“Y/N,” you hear a voice call out to you, recognising it to be Felix. Caught up in the swirl of your own thoughts, you almost forgot Felix had been waiting for your tutorial to end as he sat in a row of seats against the wall.

“So, how was it? Did you say anything to him?” He asks as you sit down beside him. 

“I just gave up,” you answer. “I forgot that you can’t get your point across to dickheads so I stopped trying. I’ll just go to the other classes' tutorials if they let me switch. Or maybe I can just cross-check my work with their tutor.”

The reason that most of the characters changed over time was because I updated the models to help the overseas studios (and our own internal artists) get things on-model. I'll go deeper into Billy & Mandy's history with designs in "Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry", but I went from wanting to allow artists to have complete freedom to tightening things down as time went on. The smart play would've to develop solid models first and then explain how, when, and why you can break the rules. That's the opposite of what we did.

Jeff was a more complicated character than most, with his double-mandible, multiple eyes, and eight limbs. I suspect that what happened in this case was that the overseas studio either didn't keep or didn't share the original Jeff model with their teams, and instead only used the "special pose" model of Jeff looking gross. Like a lot of the model stuff, it was a quality control issue. Back then when everything was analog (we still had to deliver on film up through the turn of the century) it was pretty hard to change anything once it had been done. So I'd always say, "next time" and then do a clarity pass over the designs.

Same deal. In the first few seasons, we had analog color correction, where you'd go to a big suite and some guy would run picture and you'd call out anything big that was bugging you. Chances are that we either didn't notice the error, or did and just couldn't do anything about it.

All of those early Mandy smiles were put in overseas, and I wasn't allowed to fix them. It bugged me so much that I vowed to find a way to fix stuff like that myself. I eventually figured out that I could export individual frames to Photoshop, tweak them, and then give them back to the editor. That way I could actually reanimate things that really bugged me but we didn't have the budget to fix.

Anon it's a such a coincidence for me to get this because this was something I actively debated over while creating the ranking.

In fact, originally I had written "4. Jason/Tim (tie?) 5. Tim/Jason (tie)" before I got rid of the slashes and ties.

This is the one part of the ranking that I'm most confused on/don't have an exact answer for. The rest are solid and those I'll be explaining in a different post soon but these two gave me a lot of confusion.

I think what it comes down to is in which shitty way that Bruce treats either of them expresses more love. And to me they're roughly the same in equally but different bad ways.

The secret Bruce talks about is that one irreversible case I mentioned - Gloria/Felipe - where Jason killed a man. Or atleast Bruce suspects he killed a man.

When Jason came back as Red Hood, Batman felt so guilty for the fact that he made Jason robin because then Jason wouldn't have died but also believed that Jason was beyond saving. When Jason was at the hands of the society because of Black Mask who wanted revenge on him for what he did, Bruce almost let Jason die a second time - this time intentionally - before he changed his mind last minute and joined the fight to help him out.

Maybe, but I guess how I would make out their relationship to be is: if Jason acts within Bruce's expectations, then Bruce loves him. If he doesn't then Bruce doesn't hold back hitting and punching. I don't think their relationship is tough love as much as it is conditional love. There are conditions to the way Jason must act in order for Bruce to love him and if he doesn't act that way then he stops caring about his son. He's happy if Jason comes to gatherings but doesn't particularly care if he doesn't. He leaves Jason alone if he follows his rules but actively goes after him if he doesn't. Both in his Robin days and now, Bruce doesn't tolerate Jason if he acts outside expectation but still loves him and although it's not the kind of love you would appreciate, it's also not the kind you can set aside and call it nothing. It's complicated. That's Jason and Bruce's relationship.

Tim on the other hand, he's very proud of. He thinks Tim is excellent, smart, dependable, and loves him very much.

The developing relationship between Bruce and Tim was based originally on need. Bruce needed someone who he could work with and Tim needed someone who could be there for him. As time evolved that need turned into liking which turned into love.

After Jason, Bruce needed someone who listened to him completely. Someone who never questioned him or doubted his orders and Tim was everything Bruce needed and he loved that.

The classic "I trust you but I know better than you" x 10. And it's this thing that gives me doubts because I get this inexplicable sense of distance in their relationship. Bruce loves, trusts, and cares for him but I feel like there's something missing.

This being said, I realize that there's no clear explanation as to why I feel this way so I'll change the ranking back to "tie" for the two of them like I originally had. Because while Bruce loves Jason, he doesn't tolerate him and while Bruce loves Tim, he kinda disregards him in a way. And between these situations, I can't decide what represents more love or favoritism. I guess a part of me just felt really, REALLY bad for the way Bruce treated Jason. That post kinda shredded my heart so I gave him brownie points on the favoritism ranking list but in hindsight, after all this and writing it all out, I think Bruce loves Tim and Jason equally. It's entirely possible Bruce may actually love Tim more because unlike with Jason, I can't provide evidence of Bruce distancing himself from Tim in loving - only left with more of a sense. So in this case I agree with you, anon. It's very possible.

Sitting down in my chair in the council room I was currently the only person in the room. The meeting didn't start for another few minutes and I was getting slower with the pregnancy. My reflexes weren't as sharp and sooner or later others would notice too. I heard footsteps coming around the corner but my shoulders loosened seeing Obi-Wan. He sits down next to me sending me a look. “How are you feeling today, Y/n?”

“I have been throwing up all morning to be honest. I barely made it to this.” I responded to him rubbing my eyes trying to wake myself up.

Obi wan sent me a sad smile. “I'm sorry for causing you discomfort.”

“I don’t regret the night we spent together. I just wish it didn't make me sick every morning.” I reassured my fellow jedi master.

He nodded, clasping his hands together staring at me until we heard more footsteps coming towards the large and open room. I saw Yoda and Windu come inside and the other Jedi master members followed their heels. They sat down in their chairs where I began feeling nervous and twiddled my fingers together in my lap. “Looking at the war effort we have. Need someone to rescue Jabas son we do.”

“Master L/n, we have considered you since you are the most fluent in his language.” Windu explained looking in my direction.

Yoda pointed his finger at me. “Most useful you will be on this you will be.”

“Oh masters, I am not sure I can go.” I stuttered running a hand through my hair feeling my face turning red trying to not make it obvious of the reason why.

Obi wan kept his cool, sitting more upright on his chair. It had been a few months since I had told him I was pregnant with his soon to be child. We knew the rules that we had vowed to the council and the laws that were in place. “Do you care to tell us why that is exactly?”

“Oh uh…I have been feeling sick the last couple of weeks. I suppose it must be a stomach bug.” I clasped my hands together in my lap.

Yoda tapped his fingers on his chin. “Understand it is. Rest and get better you should. Send Kenobi in your place we shall.”

“Forgive me, Master Yoda. But I must back out as well. I have sworn to train some of the younglings months before the war started.” He held his hands up placing his hands on his knees praying that they couldn’t sense his nervousness.

Master Windu rose to his feet but he doesn’t seem angry or suspicious of the responses we had given him. “We understand you’re commitment, Master Kenobi. We will decide someone else to begin the search for Jabba's son to prevent a war with his army against the Republic.”

“Thank you for understanding, Masters.” I bowed my head rising to my feet before leaving the room.

Obi wan had got to his feet too doing the same but he would go in the opposite direction of where I had and wait a few minutes for them to clear the room. Then he would follow me back to my quarters like we had talked about the night before. I sat down on the edge of my bed burying my face in my hands. “We can’t possibly keep this up forever…it’s just not possible.”

“I wish that you weren’t right about that.” Whipping my head towards the voice I saw Obi Wan had slipped his way into my room without me knowing.

Slumping my shoulders I signed laying down on my back counting the lines on the ceiling till he came over and the bed dipped at his new weight. “Obi wan…I didn’t hear you come in.”

