DC x DP Prompt

The wail isn't the only thing Danny can do with his voice.

He finds this out when he is hanging out on a date with his new friend soon-to-boyfriend Jason, and the cafe they're in gets fear-gassed.

Jason and everyone else in the cafe start to lose their shit and Danny doesn't know what to do. Most of his powers were locked away because Gramps wanted him to enjoy a normal-ish college life!

On the verge of tears, Danny remembers a time when Ellie was having a nightmare, and he found that singing to her soothed her.

And in a desperate attempt, Danny began to sing.

It was a soft soothing melody, so soft that realistic speaking, no one should have heard it. But the entirety of Gotham did.

In those few moments, the effects of the fear gas disappeared, and whatever anger, fear, helplessness, emptiness, loneliness, whatever negative emotion was being felt at that time dissipated as well.

For once, Gotham air didn't feel so heavy.

And Danny was sure he scored himself a second date.

Further notes on Ben and Danny's relationship:

Given that both are poly and rather touchy-feely in their friendship, the idea of dating each other has come up — and subsequently dropped on mutual agreement. Danny is unsure if he can date three people at once (the other two being Tucker and Sam). Ben, meanwhile, wants to avoid risking one of the best relationships he currently has.

There is a strain on their friendship in that Ben is such a public figure and that, if ever their worlds were to merge, Danny would surely be sniffed out. The solution they’ve come to for this is that Ben’s identity must be kept a close guarded secret in Danny’s dimension (going by Tenspeed when working in the area). It is rare for Danny to traverse to Ben’s dimension, as he is a far more local entity, but on the off chance that he does visit he keeps to the identity of Phantom save for when behind closed doors.

One of the things that spurred the two to consistently interact is Ben’s discovery that ectoplasm acts as a wonderful way to keep the Omnitrix’s drain on his body from making him sick. As for why this is the case, he hasn’t a clue. Unrelatedly, Ben is capable of small scale magic after the consumption of ectoplasm and he has certain attributes that had before been believed exclusive to ghosts and halfas.

Such as the ability to get ecto tattoos, which require at least one other ghost-standin. Danny fulfilled that particular role, acting as the unofficial officiator for Ben and his primary partner, whom received matching tattoos of kits own.

A fun contrast between Ben and Danny comes in that Ben is seemingly more brazen and relaxed whereas Danny is awkward and shy; Danny is more confident in his closeness whereas Ben is constrained and cagey. Danny is explicit in his compassion, casually saying “I love you” and being generally huggy; Ben’s affections are almost always hidden under three layers of intrigue. The most that Ben initiates are high fives, maybe a pat on the shoulder. He does, however, reciprocate and even linger when physical affection is offered.

Last thing before I take a stab at composing graphs and the like for bleedin’ homework; one of the keys to their relationship is that they recognize a certain discomfort in each other. An aspect of this AU (A Story Told) is that Ben’s homelife is… not amazing. It’s something he doesn’t talk about nor mention but Ben’s life has been such that when he met Danny and came to understand how the Fenton’s view people like Phantom, he felt more than a little bit of displaced protectiveness. It is for this reason that Ben goes on to give Danny advice on secrecy, discretion, and obscurity, as Ben has (or had) several years of a hidden identity and more than enough time to reflect on what he’d done wrong.

Edit: Danny's love languages are physical touch in expression and quality time in reception; Ben's are gift-giving in expression and physical touch in reception.

Hey, Pinkroboticunicorn here! Decided to post my Danny Phantom AU here as well, so people can catch up with the story.

Note that this is an unfinished fanfiction that is for Tumblr, and a Prologue, more story to come, anyway here ya go!

Prologue: Danny Phantom.

Firstly Danny was stuck in phantom form permanently, but he learned how to alter his clothes from the usual jumpsuit he'd wear, so he could wear normal clothes, but anything he wore had an eerie after glow to it. It's whatever though. 

Valarie needed some space after learning what she did, she just couldn't face Danny until she was ready, but she came round in the end, and even embraced him, and his powers.

Danny's parents were shocked, but not surprised, and apologized for trying to hunt him down, and in solidarity of their son proudly dyed their own hair white.

