my favorite thing about damian and nika becoming a couple in robin (2021) is that we find out damian’s basically his own version of a clingy, hopeless romantic

he’s out here telling everyone who’ll listen that nika is his girlfriend, meanwhile she comes back to the island after their one singular kiss and several days of no contact like:

“well…”

I wanted to talk about Damian’s sexuality.

That comes out weird, I know but this is prompted more so because I saw someone post about how he’s always been straight and op didn’t understand how people were so surprised when he started dating Nika. Then someone took a jab at Damijon + another person who said they didn’t understand the concept of Damian not understanding queerness.

I think that Damian doesn’t understand queerness but I’ll get into it toward the end of the post.

This will be put in two parts. One for Damian and how he feels about his sexuality and Damian’s internalized homophobia.

Let’s start with his canon love interest; Flatline. Flatline unlike his other attempted love interests was supposed to be taken seriously and didn’t suck. Compared to the others on this list, we should be rejoicing at Flatline.

Then this person used panels where it suggested that Damian had a sexual interest in a woman.

Almost every single person Damian has been interested in has been treated like a joke and not taken seriously. Some women are much too old for him and just awful picks.

Katana… why… stop please. Another example of them only doing it as a joke. This is so weird considering she’s much older.

Supergirl. Another joke. And much older.

Djinn… I don’t even know why…

Cassie Sandsmark… in a Earth, nice one Tom Taylor.

He has a couple more one off ones that weren’t taken seriously as well.

I know he got a cheek kiss from Emiko. He also dated Raven in an animation but I feel it was more a plot device. Also there are a lot of sexual jokes about Damian and I hate because he’s supposed to be ten by that time… there were some weird sexual impilcations when he teamed up with steph and I don’t know why writers do that instead of exploring the potential of their characters together and relationship…

Now let’s get into how Damian personally feels about his sexuality.

He jabs at romance and the concept of it a lot.

In Robin 2021 he also was very against romance but it was more as a way to sheild himself from his feelings. The only real confirmation that Damian is attracted to woman is Nika. So thank you, Nika. Anything other than that is just comphet to me at least.

This is also why he’s hc as Aro, Ace or Demi because he literally shows no interest in romance and the only times he does it feels like the writer has forgotten his personality.

TW: SEXUAL ASSAULT.

People don’t talk about that time Damian was kind of drugged/mind controlled and sexually assaulted… I’m not sure if people don’t perceive it that way but it seemed like SA to me.

She’s much older than him. He’s a ten year old. The way she’s speaking… her being naked. Damian telling her he doesn’t like it. Him not being in his right frame of mind… it reads this way to me.

Listen, I don’t understand how you can interpret Damian as any sexuality anyway when he’s so young. Only when he’s thirteen/fourteen can it truly be explored.

Although, Damian saying he won’t/can’t feel that way also proves my case.

He’s never really shown a whole bunch of interest in anyone.

Now for the internalized homophobia.

So, the arguement is “he’s too smart not to know about queer culture…” What? What part of not knowing about queer culture makes you stupid?

Damian grew up in a very controlled environment where he was taught how to survive, taught how to lead and how to feel. What part of his schedule would fit in learning about queerness?

Internalized homophobia is in no way a bad thing and personally, as others do as well, see it as another way to queer code because its something a lot of queer people experience. This doesn’t negate the attraction to woman by the way but that doesn’t mean Damian can’t be interpreted as some other type of queer.

There’s also people who like to negate and ignore this part of Damian’s character but… why? These moments are part of important comics with his character. Damian was young and didn’t know much about well, anything. If you’re not personally queer yourself then you have no real incentive to learn about queerness.

There’s nothing really wrong with it. Even if Damian used gay as more of an insult. I doubt he knew what being queer was outside of “When boy likes boy.”

Also, he makes some comments often that come off… not the best.

I still really don’t think its bad and can be interesting if explored.

This also coupled with his culture shock, probably adds to his confusion on certain cultures.

I mean, he doesn’t know all that much. He’s not exactly mister super genius when it comes to real life things as well.

He doesn’t know what laffy taffy is… come on.

All this evidence doesn’t even matter anyway because it’s confirmed that when he does go to pride that knows literally nothing about it and has to be EXPLAINED by a friend about how it came about and how it works but people get so upset about that.

I don’t know what Damian’s sexuality could possibly be but I just don’t personally think he knows either and that has nothing to do with Damijon or any ship, but with canon.

I wanted to go more indepth to this but yeah, internalized homophobia Damian is very close to me.

Confession, as a DC Comics Fan:

I don't like the shippings Damian Wayne had over the years. Not anymore, at least.

For awhile, I've been seeing a TON of Damian Wayne stuff related to ships on the internet. From big ones like Damirae or Damijon to smaller ships like Damian x Cassie or Damian x Djinn or Damian X Emiko. Then there was Damian and Flatline (or Nika) that became recently canon in the comic run, Lazarus Tournament (check it out, I think its cool). These ships had a fair share of fans and I've been one of them.

Until... I eventually grew out of it. Why?

Cause as I grew older, I'm getting a change of taste and a refreshed perspective of things, you know? So, with how much research I gather from Damian's character and these ships, opinions change. Some I lost likeness than I usually did. Some I got bored with overtime. Some, I just didn't care for as much. Lemme clarify, I still think some ships are likable than others, especially their dynamics with Damian as a character. But when I look between the characters he interacts with and their histories... It kinda makes me wonder... Does it really work? Are they worth it?

First, lemme start with the demon birds: Damirae. Damian x Raven. This was the first Damian Wayne shipping I discovered as a fan of the DC Animated Movie Universe. I watched JLVSTT (terrible title) to TT:JC to Apokolips War and ultimately... I was hooked. These characters could relate and they had such heartfelt and bittersweet tragic terms with the storyline. I cried when they shared their first AND final kiss (don't judge, I'm sensitive, 😭). This ship was my first and I fell in love with it! Plus, these characters have always been and will always BE my favorite in any DC storyline.

