Hi! So since there's a k-drama fluff drought going on, I was just wondering if you ever watch Chinese dramas ever? Not the epic 60+ episode ones that drag on and on, but the shorter, fluffier, 20-30 episodes ones? If you're willing, and you've got some time, I have 3 recs for you. They're all on Viki, but I imagine you could find them elsewhere, if you don't use Viki.

There's a fantastic one going on right now called Love Between Fairy and Devil, and it's gorgeous. It has a really great "the grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" trope (I can't get enough of it!) and the romance is fluffy (they're basically ride or die for each other once they get going) and there's some drama and eye candy all around for whatever your taste may be. (The subtitles are a bit odd sometimes but the subbers are working so fast that I chalk it up to translation errors.)

There's also a great rom-com fantasy one from Taiwan called Lost Romance. A romance book editor gets literally thrown into the plot of one of the novels she's editing and she thinks she's the main character but she's actually the bitchy side character, so she takes over the plot. There's more to it, of course, with some family drama, the mystery of how she's in a book, but there's lots of romance (and holy hell the skinship! [if you decide to watch you'll know what episode I'm talking about 😉]) and it's a favorite of mine.

One of the fluffiest shows I've ever seen is called My Fated Boy. It's an older-woman-younger-man romance, like a noona romance (which I adore) and they're super cute together. They actually talk through their problems instead of having 3 episodes of miscommunication (like they do in k-dramas). It vaguely reminded me of Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food, but without her awful insufferable mother and much better plot-wise (actual happy ending not like the trash of PNWBMF). It's literally the fluffiest bit of fluff I've seen I cannot sell it enough to you.

Anyways, thanks for letting me ramble. Sometimes when I can't find an appropriately fluffy k-drama, I slide on over to c-dramas and it's so good.

Honestly whenever there is a k-drama fluff drought I find myself trying different j-dramas. That's probably because I came to k-dramas FROM c-dramas and really no other reason ;-)

I have watched two c-dramas (and a taiwanese drama) but they were historical/ historical fantasy and not entirely my style, so I'm excited that you recced a couple modern day ones I can check out!

I've been seeing all of the posts about Love Between Fairy and Devil but from the gifs it has a historical feel (anyone want to weigh in since y'all mostly know what i like??) Everyone seems SUPER into it!

hold up im reading more about the lionfish thing and this one island in Honduras has had such a huge problem with lionfish that the measures they have taken include

• getting special exemption from the Honduran government to allow divers access to harpoons and spears which are otherwise illegal in fishing

• public campaign to teach people how to prepare and eat lionfish (apparently they are very tasty once the poisonous spines are removed) (but watch out)

• holding lionfish combination hunting competition and cookout (reportedly they killed and cooked 1,700 in a day) (someone killed 60 of them with a rubber band spear gun???)

• most recently and apparently out of desperation, the divers in charge of culling the lionfish in the Roatan Marine Park just started. feeding the lionfish they killed to sharks. bc what else are you gonna do with it

• the sharks don’t seem to notice or be affected by the poison and begin hanging out with the divers

• the sharks then were seen hunting and killing the lionfish on their own

like this is nuts to me sorry. the sharks just had to be shown “hey this is food, did you know?? you can eat these!! here try one!!” we are possibly altering an entire foodchain bc we like feeding the big ocean wolves

Neopets discourse is always funny to me because whenever drama starts up 90% of the time it's over something that's just objectively really silly

For example, right now there's neo-billionaires threatening to quit the site over a rare item being released, which wouldn't be funny except the item in question is a tiny pea wearing a Santa hat

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.

you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.

you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.

don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.

if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.

you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:

how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!

god i wish i wouldn't have to explain the intricacies of the neopets economy to you guys to give the full context for this but. the new neopets team that took over from jumpstart pledged that they were going to curb the inflation of rare items, which is great because a lot of rare items are worth literally hundreds of millions of neopoints, they are unbuyable unless you've been playing actively for 20 years. they did this earlier with a site festival that included random loot boxes, some of which had Unbelievably Fucking Rare And Precious items worth 200 million neopoints apiece.

well.

today they have gone a step further. by releasing this year's trick-or-treat bags. and having the trick-or-treat bags be stuffed to the brim with unbelievably fucking rare stamps, weapons, paint brushes, defense magic, and other unbuyables. (all prohibitively expensive and in-high-demand types of items.)

jellyneo, the premier neopets website, has recorded prices of some items plummeting from 2,000,000 neopoints to 4,000 neopoints IN THE LAST THREE HOURS. this is when most people haven't even heard about the event or OPENED THEIR BAGS YET.

and of course. cherry on top. 20-year-old account holders are crytyping on the site events neoboard about how mean and cruel it is to make rare stamps part of the prize pool, because their entire identity hinges on being part of the neopian bourgeoisie, and they are having MELTDOWNS over their assets being devalued until they're part of the lowly proletariat.
