Is he in a dream? He does not know, but the shadows that swirl around him are ominous. He looks away, but it is the same on the other side. Shades of gray. There is a path and he walks on it, because what else can he do?

Each step feels heavy. He feels the burden resting on his shoulders. The burden of responsibility, burden of duty. It is suffocating, but he pushes on. He knows nothing else. Stronger! Stronger! Stronger! He keeps on repeating. My path is mine and mine alone.

So he walks by himself, dragging his feet, tripping. Shadows come closer.

He cannot take a break, but… his composure is shattering. Just a moment, a little bit. 

So he stops, nobody will notice. He turns his head to the side and his lilac eyes widen, surprised. 

The shadows part, just in that one spot, they swirl away and there is light. He needs to squint, because he is not used to it. Dark markings strangled him, kept him away from it, he kept himself from it, for fifteen years of his life. So how is this light apparent now?

He looks closer and he sees a flutter of pink. Pink? He smells wine, but why wine? 

His eyes meet with those of amethyst color and he sees flushed cheeks. 

“Hello handsome,” the woman winks. It is just that she is not talking to him. There is a man next to her. Man that could be his twin, because they both have silver hair, fair skin, lilac eyes. However it is not Nozel, because he knows himself and he is not happy. So how does this Nozel look as if he was? He wants to know the secret, wants to know how?

He takes a step closer… he falls on his knees. 

The light is gone, only shadows remained. 

He struggles to stand up. His legs are wobbly, because the burden is back. Somehow heavier than ever. Alone he pushes on. 

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger! The words are there, repeated like a mantra. 

Yet another step, yet another drag of his feet and they hurt. The soles of his sandals are not enough to shield them from the hard rocks, which suddenly appeared on the path.

He looks at them.

However then suddenly a flash of light appears. His eyes dart to it and he is focused. His legs feel lighter, so he approaches it. 

Silver? No she is not a Silva, he does not know her and yet she feels familiar. As if when he looks at the night sky he sees her. The moon looks down at him. And once again there is a man beside her. She is soft with him and he… he is soft with her. Yet another impossible twin. 

So he wants to gaze longer, but the moment he takes a step closer, light fades again. The burden settles, crushes him. Markings strangle his neck. 

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger!

He walks down the path. The sharp stones seem to break the soles of his sandals, but they are still fine… for now. 

When the light appears again, he is not surprised and he runs to it, once again magically rid of the heaviness. He stops close enough so that he can see, but not too close, worried that it will disappear. 

Why is his rival there? Why are they sitting under a tree? What are they talking about?

Fuegoleon seems to be calmly explaining something and the man beside him… listens. They are younger, teenagers. But he has no memory of that. What does it mean? This Nozel does not look burdened. 

He cannot stop himself from taking a step. It fades… once again it fades…

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger! But he wishes for yet another light.

His shoulders hurt. The burden digs into them. He is struggling not to trip. Not to fall down on the sharp rocks. 

He sees it. He darts towards it. Somehow his prayer was answered. 

Gold? Gold and green. The woman is standing in the water and smiling. She submerged her hands in it only to lift them up and splash them! He flinches, but she did not splash at him. The man beside her gets a little wet. He expects the man to snap. He does not. The man looks… happy?

He needs to take a closer look. He forgets and takes a step. The light fades.

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger! Stronger to see another light?

He feels the rocks. The soles of his shoes begin to have holes in them. It hurts! He pushes it down. He does not hurt. He is strong. 

However when the light appears he does not have to pretend anymore… because the pain fades away. 

The woman is not facing him. She has long, light brown hair, so long that it nearly touches the ground. He notices her ears… they are pointy? Then a man comes up from behind her. He puts his hand on her shoulder and she turns around. Her eyes… They are beautiful, peach colored. Her expression is serene as she looks up at the man. That man… he is not nervous… he is happy. 

Maybe if he got a closer look he too..? However when he does the shadows remind him that he cannot. They swallow the peach eyed woman and the man. Once again he is alone. 

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger! Why is it on repeat?

He flinches. Pain. His shoes break down. The soles do not make it and sharp rocks dig into his feet. The burden, the duty lies heavy on his shoulders. He wonders will his spine make it? It has to. He is strong… right?

However he only feels strong, when the light appears again. His wide open eyes look at those with interchanging colors. Colors of pink, blue and purple. Why is that witch there? How is she not asleep? She makes a V-sign with her fingers and giggles, but she does not giggle at him. She giggles at the man whose cheeks are bright pink. He is embarrassed, but not in an uncomfortable way. This is softer. The man smiles tenderly. 

