"Father, I'm not with Nightwing!" Rose denied with anger. (Batfamily Chronicles Microfiction Series)
Rose Wilson (answering her phone with an annoyed tone): Father, what?!
Slade: Wow, no greetings? I called you.
Rose (sighing): Hello Father... What is it? I'm... incredibly... busy.
Slade: Why have you betrayed me?
Rose breaths heavy with Jason on top of her.
Rose (confused): What?
Slade: You know what I am talking about.
Rose: I don't and ... busy at the moment.
Slade: Okay, you've brought down my hand. How dare you take Nightwing as a partner?!
Rose: What?!
Jason: What- Whoa!
Jason falls off the bed, grunting when he hit the ground. Rose sat up, readjusting her shirt.
Rose: I am not with him!
Slade: Don't lie to me! I've heard you've been canoodling with a member from the batfamily! That weakling is the only one I know of. What will you do to regain my trust?
Rose: Oh good Lord. Red Hood, I'm with Red Hood! He's not Nightwing. I would not be with Nightwing and not just because I'd 'lose your trust', but because he is not even in my radar and you'd definitely kill him.
Jason: I'm used to pain, but I'd rather not be killed again.
Rose: Hood, shush. That's him with me at the... Gym.
Slade: Red Hood? Hood? The red helmet man?
Rose (sly): I mean that's one of his suits.
Slade: Okay... I've heard mixed information about him. Think I met him once. Killed by the Joker- That's why you wanted me to beat him up?!
Jason: You did what?
Rose (sighing): Yes, I should've taken this off speaker.
Slade (focusing on the topic): Underhanded, manipulative... I'm proud of you, Roswell.
Rose: My name is just Rose.
Slade: I said that. As for this Hood man... I don't trust him, but I hate the Joker, but he's a member of the batfamily. Tsk, you're making this hard for me, Daisy.
Rose (sighing, frustrated): Rose.
Slade: Uh huh, said that.
Rose: If it helps he doesn't completely follow Batman's 'no-kill' rule.
Slade: It's a start. I'll be monitoring this relationship with my good eye, but if he brings your allegiance to their side, I will gut him like a fish and no green water will bring him back to life.
Jason: The fuck?
Rose: Okay, thanks father. My allegiance stays with you.
Slade: It better stay that way.
Rose ends the call and rubs her forehead as Jason sits next to her.
Rose: He's insane, I'm sorry.
Jason: I already knew enough about him and we did meet, rude he doesn't remember me. Let's just say I'm not shocked he's like that. No sorry needed.
Jason kisses Rose on the cheek then he chuckles.
Jason: He thought you were hooking up with Dick.
Rose: Yeah, I almost vomited when he said that.
Jason (chuckling): You tossed me to the ground, by the way. Ouch.
Rose (coy): Oh like I haven't done that in the past.
Jason kissed her neck.
Jason: You got him to attack the Joker?
Rose: Yup, lengthened his sentence too and I heard the clown had to eat his food through a straw.
Jason: You're so hot to me right now.
Rose: You don't have to state the obvious.
Rose giggles as she snuggles against Jason's chest. He rubs her back as they relax.

Chapter Thirteen: Open (Laney's POV)
Eddie and I slept in the same room most nights, but he seemed kind of different after a party we went to. His friend was there. So instead of inviting me to his room, he asked if I could sleep in my room alone or sleep in Rose’s room. I tried to sleep alone because I felt odd about being alone with Rose after our exchange. But, I tossed and turned all night. It was awful. I’d grown accustomed to sharing a bed. Rose knocked on my door around two, telling me she couldn’t sleep, so I let her in. “Is Eddie mad at me?” I asked.
“Oh, no… Lane, his friend isn’t sleeping in there . You—. They’re being discrete,” Rose whispered.
“About what?” I asked.
Rose lay back, staring up at the ceiling. “They’re being intimate, Laney,” Rose explained.
A long silence followed before Rose spoke again. “Laney, did you see anybody at the party that you wanted to—.” I turned on my side to look at her. “Do you ever think about it?”
“Um… Not really. I’m starting to think attraction is far more than just seeing someone as beautiful,” I replied.
“Yeah. That’s how it works… And you might not be the type to meet someone at a party. Maybe you need a more lowkey event. Are you interested in dating?” Rose asked. I wasn’t sure. I’d never had friends before Eddie and Rose, so I couldn’t really imagine navigating dating life when I barely understood the inner workings of friendship.
“I don’t know… I think I want to figure out friendship a little more first,” I answered. Rose turned to me.
“Have you thought about your mom lately?” Rose questioned. I nodded.
“All the time now,” I whispered. And we didn’t say anything else. I can’t remember which one of us fell asleep first.
**
Rose made me go to the mall with her the following morning to pick up clothes for homecoming. She was adamant that I go because I’d never been to a school dance. Eddie agreed, and he said he’d meet us after he got off work. We split up around noon, and Rose told us to meet at the food court at two. I hadn’t had a run-in with the mysterious cameraman for a few weeks, so I thought it’d be fine. I went into a store to buy soap, walking around quietly, smelling things that caught my eye. I bought a few things that smelled like coffee and a soap that smelled like honey before I noticed a toy store. I’d never been to a toy store before, and my curiosity drew me near it. “Conner!” a woman shouted. “Conner!”
The name sounded familiar, but I kept walking until I saw something that triggered a memory. It all felt like a dream. I remember holding my mom’s hand, searching for a stuffed giraffe. I remembered feeling a pain in my head as my ears rang. I passed out in that very same store. I sank to the ground in the present day with tears in my eyes. I had a mother, and she was in the city with me. My phone rang, and I answered. “Hello?” I asked in tears.
“Lane? Are you okay?” Rose asked.
I couldn’t catch my breath. My head was spinning, and I felt like the world was coming to an end. “I think I’m—. I can’t breathe,” I whispered.
“Lane, where are you right now?” Rose asked.
“Is Lane alright?” Eddie questioned in the background. I tried to focus on their voices.
“The toy store,” I answered.
“We’re right by there,” Rose replied, “It’s okay.”
**
Rose and Eddie dropped me off on campus, and my dad called to tell me he’d be in town for the end of the family week. So, I took that as an opportunity to ask about my mother. “Father, I—. I had a memory of my mother today… Of her taking me to a toy store. I think I—. What I mean to ask is—? Father, what happened to my mother?” I questioned as I walked around campus.
“Laney, we should speak about this in person,” Father replied, “I’ll see you on Friday. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye, Father. I love—.” He hung up on me. I was used to it. Sometimes, he was in a rush or something important happened that I couldn’t see.
I felt someone run into me, wrapping their arms around me, and I almost dropped my phone. “Sorry, baby,” he whispered, “I just missed you. How about we go back to my car and…” He kissed my neck. I flinched away.
“What are you doing?” I asked. I have to admit I felt strangely warm all over when he kissed my neck. He looked into my eyes.
“Are you still sick?” he asked. I squinted at him. “I just figured the way you talked to me on the phone the other day… I thought that you would still be in the mood. I’m sorry.”
“I don’t think I’m the person you’re talking about… Everyone’s been mistaking me for someone else. I guess we must look a lot alike,” I explained. He leaned forward, almost studying me.
“It’s uncanny… I um—. I’m so sorry about the misunderstanding… And thanks for not—. It must be kind of tough,” he stammered. I shook my head.
“It’s not that bad… Is he your boyfriend?” I questioned.
He shook his head. “We’re not serious. I wanna be, but I get the vibe that he’ll stop seeing me the second I start talking about commitment. You get it. Don’t you?” he asked.
“I’m afraid not… I’ve never been in a relationship. This is actually my first time being around people my age,” I answered, “I’ve never had friends before or anything like that.”
“So… You’ve never been kissed before?” he asked. I shook my head, almost holding my breath. “Would you like to be kissed?” My breath hitched, and I couldn’t speak. He was attractive. I watched his lips curve into a soft ‘o’. His lips were pretty. Thick and pink. I imagined they were soft, and I found myself nodding slowly as he touched my face and leaned forward. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears as his lips brushed mine. “Part your lips like you’re whispering the word, ‘open’.” I kept my eyes shut as I obeyed him. His lips were hot and wet against mine. My lips were clumsy, but I started to catch on to his rhythm. He kissed me until I was breathless.
I pulled away and whispered a weak, “Thank you.” He laughed.
“I’m Reed,” he smiled as he reached out to shake my hand.
“My name is Laney Hausler… I know I’m not the boy you were looking for, but I think the taco truck is behind the science building today. Would you like to split a burrito?” I offered. Reed nodded as he took my hand. I almost felt weak after that. I squeezed his hand, and he looked at me.
