ok so i was pretty let down by the way the anime adaptation ended and I haven't caught up to the manga (and also it's still going?? so i don't know exactly what the plan is there so like take whatever i'm about to say with a huge grain of salt)

but anyway I was thinking about moriarty the patriot again and about how when you really think about it, William's "brilliant" plan to change British society is actually really.....childish. The idea that if he puts the corruption of the world on blast, and then becomes the image of that corruption to force everyone to unite against him and thus make the world change....it's so tragically childish. It's the dream of a child, and in fact it's the plan he's had since he was a child. A belief that he can change the world through becoming the villain is genuinely not actionable. Whatever he might accomplish through it wouldn't be lasting.

In the end the simple fact is that William is....pretty deeply suicidal. He genuinely doesn't believe there's a place for him in the world and the only way he can fix it so that the people he loves can have a better world is if he dies.

He's a brilliant man, no one's arguing that. He truly can pull off the perfect crimes that often do make things better for everyone through very violent means.

But i think that just solidifies the idea in his head that the only way to make lasting change is through violence, and because of his various childhood traumas piled on top of the way the world keeps confirming his biases, he genuinely does not realize that his plan is honestly, very very stupid, and predicated on a deep, unexamined belief in his own inherent worthlessness.

He believes that there is evil in the world and the only way to get rid of it is through violence, and he believes that because of his actions he has become that same evil and must, therefore, be removed just like he has removed everyone else.

But it's shortsighted. It's always been shortsighted. He can't save the world by killing himself.

And it's just so fucking tragic.

"God, where do I start? I mean what Holmes adaptation, even if he's not the main character, would this be if he were not autistic coded? More Obscure - THE CASE STUDY OF VANITAS; he likes the portrayal of vampires and likes to compare it to Bram Stoker's Dracula. His favorite character is Dominique de Sade, whom he refers to as "tragic and feisty."

Mammon

Well-Known - ONE PIECE; he's just one of those people that loves to scream "THE ONE PIECE IS REAAAALLLL" and likes the treasure-hunting aspect combined with the camaraderie.

More Obscure - BLUE EXORCIST; funny, right? He used to mock Satan every time his name popped up until the couch was destroyed. He thinks Rin is cool and argues with Lucifer all the time that he's better than Yukio.

Leviathan

Well-Known - SWORD ART ONLINE; Levi likes the concept more than the characters if he's honest, but he thinks Heathcliff is a total boss.

More Obscure - THE EMINENCE IN SHADOW; like many people who watch Isekai, Levi thinks the tropes start to get a little too copy-and-paste after a while, and he appreciates the parody. He loves Cid and goes into great detail to explain why the anime is genius.

Honorable mention - SAO ABRIDGED because Levi also loves it 10x more than the original even if it's fan-made.

Satan

Well-known - BLACK BUTLER; A revenge plot mixed up with detective stories and a cruel demon butler that loves cats? He vibes with Sebastian and would like him *just a little more* if Levi hadn't pointed out that he looks like Lucifer.

More Obscure - MORIARTY THE PATRIOT; it's Sherlock but anime; what more could he ask for? When asked who his favorite character is, he usually can't decide between the Moriarty's because he likes all of them for different reasons and usually says William by default.

Asmodeus

Well-Known - INUYASHA; Loves it for the romance and thinks Inuyasha and Kagome make a great couple. He even likes the "Inuyasha... Kagome... Inuyasha! ... Kagome!" moments.

More Obscure - KAGUYA-SAMA LOVE IS WAR; Wants to kiss half of the cast because they're beautiful and will sometimes yell at the screen when Shinomiya and Shirogane misunderstand each other (he ships it hard).

Well-Known - VIOLET EVERGARDEN; he cries every single time, but he loves it because Violet reminds him of Lilith, and he likes how it has a hopeful ending.

More Obscure - FOOD WARS!; It's literally a cooking show, and he couldn't be happier. The fanservice often goes over his head until one of his brothers mumbles something about it, at which point he might feel embarrassed.

Well-Known - JUJUTSU KAISEN; he likes it because it's more on the dark side; his favorite character is Mahito and has remarked at least once that he thinks it would be fun to carry humans in his pocket like that (he said this specifically to scare you).

More Obscure - MAOU-JOU DE OYASUMI; he loves this series because it's all about his favorite past-time. He often writes down what Princess Suyaris says, muttering "wow, I never thought about doing that..."

