but hey, at least it’s an open ending. Despite everything, though, I can’t think of another serious historical TV show which features such a prominent F/F narrative for its main character, even nearly two decades later. (Let me know if you have any others! And no, Gentleman Jack doesn’t count, it’s not exactly traditional in style!)
(CW: period-typical sexism)
5. She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat / 作りたい女と食べたい女 (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Based on Yuzaki Sakaomi’s manga of the same name, this simple but sweet show follows home-cooking extraordinaire Nomoto Yuki (Higa Manami), who yearns to cook large-scale dishes but doesn’t eat enough to justify making them. Luckily for her, her neighbour Kasuga Totoko (Nishino Emi) has a massive appetite!
It’s always lovely to see more grounded stories about working women, especially when they’re as cute as this one. Though it touches upon some slightly more serious issues, such as with regard to gendered expectations surrounding food and cooking, it’s primarily a feel-good slice-of-life show about two women getting to know each other by cooking and eating delicious food together.
Side note: if you’ve started it and think the show doesn’t look cosy enough, stick it out for a few more episodes, the production values improve after the first part! Also, the series was renewed for a second season with double the episode count (for a total of 20 episodes) which will start airing on January 29th this year, so this is the perfect time to jump in!
6. Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta / その時、ハートは盗まれた (5 episodes, 1992) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Sono Heart, as it’s nicknamed, starts off as a typical heteronormative high school romance: bumbling protagonist Shiina Hiroko (Isshiki Sae) is desperate to get closer to her crush Katase Masato (Kimura Takuya), star of the school basketball team and all-round nice dude. However, a spanner in the works comes slouching along in the form of female classmate Aso Saki (Uchida Yuki, in her debut role), a mischievous, short-haired personification of trouble who Katase turns out to have feelings for. One day, Hiroko gets into a fight with Saki, and they end up having to stay together after school as punishment. But that afternoon gives them the opportunity to bond over a heart-to-heart conversation, and things seem to improve… until, just before leaving, Saki kisses Hiroko. And then everything changes.
Or rather, everything changes eventually. What’s great about this show is that it doesn’t take shortcuts: Hiroko doesn’t instantly fall in love with Saki. Instead, what you get is a surprisingly layered portrait of a high school girl whose coming to terms with queerness is merely a natural extension of reckoning with her burgeoning sexuality. And, because Saki is self-destructive in her depression and makes a game of belittling, worrying, and infuriating anyone who cares about her, it’s really a story about what it means to love another person rather than a romantic ideal. A word of warning, though: Katase is actually quite a large character, as he and Hiroko end up becoming friends. Also, the ending is very abrupt and inconclusive, though rest assured that it doesn’t try to roll back Hiroko’s feelings, or pair either girl off with a guy.
(CW: self-harm, attempted suicide, bullying, homophobia, underage drinking)
7. Chaser Game W: Power Harassment Boss Is My Ex-Girlfriend / チェイサーゲームW: パワハラ上司は私の元カノ (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Probably jumping the gun here as only two episodes have aired as of writing, but I feel honour-bound to recommend this as it’d probably appeal to a lot of people, if only they knew about it! Chaser Game W is a standalone spin-off of Chaser Game, itself an adaptation of a manga of the same name by Matsuyama Hiroshi and Matsushima Yukitarou, but you don’t need to know anything going in.
Protagonist Harumoto Itsuki (former Keyakizaka46 captain Sugai Yuuka) has been assigned a new job: her company has been asked by a Chinese conglomerate to develop a game adaptation of a GL manhua, and she’s been tapped as the project leader. However, what appears to be an exciting prospect soon becomes a terrifying one, as the person sent by the client to supervise turns out to be her ex-girlfriend from university (Lin Dongyu, played by Japanese actress Nakamura Yurika), who is now married to a Chinese man (played by a Japanese actor) and has a child, but remains hell-bent on exacting revenge on Itsuki for their bad breakup. This is a romantic (melo)drama rather than a psychological thriller, though, so you won’t be watching Itsuki getting terrorised the entire time. While she is understandably upset by her ex’s current behaviour, Itsuki can’t forget about their happy days together, and Dongyu herself veers between being a sneering bully and craving Itsuki’s affection.
Do note that the show isn’t without its flaws: it’s very Japanese about the Chinese thing, which is to say it’s filled with comments which range from somewhat offensive to borderline racist, and the script will probably give you a headache if you know even the slightest thing about game development. Your mileage might vary on the ex too, as she can be really quite nasty to Itsuki and her teammates. But if you can overlook those issues, this is a rare prize indeed: a TV drama focusing on a canonical F/F pair, who are specifically exes, and in a workplace setting.