Vlad, after finding out panicked big time that it might happen to him, so he abducted Danny and studied him for the short amount of time he had him, to make sure it wouldn't happen to him.

Sam, Dani, Tucker, and Jazz absolutely defended him and had their guard up around everyone, but let their guard down when people started to accept him for what he was, a phantom kid.

Dani also found a home with the Fentons as the youngest kid, and officially got adopted from Vlad, else Vlad would suffer the wrath of Maddie Fenton, which is something he didn't want to do, since then Dani has had happy times ahead with her new parents.

Of course during High School they discovered, and rediscovered themselves, Valarie after coming back from her much needed space, began to catch feelings for Danny again, but not just Danny Sam too, and vice versa, so they entered a Poly relationship in their Senior year of High School, and have been going strong ever since.

Dani is still discovering herself, but finds she crushes on boys, girls, and anyone in-between as a pan teen, but it's only crushes.

Now Tucker is a curious case, for the womanizer he was, it was merely a compensation for his real self, he was gay, but didn't want Danny or Sam to know at all, because he was afraid, he was bullied by his last friends for his interests, so he needed to make no one knew he wasn't straight, and only managed to come out officially during Senior Year, when he saw Danny's relationship, and knew he couldn't hold back any longer, he had to come out, and started to date Paul.

Paulina had come out as trans Sophomore year, before the Phantom incident, he changed his name to Paul and everything, and his friend group oschrisized him, and kicked him out, since then he kind of just drifted towards the "loser table" AKA Danny, Sam, Val, and Tucker, since then Paul was a bit of an awakening for Tucker, as the hottest "girl" in school became the hottest boy in School, and he protected him from everyone who would try to bully and mock him, and the like, and they just fell in love.

And when Tucker came out, Paul made his move, and they've been dating since then.

Danny and his friends have fought many villainous ghosts! Danny has also fought villainous ghosts with his family, and he's been doing it still as a now 18 year old, however sometimes you do gotta take a break from time to time, like maybe after graduation, and going through all those tests a nice relaxing cruise with your family?

How would u rewrite Sam?

Nah but seriously? There are 3 things i would change. 1 being her n tuck overlooked as much, 2 being used as a joke n stepping stone for danny, 3 I want her to really step into her characters history and development (cause redemption arcs are the bomb yes?), and 4 my personal headcanons of course.

1-the og trio

Ah yes, the three amigos, three peas in a pod, the three musketeers. Danny, Tucker, and Sam. They are my favorite characters to read about and personally? i ship them as poly, but thats the phanon trio. The canon trio aren't as defined as the phandom makes them out to be. Danny throughout the show is consistently a bamf, but he also kinda glances over his friends (just how many episodes had vital plot point being him taking advantage of his friends or having them take the downfall?) I would put Sam and Tucker in a much more prevalent role and really write out who they are as characters. We do of course have some already, from Tuck's Egyptian counterpart to Sam's dragon and plant forms, but we need to see them more as who they are. Just how many times can Tucker hack the government before he has to turn down plans cause he has a court hearing? How many protests can Sam drag the other two along to before they can quote the Miranda Rights by heart? What abandoned buildings do they explore outside of ghosty business (cause what Midwestern teen hasnt explored a corpse of a house)? Where do they dance to the latest underground music that matches dumpty humpty in feels? Give me their teenage shenanigans and who they are outside of ghosts.

2-the jokes

Sam is a really cool character to begin with; she's persistant and head strong, fights for her beliefs and friends, and she stands out in her town of Amity Park as one of the alt kids. Growing up she was an inspiration to kids like me who had nothing but the monotonous life that exists in Illinois, and it wasnt until i was older when i realized she was kinda made into a joke at some points. Namely being the ultra-recyclo-terian lifestyle in canon she has. Which is great, but at some point you gotta draw a line. She's been made a gimmick, something for people to laugh at cause she's basically vegan and that makes her different, more so than her outfits and pov from a money standpoint. Because the characters in the show brush her off, we pick up that being vegan is weird and not right but not left either. Its just, its setting a bad example for how we treat people who eat differently than the American standard. It dont matter what you eat at the end of the day. The writers kinda made it a part of her personality even though its not that big of a deal. Idk methinks that should be rewritten Heavily™️

