“you up?” the sound of rain accompanies you as you’re sat at your desk, waiting for a response beneath your written question. it’s one of those nights again. another night of endless tossing and turning because of thoughts—stupid thoughts. naturally, parts of your body find a rhythm as a way to shake out those bad thoughts, an impromptu exorcism you liked to joke. 

your fingers nervously drum against cherry wood, your leg bouncing in pursuit, and your heart races all at the same time, as you wait for a response. it’s four am, you weren’t exactly hopeful for one, but somehow, bart has yet to fail you.

“brley.” you’re calmed by the appearance of the black ink on your skin, smiling now. barely. he’s missing an ‘a’ but you figured you’d give him a pass considering how late it is.

“sorry. just wanted to see if you were still awake.” you write smaller than usual on your skin, accommodating for the longer sentence. 

“drinking a coke now! you ok?” his handwriting is sloppy as usual, but you find it endearing. it’s almost like he’s rushing to talk to you and you couldn’t complain about that—you do the same.

“4 am thoughts again?”  bart continues on before you could write a response. he’s always been a quick replier, impossibly fast at times.

it hasn’t been long since… all of this started happening. you never believed in having a soulmate, even attempted to refute the idea. but the existence of bart allen has convinced you into believing, maybe… just maybe, that he’s the one. bart always knew what was on your mind simply by how long it would take you to respond at times. that’s how impressive he is. he always knew what to say. not because he’s wise or smart (though, he is), but because he knew how to make you laugh. and you can feel yourself healing, though baby-steps, the more you spent time with him.

“you know me.”

“and i always want to know more! favorite cheesecake flavor? mine’s a basque.” you chuckle as more words appear on your skin, quickly extending over the length of your forearm as bart never cared to write small. “i know, it’s a little too fancy for me, but that caramelization is YUM!”

“and i thought you knew me, bart…” you write just as the previous responses vanish into your skin. “you know i don’t like sweets.”

“i know and it’s why i’ve docked you down to being 95% compatiable with me.” a smug smiley face with its tongue sticking out ends his sentence and you draw whatever you can imagine at the moment over it like you often do, both to your amusement.

for a moment, you forgot why you even woke him in the first place. bart makes time pass by, the problem and care of the world—of life—fleet away when you’re with him. but when you’re not, everything is numb. white noise follows you everywhere. the only reason why you come out of bed is to go to work, but you work idly, breathing as best as you can. living as best as you can.

you didn’t realize you’ve been staring off into space until you felt soft pressure applied to your forearm again, breaking your focus. “you never answered if you were okay or not.” 

it takes a moment, a long moment until you gather the courage to respond.

“honestly? no…” you sigh to yourself, admitting defeat. 

sometimes, there were days where you felt okay. but they were rare. you hated feeling like this. merely stating how you felt made you uncomfortable, but you’ve been lying to him, to yourself for so long. you aren’t okay. because the longer you lied to yourself, the more you hurt everybody, what’s left of everybody, around you.

you’ve stopped doing your favorite things again, opting to sleep the entire day away if you could. but you knew it was unhealthy. so you try. you try to make yourself okay, whatever that meant. going to the beach, taking a walk in the park, it was something. but you always found yourself wanting, dreaming to be one of those attributes that had people returning to those locations. the gentle sunset that warmed cold shores, the breeze that kept park benches cool, you wished you had that effect on someone—to have them return.

but to have them return is to get better, work towards being better. you’ve hurt a lot of people. those that have tried to help you, stood by you, but you’ve pushed them all away by now, and you’re alone. painfully alone.

“you remember what i told you from before, right?”

“yeah.”

you think to yourself, will bart return if something happened? if you were an ass to him? said or acted hurtful towards him? you knew you would never intentionally, but it’s a thought—a scary one. 

“it’s okay to not be okay.” you both write simultaneously, your print in small and bart’s in large.

you’re not doing well. you admit to yourself again, and that’s okay. you remind yourself, alongside with bart’s writing. it’s a part of life and most of all, a step in the right direction. to healing, to being better, to being okay.

“i’m always be here for you.”  “you always know what’s on my mind, bart.”

You didn’t know what is was about him, but ever since you joined young justice, you couldn’t stand him.

he worked off of impulses. I mean you should have guessed that, it is his name.

He didn’t stick to the plan, and effectively ruined it.

even after a few days it bothered you, it was still ingrained into memory. It haunted you. It pissed you off.

HE pissed you off.

Red tornado had scheduled sparing training for the team today. You had hoped you would get paired with Anita or Kon.

But as Red called out your names, your heart sank. You looked over at Bart. He smirked and you wanted to die.

You went into the practice room and got into fighting positions. You prepared yourself for him to hit you at light speed and try to predict where he would appear next before he could land another punch.

As he ran up to you, you tried to shield yourself, but he punches landed on your middle sections. Knocking the wind out of you for a second.

you quickly recovered, successfully locating his next move and blocking his punch and striking him in the stomach and jaw. He landed on the floor.

You stood in victory. Glad to have won round one.

Bart snared as he got up. He wasn’t gonna lose again. He wasn’t gonna be what Wally said he was. And he knew just how to push your buttons.

