the other beta version of mochi and limes post-timeskip reunion is that he actually does find her on his own. after years of taking witch-related missions, tracking down leads, investigating new developments and hints that came up, etc

where one day, wherever mochi is hiding at the time, pom becomes alert all of a sudden, and goes "...the m34th is here."

I need more adult fantasy with adult characters in their own self-discovery and coming-of-age journey, doing explorations of parts of life for the first time without the story pathologizing them or condescending to them.

#the reason i read so much ya still even as someone in my 30s is because i feel unwhole #and ya is so much kinder to that #where are the protagonists who lost their teenage years and 20s to skills training and family hardship #and are now just getting the opportunity to explore life?#where are the protagonists who spent their young adulthood putting a foundation of security under their feet #so they actually have the stability to go adventuring that everyone else takes for granted?

#Vandran has so many emotional problems. It's amazing.#Is he giving the best advice to Fjord? No. Do I see absolutely where he is coming from? Yes. Is this actually stuff Fjord needed? Also yes.#It gave Fjord new and exciting emotional problems but.... was Vandran wrong lmfao?#Fjord did very much want to learn and did greatly benefit from many of these things even as he had to unpack and unlearn parts of them.#He did very much benefit from being able to control whether and how other people saw him.#And while what Vandran taught him developed a struggle with vulnerability in Fjord—it did help Fjord a lot to learn to hold his guard.#It's a..... super complicated thing really.#It wasn't always good and Fjord did need to let go of parts of it. But it served Fjord at the time in a way he desperately needed.#(Like trying to stop someone from bleeding out and being less concerned about whether the wound will heal pretty. As long as it closes.)#(Aabria voice: Nature heals and sometimes it heals a little stupid but it does heal.)#As immensely flawed as these lessons were they enabled Fjord to find his footing and stability and build a foundational sense of himself.#That allowed him in turn to continue to grow in a way that let him let go of these things as well. Like outgrowing your coping mechanisms.#And I feel like this comic underscores and articulates all of that very clearly. #tag talk #many fifty year old trans women have the same problem as fifty year old cis women.#namely: you can't wear makeup like you did when you were twenty-five #like. idk I'm in the middle of processing ideas about fashion and appearance and makeup so I'm noticing it more.#and there's a very specific look on women who don't realize that they need to update their fashion as their body ages #because you do not look the same as you used to. your body has different physics than it used to #and you can't just fill wrinkles with foundation.#when the makeup doesn't match the rest of your face it just stands out.#you know those old women who end up with really jagged lipstick and super poorly done eyebrows?#because they just don't have the hand stability to do it neatly like they used to?#it's similar.#anyway thoughts about makeup and lipstick and how you can't just put on red lipstick and assume everyone will call you ma'am.#it's not a magic charm it's not a spell it's not the secret pass to everything.#I wish I could sit down some of the people I meet at work and talk about this shit but best I can do it be polite and kind and wish.
