I'm Xel and I live in a society! I think there's a solid chance you do also! So you may relate to the profoundly crappy thing that happened to me and that I once again need a community assist.

I lost a temporary job that was supposed to turn into a permanent job in June because no one there felt safe enough to retire. Only two of us in the apartment were under 50. One of the crew was over 70. Three were chronically ill/disabled. No one felt safe enough to leave in order for me to stay, so I was trained for basically 6 months for nothing.

I have survived on savings from that job until this point, but I'm at the point where I cannot pay rent. I'm looking into getting help from sources more local to me but the internet has always felt like people who cared about me more than the people I share DNA with, really.

Many of the social services that I was signed up for expired the day that I was supposed to be told that I would be a permanent hire, and since that didn't go down, now I have to start it all again from the beginning, and there are gaps in my security net.

I tell you all of that just to say that I am actually trying to do things, I'm not here to just beg and coast along on some sort of lavish lifestyle where I, uh. Keep living in this dodgy apartment with my cat.

I don't want to bore you with an itemized list, but like 2,000 US dollars would get me through September and October without being worried about it like every 3 minutes. My rent is 700 and change, if you would like to know that. So I'm looking for like September and October rent and money to renew my driver's license, pay a few utility bills, buy a bag of cat food, and refill my medications.

If you have the notion to toss help at an internet pal or the extended reblogged acquaintance of an Internet pal, as is more likely the case, probably, that would be super rad of you.

I'm an artist! You could get things with images on them from me! I sell buttons, prints, and commissioned illustrations if that's your thing. My commissions are going a bit slow as of late - I only recovered from being not really able to walk like 2 months ago, and so I'm doing a lot of catch up like everywhere else in my whole life and trying not to spend too much time at a desk since it aggravates the spine thing that was the problem in the first place.

To be honest, it would be a greater help to me to just receive some Aid rather than full-on commissions, but I completely understand feeling fishy about people getting something for nothing and also feeling bad for being a charity case on the internet, so I'm not opposed! If you want to chat about that, I have a commissions post on the side or top of my blog depending on where you're looking at this!

Ko-fi contains my buttons and is a good place to toss digital dead American presidents if that suits you. I will get hit by some PayPal fees in this process but, I'm willing to call that a call for help on the internet tax.

1. Picture!

discussing a picture saint posted a year and a half ago, there are some little points in it i was curious about, but mainly one:

- it’s not V or El as mentioned by saint, but they have light colored hair

- could be kiara mostly due to hair color but ehhhh unlikely

- could be jae-hyun but his natural hair color looks to be black so depends on the timing of the photo (also he is so suspicious to me dog)

- ren has some kind of big vendetta against said person due to all the x’s on the face

To be fair, it was his laptop you were using, and he hadn't expected you'd be doing something risky like this when he could so easily see what you were up to. This is my first ever tank, and it took a lot of self-convincing to actually decide to have an aquarium because there's a chronic fear of forgetting to feed or care for animals since I have ADHD. Thankfully, this tank is right next to my bed so object impermanence can't take this from me!!!

I get to wake up and turn on the light and see them all wake up from their own fishy sleep to get food, and I love it.

“Farza looked a bit dejected by the whole ordeal. I’ve not seen someone so cocksure take her on in some time.”

Gorem had just placed a piece of rather hot potato into his mouth and tried to say “wait, you were there?” It didn’t sound like that, but Liza had spent enough time trying to infer what he said with a mouth full of hot food to understand.

“Yes, of course. We’re keeping an eye on everything at the moment, and it would be odd to not have a few people making notes at the first debate.”

“I didn’t see you though?” Gorem said after swallowing his mouthful.

“That’s kind of the point,” she replied. Geoffrey shifted his weight and curled into a ball as Liza swapped which leg was dangled over the chair. “I’d be a pretty bad thief if you spotted me everywhere I went. You have to blend into the crowd.”

He shrugged. “He’s certainly the talk of the city this evening. He had a certain appeal about him,” Gorem admitted.

“Please don’t tell me you believed anything he said?” she asked pleadingly. “There wasn’t a word of truth to what he spouted.”

“No, I don’t. But he painted a good story that will get people talking.” The conversations were of intrigue as people left the council chamber. All gossip and hearsay by those who attended, no doubt distorted as word spread between people. “You think there’s any chance he’s on to something?”

Liza looked at him concerned. “You mean if there was something fishy going on? Surely you’d know better than me. You work there.”

