theology of gentle parenting
My mother believes tantrums are inherently sinful, wrong expressions of will. I cannot agree. Not least because Original Sin is an Augustinian notion, but also because I look at my son, losing his little mind because I denied him a fourth treat.
He has no concept of right and wrong. He knows only "want" and "don't have." He experiences disappointment, yet without the grownup capacity to rationalize and accept. He screamed because I took a bath too hot for his little body, and because he was tired and cranky.
Say it is sinful. Say he is doing wrong. Surely grace becomes so much more imperative? He has no concept of right and wrong. He knows only the strong emotions of the moment, and he is distracted in the next by his toys. Or we take a timeout and help him calm, teach him to soothe those emotions.
But why is it sinful? He has these Big Emotions and no words to put them in. Are not emotions from God? Is it sinful to feel disappointed? Or angry? The proverb says "be angry, and do not sin." Is not the anger accepted, then? Are we condemned for emotion?
I cannot accept that. I cannot believe in a God Who forms us a certain way and then damns us for acting as we're formed. I cannot accept such injustice. So I will show my son grace and gentleness. Is that not divine? And even if I am wrong, if it's sin after all, is not forgiveness, compassion, Love the essence of the Divine?

Sorry if you're already over 50, I ran out of room (you're welcome to leave your thoughts in the tags or replies!)
If you're younger than 10, get the fuck off Tumblr. People are saying swears on here!

[EDIT: It's OK to vent a bit about negative feelings in the comments/tags, but if you're gonna talk about killing yourself, do me a favour and fucking don't]

once again thinking about jason as duke’s robin. he’s ~4 years younger than jason, and that puts him at 8-12 during Jason’s time as robin. that’s prime time to get attached to your local kid vigilante before your own life goes downhill.
and if we try to keep duke’s meeting with bruce in zero year + duke’s age (so he can remember the meeting and hold that conversation with bruce), he has to be around 8. if he starts following batman through the news at that time because of the mess that just happened, the robin he sees is probably jason. I’ve literally connected the dots

I see a lot of posts about Danny seeing Jason and immediately thinking he’s a baby ghost and wanting to adopt him but what if it’s the other way around?
What if Jason sees Danny and is hit with oh my god that’s a baby, who left a baby unattended out on the street?? He needs help, gotta protect him, mine, yeah he’s mine now, I got u lil guy don’t worry
Meanwhile 15 yr old Danny is like um hi?? And promptly gets kidnapped. But he just lets it happen because he’s actually feeling the safest he’s ever felt in his life with this guy, and Danny’s core immediately recognizes Jason as parental figure and just relaxes Danny 100%
Jasons feeling like Danny is a helpless baby while Danny feels safe, protect, calm, safe, relax, and he just lets Jason take him home. Neither are really sure why or what is going on with them but they’re not gonna stop it.
I think it’s because Danny’s own parents kinda suck and any other ghost that he’s interacted with he’s had to fight in some capacity or has been spooked by them. Jason’s the only one who 1) wanted to parent him and 2) has good vibes. Danny’s usually waiting for fights to happen and he’s very stressed. Jason calms him down so much he probably falls asleep before they even get to Jason’s apartment, full trust that Jason will take care of him.
Meanwhile Jason never really connects with his pit side, but really wants to find some way to have a truce. Cue Danny, and both Jason and the Pit turn to protectiveness and so the rage becomes more protection and Jason yk, might be kinda lonely and wanting something to take care of. He was probably thinking about getting a cat and not a kid but he’s not complaining

Lil' comic of a scene from a fic I haven't gotten around to writing.
(basically Vi and Jinx have reconciled, Silco is alive, and Vi is begrudingly finding herself beginning to look up Silco as a mentor/father figure. She accompanies him on an errand run, one of which winds them up at the old cannery, and emotions bubble up biiig time 🥲)

Steve’s mom comes home unexpectedly, by herself, unannounced, one glorious day after the world is saved and Steve’s family are all around. They’re out, shouting and splashing in the pool when they see her and everyone gets quiet.
Julia Harrington sees the kitchen- plates stacked in the sink, bags of chips and the bowls of fruit Steve insists they each take at least something from everyday to ward off scurvy. The floor might be slightly sticky.
She sees her perfect dining room, the polished mahogany table strewn with dice and figures and maps.
She sees the living room, clearly slept in by more than one person. Her carefully installed conversation pit has been completely covered (too risky for Max to maneuver around in her wheelchair). Several other pieces of furniture have been moved or stored for the same reason, she’ll find.
She sees the group of people her son has allowed into her home. The Wheeler girl of course, and that other odd girl who neither she nor Richard had understood Steve’s infatuation with. Those unruly children he insisted on looking after. They’d assumed it was an attempt to win back the Wheeler girl by a misguided show of paternal talent- as though Steve would ever be driving his own children anywhere but home from the hospital.
And the boys, oh the boys. There was the oldest Byers boy, the first person Steve lost to. One she doesn’t know who looks like some misplaced hippie. And the one from the newspaper who may not be guilty of murder but is still certainly guilty of not belonging in her house.
She sees all of that while the rest of them seem to hold their collective breath. Steve was mid-chicken fight with Eddie on his shoulders, Will on Jonathon’s, when his mother approached the pool and everything froze, Eddie slipping quietly off and down into the shallow end as Steve turned. “Mom— ”
“Steven— ” A hint of the flavor of everything she’s about to say in the tone of her voice when she says her son’s name. Steve swims to the edge of the pool, it’s easy to forget how fast he can be in the water when he tries, hoists himself out and walks towards his mother hands out, placating. “Please can we just talk for one second?”
But Julia drops her bag, stares at Steve. Suddenly the ice is gone, the fury is gone, she gazes at Steve’s scars. Sees, for a moment at least, past what has been wrought upon her house to what has been wrought upon her son. “Oh what- what happened?”

refusing to be undone.
Atia Balba, niece to Julius Caesar, died only a year after his assassination, and was survived by her two children, Octavia the Younger and Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus, who she had named Gaius Octavius at birth. Both her son and daughter would outlive her by several years.