Summary:

People from the modern world transmigrating into the ancient Chinese fantasy world has become a common and everyday occurrence that the royal court in the latter has decided to moderate them. If you’re a transmigrator, you must report your existence to Lou Zhu, the master of Best Tower. Once you pass his test and prove that you are indeed a modern person, you can then be assigned to work in different areas of the government and be given a high salary.

Because of this promised benefit, many impostors have showed up before Lou Zhu. And one day, Zuo Yunqi takes this test as well. Is he an impostor, or is he an actual modern person?

But some transmigrators also choose to hide their existence out of distrust in the government. Where are they? And with their advanced knowledge on science and technology, what are they planning in the dark?

Elsewhere, other transmigrators find themselves in all sorts of situations—an art student is detained and forced to come up with a recipe for a poisonous meal, while another is stuck sharing a body with the original soul and fighting for its control. Meanwhile, unrest rises in the Jianghu and a storm brews in the palace. Can our transmigrators’ modern knowledge save the day? Or will their lack of understanding in the current world lead to their downfall?

Propaganda:

As someone who is in the You Yao and YuuMori fandoms and adores both for being very gay while still having a good plot, I’d say these two stories are tied in terms of quality. They both execute their respective genres well and really shouldn’t be pitted against each other. But since I absolutely have to choose, then I’m siding with You Yao for this round. The YuuMori anime is a bit lacking compared to its manga, whereas the You Yao donghua elevates the original novel and breathes new life into it.

I started both shows as an anime-only. While watching YuuMori, there was always this nagging feeling at the back of my mind that I was missing out on something. There were so many instances that seemed odd or abrupt. The “found family” gang felt forced, and Sherlock’s attachment and dedication to William seemed excessive in the episodes leading to the climax and even at the climax. It turns out the anime had cut out a chapter in the manga where Sherlock visited William at the college where he teaches. This was such a let-down for me because that chapter showed how the two interact outside of a crime scene and still be friends.

In contrast, the You Yao donghua was able to stand on its own. You don’t even have to read the novel anymore, which is surprising coming from someone like me who always advocates on experiencing the source material.

In the novel, arcs seem disconnected from each other that, while reading, you don’t get the feeling that there’s an overarching plot. It is only later in the story that everything starts slowly coming together.

Somehow, the You Yao donghua was able to take the scattered puzzle pieces of the novel and connect them all together to deliver a coherent story all the while still keeping the spirit of the original—a suckerpunching emotional rollercoaster ride masquerading as yet another comedy. Characters were also given more emotional depth, which is a plus because the novel only portrayed it subtly. Even the donghua-original characters were so likable that I had to double-check if they were canon.

The YuuMori anime has its good parts of course, but overall I think it could’ve done a lot better in terms of character relationships and pacing.

So yeah, both stories are equally good in each of their own genres. But on being an animated adaptation? You Yao takes the win. Vote You Yao.

#E4: Moriarty the Patriot (Yuukoku no Moriarty)

Summary:

During the late 19th century, Great Britain has become the greatest empire the world has ever known. Hidden within its success, the nation's rigid economic hierarchy dictates the value of one's life solely on status and wealth. To no surprise, the system favors the aristocracy at the top and renders it impossible for the working class to ascend the ranks.

William James Moriarty, the second son of the Moriarty household, lives as a regular noble while also being a consultant for the common folk to give them a hand and solve their problems. However, deep inside him lies a desire to destroy the current structure that dominates British society and those who benefit from it.

Alongside his brothers Albert and Louis, William will do anything it takes to change the filthy world he lives in—even if blood must be spilled.

Propaganda:

The story isn’t quite on par with the manga (solely due to there being not enough episodes to cover full character arcs), but the ‘eat the rich’ vibes are immaculate, the plot is complex and interesting, the queercoding and subtext are both wonderfully done, AND there is a CANON TRANS CHARACTER !!!!

Okay this doesn’t go with my Games We Play of Dust and Ash series but I had a thought while watching Moriarty the Patriot last night

What if William’s darling was almost as smart as him? Just hear me out on this one, maybe if it after one of the murders in the show and she may not even be a detective, she just lives near where the death took place and decided to look into it, especially if it’s that episode where the woman jumps into the river and her lover who is a noble at a college goes missing (The Dancer on the Bridge), maybe his darling is a student at the college as well, a prodigy (which would be especially impressive since most women at the time weren’t allowed to go to college).