(CW: bullying)
8. Doctor X / ドクターX (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
To be very honest, I was in two minds about including Doctor X on this list. It is, with a few notable exceptions, misogynistic and reductive in its depictions of women (especially in the first two seasons), gives too much screentime to objectively awful and subjectively annoying men, doesn’t respect the work done by medical personnel apart from surgeons, and on the technical front is formulaic, repetitive, and often lazy in its writing and presentation. Unfortunately, the dynamic between the genius surgeon protagonist Daimon Michiko (Yonekura Ryoko) and her anaesthesiologist wife partner friend Jounouchi Hiromi (Uchida Yuki) is almost unparalleled in its excellence.
The premise of the series is basic indeed: Daimon Michiko is a freelance surgeon with a healthy disrespect of rules and authority and, unluckily for her detractors, a cast-iron guarantee that she will succeed in any surgery, no matter how difficult. She’s initially portrayed as a lone wolf who’s dismissive of the entire hospital system and anyone who’s part of it— but her interest is piqued by the anaesthesiologist Jounouchi, who is skilled beyond her peers and chafes against the idiocy of her colleagues. For all its flaws, the first season – which is more serious and edgy in tone compared to the others, and isn’t an ensemble cast like the post-S3 seasons – is a fantastic depiction of two people being perfectly matched in skill, intellect, and outlook, and how they come together despite one being standoffish (Jounouchi) and the other not being used to reaching out to or even respecting other people (Daimon).
The seasons after that sadly ditch the emphasis on Jounouchi being Daimon’s professional equal, but in exchange offer up another rare and unexpected gift: two women in their late thirties / early forties who are partners both at work and in private. Jounouchi is Daimon’s designated anaesthesiologist, assisting with nearly every surgery, and she spends so much time at Daimon’s agency-office-slash-house you’d think she’d moved in. Also, after a point they just start being wonderfully dorky and comfortable with each other, while still being consummate professionals in the operating theatre. Although the show is very much focused on Daimon Michiko as its sole protagonist, Jounouchi is undoubtedly the character most significant to her – even more than Daimon’s father figure, the head of the freelance agency – and this is highlighted in the story from time to time. They are very, very good. I just wish the series was better.
Note: If you’re curious, I would recommend watching the very first episode in full– by the end you should know if you’re invested enough to continue, otherwise drop it and live in the happy knowledge that you dodged a bullet. If you aren’t so lucky, I’d advise skipping the surgery segments when they start to bore, and in general to skip liberally. Also, season 4 is not worth watching as a whole, except for the last two episodes, which absolutely should not be missed. Sigh. I can’t speak to seasons 6 and 7, due to having paused mid-S6.
Side note: If you’ve watched Doctor X already and liked it (or at least like Daimon and Jounouchi), but haven’t tried Miss Sherlock yet, definitely give that a go because there seems to be a big overlap in the fandoms. Maybe it’s because they both feature a genius protagonist, have the two largest female characters being work partners, and domestic vibes…?
(CW: sexism, genre-typical gore)
Bonus: SKY Castle / SKY 캐슬 (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: slight spoilers for the early episodes, but it’s necessary in order to give a more accurate recommendation regarding the F/F subtext, especially as the show is not primarily focused on any one relationship.)
This one’s a bonus because unlike the others on this list, there’s no close relationship between two female characters which could be interpreted in a romantic light. That’s not too surprising as the show is all about the women of a several super-wealthy families trying to get their children into the top Korean universities (equivalent to the Ivy League) whilst supporting their husbands in the rat race: a decidedly heteronormative premise, albeit one that’s executed in an award-winning manner.
So why am I listing it? Well, it’s because somehow, in this series about heteronormative and highly gendered nuclear families, it features possibly the most erotically-charged dynamic I have seen, even taking season 1 of Killing Eve into account. (Though it takes some time to get there, so if you try it out, please watch at least the first four episodes before making a decision!)
That honour goes to the problematic gem that is the relationship between the main character Han Seo-jin (Yum Jung-ah), who is willing to do whatever it takes to get her daughter into Seoul’s top medical school, and star tutor Kim Joo-young (Kim Seo-hyung), who is known for her 100% success rate. It starts off with a mild push-and-pull, when Han Seo-jin wants Coach Kim to take on her daughter, but is wary of the shady rumours surrounding her; the tutor stands firm, and Han eventually has to swallow her pride and accept the risks. Where it really comes into its own, though, is when Coach Kim starts to pose a legitimate threat to everything Han cares for: her daughter, her marriage (or rather, what her husband can give her), her position in the world. It becomes increasingly clear that Han should just walk away, and indeed she tries to do so many a time, only to bend in the end because the coach is key to fulfilling her dearest wish– and so to Han, for all she rages and resents and fears, Coach Kim is nothing less than temptation itself. This is the beating core of the show, and even as the plotting disintegrates and falls into melodrama in the second half, their scenes together still crackle with delicious tension every time. Watch it.

DpxDc, A hypocrite's concern
A little thing I wrote about Jason and Danny interacting after Jason gets captured by the GIW:)
(Starts under cut because I accidentally made it long)
Jason didn't know what to think.
He had been walking to the bus stop to get groceries in his civilian clothes, when a white van with an obnoxious logo on the side drove by and snatched him off the sidewalk. They didn't even grab him. They just full on drove by with a giant net outstretched like some weird type of fishing to catch him.
