“Do you miss me?” The hero croaked. Their voice was rough as sandpaper, throat bobbing with the lump in it.

Villain scoffed, not even looking back at their nemesis. Their feet kicked a previously discarded cigarette.

“It’s alright to miss me, I-“

“What are you talking about?” The villain growled, their head whipping over to glare at Hero, “I’m more than fine that you’re gone- in-fact, I’m bloody better than I was when you were here!”

Villain hated how perfect Hero looked. Absoloutely perfect. The wind ruffled their hair just right. The city seemed to just be… quiet for a moment.

The hero slowly stepped forward, leaning down and picking up the cigarette. They held it up between the two and spoke, “This… is not better… Its okay to miss me… I miss you too…”

Villain hated themself for the pain that burnt in their chest as they watched the illusion of Hero fade.

They felt the empty space, the hollowness of what once used to make them a whole.

Their hand dug into their pocket, their fingers digging into the cigarette box as they flung it out into the city under them.

I miss you too.

Harry Osborn who Knows™️ about Peter being Spiderman, seeing him about to be caught by a supervillain and almost having his identity being revealed around a huge crowd of people, panicking and doing the only thing he can think of, which is slamming into the villain with his car, and trying to play it off afterward like “oh man, typical rich dude of me to fail at driving, since I’m usually driven around by a chauffeur, totally didn’t mean to slam into this dude for any specific reason”

"You're a bad person." Hero whispered.

"So are you." Villain said softly, pressing their face into Hero's hair. "It's neither of our faults."

Hero let their face drift closer to the Villain's neck. They wanted to feel again, so badly. They wanted to throw themselves against them, to fall from their tightrope and just feel the exhilaration of anything other than endlessly balancing. "Villain, please."

Villain hummed into their hair. "You can step back." they said, bending so their lips brushed Hero's ear. "If you like."

Hero felt like they were going to collapse. They might have preferred that, to put some distance between themselves and Villain. "Villain..." They were almost ashamed of how breathy their voice came out sounding. "Please."

"I can leave if you want." they whispered, pulling back to let their eyes meet Hero's. "Just say the word."

Hero let their head fall to rest on Villain's shoulder. "Don't be cruel." They closed their eyes, savouring every breath they took.

"What was that, my love?" Their hands were soft on Hero's waist, holding them carefully, as if they were made of glass.

"I'm yours." they whispered. There was a sort of relief to saying it out loud, even if they felt like their voice was going to shatter with the weight of it. "So please," they drew in a shuddering breath, "don't be cruel."

actually i do think theres room for a fun(tragic) alternate reading where its not raffles that dies in knees of the gods but bunny- hes fading in and out of consciousness the whole time, losing blood, suffers a specific and severe injury; vs raffles who just (from bunny's pov) Stops Talking. and with both the novel and the last collection having a slightly different tone and being a little more objective and critical about raffles than the first two, maybe its raffles taking up the pen name

seeing people genuinely complain about the deaths in the acolyte and throwing around words like cruel and sadistic just once again has me thinking people need to actually sit and ponder on where a story is going and if it's something they can handle watching. nothing about the acolyte has implied it's anything besides a murder mystery, and features an entirely new cast of characters — something that, the last time we saw this in live action, ended in them all dying. just because something belongs to a franchise you love, doesn't mean you have to watch it, or that it has to be your cup of tea. It also doesn't make it bad storytelling if it's too brutal for your liking. The internet gives you every opportunity to make an informed opinion on what you consume, ultimately it's your responsibility, not the show's, to cater to what you can handle.

meet Bernie!

originally named Bernadetta (but she just goes by Bernie) it was build in 1949, with strong mechanisms destined for factory work and a red matter core installed at the back of her head - to keep it as high and far away from dangerous tools and chemicals as possible. it did great in it's work - until a tragedy from the shoreline made general attitudes more and more hostile towards the "robots"

after the story of Giewont broke the news, Bernie's work got tougher as people all around her either feared or outright despised her for what she was. when one day it finally fought back against the harassment, her anger was too great to control. it ended up seriously injuring two of her co-workers and losing its job

with no place in the world that deemed her dangerous, she stuck to the only thing that brought her relief - anger. with all the injustice that happened to her, she decided to pin the blame on the one who started it all - Giewont. it didn't help that her now biggest enemy escaped the country and was never caught. Benrie promised itself to get its revenge one way or another, resentment getting worse with each day she was stuck in the smoking ruins of a hostile country while Giewont left god knows where.

but there was another thing that kept her going. messing around with nothing to life for, Bernie found refuge in creating films. hanging around the producers and actors, perfecting the craft, it found itself amongst the creative group of people who inspired each other. and she drank it all in, sticking out even more from the crowd - if that's even possible with a plasma-ball like head. she also picked up a fancy for motorcycles :]

still, the general public opinions on robots didn't change. that's why it found itself on a mission - to Make Them Understand. because surely, once everyone knows the Truth, they wouldn't treat her so bad. they would know better.

set on her quest to create a movie conveying the Absolute Truth, it found itself in a role of a screenwriter and a director - still, no actors could play their roles as well as she imagined. and so, it's still lead on by three things that power her - revenge, inspirstion and the need to Show Them All

but behind it all. she's still such a loser<3
