it doesn't take harry long to figure out where hermione's gone; despite classes not starting until monday, harry knows that he's bound to find hermione tucked into a quiet corner of the library, already digging into readings for their coursework. he's not disappointed when he finds them doing just that, being able to spot their curls from halfway across the room, causing a wide smile spreading across his lips as he shakes his head fondly.  “ how did i know you'd be here? ”  he greets as he plops down next to them, brandishing a book between the two of them with a raise of his eyebrows.  “ been missing something? ”

The fact that she sums up being Black as cornrows and Motown offers great insight into why in Harry Potter she gave her only Irish character the name Seamus Finnegan, the most notable Black character Kingsley Shacklebolt and the only East Asian character Cho Chang. Part of me wants to engage with this line of thinking and explain why race and gender are structurally very different despite both being social constructs and then I remember that none of these people actually care about that shit.

Here's the thing: before being introduced to the Batfam and Bruce's adoptions problem, for me the Ultimate Children Adopter was Molly Weasley.

Never leave an unattended child in her area, otherwise they'll be adopted and receive a knitted sweater for Christmas.

Despite her lacks (like trusting Dumbledore's opinion too much and allowing Harry to get back to the Dursley every summer, favoring Ginny over her other children, etc.), her motherhenning is top tier and her hospitality is the best...

And may the Ancient have mercy on the soul of anyone who threatens her children, because she won't. (I still cackle like a mad creachure every time I remember that the only swear-bomb of the series was dropped by her while fighting Bellatrix! (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠))