As I got older and learned more about them in other continuities, I grew a change of philosophy... I DON'T THINK IT WORKS. Hold on! Before Damirae fans explode! Hear me out. I see the appeal. They're similar in experience and personality, the idea of Damian, being the Grandson of the Demon's Head, dating a literal demon sounds cool (even if Rae wasn't originally a demon-). There's a lot in terms of age and direction with storylines I can see being a problem. Though, from how I see things and I say this from personal experience; similarities will not always be great in relationships. Their personalities just don't bounce each other off well for me. Additionally, I feel like some fanfics between this ship just don't do their characters justice. In a short question I've had with another user, I can say, I agree that some fans interpret this romance like a demon x angel dynamic. Like, Damian being into taking over the world while Raven is easily swayed on joining such pursuit. While the idea is... interesting, it does bug me a bit. It doesn't suit well with their characterization in my eyes. Plus, I feel like in other continuities, Raven, in character, would either,

1. Not like his personality.

2. Act as some sort of sympathetic sibling/mentor to him.

Honestly, number two sounds more fun and has potential in my eyes. 💜

Second, the one and only super sons; Damijon. Damian X Jon. These two are my ✨ world ✨. I've followed up with their comic storyline through YouTube (I have yet to snatch the comics-) and WOW they are just so, SO entertaining to watch! Jonathan Kent was super adorable (get it?)! Damian was a little troll but I love it! The movie was also spot on — the animation, the writing, the characters, the moments were just dynamite pure! I will love these two with a passion till the day I die! However, as much as I love these boys in all my heart and soul, I DO NOT ship them. It's cute but I just don't see them being anything more than friends, to be honest. 🦸

Third, the recent grave birds: Damiline. Damian X Flatline. OMG, I liked Flatline! I thought she was so cool! Not to mention, her power to absorb the abilities of warriors she's killed has so much potential. Sure, there were times when I thought moments of her were unnecessary or annoying, but she definitely caught my eye because she was just that fun! Her relationship with Damian was... interesting enough. I do feel like the romance was there because they were in a literal death tournament... if you know what I mean. It felt rushed. Plus, she kinda betrayed him later on. I'm surprised we didn't get a reaction from Damian to this too. Eventually, I looked into Flatline's solo issue in New Evolution. I feel like this issue in particular is where Flatline considers Damian as an afterthought. It was also this line that stood out the most for me — "We'll see how long that lasts". This could mean their relationship may one day end short. And I believe Flatline is just as aware of this too. BUT. I don't think this is a bad thing. It could allow opportunities for her to develop without always being in a romantic role. I like the character, I just don't see this working for too long. It feels like the writers were trying to throw a goth x goth romance for the sake of the plot. 💀

I hear Flatline's coming back, though! I'm excited to see her return!

Fourth, Damian X Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl). This originated from the DCeased storyline, where the world suffered a zombie-like apocalypse thanks to Cyborg bringing the Anti-Life Equation to Earth. Though... To me, she just seemed like another "Jonathan Kent" best friend, than anything else. Probably just me. If there were more interactions, maybe I'll reconsider. 🦸

Fifth, Damian X Djinn. Now, I thought this had potential. They did seem genuine with each other and had nice conversations. Though, if the pedophile part wasn't involved (Djinn being an immortal deity), I'd probably give it a chance. But I don't really ship it because of that fact. 😓 🧞‍♀️

And finally, Damian X Emiko Queen (Red Arrow). I don't see much appeal to this ship. They had similarities, sure, but... that's about it. Damian just had a brief "stalker-crush" and that was gone. So, not much to be said there. Like I mentioned before, if there were more interactions between them, maybe I'll consider. For now, it's not for me. 🏹

This will be where my confession comes to an end. These are my thoughts and opinions. You guys don't have to agree with me but that's just how I see these ships regarding Damian Wayne as a character. Arguments are welcome in the comments. I'm fascinated by these juicy conversations!

Newish Comics

Batman & Robin #7: what is going ON with Kirk Langstrom in this title? Okay I also loved the panel of Bruce and Damian actually spending time together, that was also good. Flatline seems interesting but i have literally no metric to read her by as this is the first thing I've seen her in.

Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #6: I'm going to miss this. I think it snuck up on me as a title, but it's just been a really well told story. Dian you badass! also hello Sandy cameo.

Outsiders #5: Nocturna returns??? Natalia, what ARE you doing here. Alongside this, this really is an interesting continued-retcon of Nocturna's whole situation, as is the range of characters in Natalia's club here. I can probably only name about half of them, but Klarion running rings around Luke was pretty funny.

I think I'm finally getting my head around why they called this comic Outsiders. Because, if this was the first ever comic run called Outsiders, it would be a good fit for the stories they're telling. The problem is, of course, that the Outsiders are a S pecific DC team, with a long and complicated history, and none of that is being acknowledged.

Speed Force #5: For a title that I thought started out with a lot of promise, this instead now feels...confused, I guess? It's still one of the only titles I'm reading that is keeping track of what's happening in multiple other titles. I'll wait for next month to make a full call on it, but it feels like some of the plotting went sideways in this rather than constructing a coherent, tight mini.

Klarion ALSO pops up in this title, this week. It's a good week for the Witch Boy.

The Warlord #43: Tara has been captured by the Therans and is currently chained to a post and being tortured (yes that is the explicit text). Travis is mounting an expedition to rescue her, and sends the Shamballan soldiers to sneak through the bowels of the city while he fights the Theran champion (who has four arms).

Never forget that Skartaris is a land that has all sorts of weird relics from the Ancient Atlanteans - like now-unused computers.

Travis rescues Tara, they fight a massive battle to defeat the Therans, Travis throws his blood drinking sword Hellfire into the lake where it is grasped by an ethereal arm that is 100% definitely not some form of the Lady of the Lake oh nooo.

Then Tara kisses Travis in front of the entire city of Shamballah, they basically announce they're married, but...oh no! Troops turn up and tell Travis that they've found the wreckage of Jennifer's boat, and Travis feels obliged to go look for his daughter!

