Vent post ahead that may change your view on me and that may sound dramatic (NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE, THIS IS JUST IN GENERAL) Mostly just to get out my feelings. I only ask that if you look, to be kind and understanding and patient. Also the tags are silly and id appreciate if you read em. id appreciate if you didnt ask me anything on it

I feel toxic sometimes because i can get so jealous i borderline gatekeep things and I always feel so bad because its never intentional but then I end up hating myself because I know its unhealthy and irrational but I cant help it, and I know im so lucky and have a lot in many senses of the word, but at times it feels like they can be taking everything, because when I like someone or something, they tend to matter a fuck-ton to me. Im sorry to anyone ive lashed out at a bit for them wanting what I have, I really am. Its not coming from a place of hostility, rather a place of trauma responses and hyperfixation that stem from my adhd and autism but like when I try something and it goes great, and then someone else is like "OOH thats awesome I wanna do that too" It feels almost like when Im finally happy or excited or proud to have something, someone comes and takes it. Usually Ill play it off as a joke, but in reality, its complete honesty that im trying to soften so I dont upset anyone, especially when its over fiction or a person, because I do NOT own them and I know that, but it bothers me when someone swoops in to do the exact same things or even one-up especially when its really soon after me, and since my self worth is already abysmal, it just makes me feel worse, like I should be lucky to have what I do to begin with, but I feel the need to hold it close to me and protect it so I dont lose things that make me really happy.

Recently Ive even started reverse gatekeeping in response to others, where ill just tell myself I cant or dont deserve to have anything special because I'm not, and only others can enjoy this. But thats why people making me ship content makes me so happy. Its dumb to get jealous over others selfshipping with a character I like. Its dumb to get upset over someone I know copying or taking heavy inspiration from one of my ideas. Its dumb to get possessive over someone else trying to befriend my new awesome friends or wife/wives. I rarely selfship anymore due to my reverse gatekeeping and instead serve the others who simp or enjoy content. I provide since I feel I cant take. It makes me happy and distracts me. But the moment someone else does something similar to what is my toxic coping mechanism for my toxic coping mechanism, it only hurts worse. Thats why sometimes, for example, I get a bit snappy when someone else provides gummybunny (that and also shipping jealousy sometimes). Thats why I get snappy when I make a friend someone else super cool and then another person comes in and wants to befriend them (No darken, this wasnt directed at you, its happened more than once with more than one person but I know how you tend to assume). I LOVE giving but I hate sharing, because all my life whenever I shared, I lost something.

Introduce a friend to a friend? They leave me behind for eachother. Let someone wear my fitbit because they wanted to feel "rich"? It got stolen. Give money to someone in a "rough spot" who promised to repay me somehow? Never saw them again. I was always so trusting and understanding, and I always made excuses for others. Always so naive and gullible. So much so, in fact, that in elementary I kept letting my bullies pretend to be my friends when they claimed they changed, and let them destroy any ounce of worth I had whatsoever. Things that make me happy I CHERISH because of all the things ive lost and all my experiences. Ive never been hit, not once, but the abuse all my life came emotionally and mentally, and I only recently realized through therapy. Now its hard to trust people in certain situations. Sorry for my probably hard to follow and melodramatic rant.

Some more stuff abt the ninja in the crime au!

none of them know about their elemental abilities and just assume that they're good with things that pertain to that element

garmadon took over the realm because wu disappeared and never got the chance to gather the ninja together, so the realm is ruled by lord garmadon and bad things just keep on happening, the next serpentine war, the great devour gets released again ect ect

and a few years pass by and garmadons reign still isn't letting up and the world continues to get more and more broken and beaten down. So they do what they have to to survive it. Then they do some more things they just felt like doing afterwards

Jay got started in crime by building and selling weapons to people made out of scraps from the junkyard, then he started building cars and became a pretty good get away driver. Eventually he got a bit too gung ho about winning races and hacked too close to the sun, bringing down a few gangs worth of anger on himself. Fleeing the junkyard to protect his parents, he went to ninjago city to start up new, hearing about an artifact retrieval job that seems promising. He's strong in tech and hacking and weak at stealing and fighting. He thinks his talent with tech and hacking is just from practice, although sometimes his experiments fry themselves and he just can't work out why that is yet.

Cole ran away from the Marty Oppenheimer school and got himself indebted with the chen crime family, and worked as a bodyguard for them to pay off his debt and got stuck in a magical contract with them that if he leaves them they'll go after his family, so he goes by a fake name (Rocky Dangerbuff) for this reason. He's been able to gather alot of info on the family by being their bodyguard for several years. But he's loyal to a fault, and wouldn't leave them without good enough reason. Eventually, it got to the point that they were asking him to do things he wasn't comfortable with (murder) and he escaped with the leaders daughter (who also didn't want to do a murder), and now he's on the run from them in ninjago city. He's strong at fighting and at grifting, weak at tech and hacking. When he was hiding out underground, he was really good at finding caves to hide in. Like unusually good at it. And freehand mountain climbing has always come very easy to him.