She managed to find out all the details that could potentially relate to the mystery, but she struggles to connect them for the longest time. For a few weeks she grows distracted in her classes, trying to connect the dots. The administration grows concerned so they send her home for a few days to rest, thinking it is some illness of the mind. Then at dinner with her mother and father she hears them mention that the deceased assistant administrator, Dudley Bale, ran opium dens under the guise of hospitals, a recent scandal, then it all click. She knows how the dots are connected but she does not know who killed Mr. Bale.

She returns to school and begins an investigation as secretly as possible, watching the movements of the students and staff closely as she goes about her day to day life, but she does not manage to hide her suspicious glances from everyone. It is after Professor William James Moriarty’s mathematics class that she is asked to stay after and he asks her a simple question…

“Can I see your notebook, please?”

Then at that moment everything clicks, why he would notice her little glances watching her peers and professors in the halls and classrooms, the days before the murder how she recalls William talking to people who did not work or attend the school. At that moment she does not even think about anything else, she bolts.

She runs out of his classroom and sprints through campus, she needs to get out of there. She runs to her dorm room, grabbing only a few things that she needs, she bribes one of her male classmates to lend her some of their clothes, and she quickly changes, leaving the campus disguised.

She goes to the train station, buying a ticket back home and everything goes well until a hand comes to rest on her shoulder as she is waiting at the station. She looks up and her heart sinks. The professor sits down beside her and asks for her notebook again, telling her that she will be protected if she does so and with no other choice she does. The two return to the college with no other choice.

She spends most of her time outside of her classes in her room, but when she goes out she starts to notice people watching her, people she assumes works with William, probably to keep her from interfering with anything and she would be right with that assumption but what she does not know is her every move is reported to William, except what they can’t see when she is in her room but it doesn’t take long for her to figure this out. She begins to use her time in her room to plan her escape from the watch that has been placed on her…

First she would have to figure out a way to leave without no one watching, the dead of night but she can’t bring along any light so she would have to preplan her route.

She can’t go back home, that’s where he would expect her to go, so off to London it is.

Then she would need an accomplice to smuggle her off of campus, she would need someone who didn’t work closely with William, so her literature professor is the best choice. She asks him for his help with fear in her eyes but she can’t explain everything to him just that she needs to leave so he agrees to help her.

She hides pillows under her blankets so people think she is sleeping, before she meets with her literature professor and he arranges for his carriage to take her to the next town over to the train station for her to go to London. She says goodbye to her professor before boarding the late night train and going off to London. She sits down in her compartment only to be joined by two strangers, Sebastian and Fred. They’re heading back to the city after a job, they were definitely not following her because William managed to figure out her plan just minutes before the train left the station.

They say their goodbyes in London and she wastes no time in looking for somewhere or someone safe who may be able to help her…

The police are out of the question and the government would never believe her so that leaves one person who she had only heard about…

It’s early morning when their is a knock at n the door at 221B Baker Street. The detective is barely awake as he goes to answer to the door only to see a rather disheveled young woman standing there.

“Mr. Holmes? Correct?”

She just has a simple request for the detective, she wants to be his assistant and for some crazy reason he agrees.

The two make an amazing team and for her help she stays at Baker Street with him. Then one day he comes back home with tickets to the Noahtic for the two of them.

The trip is enjoyable for the most part, she laughs and rolls her eyes as the woman on the cruise have the detective guess people’s occupations and it’s all fun and games until…

“Ah what a surprise seeing you here.”

That voice…

“Professor Moriarty…”

She turns around to see that all too familiar face staining near the stairwell. She must have gone pale at the sight of him because she feels a hand on her shoulder and she looks over to see the detective standing there…

“Are you alright?”

“Y-yes, I am perfectly fine.”

It’s later that night and she is going to the bar on the ship to grab a drink to clear her mind. She downs a few drinks, but then she starts not to feel so well, her head feels heavy and her mouth feels like it’s full of cotton. She tries to get up but almost falls if it wasn’t for a arm catching her before she hit the ground and the last thing she sees before she is out cold are those scarlet red eyes…

It would be such a shame if the detective lost his new partner so soon, best to keep her close Mr. Holmes if you don’t want her to disappear.

After a long day spent ridding the world of its evils, there was nothing you wanted more than to let your exhaustion melt away in the comfort of William's arms, safe and secure from the perilous city of London.