3-who even Is Sam

Well, like i said earlier, she a headstrong, loyal to a fault, stubborn, goth character for better and for worse. Her character development was a good start. I liked how she was able to eventually reach a tenable toleration of the other characters like Paulina and Valerie (if im remembering correctly?). I liked how she was someone for kids to see and have in the back of their minds as someone to be like. However, parts of her character gets forgotten about too often; like she's jewish. Thats fucking cool as fuck. And when do they mention it? Offhandedly in a christmas episode, and the singular time we hear her grandmother say her nickname. Fuck it, I want her to celebrate Sukkot near halloween. I want to hear about the shenanigans that came with her bat mitzvah celebrations. What about Passover? What does she think of her relatives when they come over for The Good Food that comes with their feast after memoriam? Give me more jewish rep in general, but especially for Sam.

Aside from that, she needs more development in general. She was awesome to watch and even cooler when she ended up dating Danny at the end there, but she did Not receive nearly as much backlash for her choices as other did. Shes pretty hypocritical, and at the beginning thought herself much higher than the other characters. She did eventually cool down a bit but methinks she deserved a bit more arc there. Why didnt her and jazz have a verbal match in Girls Night Out, when Sam said Jazz didnt know how to handle ghosts? Why didnt her european conquest get brought up more after the fact, for teasing or for reasons why they shouldnt do X bad idea? Why was her narrative foil vilified for her femininity, and Sam's "not like the others" stereotype upheld for being better? She had faults, her character as written and her choices as played out. These faults werent emphasized nearly as much as they shoulda been.

4-personal headcannons

There are many things i like that the phandom itself has come up with, from the whole "ghosty weed parent means ghosty weed sam" to her eventual flower shop in amity park; dont forget her polycule of idiots, be that the trio or defect quartet. There are the big things like where she ends up in early adulthood, to smaller things like her favorite coffee being from a cat cafe she had exactly one (1) time, but there are things the phandom hasn't come up with, or at least not to my knowledge. (If you saw my character redesign, you might know whats coming)

Have you thought of punk Sam, instead of goth? What about wanderer Sam? What about a crustpunk trainhopping Sam, who rallies protestors in cities with corrupt police, who swigs bootheel moonshine she got from a rural grandma, who dances jigs in the Appalachias, who traveled when the ghosts finally calmed down a bit? Just imagine a Sam that has such a huge social media presence but is also a figurative ghost cause the average person cant travel like she does; there are communities out there who follow her and assumes she's a cryptid who's had it up to here with humanity (and these people don't even know about the Ghosts, the real ones).

I think she likes tattoos better than piercings cause a continuous steady burn is easier to sit through than a spike of metal. I think she despises kudzu (the plant) and sets it on fire if she sees a patch of it (controlled burning for local wildlife). I think she carries a small mossball from the early 2000s thats somehow still alive even tho shes forgotten and lost it twelve times over. I think, before she left for the rails, when her ma would drag her to dinner parties, she would talk the talk and walk the walk til the very end of the night, then she would call out the host on their latest exploitation and tell them the recordings she got at the party would be sold to the highest bidder in the morning. I think she'd bring home a stray kitten she found and name it fy, the yiddish word for fuck. I think she'd make hot vanilla instead of hot chocolate (fr tho if anyone needs a hot vanilla recipe i gotchu just hmu).

When interacting with teachers, she'd be the favorite until you got to history class; you'd leave that class with more understanding of how horrible america has been than you would ever think was possible in Illinois. The English department loves her and her takes on classics ("why read to kill a mockingbird and get a white savior complex when you could read the hate you give and get a much more realistic and accurate look at racism in modern america? Racism never died, so read the stuff you find more relatable. Also atticus Sucked Ass ™️").

Shes a morning person sure, but also a gym rat; shes there at 4am, running a mile and rowing for an hour while chugging orange juice and green supplements and youre in bed sleeping. She says hello to the entryway even if no ones there to hear it, she says not today to the hallway closet, she knocks twice on her window cause that's her routine when she gets home from school.