“That’s not a bad thing when we have something to hide from the council. I am just glad that they don’t seem to suspect anything.” He responded by running his hands through his locks.

Turning my head in his direction I said what we were both trying not to think about. The fact that we may have to abandon our entire lives here because of the infant. “Obi-Wan, we'll have to leave here won't we?”

“If anyone on the council suspects us. Yes we will have too. I'll have to break my promise to Qui Gon to train Anakin…to honor my promise to remain by your side now and for however long our lives may last.” He interviewed his hands together in his lap.

I paused just watching him take in a few breaths. Obi-Wan and I had been friends for years so it was almost impossible for us to not fall in love with each other. We knew the other inside and out. We were bonded together, possibly even for life. But not yet in marriage. Over the past few weeks I had been deciding I wanted to be given his last name. I wanted my child to be able to address as a full born Kenobi. Reaching up I touched his shoulder making him look at me. “Obi, there's something I wanna do.”

“What is it, my darling?” He asked softly.

Leaning forward I kissed him quietly for a moment and he leaned into the kiss smiling till I drew back. “I know you already asked me to marry you so let’s do it this evening. I wish to become your wife tonight.”

“Who would we get to perform the ceremony?”

“Padme, she and Anakin had R2D2 and C3po do their wedding.” I replied.

Obi wan paused before rising to his feet and he held his hands out to me helping me stand up with him. I squeezed his hands before he leaned down kissing my forehead leaving the room going to find the members that we needed. “I’ll get everything set and ready. I’ll see you in your dress later, Y/n.” As soon as I had told Padme she was over the moon even giving me one of her very first princess dresses to wear as my wedding gown. Obi wan decided that we should get married on the temple roof at sunset which I found very romantic in my opinion.

Padme and Anakin were standing in the center of the roof with Obi wan by his padawan. C-3PO was standing in the center of the group. R2D2 was rolling in front of me, throwing some flowers until he reached the others. Obi wan lifted his head and immediately was at a loss for words seeing me before him. The dress I had on had long sleeves that were made of lace and I had a short heel on with my hair loose except for two strands tired back. Padme wiped away some tears. “I don’t think much needs to be said here. All of us who are here right now know that these two wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t really love one another. So the vows if you would.”

“Y/n, I love you more than I thought I could anyone. And I have to say I am so grateful that I now join my life with yours.” Obi wan intertwined my hands with his, slipping the wedding band on my ring finger.

Squeezing my hands that were holding mine I chuckled, slipping the band on his finger trying to not cry too much on the borrowed dress from my best friend. “I love you to the stars, Obi. I know we didn’t plan the baby. But we have always been a good pair together so I am so excited to be your wife after today.”

“It is my great pleasure to now pronounce you husband and wife.” Padme declares looking at Anakin.

He smiled between the two of us. “Obi-wan and Y/n Kenobi sounds rather good to me.”

i know you didn't mean anything bad by it, but it really discouraged me to see you rb that anti-reader-insert post. i write and enjoy both reader-insert and shipfic (my 2016 baby-in-fandom roots were in shipfic, but i'm pretty active in the reader-insert community as well these days). i really look up to you as both a current med student would to a resident (i'm an m2) and a writer would to a more-experienced/established writer, so i guess seeing you agree with a post that disparages a part of the fanfic community that we both engage in made me feel upset.

i definitely understand where people come from when they complain about xreader fics flooding the tags. i've felt that exasperation and annoyance of scrolling through the tags both on ao3 and tumblr, searching for fanart or shipfics of my favorite characters, only to be inundated with reader-insert works that i'm not in the mood to read. so, i get it.

i guess my point is: i look up to you. i really enjoy your writing. and because of my parasocial connection to you (i.e., enjoyment of your fandom takes and writing), it hurt my feelings that you seem to hold a pretty negative opinion about a side of the fandom writing community that i happen to pour a lot of myself into.

please don't feel pressured to respond to this at all-- residency is hard enough without some random anon on the internet nagging at you about some random reblog that is not nearly as important as patient care or saving lives. i don't even really know what the purpose of telling you this was; i'm not trying to change your opinion about reader-insert or anything like that. i think i just wanted to let you know how i felt seeing your reblog, with no expectations that you do anything with that information /gen. but yeah. i hope you're able to get some rest and take some time for yourself soon, and i look forward to continuing to your fics in the future.

Hey, there anon! First of all, it may make you feel better to know that I actually have absolutely nothing against x reader fics at a baseline. It's not my thing, I don't read it, but I don't have enough of an opinion on it to dislike it. I'm a big proponent of "write what you want" and while I've never written x reader content, I've roleplayed plenty of canon x OC ships back in the day, and write a lot of stuff that needs the dead dove tag. This post, to my understanding and in my intent, was meant to express humorous frustration with the ongoing issue specifically of a lot of x reader fics (particularly in the last several months, I suspect either because of Tiktok or due to Twitter's downward spiral) being tagged with irrelevant tags. I've actually had to ask on multiple posts something like "Why is this tagged with [canon ship]?"

Most people have kindly removed the tag and explained that they thought it was good exposure and didn't realize that wasn't how things work on Tumblr, which is great, but it's still frustrating that it's hard to scroll through a lot of tags without seeing lengthy and explicit x reader fics that are either tagged with unrelated ships/characters/fandoms, or undertagged with blockable x reader tags.

Even if I did dislike x reader, though, I just want to emphasize to you: I really appreciate that you look up to me and I'm really happy that I'm able to provide some encouragement to you in the form of someone with a similar creative hobby on the same career path, but also, my opinions on matters of personal taste really don't matter. I am, at the end of the day, A Random Person On The Internet Who Has A Blog, and I encourage you to look at opinions of mine that grate on you and think: "Eh. Just another random person I don't happen to agree with. Whatever, I guess." and move on, because in the long run this will be more fair to both yourself and me. There are indeed actually popular but harmless parts of fandom that I'm growing to dislike a little bit, and it feels strange to be unable to casually refer to or joke about that without being worried that it will hurt someone's feelings that I don't personally like the same thing they do. This is actually some of why I'm on Tumblr and not Twitter - the parasocial issues tend to be stronger on there! I confess that I don't really know exactly what to do about this problem yet, but I'm going to endeavor to not censor myself (as long as I'm not being a dick, ofc) while also encouraging people to not put me up on too much of a pedestal.

This is kinda stupid but as a Zelda expert I wonder if you'd have any tips for me. I got BOTW like years ago bc I'm obsessed with all the content that came out of it but with a combo of general anxiety + the fact that I am egregiously bad at playing video games I have uhh barely played it. I kind of had the same issue with Stardew Valley of all games b/c the mines gave me anxiety until I was given tips for getting through them quickly. Now I really do wanna finish BOTW bc if I can finish then reasonably I should be physically capable of playing TOTK???

i think that botw can be a particularly overwhelming first play bc of the sheer size of the world and the lack of guidance, but just so you know most of that anxiety you're feeling is unfounded. despite how much it builds itself up in-game as having very difficult combat situations, botw is a relatively easy game in terms of combat difficulty, and you can actually avoid a good amount of combat altogether once you get off the plateau. like with almost any open-world enemy you can just run away and they'll eventually stop chasing you with no fight needed. but the open world enemies also become stupid easy once you get some halfway decent weapons and armor. i suspect you're probably just stuck in plateau purgatory where everything is hard by virtue of you having very few hearts and shit equipment. this is unfortunately the only segment of the game where you CAN'T really set your own pace and have to do things in a certain way, but there are only four shrines to complete and the second you complete them everything gets way easier, i promise. if you ARE off the plateau and still feeling that anxiety, it might be helpful to nail down some objectives to combat that open-world-endless-possibilities fear factor. i would suggest focusing on building up your heart count with shrines (you can find them pretty easily by climbing sheikah towers at night and looking for their orange glow) since having more hearts is going to make everything a lot less difficult for you in general (i wouldn't bother with stamina in early game, get a decent heart count first. at least 13.) as well as building up your armor and weapon stashes to a point where you're confident enough with menial enemies. getting as much of the map as you can in early-game is also really helpful because it makes it much easier to find and access points of interest like villages. you might try practicing archery or swordsmanship if you're really concerned about that element--there are several in-game training spots that you can utilize basically as much as you want in order to get the button combos down. then once you're confident enough in your abilities you can switch gears to the main quest (divine beasts!) and just remember, there's no wrong way to play video games and there's no penalty for deaths or failures. if link dies all the game does is drop you back into your last autosave, and botw's autosave is so good that you probably won't even lose any progress. no one is going to get mad at you if it takes you a few deaths to beat a boss. no one is going to get mad at you if you need to google walkthroughs to beat bosses or puzzles. your gameplay experience should be enjoyable, and whatever accommodations you have to make for yourself in order to make it enjoyable are fine! there's no reason to suffer through something that could be made easier just for the sake of doing it right.