They didn't knock him out, they hadn't seemed to find a need to, but they did call him several terms he never even knew existed. None came close enough to the net—which was made of a weird material that couldn't be cut with his smartly hidden knife—to be kicked, so he had resorted to calling them several lovely names that you could only learn by growing up in Crime Alley.
When the van full of Men in Black ripoffs finally stopped, he was loaded into a... cage? Like, it looked a bit like a cage, but it also seemed as if it was made of rubber or plastic, and its shape was also odd, like it was specifically designed for something that would escape a regular cage easily and this was their attempt to stop it. It had bars, sure, but they were at weird angles and constantly layered over each other.
The 'cage' was placed on a cart and wheeled inside a generic office building, but they didn't enter through the entryway, no, what kind of madman uses a door? They entered through the wall. The agents walked directly through the wall, wheeling him in after them, with no difficulty other than pressing a small button next to a random brick. The secret entrance led to an early 2000s sci-fi movie elevator, that had wires filled with a disturbingly familiar green, and a not-so familiar blue.
One of the agents leaned into the comm thing attached to one of the wires and murmured something that made the elevator start working.
The elevator reached what was probably the bottom of the Secret Evil Lair™, and opened with a hiss. The doors revealed a well lit hallway with white walls, floors, ceilings, and heavily reinforced doors. So, these madmen did use doors. It was modern, but in a way that would remind you of a rich person with no interior decorating abilities.
The disproportionately large number of bald men pushed the cage-cart down the hall. The second thing he noticed after the atrocious decoration was the eerie quiet. There wasn't any noise that you would expect from an evil lab, even when the agents walked it was difficult to hear their steps, while when they were outside every step they made would be heard, inside, it was as if they were in their element.
The cart stopped in front of a door with far more protection than the rest, it was dark gray with the blue accents, rather than the white and green of the others. One of the agents leading him turned to a keypad-looking thing and began typing. The door had two signs on it, seemingly to catalog what was held within, but only one had any writing on it, as if the information of the room's contents was incomplete.
"-Phantom-
-DP-001-
-Danger Class: 7-
-Ectoplasmic Strength: Level 4 (For lower level agents, the maximum is Level 5)-
-Power Set: On the DP-001 file-
-Experiment Notes: While testing, ignore any and all pleas for mercy, it is a manipulation tactic it utilizes often. Do NOT remove the muzzle, doing so will result in termination. Causing permanent damage to subject without instruction from an agent classed over Class 7 will result in termination.-"
Jason was able to read the entire thing while the agent was still typing in the code to open the door. When the agent finally finished entering the code, the door opened with the same hiss as the elevator, and revealed a decontamination chamber.
They threw him into the chamber, and quickly closed the doors behind him. The cage melted away, as if it were made of wax, leaving him standing free in the chamber.
The chamber began to fill with a blue gas that fell from the ceiling vents. Jason instinctively held his breath while reaching for his gas mask, only to realize he didn't have his gas mask. Which was not right, he knew he had his gas mask. No Gothamite leaves home without a gas mask. No smart one, at least.
The agents had somehow managed to remove all of his belongings without him noticing. His clothes were also different, instead of the outfit he had left the house in, he was wearing a white shirt, and white pants.
How the hell did they do this? Was the most coherent thought he could have, but it was short lived as the doors in front of him opened with the exact same annoying hiss as the last few.
Based on the sign, he was expecting some kind of cryptid, like a demon, or something. But rather, he was greeted by a short teenager with black hair and blue eyes. The boy wore the same white clothes as Jason, but he also wore a mask that covered half his face, but there was also a blue tinted glass that allowed him to see his mouth. He was working on something behind him.
The boy stared for a moment, before smiling and waving animatedly, like he hadn't seen anyone other than the agents in a long while.
"Hi! I'm Danny!" He said, even if it was slightly muffled, sounding something between being under a blanket and speaking through a fan, "Or Phantom. Or DP-001 or just 001, they flip flop between the last three usually, you?"
"...I'm Jason," He couldn't see why he shouldn't tell this kid his name, it didn't matter, the kid wouldn't recognize it, "Uh, how old are you?"
Danny paused before tilting his head and asking, "Hm, What's the date? I dunno how long I've been here."
"April 13th." He replied, not liking the implications of not knowing your own age.
"Oh! I turned 15 last week! What about you?"
That was way too young to be... where ever this is, this kid is a literal child.
"I'm 23." Again, seeing no reason to lie.
"Wow. You're old." Danny said with the typical teenage snark you'd expect from a fifteen year old, "Sorry, my friend used to say that whenever her parents made her socialize at rich people parties."
He filed away that information for later, even if "Rich people parties" is pretty vague.
"So, where are you from?" Jason asked, Small talk and gather info, he can do that.
He froze for a split second, before speaking, "Amity Park," The kid said, smiling, but in a sad, wistful way, "It's in Illinois."