The quiet was pleasant, but I took him behind the science building where we split a burrito and talked about books. He was an English major. I thought he was so interesting. “You know, there’s a little book club that meets off campus every Thursday night. I don’t know if you drink or not, but they have pretty good alcohol there. If not, they’ve got sodas and juice. If you want to branch out and make a few more friends, that’s a good place to start,” Reed suggested, “Here. Give me your phone. I’ll text you the info.” The speed with which I fell for him was dizzying so much that I didn’t stop to think about his confusing relationship with the boy who favored me.

So Nightwing 83 is out;
Pros and Cons of it?
I experienced so many emotions while reading that. I need to take a fucking walk holy shit. I'm buzzin'. But, okay, pros and cons. Let's gooo.
I'm still not sure if I'm really all that stoked about Melinda actually being Dick's sister, but I like that Dick still doesn't trust her. I want him to look for more evidence behind what she's saying before he really decides to partner with her though.
Dick's exchange with Audre about him breaking in was kinda funny. "Oh, yeah. I suppose I did."
The helicopter scene was cool even though it looked stupid for him to launch himself right into the line of fire where he could've easily been riddled with bullets (and somehow wasn't).
I don't like that Babs is still wearing that shirt. I actually forgot she was wearing that, so seeing it so suddenly when she was rushing to help Dick was like, "Oh, yeah. There's that thing I hate."
I thought it was weird how Babs casually told Dick that he had been asleep for two days. Like, hellur. Dick got kicked in the head so hard that he blacked out, and he was also hit in the head again prior to that. You're telling me Babs wasn't at all concerned about the reasoning behind him sleeping for two days being brain trauma related? If I knew someone who had been hit in the head so hard that they went unconscious, and if they showed no signs of waking up after a normal amount of sleeping time had passed after said event occurred, I would be freaking the fuck out and calling an ambulance. Just saying.
"Tim's been patrolling for you." You been reading fanfics, Taylor? Ha, I'm kidding.
Dick wearing Converse made me 😂.
I do like that we got to see Dick consulting people in his social circle. I like that he went to his friends for their opinions because that's what we all do irl. We ask our friends for advice and ideas. It also continues to show us that Dick will use his personal connections to help him achieve something.
I gotta admit, the Dick and Clark scene really fucking got me. I'm a sucker for scenes between them. This interaction reaffirmed that Dick did indeed get the Nightwing name from Clark, and it also reaffirmed that Dick is an extremely respected person in the cape community.
"You're a lot like him, you know?" Okay, thanks, Clark. I didn't need my heart today.
Tbh, the thing that really got me was Clark asking Dick to look out for Jon, and Clark thinking of Dick as the ultimate role model. That... speaks so much about Dick's character. Like just think about it. Superman thinks that Dick is the best possible person that Jon could grow up to be like. And it's not just Clark who thinks this either. Oh, no. Slade fucking Wilson thinks so too (at least to some extent) which is exactly why he wanted Rose to adopt Dick's values (via Rebirth Deathstroke #19).
This issue just proved that DC editors sure ain't working hard enough because there was a damn typo during Dick's speech. It should've read, "Too many good people have fallen in Bludhaven," instead of, "To many good people have fallen in Bludhaven." Like come onnn. I betcha they're using the same editor who approved the "Romani smile" line. Yeesh.
The things Dick wanted to do with The Alfred Pennyworth Foundation made me laugh because when Dick was talking about his plans with Clark, Dick was like, "I'm worried it's too small," and Clark was like, "It's not small, it's focused." Focused? It sounds like Dick is trying to tackle a pretty hefty amount of social, economical, and environmental issues. I mean, okay, so he's focusing on Bludhaven mostly. I'll give him that.
Tim's text to Dick made me laugh because, well, yeah. Yeah. Jason texting Dick is... interesting. I have mixed feelings about Jason's current place in the family dynamic, so part of me is like, "Cool," and the other part of me is like hmm... that's a little fanon-y.
Either way, I just think it's funny to imagine all the bats stopping what they're doing to watch Dick talk on TV. You do have to kind of think of them as the Kardashians in a way when stuff like this comes up. Because, yeah, they've seen each other on TV before so it's not like they'd all be rushing to the nearest TV while yelling, "Hurry up! Dick's on TV!" but he is important to them, and they do want to support him still (even though I am questioning said support a bit because writers haven't built up Steph and Cass's relationship with Dick enough so this whole thing feels a little too "perfect family" for my tastes).
Also! Damian texting Dick! We have to assume that Damian is tracking his family (or, at least, tracking Dick specifically) on the web. How else would he have known to watch Dick's speech? Unless someone texted him about it. But uh... that kinda doesn't make sense with Damian running away from his fam and everything.
Heartless referring to Dick as "my first." Hm. Okay. I feel like I need him to be more intimidating or something. His whole aesthetic reminds me of that kabuki mask-wearing dude from Big Hero 6. Yokai/Robert dude. But less ominous.
All in all, I definitely appreciate some of the relationships that were shown in this issue. I still just find the massive support Dick is suddenly getting from all of his friends and family to be a little... off-putting. Specifically, because this arc takes place after the amnesia arc where we got nearly none of that same support. It feels like two large, opposing extremes. The amnesia arc wasn't enough, and in comparison, Taylor's arc almost feels like overkill because of it. As if he's trying to compensate for the lack of support by being like Look At All The Support Over Here! And If You Look To Your Right, Guess What You'll See? More Support!!
I guess it's weird to complain about Dick getting loved on but, narratively, the degree to which it's occurring compared to the last arc just doesn't feel right. There's a lack of build to a satisfying balance.

[image: a series of comic panels showing rose wilson worth (ravager) talking to edward bloomberg (kid devil). rose has her mask off and is touching her face. she says “why? Why do you think you and I are even titans right now?” Eddie says “robin asked us to be,” and rose says “because his real friends said ‘no’. if wonder girl becomes a titan again, guess who’s going to be the first one kicked off this team? Me. and I can’t go back out there. Slade’s out there. He’ll pump me full of that super-serum again... the last time that happened I carved out my own eye... this time... who the hell knows.” Eddie says “They aren’t going to kick you out. Nightwing told robin you had to be on this team.” Rose says “yeah. but nobody wants me here.” Kid devil says “I do, rose.” rose smiles slightly and says “you’re such a freak.” end image]
so like ugh i hate this cuz i hate this comic but liked this scene.
we can actually get good scenes with rose when the writers’ aren’t having her uncharacteristically fawn over tim
anyway i haven’t read the first 33 issues of this run so i missed the scene where rose cut her own eye out but i DO think we get to see her fear of slade here and it contextualizes why she wants to kill him in batgirl 2008 very well. i support her.
also like. it makes sense taht she feels zero support from the other titans! Tim pretty much makes it clear via his actions (and vic via his words) that raven gar and cassie are who they REALLY want back. which it makes sense FOR THEM that they want things to get back to normal, and for them normal is having their friends all back, but it certainly would be alienating for rose

Chapter 3: 5 Years Later.
Description: So... I know many Daminette fans don't like Damian being younger than Marinette so 🚨SPoiler AleRT 🚨 Damian is gonna be younger for a while but an event happens that gets their ages exchanged. (Sort of)
Warning; swearing, angst.
Summary: its 5 years now, since half the human race was wiped out...
Previously
"Bruce" Selina called before completely fading out. The same happened to Steph, Cass, Chloe, Alfred, Dick, Duke, Kate and lastly...
Marinette.
That day, Half the world was wiped out because of the infinity stones.
Never to return ever again.
***
The entire world was mourning.
mourning over the loss of their families, Friends.
Gotham was worse and better, less thieves but more sadness.
Poison ivy looked at her wilting flowers, The sunshine of Gotham was gone, Marinette was gone.
So was Harley.
The justice league, at least what was remaining of them, Tried everything they thought of, anything you name it but none of them succeeded.
The rest of the Wayne's could only mourn. They lost the only people that could cheer them...
Tim tried his best to mend his family, but he couldn't mend himself. Damian and Bruce avoided everyone. Like father, like son. Damian couldn't believe it. He remembered that night clear as day. The day the people he most loved vanished. He missed Marinette the most, her bright smile, her laughter, her big blue mesmerizing eyes.
Tikki and the rest of the kwamis would try and fail at bringing their beloved guardian/owner back. Damian was the new guardian now. But he wasn't an official guardian ,No, not without Marinette granting it.
Five years passed by.
The world moved on.
Tim was the new Co-CEO of Wayne enterprises. Damian was a sophomore. Jason was Jason... Just kidding. He met a girl named Rose Wilson, Slade Wilsons daughter. Yes, Slade a.k.a deathstroke . And Bruce was still Batman.