Plastic Women: So, what is my point?

A note for those who somehow would like to hear more from me about the video

The mega video started out as a final essay assignment for a children's media college class. The prompt was ten pages on a topic related to children's media that tied into one of our weekly discussions. Being as obsessed with ninjago as I am, I was obviously going to write about it, and one of our weekly topics had to do with children's media's relationship to gender. I had a lot of thoughts on the female characters of the show, so I decided this essay would be a good opportunity to get those off my chest. Plastic Women: Female Representation in Lego Ninjago was the end result. It was a good essay- maybe I'll post it some time. The only problem was that my initial first draft was nearly a dozen pages long- and I had only just finished my thoughts on Nya. I decided that a paper analyzing the arc of the central female character would be perfectly adequate for the assignment, tightened things up a bit, and submitted it. I knew as soon as I did that the rest of my thoughts would have to come out- and that's what the four hours you've(presumably) watched is.

Being that the original point of the essay was to fulfill an assignment requirement, pinpointing the end goal of the video was a weirdly difficult struggle in the production process. I knew I had a lot of thoughts about the women, I knew it felt important that they get out into the world, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why. Why is this so important? What's my point in making this? Why do I have this drive behind things? I offer up a couple explanations in my video. Part of it was to help improve consciousness of these issues, to stress that female representation is actually important in male targeted media. To help encourage better practices for the show's future, to get people think analytically about the media they consume. These explanations seemed to satisfy me, and I still think they're all very important and valid, but even as I sat down to record the outro, there was this nagging feeling that I hadn't quite gotten to the core of why I was making this. What was driving me to put in a year and a half of effort, scripting, refilms, and endless, endless editing in order to get this out? Because while I do care about all of those things, it doesn't ignite that same passion source of where this video is coming from.

Unfortunately, the realization only really hit me after posting the video- after reading the comments. Unfortunately, the negative ones. I don't want to overstate how much hate the video has gotten, it has been widely well received, but I have my fair share of suspected (or self described) children and pre teens calling me an idiot for overthinking things in the comments. Some of these are obviously only responding to the title and thumbnail, and it's quite fun to scroll through the comment section and point them out. But of the people who have the most plausible deniability for actually watching at least part of the video, the most common criticism was by far the run time. Why am I dedicating this much time to a show which is obviously not a raging hate letter towards women? I'm labeling this thing as sexist when there's a whole season of the lead female fighting sexism. There are so many worse things that might deserve this run time, but ninjago can not be that bad. This is obviously ridiculous.

Now there are a couple of responses I have to this sentiment. First of all, the series is insanely long. I have to not only analyze, but explain all 15 seasons for those who (understandably) haven't watched it all or aren't as obsessive as I am. That's gonna take some time regardless of what angle you're doing a deep dive on. Have you seen the length of some of the show recap videos alone? Second, the video as a whole is a retrospective, not purely a criticism. I spend quite a bit of the run time praising the things which I do like and shrugging at things I think are passable. Third, I state up front that I am purposely looking for all interpretations of the text, because they are all interpretations that a young audience could potentially take away. Even if it's not surface level, if it's one or two layers down, I'm still interested. That means it's not logical to blanketly call the show sexist, because it's not openly promoting these ideas, and that was never my goal, I think I made that clear. In many ways I believe that if this were a "Ninjago is sexist" video it would be a lot shorter. Part of why the runtime is so long is because there is a great deal of nuance to how this show treats its female characters, and nuance takes time. If it were as simple as "Ninjago is obviously misogynistic" I would point to the problem spots and we wouldn't need a discussion. I wouldn't have to analyze. It would just be a statement of fact. But that's why the video's title is much less specific and accusatory. "More misogynistic than you remember" is a lot more open ended. It has some misogyny in there, and it's more than your child brain likely noticed. That doesn't mean it's necessarily overwhelming or defining for the series, it just means that it's there- and that amount is going to differ depending on the viewer and their personal interpretations of the text. I for one thought that the Racer 7 plot line was an obvious dismissal of female struggle, but apparently it's not as clear a universal a reading as I thought. Maybe it's my life experience as a women in a male dominated field that put that front and center under a undeniable spotlight for me, but that doesn't mean that's the universal experience of the show, nor should it count against the show so strongly as I feel it.

But this criticism is finally what made it click for me. I'm not criticizing the show because it's obviously sexist. Quite the opposite. I'm criticizing it because it is trying to not be sexist. I'm criticizing the show because it wants to be progressive, it's trying to include female characters, it is including messages and plotlines specifically to try and uplift women- and it's failing.

I am past the point of feeling the need to point out that andrew tate is wrong for seeing women as lesser. That's not an interesting take, that's not a new idea, and if you need that told to you, you are likely beyond help from a youtube video. I am not here to dabate if female representation is valuable, I am taking that fact as a given because it is a conclusion which I feel is inherently correct. If you have not yet come to this same conclusion, the purpose of this video is not to convince you that it is. That can be someone else's job. This is not a 101 class, it's got some prerequisites, because without them, you aren't going to appreciate my points. I am interested in giving ideas to people who already know their basics. It's not my fault if you're a few decades behind in your ideas on film theory. The efficacy of what constitutes positive female representation has already been debated and outlined for decades by people much smarter than me. I am not here to make their points, I am here to make my own.

I'm not here to point out the problems of blatant sexism, because that has been litigated to death; I'm interested in the problems of sexism today- because yes, even when sexism isn't blatant, it's still a problem. I am interested in breaking down subtle sexism. Accidental sexism. Systemic sexism. Sexism from people who are trying to be inclusive, because they are the ones who will actually take feedback. The sexism that is baked into our media culture, so deeply ingrained that it seems rather acceptable to show sexual assault on a kid's show. I am interested in why a show which so obviously repeatedly tries to incorporate feminist ideas into its plot can so easily rid its female characters of agency. It's not that I made the video to say something about ninjago, it's that I made the video to say something about sexism in media, and used ninjago as my example. It. Is. Everywhere. And perhaps even worse, it is ridiculously easy to accidentally end up in your work.

I do hint at these ideas throughout the run of my video, but I really wish I had known this was where my drive was coming from at the outset, because if I had, this idea would be pressed constantly. Tropes older than the film medium seep into the most basic of plots and position females in passive roles by default, and if you don't know that, you are going to ingrain these ideas into your work. It might not be blatant, it might be quite subtle, but it may also snowball into something egregious, like happens in skybound. It was supposed to be a season (partially)about fighting sexism, but ends up framing our lead female as an object, removing all her agency, and turning our leading man into an extremely objectifying character who never grows out of his possessive behaviors. Like I say at the beginning, this is a cautionary tale. It's active proof that doing the bare minimum in not being offensive in female representation requires an amount of effort that many people don't realize is necessary. It is almost never that the show outright says something sexist, it's that the plot structure and character progression do not think to include its female characters. It is not the text, it's the subtext. And you might not think that subtext is influential, but the very fact that you think it's not is the most terrifying thing about it. Our brains absorb so much more than we know, and the fact that these patterns and stereotypes are seeping in subconsciously without our recognizing it, is perhaps even more dangerous than outwardly sexist media in some cases. Consistency in these patterns is bound to rewire your brain- and you won't even notice.