Zane is searching for his father, having half of his memories activated, so he knows about his father and that he is a nindroid, but not what the nin part stands for or that his father died. He has been traveling around all of ninjago searching for any info on his father, not caring who he hurts along the way in his search, and through that he's acquired alot of top secret information about the various groups, and has disturbed one such group (Borg industries) who have been persistently after him for his exstensive knowledge. Ninjago city is the last place they would search for him after he lead them in a trail far away from there, so he's hiding out right under their nose when he hears about a job to get an artifact that might help him find the next clue to his father. He's strong at planning and at info gathering, weak at grifting and fighting (hasn't activated his ninja programming yet). He thinks his comfortability with the cold has to do with him being a nindroid. Although he's never met another droid who can withstand negative 30 degree temperatures, come to think of it he's never met another droid like him at all.

Kai started grifting people a bit after his parents blacksmithing shop started to lose business, and he started really swindling people coming into town after garmadon took over to get enough money to get by. He kept from nya where he was getting most of their money from, and when she found out she wanted in on it too, so they became a thieving duo with a routine where he grifts and distracts while nya sneaks around and steals stuff. They get chased out of their hometown when they get caught, and are hiding out in ninjago city looking for work for a bit. They get contacted for a job to steal an artifact, not their usual gig but at this point they'll take anything they can get. He's strong at grifting and at fighting, and weak at planning and info gathering. He has an affinity with fire and will usually set fires for distractions, which annoys nya to no end. It's not his fault fires are so easy to set.

Nya has been stealing for a good portion of her life, after their parents died she had to get good at it so they could survive. They couldn't live off the scraps of metal kai insisted were weapons forever. She also got good at building and hacking things while kai was off grifting, someone had to keep the shop running well enough. Until garmadon took over and their shop went under completely. Then they honed in their thieving skills. Then they got too good and she got too ambitious and got them caught. So they broke out of jail and ran as far as they could to ninjago city, where the local enforcement would never be able to reach them, where they heard about an artifact retrieval job. She's strong at stealing and at tech, weak at grifting and at teamwork. Nya's always had more of a knack with tech and metal than anything else, so she honed in on that skill. She's never noticed how water reacts to her presence, how it attaches itself to her emotions, how the most she feels at peace is when she's by the endless ocean, not when she's working tirelessly at her workbench.

Also lloyd, who doesn't know about the green ninja prophecy or wu or the other ninja, he works as garmadons right hand in this new world, having earned the title through hard work and is still trying to work hard to earn his fathers love. He lives as the dark prince of this world, having whatever he wishes, except his freedom, so he got really good at sneaking around to get that too. He'll do whatever garmadon asks of him, no matter what. He hears rumors about a group of kids that's going against garmadons enforcers and decides to take them in himself, that'll really show those other generals who keep saying he only got this position because garmadons his dad. He is strong in stealing and stealth, weak at tech and grifting. And if he notices the way that his fathers golden weapons glow his presence he keeps that to himself, its probably nothing to be worried about. Probably.

And ronin, he's been doing what he has been doing (stealing, grifting, heisting, hacking, whatever will pay off his debts the fastest) for a long time. Almost too long at this point. He's too worked hard to made a name for himself in ninjago city to let go of that now. He gets contacted to steal an artifact for alot of money, and he can't just turn down an easy job like that. He's got a reputation to think of. Little does he know that it's not going to be easy and that there's a ragtag bunch of kids also after the same artifact. And he's not planning on mentoring the next generation or whatever. He just wants his rep to stay solid and the payout from from the job, that's it. He's very sure that this one job won't impact his life in any meaningful way. But these kids need someone to keep them out of trouble, and when he keeps catching them after his artifact, he decides that really it'll be good for himself to give them some pointers that's all. He is strong at anything crime related really, but specificlly stealing and planning, and weak at teamwork and at not getting attached to these kids who keep finding him.

INTRO

"Wow, look babe, I got a love letter! Guess I'm more popular than I thought, you might have some competition." You chuckle, kissing his cheek. It was a very flattering letter, laying out all your strengths, compliments sprinkled generously throughout the writing. It was... surprising to say the least. But you were excited to tell him about it!

LUCIFER

If he's already on edge, he might just yank it and rip it in half. Today, however, he's in a good mood.

"Let me read it." You hand him the paper, watching him closely as he grimaces and scoffs. He's not nervous, but he is baffled that someone had the nerve to send you such a... bold letter.