Anyway have a really lovely picture of Tara - I enjoyed this one.

DamiOlive: A Kindred Dynamic.

⚔ Damian Wayne X Olive Grace ✝ (OC)

So… DamiOlive. Yeah. It sounds like just another shipping of self-inserts with a canon character, right? Essentially, yes. OCs tends to be self-inserts in some cases, whether they are Mary-sues or just a rip-off of the creator themselves, projecting onto a cartoon character they adore most. I don't take offense to non-completely original characters, no, no. Far from it. I get inspired by them CONSTANTLY when I make OCs of my own—like my Olive Grace displayed on the board above!

I also get inspired by the love of cartoon characters too. Damian Wayne, is a prime example. I LOVED this spoiled brat despite how controversial he was. My adoration for him came around on the DC: Animated Movie Universe, which is how I got onto DC to begin with. Since then, I have become INSPIRED by Damian's story. Sure, he was an asshole on numerous occasions, a troll, an entitled brat, arrogant and prideful, but most of all: A kid. He's a kid who struggles with his identity. I think this quote resonated with ME and possibly others too, if you're a detailed geek as I am, "You! Talia! Ra's! You're all in here! (...) But where am I?" I felt resonated with him here! He resembled me as my former 13 year-old self in the center of family problems, trying to figure, "What do I want to be when I grow up? What will be my job in the future? Will I make it? Will I make my family happy?" Plus! He has been given high expectations since he was born! Damian Wayne was gonna be the next leader of the League of Assassins, trained by Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul; his villainous mom and grandfather. He was raised to be a leader and a killer. When he's taken in by Batman/Bruce Wayne, the greatest detective, he learns between the lines, "Justice, not vengeance", that killing threats to help the world is only as bad as those threats too.

His growth has been my motivation and I think he, along with other characters got me to OC making to begin with. As a character creator I am. 😉 And I happened to find how fun it was!

Shoutout to @chrry-blvssom , as she helped me out while I was working on Olive Grace, especially toward her character design and major traits. So Chrry, if you're reading this, you are the most creative bestie in my heart. Thank you so much!! 💕 🙇 🙇 🙇

Olive Grace happened to be a… difficult case. Mostly because at the start, I hardly got much information on DC itself to construct ideas for her character. I shipped her with Damian, not just because I adored him, but because I felt it would be fun to explore, especially how he is as a character. Problem is, I struggled to figure out these issues: What would their dynamic be? How can it work?

I've seen Damian with other characters before and went through their dynamics. Notably, these two; Raven from the DC: Animated Movie Universe, which felt like a beautiful soulmate romance and Flatline from the Robin comic series, which felt like enemies-to-lovers, ripping-your-heart-out story. Literally. Nightstar doesn't count. For some odd reason they're paired even when they're… basically relatives? ⚠

I always try to make my shippings unique in its own form, and have traits that compliment the other:

Shadow the Hedgehog and Lunar Andhera the Wolf, are deeply intertwined mobians with their similar histories. The Ultimate Lifeform. The Moon Deity Reincarnated. They had responsibilities for their existence and lost what they loved as a price. They're equally mature, while one is cool-headed and motherly and the other is easy to retaliate and tempered. A sun/moon dynamic! 🐺 🌙 ☀ 🦔 💕

Sonic the Hedgehog and Solana An-Nur the Lion, are pure opposites; Sonic is laidback and hyper while Solana is utmost responsible and mature. The Fastest Thing Alive. The Strongest Warrior Existing. But they compliment each other through her encouragement to lighten up and the other to consider his responsibility as a hero. Together, they're adventurous Twin Flames that work proudly side by side. 🔥 🦁 🦔 🍃

Damian is intelligent, arrogant, entitled, a troll, aggressive but extremely loyal and kind at heart. He just needed the time to acknowledge his own good part of him to recognize this. He's also stern and all-out business oriented when a situation of importance is at hand. Heck! He puts the people he cares about first before himself! He did so for the Teen Titans in Rebirth! He did so for Dick Grayson! He did so for his father! Jonathan Kent! Even Tim, despite how much they don't get along! Maya too! But sadly, because it's DC, she hardly seems to exist anymore! ☠ RIP Maya Ducard.

All in all, he's an experienced force, despite his rather young age.

Then I thought: Opposites of nature, romantic dynamics by the ✨ INTERNET ✨ Brought to you as… Demons & Angels.

ANYWAYS. I've even looked at the 16 MBTI Personalities to see if I can forge the characters and how they behave; namely the ISFP + ENTJ. Damian is an ENTJ. ENTJs are known to be very confident, arrogant, critical, insensitive, logical and decisive, which fits Damian pretty well, as it is the "Commander", which he was groomed to become.

Olive Grace as an ISFP, better known as the "Artist" means she's very much the opposite of Damian; artistic, creative, principled, curious, carefree, considerate, sensitive, emotional and spontaneous, which fits how she grew up to be the person she is.

Their natures will clash at the beginning. Damian is an arrogant, entitled kid who thinks he's better than everyone else. Olive quickly becomes tense by his behavior and will leave him alone. Though. Olive is not afraid to speak her mind if Damian does happen to be in the wrong and will call him out for it. She's honest and quick to call him out but she is considerate of how she'll act because truly, she does want to befriend him. It's just difficult how to be THAT with his abrasive nature. But, thanks to her virtuous demeanor, she has the patience to try again and again with time. She's usually laid-back and observant, which helps whenever he needs to vent or explode in a fit of rage and/or annoyance from the blue, also allowing him to gain her trust as it goes on.