"That was quite the performance you put on, darling," William said with a soft smile. "You led those villains right to their deaths, and they were none the wiser."

"Well, you were watching, so of course I had to make it a show worth remembering."

William laughed, causing your heart to swell in your chest. That was a rare sound to hear from him nowadays, especially with the way he'd practically been buried in his work.

"You truly took my breath away. We make quite the perfect couple, don't you think?"

"If your definition of a perfect couple is getting away with murder, then I'd be inclined to agree."

"We're just settling the score board one move at a time. With you aiding me, my opponent's king has practically fallen right into my lap. Before long, they'll be met with their rightful checkmate."

You hummed, wrapping your arms tighter around William's waist. When you were this close to him, you could hear the steady rhythm of his heart, a pleasant reminder that he was still here, living and breathing, not yet taken by the dark powers of this world.

But you were taken by surprise as William rolled on top of you, a yelp involuntarily leaving your lips. He smiled upon hearing it, but instead of throwing a playful tease your way, he took your face into his hands, gazing down at you with a fondness so palpable that it made your heart leap in your chest.

"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" he whispered, his thumb gently caressing your cheek.

A blush bloomed on your face, no doubt growing as red as his bright ruby eyes. "Yes, many times, in fact."

"Is that so? It seems to me that I haven't said it enough."

"William..."

Before you could utter another word, William brushed his lips against your forehead, letting his touch linger there for a few long moments. "You are so beautiful. Every part of you."

Your skin grew warmer at his sincerity, his words almost too much to take in. How was it possible for someone to look upon you as if you were the most precious thing in the world? Who could make sense of the way their adoration for you only seemed to grow day by day, something far beyond the capacity of human understanding?

You may never fully understand it, but all you desired in this life was to be loved by William until your very last breath, and, if given the chance, to love him in the life that came next.

"The angels themselves would marvel at your beauty," William said, giving you another kiss. "Truly, I must be the most fortunate man in the world to have you." Followed by another kiss, and then another.

"I could say the same for you," you replied, laughing at the kisses that left a ticklish sensation against your skin.

"No, darling," he replied, meeting your eyes once again. A determination filled them, accompanied by a sense of complete certainty. "I am the lucky one." With one last kiss pressed against your lips, William smiled. "Because I get to love you."

bungou stray dogs - ranpo's invitation to yosano fucking CINEMATIC okay. i cried. the way it was set up, with ranpo kneeling to yosano's level and promising her a place to stay. the lighting of this scene giving it such a hopeful look. the emotional impact. they are my favourite duo in bsd and their dynamic is sooo precious to me and i just. one of my fav scenes in bsd EVER!!!

haikyuu - tsukishima's block THIS WAS JUST PHENOMANAL KSFHJ. the POWER. the SCREAM. the perfect moment for his character arc, the 'it' moment. oh my god. i only very recently got into haikyuu and this scene lives in my head rent free

Imagine if reader was part of the plan. Maybe she comes from another country and is a really good strategist or better : an alchemist. As we saw in the manga Louis isn't going in all the missions and sometimes remains at the mansion. And reader being an alchemist/strategist would mean that she doesn't either.

Maybe the first Time they stay togheter they barely spoke to one another. Reader doing whatever plans/experiments William requested and Louis just cleaning or making something for when his brothers return.

So they slowly warm up to one another and develop a friendship. Louis would bring some tea and maybe some cookies and they will talk about anything that comes to mind or they will just sit in silence and Louis would watch Reader working.

Now Louis will slowly gain feelings and reader as well or maybe she already had them, but i don't think that Louis would say anything until the 3 years when Sherlock and William share they're lovers honeymoon in America.

I think that bacause we all know that Louis had a hard time accepting that William is dead. Louis loved his brother more than he loved himself. So imagine if Louis would be crying one night and reader hears his sobs and goes to his room to comfort him.

I imagine it like that sad audio where Louis would be crying into Readers shoulder and she will quietly whisper "it's okay" while having tears in her eyes herself but staying strong for Louis.

I think that only then would Louis accept his feelings and start courting reader. Knowing that they were friends before i think that they'll get married before William comes back.

I see Louis as such a good lover and i think he would hold reader in his sleep, hugging them and almost begging them not to leave him because he doesn't know what he would do if he loses another person dear to him.