“You know, you should have tried that move on Slade, maybe he wouldn’t have put you out of the running and you could have stopped him before I had to fix your mess.” He said with a shit eating grin.

“My mess? You mean your mess.” You shot back. “You slipped and let him get away.”

“You could have gotten him on the mission before that. But is it only when I mess up that it’s wrong?” Impulse yelled back.

“he knocked me out last time!” You yelled

“Then you weren’t quick enough!” Bart yelled as he got into his fighting position again.

“You ditched the plan, you slipped, and the criminal got away!” You yelled as you charged him.

he dodged your attack, speeding up and hitting you in the legs, knocking you off balance.

”I saw an opportunity and I took it! Is that so hard to understand?” Bart screamed as he knocked you over again.

You tried to charge him again, but quickly zoomed away to the other side of the room. You ran again but he was father again. You grumbled in frustration.

“What am I too fast for you?” He asked with a smirk.

“Too fast to play fair.” You snap as you get into a ready position for round three

“Oh you want fair? Fine have it your way. I’ll slow down for you.” He laughed.

“No don’t slow down, I’ll finish you off.” You said as you grounded you feet.

“that a threat or a promise?” He asked with a smirk.

“both asshole.” You snap. He runs forward and you two collide.

he pushes against your frame trying to knock you over with his sheer strength.

“Don’t worry, I’ll finish this quickly.” He smiles as he pushes against you harder.

“bet that’s not the only thing you finish quickly.” You shot back, smiling when his grin dropped.

he ran back and lean forward at super speed trying to hit you with everything he’s got.

You block his punches and manage to get a few in before you advance forward and knock him over, not before he grabs you by the waist and drags you down with him.

you land on top of him, both breathing to heavy to say a thing. You pull back and look into his eyes to find his golden eyes already staring back.

You becoming hyper aware of how close your chest is to his. How your breathing becomes synched and how your body fit perfectly on top of his.

“Well,” Bart starts staring into your eyes with his clouded with someone you hadn’t seen before. “You got me on my back, now what?” He asked. His face was soft, almost innocent like. Almost.

you lean into closer to his face as his breathing hitched. His puffy hair falling around his head like a halo. His eyes falling soft as he gazed up into yours, as if he was mesmerized.

you lean close to his ear as he eyes fell closed “I’ll finish this quickly.” You whispered back.

He had no time to register what you said, not after you landed a punch square in his face,knocking him out cold.

a/n: sorry it's so short (and sucky). ;; i've honestly been in a slump and i constantly feel like my writing isn't that good, LOL. it's been hitting hard the past few weeks, but maybe i just need to get some inspiration.

—pathetic, if you were to insult yourself. you already have many times, so once more wouldn’t hurt.

—jealousy was not a vocabulary in your book. in your world, you trusted your partners, as they had trusted you. thankfully, every one of your relationships had ended on mutual terms.

—so, the fact that you were possessive over bart sent tremors to the spine of your book.

Mount Justice was almost empty. The team was given a day off to do what ever they wanted. Some of the team went out, some stayed in.

Nightwing and Robin had left to Gotham. Y/N and Bart had stayed in to hang out. Of course there where others still there, but they where in the rooms. The two boys where playing video games. “This is boring!” The H/C male said. His boyfriend sat next to him laughed at him, “Your only saying that cause your loosing!” Y/N rolled his eyes at the hyperactive speedster.

Turning off his controller he ask Bart, “Wanna play the floor is lava instead?” With that the consol was off and Bart had sat on a table. “THE FLOOR IS LAVA!” The lively male yelled. Y/N laughed at him. He pulled his legs onto the sofa. “Bet you can’t make it over here to me!” Bart said smiling widely.

Y/N used his powers to teleport over to the pool table. “No powers! That’s cheating!” Bart told him. “Well how did you get to that table so fast?” The boy asked him. “I did it before the floor became lava so it doesn’t count.” Bart stated. “Now I know your just making up rules!” Y/N bickered back. He looked at the gap between the pool table and the table Bart was sat on. ‘It shouldn’t be too hard to jump over’ he thought to himself.

He was right. He made it onto the table. His heal was hanging off but he made it. Bart decided not to let Y/N have his victory and pushed him off gently.

Instead of whining about how that was technically cheating Y/N decided to have some fun. “Ow! It burns!” He yelled out. “Help me Bart!” He reaches his hand up for the speedster who was looking at him over the edge of the table. The two looked at each other and laughed.

“Oh no the love of my life has fallen! I will save you!” Bart exclaimed and jumped down to ‘save’ him. “Ow! I didn’t realise how or it would be! It hurts!” He said in a dramatic voice laying next to his boyfriend.

The two looked at eachother and laughed. It was one of the few times they got to do something like this without interruption. No mission, no one walking in, no one telling them to stop being so loud. They just got to have fun.

Their laughter died down as they looked at each other. They still had big smiles on their faces. Staring intensely into eachothers eyes.

They sat up, unable to unlock their eyes. Their faces grew close until their lips where together. This was their first real kiss. They had been dating for a while, but never got the chance for anything but pecks on the lips and the cheek.

When they pulled away Bart was the only one with something to say, “I win.” “Way to ruin the moment!” “Want to play again?” “Of course”