I thought over as I developed these two, how they have interesting parallels I managed to decipher as a pairing alone, while looking back on the character's stories separate;

Olive is a virtuous, principled, clever, daring, carefree soul who got into her own cruel world too young. All she wanted was to live her current life, experience the beauty of her home and encounter new experiences while mastering her dual-natured gifts. But she had to face the trauma her fallen-mother caused from the brink she was born to the rest of her life, which caused her holy-mother, her adopted-father, even her humanity. She was forced into this lonely responsibility of becoming her own hero who'd fight and defend from her own world destruction, fighting for her survival from greedy people who seek her power, being faced with constant mental torment of her insecurities and sins, while keeping herself in check from being corruptible and succumbing to sin while constantly feeling like an abomination to all around her and to herself. This drove her to a point, where she attempted to kill herself at roughly nine years old, in her fleet of guilt and depression. She lost so much so young. But in her story, she'd eventually learn that life was most beautiful if she didn't focus on the bad things in the world; She gained faith, friends, human experiences, love, forgiveness, happiness, a hope to finally sleep without worrying of the horrors she'd face alone.

Damian is an intelligent, arrogant, entitled, confident, lethal boy who was raised in a cycle of violence and grooming. He was raised to become the ultimate warrior. He would lead the League of Assassins side by side with his grandfather without question. He'd kill any threat to his family's cause. That is, until he met his father, Batman. He hated the ideal rules his father upheld. They were against what he learned in the league. He'd disobey orders, he'd be violent and utterly disrespectful, but in the end: He was a boy who sincerely wanted to prove himself. He was raised in a world of a kill or be killed mindset. He's determined and haste to make his family proud but he becomes insecure of his high expectations being given to him. Worse, he had a difficult sense of identity between the morals his family gave him. He never got to be his own person and he's plagued by this. When he took on the role of Robin, he found morals more beyond killing, he found friends, a family he can commit to, a purpose to fight, love, confidence, hope, experience being a kid, while all in all: An opportunity to be his own person. Not just a dictator or the sidekick, the demon or the bat: but a boy who redeemed himself.

They both grew up in ill-destined backgrounds but they fought against it all for their own bright futures. They're opposites but their parallels eventually connect them into a friendship of direct communication, teasing, sincerity, and fun to a romance of deep understanding with acceptance for each other and themselves.

WHEW! That took awhile! In fact, I don't understand why I didn't do this sooner, lmao! But. This was just all for fun and creativity, plus I love going into detail of ideas and concepts. Hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you think!

I have a criticism and before everything, I have to made clear that I don't hate this shipp, I just don't like it bu that doesn't mean that I don't want to see more development and aknowledge more things.

Nika betrayed Damian, she gave his heart to LDM and then this last one tried to kill him or something like that, but she never received any type of consequence because of that, people didn't doubt about her, Damian didn't doubt about her and that's the point I'm annoyed.

Damian is probably one of the batboys who has more trust issues, I could understand him being excited for a relationship or trying to make friends, but not even really mentioning about Flatline actions or even doubting about her is completely oc.

Not only that, even a normal person would be weird about and nlt really that trustful to that person.

My problem is that they could create more drama, tension and doubt about her and have a good characterization of Damian but they decide that everyone would trusted her just because she changes her mind about betraying him.

Is there any changes on Damian's feelings due to her actions? Does he feel hurt? Can Nika gain their trust again?

Every character that had hurt Damian in tbe past made his way to gain Damian's trust again and some of them didn't even have the completely trust, but he trusted a girl that actually betrayed him from nothing?

They could made an introspectation about his feelings about romance, they could make an instrospectation Nika's character but everything seems to be solved so easily.

And that's bland writting. Sure, the beach episode was cute, but the drama was really fake and cringy and that's a problem with the whole run.

Maybe it was the limitation and cancellation of the run but they could explored so much.

Like, when they were in Japan, they could have more adventures and even having another plot with some new more interesting villians, but they literally just went to find Nika and came back with some lacky dialogue.

The second arc was a set up for Shadow war and BvR and I can't avoid feeling dissapointed of it.

I liked the first arc, sure it has wrongs but at least we had more things, we had Ra's and Damian's interactions, we had Rose, Goliath and the rest of the siblings in one issue. We had a more positive spotlight with Talia (not perfect but at least a more positive set up to her) and good ideas.

The second arc was just dissapointed and that hurts me a lot to say because I was really excited.

Batman vs Robin #2 is out today, let's see where this story goes after the first issue failed to excite me.

Beware that I'm going to spoil the entire issue, so if you don't want to know what happens, don't read this post.

To start off, this issue did some things better than the first one and other things...not so much.

After Zatanna showed Bruce a place where they will find answers last issue he and Alfred land at the house of secrets:

(Not sure why there is an editor's note reminding us of something that literally happened at the end of the last issue though)

After a greeting from the caretaker of the house, Abel, it shows Bruce and Alfred how Damian got possessed, starting with a flashback to the final of the Lazarus Tournament arc in Robin:

What I liked about this was the moment Bruce tried to catch Damian to keep him from harm because we finally got something from Bruce we didn't see last issue: concern for Damian's wellbeing.

But otherwise, if you already read Robin (2021) there isn't much new information for the reader here and that's a problem with the entire issue. If you read Robin and World's Finest you already know most of the stuff Bruce learns in this.

Waid tries to justify the necessity for this flashback by explaining that Damian didn't tell Bruce everything that went down on the island because of...reasons, but it still feels a bit redundant. Anyway.

In the second room the house shows them what Mother Soul did after her previous demon was killed:

Waid ties the origins of the Lazarus Pits to the elixir Nezha's father used to bring back Nezha in World's Finest...which is fine I guess, just not something I feel we needed?

Once again, it's good that Bruce is shown to care about Damian more than last issue, but the reader already knows Bruce is dealing with Nezha. This mystery Bruce has to solve is no mystery at all for the reader. Which makes it a bit boring.

After that they meet another occupant of the house, Cynthia:

Honestly, I don't know enough about the Sandman universe to have much of an opinion on the characters in the house. But it is nice to see Bruce knowing immediately that she isn't really Talia because he knows her perfume. I take that as a hint that Waid isn't one of the writers who try to reduce Bruce's relationship with Talia to a short fling that had little meaning to Bruce.