That's the point I think I failed to emphasize throughout the run. How easy it is. How ridiculously easy it is to fall into these problems. "it's like you see sexism everywhere!" well, yes. It is everywhere. That's the point. It's baked into our culture. It's a corner stone in our media. It's systemic. That's the problem- that it's near impossible to find something that doesn't have it because it's a founding principle of most of human culture. That's why reverse sexism is not nearly as big a deal btw. Sure, shows aimed at little girls have a lot of underdeveloped male love interests, but they also haven't been stuck in that position for centuries upon centuries of human storytelling.

I don't feel the need to prove that the label of misogynist or sexist is befitting of the whole series, because for one, it's not, and for two, that wouldn't do anything. Ninjago is a symptom of the problem. It is not the problem in and of itself. Blacklisting it for being bad doesn't help anything, and I think I made it abundantly clear that was never my intention or desire. My intention was to show you just how prevalent this casual sexism can be. How this subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) undercurrent can be found in something as unexpected as a children's show which actively brags about the strength of its female characters. The goal was to open your eyes to how consistent it is, even if it's not potent. It was to lay out how the patterns tend to present themselves, so that maybe you'll be able to better identify them elsewhere. Because they are elsewhere. They're everywhere. It may not be in as high a dosage as it used to, but collectively it is still a staggering, saturating amount. And if you are an artist looking to make something that doesn't have this subtext, I'm here to warn you that it is likely a steeper up hill battle than you initially presume.

Misogyny is everywhere. I just happen to know a lot about ninjago, so that's where I chose to go in depth in breaking it down. It's a case study- and I think a quite interesting one with a lot of nuance at that. It's what I felt I could contribute, and I have to believe that's enough to justify its existence.

I'm so glad I discovered your blog! It's nice to see people have similar opinions on LN. Tbh, he was the cast member I was most concerned about when I initially saw (what I consider to be) the poor writing (and editing) of P2 because he doesn't have the same body of work that the others do to point to and say, see, it's not me! I also think he's going about his career all wrong, but it doesn't seem to occur to him that he is? It's very strange, maybe he's surrounded by yes-men? I genuinely think he's one serious dramatic role away from setting up a steady career for himself, but at the same time suspect that his team is putting him forward for trash projects that ultimately won't do anything for him in the long run.

I actually think he should age up his styling/demeanor because the way he's presenting is too young. I know that the conventional wisdom in acting is to stay up for younger roles as long as possible. However, the issue is that there's a sizeable crop of older Gen Z/Zillenial actors who are killing it right now and if he's going up against them in auditions, he just isn't going to book those parts. What there is, on the other hand, is a vacuum in the 30-something bracket that he could slot into nicely (if he and his team were smart) now that the Redmayne generation has aged out. There's so much he could've done to capitalize on his current popularity, but he's descended into a glorified model. Only booking an animated film and a play with how big the show has been is... weird to say the least. It certainly isn't due to a lack of talent. No short films, even as a favor to a friend? No music videos? Hell, a smart manager would've had him at least drop an EP or do a duet with a reasonably popular singer. He doesn't have any friends who are writers/directors to make a push to get a project made for himself? He's in a position now to try something like that, but I'm not sure he knows it. It all feels like he's spinning his wheels right now.

As to the young gf, on some level, if he's not ready for certain things, I'd actually rather he not waste the time of someone his own age because that's when women start to think about major life milestones and all that sort of stuff. He clearly has some things he needs to get out of his system first. Appreciate you!

I am also very confused as to what Luke is trying to do with his career. I guess from the outside looking in, it seems like he can't get it together, or figure out what direction he wants to go in.

But I am also not in his industry and don't exactly know the ins-and-outs of how everything is done. While I can take note that it seems like he may be spiralling, or confused as to where to take his career, at the end of the day I have NO idea what he is thinking and doing behind the scenes.

His industry is also a very hard one, even when you have a name behind you. It is very competitive so I can sympathize and also wonder if he is auditioning for things but just not getting any call backs.

I also think that some of the drama that he has found himself in has probably set him back professionally behind the scenes, and I think that laying low and not causing too much of a scene may be a good thing (if he doesn't have any jobs lined up).

But then going to smaller events and keeping his name out there a little may also keep the peace for a while, not cause issues and focusing on putting his name in the good graces of professionals and industry folk.

Another thing that could be happening is that he does have some things in the works but he is not allowed to talk about them at the moment. While I don't really have too much hope for this, it could be true! Or maybe he is just happy to wait for Bridgerton season 4 and is only waiting on that to start back up again.

I don't really agree with your statement about him dating young women because age appropriate woman are thinking about milestones. Or that he would be wasting their time. I don't love the narrative that it creates. When you start any relationship you should always voice what you are looking for, your needs, your wants and what direction you see it going/want it to go, communication is key.

But I think that many women who are Luke's age can also be looking for the same thing that he is or are also trying to work through things. Just because you are a woman doesn't automatically mean you want to settle down, have a family, get married. I know lots of women Luke's age that don't want any of that right now.

Most of my friends who are having children are in their late 30s. It's not uncommon for people to start a family at that age anymore. So even if Luke decided to date someone in their late 20s, it would be age appropriate, and I'm positive that he could find one that was on the same page as him emotionally, professionally, and there wouldn't be such a power imbalance.

(also I appreciate you as well! I love a good dialogue between people. It gives different perspectives and even if I don't agree with certain things, doesn't mean I don't want to hear what others think! So thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts, and joining in on the conversation)

• He might even harvest an organ or two of yours if you stop running up on sensing him regardless to ensure a part of you will always be with him and to ensure you're in too weak shape to pull that stunt again.

• He'll scream at you until you break down into sobs or scream back that you were trying to avoid issues.

• In the latter he'll probably freeze for a minute before screaming that you left him and all that did was cause problems.

• You will have to apologize for hours until he calms down. And then daily afterwards for quite some time.

• Expect to be restrained or clung to any walking moment. He can't have you leaving him again.

• Also expect to be treated roughly for the upcoming weeks because the likelihood of him being soft with you is slim.

• Think claws digging into your skin as he holds you to his chest or as you are walking around.

• If you push him away or start acting coldly towards him in an attempt to make him hate you then the opposite will most likely happen first.

• He'll start treating you as if you're made of glass. Checking in and asking how you're doing/what's wrong all while taking notes on your vitals he can sense as he does so.

• If this works and you talk to him then things will be resolved and your insecurities reassured. If not, you are on thin fucking ice.

• He'll try to be patient and calm. Essentially trying to lure you back in and keep you in a relatively happy healthy relationship and state of being.

• If these attempts fail however I suspect he would start mirroring your behavior. Acting as if he doesn't care and giving you the same treatment you've given him.

•He'll begin stirring in his insecurities and eventually he will become paranoid of you hating him and attempting to leave him. Then you'll be treated as if you had left him.

Laughing Jack

• If you think that you got away you didn't.

• More likely than not you are simply in an illusion as he tries to decide what to do with you.

•He could eat you. Or lock you up to make sure you are always by his side.

• What ends up happening depends entirely on how you're reacting to your so-called escape.

• If you seem happier than you were with him he will probably eat you or turn you into a permanent attraction to his circus, a nice new pinata if you catch my drift.

• However a few meltdowns and you'll most likely just spend a couple weeks with him in his realm until he's sure you won't leave for real

• Man's has abandonment issues and blatantly so. So if you do just run he's more likely to be hurt and angry and less concerned with your well being.