So this kid was most definitely kidnapped, there are no doubts about that.
"I'd ask where you're from, but I kinda already know" Danny stated, "I saw you in the Gotham file back when I still tried to escape."
Still? They had a file on Gotham? Why? Why was he on the file?
"Oh, why do they have me in the file?" Subtle.
"Either you died and came back funky," He started, holding his fingers out to count on his hand, which was, just perfect, that this random shady group knows about that, "Or you have come in to contact with ectoplasm, the green stuff, or both! That happened to me."
There was a lot to unpack there, but begin simple.
" 'Came back funky' ?" That was a good place to start.
"Oh yeah, like, came back with powers, or with your body being in a better condition than while you were dead, or coming back after too long a time for it to be technically possible."
That answered nothing and everything.
"Actually, I don't even think they care if you came back at all," Danny said after he seemed to think about it for a moment, "Ancients know they only care about technicalities when it benefits them."
Every time the kid answers a question, ten more fill its place because of the answer.
It was a little hard to focus on his answers, though, because of how uncomfortable the weird new clothes were.
Wait.
"How did they get these clothes on me?" He didn't really want the answer, but he also didn't want to not have the answer. "I didn't even notice it."
"Oh! Did they bring you here in a cage?" Danny asked.
"Yeah, if you could even call it that."
"Well," He said, making a big show with his hands to enunciate his sentence, which made Jason notice the electrical scarring that lined his left hand, "I'm pretty sure the Guys In White made the cages out of some material that, when it melts, coats your clothes in some kind of ectoplasm, and then the gas basically breaks down the affected clothing, and replaces it. I'm still not sure how, though."
That, again, answered nothing and everything, but mostly nothing this time.

Super useful little video that summarizes things I think a lot of us have picked up on in re: spotting AI writing.
The takeaway is to look out for these ten things:
1) em-dash (the long one like this (—) ... there's also a shorter en-dash (–) or hyphen (-), but all major models seem to LOVE the em-dash
2) parallel structure (“It’s not X – it’s Y!”)
3) lists of three (or 5 or odd numbers)
4) one sentence hook, ethos, list, effect, conclusion
5) Formatting line breaks with emojis
6) Overabundance of meaningless filler words and thesaurus words (innovative, practical, delve)
7) Exaggerated and empty praise
8) Weird analogies/similes
9) Constantly restating simple points, useless repetition and reiteration
10) No tangents at all [Link isn't working... I'll try again later.]

web of wyrd: how to identify fame/popularity
the top left corner of the wyrd web can tell you about some of your talents/interests, the core tells you who you truly are, and the flow/career is like the midheaven of the wyrd web realm. that being said, these are basic premises; in no way does one number mean a single thing. each number can mean different and multiple things. these are simply my observations (also observations are not destined to be true; they are simply possibilities / increased odds). if you want to learn more about the major arcana, which is the basis for the web's numbers, click here!

The Ghost King and The Firecracker
Chapter 3:  ...Growth?
Word Count: 3933
Masterlist for this work/info about the fic
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Chapter Summary:
Unraveling, family shenanigans, understandings of sorts, and Fire. Maybe not in that exact order.
All in all, the reveal felt sort of anticlimactic.
Jason was sweat soaked and nauseated, half laying down on the couch, and Danny was just… looking… at him. Jason didn’t know what else to say, and just sat there and made uncomfortable eye-contact.
Danny blinked before standing and pacing the apartment a few times, muttering to himself while Jason watched on, head tilted to the side. Finally, he left the room. Jason was a little concerned when he heard muffled screaming from Danny’s room, but he sat patiently until Danny came back.
Standing in the doorway, Danny takes a deep breath. “So. You’re the Red Hood then. That’s fine. It's cool and okay and fine. And you are also Jason Wayne, which makes Bruce Freaking Wayne THE Batman. Which is okay, and perfectly fine and reasonable.” He takes another deep breath.
“You sound like you’re trying to convince yourself, not me.” Jason interjects lightheartedly, holding back the retort of '-It's Todd-Wayne, actually.' Danny does not seem amused.
There’s a sound like something cracking that has Jason whipping his head around. It felt… angry? Not angry, but something adjacent to that, which was odd, because how could a sound feel like anything?
Danny jolts at his reaction. "Did you hear that?” He asks, something in his voice sounding a bit too excited.
“Yeah, the hell was that? Sounded like glass or ice or somethin’.”
Danny is at his side in a heartbeat, stars in his eyes. “I think I should start telling you about cores.”
Jason quirks an eyebrow. “I mean, I know I'm supposed to have one. What else is there?”
Danny’s grin gets wider and Jason’s stomach drops lower than it already was. Were his teeth always so sharp?
---
When Jason leaves, he’s positively reeling.
Sure, the explanation was kind of iffy, but Jason thinks he gets the gist.
Each ghost core has a type, and it could be, like, any element, or not element, or- actually, Danny didn’t know how many core types there were, so he had ended up moving on. Then there was the aura stuff and the Ghostspeak. Danny told him what he heard was Danny's core aura projecting a feeling. His core was an ice core, so the sound probably was that of crackling ice.