Theres so many small bits n bobs that i have for her i forget them right now. Overall shes an awesome character, just needs some touching ups. (Also i hope this is coherent for you, I've been at work since noon and got off just before midnight, sorry if it isnt ill edit in the morning :) )

DP - Perspective on Everlasting Trio

I'm normally pretty into threeway poly ships, especially ones with 2 guys & one girl depending on the characters involved, but I'll be totally honest; I'm not into Everlasting Trio. I think it's mostly because I don't get the vibe that Tucker's the type.

It's just that every signal I get from him says "straight boy." Like, I could see him possibly being up for a threeway polyamorous relationship with, say, 2 girls, but not with another guy.

I mean, Everlasting Trio is cute, in theory, but it just seems out of character for him specifically.

Edit: Okay, maybe I could see Everlasing Trio in the context of both Danny & Tucker dating Sam, but Danny & Tucker's relationship being platonic as it doesn't go against their characters. I find it more likely than Savant Par anyway.

Though, at the same time, I've never been a fan of Veggie Burger either. They just don't have the same chemistry that Danny & Sam does. Don't get me wrong, they do have chemistry! Just not the same kinda chemistry that Amethyst Ocean does. Sam & Tucker more have best friend chemistry.

However, I am willing to believe a story more if Everlasting Trio consists of only Amethyst Ocean & Veggie Burger while Danny & Tucker remain best friends who just so happen to date the same girl.

I can't help but imagine that Sam is the dom in this situation.

Like. he might have ghost powers but hes Just The Same Guy instead of putting him on a pedestal (and seeing them all try and help him hide it from the giw/people who don't know!!)

Okay so i've now decides ur my guide into all things Danny Phantom lmao, i just have one more question: //the ships// what even is the shipping culture here, i've seen basically NOTHING. Is just because they're all underage and the fandom is mostly grown (is that even true??) If so, that is one hell of a feat good job guys

This is actually really funny to me, because our shipping culture is, uh.  Really weird.  Even from the inside.  Like, apparently we inherited some extreme strangeness from the Early Phandom Days.  We have unique ship names for just about every conceivable pairing, and some that... should honestly not be conceived of.  This is the most complete list I’ve found.  Thankfully, most of these are jokes and do not have fics.  As far as I know.  (This isn’t a challenge, guys.)

But, yeah.  Shipping isn’t a huge part of our phandom culture overall.  It’s kinda just in the background.  I think this is partially because we have a high percentage of ace people, but IDK.  We put all our shipping energy into making communal OCs, I guess.

As far as phandom ages go, I think someone did a survey a year or two back, and most of the people who answered were teens.  I wish I could find the survey to show you, but I never reblogged it.  On the other hand, a lot of the more active members are in their twenties.  A lot of people on the rec list I sent you are adults.  I’m in my late twenties myself.  

If you value your sanity and don’t want to click on that link, I’ve got a list of the most prominent ones and associated drama below.

Danny/Sam aka Amethyst Ocean.  This is the canonical endgame ship.  Has both good points and bad points that have been extensively explored in fic.  The most likely one to show up in the background of gen fics.  Often paired with Valerie/Tucker (Hunter Silly).

Danny/Valerie aka Gray Ghost.  This is also a canon ship.  A dating catwoman situation, since Valerie hates and often fights Danny when he’s Phantom.  I think this and Amethyst Ocean had some drama back in the day, but I wasn’t there for that.  There’s still a little tiny drama because some people who ship this also bash Sam.  Also very popular.  Often paired with Sam/Tucker (Veggie Burger).

Danny/Paulina aka Shallow Sapphire or Pink Astronaut.  Which name gets used depends on both time and how the person feels about the ship.  Sort of canon?  But it’s the typical mean popular girl crush thing in canon.  People who like it usually flesh out Paulina a lot and add in a lot of Mexican or Spanish cultural stuff, depending on where they think Paulina is from, which is cool.  

Danny/Tucker aka Savant Par.  No idea why it’s called that.  Kind of rarer compared to the Amethyst Ocean and Gray Ghost, but there’s still a respectable number of fics.  

Danny/Dash aka Teddy Ghost.  Often gets some discourse when it comes up, because Dash is a bully in canon, but some people like it a lot.  I think I see art for it more often than Savant Par, but I don’t have stats.  

Danny/Wes aka Unidentified Flying Ship.  Yes, we ship Danny with our phandom conspiracy theorist OC.  Yes, it’s weirdly popular.  