• In fact you won't be able to try and reassure him for a while because if you get too close he might accidentally kill you with three deep slashes from his nails in your abdomen as he screams at you to stay away.

• A lot of sitting across from one another as he stares or screams at you to the point where you may wish you'd actually ran away.

•Definitely the least stable in this situation. Think screaming one minute and whispering begging you to stay the next.

•Actively attacking you if you get too close complaining that you won't hold him the next.

• To be completely honest I don't know if you guys would ever get back to normal if you behaved this way.

• Additionally, if you tried to make him hate you by being cold, distant, and rude he would first try to cheer you up then if his efforts failed he'd try to comfort you but if both are unsuccessful he'd eventually start treating you the same and once that happens again you're in danger of him killing you because you aren't any fun anymore.

Ben Drowned

•One of the more gentle about it ones but don't let that get to your head.

• Once again if you thought you got away you didn't because this man is stalking you constantly even when you guys are in the best part of your relationship.

• That man is a screen behind you the entire time. It doesn't matter if you are traveling by horseback to an abandoned cabin way off grid he is hopping nearby towns rapidly because one day you'll need supplies.

• and He will find you the second you do and pull you into the digiverse with him which is where you'll live now.

• Unlike the others he won't scream or yell at you instead he'll essentially attach himself to you.

• Slinking his arms around your chest, shoulders, sides, waist, wherever he can get his hands and he'll stay there until you complain about the weight of his body dragging on yours in causing you pain.

• He may also alternatively carry you instead of clinging to your being otherwise after you complain or whenever he feels like it.

• The only signs of his anger at you leaving is if you ask to leave and go back to the "real" world, or if you complain about him clinging to you in any other way then "Ben this hurts" after a decent amount of time where you'd be expected for it to hurt.

• In which case he'll grip you tighter and glitch against you as he tells you that this is only happening because you left and this is the only way he can ensure you never do so again.

• Or if you've said enough to really piss him off he'll leave you alone in this blank digital void until you beg him to come back.

• If you try to explain yourself he'll either stop you by saying that it doesn't matter cause you'll never do it again or he'll listen in silence before clinging to you and telling you he's sorry he made you feel that way and any issues you have you guys can work out together.

Jeff the Killer

• Especially if you had been adjusting well previously because obviously you're a liar and never loved him.

• You can cry and plead all you want but it'll fall on mostly deaf ears.

• If you're lucky he'll just horribly mutilate you, thinking he killed you, but on further inspection you won't be dead and then he'll haul you back to the mansion and have someone fix you up.

• Once you're healed you'll most likely be thrown into a dungeon, locked up for "re-training."

• Where he will thoroughly break you into an obedient mindless husk of your former self with no identifiable personality.

• a pet if you will.

• His ass will not notice the signs leading up to your attempted escape. After all he talks so much he doesn't notice when you go silent and he is focused on anything but your emotions.

• While he saw something in you incredibly interesting his perception of emotions is wildly morphed after all he doesn't percieve emotions correctly himself. Pain makes him laugh and he finds what most find disturbing incredibly visually pleasing. That applies to you as well. Ie: you're tracing a scar from his knife he left on you with a frown he thinks you miss his blade against your skin or how passionate you two were when you both first met and will therefore bring out his blade or show you some passion.

• So he won't notice any of the signs and since he's finally allowed you to wander around with him instead of being chained somewhere if you run away regardless of the signs he will just be pissed.

• He'll act in a rage and horribly mutilate if not flat out kill you.

Homicidal Liu

• Much more tolerant than his brother but not necessarily less violent.

• I feel like Liu and Sully would give you a day or two to come back on your own. 2 if overnight trips had previously been allowed for you.

• If you don't come back however... 60/100 chance of survival.

• Survival chances depend entirely on which alter finds you and how you react.

• If it's Liu, so long as you run into his arms crying, apologizing, and explaining yourself after he calls out to you, you'll be fine but if you try to outrun him or make any moves away from him and you'll probably trigger a switch in which Sully will come out and I doubt you'd escape him unscathed or even breathing.

• If Sully finds you however you will have until he starts to talking to convince him not to kill you. One of the ways being if you run over to him and clung to him the second you notice him. It might trigger a switch to Liu and even if it doesn't Sully will dig his nails into your sides or hair and as he inhales he'll calm down enough for you to apologize. But if you try to explain to Sully before he's calm enough to discuss it with you himself, he'll call you a liar and slam your head into the nearest surface until you're limp and silent.

• Also if you try to interrupt Sully's monologue as he approaches you he'll choke you until he's finished but if you wait more than 3 seconds to speak afterwards he'll go "What!? Nothing to say!? You're worse than all of them who made us this way..." Before lunging at you and killing you with his bare hands watching your blood drip from your veins and the light fade from your eyes.

•If you survive they'll take you home, make you a meal, and then drag you to bed placing their entire body weight into you mumbling about how they hadn't slept since you left.

• They'll ask you about it after things have settled and your back with them where you belong. A week or so with the new rules in place.

• He doesn't want a mindless pet, the reason he likes you so much is because you make him feel like who he was before the accident, loved, and accepted. So they won't break you but they will restrict "privileges". Such as no more closing doors, public outings, or unsupervised times for the foreseeable future.

• If you try pushing him away you'll send him into a spiral.

• He's the most susceptible to this because he'll start feeling like you don't give two flying fucks about him after all and seeing as you remind him of before his traumas he may regress.

• You can expect several outbursts from Sully trying to hurt you or force you away from him because he's the trauma holder and by treating him coldly he's forced to relive some of his traumas.

Ticci-Toby

• You are his favorite person, and you left him. Tsk tsk reader, bad move.

• We also know his outbursts tend to be angry/agressive so chances are while attempting to pin you to something with his hatchet he might pin you to a tree through the square of your chest and you'll die. Therefore your best chance at survival is best if he finds your packed bags or comes back right as you were about to leave. Pray he's in a manic high and not a manic low.

• If you successfully start running away from him worst case scenario, he will chase after you and possibly accidentally kill you within 24 hrs, purely out of his blind anger and panic. He'll cry over your body saying it was an accident and he didn't mean to over and over until he calms down enough to bury you afterwards. Best case, he'll miss and you'll trip over his axe or he'll pin your pant leg to the ground. Then he'll take you home and your legs will be broken in such a way that you won't be able to walk without crutches ever again because how else can he ensure you're unable to leave him while still keeping the parts he loves about you the most.

• if you're really good at hiding and you manage to avoid him for a couple of weeks to let the crash really set in, you may be able to reason with him and survive essentially unscathed, though your insane if you think he's going to let things return to where they used to be, you aren't leaving his side ever again.

• if he walks in as you are leaving he'll either laugh at you and ask you what you think you're doing. Or he'll drag you back to him by your hair if he thinks you're leaving him and you don't walk yourself back to his side in a timely manner. Like see him, drop back, walk over, in that order within 10 seconds. Or a mixture of both.

• If he finds your packed bags it is going to cause a blowup fight. Think of him screaming, crying, throwing the shit you had packed around the house.

• or he'll drop your bag in front of you agressively in silence, which is when your best chance of talking about it arises. If you don't blowup fight will occur.

• Unlike some of the others, he'll notice the signs. If you try pushing him away chances are he'll first assume you're having a rough go of it and try to cheer you up.

• Then he'll assume he did something wrong or you guyd have a problem and start asking about it because as unhinged and unpredictable as he is, he generally tries to communicate. He doesn't want to end up anymore like his dad than he already is.

• though he may ask bluntly "What's up with you/us?"

• Regardless I recommend that you open up when he approaches you. Take the olive branch or suffer the consequences of him being upset and angry at both himself and you. More aggressive outbursts, cold behavior even when seeking affection, etc.

Tim/Masky

• He'll notice something is up immediately and start investigating it.