It clicked for Jason then. That’s how Danny knew he was whatever it is he is when they first met. Danny heard him making core noises or something.
When he asked, Danny lit up. “Oh yeah! Almost forgot that happened! That's not how I knew, I just knew, and, I mean, you only did it that one time, probably because it was your first real encounter with a ghost-slash-ghostly being and all.”
Jason had deadpanned, and Danny rushed to explain what he heard from Jason. Apparently he sounds like firecrackers?
“It could mean a number of things about your core type, but it could also be… uh.” He paused then, shooting an apologetic look at Jason. “Could also be- I guess you could refer to it as, like, after-images of your death? Too early to tell.” They fell into an uncomfortable silence after that until Danny moved on to scheduling their next meal.
He made sure Jason was no longer in danger of being sick and had rid himself of what he needed to. Jason confirmed he didn't feel the pits in his mind anymore. He even went so far as to call Bruce. He said nothing, of course, but when he had no reaction to hearing Bruce's voice, he sighed in relief and hung up. That seemed to be enough to convince both of them he was more or less cured.
It seemed wrong, to have it feel so easy. Sure, he spent a long time being sick, and an even longer time hurting, (Danny said he floated in and out of consciousness for a day and a half, but Jason doesn't remember any of it,) but all things considered, he feels like it should have been more difficult. He was out of commission for three weeks last time he got a stab wound, but this?  Purging himself of the plague that crippled him, reduced him to a slobbering attack dog, was gone in days? It was just... strange.
Then again, a lot of things had been easier lately with Danny around.
Danny had disposed of the bucket of filth from his first, and the worst, day of his sickness. He confirms it's been passed off to that Yeti doctor he mentioned earlier to be examined. Before, maybe, he would have been up in arms at the idea. The secrets of whatever was in that crap shouldn't be known. But if it really was just some sort of corrupted ectoplasm, then who better to deal with it that ectoplasmic beings? Jason had no complaints that it was out of his life.
Finally, armed with another jar of pure ectoplasm and a new mark on his calendar, Danny had ushered him from the apartment, claiming he had to go and talk to Frostbite again. Jason, thankfully, had recovered enough that his head was no longer spinning when he moved, so he nodded.
“Call me if you’ve got any problems! Oh also, you might start developingghostlyabilitiesorinstincts but don't worry too much!!” The door was shut in his face, and he didn’t do anything but blink dumbly at it for a minute. He’s about to leave when the door swings open and Danny hurries to add, “And no patrol for a while, yeah? Okay bye!”
The door is slammed again, and Jason shakes his head like he could clear the mess in his skull. It’s probably a good idea to retreat to his apartment now. He casts one last look at the door, giving it a second in case Danny comes out again, but ultimately begins the trek home.
---
The effects of no longer having Lazarus waters clouding his mind are immediate.
There’s a deafening lack of rage. His hands don’t shake with it, don't curl into tight fists. His teeth don’t grind with the effort of not lashing out. He doesn’t need to focus part of himself on staying contained because there’s nothing to hold back. It feels like relaxing a muscle that had been tensed forever, and the overwhelming relief is staggering.
He spends his first few hours as a free man reaching back out to Roy. He wants to visit him and Lian, now that he’s safe to be around. He calls up Alfred, asks the man if he can drop by for lunch. Just the two of them of course. He still isn’t ready to face Bruce, or any of the other bats and birds.
He is astounded that, when he thinks of Bruce, The Bat, he only feels the regular anger. Not the murderous kind, or even the vengeful kind! Just a dull sort of bitterness that has him avoiding the man.
And that insidious creeping feeling in his veins has gone too! There's no impending sense of doom. He doesn't see green anymore, and it's altogether disorientating. He feels unbalanced, like his depth perception is off, and he’s judging distances wrong and missing steps. Still, no uncontrollable rage.
It's marvelous, and extremely difficult to navigate.
Danny told him no patrol, and he is startled by his own lack of refusal. He isn't itching to take to the streets, to deliver justice by his own hand. His men are following his orders and keeping the alley safe on his word in his stead.
Sitting at home, however, makes his skin itch and crawl, so he spends some time just roaming the alley, sometimes texting Roy, or even Dick.
His older brother figure has responded eagerly each time Jason reached out, whether it was a text telling him about something simple he had for lunch, or a picture of a stray Jason saw on his path. Him and Dick were… complicated.
Jason remembers vividly how dismissive and cold the original Robin had been when he first arrived at the manor, had first taken up Robin. But he also remembers how, in time, Dick had tried . Despite the fights with Bruce, Dick did show up when it mattered.
Well, he tried, more often than not. Jason frowns grimly, pushing the thought of his lonely death away. He couldn’t blame Dick for that. He didn’t want to blame Dick for that, as much as part of him might always feel slightly betrayed. He was making an effort to match Dick’s enthusiasm in his own way.