He wonders would this expression look the same on him? So he tries, but the corners of his lips are not used to the movement. The muscles seemed to forget. An ugly grimace forms instead. He covers his mouth. 

This time he is the one to step back. The light fades.

Stronger! Stronger! Stronger!

Something wet.... There is blood on his feet. He feels his back crack, he needs to lean forward, because the burden is too heavy. He wishes for the light no more. It gets worse with each one. Or maybe… just one more time? One more time, before he hurts his feet and they cannot walk anymore. One more time before he gives away to the burden. He walks, but it is hard. It is hard to breathe with the markings suffocating him. 

He trips. His hands bleed. The rocks cut the skin open. White fabric on his knees tears. There are no tears streaming down his cheeks. He is strong. He tries to stand up.

The light shines. He looks up and suddenly he is able to walk, able to run, but he is scared. He worries that if he gets too close it will disappear again. However he cannot see from this far. His feet decide for him. 

He takes a look. The man standing there looks the most like him, from all of those he saw. His expression flat and arms crossed over his chest. 

He furrows his brows. What does it mean?

But before he can wonder, a flash of red appears and a woman comes from behind the man, she excitedly jumps up and wraps her arms around him. The man nearly stumbles… but he is not angry. And the woman laughs. Her dark chocolate hair falls on him and contrasts with the silver. It frames her bright smile and deep brown orbs… almost black. She whispers something to the man and he rolls his eyes affectionately. Affectionately..? How does one do that? 

He wants to ask, so he opens his mouth… but no words come out. He tries again, but he is mute. He puts his hand to his throat. It burns. The markings burn, they suffocate. He tries to scream, but those two surrounded by light do not hear, because there is nothing to be heard. So he reaches out his hand.

The light..? Why is it… wet?

It disappears. Only his outreached palm stays. His eyes widen. It is red, just as that woman’s dress. Blood red and the droplets fall on the sharp rocks. Right… they cut it open.

Stron… He is not strong anymore. He falls on the hard ground. It hurts his body. The burden crushes his lungs. The markings tighten around his neck. The shadows swirl and blood… it spills. He lies there looking up at the dark. Nothing is there.

Nothing… nothing… nothing…

Something wet trails down his cheeks. Tears? His eyes open and he stares at the white ceiling of his room at the Silva estate. What was that dream? He wonders. Heavily he lifts himself up on the bed and looks to the side. 

It is empty…

Icicles and Injuries

Pairing: Wandanat x Reader

Summary: Reader gets trapped and needs to be saved before she freezes to death.

For once the miss had gone well. No injuries or accidents or hidden traps. It had been a breeze. Now all that was left was to sit tight in the nearest safe house in the woods and wait for Tony to send a jet to come and collect you. ‘You’ being Wanda, Natasha, Kate and Yelena.

By late afternoon it was still light outside and snowing lightly. A white dust of flakes covered every available surface in a thin layer of pale snow.

Being in the woods it was a beautiful sight to behold, yet Natasha and Yelena having come from Russia were most winters bordered on nuclear, did not share your enthusiasm.

Wanda and Kate had spent some time in Europe before and were a little more used to it. And sure, you had seen snow many times, but it was always a point of beauty to you. It helped you relax. Soft and cold it continued to drift down from above coating the landscape below.

“Wands? Natty? Do you guys wanna come with me for a walk?” You asked popping your head into the lounge room of the cabin.

“No thanks detka. Not right now. Yelena and Kate were going to watch a movie and I think Wanda was going to start dinner soon.” Natasha said looking genuine.

“Okay.” You said feeling a little saddened by the fact nobody would be coming with.

“Make sure you take a coat. It’s cold.” Nat said over her shoulder as she positioned herself between her sister and her sister's girlfriend with a shit-eating grin. Always the older sister, you thought rolling your eyes.

You said a quick goodbye to Wanda who echoed Nat’s statement about a coat before putting one on and a pair of gloves, boots and a beanie before entering the snow scene outside the cabin.

You headed for the trail behind the house. It was marked with signs on the trees as it snowed enough around here for trails to be easily lost without proper signage.

You sighed, feeling at peace and relaxed as the snow crunched softly underfoot. Setting off down the trail it was lined with fresh snow and small animal tracks, probably squirrels or rabbits.

As you continued down the track the cabin grew smaller behind you. It was a loop and came out down by the other side of the house.

Seeing the first sign on the tree you smiled at the small red arrow which was on a wood-stained oak board nailed into the tree.