Damian walked down the porch calmly, sensing Tim's anger from a mile. He walked straight at the old black car before opening the door and sitting in.
"You know for a young person, you walk really slowly." Tim said, driving out of the open gates "sorry old man." Damian snorted sarcastically "you could have just gone to Wayne enterprise, I could have hot wired one of Jason old bikes"
"Yeah, No. besides I like dropping you to school demon spawn" Tim smiled
"Don't fucking call me that"
"Language" Tim said sternly "I know Alfred isn't here but that doesn't mean you can forget your manners"
"Yeah... is that why you like dropping me off to school? Sitting in Alfred's place thinking about...Them."
"Yeah"
"Remember that day when We tried to make those cookies?" Damian asked staring out the window.
"Oh god, they were so damn salty" Tim laughed "Alfred and Mari were so angry at the mess we made, Do you remember Mari?"
"Yeah, of course" Damian answered
"You guys were pretty close."
"I guess"
"And boy, did you flirt a lot with her! You were ridiculous at flirting!" Tim laughed
"He's right, you know?" Plagg finally spoke up, popped out of Damian's bag
"why are you taking his side?!" Damian hissed
"Give me camembert and maybe I won't."
"Oh God, please don't take that out." Tim scrunched his nose in disgust when he saw Damian reaching out to his bag. Plagg eagerly sniffed on the piece of Camembert before eating it whole.
"Oh heavens" Tim gagged
"Stop being so dramatic. besides, Damien was actually much better at flirting then you were." Plagg smirked, keeping his promise "did you know that sometimes the other kwamis and I watch you try flirting? Ahhhh...it was an amazing comedy show"
Damian choked trying to contain his laughter as Tim glared at both of them "it's not funny!"
The ride was Quiet... until Tim asked him something unexpected "have you found a new ladybug miraculous holder?"
"No." He said, bluntly
"You're not looking" Tim sighed "Damian, you have to. You cannot use the cat miraculous for long without the Ladybug miraculous". Damian remained silent, unable to answer. How could he do that? He just...couldn't.
"I'll see you later Drake." The boy said putting on his blazer and opening his pocket to let Plagg in.
"See you later baby brother." Tim smiled "oh, by the way...I think she would really like you."
"Who?" Damian asked, confused
"Marinette"
Damian face turned beet red and Tim looked at him surprise "OMG! Are you blushing?!, baby bird obviously didn't move on from his childhood crush."
"Shut the hell up Drake." Damian hissed looking around in embarrassment "you are so dead."
"Ha! I'd like to see you try" he winked before speeding away
***
Damian sighed during the mathematics period, why did he have to come to Gotham university anyway? He knew everything he needed to and being there was a total waste of time. He raised a hand asking the teachers permission to use the washroom, she nodded as he walked out the classroom.
Damian splashed water on his face. Looking at the mirror, sighing
"I've been thinking bout' what Tim said and I think you should look for another ladybug." Plagg blurted out causing Damian to freeze
"We've already talked about this Plagg, NO"
"Damian you were bound to her, I know. But she's gone. They're gone. You have to accept that. Do you think they would want this? Find another one. Move on"
"I can't"
"That's because you're not trying! whether you like it or not Marinette is gone!" Plagg yelled "The only reason you can't move on is that you're choosing not to. She wouldn't want that, she would never want that. she didn't know that you were at her Cat! she just thought that you were a temporary fit until she found the right one. But you weren't, and when She figured that out she tota-"
"What's that noise?" Damian interrupted
"Seriously? I was in the middle of my speech!" Plagg huffed.
Damien walked outside looking around only to find chaos, students of every grade were running about and most of them were rushing at the exits.
"Hey, what's going on?!" Damian yelled over the loud noise, at his friend- I mean accomplices.
"They're back!, They're back!, They're back!" Maps yelled excitedly, almost jumping at him
"Who's back?!"
"The people who disappeared 5 years ago!"

Could/Should/Did: Steve Rogers--Did
Steve Rogers x reader
Word Count: 672
Summary: How it did go--aka honesty is the best policy
“I guess we should have that talk now, huh?”
“I guess so.”
You took a deep breath to calm yourself. You’d decided exactly what you were going to do on the trip back home. You had a plan, you told yourself. Granted, it was a terrible plan that Slade had bitched himself blue in the face once you told him what it was. But it was a plan all the same. Besides, eventually he admitted that he’d have your back no matter what, a sentiment that reminded you yet again just how far he’d come as a parent since Joey and Rose.
Still, those warm feelings evaporated in light of the frosty look in Steve’s bright blue eyes.
You sighed, hand idly playing with your duffle’s strap; you were unwilling to put it down in case this whole thing went tits-up. “How familiar are you with the mercenary world?”
“Enough.” There was a steeliness in his tone that you’d only ever seen in footage of him on the job. You hated it.
Still, ‘blunt’ was practically the family name instead of ‘Wilson.’ “Then I assume you’ve heard of Deathstroke?”
His jaw clenched. “Once or twice.” You weren’t sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing that he knew of your father. Good was you didn’t have to explain. Bad was he knew exactly what he did for a living.
“His real name is Slade Wilson, in case you didn’t know. He’s my father, and I work with him. You might have heard him yelling at me through the phone.” You felt like your words were running together gracelessly, but you didn’t want to stop, because if you did, you weren’t sure you could make yourself finish. “If you’ve heard of someone that goes by Nyx, that’s me.”
Silence.
You squirmed under his stare. “Steve?” you called weakly. You didn’t want to lose him. Not like this. That was the whole reason for the secrecy, because if anything would drive him away, it was you being a murderer for hire.
He took one of those harsh breaths people take when preparing to speak. “You told the truth.” It was a statement. “I don’t think I expected that.”
Wait, was this a set-up? How did he know? The questions were half formed in your mind as your hand slid down to the concealed button on the duffle’s strap, the one that would instantly send an SOS to Slade. You didn’t ask those questions, though. You stayed frozen, wanting to know where he was going with this.
“I asked Nat,” he explained without prompting.
Your heart skipped. What does SHIELD know? Am I blown?
“She said it wasn’t easy to find out who you really are, if that’s any consolation. Had to go through some old contacts of hers since SHIELD had nothing.”
Whew. You remained still.
“I just wanted to know if you would tell me the truth after all this. I had to know if any of it was real.”
“Dad didn’t want me to tell you anything,” you blurted lamely. “Said it was too risky. But I wanted to because this is real.”
“Well,” the faintest smirk you’d ever seen started to form on his lips, “I’m glad you didn’t listen.”
Hope bloomed in your chest, so you joked, “He doesn’t know everything, despite what he usually thinks.” You had so many questions. You wanted to ask where this line of conversation was going, but you still held your tongue.
“I’d like to meet him sometime soon.”
That set your heart racing again. “Yeah?”
That smirk grew. “We need to have some serious conversations about all this,” he jabbed his thumb at the not-so-secret armory, “but yeah. I think I should finally meet him.”
Your shoulders slumped in relief. “You’ll have plenty to talk about, at least,” you teased, mouth running away without a filter now that you felt like you were on even ground again. You set the bag down on the table and linked your pinky finger with his. “He’s almost as old as you are, after all.”
“Hey!”

Titans 2x05 Gar and Rachel Rewrite
(A bit of context:
I’ve had the idea of doing a Titans season 2 rewrite and this is something that’s spawned out that. It’s Gar and Rachel’s argument from episode 5 but with some touch ups here and there, the main one being a new context.
At the end of episode 1 Kori goes with Dick to help him train the new Titans. After deathstroke finds out about the Titan’s revival, he sends his daughter Rose Wilson {Aka Ravager} to break into the tower and see what they can do. She is captured by the team and kept in a cell within the tower for interrogation. Dick is especially paranoid about Deathstroke due to the Titans history with the Terminator and begins training the kids non-stop. Jason Todd talks to Rose and is able to get the location of Slade’s base. After an incident where Rachel loses control and nearly kills Jason, Gar goes to check on him. Jason tells Gar about the intel he dug up from Rose and Gar has the idea for him and Jason to sneak out there and take on Dr Light. The two face Dr Light and take him down relatively easily, but just when they think the fight is over, a smoke bomb erupts and Jason is taken by Deathstroke. Gar returns to the tower in a panic to find Rachel injured but breathing and Rose gone.)
Rachel eyes slid open like a slow garage door as the dim orange of the room lights lit her vision. She looked around slowly scanning the area, broken glass, flipped tables, the Titans common room was not looking its best to say the least. Her eyes still a fog of colour, but she noticed what looked to be a person with a familiar shade of green hair. “G-gar?” She tried to sit herself up only to be shot with an awful throbbing on her head and side.
