Look, Bruce had had no plans to be a cryptid, he swore.
Vigilante? Yes. Dark abomination of the night? No. And he was, he was technically just a dude. A well trained (and maybe feral) human, but still just a human! Apparently not to the rest of Gotham, and he honestly should have nipped those rumors when they first started.
But like, it was also perfect for his secret identity. No one exactly expected an undead shadow-beast to have a secret identity after all. Or an undead shadow beast and some sort of ghost child to have ones, as the small child- which turned to small children- he’d taken in discovered.
Which, look, he had tried to get Dick (and later Barbara, and Jason, and Tim, and Steph, and by the time of Duke and Cass had given up) to stop. He had tried everything he could but no, nothing could stop them. Literally nothing that he had done could stop any of them, so he had trained them instead.
And the children were all little shits. At least by the fact that Nightwing had lead the newly-made Justice League right where he was perching, continuing to chitter and giggle near hysterically as he ducked behind him.
And somehow they were here to try and recruit him. Great.
This is probably an unpopular opinion but I'm actually fascinated by Akemi's relationship with her new husband. From when we meet her, we see how differently she, as a daughter is treated compared to her brother. He is, in the words of her father "the future lord so he can do what he wants". She's a pawn to his ambitions, a caged bird as she sees herself. She begs to at least marry the man she loves (at the time) and it almost works out. Until Mizu's revenge quest comes through as a whirlwind.
So she tries to rebuild what she had originally wanted. Akemi is clever, but much like the bird she is gifted ends up being shot down. She has to marry the man her father chose. But then she meets him and he is just as trapped in the cage of expectations as she is. He's expected to be a certain type of man the same way she's expected to be a certain type of woman. Those two birds in a gold cage, that may as well be the two of them. Will they bond over their similarities? Will they fall in love? Will he resent her cleverness or be putty in her hands? Or will he support her? What does greatness mean for Akemi and how will her greatness impact the world around them? I for one cannot wait to find out.

Kamala Khan gets a tv show and a major part in The Marvels and what does Marvel comics want to do to make her character continue to grow? Let's kill her in Amazing Spider-Man. Fucking hell.
Like I said before, while I get why ppl say the MCU is ruining comics, often times I think the comics are just bad on their own and it has nothing to do with the MCU being successful.