You continued down the track listening to the serene quietness and peaceful sound of snow and birdsong.

Pulling your coat around you some more it was getting colder as the evening wore on and your nose was surely frozen as small snowflakes collected on your eyelashes.

As you continued down the short trail a flicker of movement out of the corner of your eye caught your attention. A small squirrel had hopped up onto what looked like the snow-covered husk of an old tree. The little creature chittered at you and you smiled softly at the peacefulness of the moment.

But before you could even think the squirrel ran up the tree. The tree looked like it had survived many winters and was well past due to be fell in the summer. The squirrel continued up the branches which were creaking eerily already laden with snow on the branches. Then there was a sharp cracking crunch, and the tree began to fall.

At the last minute the squirrel jumped onto a nearby branch out of harms way. Yet you stood frozen. You just had time to duck and cover as the tree crashed down onto the path. It fell in a way that had managed to avoid hitting you but had pinned your coat under its heavy trunk. Your left boot was also pinned, and you bit a cold breath of air back in shock.

The snow continued falling, however it seemed almost menacing now. If you stayed out much longer into the evening the temperatures would continue to fall, and that beautiful snow might be the thing that kills you.

You cursed yourself from forgetting your phone, not that it would have a signal, but it would be better than nothing. They may have been able to track you at least.

The sun began to dip under the tree line and the temperature began to drop faster without the sun to provide warmth.

The snow was collecting on top of the tree making the chance of escape seem slimmer and slimmer.

The snow was beginning to build up either side of you now. Blocking you inside the wooden ribs of the tree. The branches caving around you with the snow beginning to form a roof and sides.

It was cold and it no longer felt like just your nose that was frozen. Your cheeks stung with the cold, and you wiggled your fingers and toes to try and warm them up as well. Frostbite was a very real thing and one you did not want to ever have experience in.

As the sun began to cruise lower and lower in the sky it continued to get colder. The light was starting to go now as well, a dusky overcast type of light was all that was left. If this continued on for much longer you worried, they may never find you until the snow thawed, by then it would be too late.

Back in the cabin the movie was almost over. Yelena and Kate had ended up beside each other again with popcorn in their hair after flicking it at each other for the whole duration of the movie. Nat had already seen the movie and headed to the kitchen to fetch four mugs of hot chocolate to share.

As she stepped into the kitchen which smelled like heaven and smiled at Wanda.

“Wheres Y/n? Surely, she’ll want hot chocolate as well.” Natasha smiled.

“I thought she was with you?” Wanda said looking up from where she had been seasoning chicken.

“No?” Nat said frowning. “She should be back from her walk by now.”

“Oh god.” Wanda paled slightly. “She’s not still out there, is she?”

“If she is we better find her fast before it gets too dark. Cold weather like this can kill.” Natasha said. “You send Yelena and Kate to check the bedrooms before joining us in the woods. I’m going to see if i can find her. Join me when you’re done.” Nat said already slipping on a coat with a sense of urgency to her movements.

Wanda nodded her assent and went to tell Yelena and Kate.

After a little bit all three girls were out searching the woods. Wanda was focusing on finding you with her mind, but you were either asleep or close too it which worried her greatly.

Finally, she sensed you under an old looking tree covered in snow. She called the others over and focused, using her magic to move the tree off you.

When your red jacket came into sight Natasha was the first to get to you. Scooping your cold and limp form into her arms. You were breathing but also freezing cold.

“We need to warm her up. NOW!” Nat said as she began sprinting to the cabin with you in her arms.

Your cheeks had long since turned from a rosy red colour to a dusky blue as the temperature had fallen further.

Once Natasha burst through the front door she headed for the bedroom you, her and Wanda had been sharing the past few nights.

Wanda, Kate and Yelena followed close behind, nobody commenting on the water that was being tracked through the cabin. Their focus elsewhere.

Natasha gently set you down on the bed, Wanda beside her and Kate and Yelena hovering in the doorway.

“Alright.” Nat said. “Wanda i need you to help me get her out of these wet clothes they’re doing more harm than good.” She said already starting to peel off your soaked coat. “Yelena, Kate.” She began and the two stood a little straighter. “Go and run a warm bath, not too warm but just enough to not be cold.” Nat said and the two turned tail and headed for the bathroom.

Wanda was now working on taking off your snow-pants while nat continued stripping off your top half. After a minute you were left laying in just your sports bra and boxers, long past shivering.

“Now what?” Wanda asked seeming panicked.