Character question! TWST is an isekai, right? What was Tia doing before she got zapped into the setting?
If TWST is not an isekai and I'm mistaken, just ignore me 😂
TWST IS AN ISEKAI SO YOU’RE RIGHT, DW. It’s pretty much baked in that the viewer makes up who the MC is (not everyone does, but, I do) 🩷 Sry it took a minute (WEEKS) to answer. I was drawing things. Sometimes I don’t think I articulate with words well enough to explain myself nor to retain attention. I did not proofread and the text got wonky so excuse that.
Now what was Tia doing before being forced into the setting 🪷
Tumblr media
Prior to being whisked into Twisted Wonderland, Tia was a normal person from New Orleans, yay! She lived with her grandmama (but she doesn’t like being called that, she ain’t OLD m’kay?) and older brother (Not appearing in the following images.)
There’s a bit more background but I’ll stick with the most recent and basic stuff.
At the end of her school year, Tia got accepted into some kind of once in a lifetime apprenticeship program, where she and 4 other selected people, will shadow a world-famous chef in New York City. During the summer, she’s been cooking, reading, and doing part-time jobs nonstop in excess-preparation.
Tumblr media
She was intending on transferring to a new school and live with her great aunt in NYC (grandmama’s sister), graduate, then get started in her career climbing up the ladder and eventually be able accomplish a long term dream of hers— opening her own restaurant.
Tumblr media
Though, obviously, Tia has issues with being so laser focused on her goal she tends to neglect everything else in life. Like, y’know. Having friends, having fun, literally doing ANYTHING outside of working. Let alone sort out her own feelings or heck, even consider if this is truly something she wants to do. She’s pretty much convinced herself into it, and for the past year in particular she’s been more engrossed than ever.
Either way, things were going swimmingly by her standards. Tia was just SO CLOSE to getting a foot in the door and everything was about to go right for her— Almost there, even. Two weeks until she flies to NYC to start her new life and really get her dreams started!!
Tumblr media
Well.
Till the black carraige showed up. Shit.

the way i can see either enki, ragnvaldr, or cahara taking up the role of girl's parent/guardian EXCEPT d'arce,,, like ive tried but i feel like throughout the entire dungeon crawling experience she is too out of it to like be a proper parent figure to the girl. not to say she wouldnt take her in if she found her and protect her, i feel like she would, because its funny seeing her take in le'garde's child without knowing it. but either way she'd be too stuck in her own head and her want to reach le'garde as soon as possible/revive him that she wouldnt be able to give her the proper parental love im sure girl yearns for.
ragnvaldr used to have a child, he probably sees his kid in her, and he takes her in not just as some child he found that hed take care of until they got out or until she died, hed see her as HIS child and would truly care about protecting her and not letting anything come her way. she'd feel like a way to make up for the fact that he could not protect his own child and im sure that one day when he realizes shes the child of the man who ruined his life and family, it'll be extra painful.
for cahara, hes already expecting a child on the way, and so whats one more child to pick up and take home too? enough of cahara dying in the dungeon after girl ascends to godhood, he gets his treasure and gets out of there with her. he can give her and his newborn child the best life he possibly could, and i feel like hed definitely raise her as his own child, so his newborn gets an older sister. shes part of his family now!
for enki, hed begrudgingly take her along with him on his path to enlightenment. at first hes not really fond of her, but eventually, realizes he cant just let her go after he gets what he wants! i mean, gods, thats a waste of an assistant, right? as much as he hates admitting it, hes found some sort of fulfillment and contentment in teaching her spells and seeing her do them decently as she follows him around, and nosramus definitely wouldnt let him just sacrifice her or something. so he keeps her. and shes his child now, even though he only says shes his assistant/student.
but for d'arce, as much as i WANT to give her a happy ending where she gets out of the dungeon and live her life with her three weed smoking girlfriends, i feel like that just wouldnt happen. and even if she does care for the girl and keep her safe, its not the maternal sort of way that the girl probably desperately seeks, even if not specifically from d'arce, but from anyone. d'arce cannot stop and think that perhaps it would be better if she and the girl turned around and left the dungeon when she finally gets to le'garde and sees his corpse lying there. no. she absolutely loses her mind. she has to get le'garde back, he had so much left to do and she trusted that he knew what he was doing. and besides, shes never been one for the children. with the work she does as a knight, be it a knight of rondon or a knight with le'garde's group, settling and finding a partner and even having kids felt like a distant reality. even with le'garde, hes always been out of reach for her and she knew that she couldnt have something like this. she's committed to this. because if she does back out, where would she go? she abandoned the knights of rondon and her family for the sake of the knights of the midnight sun and for the sake of le'garde. she cant go back home. she cant give girl the life she deserves outside the dungeon. she digs le'garde out of his grave and lies in it for the sake of everything she chose to leave the life she knew for.
tldr. d'arce i will not allow you to have a happy ending