So we find out why and how Damian opened the tomb and the answer is....stupidity? Like, come on, you would think after all the magical artifacts Damian had to steal during his year of blood shown in Robin: Son of Batman that he wouldn't just blindly follow a weird artifact pulling him towards something with so few concerns.

Also...erm...remember the last few issues of Robin? That showed us Flatline giving the heart she ripped out of Damian's chest in Robin #1 to Lord Deathman? Who gave it to Mother Soul who needed it for something related to Nezha, who came to her in a dream long ago according to her? Plus, we saw the scene of Damian arriving at the tomb at the end of the first World's Finest arc and at the end of Robin #17 and Damian didn't have this star shaped key. Some things are not adding up here.

Then again, hopefully that's intentional, since we learn that Damian had control over the house of secrets all along apparently? Does this mean he had control over Zatanna too and made her direct them there? Idk. Anyway, maybe this means that Bruce was given incorrect/incomplete information on purpose and there is more to Damian opening the tomb than we were shown here because that explanation was really disappointing.

Also, if Damian was really stupid enough to open the tomb because of reckless curiousity then...no, I don't think he's smart enough to outthink Batman. He didn't show much intelligence in his fight with Bruce in issue one either.

I always thought the Batman 666 suit was ugly and dumb and putting it on a 14 year old Damian didn't make it better. Putting Damian in a batsuit doesn't make him appear more threatening. It just makes me facepalm.

No, putting the adult sidekicks in front of him doesn't help either. Quite the opposite. This is a kid in an ugly Batman costume. With a bunch of older people serving as his Robins now apparently.

Can Waid please define the rules and limitations for Nezha's posession? How many people can Nezha posess at a time? What prevents him from posessing Batman or simply everyone on earth? What does the possession do and what does it not do? Like, earlier in the issue a posessed Damian didn't seem to approve of what they did to Black Alice:

So he still seems to have some compassion left in him. But he wants to kill Bruce? How does this work exactly? It's all too vague for my liking.

Anyway, the issue ends with the reveal that:

...this seemingly isn't Alfred at all, but Nezha instead, watching every step Bruce takes.

But if that is the case, why did he interfere when Damian tried to kill Bruce in the batcave? Did Nezha want Damian to fail for some reason?

I guess I'm genuinely intrigued to find out if all of these inconsistencies are itentional or not. But if it turns out that they weren't...well then this issue was a bit boring. At least if you read the stories this spun out of.

But it was nice to see Bruce care more about Damian here than in the previous issue, which had really kept me from getting invested in yet another Bruce vs Damian conflict. A story like this one simply doesn't work if the protagonist doesn't show care for the posessed person he's forced to fight against.

Thoughts On Robin #11

I find I always enjoy any scene/moment of Damian with his mother but now I actually enjoyed the parts with his grandfather as well. It was nice seeing Ra's take on Mother Soul - just wish it could have lasted a little longer, lol!

I mean, I get Ravager, Hawk and Flatline since he has seemed to bond with them even if only slightly. But is Respawn really considered Damian's "friend" at this point? Or did he just happen to be standing nearly? (Kind of like a photo bomb moment...)

That said, I like this group. It feels more natural than the Teen Titans group where Robin kind of seemed to just force himself into the middle and declare them his friends at random points. And even though it's only short, I generally liked them working together. I kind of want to see more of them, especially Hawk, Robin and Flatline.

I also do like Robin and Flatline. At least when the comic lets them just be natural. When they're being normal and casual, they're very sweet together and I do ship them. However whenever the comic does stuff like this:

It's very cringey. The tag team was cool and I like the idea of working together, but do they literally have to write the word "cute!" in it? Literally, even them staring at each other would be fine but that word just makes me roll my eyes a bit. Like it's really jamming the romance unnecessarily down your throat.

Still, like I said before, I like the three of them guys working together. Not just Robin and Flatline but Robin and Hawk are a nice team up too! Plus I think I just want to see Damian was more friends (especially now Superboy's not around that much...)

But like this is what I mean! I found this entire moment and lead up very sweet! I want more of this! I really do hope for more because I could see these two making a really nice couple! (*Fingers crossed*)

I especially loved Talia and Ra's reaction! XD Honestly these two little panels just made this my favourite issue! Haha!

And that ending... I mean we all knew it was gonna happen sooner or later somehow but I personally still wasn't expecting it! :D

So yeah... Good issue!

I tried to reread Robin #11 in hopes that I could forget about that kiss and just enjoy what they’re doing with Ra’s and Talia, but I just can’t keep it out of mind.

I’m very disappointed by this whole thing, Damian was never a character that showed any genuine interests in romance before (at least without it being ooc) and it really felt like Joshua was so proud of his OC (Flatline) that he tried to use her as much as possible, but ironically she ended being completely unnecessary to the story, you can literally erase her from Robin (2021) and it wouldn’t have effected the plot at all and during all her appearances she had absolutely no chemistry with Damian, the “build up” to that kiss was basically other characters constantly telling these two to “stop flirting!” every-time they’re standing within 6 feet from each other and a few teasing covers.

What really is making me be in a bad mood was that Damian had a long 15 years streak of not having DC shoving him in a bland and completely unnecessary romance, so it’s just sad to think that this streak is over and that he will no longer be a character that I can enjoy reading while not being worried about that trope being shoved in my face anymore, like aren’t all the millions of couples in the DC universe enough? Do we REALLY need Damian to join them too?

But what’s really disturbing me is how viciously the fandom is celebrating that kiss? Most of them don’t really care about Flatline either, but they’re just happy to have Damian “finally” be involved in a canon romance because they’re incapable of simply enjoying characters without seeing them dating someone else, it’s almost like they think all fictional characters must experience romance as a rite of passage or that is is a requirement for character development and not offense to anyone, but I find it creepy and I’m just tired of this mindset.

There is a vent in the last part (about pro ship:/+ wired shipping + block list) it's naturally negative so reading at your own risk.