“Now we warm her up. It works best with skin-to-skin contact. So, we need to cuddle her. Bring that blanket and put it on top. Once Yelena is done with the bath, we will kick them out.” Nat said. Pulling off her shirt and taking off her track pants. She was now stood in bike pants and a sports bra much like what she wore to training in the gym.

Wanda was one step behind as she took off her shirt in a matching outfit to Natasha’s.

You, Wanda and Natasha had been together almost three years now, so it was nothing new. But still, nat had sent Yelena and Kate away just because.

Nat climbed onto the bed beside you and began pulling a sheet over you. Wanda slipped into the bed on your other side and cuddled up close. Sucking in a sharp breath when your frigid skin came into contact with her. You made a small noise of pain and curled into her front. Your face tucked into her chest. Natasha curled up behind you, tucking you between the two of them. Wanda had one arm around your waist and the other holding the back of your head to her chest. Natasha had her arms over you and on Wanda’s bare hip and back.

After a few minutes of quiet cuddling, and the sound of your short huffy breathes, you began to stir slightly. Your eye’s blinked open before you whined and screwed them shut again.

Wanda carded a hand through your hair and shone softly to you.

“There we go. Come on. Come back to us baby-girl. You’re doing so well for us my love.” She coaxed, her hands tangling in your wet locks.

After a second the sound of the tap shutting off was heard and Yelena’s footsteps came down the hall. She peaked in and smiled at Natasha looking so domestic but bit back a comment.

“Your bath is ready sestra.” Yelena said with her heavy accent hiding her amusement.

“Alright.” Nat said as she shifted Wanda’s arms around you tightened.

“Can i carry her this time?” Wanda asked sounding almost scared to let you go. As if you may disappear.

“Sure baby. But you’ll need to give her to me before you get into the bath with her.” Nat said and she glanced back at the door where Yelena had disappeared from before getting out from under the sheets.

The process of bathing you was simple enough. The flush had come back to your cheeks as Wanda held you in her lap in the bath while Natasha ran and warm cloth over every inch of your skin slowly warming you up. After they had been satisfied you were warm enough, they towelled you off as you start to come around again. They dressed you in Nat’s warm hoodie and Wanda’s red track pants.

Wanda had you in her arms when the three of you re-entered the kitchen slash lounge room.

Yelena grinned. Having set up a nest of sorts on the floor with a ton of blankets and pillows. Kate had five cups of hot chocolate on the bench and a movie queued up.

You buried your face into Wanda’s chest as the five of you got settled into the nest. Blankets were thrown over the five of you and you settled in for the movie.

Wanda’s dinner was still cooking and right now nobody wanted to leave you by yourself let alone out of their sight.

So, you curled up in your girlfriend’s laps and listened to their hearts beat with the soundtrack of parks and recreation playing in the background.

Angstpril Day 1

Homesick

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Children of the Desert

He hears Padme moving, turning to leave. “Don’t go,” Anakin requests, and he feels her pause.

“I don’t want to disturb you,” she admits.

“Your presence is soothing,” he confesses, which – it is. She’s not a Jedi. She won’t judge him. She might not understand, but Padme is the only person he knows who doesn’t make him feel like he’s drowning under expectations.

“I heard you having another nightmare last night,” Padme says. She’s watching him worriedly. Anakin’s missed that – the simple knowledge of what it means to have friends, to have someone. Someone who looks out for him, and he might be here to protect her, but she still cares for him. She’s still his friend.

“Jedi don’t have nightmares,” Anakin mutters. “It was a vision. I saw my mother. She is suffering, Padme.” He turns around to face her. “I saw her as clearly as I see you now. I – I know I’m disobeying my mandate to protect you, but I have to go. I have to help her.”

He misses his mother. Anakin misses her with everything he has, and he always thought someday, he’d be able to go back and see her again. But he never expected it to be because he was having visions of her dying.

“I’ll go with you,” Padme offers.

The offer catches him by surprise, even if probably shouldn’t have. Padme’s always been nice to him. But still, she’s putting herself in danger for him.“I’m sorry,” Anakin tells her, sincerely, “I don’t have a choice.” He can’t leave his mother to die. It’s been so many years since he last saw her, he’s afraid he’s starting to forget what she was like. He has to go back to Tatooine and find her, before it’s too late.

"Nozel onii-sama, why did Momma die?"

Nebra hadn't realised the heavy weight those words were laced with, how they'd made her brother feel, or the fact that she shouldn't be worrying about it being only nine.

Nor the reality that it hadn't been the baby's fault.