A little prideful, in the sense that he has something that no one else can. He know's you wont leave him for some lower demon, but he can't help but feel slightly threatened.

Walks a litter closer to you around town and RAD. He'll hold your hand when the hallways start to filter out and there's less students around.

Puts in the effort to take you on more public dates, Restorante Six, most likely. kissing your hand and giving you roses at the table. He's not flashy, but it's enough for rumors to spread quickly.

MAMMON

He rips it from your hand, immediately turning his back so he can read it. "Is this the kinda lame sappy stuff you're into? Even I'd do better than this! It don't even mention ya eyes!"

He hands it back to you, mumbling something about, "i'll show 'em" before he stomps off, shaking his head.

He struts the RAD halls with his arm around you, glaring unnecessary at anyone who walks by. He's certainly on edge for the first couple days after. He starts passing you small silly notes during class, little drawings and pickup lines. You watch him as he turns away, hand trying to cover his flushed cheeks.

Also takes you out more. Carnivals, amusement parks, more casual things! Posts 1 post, with a few photos of you together, captioned 'almost as good as grimm.' If you get another letter, you might end up having your first kiss in front of the school!

LEVIATHAN

"Wha? Who?" He can feel his heart beating faster, anxiety rising in his chest. "Just kidding Levi, you're the only demon for me!" You giggle at him. "Could I read it?" You hand it to him, watching him plop down in his gaming chair. He gets very expressive while he reads. Before long, his tail is swishing behind him, "they don't even know you! There's no mention o-of any of your favorite videos games in here! You love games." He frowns, throwing his hands up dramatically. "I know Levi, I don't even know who sent it. Don't worry, they don't know me as well as you do." He pretends to lose control of his tail, that pulls you into him for a hug.

He sulks for a few days, but after some reassurance, he has a plan. You're going to the aquarium and he'll hold your hand! That'll really show 'em. Might even go to physical school a few days more than usual to walk with you.

He writes you a little in-game dialog sappy note, telling you a few things he loves about you. Might make a singular Devilgram post with you, hugging his Ruri-chan body pillow, captioned ''my #1 and my #2'

ASMODEUS

"Ohh! Of course you're popular MC! Everyone loves you, and me of course. We're the top power couple! Now let me take a look." He smiles at you, smile faltering slightly as he reads the letter. Eyes blinking a little stiffly, he hands it back to you. "That's so superficial, you're much better off with me." And with that, he walks away.

He shows the world exactly who's you are immediately. You're tagged in maybe 10 posts in a row. Pictures of you and him, some of just you, all captioned things like, 'my love' and 'my number one always' and 'remembering the moment I fell for you' and it's unmistakable.

Becomes even more affectionate in the RAD hallways, snuggling up to you, sitting in your lap/having you sit in his during lunch.

SATAN

He frowns, putting his hand out for the paper. He glances over it, brow furrowing as he reads. "This is amateur writing. You deserve much better." He hands it back to you, walking past you quickly with a scowl on this face. He turns back halfway down the hall, "be ready at 6:30." You decide to leave him be.

First order of business, he writes you a beautiful letter. It's long winded, many poetry references, and references to stories you've read together. Even compares you to a cat, somehow. He does not give it to you yet.

He dresses nice for your date, electing to take you to dinner, and then a stroll through the royal gardens. As you approach the doors to the House of Lamentation, he turns to you, reaching in his pocket and pulling out a wax sealed letter, your name written neatly on the other side.

Sits a little closer to you at lunch time, and in the library. Hoping someones will see and rumors will spread.

BEELZEBUB

He doesn't read the letter. He's a little jealous, but he thinks reading it will upset him, so he stays away.

He makes the small effort to hold your hand more. He's not normally one for PDA, but for you, he can make a small exception. You can see how flushed his face is when you look up at him.

On game days, he lets you wear his jersey until he needs it. Might post a picture on his Devilgram of you in it. Captioned, '#1 fan'

After one of his games, he sees you talking to a lower demon, they seem to be standing awfully close. He sees them throw their arm around you, and so he calls for you, pretending he didn't see them. He waves at you, jogging over and cupping your face with his hands before placing his lips on yours.

BELPHEGOR

He's half asleep when you tell him. Isn't really bothered until you make the comment about competition. Now he's awake, and looking around like there's a present threat. Yanks the letter from you, holding it close to his face while he scowls. He scans the paper, before rolling his eyes and rolling back over onto his side, taking the letter with him.

Pretends he's not bothered. Asmo brings it up at the dinner table, Belphie calls it a "stupid letter" and crosses his arms, slouching.

