A weird realization i made watching TADC ep 2 (cried my fucking eyes out) is that like

Hazbin and Digital Circus are both extremely Tumblr pieces of indie animation, but in such completely different ways

Hazbin kind of tries to appeal to every "Tumblr demographic" lets just say

The musical nerds, the queers, the people who need a Sexyman for every media they watch, people who like engaging in serious/controversial topics, etc etc

Which in itself isnt bad but as with a lot of things in Hazbin, it really wasnt carried out well

But with Digital Circus, the intended audience feels a lot more specialized yk?

Sure, it has bright colors with toy-inspired characters and silly hijinks, but the intended audience isnt for children or (staying on the whole Tumblr audience thing) isnt for the lucky younger teens who dont know what Amino is

But it doesnt try to welcome every corner of this platform, which is why there are negative reviews: because Digital Circus just isnt made for the majority of people

It's made for the "underdogs" so to speak, the kind of minorities that feel like their voices aren't heard

Sure the standard "Oh this is just a Tumblr cartoon" genre implies queerness, for one thing, which is in the TADC with Zooble (my beloved) and i love their constantly alternating pronouns

But more importantly, what kind of got to me the most, but it's made for the lonely

It's made for those who feel alienated because of themselves and/or their circumstances

Which i think is what is so great about the main character being an autistic woman, not just for the rep, but because Pomni's experience is so intrinsically neurodivergent. All despite the fact that paradoxically (to someone who isnt ND), she is the voice of reasonable confusion. She doesn't understand why everyone else is going along with Caine's shit when they all know they are just people trapped in a digital hellscape who don't remember their past lives.

Its a deeply existential thought, and I'm so glad that in the most recent episode, she has an outlet for all of this existential dread and panic. I cannot understate how moving it is to see Pomni not only pushing past her own problems, but actively utilizing them to help someone else struggling with the same sort of (essentially) nihilism

Not to mention the end of the episode (still trying to keep it vague because the ep just came out), where Pomni realizes that hey, she might not be alone

It just speaks to me so much, especially because i have my own sense of deep-rooted existential dread that has gotten so much worse over the past few months

And also because it reminds me of 2-S from Ultrakill, special interest go brr

Unlike a few scarce weeks ago--when Cain would have reacted to such a thing with terse, spat-out words along the lines of that's not my goddamn name--the softshell simply gritted his teeth, content to just ignore Leo's ribbing for the time-being. He had a lab space to design, and a garden to plan, and other plans to attend to that didn't involve stooping to whatever new level of depravity his twin had in mind in his current mischievous mood.

But Leo was goddamn relentless when he wanted attention, and he just kept going at it.

"Donnie. Donnie. Don. Don. Don-tron. Beloved twin. Hermano. My homeslice breadslice dog. Inhaler-looking ass. Five-head haver---"

"God, WHAT." Never mind that he'd given Leo exactly what he was looking for--a reaction of some kind--Cain was annoyed, now. "What could possibly be important enough that you're pulling me away from essential work."

Whether it was the ridiculousness of the joke, his utter bewilderment over the situation, or just because his brain desperately needed something to focus on other than his failures, he felt a sputtering laugh escape his throat, mouth upturning into a grin as he sat there. "That.....is the stupidest joke I've ever heard-"

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-" Unlike the mad laughter of the empyrean fits, this was genuine laughter, escaping from him in a spasm of pure glee. It wasn't the dry, humorless chuckle that he'd developed within the halls of the Syndicate--no, it was Donnie's laugh, high and joyful, petering off into a series of hee hees under his breath.

You’d be surprised to hear it - but Illumi shares your hypersensitivity

He’s been trained to use it to help him in assassin work, and to not get overwhelmed, but internally, he knows how it feels to be surrounded by sensation and unable to escape

He might not pick up on discomfort very quickly, but once it gets through to him, he feels a surprising amount of empathy for your condition

In terms of how he’ll help, he… won’t

He’ll really try! Asking you what you need and getting it in a heartbeat, anything for his beloved, but he’ll probably just end up overwhelming you with questions anyway

Once you finally manage to explain that all you need is some quiet time alone, he’ll struggle to do so, feeling like he needs to be useful while you’re in such a vulnerable state

But not worry - he’ll come around, and start acting like a bodyguard not letting anyone near you while you seem overwhelmed

Meeting his family will be inevitable once you’ve started officially dating, and he probably won’t even consider that you might be nervous

He has the greatest family in the world - why would you be scared?

He can be a bit thick at times

Once it finally occurs to him that they’re, y’know, assassins, he’ll try to quell your worries

You don’t have to worry about them being loud - stoicism is quite prized in the family

You definitely don’t need to worry about them hurting you - as his (future) spouse you’re part of the family, and none of them would ever go out of their way to hurt you

He’ll take care of opening the gate, making sure your food isn’t poisoned, so on, so forth

While you’re there, Kikyo will flip between being your best friend and your worst enemy

She is happy with whatever makes her son happy, but she’s a bit annoyed that you’re not assassin material

Despite this, she is a lover of etiquette, and upsetting a guest is absolutely dreadful etiquette. She’ll berate any butler who accidentally upsets you, though her shrieking may be more upsetting than the initial issue

Zeno and Silva will be the most chill, obviously being a bit on the introverted side themselves

Zeno will probably have a few teasing words for you and his grandson, but that’s just the kind of grandfather he is

Silva won’t bother you much, if you meet him at all, since he’ll likely just stay in his room the whole time

The younger siblings are either going to make nuisances of themselves or really enjoy your company

If, by some miracle you get the chance to meet with Alluka, they’ll probably be grateful for someone who isn’t too loud, and they’ll try not to be overwhelming in return

Not saying they’ll manage it but they’ll try

Kalluto will like be one of the first ones introduced to you when you enter the grounds, and he’ll probably accompany you the entire time you’re there

It’s nice to have someone who silently shares your space when Illumi has to step away

Killua will be the worst in making a nuisance of himself

He won’t go out of his way to upset you or anything, he couldn’t care less

But he’ll try to annoy his brother, mostly on Cain instinct or whatever, so you’ll probably only have passing contact with him, if Illumi has anything to say about it

Milluki is another you might just not run into, but that’s probably for the best

His volume control is awful, either mumbling so quietly that he can’t be heard or screaming loud enough to make anyone flinch

You’ll likely only run into him at the family dinner table, where he’s too busy tapping at his phone as he eats to acknowledge or tease you

All in all, you’ve managed to land the least chaotic Zoldyck, and that’s saying something, but as long as they live, anyone who harms a hair on your head, won’t live.