“Take it easy, Rach.” He said, “You got hit pretty bad.” she ran her head across her forehead, finding a bandage. He slid a small bowl across the table, “I made soup. It’s not much but it sure as hell beats cauliflower pizza.” She slowly tired to push herself up, gritting her teeth. Gar rushed around to support her as she made the ninety degree tilt. Grabbing the accompanying spoon she went to get a small amount to taste, “Don’t worry, I made sure it was tongue-burn proof.”
“Greatly appreciated.” She took a spoonful of the soup, “This is really nice, you’re not that bad of a cook.” She looked at her other arm, which was clenched to her waist, she took notice of the tight bandage and she could feel the stitches underneath it. “And not that bad of a nurse either.”
“Learnt from the best. Larry is an amazing chef, he’s good with bandages too.”
She lightly chuckled before recoiling back from the pain laughing inflicted on her waist. “You didn’t get too scared did you? When you found me half dead on the floor?”
“More scared of the blood than I was for you. You’ve survived worse.” He replied with a smirk.
“Gee thanks.” She replied sarcastically, the pair chuckled. “Where were you?” She asked, “I couldn’t find you or Jason last night.” She asked, quickly recalling her small search for the boys before Rose’s blade gashed her side during her escape.
“Well, you know that signature I found? I took Jason there to get the drop on Dr Light. Jason needed a win after yesterday, obviously that turned into a major loss.”
“On your own?” She exclaimed, ready to chastise him, only stopping when she realised he had already suffered a lecture from Dick. “What about Jason? I was expecting that wiseass to have something to say.” She returned to a more stoic tone of voice.
“Jason... Jason is missing.” He lowered his head in shame. “He was taken by Deathstroke and we haven’t found him.”
“Oh shit.” She displayed an uncharacteristic level of concern for Robin. Rachel glanced over to Gar’s wrist, noticing a scratch mark not unlike the one she had on her back. He quickly pulled down his sleeve over the wound. “Gar what was that?” She spoke with urgency.
“It’s nothing... -it’s fine.” It wasn’t nothing, nor was it fine, but he didn’t feel right trying to push a confrontation with Rachel right now, as much as he may want to.
“Gar.” She persisted, “Tell me.” Gar paused for a moment, the itch to confront her was becoming unbearable and her indirect invitation only irritated it more and more. He finally spoke.
“How long has it been happening?” He said, his voice edging between a whisper and regular speech.
“Has what been happening?” She pretended to not know.
“You know exactly what I mean.” He got slightly louder. Rachel paused, her lack of words exuding guilt. “Care to explain why this scary tentacle thing erupted from your hand and cut me?”
“I-i’m sorry...”
“Rachel, why haven’t you been honest with me? About your powers.”
“...And you’re a paragon of truth?” She retorted with a deadpan voice. “It’s not my fault Jason is missing and I nearly went postal.”
“Are you saying it’s mine?”
“I didn’t say that.” She rolled her eyes, diverting her gaze away from him.
“Then what’s the face for?”
“...It’s nothing.” She continued to break eye contact.
“What?” He exclaimed as more of a statement than a question.
She then looked him dead in the eye. “I understand, why you didn’t tell Dick about your little plan, but you could’ve come to me.”
“Rach-”
“Because you decided to sneak off and play hero, I was horribly outmatched when Rose escaped. If you were planning to go, for fuck sake you could’ve at least told me! I could’ve helped if you didn’t keep it a secret.”
“How? You can’t even control yourself!”
“Excuse me?”
“Yeah, I saw you yesterday at the training room. You couldn’t bring it back in. Dammit, Rachel you nearly killed Jason! Not to mention your creepy black cloud of razor blades that nearly took my hand off. I least now I know where you got those marks on your back”
“Oh, so you’re spying on me now?”
“I’m not spying on you, I saw it when we were sparring. Don’t come at me about keeping secrets.”
Rachel stood up in spite of the physical pain it caused. “First of all, my powers are fine. If I had been there, the guy wouldn’t know up from down and Jason would be home safe and sound to make more stupid decisions with you. What did you do, Gar? Did you growl at him, was he real scared? If you and Jason hadn’t been so stupid and thought it through, then none of this would’ve happened-”
“Screw you!” His eyes turned from a calming hazel to an acidic green, the match inside him sparking into a flame before simmering back. He saw the mix of fear, anger and sadness in her face. “Rachel I...” His speech tapered, “I didn’t mean- I’m sorry I-”. She said nothing, just slowly walked off to the computer room, holding her side.
Gar slumped to the floor, head in his palms, staring at the bowl of soup he made, going cold. “I’m such an Idiot.”

Still Falling (For You)
This is my first Jason Todd oneshot for Titans, and I’m really excited about it! I made a post asking if you guys would be interested in this, and it got a much bigger response than I anticipated. Luckily for everyone who said yes, I had a really good idea tonight and now I’m super inspired to write it, so here it goes. This takes place in season 2 episode 7, and I guess you can imagine it as something of a replacement for the scene between Jason and Rose. I hope you guys like it!
Taglist: @dreamwritesimagines @rhabakoli
Wordcount: 1500
Warnings: Mentions of death. Some PTSD.
He was just standing there. Staring out of the window, eyes flicking up and down, up and down, like he was watching something. Seeing something you couldn’t see. You, for your part, were also just standing there, leaning against the doorframe.
You weren’t sure if it would be better to say something or not. Was that what one did in these kinds of situations? Say something deep and insightful that made everything better? You weren’t sure you had something like that. So instead you went with what you did know.
“You’re not, you know,” you said quietly.
“What?” Jason startled, turning to look at you with wide green eyes.
“Dead and gone. The name of this song. You’re not dead and gone. I’m not sure this song is appropriate for the moment.” Your tone was light, forcing a small smile onto your face.
“You’re turned on,” he said.
You laughed a little bit. Trust Jason Todd to make a joke in his darkest moments.
“Yeah. I am feeling the full spectrum of human emotion right now.”
“Dick told me. About earlier.”
“He asked me to.”
You had originally thought of your power as something totally and completely useless. You couldn’t fly or turn into a tiger or even summon weird dark goop things to do your bidding. All you could do was turn off your emotions. Your ability to feel? Completely gone if you willed it to be. You were the opposite of an empath, able to turn it off at a moment’s notice. Dick had recognized it for it’s potential though. Being raised by the Batman had shown him what advantages apathy had, and he realized that you could be a prime strategist with your ability to turn off your feelings and be purely logical. A truly objective opinion.
“And you still decided it would be best to save me. Are you sure you turned them off?” Jason scoffed lightly.
You stepped forward, closer to where he still stood by the window. “Of course I’m sure. It’s not something you can just kind of do, Jason. Why would you ask that?”
“Is that would really be best for the team, Y/N? To save me? Because I’m not sure that’s what I think. I’m...I’m not...I’m worthless.”
You could see the tears welling up in his eyes and you wanted to reach out, take his hand, touch him. Ever since you had discovered the ability to turn off your emotions it seemed as though they meant more when they were turned on.
“You’re not, Jason. Not to me. Not to anyone on this team. We may do a crappy job of showing it, but we care about you. Every one of us.”
“Tell me that with your feelings turned off and maybe then I’ll believe you,” he spat, turning harshly away from you, eyes turning back towards the window.
You paused, the record spinning to its end. “Is that what you really want? To know what I think about you when my emotions are turned off?”
He didn’t answer, so you made your decision.
It was immediately obvious to anyone who knew you when your emotions were turned off. The cold, calculating look in your eyes. The empty tone of your voice. Your brusque, precise body language and word choice. You were a whole different person without feelings. A person who stepped in front of him now, demanding attention.
“Jason Todd. Batman’s protege. A little bit overenthusiastic sometimes. Brings light to the team. Reminds everyone to look on the bright side and to see the good in their situation. Kind. Intelligent. Excellent fighter. Valuable asset. Rose Wilson. Unknown factor. Could be a double agent. Could be genuinely in need of help and also a valuable bargaining chip. Too high of a risk factor. Too many unknowns. Do whatever it takes to bring Jason Todd home. This team needs him.”
Jason was staring at you, breathing hard, eyes wide with something you might have recognized if you could feel anything.
“Turn it back on,” he ordered.
It took a moment of concentration, an effort, but then the switch was flipped and you were back and you could see what was in his eyes now. Tears, slipping out of them, and a sort of helplessness.
“Tell me what you think. I want to know what you think of me, really.”