Even if all he could return was a little ‘:)’ text.
---
He slept sparsely, and woke often for reasons he couldn’t decipher. Something was missing.
Daylight, nighttime, He finds himself wandering more and more. He leaves the Red Hood fit behind so he won’t feel the urge to do any real patrol, and just observes.
He knows growing a core probably is supposed to feel weird, but the new, unconscious behaviors he’s developing still throw him for a loop. There was an overwhelming feeling of something being wrong with Jason.
Well, more wrong than normal.
The pit in his stomach and the place in his brain that the Lazarus pits filled were… different. Changed. Something was missing. The Pits were emptied and replaced just as quickly, but whatever was there wasn’t finished. He’s more sensitive to… something, but he doesn't know what it is. It’s like he can feel the fluctuation in the air, or the movement of the earth beneath his feet. He’s hyper aware of that ‘something’, and it’s driving him up the wall.
He tries to leave Crime Alley, but hesitates on the border that would take him over the territory line. Something holds him back, and he finds himself turning around and heading home with little to no justification. It just felt like he needed to stay in his home territory. The idea of leaving made something twist in his gut. It's weird, but not enough for him to call up Danny yet. (Unless it keeps him from lunch with Alfred next week, then this will become a problem.) What makes him want to call Danny is the temperature thing.
When he still had Lazarus clouding his minds, he was uncomfortably warm more often than not. Now? He’s cold all the time, and nothing he does seems to fix it.
He bundles up in jackets and coats and gloves and isn't seen without a lighter on him. Sometimes he’ll light matches and just hold them until they burn too close to his fingers and he has to rush to blow them out. His thermostat sits at a constant 86 degrees, and it’s not enough.
When he wakes up shivering in his bed despite wearing five layers of clothes and being draped in at least seven of his thickest blankets, he makes a decision. He can’t wait two more days until dinner with Danny.
---
The phone call is unexpected, for sure. Danny groggily glances at the clock and notes the time to be 3 something. Regardless, he picks up his phone.
Jason’s voice answers him immediately, growly and sleep-addled. “I’m cold all the time. What's happening?”
Danny rubs the bridge of his nose with a sigh. “What happened to saying hi? Hello? How are you doing?”
Jason makes a frustrated noise. “Hi Danny. I am cold all the fucking time. What. is. wrong. with. me?”
Listening closer, Danny catches the sound of Jason’s teeth chattering and grimaces. “A little more info, please.” Danny sits up, already realizing he’s probably not going back to sleep any time soon.
“No matter what I seem to do, I'm always cold. Always!“ Danny can just picture the snarl on his face. He shakes his head to will the image away, blushing. “I- I must be wearing every coat I own right now, and I'm still shivering. If we don’t figure out how to fix this,” Jason laughs incredulously, “-Then I swear to god I'm gonna jump into a bonfire.”
“Well, first things first, don’t do that. Secondly, I'm coming over.” He hears a relieved sigh.
“I’ll send you the address.”
Confusion. “I already have it?”
Another laugh, this one far more genuine. “Not my old one. My real address.”
---
Danny could just fly on over there, but he wanted to walk. Wanted to try and get a feel for if anything had changed in the air of Crime Alley. If his, and Frostbite’s, suspicions were at all correct, then he wanted to confirm it.
Sure enough, when he stepped from the apartment and onto the street, he could feel it. A blanketing presence, though still light, that sang of possession. Of Jason’s control and protection over Crime Alley.
Danny might have felt uncomfortable invading a haunt so blatantly, living in a haunt that wasn’t just his own, but something about Jason just made him feel comforted. Safer. Jason’s core was growing fast enough he’d already managed to claim all of Crime Alley, probably unconsciously. When he grew into his power fully, he’d be a force to reckon with.

Jason’s apartment complex looks… not as bad as the first one he let Danny into, but not great. Still, he tries to give the man the benefit of the doubt.
He knocks, and Jason opens the door quickly, almost like he’d been waiting beside it. Danny says nothing about that, and just lets himself be ushered inside.
And wow, it is nice in here. A nice entryway, more than one room, warm lighting… and stiflingly hot. Danny is already sweating. He fights the urge to go ghost just so the heat won’t affect him. He turns to Jason, but any words he had die on his tongue.
Jason is positively bundled up. He looks ten times bulkier than normal with the amount of layers he’s wearing, scarves around his throat and gloves on and everything. He glares down at Danny through the gaps in his beanie-scarf combo, bristling like an alley cat. Danny finds he isn’t nervous though. Jason's murderous glare has no real anger behind it.
The sound of crackling fire emanates from him, but it pops and hisses anxiously. Despite the overwhelming heat in the apartment and the clothing and all, Danny catches a near imperceptible shudder run through Jason. He looks more miserable than anything now.
“So… I think we can definitively say you do not have an ice core now. Actually, we should just jump to assuming it’s fire based.”
“Fine. Good. How do I get warm?” His voice is muffled, but there’s a desperate edge there.