Danny/Sam/Tucker aka Everlasting Trio.  We love our poly ships.  I have never seen even a little drama attached to this.  I think I’ve seen Valerie get added, sometimes, but I don’t think there’s a name for that.  

Maddie/Jack aka Brain Cookies aka Moronic Genius.  Again, canon, and is usually in the background of whatever else is going on.  Assume it’s there if Jack and Maddie are there.  

Maddie/Vlad aka Spurned Affection.  Because sometimes people like to see the bad guys win.  

Maddie/Vlad/Jack aka Family Breakfast.  Again, we love our poly ships.  The solution to all love triangles.

And then, sadly...  Because you can’t have fandom without sketchy ships...

Danny/Ghost Writer aka Iambic Prose.  I have mixed feelings about this one, because it’s usually a teenager and a theoretically immortal ghost of unclear age, but the people who write for it do it well.  

Danny and Vlad.  Aka Po/mpous P/ep.  (Backslashed because I don’t want tumblr’s algorithms to get a hold of it).  The fact that this exists, let alone that there are so many fics for it, bothers me.  Evidently caused great drama back when the phandom still had contact with Butch and the show was ongoing.  Continues to cause drama when it comes up because it’s just... gross.  People will list it in their DNIs.  

This isn’t even getting into platonic and parental ships, some of which are even bigger and more popular than the romantic ones.  I don’t think any of them are super active right now, but, like, if you’re going back in the archives, there’s a lot of contact.

Flynn Fenton

Fuck it. My version of Flynn Fenton.

I don’t have any art of him yet, because my brother lost the drawing tablet. But! I do have a way he can fit into my timeline.

How old is he? 19. He was born after Jack and Maddie got engaged, but before they got married. Jack and Maddie started dating about a month after Vlad’s accident.

How old were Jazz and Danny when he disappeared? Jazz was either two, almost three, or had just turned three. Maddie was either still pregnant with Danny or he was a newborn. If there’s anything Jazz remembers about Flynn, she tends to brush it off as him being an imaginary friend she had. Danny doesn’t remember anything because he’d either hadn’t been born yet or not even a year old yet.

How old was Flynn when he disappeared? Five or six. He’s three years older than Jazz, and Jazz is two years older than Danny, making him five years older than Danny.

How did he disappear? He still fell into the Ghost Zone via portal, but the one I’m having him fall through is a natural portal, not a man made portal. I’m wanting to give him powers, so either the portal was unstable which resulted with him gaining powers as he went through or I go with Fartman’s idea of him gaining powers as a side effect of being in the Ghost Zone for so long. Either way, it works with the rules I already had set for Ectoplasm.

What about Misery Vortex? She’s a spider centaur. Sort of. I’m having it so she can switch between having a spider body for legs, “human” legs, and a ghostly tail. I think me and @currentlylurking (at least I think it was Lurking) had mentioned the idea of her being that at basically the same time on the bigger/main server. 

Did she still kidnap Flynn? No. Either he gets pulled through by another ghost, she fights the ghost, and adopts him because she realizes how dangerous it is for a human child with ghost powers to live in the human world and/or the natural portal closed before she could return him to his parents.

Does she have a s/o? Yep! Pandora! No way I can see either of them being straight.

Will Flynn have a s/o? I’m not sure if I’ll actually have him be with the two (yes, two) I have in mind. He’s either bi or pan, and poly. The two I’m thinking of paring him with are Lacey Foley (Tucker’s older sister) and Sam’s older brother that I haven’t named yet. I wasn’t planning on having Danny, Sam, and Tucker date each other anyway.

Why don’t Jack and Maddie have photos of Flynn up around the house? Whenever someone saw a picture of him, it would basically prompt the person to ask what happened to him or if they were any closer to finding him. People asking them those questions hurt them too much, so about a year after Flynn disappeared they took down any photo they had of him, put them all in a box, and put the box in their room.

How do Jazz and Danny find out about him? I’m already planning on having Danny find out about someone named Flynn by finding a box with Flynn’s name on it while searching through his parents room for something, but not opening it. How they find out they have a brother named Flynn though is either because Danny lets curiosity get the better of him a while after finding the box and opens it, Jazz asks her parents how old she was when she stopped playing with her “imaginary friend Flynn” and they tell her the truth, or some time travel stuff happens which leads to a member of Team Phantom (probably Sam) ending up in Amity Park when Flynn was still alive and sees Flynn with the Fenton parents.