“No,” you said, daring a step closer. “You want to know how I feel about you. I’ll tell you. I’m happy when I’m around you, Jason Todd. You’re funny. And I was right, you really do always see the bright side of things. I swear you could turn a rainy day in Gotham into a picnic. And you’re really, really smart. Sometimes I think you’re the only person who understands what I’m saying around here, because Rachel is too young to get most of it, Gar’s lived a lot of life but not like we have, and Dick is too old and too emotionally distant himself to get it. You’re the only person who gets me in this whole place, Jason Todd. You understand me, and I like to think that I understand you too in some kind of weird way. Now can we please listen to something a little more appropriate for the fact that you are alive, and here, and I am so so so happy about that?”
He smiled at you, and if you didn’t know any better you’d say he looked a bit in awe of you.
“Yeah, whatever you want. Just don’t scratch my vinyl.”
“The day I scratch a vinyl is the day you can feed me to Slade.”
You set the vinyl playing, letting the music roll out.
Oh yeah, I’ll tell you somethin’
I think you’ll understand
When I say that somethin’
You chimed in softly, swaying to the music. “I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand.”
“You dance?” Jason asked.
“Yeah. Don’t you?” You smiled lightly at him.
He held out his hand, an offer for you, and you took it. You two swayed together, his head sinking down onto your shoulder and a heavy sigh rushing out of him.
“I keep seeing it,” he whispered.
You raised a hand to play with the hair at the nape of his neck, the other intertwined with his.
“I keep falling, in my head,” he choked out. “Every time I look out the window I just see it all flashing by me, and I keep thinking, ‘This is it. I’m going to die. I wonder if anyone will even miss me.’ Isn’t that messed up?”
“It’s not your fault, Jay. What happened to you is not your fault. And I would care. I would care a lot if anything happened to you. When you...when Deathstroke...well, part of the reason Dick asked me to use my powers was because I was no good to anyone like that. I was so afraid that we were going to lose you. That I was going to lose you. Maybe it’s selfish of me, but I would have traded Rose in a heartbeat if it meant seeing you again.”
Jason pulled back so he could look at you, one hand raising to your cheek to caress your face lightly.
“Really? You mean that?”
“Yeah.”
It happened very slowly, very gradually, so that you almost didn’t notice it happening. He leaned towards you, and you towards him, just like it was gravity. Like there was something pulling you towards him that you couldn’t fight, and that you didn’t want to because it felt so natural. Then his lips were on yours, moving softly against your own, and you two had stopped dancing, frozen in time.
Eventually, he pulled away so you two could breathe, but then he was back again, kissing you like he couldn’t imagine doing anything else, like this was all there was in the world. You wished it was. You could do this forever.
Except you couldn’t do this forever, and he stopped kissing you.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that, I should have asked or-”
“Don’t be sorry. I...I liked it. Maybe we could do it again some time?”
Jason smiled at you. “I’d like that.”
“I have to go train with Rachel but...see you soon?”
Gosh, you sounded like such an idiot. ‘See you soon’? Seriously?
“Yeah. See you soon.”
You turned to head out the door, but he stopped you.
“Hey Y/N, you forgot something!”
You turned half towards him again, confused, and he grabbed your hand, pulling you back for just a second so he could kiss your cheek.
“Have fun training. Tell Rachel if she pulls any of her freaky Friday stuff on you I’ll kill her.”
“I’ll let her know.”
You were beaming as you walked out the door. If this was what things were going to be like you, you would be spending so much time training even Dick would be impressed. The score? Deathstroke:0, You:1.

Rose came by to hang out on Sunday. Joey went out with Dick and wouldn't be home for three days. I knew what that meant. Rose and I hadn't ever spent time together one-on-one. She got Joey's room while he was gone, so we'd have three days to hang out when she wasn't at school. I even made her breakfast when she got in. "Hey, Kid. We're not going anywhere until you eat something," I commanded. Rose chuckled and sat at the kitchen island while I finished cooking for myself. "What's so funny?"
"You're getting serious about this whole older brother thing, huh?" Rose teased. She ate her pancakes while I put mine on a plate. "That guy, Ken... You guys have a homoerotic friendship. You know that, right?"
That triggered my memories from Friday. I remembered Lixin's lips, tongue, and breath. My face grew so hot that tears welled up in my eyes. "Wait... Did you guys fu—?"
"No, and please shut up. You have to promise not to say a word to Joey if I tell you what happened. Rosie, please," I begged her. I had to tell somebody.
I thought Rose would be easier to talk to. She promised me she wouldn't tell anyone what I said, and I took a deep breath. "Rose, you're bisexual like Joey, right?" I asked.
"No, I'm a lesbian, but we can talk about that later," Rose replied. I chewed my lip.
"But you've dated—."
"That happens. I thought I liked guys at the time, but I realized I only dated them because I thought that was what I was supposed to do," Rose interrupted, "And I feel like with this line of questioning, you've got some big news for me."
"That's just it. I don't know. I don't know anything. I kissed Lixin Friday night before you guys showed up," I confessed, "But that doesn't mean I'm attracted to men, right? Sometimes when you're drunk, you do stuff like that... Right?"
"Yeah... But, I mean... Have you ever thought about it? Men, I mean?" Rose questioned.
I tried to think about it, but my phone rang. "Hold on," I whispered.
I answered the phone, and Lixin immediately started talking. "I'm so sorry I left without saying anything. I hope you're not thinking I'm avoiding you because we kiss—."
"I didn't think that. I don't think that. Lixin, I thought you were just hungover like I was," I replied, "Listen, Lixin, I've never done anything like that..."
"Oh... So, it wasn't—. You didn't—."
Rose stared at me, and I remembered she could hear me talking, so I went into my room and shut the door. "No, I—. The thing is, I've never felt what I felt before... Is it gonna mess up our friendship if we still hang out while I'm figuring out what that means for me?" I asked.
Lixin let out a breath. "You still wanna hang out? You're not just—."
"Trust me, if I didn't wanna hang with you, I'd tell you. I'd let you know if I didn't wanna be friends anymore. Besides, you were gonna show me what a pommel horse is, and I can't miss out on that," I interrupted.
Lixin chuckled. It wasn't a lighthearted laugh, though. It was the kind of laugh people gave when they'd been through a frightening experience. "Good... Um, I'm gonna be upfront, though. I've been attracted to you since we met... But I would never pressure you—. Did I pressure—."
"You didn't pressure me into doing anything I didn't wanna do... I wanted to kiss you... Lixin, I gotta go. My sister's waiting on me. I'm supposed to take her somewhere after breakfast."
"Yeah, l gotta go too... Have fun," Lixin replied and hung up.
I groaned and left my room. "Grant, I hope you don't take this wrong," Rose paused, "I think that kiss was inevitable... I think you're into guys."
"Please don't tell anyone yet. I don't know—. Rose, I've never even thought of men in that way before him. I'm all messed up about it," I replied.
Rose opened her arms. "Oh, no thanks—." She shook her head and made a noise with her fingers against her palms. I walked into a hug, and it was painfully uncomfortable, but she didn't let go.
"Hug me back, or we can stand like this all day," Rose commanded. I hugged her, and a wave of emotions washed over me.
"Fuck," I breathed as tears fell from my eyes and landed on her head. "Why am I so scared?" I couldn't let go of her because I didn't want her to see how messed up I was. I was starting to realize I didn't know anything about myself.
Rose patted me on the back until I let go and turned my back to her. "I was scared too... But it'll pass. Once you figure things out, you can start moving forward, and who knows, something beautiful could happen. Maybe you are gay... Or bisexual... Or whatever, but it doesn't mean you can't be Grant anymore. You'll actually be a more authentic version of yourself," Rose reassured me, "Besides, maybe you'll stop pressuring yourself to be so macho all the time... Because I don't think that's you."
"That's the thing... How do I know what's me and what isn't? I didn't even know I didn't like women, Rose. What else don't I know?" I questioned as I wiped tears from my eyes. I was so ashamed. I wondered what Slade would've said if he could see me crying like that. I wondered if he'd chastise me as he did when I was a child.
I watched people die, and I'd killed people, but none of those things broke me the way this kiss did. I couldn't even move myself to say the word. I could say it any other way, but I wasn't ready to say I was gay. I felt like a coward. I was afraid to face myself.
"You've got your whole life to figure that out," Rose smiled as she punched my arm. "Hey, Grant... Thanks for trusting me. I know you feel like we can't be close, but it means a lot to me that you—."
"We couldn't be a family without you. Slade made a lot of fucked up mistakes, but you were never one of them... I know I suck at saying emotional shit, but I'm gonna tell you this," I paused. I turned to her so that she could look me in the face. "You're the best thing that could've happened to Joey and me. We love you. I love you."
Tears streamed down her cheeks. "I give you one fucking hug and a compliment, and suddenly you've got a heart. Jesus, Grant," Rose joked, "I love you too, dork... And don't forget you promised we'd do something fun today."