The statement was correct, Gorem did indeed work for the government and rather close to the people in charge. He was, however, rather more oblivious to the daily goings on than you would expect.

In fact, he could recall a time when two coworkers were having an affair. He had stumbled into the stationary cupboard while looking for a bottle of ink for his stamps and found the pair, rather flustered, and chalked it up to it being a warm day. He put the pieces together when Randar had told him they were officially a couple some months later.

Very clean lines in this typeface! I love the parallel sweeps of the two diagonals. And it only has one potential reading: 尾岸 is Ogishi. Nice and neat.

尾 is read o or bi, and it means tail, end, or slope. It's also used as a counter for fish........ but only in a fishing/commercial context. Fish become 尾 bi once you pull them out of the water. Living fish, like most small animals, are counted with 匹 hiki. When I see whole fish at the supermarket, the counter depends on their shape: most are 本 hon (if they're about twice as long as they are wide), but flat ones like flounder are 枚 mai (same as sheets of paper, t-shirts, etc.).

(Once you start cutting them up to serve, there's a whole variety of different counters (as befits Japan's very fishy food culture), but if I'm ever gonna get that far into the weeds about food, it will be on my other blog.)

岸 is read kishi or gan, and it means bank or shore. You might be able to infer the topological meaning from the radicals: 山 means mountain, 厂 means cliff, and 干 means hang or dry.

Santiago de Compostella

I have decided to carry on with the blog for a few more days until we get home, I suppose we’re still having our adventure and it will help us remember what we did in years to come. But the stories are likely to be a bit more mundane now so can be skipped if you are bored. However, we’ve just had a cracking evening with our Camino family and that needs telling.

So, starting at this morning, we had a good night’s sleep and didn’t wake until nearly 8! However, we’re not sure if Jane has a few bed bug marks or it’s just heat rash. We’re a bit paranoid now. Check out was at 11, a real luxury when most albergues chuck you out at 8 if you’re not already gone by then.

There was a cafe just up the road so we went for breakfast then stopped at a pharmacy on the way back to get some stronger bite cream as I was discovering new bites (just mossies probably).

Our next stop was the airbnb so we asked the man on the reception desk of last night’s hostal if he could call us a taxi. It was a bit lazy as it was only just over 1 km away but it would mean we’d get very sweaty carrying the rucksacks! I’m glad we did as we’ve booked our ride to the airport on Friday with the same driver.

We dropped our bags but it was too early to check in so went back into town for a wander. The first place we found was the market housed in a lovely old complex. We found a nice souvenir shop where we bought a few bits. We then meandered for a while stopping for coffee in a small square where a man was busking. The streets of the old town are narrow with some very interesting shops.

Some of the streets near the cathedral are renown for their silversmith shops and we found one selling some really nice pieces which took my eye.

I had messaged Alex, to find out when she and the gang might be arriving so after the shopping we went back to the main square to wait for them all and spent a very happy time people watching. It was interesting seeing the mix of emotions as people entered the square, some crying and some obviously thinking ‘is that it?’

Laura also turned up to wait and eventually we saw them all, congratulated them, gave them big hugs, took their photos then left them to it to adjust and get their Compostellas with the promise of meeting later for food.

Jane and I were starving by then so went back to an Italian we had seen on the way in for their menu meal. I’m not sure how we’re going to adjust to 20 minute lunches when we spent the best part of 2 hours sat on a table outside people watching, eating and enjoying a couple of glasses of wine (it was just the two).

The cathedral didn’t have any services on so we got a proper look at what was inside. There were some interesting chapels and the altar piece is quite something. But the tranquility was spoilt by the noise of drilling coming from one of the side chapels.

It was time to get to the airbnb. It’s a very nice clean and airy two bed flat about 8 minutes from the cathedral. Jane’s got the double bedroom and I’m in bunks again, for the last time in a while I hope!

Alex messaged about meeting up so we all met in the main cathedral square along with some new friends they had met on the way.

There were going to be 11 for food so we went back to the same tapas bar as yesterday on the off chance they could fit us in, and as we were early we were lucky and they did after a short wait.

I thought it was a bit fishy when Ernest took charge of the ordering with so many of us there. We had some beautiful dishes, and lots of them, before he and Tim let on that they would be covering the bill. It was a really lovely evening, full of chatter and story telling, a wonderful way to finish the journey with our Camino family.

We finished the evening buying ice creams for everyone from a shop up the street. I have a new favourite of ‘cheesecake’.

After some big hugs we said goodbye and are now settling down quite late for us. Tomorrow is our day trip to Finisterre.