So in the new Batman and Robin issue #7 Nika's sister making an appearance, got me thinking of other possibilities for sibling characters to come back.

Mostly I’m thinking about Respawn since he is Joshua Williamson's own character. And He made Respawn appeared in the last issue of Robin(2021), he also brought back Mara in that run too (just some appearance in the later issue).

And now Joshua Williamson is writing Batman and Robin, so naturally he can bring some characters back in this run. He had said in an interview that he might have figured out a way(try) to bring back Maya.

Throwback to 2022 of this old wip/art I made, is about what I think the emo teens of Lazarus squad dynamic would look like.

I imagine Nika and Respaw are irritated/tolerate with each other but would stay for Damian because Nika is Damian's girlfriend and they want to stick together. Meanwhile, Damian likes to include his half-brother in some fun activities (Respawn is acting reluctant bc of his own issues but he actually likes to have friends and feel include).

I haven’t finished this art bc I was going to add more wips (with other characters like Rose and Hawke) to make it a post. I didn't finish this art back then bc I was afraid Talia fans would be mad at me for drawing Respawn.

Trust me, I hate that Talia gets associated with Deathstroke like this, but I think Respawn is a confused/mistreated teen character and Damian (bless his heart and soul) still wants to be his brother regarding the whole mess. I will explain/talk more about my thoughts on Respawn as a character and his situations once I finish these drawings and get ready to post them.

Writing/typing words is harder than drawing for me personally. Drawing is like channeling my energy into a picture and forming an atmosphere and hopefully people will understand what thoughts and feelings I was trying to convey. Writing is using more brain powers to choose the correct and cohesive words, so people would not misunderstand what I'm talking about. Especially when English is not my first language, and even so I normally don't talk(write) much in my mother tongue either…(I'm not a quick thinker, it took me a longer time to think things through, writing literally exhausted me physically and mentally more than drawing.)

It doesn't mean I don't enjoy writing, it's just not my first choice to convey thoughts… but considering I can't draw everything I have in my mind and it takes even longer time to finish any art, I just need to write down things first from now on. Tumblr is the only place I can think of that has this longer text feature blog post and I'm more familiar with this platform format. So I will still be here posting my fan content.

I must say I will forever hate respawn x flatline as ship, cus I know who started this ship and their reasons behind it—Don’t let the new character develop naturally as the story goes, let’s put them in made-up weird situations first so I can prop up my own ship!😍 And get both of the new characters out of the way, since no one would defend them so I can fanon the hell out of them by making them look bad all around!🤞 (What if I stone you first hand🪨🪨💥)

And I will continue to dislike/against any shipping Damian's sibling to Nika. I simply don't like the unnecessary sibling conflict just for romance tropes! Things I want to happen in DC Comics concerning two of my favorite characters Jon Kent and Damian Wayne.

1. I want Colin and Damian to team up again. (I know Colin had returned to the DCU, so they need to team up.)

2. Jon and Colin to meet and possibly argue about who is Damian's best friend. (I think this would be funny, and Damian would just be like it's a competition because he can't pick between the two of them.)

3. Suren Darga from Robin Son of Batman to return. (I really like him and want to see him again. Are he, Maya, and Damian still friends or has he been co.pletely whipped from continuity?)

4. Jon and Damian to have a heart to heart about all the things they have gone through from Jon aging up to Alfred death. (I know it must be hard for Damian to come to terms with the fact his best friend is not only taller but also older than him now.)

5. Flatline's secret identity being revealed. (I mean can you really date someone if you don't know their secret identity. She knows Robins, so he should know hers.)

6. Also Flatine and Damian officially date. (I think this would be cute. Also can you imagine Batman meeting her would be approve?)

7. Batman meets Flatline. (I mean he can't judge his son for dating a cillian when he nearly married Catwoman.)

8. Jay meeting Damian as Damian and not Robin. (I don't know if Jay know Jon is friends with Damian Wayne or not, but they should meet outside of costume.)

9. Jon meets Flatline and is supportive like Damian was supportive of Jon. (I can just see Jon not even being that surprised.)

10. Bruce and Damian just talking and coming to an understanding. (I know They do love each other as father and son, and both have been through a lot. I don't want Damian to come back as Batman's Robin necessarily, but to just talk.)

11. Alfred to come back to life. (I know no ons really stays dead. They may get willed from continuity, but not many actually stay dead, so it stands to reason he will come back to life. If not we still have ghost Alfred.)

12. Jon to act more like Jon. (I mean come on if that whole 31st century business had gone down before Jon aged up I do not think Jon would have taken kindly to Damian's treatment given how he reacts to Talia attacking Damian. What happened to that Jon? I know he spent like seven years in space, but he is so very different.)

13. Jay to know about Jon's rapid aging if he doesn't already know. (I don't really know if Jay knows Jon literally not that long ago for everyone but Jon was a literal eleven year old. I wonder how he would take it.)

14. Damian having to face his old team. (I just want to see how that would go down.)

15. Bruce finding out what his son has been up to, and finding out his son technically died two more times. (I can see Bruce having a panic attack as he is just like son I did not go to apokolips for you to get yourself killed twice in a death tournament.)

Don’t be jealous because Damian is dating someone who likes the same manga as him. You’ll meet your special someone someday. Platonically or romantically.

DickTimWeek2021 Day 2

** Day 2: Time Loop | Jealousy | Stray AU

Welp. Time to break some hearts.

They’re laughing like assholes as they climb through Timmy’s penthouse windows. 

“Did you see that thug punch himself in the face?”

“That’s the right way to get out of an ass beating by the Batman.”

Tim, still in Red Robin, doesn’t even bother, just lets his knees buckle so he can slide down to the floor and laugh until tears are rolling down the dominio still plastered on his face.

He’s riding the concussion train with

Josephine and she’s not as bad as some of them are. 

Dick at least tosses the gloves and gauntlets before hauling Timmy’s bruised ass up off the floor, throwing the arm around his shoulders.

“C’mon, you butt. Really Timmy, just laying here in your suit? Alfred would be appalled.”