• He'll figure it out and fix it.

• And if he somehow misses it, he got too busy at work or his game was off a week, he will find out you're planning on leaving before you leave

• He found your packed bag and emptied it and when you repacked it later and he found it's new hiding spot he just took it.

• He'll see you as you're rummaging for your bag and hold it up in front of you and say "Looking for this, (y/n)? What were you planning, hm?"

• He'll then laugh at you as you sputter or if you lie and tell him nothing

• You will tell him one way or another. He assured you of that and informed you that it'll be in your best interest to just let him know now.

• If you comply he'll keep up his persona created specially for you and snuggle up to you spewing out words to comfort you.

• After all appearances are important to him and while to you it'll appear as nothing has changed he will be keeping closer tabs on you. Ie: you tagging along to paperwork work days and more cameras hidden in gifts. Maybe going as far as putting trackers on you.

• Anything else however and that will immediately drop.

• He'll lock you up for a few days and then ask again and this process will continue until you are honest with him but once he lets you out you will be expected to go with him everywhere that he goes.

• If you somehow still manage to run away you may get farther than you expected to just to be dragged back once you stop for the night or knocked out from behind and taken home only to wake up with a bruise and a cold cloth to your forehead as Masky goes "we need to talk" through gritted teeth.

Brian/Hoodie

• Knows something is wrong, doesn't know what, doesn't approach you about it because if it matters he expects you to tell him. If you're pushing him away he'll give you the space he thinks you're asking for to the best of his ability.

• Instead, he tries treating you as gently as he is capable and doing things to attempt to cheer you up. Ie: bringing home your favorite food, drink, trinkets that made him think of you. Offerings to you so you'll show different signs, ones of love, appreciation, wanting to stay.

•Even going as far as too avoid you when he feels an episode coming on.

• If you still try to run away I think his reaction would be a more even mix of upset than angry. He tried to encourage you to talk to him from his pov, tried to change this outcome and now he still has to hunt after you.

• Once he finds you, he will simply stalk you for a while. Watching you, waiting to see if you'll notice him, and waiting for the right moment to take you home.

• He doesn't want to force you to come back, he'd much prefer to be a hero in your eyes than a monster so he'd wait until you broke down then swoop in to comfort you. But I give him a week before his patience runs out and you wake up chained up as Hoodie stares straight through you before getting up and leaving the room.

• Then he'd return and leave periodically untill you decided to talk about it.

• Unlike with some of the others, (Masky, Toby, LJ) your physical needs will still be provided in this aftermath.

• Most likely to understand where you're coming from, reassure you, and then have things go back to a form of normal with no further changes or consequences.

Gregor would be a dust phantom in these which informs how he interacts with some characters. He and Chris are the only ones who can directly converse with Mon whenever. Gregor would still have an edge to him and have the whole complex he had in the original story - amplified by the fact that he is currently in some half-dead half alive state due to his powers

Johny would be jealous of other people still having their powers. Johny and Gregor would argue the most out of all his siblings but he's closest to Gregor

Cir would mostly be how she acted in the original run. No Mia though since they were somehow able to split apart so Cir tries out different secret identities but she's not very good at it despite everyone's help. She's probably the most positive one here

Jon Lane. he's mostly the same, still has some edge after development, Cir and Jon Lane found themselves in the same plane of non-existence and were somehow brought back idk. Anyways he mostly keeps to himself since he feels guilty about his past

Jimmy Olsen: he's Jimmy Olsen. In this the whole sun/son thing happens right before all the Hal Rand thinking he's Mark Olsen stuff. but he's basically same jimmy as always. Family friend status. also mark and hal are married in this continuity. knows a lot about Cadmus stuff

Secundus: give him all of Kon & Jonathan's insecurities multiplied by 10. Since he's kind of a combination of both AND there's plenty of other people who'd accept being Superman

Chris Kent: he still has abandonment issues. Due to Nightwing powers he can directly talk to phantom zoners without the phantom zone viewer.

Jonathan Samuel Kent: feels a bit awkward about all this. The Ultraman thing happened so he has trauma from that. the others don't understand why he went with Jor in the first place. Jealous of the twins the most

Otho & Osul: still have Warworld trauma. still a bit worried about the old god thing. they tend to get along with everyone well, but all their siblings have hangups with how Clark handled being a parent or how Clark wasn't able to be a parent to them, which leaves them a bit confused on how to feel about their siblings

Conner Kent: an adaptation of YJTV conner, so he's a bit quicker to anger

Van-Zee; looks up to Clark, has a close bond to Ak-Var

Sylvia DeWitt, trained a bit in Klurkor; has powers under a yellow sun due to Van-Zee's serum. She's more reserved than Lois

Dik-Zee: generally a chill dude but a bit of a slacker, but it doesn't really affect his job much due to the thought type writers. he's a bit of a romantic as well. Generally wears a superman suit whenever though because of Van's twins

Ak-Var, married into the family. Happy that most of them accept him since the red K incident.

Thara Gem-Zee; likes learning about Kryptonian history, which is why she likes talking to Ak-Var who lived on Krypton before it blew up

Don-El; he's more serious and tries always being professional. Unfortunately he's also the first to suspect Ak if there's any a slightest chance of Ak-Var becoming a criminal again, which is unfortunate for Ak-Var

Rad-Zee; generally keeps to himself in a lab. doesn't like Van's twins because of their shenanigans

Kara Zor-El: more brash than Clark. Due to having both sets of parents alive and being in a different city, she doesn't visit often. More likely to be seen in Kandorian or Kryptonian celebrations than Earth ones though sometimes her whole family visits Clark's on Earth holidays

Judy/Equila gained her powers back and her grandparents started living on Earth as well. They take care of Judy while Kara is busy since Judy likes being with Kara

Clark's siblings (& their kids):

Cory Renwald; since he's a government agent, he's usually busy. Doesn't know Clark is Superman, but knows they have a connection. Trusts Clark's judgement on things, but feels Clark's too much of a goody two shoes. Doesn't really visit due to being busy but he'll try if he has time

Kral of Titan: succeeded in his revolution on Titan, which feels awkward for him since he feels guilty about thinking of betraying superboy (clark). Since everyone's a telepath on titan, everyone there knows this, but they built a statues to honor him anyways. Also learned that the temperature control gene is recessive (this is to connect it better to losh). Tries visiting often to escape the awkward situation he put himself in, but has to deal with making sure things don't go back to how it was during Clark's Smallville days

Kathy Warren; busy with Cadmus work usually. Doesn't feel like she has to hide her super intelligence anymore and feels like Cadmus has people she can relate to that don't alienate her

Kon-El; tries to be his own man, still has some of the complexes he's had before but he's getting better at handling them. Specifically remembers the Kents being alive so it's weird that he finds that in this continuity they're dead

Martha: time travel brings a future version of the baby that Kon was co-parenting on gemworld. She feels like Kon abandoned her. Kon can't really argue against that

Mighto/Tim Tate: Blames Clark/Kal for the death of his parents. Generally unpleasant to be around. More reserved on the Kents' death day (most of Clark's siblings meet up at their graves), Mighto does not attack on that day, despite all his flaws, Tim loved the Kents

Varl Quoz: Sometimes either he or the Kents/Els travel to Xenon though they make sure they always have enough fuel and spare parts to travel to and from it. The former weakling world is also used for people to live on. Varl and Kal get along well but due to Clark's privacy, the rest of the family is unsure of the whole situation (Varl explains later during their second or third vacation there)

Mon: he's still stuck in the phantom zone. Sometimes he makes asides, or attempts to help the family. Gregor and Chris are closest to him due to actually being able to talk whenever with him. Mon is grateful for this since this means he has more to do than absolutely nothing

Halk Kar: a bit insecure due to having lesser powers than Superman and thinking he was stronger when he thought he was Superman's brother. Is usually space traveling so he only visits on rare occasions

