it's okay to not be okay.

“you up?” the sound of rain accompanies you as you’re sat at your desk, waiting for a response beneath your written question. it’s one of those nights again. another night of endless tossing and turning because of thoughts—stupid thoughts. naturally, parts of your body find a rhythm as a way to shake out those bad thoughts, an impromptu exorcism you liked to joke. 

your fingers nervously drum against cherry wood, your leg bouncing in pursuit, and your heart races all at the same time, as you wait for a response. it’s four am, you weren’t exactly hopeful for one, but somehow, bart has yet to fail you.

“brley.” you’re calmed by the appearance of the black ink on your skin, smiling now. barely. he’s missing an ‘a’ but you figured you’d give him a pass considering how late it is.

“sorry. just wanted to see if you were still awake.” you write smaller than usual on your skin, accommodating for the longer sentence. 

“drinking a coke now! you ok?” his handwriting is sloppy as usual, but you find it endearing. it’s almost like he’s rushing to talk to you and you couldn’t complain about that—you do the same.

“4 am thoughts again?”  bart continues on before you could write a response. he’s always been a quick replier, impossibly fast at times.

it hasn’t been long since… all of this started happening. you never believed in having a soulmate, even attempted to refute the idea. but the existence of bart allen has convinced you into believing, maybe… just maybe, that he’s the one. bart always knew what was on your mind simply by how long it would take you to respond at times. that’s how impressive he is. he always knew what to say. not because he’s wise or smart (though, he is), but because he knew how to make you laugh. and you can feel yourself healing, though baby-steps, the more you spent time with him.

“you know me.”

“and i always want to know more! favorite cheesecake flavor? mine’s a basque.” you chuckle as more words appear on your skin, quickly extending over the length of your forearm as bart never cared to write small. “i know, it’s a little too fancy for me, but that caramelization is YUM!”

“and i thought you knew me, bart…” you write just as the previous responses vanish into your skin. “you know i don’t like sweets.”

“i know and it’s why i’ve docked you down to being 95% compatiable with me.” a smug smiley face with its tongue sticking out ends his sentence and you draw whatever you can imagine at the moment over it like you often do, both to your amusement.

for a moment, you forgot why you even woke him in the first place. bart makes time pass by, the problem and care of the world—of life—fleet away when you’re with him. but when you’re not, everything is numb. white noise follows you everywhere. the only reason why you come out of bed is to go to work, but you work idly, breathing as best as you can. living as best as you can.

you didn’t realize you’ve been staring off into space until you felt soft pressure applied to your forearm again, breaking your focus. “you never answered if you were okay or not.” 

it takes a moment, a long moment until you gather the courage to respond.

“honestly? no…” you sigh to yourself, admitting defeat. 

sometimes, there were days where you felt okay. but they were rare. you hated feeling like this. merely stating how you felt made you uncomfortable, but you’ve been lying to him, to yourself for so long. you aren’t okay. because the longer you lied to yourself, the more you hurt everybody, what’s left of everybody, around you.

you’ve stopped doing your favorite things again, opting to sleep the entire day away if you could. but you knew it was unhealthy. so you try. you try to make yourself okay, whatever that meant. going to the beach, taking a walk in the park, it was something. but you always found yourself wanting, dreaming to be one of those attributes that had people returning to those locations. the gentle sunset that warmed cold shores, the breeze that kept park benches cool, you wished you had that effect on someone—to have them return.

but to have them return is to get better, work towards being better. you’ve hurt a lot of people. those that have tried to help you, stood by you, but you’ve pushed them all away by now, and you’re alone. painfully alone.

“you remember what i told you from before, right?”

“yeah.”

you think to yourself, will bart return if something happened? if you were an ass to him? said or acted hurtful towards him? you knew you would never intentionally, but it’s a thought—a scary one. 

“it’s okay to not be okay.” you both write simultaneously, your print in small and bart’s in large.

you’re not doing well. you admit to yourself again, and that’s okay. you remind yourself, alongside with bart’s writing. it’s a part of life and most of all, a step in the right direction. to healing, to being better, to being okay.

“i’m always be here for you.”  “you always know what’s on my mind, bart.”

in no particular order,

Dick Grayson 8/10, i think of dick's flirting style is immaculate but he's kinda a flirtatious person in general so i knocked him down a point bc anyone he's flirting with will think it's just regular for him when he's really trying to put on the moves. The other point was knocked off because there's no chance in hell his brothers wouldn't interrupt his flirting as adorable as it is, 8/10.

Bart Allen 4.5/10, this is harsh, but it's bart. i mean his freakin name is bartholew and he's from the future. his version of flirting is probably blushing and giving you the nearest object to him then running away. we love him for it, but he's not smooth.

Jason Todd 9/10, god this man is smooth. i give him lots of points because i think his flirting strategies are immaculate and that he's less of a flirt than Dick so when he is flirting you know and it's fucking hot. -1 for Kory and Roy harassing the shit outta people hes crushing on.

Conner Kent 10/10, THIS IS NOT YOUNG JUSTICE ANIMATED CONNER KENT THIS IS THE HOT CONFIDENT SEXY STUDDED LEATHER JACKET DADDY LEX'S MONEY CONNER KENT THATS ALL I NEED TO SAY

Tim Drake 2/10, tim does not have the fucking time of day to be flirting and cutesy, he's a fucking business man and vigilante and depressed teen. the people tim dates either have been friends with him for a damn good while or put the moves on him and i stand by that.