Now after the time skip. Louis is happy that his brother is back and when William asks him how he has been he just shows his ring like "You remember the cute alchemist that made You that poison that could kill 10 grown men with only one mililiter? / strategist that made such a sick plan of tricking nobles by kidnapping they're lovers and telling them to go to a certain place where they would find they're lovers mutilated body and then be killed as well while we take care of all the slaves or humans that he tortured? Yea, i put a ring on her as fast as i could"

Now it would be even funnier if Sherlock and reader are friends or just have a good relationship in general because everyone knows how much Louis hates sherlock. So just think of Louis glaring at sherlock while reader looks away but when she turns to face Louis he just smiles and side eyes sherlock into being quiet.

Moriarty the Patriot x Fem Reader

(name) (last name) is a South African doctor who works as a paramedic from the year 2023 but one day while on the way to a heart attack victim she ends up in London in the year 1875. Come travel with (name) as she meets various people and see how she plays a part in the Moriarty plan without even knowing it.

“(Last name)! We got a call, heart attack victim in Victoria street. Let’s go” Waydon my senior calls

“Coming!” I grab the necessary medical supplies and run to the ambulance. Waydon starts the engine and drives away.

“Do we know anything about the situation?” I ask hoping to prepare myself for what’s ahead.

“All I know is that the victim is a man in his mid 40s and a little bit overweight” Waydon answers as he drives onto the bridge.

“God I hate this bridge. There are so many accidents here because people don’t think when they drive” l say as I look out the window, “This is the same bridge my parents crashed on”.

“Tell me about it. I’ve been on at least 5 calls for accidents on this bridge. It’s only Tuesday for crying out lou…” 

“Watch out!” I shout interrupting him as I see a truck coming straight for us.

The truck hits the side of the ambulance with so much force that it knocks the ambulance off the bridge. As the ambulance falls it feels like time has slowed down. 

“(Name)!” Waydon shouts as he tries to get ahold of my arm.

The ambulance hits the water passenger side first.

With the force of the ambulance hitting the water my head is pulled back and hits the window with so much force that it makes the window crack. 

My head throbs, I can barely register what is happening, my vision starts to blur, my ears ring. I feel the strength leaving my body as I battle to breathe. I see movement in front of me, it looks like Waydon but I can’t tell what he is doing. 

I slip in and out of consciousness, I try to stay awake but I fail and end up blacking out.

                                   Waydon’s pov:

As the truck hits us I immediately look at (name) hoping she is okay. I feel the ambulance start to fall off the bridge. We fall at a rapid speed, I’m terrified. I try to grab onto (names) arm as I shout for her, I fail to grab onto her. I closed my eyes to brace myself for impact.

We hit the water with so much force that I jolt forward but my seatbelt prevents me from going forward.

I open my eyes and look around to see if I’m injured. I then look at (name) to see if she’s okay but what I see chills me to the bone. (Name) is laying there unconscious, blood seeping out from her head. The window behind her is cracked, she doesn’t look like she’s breathing.

 I turn around for a moment to get something to stop the bleeding but when I look back I freeze in shock.

She’s no longer there.

The blood is still there, the cracked window is still there. There is no way she could have opened the door and left, the ambulance is laying on the passenger side in the river. There is water, rocks and rubbish everywhere. How could she have just disappeared?

I frantically unbuckle my seatbelt to go look for her. I fall to the passenger side when my seat belt comes off, some blood gets on my hands. I climb over the seats to the back of the ambulance, I see all of the medical supplies are gone.

“What the hell is happening?” I say as I clutch onto my head, I feel like I’m going insane.

“How did she just disappear into thin air?”

I checked all the doors of the ambulance, they are all closed shut, no way to open them at all. 

I make my way back to the front to take my phone. The screen is shattered,I can’t even switch it on. I throw my phone in rage.

I take the ambulance radio and try switching it on. 

“Come on, work!”

The radio finally switches on, I take the microphone and contact the department.

“Ambulance 154 to department over”

“This is the emergency service department, what’s the current situation Ambulance 154 over” the department says on the radio 

“Ambulance 154 has been in an accident on the way to a heart attack victim. Ambulance was hit by a truck and sent over the bridge leading into Victoria Street. Ambulance is now lying in the Duzi river, over “

“Are there any casualties, over?”

“I don’t know “

“What do you mean you don’t know? Over”

“(Name), she was in her seat unconscious. I look away for one moment and I… she’s gone “.