Mae: generally the same, except she lives with Linda. also in this continuity she's made by this universe's Lex (he was using an alternate identity) & Kathy while they were both working at Cadmus

Linda: generally the same except she keeps the Earth Angel powersTwilight: lives with Linda and Mae. uses her darkness powers similarly to how the Earth Angels use their powers (wings and blasts)

Blithe & Comet: live with Linda & Mae

Ariella: raised mainly by Linda and Mae. she's worse than Van's twins in how much chaos she can cause, which is, at least one of, the reasons why the others live with Linda and Mae

H'El: hates clones. has super op powers. Respects Jor so he doesn't attack on days that Jor-El discovered something which luckily is a lot of days. nobody likes him which makes him even mopier. Sometimes he crashes on someone else's couch just to angst about it and complain about everything. everyone else here finds him annoying

Rogol Zaar: everyone else here hates him - including Mighto and H'El. it's because he's the only one that doesn't care for Jor or the Kents (Mighto thinks you should respect your parents; despite H'El's breakdown he still is kryptonian and respects Jor). He is never invited

Sam: war criminal

Lucy: somehow a combination of post-IC, Pre-crisis & Post-crisis Lucy. I'll figure it out. Anyways she has supernaturally white hair due to some jimmy olsen stuff that happened. In the end she married Ron and has a son with him

Sam Troupe: friends with the super kids, most notably john and chris. Is really confused about everything since john and chris are suddenly older than him, so he hangs out with the super-twins now

Leonardo: has a bit of a rivalry with Cory. Cory tries to ignore it

Laurel Kent manhunter and Laurel Kent real person coexist. the manhunter decides to be an antihero and later hangs out with Dev-Em

Can you debunk the idea that gender identity has a biological basis? I’ve seen studies that claim this but reading through them I always end up with the sense that something doesn’t quite line up (for ex some will reference things like brain sex which immediately raises red flags for me) but I’m not great at understanding statistics (yet) and have a really hard time in general getting through academic papers. Of course, if there is actual evidence for the idea then I’d be open to learning that too. Thank you in advance!

Of course!

So, most of the argument for a biological basis of transgender identity lies in the idea of brain sex (e.g., having a "female brain" in a "male body"). However, there is little to no evidence supporting this idea as I discuss in this post. The main point of that post was:

There is either no or very little difference in brain structure and function between men and women

There is no evidence that any differences (if they do exist) result in differences in cognition/behavior/illness

There is no evidence of causality; that is socialization may be the cause of any differences

There's also very little evidence of a difference in brain structure or function between transgender and non-transgender people. This 2021 review [1] found that "a clear pattern accompanied by consistent structural changes" in transgender individuals has not been found and that "before hormonal treatment the majority of transgenders’ brain features covered by the studies reviewed could be similar to those of their natal sex". The general issue here is consistency: occasionally a study will find a difference, but this difference fails to replicate or is contradicted by another study.

We also run into the same problem regarding environmental influences. The brain is highly plastic and very likely to change as a result of experience. In fact, this 2021 review [2] suggests that "minority stress exposure" changes various brain networks.

And just to highlight an important (and rarely controlled for) factor: this study [3] found that "after controlling for sexual orientation, the transgender groups showed sex-typical FA-values." Given this result, any study that fails to control for sexual orientation (on the basis of natal sex) is suspect. (That being said, this result is also subject to the same criticisms (i.e., regarding causality) I listed above.)

Beyond brain sex, this 2022 review [4] on "a total of 102 articles across the disciplines of endocrinology, genetics, cognitive function, and neuroanatomy" found results contradict each other and fail to replicate. Their conclusion to this was to "question the utility of etiological studies", but concluding that there is no or little evidence of a biological basis for transgender identity is also a (and perhaps an even more) reasonable conclusion.

In addition, if transgender identity is biologically determined, then we would expect it to be stable across the life course (much like sexual orientation is). However, a recent German study [5-6] found very-low diagnostic stability of gender identity. (They also found a substantial (8-fold) increase in gender-identity-related diagnoses, and that gender-identity diagnoses are replacing "conditions that were previously understood as sexual development struggles".)

Now, it's possible that there is some biological factor that has not yet been identified. (And there likely is a genetic predisposition [4].) However, given the overlap between transgender and homosexual/bisexual people, I personally find it likely that the biological basis of transgender identity would actually a result of the biological basis of same-sex attraction. Environmental influences would then impact whether a same-sex attracted individual starts to identify as transgender and/or has sex dysphoria. (In fact, it's possible the inclusion of heterosexual transgender people in the above studies are diluting any biological evidence for homosexual transgender people.)

And for clarity, "sexual orientation in humans represents a highly complex behavioral trait and is the result of multifaceted interactions between endocrine, genetic, and non-socioenvironmental factors" [7-10].

As a result, I'd conclude that there isn't any evidence of a biological basis of transgender identity and caution that reliable studies on this topic need to have controlled for (natal sex based) sexual orientation.

Everyone thinks Rollo is a repressed virgin and while I also think that is true... I think he would be so creepy!! I cannot forget how Frollo was a total creep towards Esmeralda with the scene where he grabs her from behind and smells her hair so I guess Rollo would be that type of creepy virgin who corners you with that lil smile of his.

Omg he is terribly creepy!!! The type of classic yandere who keeps your stuff like garbage or a used tissue or a pen cap you’ve chewed and has most likely built a shrine to house and worship all of these parts of you so that he can sate his gross urges and desires before he eventually takes the real thing for himself. He’ll buy the same scent you use, whether it’s a perfume or a shampoo, and he’ll use it just so he can smell like you and pretend he’s spent the weekend at your place. His handkerchief hides the most perverted smirk-grin whenever he’s managed to get close enough to smell you or slyly touch your waist under the guise of leading you somewhere, and because he’s the no-nonsense student council president you wouldn’t suspect he’d be a filthy pervert in actuality.

He definitely puts his semen in food he cooks for you and gifts it to you with the entire thought process that if you eat it you’re technically ingesting part of him and isn’t that the most romantic thing? Horribly creepy!! He’s the type to think the most eerie things are romantic. And you think there are only prim, proper thoughts behind such a stern countenance when the truth is that he’s always thinking of the ways in which he can take you. You’re not even living rent-free in his head; he’s trapped you there and it’s your image that gets him through long, mundane days.

He always dreams of you. Before he met you he had trouble sleeping and though it’s still an issue now he can wrap himself in the comforts of a good dream (that often strays into lewd territory) and get slightly better sleep than before.

He’s even worse when he finally has you all to himself, whether he’s kidnapped you or has cornered you in a dark, desolate hallway. Of course he’ll still hide his leering behind his prized handkerchief, but other than that he’s shameless. He’ll run his hands along your shoulders or hips, tracing slow, teasing lines along your jaw or pinching your nipples through the thin fabric of your shirt. He might even use his handkerchief as a blindfold or as a means of restraining your wrists.

Truly, he is a gross man. <3

I've been seeing this a lot lately and I don't know why it's occurring but it needs to stop because one of the worst thing you can do to Tim is call him a replacement for Jason. For some reason people think it's a good idea to write fics where Bruce or Dick look at Tim and call Jason's name by accident as a replacement and honestly that idea is so revolting because they're capitalizing on one of Tim's worst fears and using it to promote someone else.

Being seen as Jason's robin is Tim's fear. Not Bruce's belief.

Dick and Bruce as good people who actually care about Tim have taken care to make sure Tim doesn't turn out to be Jason. They don't see him as a replacement, they see him as an individual with his own merits and success and thoughts. It's disgusting when people write Tim off as a replacement because that's one of Tim's biggest insecurities. His whole campaign during Robin was to prove to Batman that he's not Jason Todd.

He didn't have to prove anything to Dick because Dick never considered him otherwise.