Nozel's face darkened, and took a deep breath. Nebra knew Nozel was not one for physical affections, aside from the morning hugs and good night forehead kisses she and Solid always received. So she was surprised when he reached down and picked her up, nestling her safely with one arm while he checked his reflection in the massive bathroom's mirror as she let out a surprised squeak. He look tired, Nebra realised.

Nozel shakily breathed in, and squeezed her a bit tighter, but lovingly nontheless. He looked deep into her eyes and spoke calmly.

"Nebra, do you remember when Solid was born?"

She did, vaguely. She'd been only five, barely six, when her little brother was born.

"Remember it was very hard for Momma? Well, Noelle's birth was also very difficult for Momma. Momma left because she was very tired, and she couldn't handle it anymore." He spoke gently, in an oh so unusual tone for her brother.

Nebra thought about it as her brother held her middle back with his other hand, making sure she wouldn't fall as he walked to his bedroom. It wasn't always like this. Nozel was not built for kindness, or gentleness, or love.

Sometimes, though. Sometimes when Nebra had a nightmare, the very scary ones, the ones that kept her up gripping her sheets on the look for monsters, she'd be brave and get out of bed; then walk towards Nozel's room. He'd let her spend the night with him and Solid. Since the little one was only four, he still shared a room with the eldest. Only sometimes.

Nebra, realised then, tonight was sometimes.

"Nebra, have you heard the tale of the strong little spider who was also weak?" Nozel asked, while closing his bedroom door, and leaving her on the floor.

"No, never"

They passed Solid's bed, and walked towards Nozel's bed, next to the huge windows.

"Well," he started as they sat down on his bed "There was this little spider. She lived in a cave, with many other bugs. And she wasn't scared, because she was the biggest and strongest of them all. Every little bug was scared of her."

Nebra shuffled closer, and listened intently.

"But then, the little spider went out of the cave, and she found other spiders there. And the little spider wanted to go back to her cave. You know why?"

"Why?"

"Because she had challenged the spiders from outside."

"But aren't the spiders scared of her?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because these spiders were very, very, very big."

Nebra looked down in thought. She stared at her brother with wide eyes, and spread out her arms.

"This big?"

Nozel smiled. That was rare. But it was a sad, tired smile. One that told her her brother wasn't telling her all the truth. A smile that said he was carrying a heavy burden.

A smile she hated seeing on her brother's face.

"Way bigger." He answered. He sighed, and pulled the sheets down so that they would be able to snuggle up in them. "Alright, off to sleep, little spider" He finished.

Before falling asleep, Nebra heard little muffled cries coming from Nozel, and she wished she could do anything to help him. She knew her brother missed Momma, and she knew there was nothing she could actually do about it. She was only nine, after all.

So, as her thoughts drifted off to the dream world Acier had so often told her about, she thought;

"When I grow up, I'm gonna give Momma back to Onii-sama."

The Ghost Of You

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from The Sith Strike Back

“Are you okay?” Ahsoka queries, crouching in front of him.

Vader blinks, the question catching him by surprise.

“You keep acting… I don’t know. Weird. And it’s weird enough I was able to beat you.”

“It has been a long time since I last saw you,” he replies quietly.

“What happened to me? After – after this?”

“I – I do not know. I found your lightsaber not long after everything fell and I knew you survived but I do not know where you went.”

“We never saw each other again?” Ahsoka asks, biting her lip. He can see the lingering anxiety there and he can sense her longing. She misses him, what he was, but that’s not who he is anymore. He can’t be her Anakin.

“Only once. It did not end well.”

“What do you mean?”

“We fought.” For a moment, he’s half expecting to see the older her instead of the young one. He wants to hear what she has to say about it, to talk to her again, but this isn’t his her. Even if this is really the ‘her’ he remembers. It feels like he’s looking at a ghost.

Ahsoka’s eyes widen, something like horror flickering through her gaze. “I – I can’t imagine that. I mean if you were a Sith – I don’t know. I can’t believe this is the future.”

He’d say that too if he hadn’t been living in it for two decades. “You had reason to be angry,” he tells her, numbly. He doesn’t know what her relationship with that other boy there was, but…

Ahsoka leans forwards unexpectedly, winding her arms around him. Vader freezes only for a moment but pulls her close. She slides half into his lap and he squeezes her a little tighter. Never wants to let go. He can’t even believe what she's doing. He doesn’t even understand why. She knows that he is. But to be fair, she doesn’t know what he’s done yet.

“I missed you,” she murmurs, into his shoulder.

“I missed you too… Snips.” He ignores the way his voice is wavering as he says it.