After Sam and Tucker cancel their plan to join Danny in a cross-country road trip, Jazz takes it upon herself to take him on their own trip.

“You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you go out on a date- unless you count Johnny, which I don’t.”

 “I’ve been on dates,” Jazz declared, voice firm. “I literally went on less than a week ago.”

 “Study dates don’t count.”

 “It wasn’t a study date.”

 Danny’s eyebrows furrowed together, thinking back on the past week. “The only reason you’ve gone out lately is to study for finals,” he insisted.

 Jazz scoffed. “You’re not the only one with secrets, Danny.”

 It took a moment, but Danny’s eyes practically bugged out of his skull. “You lied to Mom and Dad about where you were going. Oh my God, where were you?”

 A sigh escaped Jazz, and she muttered under her breath, “I knew I shouldn’t have said anything.” She took a deep breath and explained, “I went on a double date… of sorts… in that I had double the number of dates.”

 Slowly, the realization dawned on Danny, and his mouth fell open. “You’re kidding. You’re in a poly relationship? Who are they?”

 “You will never find out.”

Always said that this ship brings narcissism to a whole new level, (Doesn't stop it from being my otp) so how about one where Sam, Tucker and Jazz discover Danny and Phantom's relationship and freak out? Do what you like, but I think their basic reactions would be, Danny: It's not what it looks like! Phantom: It's exactly what it looks like. Tucker: Ha! Blackmail! Sam: Uhh... Jazz: What the heck?! No! Counseling! Both of you! Don't even think about getting out of this! I think it'd be funny.

Fenton had already reached his limit,and the three-way argument between him and their friends had devolved fromsimple questions like “why are you here” and “what the hell is going on” toaccusations and insults that had just enough truth to hurt.

Phantom might have joined in, but Jazzhad only just stopped mumbling about narcissist syndrome. Apparently, evendivided and in love with each other, neither Danny quite fit the symptoms, andthat lack of definition was driving Jazz nuts.

From the sounds of it, Vlad was farmore of a narcissist than him and Fenton could ever be, and Vlad had never eventhought about splitting himself.

But the sun had been settingwhen he kissed Fenton.

“Two months!” Sam echoed incredulously.“How did you manage to keep it secret for two months?”

“Gee, I don’t know,” Fenton said,sarcasm turning his voice dry, “it’s almost as if we haven’t been keeping amajor secret from the whole town for the past two years.”

“Yeah, but that’s everyone else,”Tucker objected. “We’re your friends! I didn’t even know you were…” Hehesitated before saying in a slightly shaky voice, “Gay?”

“Bi,” Fenton corrected.

“Poly,” Phantom tacked on.

Jazz groaned and dropped her head ontothe table. “They have a different sexuality…” Phantom edged her tea away fromher arms.

“Really?” Tucker asked, momentarily morecurious than upset. “When did you realize you liked guys–and, um, not guys–too?”

Fenton blushed and crossed his armsover his chest. He looked at the ground and refused to even glance at Phantom.Clearly he wasn’t going to answer, so Phantom, rolling his eyes, said,“Gregor.”

Sam coughed into her hand and Tucker’sjaw dropped.

Jazz lifted her head enough to demand,“Who the heck is Gregor?”

“Elliot,” Fenton corrected. “He, um,dated Sam for a while.”

“He also,” Phantom added, one corner ofhis lips twitching, “kissed us in the boy’s locker room. Twice.”

“He what?” Sam and Tuckershouted at the same time.

“It was that cheek thing Europeans do!”Fenton objected. “It wasn’t an actual kiss.”

“Still made your heart race, though,”Phantom said. “Still almost made my powers activate. Close enough to an actualkiss that it made us start questioning things.”

“Oh like what it’d be like to kiss yourself?” Sam demanded. “That’s a bit of a leap don’t you think?”

“Not really. Have you seen us?” Phantom braced his chin inhis hand, his elbow on the table, and flashed a grin at Fenton, half-liddinghis eyes. “We’re irresistible.”