The extent to which Tim's differentiation as Robin was not just 'oh there's a different black haired boy in the robin suit' - no. Tim went out of his way to be the exact opposite of Jason.

Here Tim is running high on emotions and wants to follow the suspect but time traveled Robin Dick stops him and asks if the person who replaced him was this reckless. Evidently in Tim's mind he realizes he's acting like the former robin which is why he immediately switches tracks and calms down.

I hate when people use Tim to prop up Jason's robin as if Tim's is just dispensable. The worst part of this whole ordeal is that they use Tim's worst and most hated fear as a way of doing it. Using one robin's canonical insecurities to support another robin fanonically is one of the shittiest things you can do. The same people ignore the way Dick never, not once saw Tim as any sort of replacement for Jason ever. Bruce's concerns with Tim was that he would end up sharing the same fate not that there was a different boy in the suit.

In fact Bruce very clearly never saw Jason in Tim. The training he put Tim through was directed for the sole purpose that Tim fate wouldn't turn out like Jason's did.

Tim was never ever meant to be a replacement for Jason, he was always meant to be his own Robin. Dick and Bruce went out of their way to ensure that.

Claiming that Tim was just a spot holder for Jason is just vile. That's not what happened in canon, and it's the opposite of everyone's characterization. Tim is incredible and he deserves way more than to be used as a prop for someone else.

AITA for inviting my archenemy and his (ex?) girlfriend on a date the same time same place?

So some background info, I (17M) joined Ls (M 19 at the time) fight against his ultra neglectful father and extended family when I was 12. It was an easy decision considering they also neglect my mom (∞F) and I was tired of the disrespect she received and is still receiving. I just want to make her proud and get her some acknowledgement for all she did for them through centuries, you see. The fact that the summer camp they run made me and a lot of other kids sleep on the floor also helped.

Long story short, we lost horribly. L got killed at age 23, most of my friends died when two people from the summer camp exploded our main base ship and the neglectful parents™ killed my siblings (admittedly because of a wrong decision I made), twisted my mom's arm to stop fighting and kicked me out of the summer camp for life.

Now, this left me immensely angry at my archenemy, let's call him P (17M) as he was one of the people that blew up our ship, the leader of who we were fighting against, and as I suspect, responsible for Ls death so I swore vengeance to avenge the deaths of the people I loved.

Now the problem is, P had broken up with A (17F) as the amount of power he has scared both of them and he didn't want to hurt her. Apparently it happened at an unplanned trip to Ps uncle Hs (∞M) basement and my previous boss Ks (∞M) jail. I have no idea how they even ended up there. Despite my murder attempts P had been incredibly kind to me and denies that he killed L/K. I CANNOT put my undying hatred for this man into words but after a few unintentional date nights I think I have fallen in love with him.

Around this time A found me. One thing that I and everyone around me know is just how protective A and P are of eachother. One time my late friend E(17M) tried to stab P in his weakest point and A took a poisoned knife for him. P broke his nose in retaliation, I think if E hadn't escaped P would've killed him right there. Anyways, A is also very possessive and didn't take being broken up out of nowhere very well due to her abandonment issues. The thing is, she, like me, also looked up to L and we used to be friends when I was at the summer camp. After some mental warfare, a knife fight and some crying about L, one thing led to another and we ended up going on dates.

Neither A and P are aware I also meet up with the other but from what I've heard from them, they sound like they were a very dysfunctional and codependent couple. I feel like they're just using me to fill up their loneliness and as a person to vent up about their increasing resentment towards the neglectful parents™, almost like a pet passed between two exes.

I talked about this with Es ghost, who called me an idiot, and my mom and adopted dad (40+/dead,M) both pointed out I was as lonely as A and P.

So Aita for inviting both of them to the same date because I want to sort things out?

Warnings: insomnia, mentions of death, canon divergent in Bertholdt's, fluff

Reiner Braun

You stared up at the ceiling in the dark, frustration settling into your bones. You had been trying for hours to sleep, trying your best not to toss and turn. Lest you wake up the blonde beside you. You let out a quiet sigh, turning grumpily onto your back, eyes glaring at the wall beside the bed. Your eyes had adjusted to the darkness hours ago, despite how you felt about even still being awake in the first place. You began to let your thoughts wander from the exhaustion that wore you down and to the events of the day. 

Dammit, with how active you had been there was no right to be this unable to sleep. It annoyed you, to say the least. You closed your eyes, silently pleading with your brain to just shut up and drift off. All in vain, of course. Why wouldn't it be? 

You felt Reiner shift beside you, two strong arms wrapping around your torso and pulling you into his chest. He pressed his lips against your neck with a hum. 

"Can't sleep?" He quietly asked.

You only nodded, feeling your cheeks flush as you heard that deep rumbling chuckle in your ear. "Me either." Reiner admitted, "Might as well stay up together. Right?" 

You smiled softly, "Right." You whispered, melting into his warm embrace. Reiner knew what he was doing, evidently, because before long the both of you were drifting to sleep.

Bertholdt Hoover

Unlike you, Bertholdt didn't really struggle to go to sleep but rather struggled with restful sleep. You and him alike had very few nights where the two of you were able to sleep at the same time. Especially after he had returned to Marley with you in tow. Yet every night he tried. His arms wrapped around your, your head on his chest and listening to his heartbeat. Yet sleep wasn't coming, not easily anyway. Even as you listened to the gentle and steady thumping of Bertholdt's heartbeat paired with his quiet, barely audible snores. 

It was cute, really. You pressed a hand against his cheek gently, smiling. "I love you." You softly whispered. 

Bertholdt's heartbeat fastened, cracking a shy smile. You gasped, playfully hitting his chest. "Oh you weren't even asleep! Liar!" You growled in mock offense.

His pale green eyes opened, falling on your figure. "Mm, no. Can't sleep either. I just didn't want to get in the way of you sleeping, if you were."

"At least this way we can stay up together then." You offered, watching Bertholdt's face heat up. No matter how long you had been dating him, he would always flush at the most beautifully domestic words that you uttered. You laid your head back down on his chest  feeling Bertholdt start to run his hands through your hair with a quiet hum. Despite yourself, you ended up drifting off to sleep in his arms, feeling his hands still before you were out like a light. You suspected that Bertholdt had followed suit shortly after.

Levi Ackerman

Levi did not sleep often nor did he sleep well. His dreams normally came paired with nightmares from hell, you were in a similar boat. Although, you supposed that issues sleeping just came with the territory of being scouts. Especially Levi, at the very least you didn't have to send scouts, many of them baby faced and young, to their deaths. You wanted to hold him close most days, because of that. If anyone deserved to sleep well, it was Humanities' Strongest. A title he earned yet a title that came with far too many ghosts.

Which was what you and Levi were doing now. It was after an expedition, his head in your lap as you ran your fingers through his black hair. It was a quiet, gentle moment. Exhaustion wore on the both of you yet not only would sleep not be coming but, additionally, you knew far too well what would happen within your dreams.

You were a veteran yourself, even if you didn't command your own squad like Levi, Miche, and Hanji. You knew his pain. You knew that what others claimed him to be just wasn't true. Sure, he seemed rude and uncaring but you had yet to actually meet a man who cared more than Levi. Levi was quiet, simply enjoying your company and you his. Levi looked up at you, studying your face for a few moments.

"You look exhausted." You remarked.

"Tch, speak for yourself brat." Levi retorted.

You chuckled, nodding. "You got that one right." You watched Levi close his eyes. The silence was comfortable, natural even. It always was around Levi. You didn't need words to express your love for the man before you. Considering his distaste of being emotional, you had a feeling he preferred your silence communicating how you felt for you. Like after every expedition, you two would stay up until you passed out, taking advantage of the planned day off to do with whatever the hell you wanted. Normally, that meant making up for sleep that the night following a return from an expedition stole away. Tonight would be no different.