I nodded and grabbed the keys from the counter. "Wanna drive?" I asked. She nodded, and I threw her the keys. I meant every word of what I said. I wondered if she knew that. Hopefully, someday I'd be able to tell Joey everything I said to Rose.

Eddie was in the middle of filling Jason in on what had happened during the years he had been gone (during the years he had been dead), when Rose walked into his apartment, plopped down onto his lap, and planted a firm kiss against his lips. “Hey babe,” she said. “Who’s this?”
Eddie grinned and wrapped an arm around her waist. “This is Jason. My oldest friend. Jay, this is Rose, my girlfriend.”
Jason laughed and nodded at Rose. “Jason Todd,” he said. “Nice to meet you.”
Rose sent a lazy salute his way. “Rose Wilson. I have no idea if it’s nice to meet you yet.” She grinned at him.
Jason arched an eyebrow. “Wilson? As in Slade Wilson?”
Rose sneered. “Yeah, I’m his fucking kid. What does it matter? How do you even fucking know who Slade is?”
Jason raised his hands up. “Whoa,” he said. “No judgement here. I was just curious because I had no idea Slade had any kids after Joey.”
“How the fuck do you know Joey?!”
“I worked with the Teen Titans a couple of times. Joey always seemed like a nice guy and my brother and him were real close. That’s it, I promise.”
Rose’s confusion only grew at that explanation. “Who are you?”
Jason smirked. “I was the second Robin,” he explained. “You know, the one who died?”
At that, Rose turned to Eddie. “Babe, how the hell did you meet this guy again?”

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The man in front of Van is not Slade.
They know this, logically. He's not their Slade, at least. He looks like him, sounds like him and moves like him, but he's not. He may as well be a stranger, but every time they seem to settle in with the idea of that, they catch him watching them with something so familiar in his gaze that it all goes right out the window. It's been four days since he barged into the house, only to stop dead in his tracks and drop his helmet at the sight of Van standing in the middle of his bedroom. They were wrapped up in one of his sweaters, brushing their teeth and flipping through the early morning news. It took just a few minutes for them to realize something was amiss. As soon as this Slade mentioned his Van being dead, it all made sense. He hasn't said where exactly he's come from, an alternate timeline or simply the future, but Van's leaning towards the former. Why he doesn't want to tell them is beginning to eat at them, but it's not surprising he's being evasive.
It turns out a Slade is a Slade is Slade. He's currently drumming his fingers on the tabletop, one hand holding a beer mug as he tries incredibly hard not to look at them. Van stirs the straw in their rum and sighs, reaching for a cigarette. “So, how'd I do it?” they finally ask, flicking the lighter.
“Do what?” he asks, brow furrowing.  “You said your Van is dead,” they say, “and we both know there's only one way and only one reason why that is.”
“Actually...there's more than one,” he says. Van blinks as he continues. “My Joey is dead, and Rose hasn't been around in ages. I was...not around, either. Ignored a phone call, came back to find the house tore up, a message scrawled on the wall...” “That sounds exactly like when Joey got kidnapped,” Van says.
“It was eerily similar, yes,” he says. He takes a swig of beer. “You and Joey got along, and Joey used to come over for 'surprise' visits if I was going to be gone for too long. Because I got him killed, he wasn't. Because Rose hates me, she wasn't. And I...”
Slade trails off, turning his gaze and lowering his head a little. Van taps ash into the ash tray and takes a sip of their rum.  “The fact that it wasn't an ambien and benzo cocktail that did me in is the most unrealistic thing you've said so far. But you'd find a way to blame yourself in that scenario, too.”  Slade frowns.  “I'm glad you think it's funny,” he snarls. “Really, it's balm for the wound.”  “I'm not wrong, though,” Van says. “Admit it, you're surprised too.”  “I'm not going to admit to being surprised that you were murdered rather than death by suicide!” he snaps, voice raising and catching a few glances from the other bar patrons.  “Oh, well,” Van says, lacing the words with sarcasm, “excuse me for being unbothered by a different version of me dying! I never expected to live to see 21 in the first place, so you know, I'm not too worried.”  “I know,” Slade growls, “you never fucking were which is why you never listened to me.”  “Still don't, by the way.” They knock back the rest of their rum, and then suddenly start laughing. Slade blinks, confusion clear on his face as they speak again. “Do you realize we're sitting here having an argument about the most in character way for me to end up dead? Like, what kind of next level dumbassery is this?”  For a moment, Slade says and does nothing, seeming to freeze in his anger. Then it eases out of him, and his face softens. He snorts, raising his beer.  “At least it's on brand,” he says.
The almost-laugh is like hearing music, and it crashes down on Van just how empty the last few months have been. They weren't bereft with grief when Joey and Bill had come home to say that Slade was dead-- shot in the head with a Titan's arrow-- because they'd known that he had died before. They weren't around when it happened, but hell, he'd been in the process of faking his death when the two of them met and entered into a relationship. Van's response to the news had been to say “he'll be back”.  Technically, they were right.  Technically, they were also so, so wrong.  They'd been waiting for Slade to walk back through the door. For him to collapse onto the sofa, or the bed, or whatever surface he found Van occupying. They'd been waiting to hear the low groan he'd make in the back of his throat when he came home exceptionally tired, the only warning they ever got right before he passed out so his body could repair whatever damage he'd done to it.
They'd been waiting for so much, and instead they got a stranger wearing a familiar face that pulled a knife on them and demanded they stop playing tricks on him. To top it off, neither Joey nor Bill are answering their texts or calls. They didn't bother to elaborate on the situation, something in their gut is nagging at them to let this play out on its own.  Van sighs and leans back in their chair, staring up at the musty ceiling and willing the rum to work its way into their system quicker. Luck of the Irish, I guess...
If they think about it too long, all they can come back to is that it isn't fucking fair. Maybe it's selfish to disregard the Slade in front of them for being different, but they don't care. They want their Slade, the one they've been side-by-side with for six years, not the one they've only known for four days.
“Now that I think about it,” they say, looking back at him, “how long was your Van around? Here it's been six years.”
“Eight,” he says.  “Ooh, did y'all still meet in Florida? OH, did I still have my car?”  “Stop fishing,” he says, “but yes. And yes. I still have your car.”
“Excuse me for being curious,” they say. They pull out their wallet, tossing the money for the tab on the table before standing. He takes the hint, draining his beer and following them. He watches as they light another cigarette.  “You'd stopped smoking, though,” he says, idly.  “That sounds fake, too,” they say.  “Why would I lie about it?!” he asks, and Van sighs. He's so short tempered. Slade never had a very long fuse to begin with, but this?
They don't know what this is.  “Slade, jesus,” they sigh, “it was a fucking joke. You remember jokes? I do them professionally on the side? Often about your cranky old fucking ass?”  There's venom in the words, and Van has no idea where it came from. Slade feels it too and they both stop walking. The heavy silence between them wraps itself around their necks, threatening to choke them both until nothing remains.  “I'm- this is...” Slade runs a hand down his face, exhaustion tainting every movement.  “It's not fucking right,” Van says. “It's not your fault, even you don't know how you got here, but it's not fucking right. I'm the only one that didn't think you were dead, but more importantly, I'm the only one who even cared enough about you to think that you'd be back. Everyone else was almost relieved to say 'Slade's dead', because it meant they could wash their hands of you without feeling guilty. You push everyone away, constantly, and I'm the only fucking person that doesn't let you get away with it. I'm the only goddamn one that loves you enough to deal with it, and then you go and you fucking DIE on me because you can't leave Damian the fuck alone!”  It's all coming out at once. Van hadn't even realized it was bubbling over this much, and now the top of the pot has blown off to fly in Slade's direction.  They're just happy they can excuse it with the fact that it's not really him.  “I fucking hate you sometimes,” they say. They throw their cigarette at his feet. It bounces harmlessly before fizzling out. “I worked so hard to bring you and Joey together, not for you, but for him. Because I care about him, because I'm never going to and have never had a father and I could see it every time I looked at him how desperately he wanted a relationship with you. I worked so fucking hard to give him something I'm never going to have and then you go and you FUCK his FIANCE.”
Van reaches out and shoves him with as much force as they can muster. He steps back, and they don't look at him.  “Not only do you fuck her behind his back, and mine, but then you have the unmitigated gall to tell him to stop overreacting. You couldn't just be normal, you couldn't just sit him down like a goddamned adult and tell him she was spying on him, you had to play your fucking games. Everything is always a fucking game to you and I hate you for it. Worse, sometimes I think it's myself I should be hating, for being fucking stupid enough to always play into your bullshit because sometimes you smile at me and laugh at my jokes.”