Gar Logan 7/10, mf is smooth as hell but -2 because he's green and a movie star so like getting your average like coffee shop gorl would be a little difficult but other than that mans has game cuz he's dorky enough to be cute but confident and flirtatious too. 7/10 because he's one point below Dick.

Damian Wayne -1/10, this poor boi is so fucked up emotionally lets be real. he probably doesn't know he has feeling for someone until like 4 years into knowing them and then he would do the opposite of flirting. basically, it take special person (cough ris or jon cough) but him falling for them/getting them to fall for him is NOT flirting period.

Terry McGinnis 8/10, very comparable to Dick, fun and flirtatious and outgoing but i just don't think he has that jason todd swag yk? so 8/10 but he'd be like 8.2 because his smile is *chefs kiss*

Wally West 10/10, i cite both the Jinx episode of teen titans and his entire run on young justice GODDAMN mans is a flirt machine. he fucking invented flirting. all i'm saying is m'gann did not know what she was doing when she went with conner. end of story.

Jaime Reyes 5/10, he has more game than bart but that's about it. -3 for visible discomfort caused by the scarab, -1 for bart lmao, and -1 because he's a quiet little bean and though he could flirt like with a girl he's really really into he doesn't have that "pick you up off the street" mentality at ALL.

Batboys/YJ Boys Reaction To You Falling Asleep On Them Pt 2!

- i know for a fact dick has his phone full of goofy selfies of his poking your face or sticking his tongue out at you while you're asleep

- his all time favorite photo is this one where the two of you had to wake up early and you fell asleep at breakfast, it's a candid photo of dick with his cereal bowl dying of laughter as your face is smack in yours, needless to say it was a memorably rough morning :)

- he especially likes to let you fall asleep on him, he has no trouble with becoming a makeshift y/n bed, seeing as he's large enough for you to lie on top of him with no trouble at all lolz

- he cocoons his arms around you while you wrap yours behind his neck and he likes to lean down and kiss you, loving the way you lean into his touch even in your sleep

- occasionally you'll be joined by one of his younger siblings, it makes your heart burst open to see dick's beaming smile while he gets to hold all the people he loves most close to him for a few hours of bliss :)

conner kent:

- you had NO IDEA how comfortable conner would be but holy damn there is no better way to sleep than being carried bridal style in super strong arms hehe

- the feeling of being cradled and protected is enough to make you pass out literally anywhere

- conner thinks it’s the funniest thing too, he’s used to you climbing into his embrace and shushing him as he teases you about how light you are, loving the way you clutch the light fabric of his shirt while you sleep 

- he has no trouble carrying you with him, he’s been known to fly through drive thru’s WITH you half asleep in his arms, it was truly a feat to see him balancing 40 chicken nuggets, two sodas, and one y/n all by himself as he happily soars home 

- when he can’t stay, he likes to leave you wrapped in one of his tshirts, they’re always warm and comforting, reminding you that he’s with you whenever you need him, your closet is literally half filled with super-tshirts and you totally refuse to give them back, conner will complain and tease you but there’s a reason he never actually steals them back : )

duke thomas:

- for duke he thinks the fact you can fall asleep anywhere is adorable, and he's content just to be in your presence

- the two of you can often be found with you curled in his lap or resting against his chest passed out while he reads a book, does school work, or watches tv

- whatever he's doing he makes sure to take special care to rub his thumb in rhythmic circles on the back of your hand or your cheek

- he loves holding your hand, and usually he'll give you a comforting squeeze as you begin to drift to sleep

- the constant small dose of affection is always what pulls you into sleep and it's his warm lips that wake you up out of it

bart allen:

- barts reaction to you falling asleep depends on his mood drastically

- on one side, he'll think it's funny and will end up stacking as many items on your sleeping form as he can until you wake up with a crash and are rescued by his speedster abilities before anything can smack into your face

- sometimes he forgets you fall asleep and will continue talking to you animatedly for an embarrassingly long time until he realizes you haven't responded for like 5 minutes straight

- but on that rare occasion life is getting to him, or he's feeling especially soft, you can catch him just sitting next to you and staring, more like engraving, every curve of your face, every freckle, every smile line he likes to think he guided into existence- he'll sit in complete focus, dedicated to never forget a single thing about the love of his life

- his eyes go all soft, sometimes a little misty, and he just sits next to you, occasionally tucking a rogue piece of hair that fell when you shifted position or adjusting the blanket you threw over yourself, just purely in awe of how beautiful you are

- when you wake up he's back to normal, bouncy and bubbling up with laughter, but it's those special moments of peace that the most meaningful to him

- because he is so loving most of the hand holding is you forbidding him from other, more passionate touches

- his hands are large and calloused but soft, comforting when you intertwine with yours

- he’s constantly hugging you when you’re angry or stressed, like he just glances over and you’re frowning and in a split second you’re wrapped in his embrace as he rocks you back in forth 

- He’s kinda short too so he loves getting to call you shortstack and armrest and a million other adorable nicknames while you roll your eyes and remind him he’s not far off from armrest himself (he just gives you that signature snarky grin that never fails to gives you butterflies)