Sam coughed and Tucker shifted back a step, his eyes wide.

“Oh my god,” Jazz moaned, once more dropping her head, “they’reflirting.”

A pink tint colored Fenton’s cheeks, but when his eyes metPhantom’s, the ghost winked. Fenton’s clenched jaw loosened and he stood upstraighter, his eyes widening as he caught onto Phantom’s plan. They had oncebeen the same person, after all. Their thoughts often moved along the samelines, so much so it almost seemed like they could still hear each other’sthoughts sometimes.

Jazz and Phantom were the only ones sitting at the table,Fenton having stood when Tucker and Sam had to keep them from looming over himand Phantom. The three had moved about the kitchen as Sam and Tucker kepttrying to stand closer to Fenton, as if proximity would help get their feelingsacross. But now that the two Dannys had a plan, Fenton shrugged past theirfriends and moved to stand by Phantom.

“We’re not just kissing,” he said. His eyes were narroweddefiantly as he glared at Tucker and Sam, but Phantom looked for and saw thetiniest twitch of his lips that hinted at a hidden smile. “And we’re notfooling around. We’re dating.”

“You can’t date your—“ Jazz’s sentence chocked off as shemade unhappy groaning noises.

“Why not?” Phantom asked. He leaned back in his chair, hisarm brushing against Fenton’s leg. “I love him.”

A horrified silence descended on the kitchen, and evenFenton’s leg twitched. They had said it to each other before, but not in frontof…anyone else. And the three hereknew about their shared past. Now that their relationship was becoming less ofa secret, however, Phantom had no intention of hiding again, so he pressed hisarm against Fenton’s leg. After a moment, Fenton pressed back.

“How does that even work?” Tucker groaned. “You guys mighthave split, but you’re still the same person.”

Jazz’s head popped up. “Yes!”

“I think that’s something we decide,” Fenton said, and Phantom smiled. That very question hadplagued Fenton for a while. Probably still did. “And we decided two months ago.”

Fenton’s hand was fisted at his side, temptingly close, soPhantom reached for it. At his cold touch, Fenton’s hand loosened, and Phantomintertwined their fingers. “It works,” he said, bringing the back of Fenton’shand to his lips, “like this.” He kissed Fenton’s hand and stared into Jazz’seyes and then into Tucker’s and Sam’s. They looked supremely uncomfortable.Good. He gave Fenton’s hand a slight squeeze as he lowered it.

“And this.” Fenton placed his other hand against Phantom’s temple,and Phantom allowed his head to be pulled towards Fenton’s chest. He smiled as feltFenton’s warm lips kiss the top of his head.

“It was working incredibly well right before you lot bargedin on us too,” Phantom added, smirking. “Incrediblywell.”

“Oh my god,” Jazz whispered, clutching her tea cup to herchest. “No.”

“How far have you two…”Sam trailed off.

Phantom arched an eyebrow. “Do you really want to know?”

“No!” Jazz shouted.

“Let’s just say,” Fenton said, and Phantom could imagine thevindictive smirk on his face, “that masturbating isn’t the same anymore.”

Tucker chocked and started coughing.

“Nope!” Jazz stood up, her chair screeching as it slidacross the floor. Still clutching her tea to her chest, she dashed out of theroom, raising her voice for one last, “Nope.”

Fenton squeezed Phantom’s hand, and the ghost felt his otherhalf’s chest hiccuping with suppressed laughter. He grinned too. One down. Phantomglanced at Sam and Tucker, noting Tucker’s wild eyes and Sam’s shakenexpression. They were still reacting to Fenton’s and Phantom’s relationship,too wound up in their shock and confusion to really listen, but that just madeit easier to spook them.

With that in mind, Phantom shifted in his seat so that hisknees bumped against Fenton’s and then tugged on his hand. Fenton hesitated amoment before he sat on Phantom’s lap. Phantom wrapped his arms around Fenton’swaist, the human Danny relaxed against his chest, and Phantom rested his chinon Fenton’s shoulder, close enough to his neck that kissing his boyfriend’s throatwas just a turn of the head away.

Phantom smiled at their friends. “I love Danny Fenton, andwe’ve been dating for two months. Any other questions?”