Doesn't bring it up again, but you notice he's a little more cuddly in public than he was before. One day after class, he finds you in the library studying, he saunters over, kissing you brashly, tongue tracing the edge of your bottom lip,and loudly, before wiping his lip with his thumb, and sitting next to you, "what're you studying today, MC?"

nono dont worry ! ! im no expert on anything queer- i dont even have real labels when it comes to being on the aroace spectrum- (and honestly i dont care too- i just know what i prefer and make that known to my partners)) but i get exactly what you mean ! ! everyone has their own parameters for 'romantic' and 'platonic' relationships and honestly any forms of intimacy can fall into both ! in my opinion i think that makes you fall into the ace spectrum, but its genuinely all about what you want for yourself and your relationships. you draw the lines in those.

for example ! im aroace(spec)- sex repulsed and have a very blurred line between whats 'romantic or 'platonic' in relationships and honestly dont get it ! but i want to get married ! have a family ! but not in an inherently romantic sense, i want to spend my life with someone, but it doesnt have to be romantic, but that doesnt mean there isnt love there. its just different, i still want to be close to my partners, let them know that i love them, but just in my own ways. and theres certain things that i dont care for and i let them both know that. you can still feel a strong connection with someone and not have those 'expectation' from them. in my books we all love in our own ways, and its ok to not know what that means for you yet, its sorta the thing you gotta test the waters with and find out what works.

Starting off with my version of Bloodmoon aka Harvest aka Harvey

Some facts about him under the cut 👇

As shown above in his ref, Harvest is a Halloween event animatronic that does shows and tells spooky stories and performs as a scare actor of sorts (I think of him as acting like that one scare actor, Bobbins the clown I think the name is; still being scary but also silly and lighthearted when he wants/needs to be)

Harvest is only technically “active” in the public eye from late August-the end of October though he’s allowed to wander around after hours year round and acts as double security alongside the staff bots and main security bot Blackhole

Harvest is the tallest of the dca model animatronics at 7’5

Harvest’s third eye was inspired by Narinder aka The One Who Waits from cotl because at the time when I created his first design I had been following artists posting lots of cotl related art and it influenced me

I want to reiterate that this au is not related to tsams and that Harvest is a completely different character from the tsams blood twins; he does not have a need nor obsession for blood and he’s pretty chill though he is still a mischievous and feral bastard (think of him like a lazy feral cat that just kinda chills but can still be scary when he wants/needs to be)

Also all of the animatronics in this au including the dca models have very animated features and can open and close and move their mouths and eyes (aka none of them are biblically accurate)

Btw any questions about this au I will gladly answer as I draw the rest of the refs (also I will still answer centaur au asks! I’m just more focused on this rn so it may take a bit- apologies)

Actually, sure! I kinda wanted to share some of these at times but again I understand that rps is a complicated subject.

A couple of quick prefaces though:

1, If you’re uncomfortable with the subject, again, please don’t read under the post

2, I don’t have all the candies because I really just view them in passing, so I’m just gonna write/translate the ones I’ve seen, remember and find at least a logical speculation

3, I need to reiterate this in case my position in this gets misunderstood: Me writing about “candies” isn’t because these are MY opinion or things *I* found or *I* believe in them being evidence. I am just a translator and messenger.

4, (this one is gonna sound a little academic lol) Two things I realized when thinking about this “candy eating” culture is that Chinese people have a very difference understanding of platonic/romantic affection/relationships with the Western world, and that they look at the candies with rose-tinted glass. Chinese/Asian people are generally a lot less affectionate with their personal relationships, for example friends wouldn’t say “love you” to each other if they’re just friends, nor would they expand their friend group to the others easily or other stuff. And these people who look for candy go into their “investigation” already with the belief that “they are together”, everything remotely resembling a close relationship will automatically be interpreted as romantic. I thought about it a lot, and honestly among the “candies” I’ve seen, most of them are a matter of interpretation: yes those are things couples will do, but it wouldn’t be weird if friends did it too. So they’re not that seriously or up for further speculation. There is I think only one “candy” that I can’t quite say the same, which I will explain and elaborate on in this post. 

5, Please remember that the people who do this do it in good nature: something I didn’t make clear in my post yesterday, which is on me, is that the fans do want them to be together, but they’re not like… yandere level or something. If they’re just friends the fans won’t be upset or betrayed or anything, they just prefer to see them as romantic. They don’t mean any harm, and they don’t cause any harm because China is physically and digitally too far away for them to actually fuck shit up, and they understand the lines of parasocial relationships: those who met with Taylor during his China trip in December know to, and didn’t bring up this in front of him. They know where to draw the line, and whoever doesn’t and starts becoming a problem gets kicked out of the community. This is meant for fun.

