Any source for the bit from Soul Hackers' compendium about Melchizedek being the "Savior of the Angels" and more powerful than Jesus? That kinda smells like more New Age WTF to me, but I'm not entirely sure. There are some apocrypha depicting Melch doing things typically ascribed to Jesus in more mainstream texts, like judging the dead at the end of the world, but that's not quite the same thing...
They're powerscaling Jesus Christ out here. It's my understanding that the demons expelled into the herd of swine at Jerash each posessed as much "ki" as three Saibamen. Melchizedek doesn't want that smoke...
"An angel of Gnosticism, governing peace and righteousness. While Jesus was the savior of the people, Melchizedek was the savior of the angels, and sometimes is said to be greater than Christ Himself. To be specific, he is actually a Power, and used to be human, the king of Salem."
Anyway, the real association between Christ and Melchizedek probably originates in the Epistle to the Hebrews, but the spiel in the compendium is certainly copied from Walker:

"A Treasury of Knitting Patterns" review
A good stitch dictionary can get you far in projects and while I love the ease and accessibility of the internet, a book can ease the search a bit. They are a great resource for technical knowledge as well as keeping a variety of stitches in one place.
There are a lot of options for stitch dictionaries for both knitting and crochet but here is just one book so far. Many of these books might be available at your local library. Happy knitting!
“A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” By Barbara Walker
Tumblr media
Overall score: 4 out of 5
First let’s start with a big name in knitting, Barbara Walker. She has written about 13 books about knitting, four of which fall into the “Treasury of Knitting Patterns'' line. My library had the first one, which was first published in 1968. On Schoolhouse Press, who publishes it, the book costs $30 USD. Secondhand copies are available for less.
The stitches are broken down into multiple categories (like all good dictionaries should be). The sections include: knit-purl stitches, ribbing, color changing, slip stitches, twisted stitches, fancy stitches, yarn over, eyelet, lace, cables and cable stitch. There are 500 different stitch patterns in it.
This book comes with a small glossary of terms but it is aimed at people who already know how to knit. It is best suited for beginners who have a firm grasp on knitting, purling, increasing/ decreasing and yarn overs. It is a good way to test skills and can be helpful in trying new things but can not teach you to knit.
The photos are all black and white and the swatches were worked in white yarn, the colorwork swatches do include a good contrast between light and dark. There are no charts for any of the stitches.
I personally don’t mind no charts for most of them except the colorwork. If you want charts you will have to rechart them yourself. The patterns are easy to follow but the colorwork could be confusing if you’re more familiar with charts. I would suggest charting them before starting.
The patterns are easy to read and can range from half a page to a thirds. The chapters appear to be arranged so the easiest patterns are in the beginning of the chapter while more advanced patterns towards the end. Even the "advanced" patterns are easy to follow.
Overall, I like the selection of stitches and the breath it covers. If you want a good introduction to a variety of stitches and gives you a good jumping off point for new stitches. A warning I will offer with this book, in the lace section there is a type of lace you can knit call fggtting. While in knitting it’s not referencing a slur, it is included so if that could be triggering please be warned.
I have heard from other knitters on youtube that the second treasury is a great book – so it might be worth looking into finding that one.

I know I hung on the gust-beat gallows/ nine full nights,/ gashed with a stake and given to fire-see,/ myself to myself,/ on that ash-tree of which none know/ from where the roots rise. ~ Odin’s Shaman Song.
Here is what Barbara Walker has to say about the Hanged Man:
A man dressed like the Fool hangs from a beam between two trees by one leg, the other leg bent in the Hermetic figure-4 position. His hands are bound behind his back, but his facial expression is peaceful. Bunches of grapes hang with him, suggesting sacraments of Dionysus. Two towers appear in a landscape like that of the Moon card. Hanging by one leg was the medieval custom of “baffling,” a nonlethal punishment bringing disgrace, like a sojourn in the stocks. Like the ritual humiliation in many types of initiation, this may have been a symbolic death-andrebirth, designed to make the novice hear his own heartbeat, which Far Eastern mystics called “the sound of power.” The basis of all rhythm, it is heard even by fetal ears in the womb. The heart’s inner “dance” was the dancing god in Chidambaram, the Cave of the Heart. In ancient Egypt, a figure with one leg bent like the Hanged Man’s was the hieroglyphic sign of dancing and of the Mother-given heart soul (ab). The Hanged Man’s gallows dance is therefore a mock martyrdom, interpreted as a sacrifice for a good purpose, patient as a sacrifice for a good purpose, patient endurance, silent suffering, and life at low ebb.
What I find interesting about this card is the idea that through suffering one can find Aufklärung (your own Age of Enlightenment.) Because basically everything in Christianity has been plagiarized from much better source material, the Codex Regius describes how Odin hung himself on the Yggdrasil (World Tree) in his quest for enlightenment, giving up an eye in order to be able to read the Runes. One of the titles given to Odin is, “Yggr the Terrible,” from which we get the word Ogre.
They did not comfort me with bread nor with a drinking horn: I looked down, I took up the runes, shrieking their names I fell back from there.
I got nine mighty songs from the famous son of Bolthorn, Bestla's father, and I got a drink of precious mead sprinkled as from the heart.
Then I began to thrive and bear wisdom I grew and prospered; Each word drew another word from me, each deed drew another deed from me.
For me what is important about this card is the concept of surrendering every notion of how you think the universe work in order to learn something new. Sacrificial pain cuts through the mundane dogma of all you’ve been taught in school or books (ie., other people’s wisdom that you try to claim as your own) to reveal whatever light your higher self is trying to show you.

I am initiating in mythology and teology studies, and i came across your blog, being an old Megaten fan myself. Something i ve seen around the Megaten community is the Barbara G Walker criticism, and i am very curious on why is she so criticised. Im thinking about buying her encyclopedia and reading it myself, but im lacking the time right now and can't find good topics around the internet.
She literally makes stuff up. This is one of my favorite entries from her work:

Good luck finding any serious scholar claiming this today, or even hinting at it in the last 30 years. The Joseph Campbell citation from Oriental Mythology is also a non-starter.

While Tim isn’t exactly the most interesting Robin I think it’s notable that out of all the protégés he comfortably has the best Rogue’s Gallery and it Carrie’s him a long way. Barb has Killer Moth, and formerly the Cavalier I guess, and Damien has his family but all of them are mostly Bruce’s villains. And everyone has rivals in Bruce’s rogue’s gallery but those connections never stick. Tim’s got Anarky, King Snake, and the General as pretty much exclusively his nemeses, and he’s got a great dynamic with all of them, like Lonnie, Dorrance, and Ulysses are all full fledged rogues with history, and most of that history is up against Tim. Steph is the only competition, but Cluemaster is ontologically pathetic by design and it’s tougher to have him be a recurring threat yknow. I think it’s worth putting energy into, because otherwise you end up with Dick’s most recurring foes being Blockbuster and Double Dare, I like Blockbuster and Double Dare more than most, but if they’re your arch-villains then something is wrong.

It has the feeling that you are going to be forced into manoeuvring around whatever difficulties a person or situation presents to you at your door step today. The source of the discussion centres on rebuilding what you value most not only for yourself but the people within your environment. Don’t overlook help when offered. It’s very likely that this person has been down this path before and come through with flying colours.