They go to shove him again, their anger getting the better of them at the last second and instead they end up punching him in the chest. They bring a fist back and punch him again, and again, and again and for his part, he lets them.  “Then you just fucking die, because of course you do!” They're screaming, in public, and they don't care. “Why should you ever face the consequences of your own fucking bullshit, right? That's what you keep all of us around for! Acceptable causalities.” Slade says nothing. He doesn't even move.  It makes Van angrier.  “Say something!” They bang their fists against his chest.  He doesn't.  They don't have the energy to hit him again. He cups their face in his hand, a calloused thumb brushing against their cheek and it feels alien and familiar all at once.  “I'm sorry,” he says. “I...I never told you enough. I never told anyone enough but you're the only one it would have counted for.”  “Yeah well, I'm dead, remember?”  “So am I.”  God, what kind of fucked up irony.  Van finally looks up at him as they reflexively lean into his touch. The weighted silence is still there, it's grip loosened just enough to allow them both to breathe for a bit. Enough to breathe, not enough to think. If they were thinking, they would know what happens next isn't going to end well for either.  Then again, maybe they do know. Disregarding common sense to plunge headfirst into fleeting whims has always been one thing they have in common.  Slade presses his lips to Van's and they offer no resistance as he pulls them flush against him. There's a deep, ravenous hunger in his actions that they're all too eager to fill. It occurs to them that when he'd answered eight years in response to how long his relationship with his Van had been, he didn't mention how long it's been since his version of them had died.
Too long is their only guess.  Van doesn't take notice of how they get back to the house, but they know it's enough steps and enough time to pump the breaks. They also know they don't want too. They don't care now, they don't care that it's not their Slade. They don't care that this Slade seems so much more damaged, so much more raw than the one they had just a few short months ago.  All they care about is that it is some form of him. They care that he smells the same, that he moves the same, that his weight feels the same on top of them. He explores their body as if he's never seen it before, leaving a trail of marks in his wake. He scrapes his teeth against their skin, giving a notation here and there about the differences from the last time he'd seen his version of them.  His fingers trail over their pelvis, and they feel him grin.  “No hysto yet, huh?”  They let out an annoyed huff, digging their nails into his shoulder blade.  “That's what you're worried about?” they ask.  “You feel a lot better after, is all,” he says, gripping their thighs and nudging their legs apart. It doesn't take much work on his end for Van's mind to fade into static, but then again, it never did. He always knew how to get their ever-collapsing thoughts to settle into place, even if only for a few hours.  This time, they don't remember falling asleep. One moment they're awake, pressed into the mattress and near tears as hormones and emotions flood their system and the next they're waking up to the sun piercing in through the window. They find themself wrapped in his arms, snuggled into the crook of his neck and their first thought is no.
No, they don't want to be awake, and no they don't want time to move forward and no they do not want to deal with the situation they've created. They want to go back to sleep, and they want to go back to sleep with the knowledge that he's here and he's him and that nothing is wrong-- no matter how false the knowledge may be.
They can't.
They know they can't, but the desperate burning need for it is enough to bring tears to their eyes and for a moment they wonder what life would be like if the damn dog had never taken off that day so many years ago. They wonder where they'd be right now if they'd never had a reason to take notice of his presence in their building.
If wishes and buts...  Finally, reluctantly, they disentangle themself from his embrace. They pull his discarded shirt on and pick their cellphone out of their jacket. It's time to elaborate now, it's time to get some outside help. What good the help might be they have no idea, they just know they shouldn't be trying to handle this alone. Joey's phone goes straight to voice mail, and frustration begins bubbling in their gut as they listen to his greeting.  “Joey,” they choke out, padding across the living room and into the kitchen. “I don't know what's going on with you, or Bill, or Rose, but I need one of you to fucking call me back before I lose my goddamned mind. It's about your dad...it's about Slade. Something--” they pause to take in a breath, dragging their hand through their hair-- “something's going on and I need- I need one of you to please...help me.”  Van ends the call and tosses the phone onto the kitchen table. Joey not getting back to them is starting to get to them. Whether it was fate, or just luck, Van and Joey got along from the minute they met. They like to think if they'd met him under different circumstances they'd have still ended up friends. All these years and they've always tried not to drag Joey into any problems with Slade, but this is most definitely extenuating circumstances.  It worries them as well. Joey's been through a lot lately, and the longer they go without hearing from him, the more they worry he's relapsed.  “I can't deal with this,” they mumble. They decide to busy themself for the time being, and dig out the coffee maker. They shuffle around the kitchen, pulling out the grounds and the filters, and they get a nasty surprise when they pull out the pot and find they forgot to wash it the last time they used it.  Slade was always the one that double checked that. They blink away new tears as they scrub at it with more force than necessary.
They're leaning against the counter, watching the coffee drip into the pot when a pair of arms wrap around their waist to pull them close enough to nuzzle their hair. Before Van can react they hear a familiar, truly familiar exhausted groan in their ear.  “Next time I run off to get myself killed, I'll let you know beforehand,” Slade says.
He presses a kiss to the top of their head and reaches around them for a coffee mug, leaving them blinking like a dazed animal caught in a pair of headlights. Slade fills the cup and steps away, falling into a kitchen chair and frowning over his drink. He's staring at them with two eyes, and there's not a trace of his usual beard on his face. His hair hangs over his ears, the shaggy locks nearly touching his shoulders and looking nothing like the buzz cut that he—the other him has been sporting.  “What's wrong?” he asks. What's wrong?  What's wrong?
Oh... so many, many things.

Okay, sorry to bring this up again, but I’m back from the temple and instead of doing homework that’s due tonight, I’m going to be talking about this.
Sit down, it’s time for a brief history lesson on Cambodia, particularly from 1975-1979 during the era called the Khmer Rouge, and how that relates to a character named Sweet Lili, also known as Rose Wilson’s mother.
Now, just as a warning, if you’re triggered by mentions of genocide ( no outright depictions of what went on, just a mention of there being a genocide ), this isn’t the post for you!
Now, I got received an anon today that I’m going to mainly ignore by assuming that the person sent it in just because they were being overprotective of their friend. I deleted the anon, but if you’d like to read the whole message the anon sent me, feel free to DM me. However, the one thing that I cannot let slide is their sentence where they said: Vietnamese and Cambodian people are very closely related so Rose Wilson's mom could've easily been one or the other.
For one, since when was it okay to interchange the different kinds of Asian ethnicities just because they’re “closely related”? If somebody said “It doesn’t matter if they retconned Cassandra Cain’s ethnicity from Chinese to Korean because the countries are closely related”, people would rightfully lose their shit. Just because it’s Southeast Asian and not East Asian doesn’t mean you can say that, and, seriously, we’re having enough problems as it is to get people to take racism specifically focused on Asians seriously for anons to just say stuff like that as if it’s okay.
Second, I’m here to say that in the context of Lili’s original plotline ( in all honesty, I have no idea how they changed her backstory -- perhaps it could make sense she’s Hmong even though she’s living in Cambodia even though I doubt it if it’s within the same context ), Lili could not have been Vietnamese or Hmong ( because, fun fact, Hmong and Vietnamese are two different ethnicities ), but especially not Vietnamese.
In Deathstroke the Terminator (1991), volume 15, we finally get our first glimpse of Rose Wilson and of her mother, Lili. The mother is introduced to us by a flashback on Slade Wilson’s part, as shown below:
Tumblr media
For one, considering she’s a “local princess”, it means she’s more than likely Khmer. Secondly, this tells us another thing: that this rescue mission takes place during the era of the Khmer Rouge. For those of you not in the know, the Khmer Rouge was a genocide that happened between 1975-1979, led by Pol Pot against his fellow Cambodians because he felt like the country needed to be renewed. I’m not going to get into the gory details on what he did, however.
But Satan, you may ask, why does it matter if this is taking place during the Khmer Rouge? Couldn’t she still be Vietnamese or Hmong and technically be a local princess?
Well, she couldn’t be Hmong and be a local princess because the Hmong people originated from China ( although some did immigrate to Vietnam ), but she almost definitely could not have been Vietnamese. The reason being is that the Khmer Rouge hated the Viet Kong, who was in power of Vietnam during this time. Even before the Khmer Rouge took power, there was a power struggle between the Cambodian government and the Viet Kong, and while there’s a potential possibility that some Vietnamese people could have been living in Cambodia prior to the Khmer Rouge’s surge of power, I honestly doubt they would have survived when the Khmer Rouge surged into power.
Listen, if Rose Wilson and Lili have been retconned to being Hmong, then they’ve canonically been retconned into being Hmong, and if they actually casted a Hmong actress to play Rose Wilson in Titans s2, then I’m genuinely excited for that and, of course, more proper Asian representation.