6, Ok Future Meraki here, turns out, there’s a lot to translate, a lot more than I anticipated Jesus Christ and I do want to get this post how within today and make it a reasonable length, so I’m just gonna do two events and the one that I mentioned in 4. If yall want a part 2 let me know.

In December they made a whole article about “candies” from December, and to quickly summarise (again noted that all of this is speculation, I didn’t and can’t fact check them, and I’m just a translator) (also this ended up way longer than I anticipated so for photo reference if you can please go to the link of the original article):

Academy Gala:

Nick and Taylor both attended the gala: Since the strike ended up to that point, the two times Nick attends a public event, Taylor’s there too (GQ men of the year and Academy Gala), and for both times he’s wearing Cartier’s Tank Must Watch (remember this watch, I’m gonna elaborate on it later because it is the only candy that even I can’t say it’s a matter of interpretation)

In various pictures of the night’s party that other people took, the boys can be seen together in the background

How the photography worked that night was magazine photographers wandered around the venue and randomly found people to take some relatively candid photos: so people who were walking/sitting/in any way sticking together would be photographed together. I want to make it clear to the finicky people of fandoms you don't have to read or write or draw characters you don't like.That being said a discussion needs to be had about how fandoms often treat poc characters. To see people replace the main character with someone not even evolved in the main campaign is mind boggling. "But I don't know Gaz well enough" then you don't know Price well enough seeing as they're with each other most of the campaign. "But the actors sexuality" let me tell yall now how yall don't care. There's plenty of actors whose characters you write for are married with whole ass families or of a different sexuality and you still write their characters ignoring those facts. Yall didn't care before and yall dont care now don't try and act like you have some sort of upper ground. If you're not attracted to Gaz that's fine no one is forcing you to be. But completely writing out his character or not including him in TF 141 edits is mad. There's plenty of fics I've read where Gaz is not the main love interest but more of a friend/brotherly figure but at least he is there and the writer does his character justice. But I will say the Gaz fics are some of the fluffiest ones I've read. Real heart warming stuff.

Their personal lives have nothing to do with the characters they portray so why is it only an issue when it comes to Gaz/Elliot?

2) "I don't know him well enough." From that it's clear that you haven't played the games cause Gaz is literally who you play as in both MW1/MW2 so you know him as much as Price and MORE than Ghost or Soap. Which again, it's totally fine but when it's paired with König who you literally don't know cause that mf has only 1 paragraph on his wiki and the only thing said about him is that he had anxiety growing up (that some people infantilize and it's weird) in freaking 141 content that he has NOTHING to do with but leave out the first member of TF141 then...?

ok so i described tech as being like my grandpa to my cousin and for some reason that description stuck with me so i’m gonna tell yall bout all the ways i incorporated my poppa (which is what i’ll be calling him for the rest of this) into this drawing

starting off, carpenter’s pencil behind the ear: poppa always had at least 2 of these pencils on him, though they were always in his breast pocket (which tech does not have in this so the pencil goes behind his ear)

belt buckle made of coins: this was something he always wore. it was specifically made of nickels with buffalos on it, if i remember correctly. hell, that’s also the reason tech’s shirt is tucked in. poppa always wore a blue button up ford shirt tucked into is jeans and that belt with the buckle. that was just his look

all the dirt on tech: poppa was always fiddling around with everything, especially cars. he did this even before i was born, so all of his clothes always had some type of stain on them (mostly dirt and oil)

background: poppa had a separate garage building that stored all of his tools and parts of projects here and there. this garage background was kinda rushed because i couldn’t find a proper reference for what i wanted, so it doesn’t really capture the essence of poppas garage. i added the red georgia mud and a mysterious likely oil puddle on the floor, because there was always something on that garage floor, even after poppa no longer lived with us at that house. also the layout of the light switches and garage door button are the same as in his garage

^also the dark sky in the background has no hidden meaning, it’s just been dark and rainy outside for the past like 4 days

i actually really like this idea!! also im so so sorry it took me so long to get to this </3!! ive kinda been focusing on art these past few days, and when i havent been drawing ive kinda been. laying in my own. feelings. sleepy.... yk how it is!!

he doesnt really like the fighting since hes also likely the one who has to patch you up afterwards. like even if you win the fight youre still going to be hurt in some way, this applies to all the other characters too. ej is just the only one who has the knowledge when it comes to tending wounds...

with ej, in my au, he doesnt really. like conflict, especially since his own body is changing into something that isnt human; he already has enough on his plate already, doesnt need to go bury an extra body because he let his temper get the better of him

and every now and then, that mindset of avoiding conflict bleeds to how he views you and your attitude

hes happy that you can defend yourself, like hoodie he admires it; but at the same time he gets so scared that youre going to pick a fight with the wrong person or get hit in the wrong spot, and..

he does not pity those who are dumb enough to rile you up, though..

overall he worries for you and already has enough on his plate with himself ... but dont think that he sees tending to you as a burden! hell do it regardless of what caused your injury

I'm really surprised yall liked that costume breakdown so much! Glad it wasn't a waste of time lol By popular demand, I'm back with more unnecessary analysis, this time of the lettuce fam (and the church as a whole).