“S’why I don’t go to the Manor much anymore.”

“Ooh, I’m telling. You’re going to be in so much trouble,” as he gets Tim down the hallway to the bathroom.

“Y-You can’t! You’re the oldest! Dami’s supposed to be the tattle-tale!”

“Nu-uh. As the oldest, I can do whatever the hell I want.”

And does he tell on Timmy? You bet your ass he does.

It’s nice when Alfred can look at someone else in the family with extreme disappointment.

Tim comes by the Manor the day Alfred video chats him, shuffles down to the Cave behind the butler and absolutely sticks his tongue out at Dick’s smarmy grin.

His apartment is a literal mess and Dick can’t be bothered to do much more than flop on the overstuffed couch with a groan. 

Still in his uni from the day shift, he’s too bruised and battered and tired to even think of suiting up for the night. He’s been running himself ragged for two months, the day and night shifts blending together along with the usual bullshit of daily human life, and he desperately needs a night of terrible television, junk food, and snuggles.

Like he’d been reading the room, Timmy walks out of his bathroom, towel around his shoulder and hair just this side of damp.

“Hey, you made it home in one piece.” Tim’s long fingers in his hair literally pulls a noise out of Dick he can’t ever remember making.

“Yeah, I drove down because you looked like death warmed over when we talked last weekend. Luckily for you I went grocery shopping, did a few loads of your laundry, and cleaned up a little so you don’t have to worry about housework.”

“I love you. Have I told you that recently? Like, so, so much–” is muffled by the couch cushions, but he thinks Tim can probably still make it all out.

“Mmhm, I know,” and the gentle scratching against his scalp doesn’t stop, and Dick goes a little boneless with it. “I even brought my Roku so we can binge watch terrible television while you eat something more substantial than cereal. Alfred is going to be so proud of you.”

A pat to his head and Timmy is off, slinging his towel on the rack, turning on the shower again to make sure it’s nice and hot for all those bruises and contusions.

He’s no-nonsense about picking up his previous mentor and best friend, literally stripping him down and manhandling him in the shower after a low whistle at the span of blue/black across Dick’s chest and ribs, the scrapes across his back and shoulders. 

The first aid kit tackle box makes an appearance because Tim plans for literally everything ever, and Dick finds himself sitting on his sink wearily while his injuries are meticulously treated.

He knows he eats something super tasty with meat and vegetables, his belly full, before Tim pulls him down on the couch and lets Dick lay against his chest, between his legs to sleepily float while watching God-awful B-movies.

It’s the most relaxing weekend he’s had in a while.

Dami sneers at Tim, arms crossed over his chest, the expression on his face begging Tim to try to deny it.

The third Robin however, is looking over at Dick with horror that the big secret is finally out in the open.

“Th-that isn’t– it’s not–” Tim fumbles desperately, “he’s been my big brother forever, that’s it!”

“Tt. Grayson may be painfully oblivious, Drake, but the rest of us are detectives. Even Todd knows of your feelings and he rarely even comes to the Manor!”

Tim’s soul literally leaves his body.

Dick blinks, completely taken back, mouth open without anything coming out.

Damian raises his eyes skyward and prays for patients dealing with these two. “What I am saying,” he tries, he really is trying here, “is that you two must cease and desist this pointless–” vague hand wave– “pining for one another. It is getting to the point of absurdity. I demand you two either discuss your need for one another or take this ridiculous mooning elsewhere. The rooftops of Gotham is no place for this,” another hand wave, “utter nonsense.”

Tim’s mouth goes dry, subtly backing away to be closer to the Ducati’s waiting for tonight’s ride. He’s pretty sure he has enough energy left in his shaky knees to hop on one and be the fuck out of the Cave before his face literally bursts into flames.

But, well. Dick was Batman.

His strategic retreat is stomped into the ground by acrobatic leaps and a very well done joint lock to keep him from immediately taking off.

Dami scoffs at them on his way up the winding staircase. He stops Pennyworth on the way and turns the butler to return back into the Manor proper, citing those two needed time to figure themselves out.

After several weeks under deep cover, Nightwing wearily hacks into Titan’s Tower and makes his way through the maze of hallways until he hits a hidden panel. 

Tim is sleeping on his desk, only one empty coffee mug at his workstation. Even dead in his boots, Nightwing can take a second just to look, just to sigh, just to enjoy how much every inch of this boy is his.

He journeys down the hall, flips the bed covers up, carries his sleeping partner in and tucks the blankets around him, a quickly there kiss to the top of messy, too-long hair. A shower in Tim’s perch literally makes everything in life a little less awful and exhausting, not enough for him to do much more than crawl in bed against Tim’s warm body and snuggle up close.

He gets breakfast in bed and blue-violet eyes looking at him with fondness rather than awe, gets coffee flavored kisses and a slow-paced back rub that continues down to his thighs and calves and feet. Later, he gets a date night in a nice restaurant and a sweet San Fran club scene for dessert. He gets to let loose and hold Tim’s body against him, to play them both until the gazes are intense and the low key UST between them makes other people on the dance floor give them space.

Witty banter is a primary weapon against megalomaniacal bad guys of any flavor. For some former Robins, it’s an art form.

Over the years, they’ve cultivated their dip and distraction to bounce off one another like a well-oiled vigilante machine. 

It should have been a standard take-down because it’s not one of their more dangerous, deadly villains. It’s not one of the Rogue Gallery baddies. It’s not one of the mobster families, not one of the super powered groups come to call. It’s not someone with hordes of thugs and deadly science waiting to take them down.

It’s a simple B&E, just Nightwing talking it up to draw gunfire while Red Robin is creeping up from behind to get the last laugh.

It’s one of a thousand times they’ve done this. 

It’s a guaranteed win.

It’s the last hour of patrol before they get to go back to Red’s penthouse and snuggle together, eat and show, probably have some fantastic sex before passing out.

The .45 shell, however, cuts through the suit, between armored plates. 