However, it’s a definite fallacy to say that Lili could have been either Vietnamese or Cambodian because her backstory was pretty entangled with the politics of Cambodia and of the Khmer Rouge. If her backstory was isolated from the Khmer Rouge, then, yeah, I guess she could have been either Vietnamese or Cambodian, but, honestly, that’s just perpetuating the myth that Asian ethnicities are interchangeable, so let’s not.

Rachel and Rose: The Undercover Mission
Grab snacks! This is a long one. Thank you to @raventrigonsdaughter for giving me this prompt about Rachel Roth and Rose Wilson falling for each other and what their dads think of it! I hope you like it! If y’all have any other Titans themed asks. Send them my way! Anyways, enjoy!
“You know your job, right?” Dick questioned for what seemed like the millionth time.
“Keep an eye on the grad student. Make sure Deathstroke and ravager don’t take her and force her to engineer super weapons and shit.” Rachel grumbled rolling her eyes.
“Wow, you’ve really got this down, haven’t you?”
“I mean it hasn’t changed since the last 100 times you told me.” Rachel said as she fit her audio feed disguised as an earring into her ear. Dick pulled his car up to a frat house where he was dropping Rachel off for her undercover mission. Rachel could feel the bass of the loud music pumping through her feet.
“Remember no dru-”
“Drugs, alcohol, or hook ups! Got it! Don’t worry, Dad. Frat guys aren’t really my thing.”
Dick sighs then gives her a pat on her shoulder. “Alright. Just be careful.” Rachel starts to get out of the car as he speaks. “I’ll be monitoring from three blocks away. I’m a text away. Keep our grad student in sight. Don’t go into a room alone with anyone. Don’t accept a drink from anyone. And don’t-”
“Bye, Dad!” Rachel says shutting the door mid sentence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Dad, for the thousandth time I told you. I have my eyes on our target.” Rose says as she sips her drink from a red solo cup.
Rose looks across at Margaret Yang, the Grad Engineering student with a genius iq, playing beer pong with her friends. Drug her drink and take her to Slade. That’s the task. But waiting in this smelly frat house was like hell to Rose.
“Code names! Do I have to repeat myself? Also need I remind you about no drinking?” Slade says through her comm. Rose rolls her eyes and downs the rest of her drink.
“C’mon, this is the only thing making this experience bearable.”
“What’s important is not you comfort. It’s the mission. Have the package to me in ten minutes.”
“No problemo!” Rose says giving a middle finger and shutting off her comm.
She assessed the situation before her. What’s the issue isn’t  sneaking Margaret away from the party. It was separating her friends. As Rose levels her options, a dark haired beauty catches her eye.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What hit Rachel as she walked in wasn’t just the intense smell of cheap liquor and sweat, it was the wave of heightened emotions that the college kids were producing. Alcohol causes the mind to fluxalute on the emotional scale which does not help Rachel’s empathy.
However through the wave of confusing emotions, Rachel felt a sliver of focus on her. She looked for the source and her eyes landed on a white blonde girl about her age wearing an eyepatch.
A highschooler? She’s heard of local kids sneaking into college parties before. Normally their motive is to drink and party. But Rachel felt a wave of annoyance from this girl. Like she didn’t want to be here. Neither does Rachel but she at least was there on a mission. The girl? Was she there to appease her partying friends or could she be working for-
“Hey!”
Rachel jumps in surprise and instinctively punches towards the perpetrator. Her fist is caught by the blonde girl she spotted earlier.
“Whoa there! Just came to say “hi!”” The girl states with an enchanting deep voice. Which has Rachel mesmerized. “But I’m glad to see you can defend yourself if some sleeze sneaks up on you.”
Focus on the mission. Focus on the mission!, Rachel thought. Focus on the mission. Focus on her beautiful eye and how her eyepatch makes her look so damn intense and sexy! Rachel what are you thinking?
“Hello?” the girl says.
“What?” Rachel replies feeling like an idiot.
The girl just laughs. “I was asking who taught you self defense.”
“Oh um- Di-ad! My dad.” Rachel says her heart a flutter, why is she feeling like this?
“Cool mine too!”
“Wow! Your Dad sounds cool!”
“He’s not!” The girl says dark all of a sudden. Shit! I made things awkward! Rachel thought.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to-”
“Don’t sweat it. I mean he’s a good dad, but when he gets in mission mode, he’s very narrow visioned.” The girl says with a smile. That warm comforting smile.
“So he’s a military Dad.” Rachel questions.
“You could say that.” The girl answers with a smirk. She hands Rachel a solo cup.
“No, thank you! I don’t drink.” Rachel says nervously.
“Then why are you here?” The girl says taking a swig of her drink.
“You know… just meeting up with a couple of friends. They’re coming by later,” Rachel lies. “So what about you?”
The girl points over the Margaret Yang by the beer pong table. “I’m here to kidnap Miss Yang and deliver her to my father.” The girl says nonchalantly.
Rachel’s defenses modes were suddenly activated. This girl works for Deathstroke. She must be Ravager. But Rachel has to play dumb in order to conceal her identity and mission.
“What?” Rachel chuckles “That’s funny. You’re funny.”
Ravager smiles her charming smile. “No I’m serious. And you’re Rachel Roth. But your hero name is Raven.”
Rachel pales. Her jig is up.  But she mustn’t let on that she is nervous. “And I presume, you are Ravager.”
She bows mockingly, “The one and only! Besides my older brother. But you can call me, Rose.”
“Listen, Rose.” Rachel says squaring her chest and aiming her glare at her. “If we’re gonna get messy. Why don’t we take this outside?”
Rose snickers at her and takes another swig from her solo cup. “That sounds fun. But I’ll have to pass. One, if we were to fight one v one, you would most definitely win. And my ego is too fragile for that. Two, on the off chance that I win, then that ruins whatever chance I have of dating you.”
“What- Dating?” Rachel says furiously blushing. Wait no! “If you think you’re walking out of here with, Margaret-”
Rose laughs, “Calm your tits. I’m not going to kidnap her.”
Rachel smirks at her, “So, the daughter of deathstroke does have a moral code.”
“Well… I wouldn’t call it moral code so much as I want to take the piss out of my father. Besides I don’t want to do anything that upset a certain little bird.”
Rachel scoffs, “Hey! I’m a big bird!”
Rose doubles over in laughter. “You called yourself big bird!!! Hey where’s your friend, Elmo?”
Now Rachel blushes furiously but can’t help but laugh with her. Rose wraps her arm around Rachel. Rachel was surprised at first but quickly finds comfort in the sudden warmth on her right side.
“You win this mission, Big Bird! On one condition.” Rose says smiling evilly. Rachel quirks her eyebrow at her.

Dick paces by his parked car. He presses his comm mic in his ear.
“Rachel, this is Dick. What’s your status?...Rachel?” Dick growls in frustration.
She hasn’t picked up her comms in the last 15 minutes. Where could she- Dick’s thoughts are interrupted when hears a metallic slice of air behind him. He ducks out of the way as he narrowly avoids being decapitated by a broad sword being wielded by none other than Deathstroke.
“Deathstroke” Dick growled.
“Richard, your daughter will be punished!” Deathstroke presses. Holding his sword at the ready.
Now Dick boiled with anger. “If you or ravager lay a finger on Rachel.”
“Your little bird, stole my daughter and I want her back!” Deathstroke grounds taking another swing at Dick who narrowly blocks him and disarms him. Now they stand holding each other in a stalemate.
“Rachel does not kidnap people. If anything it’s your daughter who’s taken her! Where is she?”
“If I knew where she was why would I be interrogating you?”
Dick then looks at Deathstroke confused. “Wait so if neither of us know where they are and they couldn’t have kidnapped each other. Then what are they doing?”

Rachel screams as Rose guns the car on the highway. Rose shrieks with laughter.
“I’m in a stolen car. I can’t believe we stole a car!” Rachel exclaims.
“Oh yeah! Sorry if I offend your moral innocence!” Rose says smiling innocently at the demon in the passenger seat.
“No. You’re fine. I just find this rather thrilling.”
“Thrilling?” Rose asks playfully.
“Okay totally fucking awesome!” Rachel yells.
“Hell yeah!” Rose exclaims smiling at Rachel. She reaches and grasps one of the empaths hand while her other one steadies the wheel.
“I suggest we play a little game of hide and seek with our dads!” Rose says ruefully. “Question is where do you wanna go first, big bird?”
Rachel rolls her eyes at the nickname with a chuckle. “Disney world?”
“That’s all the way in Florida!” Rose sighs. “But anything for my princess!”
Rachel can’t contain her blushing anymore. “So, it’s a date?”
Rose squeezes the dark beauty’s hand, “Fuck yeah! It’s a date!”