I bring you:

Fashion in Fódlan part ii: a very long, still not comprehensive, but this time solicited analysis

FYI this post is way more detailed and is significantly more focused on the relationship between the Adrestian Empire and the Church of Seiros, especially relating to politics and power, rather than the clothes.

The Curch of Seiros: tradition!

The reason I didn't originally include these babies is simply that the pool seems at first to be very small. Besides, Flayn is in an academy uniform, and Sothis is a god, so there's really only two outfits and it's kinda hard to get a real feel for it overall.

Fortunately, I Am Very Smart (jk) and was able to gather a sizable amount of material by broadening my horizons a little

Trends:

The very first thing you will notice is that, unsurprisingly, there are a lot of similarities with the generic clergy outfits, and the Saints are just in regular class uniforms rather than unique clothes. You can actually see a sort of evolution from Sothis's dress (the og) to the generic female bishop and priest, and a sort of similar silhouette between the male monk and Seteth:

Also, Rhea, dead Sitri, and the mural version of Sothis are all wearing the same white dress but with decreasing amounts of embellishments :) dragon ladies :)

Flayn's version of the academy uniform actually keeps a couple of these influences, as well, primarily the center-front embellishments and the dropped shoulder bows.

Enlightened!Byleth, on the other hand, is a bizarre hodgepodge of stuff that doesn't immediately seem related to anything else.

The Saints being depicted in generic clothing makes sense, because the statues were probably erected after they had all "died." It is odd that Cichol, despite being a wyvern lord in game canon and a formidable warrior in CoS canon (whoa, so meta), is shown in the male bishop uniform in his statue. I think it's because they needed to differentiate between Cichol and Emperor Wilhelm.

The statue in the imperial palace of Wilhelm Paul Hresvelg, the first emperor, is in full armor, but the statue of Cichol is not - the years Cichol lived in Enbarr may have overlapped with Wilhelm's rule, so Cichol, despite being as much (or more) of a warrior as Wilhelm, held a more spiritually significant position. His association with Cethleann likely reinforced that, thus leading to the badass warrior-priest depiction.

"But pg," you say, "of course they all look like the monks and priests, they're literally the church. What does this have to do with the empire?"

Analysis:

The church and the empire grew hand-in-hand for a very, very long time, and that shows in lots of ways, including the prevelance of magic in the empire. I actually believe that the way the clergy dresses now is actually somewhat similar to how a lot of people used to dress, or at least influenced it. (Note that TWSITD, a group that has been around for longer than the empire and is separate from the church entirely, still wears their variations of clergy clothes, and Arval/Epimenides even have a similar silhouette to Sothis. That suggests that the styles are indeed very old.)

Now that more than 1000 years have passed, the Empire has continued to develop new styles and fashions, while the church, being a church, has maintained their ceremonial outfits. That being said, some similarities remain. I want to take a look at two of them:

Most units have outfits that draw from their canon classes, so that's not unusual, and all the magic classes are clearly influenced by the church, but what we should consider here is why the fashion aesthetics lean toward the faith classes when these two characters in particular are clearly specialized in reason and dislike the church.

Dorothea's dress is elegant and fashionable and also happens to bear a shocking resemblance to a generic priest outfit (outlined in red the points of interest on Dorothea). The sleeves are also similar to the mage outfit, of course, but it's the cut of the skirt, the thing at her neck, and the waistband that make it a priest.

For Lord Arundel, I'm mostly saying the general *shape* of the thing is similar, but there's also the deep round collar and the strong vertical lines, but only on one side instead of both.

As a side note, I'll argue that the military jackets we discussed in the last post are actually related to the church too, since the Officer's Academy (which is of course founded and run by the church) uses the same button styles, and we don't see it in the other two nations. (If this all seems like a stretch, that's because it is <3 a thousand years have passed, okay, things have changed.)

Besides just the practice of magic in general and some of the styles, the ceremonial importance of wearing some kind of uniform to show your role also remained, imo. We have two clear styles of uniform in the Imperial nobility - robes and jackets (it's unclear exactly what determines who wears which - I would think it's based on military roles vs political roles, which would explain the strike force being in jackets, but Jeritza is heavily involved in the military and he wears the robes. Possibly the exception that proves the rule?) - which are of course related to the two styles we see the most of at Garreg Mach, those being the clergy's robes and the officer's academy students. They may have evolved pretty substantially by this point, but I'm inclined to say the robes worn in the empire are related to the clergy robes, especially if they're meant to be associated with the people in more politically-oriented positions rather than soldiers.