“You know how we were joking about the whole jumping into a fire pit thing?”
“Uh… yeah? Why?”
Danny looks at him with a small, sorta shaky grin. “That… might be a plausible cure.”
---
He convinces Jason to shed some layers before they head out. He retains his scraggly alley cat look, even glaring sorta pitifully at Danny.
He had already phoned his men, and Danny was surprised by how much Jason trusts his underlings. Apparently they had a warehouse full of old wooden pallets secured by the docks and were perfectly fine leaving gallons of lighter fluid and boxes of matches with no reasoning or anything. As soon as Jason and Danny arrived, they’d peace out without any questions.
“My men are loyal. And desensitized to my bullshit.” Hearing his voice through the helmet modulator was odd, but Danny was put a bit more at ease by hearing the contended, warm crackling of hearth flames emanating from Jason still. Danny thinks he still hears a few of those firecrackers snapping off in between the regular fire, and he wants to smile a bit more every time he catches it.
It was new, how constant and strong the sound was. Danny was happy, though. It meant Jason was on the mend. Soon, he’d be able to pick up on Danny’s core sounds too, not just when the emotion is strong.
With how Danny’s been feeling about Jason lately, that might not be the best development.

Nightwing’s comm crackles to life. He’s tying up some mugger and phoning Gotham PD, so he finished that all up quickly to answer. Oracle speaks first.
“Listen, Wing. I know you said to stay away from Hood and his new friend, but-”
Nightwing frowns. “O,” he cuts her off, crossing his arms over his chest despite knowing she can’t see the action. “He doesn’t want us snooping in! Hood is already antsy knowing about RR’s background check.” He chides. “Let him have a friend! It’s good that he’s got at least one normal friend around.”
There’s a sigh across the line and Red  Robin’s line connects with a fizz. “Yeah, normal is great and all, but ever since their last meetup, Red Hood hasn't been seen.”
Nightwing tenses, much as he tries not to. “But the person beneath the hood has been? Seen around, that is.”
“Affirmative. Hood has been picked up on cameras all over Crime Alley making  wide, looping patterns. He’s been… pacing, almost. I would call it a patrol, but he’s never seen in the armor, and he just walks the line between Crime Alley and whatever chunk of Gotham it borders.”
Nightwing scales the building to his left, getting to the rooftops. He stretches absentmindedly, thinking. “Like… Like a wolf?” He asks.
“I mean, I guess the comparison is there? He is only covering the borders of his ‘territory’.”
There’s a thoughtful humm down the line. Batman. “What’s this about an unknown ‘friend’?”
Nightwing groans. He wasn’t supposed to know about that! Oh, he’s totally going to scare Danny off. “It’s not important right now. Can we get to the point?” Nightwing mutters, running a hand down his face.
“Oh. Yes. Anyways, Hood has broken his recent behavioral pattern. He’s armored up and headed to a warehouse by the docks, if the movement of his gang is to be believed. They’re… gathering things.” Red Robin sounds uneasy, and his tapping on a keyboard is fast enough and frantic enough to be heard on the comms.
“Send up the coords. We’ll be there shortly.”
“B, no . He’s been doing so good! If he finds out we were spying on him like this-” Dick’s protest goes unheard, and his wrist watch lights up with a map, green pin blinking mockingly. Oracle, that traitor.
Still, he starts moving that direction. It’ll be better if he’s there for damage control. He fights off the worry that wants to overtake him.
Jason has been off lately, but he wanted to chalk it up to this new friend. A potential good influence, or an ally. Maybe even a partner. Daniel Nightingale.
Now, he’s worried that it does have something to do with Daniel. Nightwing picks up the pace.
The warehouse looks just as sketchy as Danny thought it would. I mean, it's a textbook gang warehouse. Of course, this one doesn't have any nefarious dealings going on.
Danny, invisible and intangible, hovers over Jason’s shoulders while he dismisses his underlings and eyes the pile of palettes. The wood isn’t in the best condition, but Danny didn’t really expect anything different. It’ll work either way.
Once Danny does a sweep on the place and ensures none of Jason’s ‘employees’ remained, he faded into view, still dressed in his ghostly hazmat suit.
Jason takes off the hood so that he's just in a simple domino mask. He runs his hands through his hair to fluff it up out of the flattened look the helmet gave it, and Danny has to look away. Ancients, he makes being hot effortless. Jason clears his throat and Danny turns back hurriedly, hoping Jason takes the green tint to his cheeks as a Ghost thing.
“So… Fire pit?”
“Oh! Yeah! Hahaha…”
Jason looks at the wood pile thoughtfully. “Maybe we should rearrange it a bit?”
Danny and nods, swooping up to see from above. “Yeah, maybe make it more of a neat stack than a tower...” Danny makes quick work of it, spreading out the palettes so the structure resembles more of a big flat platform of sorts. A solid base.
Jason spends this time dragging the gallons of lighter fluid over. The fact that he doesn't appear to struggle in the slightest with all the weight is unfair. It is ridiculously unfair, Danny thinks.