Going after the running baddies is automatic, taking them down, zip ties, and viola. They’re ready for GCPD to pick-up, all kinds of gift-wrapped.

When N finally realizes Red isn’t with him, isn’t answering comms, isn’t waiting for him on the roof, he goes back inside. He hits up B for a ride in the big car in case he missed –

– anything.

The pool of blood around Red Robin is more than he can afford to lose, and Nightwing has been in the vigilante life for over twenty years, has been official with Red Robin for a little over two, has personal experience on how his Baby Bird can take a mostly-fatal beating and still keep moving. He’s seen Tim come close with the Clench, with horrifying injuries, with any of the many bad guys they fight holding him hostage.

Nightwing has seen him perform literal miracles.

And tells him so the entire time he’s got Red Robin up in his arms, carrying him through Gotham’s skyline to the waiting car, falling in with Red on his lap when the familiar hatch slides back, the tourniquet already applied before he even shot a grapple. The struggling pulse is enough of a concern to get it together.

And even if they all gather to strip off the suit, and now it’s on to get vitals back to an acceptable range. Even if the Bats cry overhead, even if the equipment is top notch in the Cave, even if Dick is still talking the whole time, and Alfred is keeping a cool head and Bruce is gripping a hand and Damian is standing at the ready to hand implements and Cass is biting her thumbnail while she hovers and Steph is moving from empty space to empty space around the gurney –

The consistent beep of the flatline cuts through it all.

The Titans make it for the service. 

Each of them make a point to hug Dick for as long as possible, holding on tightly.

Bruce is silent and stoic, a little boy again when he has to watch someone else he loves being lowered into the cold, unforgiving ground. Another Robin taking a piece of his heart to the afterlife. 

Steph is red-eyed, a ghost moving around to individual circles, listening to stories she might not have known. 

Cass grips the coffin with bruised knuckles, her whole body wound tight as a string ready to snap. She doesn’t move the entire service, is already convinced leaving him to his own devices caused this whole thing. She doesn’t blame the thugs or Dick or Bruce. She blames the boy that never understood how much it all means.

Duke Thomas is back in Gotham, taking leave from the Outsiders to be here for the family that took him in after the Joker drove his parents insane. He hovers in the doorway to welcome mourners, direct them toward the book to sign-in, talks about Tim Drake with regular humans and other metas in disguise, accepts condolences with his throat tight and his eyes watery. He makes sure Dick has a bottle of water after the first hour, pats Damian’s shoulder, grips Bruce’s arm, weaves an arm around Cassandra’s back to give her a squeeze, obediently looks at the old pictures of Tim on Steph’s photo roll when she’s overcome and has to see that smile again.

In the back, Jason Todd wears dark shades and a clean black suit. Roy Harper is beside him, a hand on the broad back to keep him grounded, to keep the Pit rage at bay. If anyone knows how far Tim and Jason had come over the years, it’s the former Red Arrow. If anyone knows how much agony Jason is in at this moment, at another fallen brother, another Robin gone, if anyone had held the Red Hood while he screamed and cried and broke the utter fuck down, it’s Roy Harper.

Damian Wayne hovers right by Grayson’s side, silently supporting his first Batman, his first brother. Whenever Dick’s eyes start going hazy, glazing over, Damian gently grips a wrist to bring him back, allows fingers to lace through his own and tolerates the tight squeeze that obviously assists in grounding the oldest Robin. 

(Later when the night is crowding grief-stricken Wayne Manor, Damian will be the one to open Grayson’s bedroom door, lift the covers to crawl in behind him, to wind both arms tightly. He will be the one to take the onslaught of grief, to be soaked in tears and snot, to listen to the broken, hoarse voice, to make soothing hums that ultimately mean nothing.)

Alfred Pennyworth quietly talks with the funeral director about the arrangements. Of course Master Timothy would want to be laid to rest with his parents, and the family appreciates all the support and ease of process as the deceased was an important part of the Wayne family. 

When he gets a phone call, he firmly verifies the name on the tombstone is Timothy Jackson Drake-Wayne Grayson.

Exactly four days after the service, the Flash is staring at him helplessly, gripping Nightwing’s arm tight, “please, please, Dick, don’t do this. You can’t think this is the answer!”

He can barely hear Wally with the absolute destruction going on around them, the machine they’d inadvertently stumbled upon (which is a lie, Nightwing had been looking for it and the Flash basically caught him red handed). 

“You know you aren’t going to be able to stop me.” Standing between the glowing portal and Wally, debris from overhead crashing down on them at intervals, Nightwing is at his peak stubborn, “no matter how fast you are.”

“You don’t understand what’s going to happen,” Wally yells desperately as the vacuum starts pulling at Nightwing’s other arm, pulling him into–

–the Speed Force.

“You don’t have the lightning, Dick, you won’t be able to get yourself out, and I won’t have any way of tracking you!”

The small smirk as the machine’s panel starts going haywire, lights blinking and readings off the charts, makes Wally’s heart clench hard in his chest, makes him try to dig in his heels, makes his stomach tremble.

“You have no idea how many times I’ve already done this, Wally. And I’ll do it as many times as it takes until I change everything.”

The pellet Nightwing palmed before the Flash grabbed his hand goes off the same time the machine hits the highest ratings and a low boom is followed up with an intense swirling suction, pulling the heroes closer to the portal’s surface.

The light grenade goes off without a hitch and the Flash has no choice but to let Nightwing go.

1. I feel like with Damian, he's the type of person that needs to have a long and strong friend ship with someone before he likes them and him and Flatline litterally just met???

2. It kinda feels like they made Flatline just for Damian to have a love interest. WHICH IS AWFUL. One of my biggest pet peeves in the whole world! The new Robin comics is literally her debut and so far the only comic she's in. And they already throw her into a thing with a very strongly develop character ??? Like h u h ???

3. I need to go on about this, she hasn't been developed yet or explored enough for us to care about who she ends up with !! If they would give her a spinoff or like a prequel then I might start caring but since she does not I do not care.