We see the importance of these uniforms in the fact that they actually supersede armor/class uniforms. Hubert (canon class dark bishop), Ferdinand (canon class paladin), and Lord Arundel (canon class dark knight), all wear outfits that aren't actually related to their canon classes at all, and they still keep those outfits when in combat as enemies.

One more similarity I'd be remiss not to point out:

More analysis:

So, we've established that there's a connection between the clothes worn by empire nobility and church leadership, as well as the nature of those clothes. Cool. Now let's talk $$.

I'm not going to consider Sothis's outfit here, because she's a god and I don't think she's going popping into shops to buy ribbons. Likewise, I think Byleth's enlightened one outfit is more of a divine creation than an actual outfit that cost money.

Rhea's costume however, which as we discussed earlier takes inspiration from Sothis's, definitely did cost money, and a lot of it.

On the inner layer, we don't have a ton of excess stuff going on, as far as the cut of the clothing goes - the white dress is very simple, pretty fitted, not extravagant in any way, but we do have those extra gold details and the headdress, which is honestly a work of art.

What I want to pay attention to is the cloak in particular. That fabric with the beautiful, intricate repeating design of the Crest of Seiros is almost certainly a white and gold brocade (not only is that what it looks like, but it's also a typical fabric for liturgical vestments).

Brocade is a very expensive type of fabric that's woven to look like it's been heavily embroidered, example above (fabric plus a painting of somewhere wearing it). High quality, 100% silk brocade, especially hand woven and using precious metals like gold, costs literally hundreds of USD per yard, and a cloak of that size would be multiple yards (4? 5 maybe? idk I can't actually sew). That's a lot of money.

You'll notice that Seteth has a similar pattern on the inside of his cape, but I highly doubt it's a brocade. It could be damask (similar to brocade but cheaper and easier to take care of - example shown below), but I think it's just a patterned silk.

I think his main garment - cape included - is meant to be a play on a cassock, so it's probably a lightweight, soft wool with the decorative facing only on the cape part, possibly not lined at all in the rest of it. The details around his cuffs and shoulders and the back of the cape are probably embroidery or applique, I'm guessing the same as the academy uniforms, whatever those are.

It's definitely nicer than what most of the students or everyday people wear, but not nearly as extravagant as the jackets in the Empire. You'll also notice that Flayn's officer's academy uniform is a little fancier than the regular students, but not enough to be worth investigation.

The blue is probably a pretty expensive dye color, and you'll note that Rhea has it too. (The black of the academy uniforms would be similar in cost...)

(Speaking of blue dye, I did more research while writing this post and it turns out that the dull blues most of the folks in the kingdom have are actually some of the cheapest and easiest colors to get and maintain! Woad my beloved... Indigo is still extremely expensive, though.)

So anyway, as we can see, the issue of excess is really just Rhea. Being the Archbishop, it's understandable in the exact same way that Edelgard's outfit is - they're both trying to show their legitimacy as a sovereign, in part through their clothes.

However, I do want to point out something extremely important: Rhea didn't drop a shit ton of money on a fancy cloak any time in the last few centuries. When you observe her headdress during a tea party, she has this to say: "This crown is rather elaborate, but it has been passed down through generations of archbishops." So it was almost certainly created hundreds of years ago, likely during the early and much more prosperous years of the empire before the kingdom was a twinkle in Loog's eye. I think the cloak is probably the same way, created around the same time as the crown.

So, is she wasting a lot of money to make herself look powerful? Probably not. Is it still a little out of touch to be dressed so extravagantly? Yeah, on a social level. On a political level, she's reinforcing the idea that she's in control, especially while groups like the Western Church are acting up.

Because that's what this is all about: Control.

Conclusion

The church still has a significant impact on the culture of the empire, but it's more than just an old and famous church building still standing in the heart of Enbarr or the gown of an opera diva. It's explicit.

As our very last exhibit, I present a crown.

The crown Edelgard is given at her coronation is not the same crown she wears during the war, and - though we can only see the tip of the little spire in the front - it bears a striking resemblance to the crown worn by Sothis/enlightened!Byleth. (Using the Sothis regalia to show it bc it's a better image lol.)

I believe this crown may have been crafted at the same time as the Archbishop's, though you'll notice it's quite a bit smaller.

That's because the church and the empire didn't just grow up together - the church was the empire. Seiros named the capital, chose and crowned the first empire, and gifted him her own blood to give him power. The Adrestian Empire exists because Seiros wanted it to, but the church was the higher authority.