Danny scoops up a thing of lighter fluid and flies up to drizzle it over the pile of wood. Jason joins in, nose wrinkling a bit at the acrid scent. Once the palettes are well and fully drenched they both step back.
Danny takes note of the way Jason’s aura has drawn close to him, as if it was trying to protect him.
“We don’t have to do this, you know.” He murmurs, eyeing how hard Jason’s staring at the woodpile.
Jason hums softly, low in his throat, thinking. Finally, he shakes his head and taps his domino mask to turn the lenses clear, sighing. “I think you and I both know this has to happen.” He shifts restlessly. Danny was sure there must be some ghostly instinct drawing him to the stack, and Jason clearly didn't know how to feel about that.
“We could wait it out a bit. Go over other options? I don't… I don’t want you to feel pressured, or like this is your only choice.” Danny pauses before reaching a hand out to rest softly on Jason’s shoulder. Despite how cold Jason claims to be, even through all those layers, he’s burning up. “Especially if it triggers bad memories of your death.” He hopes his voice sounds as firm as he wants it to.
Jason smiles, and it’s just as warm as his skin though his clothes. “Thanks, but I… I’m ready for this. If it helps, it helps. ‘Sides, you’ll be there to get me out if something goes wrong, yeah?” There’s a twinkle in Jason’s eye that makes Danny’s stomach feel like it's full of butterflies.
Oh. Jason’s putting trust in Danny. That’s sure to kick those ghostly instincts aflutter. He has to fight back a pleased purr and just nods at Jason. Somehow, that is enough for the other man.
Jason strides forward, lighting a match with an air of determination. He flicks his wrist almost elegantly, and the wood platform roars into flames. He stumbles back a few steps so it doesn't catch him, and turns to Danny.
There’s a bit of uncertainty on his face, and Danny quells it with a reassuring grin and a flare of his own aura. It settles something in Jason, and he turns back to the flames.
They stretch high, but the lighter fluid can only keep them high for so long.
Multiple things happen at once.
First, Jason crouches before taking off at a sprint and throwing himself into the fire. He disappears into the swirling smoke and uncountable shades of orange-yellow.
Then, Danny darts after him, but hesitates on the edge of the flames, ears and senses attuned to Jason’s core. So far, so good.
After that, the flames boom, reaching hungry fingers into the air and clawing, the color shifting from orange-yellow to a rich sort of crimson. Relief drowns Danny. His suspicion was right. They just needed to kickstart things to finish this whole process off.
And finally, someone above them in the rafters of the warehouse screams, hoarse and angry, and three shadowy figures drop to the ground behind Danny, capes flaring behind them. One of them charges Danny immediately, making an almost inhuman sound of rage. Their weapons crackle with electricity, and Danny freezes at the sight of the sparks.

Now for the actual question:
Pavel, what's the longest and shortest one of your ex-nurses has lasted? Care to share what went wrong?
"Papa's busy at the moment, and even if he wasn't, he seldom talks of his past failures. But I'd be more then happy to answer."
Tumblr media
"Number 1 was by far the shortest lived nurse because she was far too curious. You know the old saying about cats and curiosity? Well it happened to her."
Tumblr media
"Number 2 was far too confident and hardly heeded warnings, which is foolish in papa's hospital. Never know what could be stored in these old labs."
Tumblr media
"Number 3 succumbed to auntie's odd serums. After such an incident, papa banned auntie from experimenting on his assistants."
Tumblr media
"Number 4 was too hesitant with things. And while that's good to some extent to keep you safe, too much hesitancy can be just as dangerous. Especially when dealing with the things papa creates."
Tumblr media
"5 barely listened to papa's important lessons, and if there's one rule you should always listen to, is to always listen to papa's lessons. He dropped her to the lower levels of the hospital where all patients become useful one way or another."
Tumblr media
"Number 6 became too disturbed by something she saw I suppose. She vanished in terror into the night, never to be found again… or maybe she was."
Tumblr media
"And 7, poor 7. We cats of Hospital 11 loved her so, but the lab equipment didn't love her as much it seems."
Tumblr media
"Finally Number 8… had such promise, but she upset papa and auntie the most. She stole their notes and knowledge, and attempted to flee with it before papa caught her. Why? Well no one will ever know now."
Tumblr media
"After 8, papa and auntie swore not to take on anymore assistants, but there's something about number 9 that made them reconsider. I suppose I see it, she gives the best chin scratches and serves the best diner to us cats. But now only time will tell if she becomes another folder in Hospital 11's files."
Tumblr media
"And our longest surviving nurse? She was actually never papa's assistant. Katya was originally auntie's assistant, but she was also too frightened of the goes on around here. Her scaredy-cat nature must be what's kept her around... I completely relate! Now she spends most of her days just assisting in simple surgeries and keeping Tchaikovsky, the hospital lobby cat, company."
Tumblr media
"From one cat to another, I hope that satisfies your curiosity! Now if you'll pardon me, it's time for a nap."