The Archbishop traditionally witnesses the coronation of each new emperor not as a show of friendship or an alliance or whatever; it's to remind everyone that originally, the Emperor served at the grace of the Archbishop, not by virtue of their own authority.

Edelgard wears a different crown when she declares war on the church, because she can't have anyone questioning her authority, especially not the church. That means all remaining influence the church has over the Empire and Fodlan as a whole simply must be destroyed. Unfortunately, it runs far too deep. What's she going to do, make Dorothea wear a different dress?

(a Basic summary of an episode but AU flavoured under cut)

So like I've said in a previous post, the au story very much starts leaning away from the canon plot right after Yesterday's lie. Some weird stuff goes down almost immeadiately after Luz comes back from seeing her mom.

Point I'm making is the episodes after Yesterday's lie either just don't exist or follow a somewhat similar plot up to a point. Hollow Mind is one of those that still does happen... kinda

Eda still works with Raine at this point, finding any detail they can to use against the Emperor to show how much of a fraud he really is while still bustin out as many wild witches as they can. Darius and Eberwolf had still caught Eda and Raine in Eda's Requiem, but it was all a misunderstanding, they just wanted in on the plans Raine is conducting. Eda does not apologise for kicking Darius with mud. All this is to say they reach out to Eda when they come up with the plan to check out the Emperor's mind. Eda is very intrested but does not tell her two children because they will want to join, especially Luz.

They arrange a time and place. It's the night market and ,like before, Eda plans to fix Luz's cape as a distraction for the two youngins while she goes out to do the actual work. Prim, the shopekeeper with witches wool, accepts the task, motivated by the several wild witches being freed by a mysterious group. Eda tries her best to sound like she doesn't know who the group is either, but secretly eats up all the compliments.

Eda tells King and Luz they should wait for the cape to finish while she stocks up on more Elixir, she'll be back momentarily. King and Luz shout their goodbyes to Eda as they gain interest in Prim's telling of how Witches wool is made and other enchanted cloth.

After a while the cape is done and Luz gets to leave with her patched up cloak, but Eda still isn't anywhere to be seen. She fits on the cape again to twirl around, temporarily giving Eda's jacket to King. Mid twirl she spots a coven guard prowling about. This makes her worry for Eda even more and she grabs King to go find their witch mom.

After a bit of a search, she finds Eda and the others and accidentally scares off the coven heads since she was wearing her cloak's hood over her head. Luz questions Eda about what all this is, they don't break into an argument, but it is a serious conversation. Luz is upset that Eda didn't tell her about her secret group against the Emperor but accepts her explanation as to why and makes Eda promise that if they need extra help, they'll ask Luz. Eda laughs, yea of course, even if she said no Luz would still find a way to get involved.

At that moment a coven guard spots them, shouting questions on what they were doing in a suspicious alleyway, making Luz take a step back... on the potion, breaking it. Before Eda can grab her out of the circle Luz disappears, owl lady panik time.

Eda goes back home to evade the Coven guards and use a safer place to bring Luz back. The Coven heads greet her at her home and Eda needs to hold herself back from snapping about how stupid they are for leaving the potion on the ground. Right now she needs them to make a spell to bring Luz back.

Meanwhile, Luz wakes up in Belos' mind, pretty confused. Everything is dark and colourless and the trees surrounding are withering away. She finds her glyphs and creates a trail of light to see better as she searches around for a trace of Eda.

This is where these drawings take place!

At first she doesn't know she's in the Emperor's mind, but once those memory portraits start appearing, she connects the dots.

Belos looks just as tired as he did that time after she encountered him in the boiling rain and some weird part of her almost feels... bad? It's weird. However, this is replaced with the rising excitement she feels when she realizes HE'S HUMAN TOO! The greatest witch to ever live?? Is human?? Omg.

King suddenly remembers he has a walkie talkie and Eda uses it to confirm Luz's safety. She confirms and prepares herself as they announce they're just about ready to pull her out. Luz looks over to Belos again, his stare unfocused. What a sad lil guy. "Hey." Belos' eyes focus on Luz. "It's not too late to start fixing things." Belos frowns. Luz shouts a farewell and he pretends not to hear her saying something about seeing him later and she's gone. He doesn't know how to feel, but he's not going back to that dark part of his mind again.

Luz appears in the owl house and Eda makes sure she isn't overwhelmed. She's dizzy but fine! The coven heads question if she'd seen anything important, anything that could help them. Luz thinks. The human thing won't really do much to prove he's bad, so she shakes her head. She wasn't in there long enough. They accept this answer, she really wasn't in there for long and continue to get scolded by Eda (mostly Raine).
